Hamas-linked Islamist group CAIR asks USA to stop using the term ‘terrorist watchlist’ because it comprises of mostly Muslim names

The Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), a US-based Islamist organisation with ties to the Islamic terrorist organisation Hamas, called on the US government on Tuesday to discontinue the use of the term “terrorist watchlist,” since it is made up “almost entirely” of Arab and Muslim names.

“This list confirms what we already knew: after 9/11, the FBI created a Muslim registry. If the FBI is allowed to keep this discriminatory, unjust registry, it’s only a matter of time before others are targeted as well,” the Islamist organisation with terror links wrote in a thread of tweets, accusing the Joe Biden administration of anti-Muslim bias.

“The FBI distributes this registry to tens of thousands of law enforcement agencies, hundreds of private companies, & 60+ foreign governments. We call on the Biden admin to end its dissemination. It has served no purpose other than to ruin the lives of innocent Muslims,” CAIR wrote in its subsequent tweet.

It also shared a link to its press release titled, “CAIR Urges FBI to Stop Distributing Secret Terror Watchlists After Leaks Show ‘Almost Entirely Lists of Arabic and Muslim Names’.

The demand came after a Swiss hacker, on January 20, Friday, reportedly gained access to copies of the No-Fly List and Selectee List. These two lists are subdivisions of the US security agency FBI’s terror watchlist and the Terrorist Screening Data Set. The list, which was from 2019, contained about 1.5 million entries.

The Islamist organisation, that obtained the list, claimed it featured primarily Muslim and Arab names and accused the FBI of deliberately targeting the Muslim community.

“Even a cursory review of the lists shows they are both almost entirely lists of Arabic and Muslim names. Children who were at most 10 years old at the time are on the No-Fly List. A then 7-year-old is on the Selectee list,” Justin Sadowsky, Cair’s trial attorney, said in a statement.

CAIR and its anti-India propaganda

Notably, CAIR identifies itself as a Muslim civil rights organisation in the United States that claims to protect ‘civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims’, The fact, however, is that CAIR is an Islamist group that has spoken against India and Hindus on several occasions. The organization has been vehemently pushing Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu propaganda in India.

Last year, CAIR released a report titled “Still Suspect: The Impact of Structural Islamophobia”, in which it said that there has been a rise in discrimination against Muslims living in the United States.

The CAIR, in its report, claimed that it had received 6,720 complaints nationwide last year involving a range of issues, including immigration, travel discrimination, law enforcement, government overreach, hate and bias incidents, custody rights, school incidents, and free speech incidents.

The CAIR claimed that government discrimination and bias continue to have a disproportionate effect on American Muslims and further demonstrate that our communities continue to be viewed with suspicion. The report also listed the impacts of severe structural and interpersonal Islamophobia in the United States.

Ironically, CAIR, which always complains about alleged Islamophobia in the United States, has been aggressively promoting Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu propaganda in India. We are aware of how CAIR had extended support for the extremely Hinduphobic ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva‘ conference.

Not only this, but in December last year, CAIR had reportedly taken offence at the display of the names of the LeT terrorists and scenes from the deadly 26/11 terror attack that was displayed on a mobile billboard truck in New Jersey. While calling the movement of the vehicle ‘deliberate and well co-ordinated’, CAIR criticised the broadcast of 26/11 footage as ‘messages of hate.’ This was despite the fact that the mobile billboard truck did not display anything contentious but the truth.

In January 2022, CAIR launched Hinduphobic propaganda based on a report by alleged journalist Rana Ayyub. In a press release, CAIR demanded the movie theatres not to release Sooryavanshi, a Hindi movie. In the press release, CAIR alleged the movie spreads “disgusting and dangerous” anti-Muslim propaganda inspired by the fascist Hindutva movement.”

The organization has also called for the release of 49-year-old Pakistani terrorist Aafia Siddiqui, who is currently serving 86 years in prison for attacking US Army and FBI personnel in Afghanistan.

The Islamic organisation and its link with Islamic terror outfit Hamas

It is noteworthy that CAIR has links with the Palestinian Islamic fundamentalist terror organisation Hamas. Hamas has a long history of violating human rights. Hamas is designated as a terrorist organisation by several countries including The European Union, the United States, Canada, Israel, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom etc.

A Chinese engineer, Ji Chaoqun, jailed for 8 years for spying in the US

0

In Chicago, an engineer, Ji Chaoqun, has been found guilty of spying for the Chinese government by compiling data on American engineers and scientists and was consequently given an eight-year prison sentence.

Ji Chaoqun, a Chinese national, was detained in 2018. He arrived in the US in 2013 to study electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Later, Ji Chaoqun joined the US Army Reserves.

The 31-year-old was found guilty in September of providing a materially false statement to the US Army and operating unlawfully as an agent of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS).

Ji was tasked, according to the Justice Department, with giving an intelligence officer biographical data about people who might be hired as Chinese spies. Chinese nationals who were employed as engineers and scientists in the US, some of them for American defence companies, were among the group.

According to a statement from the Justice Department, Ji’s snooping was a component of a Chinese intelligence operation to gain access to cutting-edge aeronautical and satellite technologies being developed by US corporations.

He joined the US Army Reserves in 2016, a year after graduating, as part of a programme that allows foreign nationals to be enlisted if their abilities are deemed “vital to the national interest.”

He lied on his application to the programme, saying he hadn’t spoken to a foreign government in the previous seven years. In a subsequent interview with a US Army officer, he allegedly omitted to disclose his connection to and interactions with Chinese intelligence agents, according to the Justice Department.

Ji met with an undercover US law enforcement agent who was impersonating as a member of China’s MSS on many occasions in 2018. He claimed during these meetings that he could visit and take pictures of “Roosevelt-class” aircraft carriers using his military identification. He also stated that he intended to apply for jobs at the CIA, FBI, or NASA after receiving his US citizenship and security clearance through the Army Reserves programme, according to testimony during the trial.

The Justice Department stated in the statement that Ji intended to work as a cybersecurity specialist at one of those organisations so he could gain access to databases, including those that included scientific information.

According to the statement, Ji was carrying out his duties under the supervision of Xu Yanjun, a deputy division director at the MMS’ Jiangsu province branch.

A professional intelligence officer named Xu was given a 20-year prison term last year for attempting to acquire trade secrets from multiple US aerospace and aviation industries. As a result of the FBI investigation, Xu also became the first Chinese spy to be extradited to the US for trial after he was apprehended in Belgium in 2018.

Zheng Xiaoqing, a former employee of General Electric, was sentenced to two years in prison earlier this month in the US for disclosing sensitive information to the Chinese government.

Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, stated in July that China intended to “ransack” the intellectual property of Western businesses in order to accelerate its own industrial growth and eventually control several important industries.

The response from China at the time was that Mr. Wray was “smearing China” and had a “Cold War mentality.”

Scenes from Ramayana and 3-day Deepotsav in Ayodhya showcased in Uttar Pradesh tableau for 2023 Republic Day parade

0

Scenes from the Sanskrit epic Ramayana and the three-day Deepotsav celebrated in Ayodhya last year were chosen as the main themes for Uttar Pradesh’s tableau, which rolled down the Kartavya Path in New Delhi during the 74th Republic Day parade today (Thursday, January 26, 2023).

Ayodhya Deepotsav 2022, celebrated on the eve of Diwali, had set a new Guinness World Record by lighting over 15 lakh earthen lamps on the banks of the Saryu River in Uttar Pradesh.

The tableau also featured Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from 14 years of exile.

According to the theme, the tableau featured a big idol of guru Vashishtha, Lord Ram’s family Guru, in the front. It also included a giant replica of a lamp, symbolising the end of ignorance and the spread of the light of knowledge. The central section depicted Ayodhya in all its splendour, ready to welcome Lord Ram after a 14-year exile.

The tableau’s rear part was dedicated to Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, brother Laxman, and their army arriving in Ayodhya in their Pushpak Viman. The joy and festivity that reigned in Ayodhya upon the return of Ram, Laxman, and Sita were replicated. The tableau also featured Lord Ram’s brother Bharat seated alongside other relatives. In addition, Deepotsav at Ram ki Paidi, Saryu Ghat, and other locations were depicted on either side of the tableau.

“The grand and unique Deepotsav of Ayodhya is a sincere and pious effort to send the divine message of a harmonious society of Ram Rajya to the world and the humanity at large”, the description of the theme and design of the tableau that was sent to the central government committee in Delhi that screens tableaux for the parade had read.

Notably, this is the second time in three years that Ayodhya has figured as UP’s theme at the Republic Day parade. During the ceremonial Republic Day parade in 2021, the state’s tableau depicted Ayodhya’s heritage. The bedecked tableau was fronted by a sitting model of Maharishi Valmiki and the temple model was on the rear side. The theme ‘Ayodhya: Cultural Heritage of Uttar Pradesh’ at the time, featured visuals of Shri Ram and the Bhavya Ram Mandir at Ram Janmabhoomi. This was selected as the best tableau in the 2021 parade.

Interestingly, last year’s Republic Day tableau of Uttar Pradesh, which had Kashi Vishwanath Dham as the theme was also selected as the best tableau among the 12 States/UTs which participated in the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2022.

Uttar Pradesh’s 2022 Republic Day Tableau depicting the Kashi Viswanath Dham

“Our Ayodhya tableau of 2021, which was centred around the upcoming Ram temple and tableau of 2022 that depicted the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, Varanasi, had evoked unprecedented response from many among the spectators when they stood up and bowed to the tableau,” a senior UP government officer associated with the theme and planning of state’s tableaux had said. He added that since the last two years, the UP tableaus (Ayodhya theme: 2021, Kashi corridor, 2022) had been winning first prize.

Meanwhile, this year, a total of 23 tableaux, 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments, depicting India’s diverse culture and economic and social progress were part of the parade on the Kartavya Path this year. Haryana chose the Bhagavad Gita as its inspiration for this year’s Republic Day tableau with a huge model of a chariot pulled by four horses being its main attraction. The front part of the tableau depicted Lord Krishna in his ‘Virat Swaroop.’

For the first time, Kartavya Path witnessed the 21-gun salute given to President Droupadi Murmu during the parade with 105mm Indian field guns, replacing the British-made 25-pounder guns.

In addition, the marching contingent included three women and six Agniveers. For the first time, an Egyptian Army unit marched in the R-day parade today. The Egyptian military contingent is represented by 144 men in the parade. Military assets created in India were shown during the parade, demonstrating the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Salman arrested in the kidnapping case of a 15-year-old Hindu girl. Was planning to force her into marriage

0

The underage Hindu girl, who was kidnapped a month and a half ago, has been found by the Ghaziabad police. The police have also arrested the kidnapper Salman in the case. Salman, who had previously entrapped other Hindu females as well, was reportedly getting ready to wed the underage girl. During the course of the police investigation, three other cases involving the accused have also surfaced. Police will now do a medical assessment of the victim before recording her statement in court.

The teen was abducted a month and a half ago

On December 14, 2022, a 15-year-old girl from Govindpuram in the Kavinagar police station area went to buy milk but never came back. It was discovered during the family’s investigation that Salman had kidnapped her. The girl is a class VIII student. Her father reported the kidnapping to the Kavi Nagar police department.

The girl was taken to Uttarakhand and held captive

Salman was taken into custody by the Ghaziabad police on Wednesday in connection with this case. He runs a consulting firm and was formerly a resident of Panju Sarai village in the Naugawan Sadat police station area of Amroha district. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) City, Nipun Aggarwal stated that the suspect kept the victim in a number of places in Uttarakhand and UP, including Kashipur and Udham Singh Nagar, after the abduction. According to the authorities, those who provided Salman with sanctuary are also being sought. They will face prosecution for giving shelter to a criminal.

In order to prevent anyone from finding him, he repeatedly changed his mobile number. Muhid, a friend of Salman and a resident of Garhmukteshwar, who participated in the kidnapping, was arrested on December 31, 2022, according to the authorities. Muhid admitted to the abduction, but he was unaware of Salman’s whereabouts at the time.

Kidnapped by threatening to kill family

According to the police, after speaking with the student, it was discovered that Salman had brought a vehicle and urged the girl to sit in it. He then threatened to harm her family before kidnapping her against her will.

The girl is undergoing medical examination

It is being determined through a medical examination of the victim whether the accused sexually assaulted her during the previous one and a half months. The victim’s statement will be recorded in front of a magistrate. The statements will serve as the basis for further action.

Used to coerce women by assuming different names

Police discovered that Salman had a history of luring Hindu girls when they looked into his background. Every Hindu female he trapped was given a different name by him. Salman reportedly married a Hindu woman from Hapur roughly six years ago and also has a child with her, according to DCP Nipun Aggarwal. He then married another woman, from his own community. Afterward, he trapped another Hindu woman in his net, who is currently pregnant. According to the police, the accused was also getting ready to forcefully marry the teen.

Police suspects Salman was part of a “Love Jihad” type gang

The authorities are investigating whether a major gang is involved in entrapping the girls in this manner. Salman’s mobile phone is being retrieved and his social accounts are being traced. According to the DCP, there hasn’t been any communication or money transfer from any suspicious sources up to this point.

Pakistan: Muslim gang shoots dead Christian farm owner for trying to stop them from picking guava in his farm

On January 13, a Christian farm contractor identified as Allah Ditta Masih was brutally murdered by three Muslim men in the Renala Khurd city of Pakistan. The three accused have been identified as Osama, Intizar, and Awais.

According to the reports, the police filed an FIR against the three based on the complaint registered by Kashif Masih, the son of the victim. Kashif said that his father 55 years old Allah Ditta Masih was a farm contractor and was brutally shot dead by three village men Osama, Intizar, and Awais.

Kashif said that on the day of the murder, his father along with two of his sons Shahbaz and Kashif were looking after their guava orchard near the village. At around 2 pm, the three accused arrived at the farm and began picking the guavas from the orchard. They were plucking guavas, having bites, and throwing them away if they don’t like the taste. Seeing this, Allah Ditta Masih tried to stop them. The accused were known to him and they had stolen from the farm earlier also. He asked them to not waste the fruits and said that the fruits are not ripe yet.

On being asked to leave by the Christian farmer, the three Muslims got agitated, and they started to abuse him, calling him a filthy Christian. The three engaged in a verbal fight with Allah Ditta Masih. After that, Osama took out the weapon and shot Masih in the chest. After shooting the farmer, the three men threatened the frightened Christian family with death if they told the police, then laughed while fleeing from the crime scene. While leaving, they shouted, ‘You Christian Chura (filthy street sweepers) have no chance of justice for you, we can kill you whenever we want’. They also damaged more fruits while going away.

The injured Masih was then taken to the nearby hospital named the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Renala Khurd where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s son Kashif registered a complaint against the three and demanded strict punishment against the accused. The police registered an FIR against the three culprits under counts 34 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The Police have arrested one of the accused identified as Intizar from his house. Intizar confessed to the crime and the police are now looking for Osama and Muhammad Awais.

Reportedly, the three culprits belong to wealthy families and have strong political connections. Osama’s father is a retired army officer and has already reached out to Allah Ditta’s family, apologizing for his son’s behaviour.

‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ slogan raised in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, police register case against unknown persons after VHP shares video

0

On Wednesday, January 25, Vishwa Hindu Parishad national spokesperson Vinod Bansal took to Twitter to share two videos, wherein several people were seen raising the controversial Islamist slogans of ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’.

While the first video was reportedly captured outside the Badwali Chowki, the second occurred outside the Khajrana Police Station in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. In both videos, Muslim men, including young children, can be heard shouting “Gustakh-e-Rasool ki Ek hi saza, sar tan se Juda, sar tan se Juda” (call for the beheading of those who allegedly disrespect Prophet Muhammad) and “Allah ho Akbar” slogans.

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal tagged state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Home Minister Narottam Mishra in the tweet and wrote, “They (Chouhan and Mishra) possibly don’t know that ‘sar tan se juda’ gang has become active in Indore today.” He said there was an urgent need to take action against these “jihadi” elements.

“Our high level state delegation is going to meet the highest police authority in Indore tonight to take stern action against the Jihadi gang immediately,” Bansal wrote in another tweet.

On Wednesday night, a local VHP delegation met with City Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra and presented a memorandum against this incident reported outside the Badwali Chowki.

Mishra said a case under section 505 and other relevant provisions of the India Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Sadar Bazar police station for alleged objectionable sloganeering in the Badwali Chowki area.

According to media reports, the offensive slogans were raised in response to some organisations’ demonstrations in parts of Madhya Pradesh against the premiere of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan movie.

The violent repercussion of fanatics raising ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ slogans

“Gustakh-e-Rasool ki Ek hi saza, sar tan se Juda, sar tan se Juda”, which translates to “There is only one punishment for being disrespectful to Rasool (Prophet Muhammad), their head separated from their torso, their head separated from the torso”, an Islamist clarion call, has become a staple feature of violent protests that have, in the name of blasphemy, erupted in almost every corner of the country.

Such violent Islamist protests have so far claimed the lives of many Hindus. Most notable cases include the murder of Mahashay Rajpal (killed in the 1920s for publishing Rangeela Rasool), Kamlesh Tiwari (killed in 2019 for alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed), Kanhaiya Lal (killed in 2022 for supporting Nupur Sharma), Umesh Kolhe (killed 2022 for supporting Nupur Sharma), Kishan Bharwad (Killed in 2022 for publishing a visual image of Prophet Muhammad), Harsha (killed in February 2022 for his fierce stand against wearing the Burqa at college campuses) and many others.

AAP-friendly musician Vishal Dadlani claims the preamble of the Constitution of India that BR Ambedkar wrote had ‘secular’ word in it, here is the truth

On January 26, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) friendly musician Vishal Dadlani wished on Republic Day while claiming that the Preamble of the Constitution of India that BR Ambedkar wrote had a ‘secular’ word. He said, “Happy #RepublicDay2023. May India always be the Sovereign, Socialist, Secular Democratic Republic defined by Dr. #Ambedkar in the #ConstitutionOfIndia. May every Indian be equal, may religion be removed from governance, may caste be annihilated forever. #JaiHind”

Source: Twitter

Dadlani was referring to the preamble of the Constitution of India that reads, “We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic and to secure to all its citizens”.

However, it is not the original preamble of the Constitution of India. The current version of the preamble came into existence with an amendment done by the government under then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1976 when an emergency was imposed in the country.

The current preamble of the constitution

The original preamble written under the supervision of BR Ambedkar read, “We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a sovereign Democratic Republic”.

The original preamble of the constitution

Netizens react to the blunder made by Dadlani

The blunder made by Dadlani did not go well on social media. Several netizens called him out for putting up the wrong information in his tweet. Indic Wanderer said, “As Chairman of The constitution Committee, Dr BR Ambedkar ji never said nor wrote words Secular or Socialist. May the spirit of the original constitution prevail for ages as it is the only force to keep Bharat secular.”

Gaurav Tripathi said, “Sir, “Socialist and Secular India” was never defined by Dr Ambedkar. It was added by the 42 constitutional amendment act, which was enacted during the emergency by Indira Gandhi and her Gov.”

Eminent Intellectual said, “Ambedkar did not say Secular & Socialist bollywoodiya. Fire your PR guy, tell him just bringing the T-shirt is not enough. Read a little too.”

Rahul Kaushik said, “Ambedkar died in 1956. Secular and Socialist were added to the constitution in 1976, almost 20 years after his demise. Baki Jo hai, so hai.”

Dadlani has a history of making bizarre claims and statements

This is not the first time Dadlani has made a blunder in his statements. On January 25, 2021, it was reported that during a reality show, Dadlani claimed late singer Lata Mangeshkar had sung ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’ for Nehru in 1947. The song that he claimed was sung in 1947 was written in 1962 and sung by Lata Mangeshkar. During a live performance, she sang the song on January 26, 1963, at the National Stadium in New Delhi.

In December 2019, Dadlani made a bizarre claim and said rapes, encounters and onion prices were in the news as a part of an evil plan to distract the people from the “dangerous” Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Joshimath crisis explained: Rehabilitation underway, govt building pre-fabricated houses, 70% shops are open

In the midst of the continuing crisis in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the government is working on interim rehabilitation and pre-fabricated buildings for impacted people who have been forced to leave the region owing to land subsidence.

According to an official statement issued by the Uttarakhand government, Chief Minister Dhami stated that at least 100 to 150 pre-fabricated shelters will be erected to assist those impacted by subsidence. This is after Emaar India CEO Kalyan Chakraborty met the Uttarakhand CM at the secretariat on Tuesday.

“Rehabilitation works are in progress in the area. The Char Dham Yatra is to begin after four months. He said that at such a time the message should not go that the entire Joshimath area is unsafe. Many misconceptions are being spread about Joshimath, which are not correct. Around 70 per cent of shops are open and essential work is being conducted normally,” said the Chief Minister asking everyone to be cooperative in helping the affected people of Joshimath.

Noting that the redevelopment work in the area is government’s top priority for now, the Chief Minister said, “We have to work in this direction so that the Joshimath area, which has cultural, religious and strategic value, should be safe. It is our responsibility to restore Joshimath to its former glory.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also constantly reviewing the redevelopment work and that he has assured to extend all the possible help to the affected persons.

Following the ground subsidence that displaced numerous residents in Joshimath, Himanshu Khurana, District Magistrate of Chamoli, stated that the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) has started constructing one, two, and three BHK type pre-fabricated homes for the afflicted families.

The Chamoli DM directed the authorities to speed up the development work by assessing the location, and he noted that property in Dhak had also been chosen. “For this, the Disaster Department has released Rs 2 crore 14 lakhs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary Disaster Management Ranjit Kumar Sinha earlier noted that Rs 3.45 crore has been disbursed as temporary relief to 261 affected households in Joshimath.

What happened at Joshimath?

Authorities designated Joshimath, Uttarakhand, a landslide and subsidence-hit zone on Sunday, nearly a week after fractures developed in major highways and hundreds of buildings. The statement came during a high-level conference with senior Central government officials, Uttarakhand state officials, and top personnel from agencies such as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Geological Survey of India (GSI), and the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH).

According to the officials, as of Sunday around 68 families were evacuated to temporary relief centres and around 90 more were supposed to be evacuated soon. Joshimath, also known as Jyotirmath is situated in the Chamoli district of the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand and is bounded by two regional thrusts named Vaikrita to the north and Munsiari to the south.

The city is located in the Middle Himalayas at an elevation of around 1875 metres. It is also a popular tourist and religious destination due to its proximity to the holy shrine of Badrinath, the Valley of Flowers National Park, and Shri Hemkund Sahib, a holy Sikh pilgrimage site.

Reports mention that the 1991 and 1999 earthquakes proved that the area is susceptible to earthquakes. Also, scientists from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing in Dehradun, based on satellite data from July 2020 to March 2022, discovered that Joshimath and the surrounding areas were sinking at a pace of 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) each year. Their discoveries are consistent with the base eroding of the Joshimath slope along the Alaknanda river.

Assumed causes of Joshimath land subsidence

The actual cause of the Joshimath land subsidence is unknown, although experts believe it was caused by uncontrolled development, overcrowding, restriction of the natural flow of water, and hydropower operations.

According to experts, Joshimath city has been developed on an old landslide material, which means it is built on a deposit of sand and stone rather than rock, which does not have a great load-bearing capability. As a result, the area is very sensitive to expanding infrastructure and population.

Moreover, unplanned and unregulated development has obstructed the natural flow of water, resulting in regular landslides. Reports earlier also mentioned that one of the causes of the disaster is the development of NTPC’s Tapovan Vishnugad Hydro Power Project. Water seepage from a perforated aquifer was discovered in the tunnel, resulting in the drying of water sources in Joshimath.

However, NTPC official has said that linking the land subsidence near Joshimath to the Tapovan Vishnugad Hydroelectric Project is incorrect. According to the official, the tunnel is being built beneath “competent rock” and has no effect on the surrounding rock mass.

“It is wrong to relate the situation in Joshimath with the NTPC tunnel since it is being constructed with the help of a tunnel boring machine. Out of the 12 km long tunnel, the 8.5 km tunnel is being done by tunnel boring and the rest will be done by blasting. The tunnel does not pass through Joshimath,” the official said.

What is land subsidence

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), subsidence is the sinking of the ground because of underground material movement. It can happen for a variety of reasons, both man-made and natural, such as the extraction of water, oil, or natural resources, as well as mining activities. Some well-known causes of subsidence include earthquakes, soil erosion, and soil compaction.

If THIS is how ‘democracy is dead’ for our Liberal friends, then yes, it is and it should be: Here is why

Is democracy dead? The biggest sweeping statement of the century and something that our liberals love to repeat.

If a barrage of accusations does not work you make a sweeping statement – expecting to sweep the opinion of the world at large in one shot. A sweeping statement could be defined as ‘To make a statement which applies to all things of a particular kind, although no one has considered all the relevant facts carefully.’ A sweeping statement is more of a generalized statement, may be off the cuff or even a loose statement.

First thing first- if in a democracy anyone can say in TV debates, write editorial articles or shout in dharna platforms that democracy is dead and you are still alive and thriving, that itself proves that democracy is not dead! If on Republic Day, when Indian armed forces are proudly marching on the Rajpath and the world is watching us – just a few miles away from this national celebration, a few thousand farmers take some flag other than the national flag, hijack the red fort, the symbol of our democracy, and hoist it there and are not shot dead and, come back alive-injuring hundreds of policemen in uniform on duty, that means democracy is not dead.

In a supposedly ‘dead democracy’, one of the agitators driving a tractor at breakneck speed meets with a fatal accident and a senior journalist proceeds to announce in his tweet that the farmer has been shot dead by police/security forces. Almost immediately, the so-called farmers say that this ‘sacrifice’ will not go in vain and make enough international sensation with a blatant lie. They walk free – in a supposedly dead democracy.

After all what is democracy?

It is a common value shared by the entire world. It is a right for all nations, not a prerogative reserved for a few. Democracy takes different formats and nuances and there is no one-size-fits-all model that can be defined. It will therefore be ‘undemocratic’ to measure the diverse political systems and practices in the world with a single yardstick or examine different political civilizations from a single perspective.

It also means that the political system of governance of the people of a nation-state should be decided by its own people. Yet in complex and ever-changing power equations and national interests which should be limited to your own interest, nations love poking their nose in others’ affairs. Actually it is in their national interest to poke their nose into other’s national interests.

For instance, the US so called the most powerful and developed nation, despite the structural flaws and practices with several fault lines in its own democratic system, always claims to be a “model of democracy” a beacon of freedom. Of course, it feels that its national interest lies in keeping other nations in check or worse, keeping them unstable politically- making them look undemocratic- voila! Therefore it has regularly interfered in other countries’ internal affairs and waged wars under the guise of “democracy”, creating regional turbulence and humanitarian disasters as if in a boiling pot.

Democracy is a manifestation of the political advancement of humanity. It means “rule by the people” or “sovereignty of the people”. Rome from the times of Julius Ceaser had a senate and senators who were ‘supposed’ to be representing people.

Today also senators or members of a legislative house are elected with ‘due processes’ of voting by the people to power – to govern them.

Singapore is a vibrant democracy and yet made a very rapid development model which was put in place by their late Prime Minister Lee Kuan yew. He ruled with an iron fist yet was elected again and again by the same people and was a guiding spirit for Singapore for 31 years – yes three decades. Lee insisted that Governance was first and foremost about results and that is what people want. No doubt that superior performance by the government requires superior moral leadership, which can take tough and unpopular decisions. You cannot and should not compare Singapore to America- you will go all wrong. What applies to the US does not apply to Singapore- as economic, demographic and social conditions and needs, and priorities are entirely different.

The Indian scenario

As US and Singapore- both democracies- are entirely differently governed. It has to be an ‘as it suits you’ model of governance despite being the same broad framework of democracy and its tenets and spirit.

Then how is India different? We have our own problems. We speak different languages, we have diverse cultures, and we inherited problems like two states of Hindustan and Pakistan – sworn enemies. Yes, we, unfortunately, wear the ‘secular card’ on both the sleeves and also on our shirt pocket and written all over our national Gandhi Topi too. We remind ourselves of this every day and others keep reminding us too- you created it- now you better behave. We are tolerant- because of this tag, the self-acquired tag of honour- in fact have been over-tolerant of ourselves and others as well.

Since the time of independence, we made a hash of our economy, we had little respect for the law within and our ‘nation first’ stance took a battering as it was free for all. Why do we make a law if it is not implemented? America around two hundred years back was anarchy in a way where the rule of the ‘fastest draw’ made it to the top. Sheriffs of counties were gunned down, ‘wanted posters’ were pasted outside saloons with rewards in hundreds of dollars – and they still take pride in having gun battles, of course of a different kind. We Indians wear a moustache for pride- the bigger the better- they wear a gun even today as everyone is gun-slinging – The more powerful the gun, the better. No democratic American senate has been able to tame this despite public outcries against mass shootings. There truly is no comparison between India and the US – we are different. We always were different.

We distorted our own history, we could not shrug off the “Mughal or even British Raj” tag on our shoulders and carried as a great chip on our collars and shoulders till someone came- duly elected by us- to wake us up. If a democratically elected government shakes you up to reality, it does not become undemocratic.

The problem with the world powers and the out-of-power Indian politicians is exactly this – they detest the fact that the opioid-induced Indian is waking up to the realities that were tucked away from him.

Democracy is not dead but now it has become a vibrant governance of a vibrant people.

Earlier democracy was used in India to serve individuals and their families. This has yet not been fully eradicated. Americans did have their Kennedys and Bushes but the baton was not handed over like kingdoms. In India it was and it still is, which the people want to change. Through democracy. To the vested interests, this too is unacceptable.

National pride needs three things. Past (Culture and Heritage), Present (security, progress) and future (A clear road map to flourish). If these things are met a common man is happy. The problem is that people are reasonably happy. We had been asked to struggle only for roti, kapada aur makan and our aspirations were limited or stunted to this level for almost seven decades. We remained Bonsais in our thinking.

Today we are looking at the biggest, tallest, longest and fastest – be it highways, trains, statues or the economy of the nation. We have started thinking big at last- that I feel is the biggest achievement of people through this model of governance. When 1.4 billion people have this bounce in their spirits and thoughts- the world will be at our feet and that is the worry of the world!

And that is why this cry wolf of dead or deadly democracy.

You can abuse the elected government, criticize the judiciary and the Prime Minister whenever and wherever you want and you say freedom of speech is curtailed. You want to pelt stones at will on police and armed forces and expect the law agencies to garland you. In the US If you do stone pelting and injure a man or woman in uniform you can be sentenced to life. In Israel, it is 20 years. Most democracies have a 5 to 15 years jail sentence for this. But in India, you think and want you should go scot-free! For the perpetually offended Leftists and Islamists, India will not be a democracy till it bends to their undemocratic ways – and Indians just won’t have it anymore.

For the Leftists and the Islamists,

Democracy is dead because more than 2000 people have been evicted from government accommodation they were illegally occupying for decades.

Democracy is dead if everyone has to pay taxes.

Democracy is dead because GST was implemented and it worked well.

Democracy is dead because government servants and political leaders have been made accountable.

Democracy is dead as middlemen sucking money out of the system have become unemployed.

Democracy is now dead as youth are asked to become entrepreneurs and become job creators and not job seekers.

Democracy is dead because income tax returns no more require middlemen to help you and no one can take bribe.

Democracy is dead if goons/ gundas are scared of the law.

Democracy is dead when women are feeling safe to walk on the roads.

Democracy is dead if haj subsidy has been done away with.

Democracy is dead because article 370 has been abolished.

Democracy is dead if you are no more allowed to pelt stones on uniformed fraternity.

Democracy is dead if armed forces have been given a free hand to deal with the enemies at borders.

Democracy is dead if the foreign policy is now guided by our national interest.

Democracy is dead if the PM in an open forum asks the vigilance and enforcement agencies to do their job without any fear.

Democracy is dead because every Indian has become nationalistic and wears it on his sleeve.

Democracy is dead when a true proud Indian doesn’t let you abuse his country.

Democracy is dead if 20 crore flags are hoisted by Indians at their homes on 15th August.

Democracy is dead if unaccounted money is brought to the book by raids on the corrupt people.

Democracy is dead if 80 crore people below poverty line have been given rations during and after pandemic.

Democracy is dead because names of roads and cities have been changed from that of invaders to patriots.

Democracy is dead if 200 crore Covid vaccinations have been administered despite negative publicity by opposition trying their best to dissuade people.

Democracy is dead if 1.4 billion people supported the Prime Minister for demonetization and didn’t come on the roads despite all the clamor by media and opposition.

Democracy is dead if Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s statue has been installed on Raj Path.

Democracy is dead because the tallest statue in the world has been built as statue of liberty.

Democracy is dead because you can write to the PMO office directly and expect a response.

Democracy is dead if the Prime Minister is behaving and acting like a Prime minister.

Democracy is dead if all the ministers are giving due respect to the PM and are accountable.

Democracy is dead when secular is being truly implemented as secular.

Democracy is dead as a common man gives two hoots to award wapsi?

Democracy is dead because your fabricated ‘intolerance‘is not being tolerated by billion plus Indians.

Democracy is dead when Indian diaspora also supports the government and is ready to support the nation sitting thousands of miles away.

If so, let democracy be dead.
