Centre gets seventh consecutive extension of six months to frame CAA rules from Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha approval waited

For the seventh time in a straight, the central government has sought an extension of time to frame rules under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed in December 2019. The Rajya Sabha committee has already granted the Centre’s plea for an additional six months to develop regulations under the. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), additional time was required to formulate the Act’s rules before they could be put into effect. The Lok Sabha committee’s verdict is still pending.

It is notable that without framing rules under the new act, the act can’t be implemented.

The parliamentary committee on subordinate legislation had earlier extended the deadline in the Rajya Sabha until December 31 2022 and in the Lok Sabha until January 9, 2023. According to sources, the MHA requested a six-month extension, which the Rajya Sabha committee granted until June 30.

According to the Manual on Parliamentary Work, a Ministry shall “request an extension of time from the Committee on Subordinate Legislation expressing grounds for such extension” if it is unable to prepare the rules regulating a law within the required period of six months following the signing. This is the seventh consecutive time that the union government has sought a six-months time to frame the rules of CAA.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, stated while addressing a program in November 2022 that the Covid19 outbreak had caused a delay in the act’s implementation. He had said that the CAA would unquestionably be implemented and anyone who believed otherwise would be proven to be wrong.

The Citizenship Amendment Act was approved by the president the day after it was enacted by Parliament on December 11, 2019, and the MHA then notified the public. Approximately 83 people lost their lives and countless more were hurt during the nationwide demonstration and subsequent riots against this law. Significantly, the religiously persecuted minority migrants from neighboring Muslim-majority countries who entered India before or on December 31, 2014, will receive Indian citizenship through the CAA. It was approved for migrants from non-Muslim communities, such as Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Christians, and Parsis from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Samajwadi Party’s IT cell member Manish Jagan Agarwal arrested for posting offensive tweets, party workers protest

On Sunday, January 8, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Manish Jagan Agarwal for posting offensive tweets against many BJP spokespersons and several journalists. As per the police, these tweets even included offensive language against the families of BJP spokespersons and those journalists.

Deputy commissioner of police, central zone, Aparna Rajat Kaushik, said that Manish was arrested in connection with a case lodged against him on December 26, 2022, by a journalist Vishwa Gaurav Tripathi alleging unsavory remarks, and threats via the Samajwadi Party social media account.

Following the arrest of Manish Jagan Agarwal, Samajwadi Party immediately tried to help their member and demanded his release.

However, a cursory look at Manish Jagan Agarwal’s Twitter account made it clear that it was an account indulging in abusing others.

Angry over the arrest of the abusive Manish Jagan Agarwal, many Samajwadi Party workers gathered outside the Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters in Lucknow, demanding his immediate release. However, they had to return with disappointment as the police refused to budge.

Manish Jagan Agarwal, the Samajwadi leader in the eye of the storm, hails from Sitapur. He claims to be the family member of Jagannath Prasad Agarwal, a senior politician of yesteryears.

Tunisha ‘suicide case’- Sheezan used her to meet his drugs expense, alleges late actress’ mother

0

Vanita Sharma, the mother of Tunisha Sharma, refuted the allegations of the family of Sheezan, an accused in the late actor’s murder case, and alleged that he used her to meet his expenses for drugs.

Vanita also denied the claims of Sheezan’s family that Tunisha was being “neglected” by her mother which led her to depression, and said that the late actor loved her very much and shared everything with her.

Speaking to ANI, Tunisha’s mother said, “I do not need to explain to anyone what relationship I shared with Tunisha. Tunisha was my daughter, she was the closest to me. She loved me very much. Even she used to sleep with me and used to share everything with me.”

Tunisha’s mother also referred to the actor’s audio to state that both of them loved each other.

She alleged murder “instead of suicide” while citing the instance of the day Tunisha died. The mother alleged that Sheezan had taken her to the hospital which was farther from the set instead of a nearby hospital.

“It could be murder instead of suicide. Because Sheezan took Tunisha to a hospital far away from the studio, whereas the hospital was just 5 minutes away from the studio. But he did not take her there. There should be an inquiry as to what happened between Tunisha and Sheezan in those 15-20 minutes. Only then the truth will come out. Had Sheezan taken Tunisha to the nearest hospital, Tunisha would have been with us today because she was still breathing,” she claimed.

Retorting to the allegations by Sheezan’s family that Tunisha’s mother controlled her finances, so much so that she had to plead before her mother for her own money, Vanita said that she transferred Rs 3 lakh in 3 months to Tunisha.

“Tunisha had no shortage of money. I used to transfer money to her from time to time. Even in the last 3 months, I had transferred up to Rs 3 lakh rupees to Tunisha. Tunisha used to buy expensive branded things. Whatever things Tunisha wanted, she used to bring them,” she said.

She claimed that she used to give whatever Tunisha asked for and fulfilled all her wishes. The mother said that Tunisha, in the last few days, had started “hiding things” and taking money from her friends.

“Although for the last few days, she had started hiding things. She started asking for money from her friends and even used to tell them not to tell her mother. So it is possible that Sheezan was taking drugs and for that Tunisha was asking her friends for money. Sheezan was also getting her addicted to drugs. Tunisha used to meet Sheezan’s expenses. Even when his car broke down, Tunisha used to help him. For 1 month, he was traveling in my car as well,” she claimed.

She also denied Sheezan’s family’s allegation that Vanita used to “strangulate” Tunisha and said that she never even raised her hand on her daughter.

“Till date, I have never raised my hand on Tunisha, let alone strangle her. Sheezan and his family have used Tunisha in every way. Tunisha has visited America, Dubai, and Kashmir. We used to make plans to visit everywhere and we had also made plans to go to Goa. Whatever allegations Sheezan’s family is making regarding Tunisha are totally wrong,” she said.

The mother further said that Tunisha had told her about breakup with Sheezan and his habit of consuming drugs.

“When Tunisha had a breakup with Sheezan, she had told me that Sheezan used and cheated on her and even slapped her. Even Sheezan used to take drugs. Tunisha was in a relationship with Sheezan since June. When they went to Ladakh for an outdoor shoot. I had no problem with Tunisha’s relationship. She told me that she is in love with Sheezan and wants to marry him. I had no objection but many changes had come in Tunisha. She started speaking Urdu, and started wearing hijab and it was not because she was doing a Muslim show. In fact, even before this he had done the show Ishq Subhan Allah, then there were no changes in this way, so it is obvious that Sheezan was asking him to do all these things,” the mother claimed.

“Sheezan already knew everything about Tunisha’s age and religion. Whatever he is saying today is totally baseless. I want justice from the government, this whole matter should be investigated and Sheezan should be punished severely,” she added.

Sheezan Khan was reportedly dating Tunisha Sharma, who was allegedly found hanging at a TV serial set on December 24, a fortnight after the two allegedly broke up their few-months-long relationship.

Within hours of the actress’ demise, Sheezan Khan, who worked with the 20-year-old actor in ‘Ali Baba Dastaan-E-Kabul’, was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide.

Central government bans proxy groups of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, several persons declared terrorists

In a crackdown on cross-border terrorism, the Centre has banned two proxy organizations of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and People’s Anti-Fascist-Front (PAFF), a proxy organisation of Jaish-e-Mohammed, have been banned by the union government.

Along with this, four persons have been declared terrorists in the last four days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have repeatedly emphasized that the Centre is adopting a zero-tolerance policy while taking action against terror groups and terrorists. The recent actions by the union government are seen against this backdrop.

On January 5, the Home Ministry declared The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy organization of the Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a banned organization. The Home Ministry said the TRF has been recruiting youth through online mode for furthering terrorist activities, recruitment of terrorists, infiltration of terrorists, and smuggling of arms and narcotics from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir. Starting in 2019 as a representative of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba ( LeT), the group has been involved in a number of terrorist activities, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

At the same time, TRF also works to incite the people of Jammu and Kashmir to join terrorist organizations against the Government of India and conduct psychological campaigns on social media platforms. TRF commander Sheikh Sajjad Gul has already been designated as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967, the Home ministry said. A lot of cases have also been registered against TRF members and associates.

On January 6, the Home Ministry also banned the People’s Anti-Fascist-Front (PAFF), a proxy organisation of the Pakistani terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed. This organization is involved in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere. The Home Ministry said the PAFF continues to issue threats to security forces, political leaders and civilians working in Jammu and Kashmir from other states. PAFF, along with other organisations, used to carry out violent terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and other major cities of India and conspire through social media.

On January 4, the Home Ministry issued a notification stating that Aijaz Ahmad Ahangar alias Abu Usman al-Kashmiri is a Kashmir-born terrorist. He has links with al-Qaeda and other global terrorist groups and was preparing to turn India into an Islamic country. He has been declared a terrorist. Aijaz Ahmad, based in Afghanistan, is currently one of the major recruiters of the Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK).

Aijaz Ahmad was born in Srinagar in 1974. He has been a wanted terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir for the last two decades. He has planned many terrorist activities in the Union Territory in collaboration with many terrorist organizations. According to the Home Ministry, Aijaz Ahmad has been working towards promoting terrorism in Kashmir and has started identifying Kashmiri people who can be included in its network. He was appointed head of the Islamic State (IS) recruitment cell for India and was instrumental in launching an online India-centric ISIS propaganda magazine.

On January 5, the Home Ministry declared Mohammad Amin Khubaib alias Abu Khubaib, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, as a terrorist. At present, Amin is serving as the launching commander of Lashkar and has established good relations with several agencies across the border. He is playing an important role in the rapid resumption of Lashkar’s terrorist activities in Jammu. Mohammad Amin takes care of the coordination of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir from across the border, the supply of arms and explosives, and economic things related to terrorists.

On 6th January 2023, the Home Ministry also issued another notification declaring Arbaaz Ahmad Mir as a terrorist of the banned Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar. He is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir but is currently living in Pakistan. It is being told that he was involved in all the target-killing cases that have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few months.

On January 7, the Interior Ministry declared Asif Maqbool Dar a terrorist for influencing Kashmiri youth to take up arms. Asif currently lives in Saudi Arabia. He has been in touch with terrorists in the Kashmir Valley for quite some time and has been supporting terrorists by transporting illegal arms, ammunition and explosives from across the border.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that Asif Maqbool is involved in inciting the youth of Kashmir Valley to terrorist activities using social media platforms. He is associated with the banned terror group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and is one of the major radical fundamentalist Islamist voices on social media. At the same time, he instigates Kashmiri youth to take up arms against the security forces.

Investigations by the National Investigation Agency have found that he has links with a conspiracy hatched by cadres of the organisation carrying out violent terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been found guilty of activities in several major cities, including New Delhi.

West Bengal: Parents of Muslim students protest over ‘Jhatka’ chicken served in mid-day meal, demand resignation of principal

On Saturday, January 7, family members of Muslim students of a school in the east Medinipur district of West Bengal staged a protest against an alleged attempt to ‘desecrate’ their faith by feeding ‘Jhatka’ chicken to Muslim students. The reported incident took place in Mahisadal Raj High School in east Medinipur. The parents of Muslim students demanded the resignation of the school principal for serving non-halal meat to Muslim students.

The Muslim parents also claimed that the chicken slaughtered using the jhatka method are dead chickens, and as they are not slaughtered as per halal norms, it hurts the sentiments of the Muslims.

In a video of the incident doing rounds on social media, family members of Muslim students are seen arguing with the school authorities. Furthermore, they raised slogans against the alleged conspiracy against Islam and even dragged Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) into the matter. They claimed that serving Jhatka chicken in mid-day meals to Muslim students is part of the “RSS agenda to hurt their religious sentiments.”

It is pertinent to mention that this school in Mahisadal block is Bengali medium school and is run by the state government’s Education Department and is not a Madrasa or Islamic educational institution.

Notably, ahead of the Panchayat elections which are likely to be held in March, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal has recently introduced a revised mid-day meal menu for the government-run schools.

The scheme is planned for a duration of four months, starting from January till April this year. The revised mid-day meal menu includes additional nutrition in the form of eggs, chicken and seasonal fruits, which will be served weekly.

On January 3, the West Bengal School Education Department issued a notification stating that an additional Rs 372 crore will be allocated to provide eggs, chicken or fruits other than the usual menu which includes rice, potatoes, pulses, vegetables, soybean, and eggs.

Notification issued by the West Bengal School Education Department (Image tweeted by @ANI)

“Additional nutrition will include Egg / Chicken/ Seasonal fruits which may please be added with normal PM- POSHAN on weekly basis for 4 (four) months from January ’23 to April ‘23,” said the order. It is notable that the notification only mentions chicken, and does not mention the slaughter method.

The cost for additional nutrition for students enrolled in the mid-day meal scheme now known as PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman), as mentioned in the notification is Rs 20 a week for 16 weeks. It is notable that the notification nowhere mentions whether the chicken served will be halal which is permitted in Islam or Jhatka which is prohibited or Haraam in Islam.

Bihar Court orders Patna Police to register rape case against a senior IAS officer and a former RJD MLA

0

A Bihar court on Sunday ordered the Patna police to register a rape case against senior IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav in connection with the alleged rape of a woman at a Delhi hotel in 2021.

IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former MLA Gulab have been accused of gang rape at gunpoint of a woman. After hearing the petition filed by the victim’s lawyer, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Danapur Civil Court has ordered the registration of a rape case against both of them.

It is said that the woman had filed this petition in the year 2021 after which the bench sought a preliminary inquiry report on the matter from the Patna police. Still, the report was not submitted failing which the court dismissed the case.

The victim then challenged the order of the ACJM in the Patna High Court.

The High Court ordered a re-hearing of the case and said in its ruling that on the complaint of the rape victim, the Patna Police has to present the preliminary investigation report of the matter to ACJM Danapur Court. The court has also noticed the apathy of the Patna Police in this matter.

On the order of the High Court, the hearing started again in the Danapur court. At the same time, in the investigation of the police, it has come to know that officers Sanjeev Hans and Gulab Yadav were present in a hotel in Delhi along with the victim woman.

According to the information, the complainant in her complaint to Patna Police in 2021 alleged that the MLA Gulab Yadav had tempted her to make her a member of the Women’s Commission.

One day MLA Yadav called her to his flat in Rukanpura, Patna. During this, the MLA raped her and also made a video of her. After this the MLA started blackmailing her, the victim said.

The woman said that Gulab Yadav blackmailed her threatening to make the obscene video viral and called her to a hotel in Delhi, where IAS officer Sanjeev Hans was also present. Both of them carried out the incident of rape with her at gunpoint.

The complainant’s advocate Ranjan Kumar Sharma alleged that in 2021 both of them had done this.

The victim’s lawyer said that Gulab Yadav was RJD’s MLA from the Jhanjharpur assembly at that time and Sanjeev Hans was serving as the IAS officer in Patna.

Advocate Ranjan Kumar Sharma said that the complainant gave several written complaints to the Patna Police in 2021 for registering an FIR but due to the high profile case, the police remained silent and did not take any action. Then she had requested to register an FIR in the court of ACJM of Danapur but it was dismissed there also on the ground that the police have not submitted the reports, the advocate said.

“Now after receiving the orders from Patna High court the ACJM of Danapur Civil Court has ordered to register a rape case against both IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and MLA Gulab Yadav,” he added.

0

A madarsa clerk, his wife, and two children in the Jhajjar locality of Biswan town in Sitapur died on Saturday night while they were sleeping in a room in which a petromax with a five-liter gas cylinder was burning. The deceased Asif was a resident of Chinhat Rasoolpur Sadat in Lucknow. The incident came to light when the milkman came to know about it in the morning. The milkman knocked on the door several times but nobody opened the door. When the door of the house did not open for a long time, the locals informed the police.

Neighbour Irfan informed the police after nobody answered the door. Police personnel, who reached the spot, accessed the roof of Asif’s house from the roof of Irfan’s house. Police entered the house by cutting an iron grill on the roof. When the police arrived and saw the scene, everyone was shocked.

In the room, the husband and wife were lying on the sides of the bed and in the middle, both children were lying motionless. All of them were dead by then. Petromax was no longer burning but there was a strong smell of gas.

There was no movement when the police personnel shook the hands of the four lying on the bed. A crowd of hundreds of people had gathered outside the house of the deceased after getting the information about the incident.

Deputy District Magistrate P L Maurya and CO Abhishek Pratap Ajeya reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry into the situation and sent the four bodies for post-mortem in an ambulance. It is being told that Madarsa clerk Asif had started living with his wife and two children in Biswan for the last two and a half to three years.

Biswan SDM P L Maurya said, “Neighbours said that Asif was a clerk at Madarsa Islamia in Sadarpur. He slept with his wife Shagufta, son Zayed and daughter Myra on Saturday night. Shagufta’s elder sister also died earlier. She also has a younger sister and two brothers. Shagufta’s father passed away, while her mother is alive.”

Dear Vir Sanghvi, painting Indians as the worst due to a peeing incident is like painting all journalists corrupt due to the Radia tapes, please rethink

On January 6, in an episode of ‘To The Point’ with Vir Sanghvi on The Print’s YouTube channel, journalist Sanghvi talked about the Air India incident where a drunk male passenger urinated on an elderly female co-passenger in November last year. In his monologue, Sanghvi mentioned that he knows only one side of the story and has not yet seen the crew’s version of the incident. Furthermore, he pointed out how airline passengers, particularly Indian passengers, misbehave during flights.

While speaking about the issue, Sanghvi said while we keep mourning the Airlines, we often fail to check ourselves in the mirror and realise that the problem lies with the passengers. “No, Airlines are not perfect… but I don’t think that’s the only problem. The real problem is us. We are the worst passengers in the world.” Sanghvi listed the problems passengers face on the flights, which are common, especially in low-cost Airlines worldwide. However, he accused Indian passengers of being the worst passengers.

From rushing to get on and off the plane to getting extra luggage in cabin baggage, Sanghvi made it appear like it is only the Indians passengers who do these things. He portrayed as if it is only the Indian passengers who shove and push while getting on off the plane. He also talked about the recent video in which Indian passengers indulged in a fistfight at a Thai Airline over a petty matter of reclined seat.

The incident in question came to light after over a month, and actions were being taken by the authorities and Airlines. He has also been banned from flying Air India for 30 days. And while unruly passenger behaviour must be dealt with strongly, it would be unfair to paint everyone with same brush and generalise all Indian passengers. And to call them ‘the worst’ is a little too elitist, but not too surprising from Sanghvi, who seems to believe that only the luxurious five star hotels in Delhi, where about 90% people could not afford to eat, serve the best food.

Interestingly, for Sanghvi, Indians are not the only passengers who have behaved badly one plane or been unruly passengers. It is far too common. A quick Google search led to these incidents – which are obviously just examples of unruly behaviour of passengers and in an ideal scenario not a reflection on people of that nationality.

In October 2022, a British Airways passenger defecated on the floor of the plane and smeared it into the seats. Moments before the flight took off, the passenger went into a fit of anger, pulled his pants down and defecated on the plane floor. He then sat on the dump and smeared his hands in it. He stood up and walked on the gallery floor while rubbing the crap-smeared hands on the seats across the aisle. The emergency services were called in, and the flight was delayed for three hours.

In April 2022, a man was arrested for allegedly masturbating four times during a flight. The culprit, identified as Antonio Sherrodd McGarity, allegedly took off his pants soon after the flight and started masturbating. When the police arrested him, McGarity allegedly claimed he did not do anything wrong and “thought it was kind of kinky”.

In December 2021, a US woman was arrested for allegedly spitting and slapping a fellow passenger. The altercation happened as the man she spat on wore the mask chin-down. Interestingly, the woman herself was seen without a mask in the viral video.

In March 2021, a 39-year-old Russian woman was tied down by her co-passengers as she was repeatedly removing her undergarments. In a medical test, it was revealed she was on drugs.

In August 2019, it was reported in a Quora post a Chinese female passenger allegedly threw a cup of boiling hot water on an Air Hostess’s face just because she could not arrange a seat as per the passenger’s choice. As per the post, the female passenger wanted to sit next to her boyfriend. The Air Hostess tried for the same, but no passenger was ready to swap seats, and the request was denied. The female passenger got angry and threw hot water on the Flight Attendant’s face. Above all, the boyfriend also joined the rant and threatened to “blow up” the plane. The incident took place 5-6 years before the post was made on Quora. Notably, Chinese passengers are known for unruly behaviour, and often Chinese tourists are treated differently for their notorious behaviour in many countries.

In November 2018, an Irish lawyer named Simone O’Broin made headlines after abusing staff on an Air India flight from India to London. She spat on a crew member and used racial slurs as she was refused alcohol. Reportedly, she was initially served three bottles of wine but refused more. She went on calling the staff “Indian money-grabbing c***” and smoked a cigarette in the toilets during the episode.

In May 2018, a Russian man was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly masturbating on a flight from Istanbul. As per reports, an Indian woman sitting next to the Russian passenger informed the crew members about the incident and was shifted to a different seat. The authorities were informed before the plane landed, and the culprit was arrested by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

In July 2017, a similar incident was reported on an American Airlines flight. However, to the horror of the female passenger who witnessed the incident, she was not allowed another seat. She was forced to sit next to the person who was earlier caught masturbating. Interestingly, the man who had masturbated was sitting in the middle seat, and it was reported by the woman who was sitting in the aisle seat. The crew members moved her to another seat. However, the woman who was sitting on the window seat was sleeping during the ordeal. When she was informed about it but refused another seat. The French police arrested the man upon landing.

The way Sanghvi generalised all Indian passengers as the worst could be deemed as equal to calling all journalists corrupt and not too fond of ethics after a few journalists were accused of lobbying and planting news during the UPA era Radia tapes controversy.

In 2010, during the Congress regime, a scandal had come to the fore where journalists, including ones like Barkha Dutt, Vir Sanghvi and The Wire co-founder and Editor MK Venu, were allegedly heard hobnobbing with corporate lobbying Niira Radia. Radia was believed to be using journalists as brokers for securing favourable deals for her corporate clients from the UPA government. Vir Sanghvi had allegedly sought the lobbyist Niira Radia’s opinion on how ‘slanted’ she wanted an article to be today, hosting a news programme with the name ‘Virtuosity’.

But just because some journalists were accused of being brokers or indulging in lobbying for ministerial berths, does not mean all journalists in India do that.

‘A matter of personal anguish, we fell short of addressing the situation’: Tata Sons Chairman on the urination incident

0

The urination incident onboard an Air India flight between New York and Delhi on November 26 last year is a “matter of personal anguish”, said Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Sunday.

In a statement, Chandrasekaran said, “The incident on Air India flight AI102 on November 26th, 2022, has been a matter of personal anguish to me and my colleagues at Air India. Air India’s response should have been much swifter. We fell short of addressing this situation the way it should have been.” He further said that the Tata Group and Air India stand by the safety and well-being of the passengers and crew with full conviction.

“We will review and repair every process to prevent or address any incidents of such unruly nature,” he added.

Earlier, after facing backlash, Air India had issued show cause notices to four of its cabin crew and one pilot and de-rostered them pending investigations.

On Friday, Air India chief executive officer (CEO) Campbell Wilson also asked the airline staff to report any instances of “any improper behaviour on board to authorities at the earliest even if the matter appears to be resolved”.

In a letter to Air India employees, the CEO stated that timely action is necessary against those who don’t follow the flight rules.

Campbell said, “This week has, ‘regrettably’, been dominated by media headlines of which you are no doubt familiar. The repulsion felt by the affected passenger is totally understandable and we share her distress.”

He reiterated the importance of reporting untoward incidents onboard flights to authorities, even if the crew believes it has been resolved.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Saturday sent accused Shankar Mishra, who had allegedly urinated on a co-passenger, to 14 days of judicial custody.

Accused Shankar Mishra’s lawyer moved a bail plea in Delhi’s Patiala Court. The plea will be heard on January 11.

Mishra was arrested by Delhi Police from Bengaluru on Friday night.

Notably, the Delhi Police has so far recorded the statements of three crew members of Air India today in connection with the case.

Mishra had allegedly urinated on a 70-year-old woman in an intoxicated condition in business class of an Air India flight on November 26 last year.

Delhi Police had registered an FIR against him on January 4 on a complaint given by the woman to Air India.

The police registered an FIR under sections 354, 509, and 510 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 23 of the Indian Aircraft Act. Both the accused and the victim are from outside Delhi.

US-based financial services company Wells Fargo on Friday also terminated its employee Shankar Mishra.

“Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This individual has been terminated from Wells Fargo. We are cooperating with law enforcement and ask that any additional inquiries be directed to them,” the company said in a statement.

The company’s statement came after Delhi Police reached out to Wells Fargo to cooperate with investigations against accused Mishra.

This is not a country of Pujaris: Rahul Gandhi makes bizarre claims about ‘Pooja’ and ‘Tapasya’ during his Bharat Jodo Yatra

On Sunday (January 8), Congress scion Rahul Gandhi went on an unhinged rant against Pooja (Hindu form of worship) while trying to promote his latest avatar of Tapasvi (ascetic).

Rahul Gandhi made the contentious remarks during the Haryana leg of his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. While speaking to the media in Samana near Kurukshetra, Rahul Gandhi claimed that BJP is a party of ‘Pooja’ while Congress is a party of ‘Tapasya.

Upon realising that he may have upset his Hindu voters by taking potshots at their religious practice, Rahul Gandhi tried to undo the damage but ended up causing more harm to his party. “There are two types of Pooja – the normal one and the one done by RSS,” Rahul brazened it out.

“RSS wants people to forcibly worship them(do their Pooja). The response to such a form of worship can only be tapasya,” Rahul said. Rahul Gandhi also claimed that lakhs of people are doing ‘tapasya‘, along with Congress, to counter the effects of the ‘pooja’ of BJP and RSS.

“BJP says that there should be no respect for tapasya but only for those who do our pooja,” he said, adding that the saffron party attacked the poor men’s tapasya through its policies such as demonetisation, GST, and the farm laws.

He further alleged that PM Modi is afraid of the tapasya of journalists and that he is therefore afraid of press conferences. “Congress is an organisation of tapasya, BJP is an organisation of pooja,” Rahul Gandhi continued.

To further add credence to his outlandish claims, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party symbol has been derived from Abhay mudra of Hindu deities and how they reflect the essence of tapasya.

“The struggle for Independence was a struggle for tapasya and at that time, they (BJP/RSS) made the British rulers do pooja,” the Congress scion continued. At about 36 minutes into the press conference, he was asked by a journalist whether he has turned into an ascetic (tapasvi).

Rahul Gandhi claimed, “I was an ascetic and continue to be one. This is a country of ascetics. We do not respect tapasya enough, but, I do. This is the change I want to bring about. This is a country of ascetics and not those who do pooja (Pujaris). This is the reality of India.”

Rahul Gandhi compares his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to Swayamvar of Draupadi

During the same press conference, Rahul Gandhi was heard as saying, “When Arjuna was hitting the eye of the fish (during the Swayamvara of Draupadi), did he announce his future course of action to everyone?”

Rahul Gandhi made the remarks upon being asked about his plans after the conclusion of his political foot pilgrimage. He had compared himself to Arjuna and erroneously claimed that the warrior (just like him) did not know about the fruits of his actions.

“The story of Arjuna (not announcing his plans in advance) has a profound meaning. It is also mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita. You focus on the work and do not think about the results. This is the thinking behind the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress scion further added, “After the Yatra ends, there will be another task in hand and then possibly another. You will get to know about my plans at that time.”
