Massive population decline in South Korea: 150 schools have no first graders to enrol

In February this year, the Ministry of Education in South Korea said that 157 elementary schools across the country do not have any first graders to enrol in the month of March. This comes as a record-low number of new students have enrolled in schools in South Korea as this school year started.

Except for Seoul, Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, and Sejong, the ministry said that almost every province and metropolitan district in South Korea had at least one elementary school that was not expecting new students. North Jeolla Province led all regions with 34 schools with no new students enrolling.

The ministry stated that 369,325 children have been confirmed to enrol in primary school when the school year begins in March, accounting for 99.9 per cent of the 369,441 children scheduled to begin state-mandated education this year. This figure is lower than the government’s January estimate of 396,533.

It will be the lowest number of new first graders since the government began keeping track in 1970, and the first time the total has fallen below 400,000. Last year, 401,907 new students were admitted to primary school.

According to a report published by The Korea Herald in February of this year, the number of new children starting school was largely expected to fall this year, as just 357,771 babies were born in 2017 — when the majority of this year’s first graders were born. It represented a significant decrease from the 406,243 births the previous year.

Notably, South Korea is witnessing a sharp population decline over the last few years. The country’s yearly population growth in 2024 is projected to be 0.08%, as per Worldometer data. Notably, the population of South Korea as of April 2024 is 51,752,215.

South Korea’s fertility rate, which was already the lowest in the world, continued to plummet in 2023. This, according to reports came as women concerned about their career advancement and the financial expense of rearing children opted to delay childbirth or decided not to have kids. In addition to childcare concerns, housing, employment, and education costs-related challenges have also contributed to this decline.

The average number of expected babies for a South Korean woman during her reproductive life dropped to a historic low of 0.72 from 0.78 in 2022, according to Statistics Korea.

The situation is such that the South Korean government has taken several measures to boost the country’s population including childcare subsidies. Multiple media reports say that the South Korean government since 2006 have spent over $247 billion to boost the country’s population, however, these measures have not yielded any significantly positive results as desired.

Last month, it was reported that a South Korean construction company Booyoung Group had proposed to pay $75,000 (roughly 62.28 lakh in Indian rupees) to its employees each time they have a kid to combat the country’s low birth rate. As per the report, Joong-keun further said that employees with three newborns will be given the option of getting $225,000 ( ₹ 1,86,78,318) in cash or rental housing if the government supplies land for the building.

Kapil Sibal repeats opposition lies on electoral bonds in an interview with The Wire, claims Future Gaming, which made largest donation to TMC & DMK, has ‘quid pro quo’ ties to BJP

With nothing left in the tank, the opposition parties and the leftist milieu are clinging to the issue of political donations via electoral bonds as a final straw to criticise the Narendra Modi-led BJP government as the 18th Lok Sabha election draws nearer.

The latest to join the bandwagon is non other than senior Supreme Court advocate; former Congress veteran leader and UPA Minister Kapil Sibal. In an interview with the ultra-leftist news portal The Wire, Sibal went on to lie that the BJP had illegally taken ‘bribes’ in electoral bonds as a quid pro quo arrangement to provide legal security or frame favourable laws to Future Gaming and Hotel Services at the time when ED probed the company in 2022.

To bolster this conspiracy theory, Sibal, not for a second, hesitated to lie through his teeth. However, Sibal’s claims were soon debunked by popular X user Ankur Singh who shared data which revealed that the amount of money that Sibal claimed the BJP had received was in reality received by the TMC and DMK.

Sharing a clip of the interview with The Wire where Kapil Sibal is heard spreading fake news on Electoral Bonds to malign BJP, popular X user Ankur Singh wrote, “How @KapilSibal spreads Fake News on Electoral Bonds. Sibal lists details of Electoral Bonds purchased but the bonds went to DMK and TMC.”

Along with the clip of the interview, the X user shared a chart in which he highlighted the claims made by the former veteran Congress leader vis-a-vis the reality.

Journalist Karan Thapar of The Wire asks Kapil Sibal to expand on his points of view, which he brought up on his show “Dil Se,” namely that the BJP had received funds from electoral bonds in exchange for quid pro quo and/or possible extortion from the Enforcement Directorate or CBI.

In answer to Karan Tapar’s question, Kapil Sibal starts by giving the example of Future Gaming and Hotel Services, owned by scam-tainted Santiago Martin. The former leader of the Congress provided a series of dates in an attempt to paint a picture that the BJP obtained donations from companies such as Future Gaming through coercion by probing agencies.

The ex-Congress leader started by saying that on April 2, 2022, ED attached assets worth Rs 409 crores of Future Gaming and Hotel Services. On April 7 Future Gaming and Hotel Services purchased electoral bonds worth Rs 100 crores which, according to Sibal, the company gave in the form of donations to the BJP.

The Congress leader cited another set of dates to insinuate that merely 4 days after ED again attached properties of Future Gaming and Hotel Services on July 2, 2022, the company purchased Electoral Bonds worth 75 crores, and again gave them to the BJP in the form of donations.

Kapil Sibal further said, “If you match this with as to when the bonds were purchased, you realise and there has been investigation done that on that particular day in Chennai and Tamil Nadu, only one entity purchased those bonds. Therefore if only one entity purchased those bonds and those bonds were received by the BJP and this is happening immediately after the raids of the ED then quid pro quo is established.”

Kapil Sibal was essentially, attempting to peddle the same conspiracy theory that the entire leftist ecosystem has been peddling that the Electoral Bond scheme was a scam, “extortion”. According to their “calibrated” claims, selective donations including the one from firms like Future Gaming were part of a “quid pro quo”. According to their conspiracy theory, the BJP extorted money from scam-tainted firms like Future Gaming and Hotel Services to provide legal security or frame favourable laws.

Throughout his whole defence, Kapil Sibal insisted that Future Gaming and Hotel Services was the only company that had bought electoral bonds during that period and that the BJP was the only political party that received electoral bonds as donations at that time. Additionally, given that the entire transaction took place at the same time that the Enforcement Department raided Future Gaming and Hotel Services, Kapil Sibal jumped to the conclusion that the BJP had either extorted money from the latter to shield it from the agency’s investigation or that the latter had given the former a bribe to avoid being investigated by the latter.

Sibal was well aware of the fact that Santiago Martin, the “lottery king” and owner of Future Gaming and Hotel Services, has close ties to several political parties, including the Congress party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala, the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. Furthermore, the majority of the bonds that Future Gaming bought were donated to the Trinamool Congress followed by DMK and others. But instead of bringing these important facts to the public’s attention, Kapil Sibal decided to overlook them in his attempts to criticise the BJP.

The truth is that, in a fresh set of data related to Electoral Bonds published by the Election Commission on March 17, it was revealed that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) received Electoral Bonds worth Rs 509 crore from Santiago Martin’s Future Gaming.

In his post, X user Ankur Singh also highlighted how the Electoral Bond which the Future Gaming and Hotel Services bought on April 7, 2022, five days after ED seized assets worth Rs 409 crores of ‘lottery king’ Santiago Martin, was donated to Tamil Nadu’s DMK party.

Similarly, on July 6, 4 days after ED again raided the properties of Santiago Martin, his company, Future Gaming and Hotel Services bought Electoral Bonds worth a total of Rs 75 crores. Rs 50 crore from this amount was received by DMK and the rest Rs 25 crores were donated to the Trinamool Congress.

Despite this information being readily available to the public forum, former Congress veteran leader Kapil Sibal went on to lie blatantly to accuse the BJP of receiving those amounts from Future Gaming and Hotel Services instead of saving the company from ED scrutiny. He conveniently hid the fact that it was not BJP but DMK and TMC which had received the said amount.

He repeated the same conspiracy theory that is being peddled by the entire leftist ecosystem that the BJP has indulged in corruption and used electoral bonds as a legal way to force corporate houses to donate.

‘Modi 10 saal se tumhari lagai aag bhuja raha hai’: PM Modi lashes out at Congress for fear-mongering ‘India on fire’ over Lok Sabha elections defeat

Addressing a Public rally in Kotputli, Rajasthan on 2nd April, PM Modi slammed the Congress party stating that it is the root cause of every problem. In contrast, he added that BJP means development and solution. Behind every major issue, the root cause is Congress. Poverty persisted in the nation for seven decades because of Congress. India had to depend on other nations for advanced technology and defence hardware, they didn’t let our armed forces to become self-reliant (Atmanirbhar), PM Modi added.

PM Modi added that from being a defence importer, India is now becoming a defence exporter. Yesterday, India set a new record when the country’s defence export crossed Rs 21,000 crore for the first time. India is currently exporting ‘Made in India’ defence hardware to more than 80 countries. PM Modi re-iterated, “Niyat sahi to natije sahi.” (Translation – If the intentions are right, results will be good.)

Congress is displaying dangerous intentions: PM Modi

PM Modi lambasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for threatening that the whole country will be on fire if BJP wins the elections and amends the constitution.

He emphasised that Congress has displayed its dangerous intentions. In a defeatist mindset, they are threatening the country saying, “Agar BJP tisri bar jeeti, desh me aag lag jayegi.”

The Prime Minister added, “Modi 10 saal se tumhari lagai aag ko bhuja raha hai,” (Translation – Modi has been dousing the fire they set ablaze for the last ten years while being in power.)

PM Modi asserted that currently, politics is bifurcated in two camps. On one side, BJP works with the mindset of Nation First while Congress tries to find ways to plunder the country. While the BJP considers the country as its family, Congress considers its family above national interest. Additionally, BJP is improving the nation’s repute on the world stage, while Congress abuse the country on foreign soil.

The Prime Minister further added that Rajasthan has always staunchly stood against such ‘anti-India’ dynastic politics.

He further added, “I raise questions on Corrupt and dynastic politics, hence i am on their target. They abuse me, saying Modi has no family so he doesn’t need to do corruption. They have family, does that give them license to do corruption? Let them say whatever they want to say. For me, you are my family. Mera Bharat, Mera Parivar. Apka Sapna hi, Modi ka Sankalp hai.”

The ration will continue for the next five years, PM Modi added.

Earlier in his address, PM Modi asserted that public enthusiasm indicate the result of 4th June. He noted that Rajasthan has decided, ‘Fir ek bar Modi sarkar’. The whole country is saying, 4 June, 400 paar. This election is to make the country the third largest economy, to weed out Corruption, fulfil the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat, farmers’ welfare, to give ‘Har Ghar Jal’, PM Modi said.

This is the first such election when dynastic parties are doing one rally after another to save corrupt and stop action against Corruption. PM Modi added, “We say ‘Bhrashtachaar hatao’. But they say ‘Bhrashtachaari ko bachao’.”

PM Modi stressed that for others, building toilets may be a joke, but for him, it is his emotional connection with the issue of women’s dignity.

They had fear mongered about Article 370 and Ram Mandir that these issues would give electric shock or burn the country (will have large ramifications on the country).

He said, “Some of them say, Modi ji you have done a lot, now rest aside, they forget that Modi is not there to have fun, Modi is born to do hard work. A lot has been achieved in the last ten years, but it is just the trailer. BJP’s third term will be of bigger reform and development.”

PM Modi slammed Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remarks after possible electoral defeat

Earlier in the day, PM Modi had vowed to take more stringent action against Corruption in his third term.

Addressing the rally in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, PM Modi asserted, “We say ‘Bhrashtachaar hatao’. But they say ‘Bhrashtachaari ko bachao’. Only a few months are left for our third term to begin and in this third term there will be even bigger action against corruption.”

Slamming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his provocative remarks, PM Modi urged the people of Uttarakhand to wipe out Congress from the country.

He stated, “The royal prince of Congress has claimed that the country will burn if the people of India vote for BJP for the 3rd time.”

“People who have been in power for 60 years in the country are talking about setting the country on fire after having remained without power for just a period of 10 years,” he added.

“Can you accept this threat to set the country on fire? Will you let this country burn? Is it right to use such a language? Is this language acceptable in a democratic country?” he asked.

“Will you punish such people? Sure? Chun Chun ke saaf kardo (Wipe them out individually). Do not let them fight in the battleground this time,” PM Modi urged.

Sunita Kejriwal set to be Delhi’s Rabri Devi? Holds meeting with AAP MLAs as top party leaders including her husband stay in jail

As Aam Aadmi Party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to Tihar Jail, his wife Sunita Kejriwal held a meeting on Tuesday (2nd April) with party MLAs today. The AAP leaders Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Kailash Gahlot, among others, were present during the meeting. Sunita Kejriwal’s active involvement in Delhi politics after CM Kejriwal’s arrest has sparked speculations that she is set to become Delhi’s Rabri Devi.

During the meeting, AAP MLAs reportedly assured Sunita Kejriwal that two crore people of Delhi support Arvind Kejriwal and that he should not resign at any cost. Of the AAP’s 62 MLAs in Delhi, 55 were present for the meeting. Four MLAs are absent as they were out of station, while three— Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain are in jail.

Speaking about the party meeting, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “AAP MLAs have come here today to meet Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal to express sympathies. We told Bhabhi [Sunita Kejriwal] that the BJP would pressurise and will give baseless statements so that Arvind Kejriwal would resign from the Chief Minister’s position. Only she will be able to meet him in Tihar jail. Therefore, we told her to give him our message that ‘Arvind Kejriwal is and will be the CM of Delhi’.”

Meeting comes just after Atishi claimed that BJP tried to poach her

The meeting of AAP MLAs with Sunita Kejriwal came just hours after AAP leader and minister Atishi claimed in a press conference that the BJP tried to poach her through her close associate. Moreover, she asserted that PM Narendra Modi and the BJP have decided to ‘crush’ AAP and in this line, they will arrest her, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Durgesh Pathak and Raghav Chadha in the coming two months.

Delhi BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva commented on Sunita Kejriwal’s meeting with MLAs and said that a power struggle within the Aam Aadmi Party is going on. “Nobody trusts anyone. Kejriwal revealed the names of Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj in court. Sunita Kejriwal is gradually attempting to take control of the party, as she is aware that Arvind Kejriwal has committed wrongdoing and his chances of coming out of jail are zero.”

As reported earlier, Kejriwal has been sent to judicial custody till 15th April. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had asked for fifteen days of judicial custody of custody of Kejriwal, citing his ‘non-cooperative behaviour’. The CM was produced in Rouse Avenue Court as his custody ended on Monday.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on 21st March by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case. The trial court remanded Kejriwal to ED detention until 28th March.

Supreme Court grants bail to AAP leader Sanjay Singh in Delhi Liquor Policy scam case after ED submitted it has no objection

In a major relief for Aam Aadmi Party, the Supreme Court on Tuesday (2nd March) granted bail to AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case. Notably, the Enforcement Directorate had submitted before the court that it had no objection to the AAP leader’s bail plea.

After ED informed the court that it no longer required his custody, the bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and Prasanna B Varale granted bail to the AAP leader.

Before the lunch break, the bench had asked Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju to seek instructions on whether Singh’s further custody was required or not.

ED said they no longer need Sanjay Singh’s custody

Later in the afternoon, ASG Raju said though the ED had an arguable case, it was ready to concede and thus Singh may be released on bail.

According to reports, the court noted that if it granted bail to the AAP leader on the merit of the case, despite ED’s opposition, then it could have an implication during the trial of the Liquor policy case. Citing Section 45 of PMLA, the court noted that it is required to provide the Public prosecutor an opportunity to clear their stance on bail plea.

Notably, under Section 45 of the PMLA, the Court is mandated to allow the Public Prosecutor a chance to contest the bail application of the accused. Furthermore, it specifies that the Court may grant bail to the accused only if it is convinced that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the accused is innocent of the offense and that there is no likelihood of them committing any offense while on bail.

While hearing Singh’s bail plea, the Court remarked, “Mr. Raju please keep in mind we have to as per Section 45 observe in favour of the petitioner, please understand the implications of that during the trial. So get instructions on whether you need further custody.”

The bench added that businessman Dinesh Arora, the accused-turned-approver in the case, had not implicated Singh in his initial statements.

Following the court’s observation, the ED submitted that it no longer required the custody of the AAP leader, prompting the bench to grant him bail.

The ED arrested Sanjay Singh on 4th October, last year in the money laundering case stating that he had a role in framing and implementing the now-scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy.

As per the ED, the controversial policy was aimed at benefiting certain liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.

Earlier, Singh’s bail plea was rejected by a trial court on 22nd December, the Delhi High Court rejected his bail application on 9th February. Afterward, he moved to the top court to seek bail.

Currently, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and several other AAP leaders are in judicial or agency’s custody in this case.

Rifts wide open in I.N.D.I. Alliance: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan slams Rahul Gandhi for fighting against ‘ally’ in Wayanad, blames Congress for Kejriwal’s arrest

On Monday (1st April), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came down heavily on Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family scion Rahul Gandhi. The Kerala CM said, “Why is he fighting from Wayanad against I.N.D.I. alliance partner CPI(M)?”

Addressing a press conference amid Lok Sabha poll campaigning, Pinarayi Vijayan said that Rahul Gandhi’s main rival in Wayanad is not the BJP, but rather the LDF candidate Annie Raja. He argued that the Gandhi scion should have avoided this and instead fought against the BJP directly.

Raising questions over Rahul Gandhi’s decision to fight from Wayanad, Vijayan said, “He (Rahul Gandhi) has an important role in the Congress party. Why is he contesting from here? Is he fighting Surendran or the BJP here? Here, LDF is the major power, and he is here to fight the Left.”

Pinarayi Vijayan lamented that the I.N.D.I.A. bloc was formed to fight against the BJP. The Kerala Chief Minister asked, “However, a senior leader, part of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, comes to Kerala to fight the LDF, which is also part of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc. What should we understand from this?”

He further stated, “Rahul Gandhi is facing (CPI leader) Annie Raja at Wayanad. She is a senior Left leader with national stature.” The communist leader claimed that Annie Raja was branded as ‘anti-national’ for bringing out cruelty meted out against the Christians in Manipur, yet, Rahul Gandhi is fighting against her.

Raising questions on Rahul Gandhi’s contribution, the Communist veteran said everybody is questioning his decision to come to Kerala but not competing against the BJP directly at the centre.

The Kerala CM added, “But what’s the role of Rahul Gandhi? We have seen many atrocities being carried out in the country, and we could see Annie Raja in the forefront fighting against those. But have we seen Rahul Gandhi anywhere like that?”

“Where to contest is their wish. But the impropriety of Rahul Gandhi contesting from here was discussed by the whole country. Why is he not fighting the BJP and contesting here?” Kerala CM asked.

Kerala CM rakes Congress’ stance on Delhi Liquor scam case

A day after the opposition bloc held a rally in New Delhi against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, Kerala CM lambasted Congress accusing it of playing the key role in ED probe against Arvind Kejriwal.

He stressed that it was the Congress party which levelled the allegations against the Delhi government, demanded the ED probe, and lodged a complaint regarding the matter.

Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that the huge participation of people in the I.N.D.I. alliance rally held in New Delhi on Sunday was a strong warning for the BJP. However, he also advised Congress party stating that it should learn a lesson from the rally.

Kerala CM slammed the stand Congress party had taken in the Delhi liquor policy scam case adding that it should ‘introspect’ when it attacks non-Congress parties.

Pointing out Congress’ role in ED probe against their I.N.D.I. alliance partner Arvind Kejriwal, Vijayan noted, “It was the Congress which raised the allegation against the Delhi government. It was the Congress which filed a complaint in that regard, paving the way for the probe by the Enforcement Directorate.”

He further stated that when former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested, the Congress had demanded the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. Noting that Congress later changed its stance, he asked Congress to admit their ‘mistake’, hinting that it should apologise for its earlier stance.

The communist leader said, “They asked why Kejriwal was not arrested. This was the stand taken by the Congress. However, they changed their stance, which is a welcome move. The Congress leadership should acknowledge their mistake.

Notably, Pinarayi Vijayan’s remarks came weeks after the Congress-led UDF in Kerala demanded a probe by Central agencies into various allegations against Kerala government  including the cooperative bank scam case. Additionally, the ED had recently filed a money laundering case against his daughter Veena Vijayan, her company, and a mining firm for alleged irregularities in financial dealings.

Kerala bankrupt: Supreme Court blames Kerala for its financial woes, rejects demand for additional borrowing. Details

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected Kerala’s request for immediate relief, attributing the state’s financial woes to its mishandling of funds. Kerala’s plea for increased borrowing was turned down, and the court referred the state’s challenge against the Centre’s borrowing restrictions to a Constitution bench for further scrutiny.

Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan emphasised that Kerala failed to meet the necessary criteria for an interim injunction on the borrowing cap. They highlighted that granting such relief might establish a precedent enabling states to circumvent fiscal policies despite financial mismanagement.

Acknowledging that Kerala had already received significant relief with the Centre releasing Rs 13,608 crore after the petition, the court directed a five-judge Constitution bench to examine the matter. It posed four key questions for the larger bench to address, including issues of fiscal decentralization in Indian federalism and potential violations of constitutional principles by the Centre’s actions.

The Supreme Court’s decision is a setback for the Kerala government, particularly the LDF administration. The court’s observation of financial mismanagement within the state countered LDF’s claims of the Centre obstructing Kerala’s development by denying loans and necessary funds. The court found no evidence of irreparable harm caused by the Centre’s actions, further weakening the LDF’s arguments.

Had the Supreme Court granted interim relief, it could have boosted the LDF’s political position and facilitated the clearance of pending dues and arrears owed by the state government. However, the court’s alignment with the Centre’s stance means Kerala will continue to face financial constraints due to its internal financial mismanagement.

The Supreme Court’s questions have significant implications for the state’s relationship with the Centre, especially concerning fiscal policies and federal principles. The issue will now be deliberated by a Constitution bench, highlighting the importance of addressing these intricate matters within the Indian federalism framework.

‘Hindus faint if you throw meat in their temple’: 3 Muslim kids detained after throwing meat chunks at temple in Rajasthan, released on court order

On Sunday, 31st March, Rajasthan Police detained three Muslim juveniles for throwing pieces of meat in Lakshmiranayan and Bholeshwar Temple in North Jaipur’s Bhatta Basti Police station area. The court ordered the boys to be released to their parent’s custody as they were between the ages of 10 and 12. The children informed the police that they watched a video on the internet that claimed if they threw pieces of meat in the temple, Hindus would faint.

The police said, “The Muslim boys wanted to do a ‘practical’ and see if Hindus faint or not”.

A copy of the complaint was shared on social media. In the complaint, it was mentioned that when the devotees noticed pieces of meat in the temple premises after 10 AM Aarti. Locals gathered at the temple and they searched the premises and found more pieces on the temple’s roof.

The incident took place on 30th March and 70-year-old Olf Damyanti filed a complaint with the Housing Board Society in Sector 2. In her complaint, she said that when she went to the Lakshmi Narayan Temple to offer prayers in the morning, she noticed pieces of meat on the premises. There were pieces stuck to the wall as well. Soon, people gathered, and police were informed about the incident.

The police initiated an investigation and convinced the agitated Hindu community members to return home. An FIR was registered in the matter. The Hindu community members later cleaned the temple and sprinkled Gangajal for purification.

As the matter was communally sensitive, police took swift action. During the investigation, they found out that three Muslim juveniles boys between the ages of 10-12 were behind the incident. They were detained and presented in the court. Considering their ages, the court ordered the children to release them in their parents’ custody with a warning.

OpIndia contacted the concerned police station for more details. Speaking on the matter, the concerned police official said, “Three Muslim boys were behind the incident. We detained them and presented them in the court. Considering their ages, the court released them. The boys belonged to impoverished families, and their parents were shocked that they had indulged in such an activity. They were crying when we detained them. Though no adult was involved in the matter, it is a matter of concern that the online content influenced them.”

Reports suggest that after watching the video, the children went to a meat shop and collected meat pieces from the garbage. They took the pieces to the temple and threw them in the temple premises at night.

Throwing meat pieces in Hindu temples is not uncommon. There have been several incidents in the past where miscreants threw meat pieces in temples. In July 2022, a similar incident happened in Jharkhand’s Rampur village of Lohardaga district. Reportedly, people belonging to another community hurled a piece of meat inside the premises of the local Shiv temple there. In September 2022, pieces of meat were thrown inside the temple compound in the Shamli district.

‘Chun chun kar saaf kardo’: PM Modi urges people to wipe out Congress from the country

On Tuesday (2nd April), Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people of Uttarakhand to wipe out Congress from the country. He made the remarks during a public meeting at Rudrapur city in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.

At about 32:59 minutes into the programme, PM Modi stated, “The royal prince of Congress has claimed that the country will burn if the people of India vote for BJP for the 3rd time.”

“People who have been in power for 60 years in the country are talking about setting the country on fire after having remained without power for just a period of 10 years,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi then asked the voters to wipe out Congress from this nation.

With the Lok Sabha elections just around the corner, the BJP led by Narendra Modi has upped its ante against the Opposition Congress.

Last Muslim MP elected from Karnataka was 20 years ago: How Congress, who talks about Muslim rights, has hardly fielded Muslim candidates in elections

Minority appeasement in the past seven decades has been the core of the DNA of the Congress party. Be it the general or assembly elections, the entire Congress ecosystem has always tried to woo Muslim voters to win the elections in the country.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, especially, has always favoured and extended support to the Muslim community. He has several times defamed India and Hindus on global platforms peddling lies that ‘Minority communities in India are under attack’. He made such statements against India in Washington, the Cambridge University, and also in New Delhi recently in September this year.

Congress has for decades indulged in appeasement politics but the truth is that the grand old party’s idea of minority empowerment has remained purely rhetorical

Rahul Gandhi has, however, only been carrying forward the grand old party’s legacy of appeasement politics.

As stated in his letter to Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru saw the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple as an ‘act of Hindu-revivalism’. Nehru oversaw the implementation of the Hindu Code Bill and other laws that forced the minority group into silos and separated them into a separate class, despite the calls of Rajendra Prasad and other notables for a Uniform Civil Code. Nehru insisted that Muslims required “extra protection.”

The Muslim Personal Law Board was established under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, which went directly against the letter of Article 44 of the Constitution, which demanded a uniform civil code.

Under Congress Rule, the ‘Waqf Act’ first came into being in India in 1954 and in 1964 Central Waqf Council was constituted under that Act. In August 2022, it came to light that the Congress-led-UPA government gifted 123 government properties in Lutyens’ Delhi to Waqf.

The Muslim Women Protection on Divorce Act was drafted by Rajiv Gandhi specifically to overturn the Supreme Court’s Shah Bano ruling (1986). The Supreme Court’s sanctity and women’s rights were of the least importance to Congress’s appeasement politics.

Manmohan Singh helped radicalization of Congress further by unabashedly stating that Muslims, in particular, have the first claim to the nation’s resources.

Over the years, the politics of minority appeasement have consumed the members of the Congress party. To the surprise of many, the party senior leaders—Salman Khurshid and Digvijay Singh, among others—questioned the 2008 Batla House encounter. Meanwhile, as attested by Salman Khurshid himself in one of his rallies during the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Sonia Gandhi, the then Congress President cried bitterly after seeing the images of the slain Indian Mujahideen terrorists.

However, the party, later on, got into firefighting mode and Congress’ Digvijaya Singh denied any such meeting. Congress leader Pervez Hashmi, who was part of the delegation that met Sonia Gandhi also denied having seen her cry. “She was worried,” he had then clarified. Eventually, 7 years later, even Khurshid said that she never cried.

In the recent past one of the most glaring glimpses of the Congress party’s submission to Islamism was its decision to review AFSPA should it come to power in 2019.

Notably, the demand for the removal of AFSPA has long been the focus of radical Islamic organizations and far-left institutions inimical to Indian interests. These organizations have peddled the most nefarious of propaganda which has only served as a tool to radicalize the youth of Kashmir.

In addition to this, the 2019 Congress manifesto made other promises to the Muslim community as well. It said on page 42, “The Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Bill, 2014 will be re-introduced and passed. Waqf properties will be restored to the legal trustees.” In addition to that, “Congress promises to uphold the character of Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia as minority educational institutions.”

The Congress, for which minority appeasement has been the most obsessive pursuit and political agenda, as recently as last year, expressed support for granting special rights to minorities in terms of national resources. The statement was made by Congress veteran leader and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai had then slammed the state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and accused him of indulging in minority appeasement politics while doing “injustice” to Dalits and tribal communities.

These are but a few examples of the many occasions Congress has resorted to appeasement politics. The Grand Old Party’s compulsive practice of appeasing minorities has not only radicalised the Congress but also forced India to confront the menace of illegal infiltrators in West Bengal and Assam, changing the country’s demographics and sparking decades of insurgencies. The impact is evident in Muslims who appear to maintain the sociopolitical perspective of the pre-independence era, according to which they belong to a separate class within the nation.

The nation has suffered more than benefited from the grand old party’s obsessive politics of minority appeasement. This political game has been played by the leaders of Congress for a long time, unfazed. Still, it won’t be a stretch to argue that Congress’ idea of empowering minorities has stayed purely rhetorical. You might be surprised to hear that Congress, in Karnataka, for example, has rarely fielded a Muslim candidate in the past in any of the parliamentary elections.

The grand old party has hardly given tickets to Muslim candidates in Karnataka

In fact, Karnataka has sent only one Muslim MP to Lok Sabha in the last 20 years- Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi from Gulbarga in 2004 – with the three major political parties (BJP, Congress and JDU) not fielding many candidates. And, independents and those from smaller unrecognised parties seldom stand a chance of winning in Parliamentary polls.

Let us take the 2014 Lok Sabha polls for example. Congress, BJP and JD(S) together fielded only three candidates from Karnataka. Out of these three, Congress fielded two, one from the Haveri constituency and the second from Bengaluru Central.

Likewise, in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the grand old party gave a ticket to only one Muslim candidate in Karnataka- Rizwan Arshad from Bangalore Central constituency, out of a total of 21 seats Congress contested after seat sharing agreement with JD(U).

Similarly, Congress and JD(U) in Karnataka together fielded four Muslim candidates in 2004 and three in 2009, which makes it a total of 11 Muslim candidates in the past four elections. BJP has not even fielded a single Muslim candidate in Karnataka in these years. This takes the numbers to less than 10 per cent of the 112 candidates they collectively fielded in the said period.

This year too, there is just one candidate, Congress’ Bangalore Central candidate Mansoor Ali Khan, who is taking on three-time BJP MP PC Mohan.
