Raghuram Rajan has become a politician, doing shadow-boxing on someone’s behalf: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw slammed the former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan and referred to him as a politician who is “doing shadow-boxing on somebody’s behalf.” Vaishnaw’s comment was in response to a question on the latter’s charge that India is just assembling mobile phones under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) plan and not manufacturing them.

The Union Minister said, “When good economists become politicians, they lose their economic sense. Raghuram Rajan has become a politician. Now, he should come out in the open, fight elections, conduct elections and participate in political activities. Doing shadow-boxing is not good. He is trying to do shadow-boxing on behalf of somebody else.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw also shared that the country is set to add more than 30% value to its electronics production sector over the next two years. Furthermore, he also added that the three businesses would soon produce crucial components for mobile phones for the entire world.

The minister stressed that each country that has begun producing electronics has followed the same process of bringing Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) components, Semi Knocked-Down (SKD), and integrating the final product. The development of various components takes place first after which systems are produced.

He shared that the current global supply chain is so complicated that no country can assert to have a value addition of more than 40%. He maintained that the maximum value addition that any country can claim for its electronics industry is 40%, and India is expected to achieve a value addition of 30% or more in less than two years.

Talking about the former RBI Governor, the minister said, “So, this kind of shadow-boxing Raghuram Rajan is doing is not a fair thing. He is a very well-accomplished economist. I request him to stay as an economist or turn into a politician.”

In a recent interview, Raghuram Rajan criticised Government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and said it is mostly about assembly and not deep manufacturing.

The PLI scheme for mobile phones was notified on April 1, 2020. The scheme extends an incentive of 4 to 6 per cent on incremental sales (over the base year) of mobile phones that are manufactured in India to eligible companies, for a period of five years.

J&K Bank’s chief manager Sajad Ahmad Bazaz sacked over ISI connections, was planted to further separatist agenda

On Saturday, August 20, the Jammu and Kashmir Bank sacked its chief manager Sajad Ahmad Bazaz following an investigation by the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Investigation Department (CID) which found that Bazaz was a deep asset of Pakistan’s ISI. It was found that Sajad Ahmad was planted in the J&K Bank to propagate the agenda of the terrorist-separatist networks through articles in a leading regional daily at the behest of the ISI.

“Whereas the undersigned is satisfied under Rule/Provision 12.29 in OSM that in the interest of the security of the state, it is not expedient to hold an enquiry in the case of Sajad Ahmad Bazaz, Chief Manager, Code no. 4484. Accordingly, I hereby dismiss Mr Sajad Ahmad Bazaz, Chief Manager, Code no. 4484 from service, with immediate effect,” the order issued by J&K Bank’s Managing Director reads.

Reportedly, ISI planted Sajad Ahmad Bazaz in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank back in 1990 through the owner and editor of Greater Kashmir Fayaz Kaloo. Bazaz joined J&K Bank in 1990 as a cashier-cum-clerk and was later promoted to head of internal communication in 2004. Reportedly, a special post of editor equivalent to a gazetted officer was created for him.

Illegally working at Greater Kashmir, Bazaz wrote articles spreading Pakistani propaganda

Bazaz even when employed at Jammu and Kashmir Bank, worked illegally as a correspondent-cum-columnist for Greater Kashmir.

Citing J&K CID sources, several media outlets reported that most of Bazaz’s articles supported and glorified the terrorist-secessionist campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. Published in Greater Kashmir’s weekly columns ‘Off The Record’ and ‘What’s Up’, Bazaz’s opinion pieces, some subtle, while others thin-veiled, furthered the Pakistani approach of seeking UN intervention, tripartite talks, and alleged human rights violations.

It has been said that Sajad Bazaz was using different pen names for his articles in the newspaper to conceal his real identity. While Bazaz initially signed as ‘Sajjad Ahmad’ he modified his name by adding another ‘J’ and dropping his surname. Later, the now-sacked J&K Bank chief manager wrote articles under the byline ‘Sajjad Bazaz’.

Mysterious rise of Pakistani deep asset in J&K Bank from a clerk to gazetted officer

During the investigations, it was reportedly found that eligibility prerequisites of the post were tailored to bring Bazaz in as applications were invited from the cadre of cashier-cum-clerks to apply for the newly created post of editor. Moreover, Bazaz was given three promotions despite not having cleared the Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) exam to date.

Additionally, the requirement for a written test was dropped. Sajad was also given an unfair advantage by having the catchment area limited to the cashier/clerk cadre. The investigators stated that the selection of Bazaz was made despite the fact that “he was rabidly against the Indian state and an open secessionist” by the interview panel, which included the then-chairman of the bank MY Khan, director Haseeb Drabu, chief general manager PZ Lateef, and deputy general manager MA Shah.

Bazaz funded select local newspapers using J&K Bank’s money

The J&K CID said that Bazaz misused his position as an “Editor” for funding specific newspapers and magazines through advertisement money drawn from the coffers of J&K Bank. The investigators found that Greater Kashmir received disproportionately high and favourable advertisement allotments than other news outlets between the years 2015 to 2023. Notably, in the year 2012, there was a sudden surge in pro-Pakistani newspapers and magazines other than Greater Kashmir. This came as Bazaz was instructed by the Pakistani agencies to assist in the setting up of media platforms other than Greater Kashmir to propagate and amplify the Pakistani and Jihadi narrative in an even more vitriolic manner.

It has been found that Sajad Ahmad Bazaz owned and operated around 68 accounts in the J&K Bank. The Pakistani deep state asset was also in touch with terrorist Shabir Hussain Buch, a known aide of Mushtaq Latram, chief of the Al-Umar Islamic terror outfit as well as a close associate of terrorist Masood Azhar, the Jaish e Muhammad chief.

Congress suspends Sunil Jakhar’s nephew, accuses him of anti-party activities including hoisting BJP flag at his house

The Congress Party suspended its Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Punjab from Abohar, Sandeep Jakhar, for indulging in anti-party activities. Sandeep Jakhar is the nephew of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Punjab state President Sunil Jakhar. Notably, Sunil Jakhar was earlier a Congress leader. In May 2022, Sunil Jakhar joined BJP.

All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary Tariq Anwar issued the suspension letter of Sandeep Jakhar. In the letter, it was mentioned that the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, complained about Sandeep that he was indulging in anti-party activities.

Sandeep was accused of not participating in Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY). For those unaware, Bharat Jodo Yatra was a Congress program to “rediscover” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who “walked” around 4,000 KMs from Kanyakumari to Kashmir over four months.

The second accusation made against Sandeep was that the common accommodation where he lived had a BJP flag hoisted atop. In the third accusation, Congress claimed Sandeep spoke against Congress Party and its Punjab President Warring. In the fourth and last accusation, they accused Sandeep of “openly” defending Sunil Jakhar.

Interestingly, in the suspension letter, AICC mentioned the district in Sandeep’s address as Ferozepur. Village Panjkosi is not in district Ferozpur but in district Fazilka which was carved out of Ferozepur in 2011.

Speaking to ANI, Sandeep said, “Party did what they wanted to do. My focus is on my work. I am doing my work. My stand has been clear since day one when Sunil Ji left Congress. My stand is I am with Sunil Ji. In the last year, whatever I did, I did it openly. I did not hide my intentions. The people of Abohar gave me responsibility, and I am fulfilling my duty towards them by raising their voices. I will continue my work in the same manner in the future.”

In a recent tweet, Sandeep invoked Robert Frost’s famous poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ and said, “The woods are lovely, dark & deep, but I have promises to keep, & miles to go before I sleep. Thank you, Congress Party, & grateful to most of my colleagues, who always gave me good advice & the respect is mutual.”

Since Sunil Jakhar joined BJP, the Congress party often attacked him on social media. Sandeep was seen locking horns with Congress leaders, including Warring, to defend Sunil. For example, in the first week of June 2023, Warring challenged Jakhar to stand up for protesting wrestlers against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He wrote, “Stand up for the female wrestlers who brought glory to our county with the same vigour with which you vent out your frustration against us. This will do you more good,” and “hoped” Jakhar was not feeling suffocated in BJP.

Quoting Warring, Sandeep shared a media interview with Sunil Jakhar, where he said the matter could have been handled much better.

Pakistan: Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrested from his Islamabad residence

On Saturday (19 August), PTI Vice Chairman and Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested from his Islamabad residence, his party PTI said. The party termed his arrest as an illegal act and claimed that a large consignment of Police have taken him to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) headquarters.

Notably, the FIA is currently interrogating Former Pakistan PM and PTI Chief Imran Khan who is behind bars. The Federal agency is grilling Khan in connection with a diplomatic cable that reportedly went missing from his custody. Apparently, it was the same cable that he presented for a long time as evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” against him. On the basis of this purported cable, Khan had claimed that the US wanted to oust him from Prime Minister’s office and install a puppet regime.

Condemning the arrest Ayub said, “Had hoped that the reign of lawlessness would have ended after the exit of the fascist PDM government, but it appears that this caretaker government wants to break the records of their predecessor fascist government.”

Following the development, PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub claimed that Qureshi was taken into custody after he had addressed a consequential press conference. He added that during the PC, Qureshi confirmed that he had a meeting with foreign ambassadors recently.

PTI leader Farrukh Habib too claimed that Qureshi was arrested for “expressing the party’s position in a press conference and for attending a tea of foreign ambassadors recently”. Without explicitly mentioning the Army, he targeted the Pakistani military for muzzling dissenting voices and abolishing the Constitution of Pakistan.

Similarly, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finance minister Taimur Jhagra too condemned his arrest. He argued that this can’t be a coincidence that first some rumours were deliberately circulated in the media claiming that the PTI has suffered a vertical split. But when Qureshi and other party leaders negated it strongly, the authorities arrested Qureshi after he addressed a press conference earlier in the day. He categorically asserted that the law should not be made a joke.

Chronological development of the day: Press Conference followed by his arrest

Earlier, Qureshi addressed a press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad alongside other PTI leaders. In the PC, Qureshi confirmed that he had a breakfast meeting with the Australian high commissioner in Islamabad and added that other important ambassadors were also present in the meeting.

Addressing the media, Qureshi stated that the PTI presented its stance on the current political situation to the ambassadors present there and raised security concerns about the current situation.

However, he refuted the reports that the release of PTI Chief Imran Khan was discussed in the meeting. Going ahead, he also dismissed media reports of a further split within the residue of PTI, once the ruling party in Pakistan.

Earlier, Geo News reported that after Imran Khan’s arrest on 5 August in the Toshakhana case, PTI’s core committee saw another split as well as infighting. The report added that both Vice Chairman Qureshi and Secretary General Ayub allegedly attempted to succeed Imran as the party chief.

However, Qureshi and the entire PTI leadership asserted that Imran Khan was our chairman, he is and will remain, everyone agrees on his character, and everyone is connected with his vision. They maintained that there is no leadership conflict in the party.

Regarding infighting and power struggle for PTI’s top leadership, Qureshi said, “Such news [of further rifts] is concocted, a plan of disinformation and part of a scheme to create confusion in the party rank and file and to affect their minds. There is no truth to this and it will break down in due time.”

Qureshi added that the claim being made about him and Ayub trying to take over the party had “no truth to it”. According to him, Ayub had immediately responded to the allegation with a post on X, and negated reports that wanted to create confusion.

He too asserted that Imran was still the chairman and the core committee had passed a resolution affirming the same.

The eventful day ended with a press conference in which the entire PTI leadership seemed to be on the same page, which seemingly rattled the army. Ever since, Former Pakistan PM Khan decided to lock horns with the Military establishment, the Army had been taking all coercive steps to dismantle the organisational structure and cadre of PTI and jail its leadership. The arrest of Qureshi is seen as a part of its massive crackdown on PTI disguised in the pretext of investigation.

AAP attempts to absolve its leader Javed Ahmed from Nuh violence case & questions police FIR, locals say has a history of instigating riots in Sohna

An FIR filed in the brutal killing of Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Kumar during the Islamist violence that convulsed Haryana on July 31, following an attack on a Hindu precession in the Nuh district, named Aam Aadmi Party leader (AAP) Javed Ahmed as the prime accused. Despite this, the AAP has stepped in to defend its leader, just as it did during the 2020 anti-Hindu riots in Delhi when it worked tirelessly to absolve its councillor Tahir Hussain of the charges against him.

OpIndia had earlier reported how ex-AAP councillor Tahir Hussain confessed in a disclosure statement that he chose his house as a launchpad for attacks on Hindus and led a mob of armed rioters. At that time, several Aam Aadmi Party leaders like Amanatullah Khan and Sanjay Singh initially tried to defend the tainted AAP leader Tahir Hussain by asserting that he is innocent.

Now, history seems to be repeating itself as the AAP has, in its attempt to defend Javed Ahmed, rejected the authenticity of the FIR filed against him.

Javed Ahmed is the State coordinator of the Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana. An FIR has been registered against him in connection with the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Pradeep Kumar in Sohna on July 31, 2023. However, Javed Ahmed claimed that he was 100 kilometres away from there at the time of the incident, hence the question of his involvement in the incident does not arise.

It may be recalled that Tahir Hussain had himself tweeted a plea for help during the riots that he was engineering. He had also made a video to paint an innocent picture of himself. He had claimed that he himself had made several calls to the PCR and thus, was a victim of violence himself. Several analysts had, however, called his video fake and heavily edited.

Now, coming back to the Nuh violence that was unleashed by Islamists on July 31, 2023, during the ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra,’ which was organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Islamists surrounded the ancient Shiva temple at Nalhar creating a hostage-like situation with as many as 2000-2500 Hindus, including women and children, trapped inside. The rioters kept spraying bullets from the hills surrounding the temple on three sides.

The situation was such that the frenzied Muslim mob even entered the hospital and beat up the patients. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij also termed the Nuh violence a pre-planned attack. However, the question still at hand is where did the mob get such sophisticated weapons.

OpIndia’s sting operation on Javed Ahmed, know what locals said

OpIndia team while reporting from the ground, conducted a sting operation on Javed Ahmed and spoke to locals in Nuh. The locals spoke about Javed’s political clout and power and admitted to being petrified of him. One of the local residents said that though Javed Ahmed is 50 years old, he didn’t look his age because he works out regularly. Speaking about Javed Ahmed’s political affiliations, the man said that when Congress was at the helm in Haryana, he was closely associated with someone who was very close to Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to OpIndia, these locals said that in the entire Sohna district of Haryana, no one even dares to speak a word against Javed Ahmed, such is the terror of the Aam Admi Party leader. He also spoke about Javed Ahmed’s involvement in the Nikita Tomar murder case, adding that the AAP leader is the uncle of Tauseef alias Sajeed, who was caught on camera shooting Nikita Tomar.

It may be recalled that in October 2020, a 21-year-old student named Nikita Tomar was shot dead in full public view by two men outside the Aggarwal College in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The brutal murder made national headlines after CCTV footage of the murder emerged.

As the investigation into the case progressed, details of Tauseef’s political connections came to the fore.

OpIndia had then, in one of its reports on Nikita Tomar’s murder case detailed how Tauseef’s uncle Javed Ahmed had out rightly denied the allegations of Love Jihad and said that there was no angle of religious conversion in the matter. That time, Javed Ahmed had contested the election from Sohna on Bahujan Samaj Party’s ticket.

Speaking further about Javed Ahmed’s past criminal records and his modus operandi, the locals told OpIndia that Javed Ahmed was involved in a different, comparable riot that took place a few years back. They recalled how then too, rioters led by Javed Ahmed used the same Aravalli Hills to pelt stones and fire guns which they used during the recent Nuh unrest as well.

The local resident described how several dumpers use to start ply in the area just before each such incident happened. They lamented that Javed Ahmed was being able to escape police investigation and arrest due to his proximity with the Congress party. He said that Chaudhary Aftab Ahmed is Javed Ahmed’s uncle and said that the two were in direct touch with the Congress high command in Delhi.

The Nuh resident further informed our team how in the year 2009-10, when Congress was at the helm in Haryana, a master plan was prepared to develop the tehsil. During those days, illegal mining syndicates were operating very actively in Nuh. DSP Surendra Singh, who had gone to investigate illegal mining in Nuh, was brutally killed in July 2022, he said, adding that he was run over by a truck.

He further accused Javed Ahmed was being actively involved in this illegal mining scam, but only because of his political connections, his name has never emerged as an accused nor has he been caught, the local youth told OpIndia.

Further explaining how well-connected the AAP leader is, the local added that Javed Ahmed constantly assists local goons and criminals to evade arrests. If someone wishes to falsely accuse their rivals, they approach Javed Ahmed, who then assigns well-trained, gorgeous girls to lure them into honeytraps and artfully accuse them of being involved in the crimes.

Asserting that there has always been an outside MLA in Sohna, the local resident stated that although Gujjars run for office locally, they do not receive votes. Speaking about a Gujjar leader named Rohtas, he said that although Rohtas lives in the village of Rithos and has property worth Rs 350 crore, he chooses not to run for office.

He also acknowledged that the local Hindus in the Nuh neighbourhood are not united.

It may be recalled here that Javed Ahmed, who was booked for the brutal murder of a Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Kumar, had denied his involvement in the crime by claiming that he was “100 km away” from the scene of the incident.

Hinting that the AAP leader had lied when he denied his presence during the Nuh violence, the local resident told us that Javed Ahmed claimed that he was in Punhana at the time when Islamists unleashed violence in Nuh, however, it would have taken him no longer than 20 to 25 minutes to travel via the Mumbai Expressway from the toll booth, from where his video emerged, to the scene of the incident, the local youth said.

Lamenting how if any other common man was involved in the violence instead of the AAP leader, he would have not only been arrested but also tortured, another local youth said that locals are confident that Javed Ahmed had a hand in the recent Nuh violence but they aren’t saying it out loud.

He added that he was certain that Javed Ahmed will run for the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ in the 2024 assembly elections and win because the party exclusively offers tickets to such individuals.

Another local person who spoke to us said that he believes that the Nuh violence was devised to consolidate the scattered Muslim votes since until now Javed Ahmed has been in the second-thrid position and he wanted to cement his position as the front-runner for the upcoming elections.

The local youth then recalled a murder that had taken place 8–10 years earlier that included Javed Ahmed. Some AAP leaders, according to him, had travelled from Delhi to Sohna. At that time, a boy from the Gujjar community was killed near Child Point in Sohna, and Javed Ahmed was implicated and sent to jail. Later, when he was released, the AAP leaders welcomed him and carried him like a celebrity.

Speaking about the AAP leader’s previous antecedents, the locals wondered where the Islamists managed to procure the sophisticated weapons and how did they manage to collect the large quantities of stones on rooftops. They said that the Islamists shot from a distance of 100 to 200 metres, which certainly cannot be attained by using local arms and ammunition.

The local resident said that they are still apprehensive about venturing into the area where the violence happened, as they fear that it could happen again. Further describing it as a huge catastrophe, he said that along with the loss of life and property, businesses also suffered greatly. Calling it a well-planned conspiracy, he said that the local Islamists had sought the assistance of people from outside. He added that as many as 5000-7000 Rohingya Muslims had participated in the violence.

The local youth reiterated that Javed Ahmed’s boys were involved in the violence, adding that let alone pelting stones, people cannot even think of crossing the road in Nuh, Sohna and other adjoining areas without the AAP leader’s consent.

Locals asserted that a group led by Mamman Khan, Aftab Ahmed, and Javed Ahmed perpetrated these crimes as a sign of their continuous supremacy and to underscore it.

They added that recently locals came to know that the AAP leader had set up an entire colony in his own name. ‘Javed Colony’, as it is named, houses mostly criminals and goons, they said adding, that this unauthorized colony has been built illegally on government land.

Javed Ahmed is involved in all the incidents of violence that occur in Sohna: Locals tell OpIndia

While we were roaming around in the area we also interviewed a few autorickshaw drivers who also in unison said that they were absolutely sure that Javed Ahmed was involved in the Nuh violence because the AAP leader has always been involved in every act of violence that has transpired in Haryana’s Sohna district. They asserted that even though Javed’s name is being withheld owing to his political clout and influence, they know for sure that he had orchestrated the incident since whenever there is unrest in Sohna, Javed’s name always ranks first.

Meanwhile, a local resident of the Lakhwa village also reiterated the allegations levelled at the AAP leader by several other locals we spoke to. He too said that Javed Ahmed had set up a colony named ‘Javed Colony’. There are small houses and several brothels in the colony from where all the conspiracies are hatched.

Recalling the murder of a young boy in his colony two-three years ago, the local said that at that time the incident flared up. Stones were pelted. Seeing the rage in locals, there were rumours that Javed Ahmed would leave Sohna and go elsewhere but that did not happen. He added that Javed Ahmed was a very dangerous person for whom instigating riots and violence is no big deal.

It may be recalled that after an FIR was filed against AAP’s Javed Ahmed for the murder of a Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Kumar, he denied his involvement in the crime. Speaking to news agency PTI, he said he has CCTV footage to back his claim. “I was 100 km away from Nuh, and the incident happened three hours after I left. I have the CCTV footage of the toll plaza I crossed. Allegations against me are to malign me and my party, it is political propaganda,” Ahmed told the news agency.

In defence of AAP leader Javed Ahmed, the party fielded many of its leaders. AAP’s Senior Vice President Anurag Dhanda while giving clarification on the FIR lodged against Javed Ahmed, hit back at BJP.

He said, “The people of Haryana have started rejecting the BJP outright. That’s why BJP now wants to create a conspiracy and is working to divide society. Today the whole country knows who instigates riots and after that, they work to implicate other party leaders by filing false FIRs.”

Javed Ahmed’s hand in Pradeep Kumar’s murder

On August 4, OpIndia accessed the FIR filed in the brutal killing of Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Kumar. Kumar was the third Hindu who fell prey to Islamist violence that convulsed Haryana on July 31 following an attack on a Hindu precession in the Nuh district.

The FIR was filed by Pawan Kumar, another Bajrang Dal activist who was accompanying Pradeep Kumar when he was attacked and killed. Pawan Kumar, in his complaint named one Javed Ahmed as the prime accused.

AAP leader Javed Ahmed led the Islamist mob which killed Pradeep Kumar during Nuh violence: What does the FIR say

Notably, the FIR filed in the Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Kumar’s murder case, whom Islamists ruthlessly killed him on the intervening night of July 31 (Monday) and August 1 (Tuesday), while he was returning from the police station during the Nuh violence, the complainant, Pawan Kumar, stated that the mob had launched the vicious attack on Pradeep Kumar and other Bajrang Dal members accompanying him, on Javed Ahmed’s orders.

Pawan Kumar further stated that Javed Ahmed, who was leading the mob shouted- “Kill them all, I will take care of the consequences.”

“Responding to the clarion call made by Javed Ahmed, 20-25 Islamists armed with iron rods, stones, guns and other weapons rushed towards us and started thrashing us,” he added in the FIR.

Since the FIR only mentioned the name of the accused, OpIndia, in its effort to try and get some more information about him, spoke to the complainant Pawan Kumar.

Pawan Kumar confirmed to OpIndia that Javed Ahmed in no other than the Aam Aadmi Party leader from the Sohna constituency in Haryana. He said that he was the one who had orchestrated the crowd and instigated them to launch a murderous attack on Pradeep Kumar and other Bajrang Dal activists.

Pawan Kumar continued, “The Islamist mob responded to his clarion call and charged at us and other defenceless Hindus present there while shouting ‘Allah hu Abar’ and ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.”

When we asked Pawan Kumar if he was certain that the AAP leader was leading the Islamists, he responded in the affirmative. He claimed that he recognises him very well since he has often seen him and his family members moving around through the lanes of Haryana’s Sohna district.

As many as six people have been killed in the violence which gripped Haryana’s Nuh on July 31. The Haryana Police has arrested 116 people involved in the riots which spilt over into Palwal, Faridabad and Gurugram after stones were pelted by an Islamic mob on a Yatra by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

The consolidated list of 7 FIRs revealing how rioters targeted police during Nuh violence can be read here. OpIndia’s complete coverage of the Mewat Shobha Yatra Attack can be checked here.

Minority Affairs Ministry busts massive minority scholarship scam, over 50% institutions fake, Madrasas and tribal schools under the lens, CBI probe ordered

The Minority Affairs Ministry, through an internal investigation, busted one of the biggest minority scholarship scams in India. The Ministry’s internal enquiry revealed that around 830 institutions involved in the process were involved in deep-rooted corruption and embezzled Rs 144.83 crore in the past 5 years. The Ministry also found out that around 53 percent of beneficiaries of minority scholarships in the country were fake.

Following the development, Union Minister Smriti Irani promptly ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into this matter.

According to a report in India Today, the Minority Affairs Ministry officially lodged its complaint in the matter on the 10th of July. In its internal investigation, the Ministry probed various institutions in 100 districts across 34 states. Reportedly, around 1572 institutions were probed for any kind of wrongdoings. Out of them, around 830 institutions were found to be allegedly involved in fraudulent activities. These data were received from 21 out of 34 states/UTs, the institutions in the remaining states/UTs are still under investigation.

To avoid the destruction of evidence, the authorities have frozen all the accounts linked with these 830 institutions currently in the dock.

Notably, the scholarship program under the Minority Ministry covers around 1,80,000 institutions. Launched in 2007-08, the initiative provides scholarships to students from class 1 to higher education.

During Ministry’s internal investigation, it was found that these fake beneficiaries were claiming the scholarships meant for minority students every year.

Following approval from Union Minister Smriti Irani, the CBI will investigate the nodal officers of these institutions who issued approval reports, the district nodal officers responsible for verifying the fraudulent cases, and the manner in which various states allowed this scam to continue for multiple years.

It is alleged that district nodal officers and institutions were verifying scholarships without conducting thorough on-ground scrutiny.

Additionally, the Union Ministry has also raised objections on several banks that allegedly allowed the opening of fake accounts for these fraudulent beneficiaries. All of this reportedly happened with the help of fake Aadhar cards and KYC documents.

As per media reports, these institutions were either non-existent or non-operational yet they managed to get registered on both the National Scholarship Portal and the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) and this will be thoroughly probed by the central agency on how all this was allowed to happen and who are responsible for this scam.

On a state-wise analysis, the data becomes scarier as in many states more than half of the registered institutions were found to be fake or non-existent – for example, in Chhattisgarh (100%), Rajasthan (77.34%), Assam (68%), Karnataka (64%), UP (44%), and West Bengal (39%).

India Today further reported that in Malappuram, Kerala, one bank branch disbursed 66,000 scholarships. These were higher than the registered number of minority students eligible for scholarships.

Similarly, in Anantnag, Jammu, and Kashmir, a college received 7,000 scholarships despite having 5,000 registered students. The Ministry’s investigation also found that one phone number of a parent was associated with 22 children, interestingly all of them were supposedly in class IX. In another case, an institution received hostel scholarships for every student despite the absence of a hostel.

Going further, in Assam, a bank branch allegedly had 66,000 beneficiaries. When the verification team attempted to verify student details they were allegedly threatened by the Madrasa. While, in Punjab, despite being enrolled not in schools, minority students received scholarships through this illicit nexus.

Superstar Rajinikanth seeks blessings of UP CM Yogi Adityanath by touching his feet, triggers a meltdown for leftist social media users

Actor Rajnikanth on Saturday, August 19, arrived at the residence of Yogi Adityanath to meet the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. The legendary actor met the UP CM and greeted him by touching his feet, a video of which quickly went viral on the internet.

The actor arrived in the city on Friday night for the screening of his film ‘Jailer’, which was attended by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

No sooner did the video of Rajinikanth bowing down to Yogi Adityanath started doing the rounds on social media than several leftwing supporters had a meltdown over one of the most famous superstars paying obeisance to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

Rajinikanth touching feet of Yogi Adityanath triggers meltdown for leftwing supporters

“Appalled by the spineless, hypocritical coward Rajini for falling at the feet of a hate monger. A new low!” tweeted an X user.

Another X (formerly Twitter) user could not bring herself to terms with the fact that Rajinikanth bowed in deferential respect to Uttar Pradesh CM.

Many social media users began attacking Rajinikanth for his gesture toward Yogi Adityanath.

In the meantime, Rajinikanth conveyed his enthusiasm regarding the overwhelmingly positive reception his film has received from the audience, as well as its remarkable success. “… It feels like a divine blessing that the movie is achieving such success,” he shared with ANI.

Previously, Rajinikanth had been in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where he also embarked on a visit to the renowned Chhinnamasta Temple within the state on Friday, engaging in prayers. Rajasthan: Moin Khan pretends to be Monu, traps and rapes two minor Hindu girls in Jaipur, lets his friends rape one of them against money

A shocking instance of love jihad has come to light from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Here, a man named Moin Khan, a resident of Jalupura entrapped a young woman and two minor girls of age 14 and 17 respectively. He kept them hostage and raped them. He also took money from his friends who proceeded to sexually assault the 14-year-old. She was held captive by him for around a month.

The accused has been arrested and his minor friends who are below the age of 18 have been apprehended and sent to the child reform home. He introduced himself as Monu to both of the victims. Therefore, the police are also looking into the matter from the perspective of love jihad.

The 17-year-old girl registered a police complaint against him at Sadar police station in Jaipur. She informed the police that she had left the house after an altercation with her mother. Meanwhile, Moin Khan met her in the Sindhi Camp area and told her that his name was Monu.

He lured her to a hotel under the pretence of help and raped her there. She somehow managed to escape from him the following day and made it home where she narrated the entire ordeal to her mother. Afterwards, her mother took her to the Sadar police station to file a rape case.

The girl revealed to the authorities that another minor was taken hostage in a room in the same hotel where she was subjected to rape. She too was sexually violated by Moin Khan and his accomplices. The police reached the establishment located in Jalupura based on this information and captured Khan.

The police released the 14-year-old girl who was trapped there. She then disclosed that her elder sister had brought her to Jaipur about a month ago and left her with the perpetrator. She stated that her sibling was already familiar with him.

The adolescent said that her parents got divorced when she was 3-year-old. She lived with her mother while her sister moved in with her father. She went to stay with him some time ago, but he used to get drunk and beat both girls.

Her sister took her to Jaipur as a result and left her with the culprit. He sexually assaulted and imprisoned her in a hotel room just two days after her elder sister’s return. She unveiled that he forbade her from leaving the room as well as thrashed her.

One day he had two of his friends with him and after collecting about Rs 2500 from them, he handed her over to them. Furthermore, she was taken by both of them to a cafe in Lal Kothi where she was gang raped. They warned her that there would be negative repercussions if she notified anybody about the horrific episode.

According to the police, apart from these two minor girls, Moin Khan’s relationship with a young woman has also come to the fore. They are investigating the possibility that he made multiple more victims similar to the two minors.

Madras HC stays criminal case against an author over the recital of a poem describing Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Lakshman as manual scavengers

The Madras High Court recently stayed legal actions taken against Poet and Assistant Director P Vigneshwaran, also known as Viduthalai Sigappi, for his recital of a poem that portrays Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Lakshman as manual scavengers.

The accusation against Vigneshwaran pertains to an incident on April 30, 2023, during which he recited a poem at an event. In the poem, he portrayed Lord Ram, Hanuman, and Lakshman as manual scavengers. The poem further depicted Goddess Sita sealing a manhole while the others worked inside, and subsequently departing for Sri Lanka, leaving behind a note urging readers not to unseal the manhole.

Alleging that the poem had the potential to hurt the religious sentiments of a significant section of Hindus and constituted a derogatory act against Hinduism, a legal case was filed following a complaint by Suresh Parthasarathy, a prominent figure in the Bharath Hindu Munnani. The charges were raised under Sections 153, 153(1)(a), 295A, 505(1), and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

In an attempt to stop the legal proceedings against him, Vigneshwaran asserted that his motive was not to cause harm to any individual or religious belief. Rather, the aim was to highlight the challenging circumstances faced by manual scavengers and women, he claimed. He further added that the poem had been presented at a literary gathering organised by a movement dedicated to combatting caste-based discrimination. Thus, he argued that the poem’s intent needed to be interpreted in light of this context.

Furthermore, he contended that expressing the struggles endured by those coerced into manual scavenging through a literary composition should not be construed as an offence. He maintained that this act was indeed safeguarded by the constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in Article 19(1)(a).

In his affidavit, Vigneshwaran stated that even if the claims made in the complaint were to be considered at face value and wholly accepted, they would not amount to an offence. He argued that the legal system in India has evolved a forward-looking legal doctrine aimed at safeguarding artistic freedom of expression. Drawing upon several rulings by the Supreme Court, he further emphasised that the First Information Report (FIR) should be dismissed as it constituted an improper exploitation of the legal process.

Vigneshwaran further highlighted that the fundamental prerequisites necessary for invoking Sections 153, 153A, and 295A of the Indian Penal Code were not present in the present circumstances. He clarified that although the poem he recited did feature characters named after Hindu deities or mythical beings, it abstained from containing any allusions to other faiths or any material that could potentially inflame conflicts or cultivate feelings of strife, enmity, or resentment among different religious groups.
