Sri Ram Sena district president and his driver escaped with injuries in a firing incident at Hindalaga village area, the police said on Sunday. 

Officials said that Ravi Kokitakera, District president of Sri Ram Sene escaped with injuries on the chin after an unknown person shot him. The firing incident happened near Hindalaga village at Belagavi. 

The bullets were fired by unidentified persons, and his driver was also injured in the incident, officials said. 

Both have been taken to a nearby hospital and admitted there. They are out of danger. 

A case has been registered in Belagavi rural police station and a probe has been initiated to identify and nab the accused, the police said.

Serial killer on the prowl in UP’s Barabanki, targets older women, three murdered till now

Residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district are in panic mode as a serial killer is on the prowl, targetting older women. 

Six police teams are engaged in the search for the killer. He has been accused of targeting older women and killing them, officials with Barabanki police said. At the same time, police posted a picture of the accused on Social media, and appealed to people to provide information on him. 

The killer has committed three murders so far, they said. 

The police officer investigating the case has now been removed and the SP has appointed another officer in his place. 

The first incident was reported in Ayodhya district on 5 December 2022. The 60-year-old victim from Khusheti village of Mawai area left home for some work. 

When she did not return till evening, the family members lodged a missing complaint at the police station following which a search was launched. 

Later on December 6, the body was found at a secluded place. 

The police said that there was no cloth on the dead body. The woman had injury marks on her face and head. The post-mortem report revealed that the woman was raped and strangulated to death, they said. 

In the second incident, the body of a 62-year-old woman was recovered from a field in Barabanki district. She was also found murdered in the same manner, the police said.

Kerala human sacrifice case: First chargesheet filed 89 days after first arrest made, Md Shafi, 2 others named accused

Kerala Police on Saturday submitted the first charge sheet in connection to the Kerala human sacrifice case. 

Police submitted the charge sheet before the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court at Ernakulam regarding the murder of Padma, who was a Tamil Nadu native, officials said. She was brutally killed in the name of human sacrifice. The chargesheet in the murder of Roslin, another victim is yet to be filed. 

“Three persons, identified as Muhammed Shafi, Bhagaval Singh, and Laila Bhagaval Singh, have been named as accused in the case,” said officials. 

The chargesheet was submitted on the 89th day since the arrests were made. 

Murder, conspiracy, and abduction have been included as offence, while 150 witnesses were named in the chargesheet, said officials. 

The three accused were arrested by the Kochi city police on October 11, last year, for murdering two women in a brutal manner in the name of human sacrifice in black magic rituals. 

The incident took place on June 6 and September 26. 

The remains of the two deceased women- identified as Padma and Roslin, were exhumed later from pits near the residence of Singh and Laila in the Pathanamthitta district. 

According to the Police remand report, on September 26, Shafi approached the 52-year-old Padma, who used to sell lottery tickets and lured her by offering Rs 15000. 

She had agreed and went with Shafi to the home of Bhagaval Singh and Laila, the report added. 

“There the accused strangulated her neck with a plastic chord and slit her throat. Shafi mutilated Padma’s private parts with a knife. After that, they chopped off her body into 56 parts and stored them into buckets and buried them in a pit,” the report detailed.

According to the report, the brother-in-law left the sister-in-law for prostitution in the red light area of Kolkata.

The victim narrated the incident to her father

After being released from jail, the father, came home, searching for the minor daughter. The elder daughter was contacted. The minor victim also somehow got information about the father’s release from jail. After reaching Dholpur from Kolkata, the victim narrated the incident to her father.

The father was shocked to know that the minor girl was being raped everywhere. He has lodged a case of gang rape against her brother-in-law, his younger brother, and his son along with friends at the women’s police station. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.

‘Won’t arrest the accused unless the crime is proved’: Police

Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Sankhla said, “A case of gang rape has been registered at the Women’s Police Station on the complaint of the minor. 376D has also been added to various sections of the POCSO Act. The incident is being investigated. The crime against the accused has not been proven yet. The accused will be arrested only if the crime is proved.”

The 16-year-old minor victim has leveled serious allegations against the police. She says that her brother-in-law and his brother are influential and that police officers are busy rescuing both of them. The victim alleged that the police are engaged in compromising the case at the behest of her brother-in-law. She said, my brother-in-law wants to compromise on the strength of money and the police are not arresting the accused for the lure of a few rupees. The victim has threatened to commit suicide if she does not get justice. “Anyway, the accused are threatening to kill us”, she said.

Haryana: Man booked for assaulting a woman who refused a bike ride, NCW demands probe

The Haryana Police has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against a man, who in an inebriated state allegedly attacked a woman with his helmet after she refused to sit with him on his bike.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday took cognisance of the incident seeking a time-bound investigation into the matter.

According to the police, the woman, who was returning from her office on Thursday (January 5) night around 11 pm, received several injuries after her neighbour, Kamal, beat her up with his helmet for allegedly refusing to sit on his bike in Baldev Nagar of Gurugram.

“A man named Kamal beat up a woman living in the neighbourhood with the helmet after she refused to ride with him on his bike. The woman was severely injured and was rushed to a hospital. The FIR has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manoj K, Gurugram said adding that a probe into the matter is underway.

He said that Kamal also hit an auto driver who came to rescue the woman. The entire incident was recorded on the nearby CCTV camera.

“A case has been registered against the accused Kamal under sections 323, 506, 354, 509 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” he added.

Meanwhile, the woman’s landlady alleged: “All the police officials we contacted via 112 were also drunken and misbehaved as I called them after first aid treatment to the girl.”

She has been thrashed brutally in a way that she is not even able to walk, talk, and breathe, the lady added highlighting that the accused Kamal had done the same previously as well.

Meanwhile, the NCW has taken cognizance of the matter and wrote to the Director General of Police, Haryana to ensure that the victim is provided free of cost medical treatment. It has also sought a time bound-investigation in the matter.

Assam: Former BPF MLA Hitesh Basumatary arrested for keeping illegal weapons, was allegedly attempting to float a new terror group

On Saturday, 7th January 2023, Assam police arrested former MLA Hitesh Basumatary and his two accomplices for allegedly attempting to float a terrorist group. When the police searched the former MLA Hitesh Basumatary’s home in the Kokrajhar district, they found two rifles – an AK-47 and an M16 – along with more than 100 live bullets.

The other two arrested are identified as Daorao Deshreb Narzary, Executive president of Bodoland Jatiya Saruksh Manch, and Vikram Daimary, president of Bodoland Kontark association.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh said, “The police arrested the ex-MLA of the Chapaguri assembly constituency. Police also recovered one AK series rifle with magazine, 126 rounds of AK ammunition, one M-16 rifle with magazine, and 9 rounds ammunition.”

He further said, “They were conspiring to form a new terror organization. Based on that, they were arrested. We produced Hitesh Basumatary and two others in a local court and it sent them to five-day police remand.”

When asked if they were trying to float the organization in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), he said that the police will make all the details public after questioning the three men.

The police have registered a case against them under sections 120 (B), 121, 121(A), 122, 124(A) of the IPC, sections 16, 17, 18, 18(A), 18(B), 19, 20, 21 of the UAPA and section 66 of the IT Act.

Hitesh Basumatary, a Bodoland People’s Front leader, triumphed in the 2011 Assembly elections from the Chapaguri constituency. Additionally, he held the position of Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council.

Hitesh Basumatary is a leader of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) led by Hagrama Mohilary, a former militant leader. Mohilary was the chief of the Bodo militant group Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT), but later he surrendered and formed BPF in 2005. A large number of former militants joined the party after returning to the mainstream. BPF was part of NDA and was part of the Sarbananda Sonowal led BJPgovrnment in the state. But it joined UPA ahead of the 2021 Assam assembly elections after BJP decided to dump it to form an alliance with UPPL, BPF’s rival party in the Bodo region.

Following the signing of a trilateral agreement in January 2020 by representatives of the Centre, the Assam government, and the Bodo people, including all factions of the terrorist group National Democratic Front of Bodoland, violence has decreased in the BTR.

Kolkata: Two men including a mechanical engineering student arrested for suspected links with ISIS, were allegedly radicalising youths

On 7th January 2023, the Special Task Force of the Kolkata police arrested two men with suspected ISIS links. The arrests took place at the eastern slope of Vidyasagar Sethu, Kolkata. The arrested two are identified as Mohammad Saddam and Syed Ahmed.

The two were travelling on a bike when the Special Task Force officers chased and arrested them. They were passing from the second Hooghly bridge connecting Kolkata with Howrah. Police recovered one laptop and two mobile phones from the arrested suspects.

Reportedly, the two were under the watch of security agencies for some time as it was found that they were circulating jihadi propaganda materials for organisations like ISIS. After getting information that they were going to attend a meeting, the STF team tracked them and caught them at the Vidyasagar Sethu.

Following the arrests, the police conducted searches at several places in Kolkata. Mohammad Saddam’s house at Aftabuddin Lane in Howrah and Syed Ahmed’s house located in the Golam Hossain Lane area of ​​Shibpur Thana were also searched by the police. During this search, a laptop, debit cards, a few mobile phones and documents were seized. Moreover, incriminatory content was found on the laptop.

A police officer said, “We had got a tip-off that Saddam and Ahmed were going to attend a secret meeting in the Khidirpur area. After arresting the duo, the police also conducted search operations at their residences and recovered some debit cards and electronic evidence from there. Some jihadi contents were also recovered from the laptop seized from them.”

He continued by saying that preliminary inquiry had shown that their major activities were brainwashing young people into joining the terrorist organization ISIS and securing funding to expand their network throughout the state. Ahmed and Saddam both live in the Howrah district.

“On social media, these two were promoting anti-national activities and radicalism. Their aim was to brainwash people, particularly young people in order to entice them to participate in jihadi activities. They used to disseminate footage of explosions and killings in order to stir anti-national sentiment among young people,” the police officer said. He also said that several youths seem to have fallen into their trap.

According to police, Md. Saddam is a mechanical engineering student at Aliah University in New Town. He along with Syed Ahmed used social media to brainwash youths to join militant organizations and incite them to engage in anti-national activities. They were using propaganda videos for this purpose. Security agencies suspect that some handler in the middle east is behind them. It is suspected that Saddam was in contact with IS operatives in Pakistan and West Asia.

The arrested individuals were presented at the Bankshall court in Kolkata. The court remanded these suspects to STF custody till January 19. Kolkata’s police commissioner Vineet Goyal confirmed the arrests and told that further investigation, in this case, is going on.

Apart from the interrogation of the two in custody, their electronic records are also being examined by the police to learn more about their network.

Chhattisgarh: IED weighing 25 kg recovered in Bijapur; was planted by Naxals to damage vehicles

A joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), local police and security forces recovered an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) bomb weighing 25 kg near Munda pond under the Mirtur police station area in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday.

According to the police, the bomb was planted by the Naxals in the middle of the Bechapal-Etepal road with the aim of damaging large vehicles. The team of DRG, Mirtur Police and security forces of Etepal camp went on a road patrolling and area domination on the Nelasnar-Mirtur-Gangalore road of the district on Saturday.

During the operation of road patrolling and demining, the 25-kg IED bomb planted by the Naxals in the middle of Bechapal-Etepal road near Munda pond was recovered.

The IED was connected to a command system whose switch was placed 100 metres away from the bomb.

Besides, the IED and the electric wire were kept wrapped in carbon so that they could not be detected by the metal detector. But with the alertness and vigilance of the security forces, the bomb was recovered. After that Mirtur Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) immediately neutralised the bomb.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s philanthropic NGO, Meer Foundation came forward to help the 20-year-old Delhi hit and drag case victim Anjali Singh’s family.

As per sources, Meer Foundation donated an undisclosed amount to the family of Anjali, who lost her life in a brutal hit and run that took place in Delhi’s, Kanjhawala on New Year’s night.

She was the sole breadwinner of the family consisting of her mother and siblings and the Meer foundation aims to help the family, especially the mother with her health issues while providing adequate relief to her siblings.

In the horrific incident, a 20-year-old woman, named Anjali was killed in the early hours of New Year after her scooty was hit by a car and she was reportedly dragged for over 12 kilometres under the vehicle on the city’s roads.

Seven accused in the case are now in the custody of Delhi Police.

“In the Sultanpuri case, the sixth accused Ashutosh has been arrested who had given false information to the police. Further investigation is on,” the Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Delhi Police Sagar Preet Hooda said Friday.

The other five accused in the case- Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal were arrested earlier. The five were driving the car that they borrowed from Ashutosh.

All the accused were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital on Thursday night for a medical examination. Police said that they were taken during the night as a security precaution.

A total of 18 teams of Delhi Police are investigating the case.

When the young girls refused to marry, the accused said that they have no value in Hindu society. The accused said to the victims, “Marry us and convert to Islam.”

During this, accused Wahid caught a girl very tightly and when her friend tried to save her, the other accused Aman also caught her and started doing obscene acts. After this, both the accused threatened the minors that if they did not change their religion, they would not be able to show their face to society.

The Mhow police have registered a case against the two accused for obscene acts under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, POCSO Act, and relevant sections of the IPC. The area’s Town Inspector Mahendra Singh Bhadoria said that an investigation has been started into the case. A search is on for both the accused and strict action will be taken against them.
