The saffron dawn: A tale of progression, coalition and trust

They say, without darkness, there cannot be light, and without some dark days, can one set the good days apart? When we put our individual selves in consideration, we all have had our share of days good and bad, but if we are to imagine years of seemingly everlasting turmoil, we probably would be rendered helpless amidst the angst and pain of unfavourable if not devastating derelictions.

Now let us imagine a collective of about 4 crore souls, shunted out of the picture of prosperity, of development, of equal rights for more than 6 decades under the same sun we all live and breathe in. Stripped down of fair dignity, oppressed by the very hands they healed, cast aside from the mainstream prejudiced as primitives and the worst of all, often portrayed as aliens by their own countrymen.

Yes, I am talking about the North East and the citizen of the North Eastern states of India. It is dry humour to enforce the clarification that North East India is indeed a part of India, as opposed to the shameful ignorance shared by many. Post Independence, India as a country grew leaps and bounds piggybacking the commendable talent pool of the nation. History witnessed the transformation of cities to metropolitan marvels, roadways and railways saw fancier wheels, the aerospace thundered with the rumbles of jet engines mightier than the Wright Brothers’ imagination, the country folk were introduced to gradually standardized lives, but what iota of these were bestowed upon the citizens of the Northeast? The “Hill Folks” or “Adivasis”, as they were called, left dejected with the bare minimum priority the government could possibly give.

Neglected and ignored to the epitome that even in the late 2000s, 60 years after independence, an average citizen of mainstream India stammered in naming all the states of the North East, let alone name the capital cities. In my college days, I had a hard time explaining where Agartala was or that Tripura was a part of India.

Whose fault would that be? That particular citizen’s, or, of the system as a whole that failed to educate the citizen? This is rhetoric. Please refrain from answering. The system that also failed to provide proper connectivity, power, resources when these were under the jurisdiction of the Government then in office. History stands by my words as I write, fresh as the boiling blood of all those who were made to live a life they never chose, contrary to the popular beliefs.

I thank my fate to live to see the silver lining that shone upon us after the dark clouds of geopolitical katabatic. The timing could not be more right, just as the indigenous folks were finally making their voice heard and their presence felt, the wind bore the news of a sweeping victory.

It was the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, and BJP rode in victorious in a lotus adorned chariot, morphing the stagnant dynamics of the central powerhouse. Right from the onset of the new regime, the pro-development party kicked off with various schemes to boost the nation’s economy, trades, livelihood rural and commercial sectors. The Vision Document for Vision 2020, earmarked for the development of the North Eastern Region, otherwise coined as NER, brought about the first true rays of hope to the citizen of the states influenced.

What the Shri Narendra Modi led government dazzled the citizen of North East and the rest of the country with was the formation of the NEDA or North East Democratic Alliance on May 24th, 2016. Under the blitz wings and direction of Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Convener of NEDA, the till then dejected people of the NER started to trust the government and invited the shades of saffron into their home.

Strange? Not really, by the lines of the Look East Policy and the Vision Document, the sentiment of “Inclusive growth calls for Inclusive Governance” touched the heart of the masses, as it was evident that the government is truly looking for ontogeny and not simply expanding an empire. Through this democratic alliance, the local regional parties of the states, who were in opposition or struggling to get their voices heard had a backbone to count on and bring forth the much-awaited reforms to their own land, preserving their local sentiments and customs, state Acts and Rules. This way, they could empower themselves in ways acceptable to themselves and also be at par with the growth rate of the rest of the nation.

The alliance thus impregnated with the inception of various projects that focused on the upgradation of the highways, railways, power, internet, BPOs, organic food, assistance, timely implementation of projects & job creation, tourism and rural development sectors. The landform which was once considered inaccessible now had projects either approved or initiated that connected it even further than anyone had thought of, nationally and internationally.

The 1400 km long India-Thailand-Myanmar Trilateral highway project, the BBIN project, the Railway projects to Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar are to name a few. Apart from connectivity upgradation under NESIDS and NERSDS, the government also gave its prime focus on the agriculture and agri-based livelihood face, as 80% of the NER is based on the same. To uplift the domain, green revolution was initiated that ensures agri extensions, land reforms, rural credit and banking, export, as well as non-farm rural employment & income generation, handloom, handicrafts and animal husbandry. All these put together appear to be a mammoth of a task to practically execute any of it.

Hence, to the sceptical minds, I would like to bring forth one of the most practical approach that has been taken, which is the Track 10. The Track 10 scheme earmarks 10% of the Annual Budget of the Central Ministry for the NER that includes 53 non-exempted Ministry/Department that surrenders the unutilized portions of the funds to a get accumulated as a Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources or NLCPR. Through Track 10, the deficits of funds for the development of the NER are mitigated and that in terms aid the needs of the hour like North East Venture Fund (NEVF), Science and Technology Interventions in the North East Region (STINER) and better facilitate the World Bank initiative of North East Rural Livelihood Project(NERLP).

Through these schemes, the education and rural development sectors are armed to relentlessly wage war against all the odds that held the NER back. For the private sectors who are willing to come forth in the betterment of the regions are also welcome on a PPP basis for feasible projects. Such initiatives encouraged the local entrepreneurs to launch their startups. We have seen a great rise of the youth and especially the women in the battlefield of entrepreneurship in the past few years.

It really gladdens my heart to see the people taking charge of their own lives now, taking care of their families and also making a name in the world, carrying forward the glory of the Incredible North East. Tourism has started to flourish, and with better cooperation of the government and the local bodies, we can expect the North East to be the next happening hub of the country, especially as it shares multiple international borders, gateways and even the new International Internet Gateway in Tripura.

However, certain aspects are yet to be seen in effect. While the young minds and souls are now encouraged to start their own ventures and brisk a walk down the lane of entrepreneurship, we still face hindrances in the ground level. The schemes and plans set by the Government are attractive and pro-youth development, but the process of the same reaching down to the masses are still hazy.

Any entrepreneur seeking for financial help are made to go through an unnecessary series of ordeal. The sweet words of the government shall bear no fruit if they do not take the initiative to train the government employees at the lower levels to act upon the schemes and plans. It is indeed sad to see that many employees of the banking sector do not even know the full form of MSME, let alone help the customers avail the benefits.

One should bear in mind that the youth today are smarter than the people of older generation generally anticipate. Information of any kind are available in our fingertips, we can cross verify any law with a few taps on the screen and most importantly we know our fundamental and legal rights. It would be smart for anyone in the authority to proceed with caution if they seek to retain our trust. We want nothing else but the development of the region and the nation as a whole, along with the government in power.

Wonders happen when the right hands join instead on one’s own two hands in front of the world. What real development and prosperity takes are good intentions, proper communication and channels and most importantly trust and faith. The people of the North East put their faith in the BJP government to look for a brighter tomorrow together with the hope that the bond is not severed and the trust is not breached in this democracy.

On behalf of the 4 crore citizen of NE, I can boldly conclude with the sentiment “Humaara saath do, hum saath rahenge!”. Jai Hind!

ED registers FIR in illegal sand mining case, to probe the role of Akhilesh Yadav

In a big setback to Samajwadi Party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to register a case of money laundering in connection with illegal sand mining cases to probe the alleged roles of Akhilesh Yadav and his former cabinet colleague Gayatri Prajapati.

According to reports, the ED registered the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) days after the CBI had filed an FIR against 11 people including former CM Akhilesh Yadav in relation with the alleged illegal allotment of sand mining licences in Hamirpur between 2012 and 2016.

The ED has now registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against politicians and bureaucrats from UP for allegedly laundering proceeds of crime earned through illegal allotment of sand mining licences in Hamirpur between 2012 and 2016.

Reports citing ED sources said that the agency will now identify properties and assets created by the accused with the money earned through illegal licences and will proceed to attach these properties. The ED case will also look into the money trail and see if alleged illegal funds were earned as kickbacks in the alleged scam.

Earlier, The CBI had searched 14 locations including the premises of former IAS officers in UP and Delhi. The public servants are accused of allowing illegal mining between 2012-2016 and illegally renewing licence despite National Green Tribunal ban. The officers are accused of allowing theft of minerals, money extortion from leaseholders and drivers. Yadav, along with being the state’s chief minister, also held the mining portfolio during 2012-13. He was succeeded by Gayatri Prajapati. Gayatri Prajapati was arrested in 2017 after a Chitrakoot woman accused him of rape.

The CBI filing an FIR had said, “The role of then mining ministers concerned during relevant period may be looked into during the course of the investigation of the case.” Both Yadav and Prajapati had the charge of mining ministry between 2012 and 2016 when the alleged irregularities in the mining of minor minerals are supposed to have happened.

Following the multiple CBI raids in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as part of the probe in the illegal sand mining scam, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had accused the BJP of playing vendetta politics. Shockingly, he went on to warn the BJP that the ‘CBI raid culture’ the BJP has started will someday come to haunt them.

PM Modi is working tirelessly to promote India’s global visibility: Philip Kotler thanks PM for accepting award

0

Philip Kotler, the top marketing guru and consultant, has thanked Prime Minister Modi for accepting the first Philip Kotler Presidential Award presented to him by the World Marketing Summit.

In a letter addressed to PM Modi, Kotler has written that a committee formed by the WMS had researched extensively on the criteria specified among the leaders of many nations and agreed that PM Modi’s role as the PM of one of the world’s oldest and major nations deserved the award. Kotler also adds that he gave his wholehearted support to this endorsement and stated that as the leader of the world’s largest democracy, Modi has tirelessly promoted India’s image and visibility on the global stage.

Kotler regretted not being able to present the award himself due to health reasons and hence his trusted friend and renowned global business leader Jagadish Sheth to present the award instead.

Kotler has added further that the world is watching India and China. The two countries represent two very different visions of the future and he believes that democracy, though imperfect, is the best way to achieve the aspirations of a nation’s people. On this regard, the world looks at India as a model, because it seeks justice and economic progress for all its people.

The news of the international award being presented to PM Modi was not received well by a certain section of Indian media and opposition leaders. Congress president Rahul Gandhi had shared an article by leftist propaganda website The Wire that questioned the credibility of the award.

Soon after though, the critics were silent when Philip Kotler himself endorsed the award and congratulated PM Modi for being its first recipient. He also added that Modi being the first winner has raised the bar for the future recipients of the award. Kotler had also praised PM Modi in an exclusive interview.

JNU row: Event preplanned, Kashmiri students accused of raising anti-India slogans were in touch with Umar Khalid

0

The seven Kashmiri students who are accused of raising anti-India slogans on JNU campus on 9th February 2016 had in their confessional statement claimed that they did not know Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. This was part of the charge sheet filed on Monday. However, as reported by DNA, the police investigation has revealed that not only they knew each other but the event was also being planned for a long time.

As per the report, Muneed and Mujeeb, who are brothers, had confessed they knew each other. But others had claimed they joined the event after they got to know about it from social media. Aqueeb, one of the accused had told the police that no one had invited him and he didn’t know the organisers and had even covered his face to protect himself from the cold. However, as per police, Aqueeb’s call records show that on the day prior to the event, he had called Umar Khalid. On 9th February, too, his mobile phone location shows that he was in JNU. Investigation has also revealed that Aqueeb was seen holding an ‘Azaadi’ placard and was present at the event along with Umar, Anirban, Umair, Rayees and Basharat.

Similarly, while Mujeeb had claimed that he was not invited, his call records show he had called up Umar Khalid on his mobile on 28th December 2015, little over a month before the event. As per the charge sheet, Mujeeb was found raising slogans glorifying stone-pelters.

Umar Gul, another Kashmiri student, had also claimed that he went to JNU after he saw the event on Facebook, but his call records also show that he was in constant touch with Mujeeb who had even called him at 12:15 pm on 7th December, 2 days before the event. The charge sheet also states that CFSL experts have certified that Umar Khalid forged the signatures of Ashwathi and Anirban on the permission letter.

As reported by IndiaToday, Delhi Police has enough evidence to prove that Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were the ‘main conspirators’ who had organised the protest. As per reports, the police have recovered an email in which Umar Khalid and Anirban are seen talking about “Azaadi (freedom) of Kashmir” from “India’s occupation”.

Recently, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in the JNU case to the Patiala House Court. The charge sheet filed by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police against Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and others on the celebration of terrorist Afzal Guru’s death anniversary at Jawaharlal Nehru University in February 2016. Shehla Rashid and daughter of CPI leader D Raja also are mentioned in the charge sheet. The charge sheet states that the JNU event was part of a planned conspiracy.

Madhya Pradesh: After Indore businessman, Mandsaur BJP leader shot dead in full public view

0

Prahlad Bandhwar, BJP leader and the chairman of the Mandsaur Municipal Corporation was shot dead last evening by unidentified criminals. As per reports, Bandhwar was shot at in full public view, near BPL square in the city.

Bandhwar’s killers reportedly came on a Royal Enfield motorcycle and shot him at point-blank range. Bandhwar was reportedly standing in front of the district co-operative bank. As Bandhwar fell immediately, panic spread in the area and shopkeepers nearby closed their shutters. Taking advantage of the chaos, the murderers reportedly escaped.

Bandhwar was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in an auto rickshaw but he had already succumbed to his injuries.

As per reports, SL Borsi, the SHO of the Kotwali police station in Mandsaur has stated that the police have obtained a name and search for the assailants is on.

Just a day before, an Indore based businessman named Sandeep Agrawal was shot dead by four shooters at the middle of a crowded street just 50 metres away from a police station. The gangster-style murder on Wednesday evening had also created panic and chaos in the city. Agrawal was a property broker and also owned a media channel.

Former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has condemned the incident and has stated that criminals in Madhya Pradesh have suddenly become bold after the Congress government came to power.

Two days back, thieves had broken into the house of cabinet minister Omkar Singh Markam in Dindori and had fled with money and jewellery worth Rs 12 lakhs.

Cursed by vultures: Will Opposition end Ayushman Bharat if it gets power at the Centre

Ever since Amit Shah was diagnosed with swine flu and admitted to the hospital, elite journalists from liberal news portals have been pouring in their death wishes for the BJP Chief. Senior leaders of opposition parties have also done their bit in heaping mockery on his ill health.

They won’t matter. There is a saying in Bengali that curses from vultures have no effect.

However, things are very different when it seems that the Opposition is getting ready to end Ayushman Bharat, which could throw millions of lives in danger.

It goes without saying that Ayushman Bharat, which covers 10 crore households and has over 50 crore potential beneficiaries, is the largest health scheme anywhere in the whole world.

But Delhi never joined, which is exactly what you would expect from a man so petty and insecure as Arvind Kejriwal. The state of West Bengal has decided to quit the scheme. Apparently, Mamata Banerjee is incensed over the fact that the scheme appears to promote Prime Minister Modi. So she has decided that her state government will no longer contribute to the scheme.

Imagine if Modi government decided to end all funding to Jawaharlal Nehru University for a similar reason.

But now newly Congress ruled Chhattisgarh is set to quit Ayushman Bharat. The trend is picking up.

Even by Indian standards, this kind of breakdown in governance due to political jealousy is unprecedented. As the Modi wave swept across India, other political formations have been trying to counter him by promoting outright casteism and toxic regionalism. But now they have come to the point where they say they would rather see poor people die without medical care than see Modi get credit.

And Modi has been getting credit. Why wouldn’t he? Nearly 7 lakh people have received treatment under the scheme in its first 100 days.

Featured here is a 54-year-old street vendor who got back on his feet after 8 years! And it is only picking up steam. This is from the Director General of the World Health Organization:

Tweet from Director-General of WHO

The Opposition is now grudging these 7 lakh people, all from the poorest sections of society, their health and their recovery! It doesn’t get much lower than this.

Not surprisingly, our much compromised intellectual class has been observing strict silence over this plight of the poorest of the poor. Isn’t it surprising they cannot find any touching human interest stories of people who are undergoing treatment right now under Ayushman Bharat and might lose that critical care once Chhattisgarh ends the scheme?

What are they waiting for? For Modi to inaugurate a shiny new bridge somewhere, perhaps some project that had been pending for 40 years, but which Modi finished in 5 years? Then, they will do “human interest” stories about how the boatmen fear losing their livelihood because of the new bridge!

Ironically, the praise that India and PM Modi have been receiving on the global stage for Ayushman Bharat is likely to only increase the resolve of the jealousy brigade to end this scheme by hook or by crook.

Untitled.png
Tweet by Bill Gates

You can be certain that some “journalist” right now, working for some Cable or Wire or Antenna, has been asked to come up with a report on why Bill Gates is some unknown underachiever. Certainly no match for the exploits of fully grown child prodigy Rahul Gandhi.

It is now clear that if the Opposition manages to snatch power in 2019, they will stop at nothing to erase Modi’s legacy. It is clear that Ayushman Bharat will be ended, throwing the lives of 50 crore of our poorest citizens into jeopardy.

The question is how much farther will they go in their jealousy and desire for “revenge”. After almost 70 years of independence, there were still 3 crore households in the country without so much as an electricity connection. So in Oct 2017, the BJP government set out to complete the task of giving an electricity connection to every household in India, a target that has been 95% achieved.

Untitled.png
Financial Express article

Will these electricity connections be taken away if the Opposition wins power in 2019?

Ujjwala Yojana has doubled the percentage of Indian households with gas connections. Will these gas connections be cut off and people sent back to cooking with firewood?

Rural toilet coverage has gone up from 39% in 2014 to 92% in 2018. Will these toilets be taken away and people sent back to defecate in the open? Some folks here will remember an (infamous) report in an elite liberal mouthpiece a few years ago that complained about toilets being “forced” upon villagers. So the liberals were never really happy with ordinary people of India getting to use toilets. Next thing you know they will start using Western-style toilets. And then what difference will remain between the unwashed masses and the denizens of Delhi Durbar?

The saddest part is that it appears the other side is willing to trample upon the lives of India’s poor to extract its “revenge” on Modi. In a democracy, sooner or later, the government is going to change. People look to the incoming government to bring its new ideas to the table. That is what keeps democracy fresh, that is what keeps the engine of progress running. It would be a shame if the Opposition is going into an election with an agenda of ending healthcare, shutting down toilets, gas connections and electricity connections. And all because of jealousy.

Four IPS officers including Special Director Rakesh Asthana moved out of CBI

0

Just a week before the high-level selection committee is scheduled to meet to select the next director of Central Bureau of Investigation, today the union government removed Special Director CBI Rakesh Asthana and three other officers from the agency. According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) today, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the curtailment of tenure of the four IPS officers working in CBI in the rank of Special Director/Joint Director/DIG/SP with immediate effect. Apart from Asthana, other officials are Arun Kumar Sharma, Joint Director, Manish Kumar Sinha, DIG, and Jayant J. Naiknavare, SP/HoB.

With this, both the architects of the infamous CBI vs CBI are now out of CBI. Last week CBI director Alok Verma had resigned from the agency after the high-level committee had removed him from the post of CBI director and transferred as DG of Fire Services.

The DoPT notification moving four officers out of CBI

The IPS officers are not terminated from their jobs, only their tenure in CBI has been curtailed. Rakesh Asthana has been transferred to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which looks after airport and flight security. The other three also may be posted in other positions in the central government, or may be returned to their parent cadres. Both Asthana and Sharma are from Gujarat cadre, while Sinha is from Andhra Pradesh cadre and Naiknavare is from Maharashtra cadre.

Rakesh Asthana is facing a probe by CBI following an FIR was lodged against him by the agency at the behest of Alok Verma. Last week, the Delhi High Court had rejected his petition to quash the FIR, and had ordered the CBI to complete the probe within 10 weeks. According to reports, the CVC had concluded in its report that Alok Verma had forged evidence against Asthana.

The selection committee comprising prime minister Narendra Modi, chief justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and the leader of largest opposition party in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will meet on January 24 to decide on the appointment of next CBI director. Till then, Additional Director Nageshwar Rao is working as the interim director of the agency, who was re-assigned to the role after Alok Verma was removed from the post of CBI director on January 10th.

Bill Gates praises India on completion of 100 days of Ayushmaan Bharat Yojana

0

The Ayushman Bharat Scheme earned a major accolade when Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates congratulated the Indian government on completion of 100 days of Ayushmaan Bharat initiative. Bill Gates posted a congratulatory tweet in response to a tweet by Union Minister JP Nadda who claimed 685000 beneficiaries have availed the benefits from the scheme in the first 100 days.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana is Modi government’s flagship healthcare programme launched in 2018, under the Ayushman Bharat Mission of MoHFW for a New India -2022. The scheme aims at making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems, covering both preventive and promotive health, to address healthcare holistically. The scheme intends to provide coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually, benefiting more than 10.74 crore poor families or over 50 crore people.

This is not the first time Bill Gates has lauded the Modi government for its initiatives. Gates has been a staunch supporter of Modi government’s policies. In the past, Gates had lauded PM Modi for envisioning and implementing the Swachh Bharat mission and for its commitment towards making India open-defecation free. The World Bank had also hailed it as the world’s largest sanitation programme.

Gates had rallied behind the Modi government in support of Aadhaar, the biometric ID system even as the opposition cornered the government on the privacy issue. Gates had then called the system exemplary without any privacy concerns and had exhorted other countries across the world to emulate it.

A few days back, Philip Kotler, the renowned marketing consultant and author, had echoed similar sentiments of praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latter’s leadership qualities and his selfless service to India. Endorsing the Philip Kotler Presidential Award conferred upon Modi, Kotler said that the award is in recognition of Modi’s efforts to bring about remarkable economic, social and technological advances in India.

As the Ayushmaan Bharat Yojana is getting recognition from across the world, some Indian politicians are determined to disparage and scuttle it. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal pulled out of the Ayushmaan Bharat Yojana alleging that PM Modi is getting all the credit and State’s contribution is being neglected. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal undermined the healthcare scheme by calling it a PR exercise by the Modi government.

Today’s news wrap up of the day.

1. Liberals celebrate Amit Shah getting swine flu

The Quint journalist, Stutee Mishra took to Twitter to ask whether “people die from Swine Flu”. The Tweet was later deleted. The Quint issued an “apology” and said that they would take appropriate action against the journalist.

Stutee was not the only one to be in a celebratory mood after Amit Shah had taken ill. NDTV, notorious for its fake news and hateful journalists was also the culprit. NDTV journalist cum troll, Sunetra Chowdhury had a few years ago in 2009 had expressed glee when Narendra Modi had been diagnosed with Swine Flu.

2. Journalist writes to CJI, asks to suspend senior advocate designations of P Chidambaram and his wife

Senior journalist J Gopikrishnan of The Pioneer has written to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi asking for the suspension of the senior advocate designations of former UPA minister P Chidambaram and his wife Nalini Chidambaram in the Supreme Court, reported Bar and Bench.

J Gopikrishnan, in his two-page letter to the Chief Justice, has accused P Chidambaram of ‘clearly misusing the position’ despite being an accused of corruption and money laundering cases. In his letter, he says, Congress leader P Chidambaram appeared in cases before trial courts in his Senior Advocate attire while his lawyers, Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued for his bail, which is a “clear misuse of holding Senior Advocate Designation” by an accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

3. NIA conducts raids in seven more locations in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab in ISIS-inspired module investigation

As part of the ongoing investigation in the ISIS-inspired terror module busted in December last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today raided seven places in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

As per reports, Punjab has surfaced for the first time in the investigation as earlier the raids were conducted in Uttar Pradesh and in NCR region. On 12th January, the NIA had made a fresh arrest from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad and conducted raids in several UP towns like Hapur, Meerut and Ghaziabad. The agency had found that the founder of the module Mufti Mohammad Suhail alias Hazrath had travelled to Tral, Rajouri and Bandipora in Kashmir twice last year. According to the agency, Hazrath travelled to these places to seek arms training from a Pakistani trained Mujahideen (terrorist).

4. The Compulsive Contrarian and his Manufactured Logic: Arun Jaitley tears into Leftists and Congress

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley took to Facebook today to write a scathing blog against Rahul Gandhi and Congress. He also tore into the Leftists who have tried their best to subvert democracy by weakening an elected government and skewed logic to create issues where none existed.

His blog, first published on Facebook, titled “The Compulsive Contrarian and his Manufactured Logic” is reproduced here.

5. Sexual exploitation of women, corruption and arrogance: AAP Punjab MLA levelled serious allegations on party leadership

AAP Punjab MLA form Jaitu constituency, Baldev Singh had yesterday resigned from the party’s primary membership. In his letter, as per reports, Baldev Singh has alleged that the party under Arvind Kejriwal has given up its basic ideology and principles. Singh also accused Kejriwal of being ‘dictatorial and arrogant’.

Baldev Singh has reportedly also alleged that during the Punjab elections, the Delhi AAP leaders had indulged in rampant ticket selling and sexual exploitation of women. Rebel AAP MLA and former Delhi minister Kapil Mishra has Tweeted about it.

6. Another farmer loan waiver scam? Rs 120 crore non-existent farm loans ‘waived off’ in Madhya Pradesh

The curious case of nonexistent farm loans being waived off in Madhya Pradesh has come to the fore. As the process of granting farm loan waivers is initiated, farmers, who had not even taken loans, started appearing in the list of debtors whose loans are being waived off by the government.

The farmers whose names have wrongfully appeared in the list of debtors have filed their grievances at the local branches of the District Co-operative Central Bank. Farmers have alleged that when there is no loan on their names, how can the government offer waiver?

7. 1300 Rohingyas flee to Bangladesh from India over fears of deportation to Myanmar

As per reports, 1300 Rohingyas have crossed into Bangladesh from India since the start of the year. “Some 1,300 individuals from 300 families have arrived from India to Bangladesh until today,” said Nayana Bose, a spokesperson for the Inter-Sector Coordination Group (ISCG).

The ISCG includes UN agencies and various other organizations that claim to address humanitarian concerns. UNHCR spokesperson Firas Al-Khateeb said the UN refugee agency was “aware of the situation”.

As per reports, the exodus was sparked by fears of deportation to Myanmar. The NDA government in India has maintained that Rohingyas are a security threat to the nation and must be deported from where they came. 230 Rohingyas were arrested in 2018 by Indian authorities.

8. BJP asks the black sheep, Shatrughan Sinha to quit the party if he wants to

The actor turned politician, BJP rebel MP from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha Shatrughan Sinha, who is known to be acrimonious towards his own party, has been finally shown the red flag, with the party advising him to quit if so wants.

Sinha’s regular outbursts hit a nerve in Bihar, where Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior party leader Sushil Modi has adviced Sinha to quit saying Sinha had “fallen into the bad company of Yashwant Sinha.”

Court gives bail to British national accused in killing of Hindu leaders as Police fail to complete investigation

Jagtar Singh Johal alias Jaggi Johal, a suspect in the killings of Hindu leaders, has been granted bail by a Faridkot court in Punjab. Another suspect Taljit Singh has also been granted bail by the court. Both Jaggi and Taljit Singh were arrested in November 2017 after a case was filed against them in Bajakhana police station for alleged funding of Khalistani terrorist activities.

The bail was granted as the Punjab Police failed to complete its investigation into the charges against both the persons and submit its chargesheet within the stipulated period of 90 days.

Jaggi, who is a resident of Glasgow, Scotland, is a staunch Khalistani supporter as claimed by the police. The arrest of Jaggi had created a huge political uproar with political leaders from across the parties coming out in support of Jaggi. National Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh had accused Punjab police of harassing Jaggi. Aam Admi Party leader Bhagwant Maan had also extended support for Jaggi and had questioned the police investigation. Canadian ministers Amarjit Sohi and Harjeet Singh Sajjan had also accused the Punjab police of using third degree on Jaggi.

Surrounded by questions, Punjab police had assured that the investigation would be carried out as per the law. The police have claimed to have sufficient evidence against Jaggi. The British High Commissioner at Chandigarh had been monitoring the whole case and had not objected to the arrest of Jaggi.
