Following the Congress party’s disastrous performance in the three Hindi heartlands of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has voiced concerns over the I.N.D.I. Alliance’s survival. Furthermore, he denounced the Congress for disregarding the opposition bloc and its affiliated political parties.

Talking about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s incredible performance he stated, “BJP should be congratulated because we were not expecting this result. We were hearing from our allies that in Chhattisgarh, the Congress would come to power easily, they would win in Madhya Pradesh as well, they were confident in Telangana and they were even saying that in the end, they would come out victorious in Rajasthan as well.”

He remarked that Congress was certain it would establish its government in Telangana and that only their claim in the southern state held up when the results were announced. “Neither could they save Chhattisgarh, nor win back Madhya Pradesh nor could they win in Rajasthan again.”

He added, “If you see Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath was the Chief Minister for a short time, but leaving that aside, for around 20 years BJP was in power. This is BJP’s fifth term. This is huge,” and further revealed, “On December 6, the Congress chief invited some I.N.D.I. Alliance leaders for lunch. They recalled the bloc after three months. Let’s see.”

The National Conference vice-president didn’t appear optimistic about the prospects of the opposition and noted, “I cannot say anything. The situation of the I.N.D.I. Alliance in the state elections, if the same continues in the future, then we will not be able to save ourselves.”

He also brought up the issue of denying a ticket to ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi party in Madhya Pradesh. “The Congress could not understand the ground situation in Madhya Pradesh. What would have they lost if they had given 5-7 seats to Akhilesh Yadav,” he questioned and mentioned, “They have lost anyway. It is possible that if Akhilesh Yadav was given a few seats, we could save ourselves a little in MP. Now the results are out.”

“What storm could have blown? What have they won now? The results are in front of everyone now,” the exasperated politician asked. “The NC will be standing on its own,” he answered while addressing the issue of whether his party is going to contest with the I.N.D.I. Alliance in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election.

“A former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh asked us about our performance in the state. We told him how many seats we had won and when as well as in which seats we stood at number two. We had a comprehensive discussion. They woke up Samajwadi Party leaders even at 1 a.m. They assured us six seats. However, when the lists were announced, there were zero seats for the Samajwadi Party,” Akhilesh Yadav had complained after Congress ignored his party before the assembly poll in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, on 6 December leaders of the opposition bloc which consists of twenty-six political parties are scheduled to convene at the Delhi home of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to devise a plan for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to reports in the media, the leaders are expected to meet and decide the strategy to fight the BJP before the elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday termed BJP’s victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh as historic and said various sections including the poor, farmers and tribal brothers and sisters were seeing it as their victory.

Addressing the party workers and supporters at BJP headquarters here, the Prime Minister said the idea of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ has won.

Attacking opposition parties, specially the Congress, he said there were efforts to divide the country based on castes.

“In this election, there were efforts to divide the country based on castes. I kept saying that for me, four castes are important – Nari Shakti, Yuva Shakti, Kisaan aur Gareeb Parivaar,” he said.

“Today’s victory is historical and unprecedented. The idea of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ has won today. Today’s victory is of a path towards developed India. It is a victory of our resolve towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. This is a victory of honest, transparent governance,” he added.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to women for their support to the BJP.

“I want to express my gratitude to the ‘Nari Shakti’ of the country. I would often say during my rallies that ‘Nari Shakti’ has decided that BJP’s flag will rise high in the elections,” he said.

“Today every poor is saying that he has won. Every deprived person has a feeling that he has won the election. Every farmer says that he has won this election. Today, every tribal brother and sister is happy thinking that the victory he has turned…his own. Every first-time voter is saying with great pride that my first vote has become the reason for my victory,” he added.

The Prime Minister said in his political career he has refrained from predictions.

“But this time, I broke this rule. In Rajasthan. I predicted that Congress would not return in Rajasthan…I had confidence in the people of Rajasthan,” he said.

He lauded party workers for their work during the polls. The Prime Minister said the BJP has also improved its performance in Telangana. Counting of votes was taken up for Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly polls on Sunday.

In a high-stakes battle in the Kamareddy constituency of Telangana, BJP’s Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy defeated K Chandrasekhar Rao of BRS and state Congress chief A Revanth Reddy in a close fight. In a triangular fight, he garnered 66,652 votes while his competitors KCR and Revanth Reddy got 59,911 and 54,916 votes to finish in second and third positions respectively. 

While the Congress party has won the assembly elections in Telangana defeating the ruling BRS, the defeat of the state Congress chief has come as an embarrassment for the party, as he was the top contender for the CM’s post. Notably, there were 39 candidates in the constituency.

Following his victory, the businessman-turned-politician KV Ramana Reddy thanked the people of Kamareddy. He tweeted, “This victory belongs to all the people of Kamareddy constituency.”

Kamareddy assembly constituency is part of the Nizamabad district. Gampa Govardhan of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now Bhartiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had won this seat last time, in the 2018 elections. 

Notably, KCR has twice served as the Chief Minister of the newest-formed state and has been in power since June 2014. On the other hand, it is being claimed that Congress state Chief A Revanth Reddy is leading the race for Chief Ministership if Congress forms its government in the state, as per the current trend seems highly likely, even though he has lost the elections.

As a result, after his triumph, he is being projected as a ‘giant killer’ who has defeated the outgoing and possibly the next CM of Telangana indicating a ground swell and emergence of leaders for the saffron party in the Southern state.

Hailing his victory, Former Union Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, “Please don’t ignore this great man! BJP’s Katipally Venkata Ramana defeated both the sitting CM of Telangana, KCR, and Congress CM candidate, Revanth Reddy from the Kamareddy Assembly seat. This is a major victory which is not being discussed at all!” 

BJP’s Telangana state President G Kishan Reddy tweeted, “It’s Saffron Wave in Kamareddy. Hearty Congratulations to Shri Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy @kvr4kamareddy on winning the Kamareddy seat. It is extremely heartening that our Kamareddy Candidate, Shri Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy has defeated both the Telangana CM KCR and the President of the Telangana Congress, Shri A. Revanth Reddy. This shows that the BJP candidates have the Telangana people’s support and can humble any leader of any stature.”

As per the current trend, Congress is set to win Telangana, defeating the ruling BRS. Congress is winning 64 seats, against 39 by BRS. BJP is winning 8 seats, 1 more than 7 expected to be won by AIMIM.

The Congress has suffered a major political loss after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral triumph in the three key states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh as well as strengthen its position in Telangana where the Congress party has managed to defeat the incumbent K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi government.

The defeat of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s administration in Chhattisgarh has now been mocked by the winning party using the Mahadev app scam which grabbed a lot of headlines lately. Reacting to the phenomenal performance of his party, Youth Affairs and Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Modi government Anurag Singh Thakur stated, “Mahadev ka shraap, Congress saaf,” which means that the Congress party lost in the three states including Chhattisgarh because of Lord Mahadev’s curse.

He pointed out that the Chhattisgarh administration helmed by the Congress had broken its promises while in office. While addressing the BJP’s exceedingly impressive election tally in the assembly elections, he highlighted that everyone in the region was aware that they could engage in corruption and then pay off Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. He called this strategy the “Bhupe campaign” a pun on the name of the chief minister and the online payment service PhonePe.

He charged that the state of Chhattisgarh became an ATM for the Congress party and one scam after another tarnished the name of the chief minister and the Congress party. Notably, the BJP has recorded outstanding numbers since late morning on the day of the results, 3rd December, even though the counting of votes is still ongoing in some constituencies.

On 15 November during the election campaign, Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah accused CM Bhupesh Baghel of defaming Lord Mahadev by naming the controversial betting app after him. “If they had to engage in betting, they could have done it in the name of Bhupesh Baghel. Why did he use the name Mahadev,” he had asked at a rally in Chhattisgarh.

The Mahadev app is an illicit online betting platform that laundered the money it collected from players who aren’t in India. Four individuals, including primary accused Saurabh Chandrakar and Madhya Pradesh’s Ravi Uppal, developed the Mahadev betting software which progressively supplanted at least ten other similar illegal betting apps that were in widespread usage across the nation.

A few of the apps that were formerly a part of the Mahadev betting fold are Lotus 365 and ReddyAnna. India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Pakistan are all connected to Mahadev Online Book (MOB) through its headquarters in the United Arab Emirates.

According to new evidence gleaned from a search operation on 2nd November, the Mahadev app promoters had previously made regular payments to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and as of 3rd November, they paid him around Rs 508 crore. The information was disclosed by the Enforcement Directorate which is looking into the Mahadev app fraud for possible money laundering activities.

Credible tips were received by the national agency which on 2nd November successfully carried out search operations in Chhattisgarh which resulted in the seizure of Rs 5.39 crore in cash in the state.

Christian pastor arrested in Darjeeling for duping Nagaland woman by making her pay Rs 3.5 crore for ‘mystery box’

On Sunday, December 3, a pastor from West Bengal’s Darjeeling district was arrested for allegedly duping a woman from Dimapur in Nagaland into buying a ‘mystery box’ for Rs 3.5 crore that would bring her riches. According to Dimapur Police, the accused Reverend Timothy Joshi, pastor of New Life Church Ministry in Darjeeling’s Kantibhita, would dupe unsuspecting Christians into numerous frauds.

Reportedly, the accused told the victim that the fortune box was on sale for Rs. 3.4 crore, but that its real value was assessed to be Rs. 22 crore.

According to the DCP (Crime) and PRO Dimapur police, the victim was introduced to one Manish Awasti, posing as the managing director of RM Trading Company, who promised to buy the “Mystery Box” for Rs.22 crore on the condition that the victim first invest in the box by paying Rs. 4 crore. As a result, the victim sent Rs. 3.5 crore to multiple scammers’ accounts in a series of bank payments between 2019 and 2020.

According to a Nagaland Post report, the victim was invited to Kolkata where she stayed in a five-star Hotel and fraudsters posing as high-profile businessmen with bodyguards came in SUVs to meet her. The scammers and victim got into two cars and drove to a location near the Bangladesh border to retrieve the purported “Mystery Box” and then returned. The car carrying the victim arrived first at the hotel, and while waiting for the car carrying the consignment, accused pastor Timothy arrived and informed the victim that the police had received the information and were pursuing the car to confiscate the “Mystery Box.” He claimed that although he managed to escape and reach the hotel, the driver carrying the mystery box drove away out of fear of the police.

The victim sensed that she had been scammed, and then returned home. When she tried to contact the accused pastor and his accomplices seeking her money back, they stopped taking her calls.

Subsequently, an FIR was filed, and the East Police Station team investigated the matter using digital communication evidence, tracing the accused’s location to Khantibhita (Darjeeling), where he was caught and brought before Dimapur Court.

According to the authorities, the accused Reverend Timothy exploited his position as a reputable Christian pastor to attract unsuspecting followers into several kinds of scams orchestrated by him. The police said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the “Mystery Box” was nothing but an empty box which was made solely to deceive the victim.

After the trend of the election projected that BJP would form government in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, Congress supporters led by Tamil Nadu Congress leader Karti Chidambaram started sharing divisive posts fanning the ‘North-South divide’. They insinuated and tried to cast aspersions on BJP’s victory and North voters as ‘communal’, ‘casteist’, and uneducated lots. 

Senior Congress leader and son of Former UPA Home Minister P Chidambaram, Karti tweeted, “The SOUTH!”

Similarly, Chairman of Congress’ data analytic department Praveen Chakravarty wrote, “The South-North boundary line getting thicker & clearer!” along with a picture stating ‘South vs North’ written on it. However, after facing massive backlash, he deleted the tweet.

Another Twitter user claimed that the results show that “India’s split is complete” and it is “progressive South vs Communal North”. The post read, “India’s split is now complete. It’s progressive South vs Communal North. I dont know for how long the south will pay for and carry the north’s bigotry.”

In another tweet, he referred to the North Indian belt as Bimaru and the “dung belt”. The user said, “All the bigots from North India are showing us why they are called bimaru and dung belt in comments.” 

Author Mini Nair who has written for the propaganda portal Newsclick wrote, “South India- BJPRSS mukt!!”  

A Twitter user named Anita Jacob tweeted, “Hence proved – South is aware and  North is still lagging far behind.”

Another user tried to target migrant workers, wrote, “They vote for Bjp in the Hindi Belt and then go down to the South for Work.”

However, the handles spreading the divisive ‘North-South’ rhetoric were slammed by netizens. Several users also highlighted points to bust the myth of this ‘North-South’ divide.

Popular Twitter user Mr. Sinha lambasted the support of such leaders. He wrote, “He’s (Praveen Chakravarty who shared North-South divide poster) chairman of Congress’s data analytic department, he wants India to divide into (again) two pieces “South & North”. Anybody who votes/supports these naughties are anti-nationals.”

Research fellow Prasanna Karthik took a jibe at the Congress party for its anti-thetical stance, creating a rift through the North-South divide while claiming to ‘unit’ India by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. 

He said, “One can’t walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in the name of uniting India, and talk of a north-south divide after losing an election. Like Vajpayee eloquently put it, “Elections come and go. Parties come and go. Politicians come and go. But India and the idea of India shall long endure.”

Election Commission suspends Telangana DGP for congratulating Congress before declaration of final results, issues notices to 2 other top cops

On 3rd December (Sunday) in an unprecedented move, the Election Commission of India ordered the suspension of Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar for violating the model code of conduct. The suspension order came after the DGP went to meet a Congress leader to congratulate him for winning the elections, even before the final election results were declared by the ECI.

Reportedly, the EC has directed the next seniormost eligible police officer to immediately take charge as Telangana DGP. The action was taken after the now-suspended DGP Anjani Kumar went on to greet Congress’ Telangana Chief Revanth Reddy who was the star campaigner of the Congress party in the state and was himself contesting in these elections, results of which are yet to be announced.

While meeting with the Congress Chief, Kumar was accompanied by Sanjay Jain, State Police Nodal Officer, Telangana, and Mahesh Bhagwat, Nodal (Expenditure). The top cops in the state went to meet the Congress leader with a bouquet at around 12.30, at relatively early stages of the counting.

Apart from suspending the DGP, the poll panel also issued notices to Mahesh Bhagwat and Sanjay Jain seeking explanations for meeting a election candidate when the counting was still going on. They are expected to respond to the notices by 8 PM Sunday/

As per reports citing EC sources, Kumar’s meeting with the Congress Chief is an indication of a “mala fide” intention of seeking favours. The stern action stems from the fact that bureaucracy is considered to play a non-partisan role during the election process to ensure ‘free and fair’ elections that are pre-requisite in a democratic setup. 

The sources said, “The DGP opting to meet a contesting candidate out of the total of 2,290 and the star campaigner of one political party out of 16 political parties in the fray was a clear indication of mala fide intention of seeking favour.” 

Journalist Bharti Jain of the Times of India tweeted, “In an unprecedented move, EC suspends Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar for going and meeting state Congress chief Revanth Reddy even as counting was on in the state. The action is a stern message to the bureaucracy to maintain non-partisanship during the poll process.”

The series of tweets further stated, “EC sources: The DGP’s meeting with Reddy, a contesting candidate, and star campaigner for Congress, with a bouquet of flowers at the latter’s residence violates the model code of conduct and is also a clear indication of mala fide intention of seeking favour.”

In the Telangana assembly elections, the Congress seems to be reaching near the magic figure in counting trends as the results unfolded on Sunday (3rd December). In the 119-seat assembly, Congress needs 60 MLAs to secure a clear majority. As the number of seats which once touched 70 in the initial trends is declining towards 60, the Congress is now worried about its MLAs switching sides in the only state it is winning.

The preparations for resort politics are in full swing by the Congress party in Telangana. Buses are brought to the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad and Karnataka Congress leader and resort management expert DK Shivakumar is seen headling the operations. The Congress and alliance are leading on 63 seats while KC Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samiti is leading on 40 seats. BJP earlier had just one MLA in the assembly. It is now leading on 9 seats in the state.

Congress has stationed buses at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad, where DK Shivakumar is also present. Reports suggest that in the event of the Congress falling short of the crucial majority, these buses could potentially be utilised to transfer MLAs to Karnataka.

When asked if the party MLAs would be sent to Bengaluru by buses parked outside Taj Krishna in Hyderabad, Congress leader and Karnataka minister Rahim Khan said, “If such a situation comes, the party high command will decide.”

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President Kiran Kumar Chamala said, “You all know KCR’s working style. Illegal buying and selling is their main agenda. So we have taken some steps. But today, after seeing the results, trends and everything, there is no need for such activity because at least we will have more than 80 seats. Everything’s fine. We are very happy today.”

According to reports, Congress has entrusted DK Shivakumar with the task of tightening the party fencing to prevent any possible attempt of horse-trading by rival BRS in the Telangana elections. Shivakumar and the party’s Karnataka state unit have been asked to keep at least two to three resorts or hotels ready in the Kannada state to accommodate Congress MLAs. Along with this, DK Shivakumar has also been directed to arrange some additional hotels, so that MLAs of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh can also be accommodated there if needed.

Resort politics is an old technique frequently used by Congress to save power in various states. The Congress has also used resort politics to keep its MLAs during different Rajya Sabha elections and State Legislative Council elections. This is usually done by Congress to avoid cross-voting by its elected MLAs.

As the ‘lotus’ is set to bloom once again in Madhya Pradesh with BJP heading towards a spectacular win, the opposition party leaders have started taking jibes at each other. In this line, Samajwadi Party leader Manoj Singh Kaka on Sunday said that it is because Congress leader Kamalnath had disrespected Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav by calling him “Akhilesh Vakhilesh” that the party lost against the BJP.

Taking to X, Manoj Singh Kaka shared the video of Congress leader Kamalnath making allegedly disrespectful remarks about Akhilesh Yadav and wrote “Jab naash manuj par chhata hai pehle vivek mar jata hai,” which means that when destruction falls upon man, wisdom is the first to die.

In a video published by UP Tak the Samajwadi Party leader reiterated the couplets taken from “Krishna Ki Chetavani poem written by legendary poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’. “Arrogance was on top of Kamalnath ji’s head when he used derogatory words for Akhilesh Yadav ji. As Ramdhari Singh Dinkar ji has written…it is due his indecent statement against Akhilesh ji that Congress has lost. And in most places, this is what has happened because the way Congress insulted a Dalit, and made someone else state president.”

“Congress’s senior leaders insulted a leader [Akhilesh Yadav] who is fighting for the Dalits, tribals and backward classes and has troubled the BJP many times. Congress needs to understand that whenever they will insult Dalits, backwards, and regional party leaders, the party will have to face defeat,” Kaka continued.

It is worth recalling that in October this year, Akhilesh Yadav had accused Congress of betraying him as Congress refused to give tickets for six seats as demanded by Yadav. When asked by the media about this, Kamalnath said, “Arey chhodiye Akhilesh Vakhilesh..”

Notably, the Bhartiya Janata Party is currently leading on 166 seats, while Congress is trailing with 63 seats in MP. It is interesting to note that the Congress party has called a meeting of the INDIA bloc on December 6 as the party is likely to lose in Chhatisgarh, and Rajasthan in addition to Madhya Pradesh.

On 3rd December, the results of four state assembly elections were announced. In a remarkable comeback, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Goshmahal, Hyderabad, T Raja Singh, has emerged victorious in the Telangana Assembly Elections. The voting for Telangana took place on 30th November. Notably, T Raja Singh’s triumph came weeks after BJP revoked the suspension that was imposed last year over Raja Singh’s statement about Prophet Mohammed. In a post on X, T Raja Singh wrote, “Jai Shri Ram. Jai Bhajpa Vijay Bhajpa” in Hindi.

When Singh’s suspension was revoked, he thanked the voters and BJP leadership for their support. By 5 PM, T Raja Singh received over 80,000 votes against Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s Nand Kishore Vyas, who received 58,000+ votes. In the 2018 assembly elections, Singh received 61,854 votes, while BRS’s Prem Singh Rathore received 44,120 votes.

The election results signal a significant political turnaround for the firebrand Hindu leader of BJP. In the last year, Singh faced challenges on multiple fronts, as he was suspended from the party in August 2022 over an alleged statement on Prophet Mohammed. The Central Disciplinary Committee of BJP had cited a breach of discipline, as outlined in Rule XXV 10(a) of the party’s constitution.

Despite the legal challenges, including an arrest for the said comments, his suspension was lifted just hours before candidates for the Telangana Assembly Elections were announced. His return to the fold paved the way for hisvictory in the Assembly Elections on the Goshmahal seat.
