Uttarakhand: Shahrukh arrested for threatening to burn a girl the way Jharkhand minor was burnt if she refused to marry him, had introduced himself as Rajkumar

0

A 24-year-old youth named Shahrukh has been arrested by police in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand for harassing and threatening a girl. The accused had threatened to burn the girl to death like the recent case from Jharkhand if she refused to marry him.

Shahrukh had visited the victim’s house a year ago to install CCTV cameras at the premises. At that time he hid his real identity and introduced himself as Rajkumar. Shahrukh befriended the girl using this fake identity and even started coming to her house regularly. He even proposed marriage but at that time, the girl came to know about his real identity and refused to marry him.

The girl also found out that he has ruined the lives of many women after trapping them like this. Following this, she stopped talking to Shahrukh.

Once the girl stopped talking to him, Shahrukh started threatening her and even tried to blackmail her. For the last 2 months, he was harassing the girl and even threatened to burn her after pouring petrol on her, like the girl from Jharkhand. On September 7, Shahrukh called the girl and threatened to kill her if she didn’t come to meet him. When the girl came to meet him, he molested her and tried to force her to accompany him.

The girl raised an alarm after this and passersby gathered, helping the girl to escape. After this, the girl filed a police complaint against Shahrukh. Based on her complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections 153A, 323, 354, 354A, 354 D, 417, 420, 504, 506, and 386, and arrested the accused.

‘Country got rid of another symbol of slavery’: Says PM Modi after inaugurating statue of Netaji Bose and revamped Kartavya Path

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening inaugurated the revamped Central Vista Avenue and the Kartavya Path, which has been renamed from Rajpath. The Prime Minister also unveiled the statute of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose installed at the India Gate hexagon. The jet-black granite statue has been placed under the Grand Canopy located at the centre of the Hexagon, between India Gate and the National War Memorial.

Addressing the nation in this ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I congratulate all the countrymen who are witnessing this historic moment. We are leaving behind the past and adding new colors to the picture of the future.”

Narendra Modi said, “King’s Way which was also called Raj Path was a symbol of slavery and it has become a past now. A new history is created in the form of the Kartavya Path. I congratulate all the countrymen for getting rid of another symbol of slavery in the Amrit Kaal which is the 75th year of independence.”

He said, “Today, a huge statue of our national hero Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has also been installed near India Gate. At the time of slavery, there was a statue of the representative of the British monarchy. Today, the country has also established a modern, strong India by installing Netaji’s statue in the same place.”

Narendra Modi also shared his thoughts about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He said, “Subhash Chandra Bose was such a great man who was beyond the challenge of position and resources. His acceptance was such that the whole world considered him a leader. He had courage and self-respect. He had ideas and vision. He had leadership ability, and policies.”

PM Modi said that had the country followed the path of Netaji, India would have developed even more. He said that the nation had forgotten the legacy and ideologies of Netaji. He further said, “In the last eight years, we have taken many such decisions one after the other, which have the imprint of Netaji’s ideals and dreams. Netaji Subhash was the first Prime Minister of Akhand Bharat (United India) who hoisted the tricolor by liberating the Andamans even before 1947.”

Elaborating more on how India is getting rid of colonial symbols, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, the country has changed hundreds of laws that have been going on since the British era. The timing and date of the Indian budget, which had been following the time of the British Parliament for so many decades, has also changed. Through the National Education Policy, now the youth of the country are being liberated from the compulsion of foreign language.”

He said, “The idea of Rajpath and the design of Rajpath was a symbol of slavery. Today we have changed both its architecture and soul. The National War Memorial and the statue of Netaji and the Kartavya Path will inspire every Indian who will visit this place.”

PM Modi said, “The Kartavya Path is not just a path of bricks and stones. This is the living path to India’s democratic past and all-time ideals.”

Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who made a significant contribution to the Indian freedom movement, is being honoured with the statue at the India Gate canopy, which hosted a statue of King George V until 1968. According to an official announcement, the 28 feet tall Netaji sculpture being installed was cut from a 280 MT monolithic granite slab.

The installation of the statue of Netaji was announced by the PM on 21st January this year, and on 23rd January, on the occasion of Netaji’s birthday, a hologram statue of Bose was unveiled at the same location by the PM.

Statue of Netaji Bose at India Gate

The granite monolith was sculpted to form a monument weighing 65 MT after 26,000 man-hours of rigorous artistic effort. The statue is entirely hand-sculpted, employing both traditional and contemporary techniques. Arun Yogiraj headed the team of sculptors that created the statue. A 100-foot-long vehicle with 140 wheels was exclusively developed to transport this monolithic granite slab from Khammam, Telangana, to New Delhi.

The Canopy at the India Gate Hexagon was designed by Edwin Lutyens, and it originally housed a marble statue of King George V. The statue was retained in that place for two decades after the independence of India by the Congress government, despite demands to remove it. King George V’s statue was finally removed from India Gate in 1968, and was shifted to Coronation Park. Since then, the canopy remained empty, with various proposals to install statues of various personalities, but none of those materialised. The proposals included statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and even Indira Gandhi after her death. Finally, it took the Narendra Modi government to install Netaji’s statue at the empty canopy.

The arrival of the Prime Minister at the canopy for the installation of Netaji’s monument was preceded by traditional Manipuri Shankh Vadayam and Kerala’s Panch Vadayam and Chanda. The unveiling of Netaji’s statue was accompanied by the traditional INA hymn ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Jaa.’ On September 9, 10, and 11, a unique 10-minute Drone Show on Netaji’s life will be shown at India Gate at 8 p.m. All these functions will be free to the public.

Just like replacing Netaji’s statue with King George V’s statue marked the end of a colonial legacy, another colonial legacy was ended with the renaming of Rajpath as Kartavya Path. During British Raj, this road was known as Kings Way, and it was changed to Rajpath after Independence. Similarly, the Queen’s Way was renamed Janpath.

After unveiling the Netaji’s statue, the Prime Minister inaugurated the completely redesigned Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath, one of India’s most famous roads, which runs from the Rashtrapati Bhavan past Vijay Chowk, India Gate, and ends at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Every year on January 26, the Republic Day parade is held on this road. The renaming was done in accordance with Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day address, which advocated for the abolition of colonial symbols.

Central Vista Avenue

After inaugurating the statue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed an exhibition at Central Vista Avenue. During this time, PM Modi met the workers involved in the development of this project and interacted with them. APM Modi told the ‘Shramjeevis’ that he will invite all of those who worked on the redevelopment project of Central Vista for the 26th January Republic Day parade.

The Central Vista project involves the reconstruction of Central Vista Avenue, which runs between the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate and houses all of the union government’s significant buildings. The redesigned Kartavya Path is part of the larger central vista redevelopment project, which includes a new parliament building which is already almost complete, new secretariate buildings on both sides of Kartavya Path that will house employees of all ministries of the union govt, new residence and office for the Prime Minister, new residence for the Vice President, a central conference centre, and expansion of the national archive. For 10 central secretariate buildings, existing buildings housing various ministries and the vice-president’s residence will be demolished.

The development of central vista included the development of Kartavya Path and the surrounding region, which is usually accessible to the general public, as well as the creation of public utilities. Old trees along the path have been retained, while dead trees have been removed and new trees planted. The lawns on both sides of the path have been redeveloped and stone walkways made in the entire area, so that people don’t need to walk on the lawns.

The canals on both side of the road also have been restored, and new bridges have been built over them.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose – The unsung hero of the Indian independence struggle

As various visionaries are recognized as heroes of the Indian Freedom Struggle, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the one who left a significant legacy but is less renowned than others. Though much is known about Netaji’s role in the liberation movement, it is important to remember that it was Netaji who envisioned India that we see today.

A number of facts demonstrate Netaji’s repudiation by the mainstream torchbearer party of the Freedom movement. One of them was when Netaji was elected president of Congress in Haripura in 1938. Netaji had been campaigning against the British government’s federal concept, as outlined in the Government of India Act 1935. Unlike other sections within the party who were in favor of accepting the new compromises from the British, he had proposed a mass action for ‘Purna Swaraj.’ However, the old guard, including MK Gandhi, ignored his suggestions.

As a result, he ran for re-election to the presidency in the following annual Congress session, which would be held in Tripuri. Interestingly, Netaji defeated Gandhi’s candidate, Pattabhi Sitarammayya (1,575 to 1,376 votes). Consequently, the whole Congress working committee (CWC) resigned. Thereafter, he was shunted out of the Congress party because he had the charisma and ability to win an election against the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi.

The mystery behind Netaji’s death

On August 18, 1945, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose inexplicably disappeared when a Japanese aircraft flying him crashed in Taiwan. He is said to have died from third-degree burns. It was never proven, though.

Because his final days are unknown, there are various speculations concerning his location and what happened to him. Some allege that Netaji Bose was in Russia until at least 1968. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy further alleged that Stalin was involved in “murdering” Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who did not die in an aircraft accident in 1945. He further asserted that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was aware that Bose was being held captive in Russia before to his murder. India had requested that Russia inquire into any Bose-related information they may have, yet it was futile.

The DGP said, “As per the preliminary investigation, it has come to light that the three accused were in direct contact with Lakhbir Landa and were involved in extortion and large-scale cross-border smuggling of arms, explosives, and drugs.”

Tarn Taran SSP Ranjit Singh Dhillon said, “Following credible information, a police team from Sarhali police station conducted an operation to arrest these culprits and recovered two pistols from their possession. Later, according to the information told by Nachattar Singh during the primary interrogation, police teams also recovered an IED hidden outside Ratok village in Tarn Taran.”

The SSP said that the Landa-Rinda gang has a network of around 40-50 operatives. Of these, 25 operatives have been identified and a search operation has been launched to nab them. “Further investigation is on and further recovery of arms and explosives is expected”, he said.

Lakhbir Singh Landa (33) hails Tarn Taran, he fled to Canada in 2017. He was the one who planned the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) terror attack on the Intelligence Headquarters of Punjab Police in Mohali. An IED was also planted at his behest under the car of sub-inspector Dilbagh Singh in Amritsar. He is believed to be an associate of Pakistan-based wanted terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda.

Amritsar: Nihang Sikhs hack a man to death near Golden Temple allegedly for smoking

0

On the intervening night of September 7 and September 8, a man was hacked to death by a group of four men, including two Nihang Sikhs, outside a hotel close to the Golden Temple following an argument over smoking.

The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media. The deceased has been identified as Harmanjit Singh of the Chatiwind area. As per the reports, an argument broke out between Harmanjit and four other men, including two Nihang Sikhs, over smoking. The argument turned violent, and the man was allegedly assaulted with a sharp-edged weapon by the Nihangs, which led to his death on the spot.

In the CCTV footage, the victim was seen sitting on a bike next to an e-rikshaw when Nihangs stopped him, and they got into an argument. Within a few minutes, the argument turned violent and went into a fistfight. However, the Nihangs overpowered Harmanjit and pushed them to the side of the road, where he was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said in a statement that the accused had been identified, and one of them was arrested by the Police.

In recent times, Nihangs have made headlines for several such incidents. In April 2020, Nihangs allegedly chopped the hand of a Police officer after he stopped them. Three other Police officers were also injured.

In October 2021, Nihangs allegedly killed and mutilated a labourer for the alleged sacrilege of Sarbloh Sahib at a farmer protests site at the Kundali border, Delhi.

Reversing the Trump administration’s decision, US sanctions $450 million F-16 fleet sustainment program for Pakistan

0

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden approved $450 million in financial aid to Pakistan to sustain a fleet of F-16 fighter jets, overriding the decision taken under previous President Donald Trump. This assistance is being provided to Pakistan in order for it to deal with existing and future counter-terrorism operations, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

In 2018, Trump halted aid to Pakistan

This is the largest security assistance given to Pakistan in the last four years. Significantly, the Trump administration suspended approximately $2 billion in financial assistance to Pakistan in 2018. The US had stated then that Islamabad was not a participant in the war against terrorism.

The United States recognizes Pakistan as a counter-terrorism ally

The State Department said in a statement to the US Congress that it has decided to sanction a prospective Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Pakistan for the maintenance of F-16 fighter jets. “The US government has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale to preserve the Pakistan Air Force’s F-16 program,” a State Department spokesperson said. He further added that Pakistan is an essential counter-terrorism ally.

In an answer to a question, the official added, “Pakistan’s F-16 program is a key component of the larger US-Pakistan bilateral partnership. The F-16 fleet lets Pakistan support counterterrorism operations, and we expect Pakistan to take continuous action against all terrorist organisations.”

It is considered that the recent help given by Pakistan is a significant cause behind this softness of America. The US drone used to kill al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan flew from a Gulf country to Kabul via Pakistan. According to experts, this drone aircraft could not fly over Pakistani airspace without the permission of General Bajwa. Imran Khan had earlier opposed the operation of US drones in Pakistan, but this approval was granted to the US during Shahbaz Sharif’s reign.

Goa’s Curlies Restaurant, where Sonali Phogat was drugged and killed, to be demolished for violation of coastal zone norms

The Curlies Beach Shack restaurant in Goa, where BJP leader Sonali Phogat was found dead, will be demolished for violation of environmental norms. The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has ordered the demolition of the restaurant saying that it violates several norms including coastal regulatory zone norms, and therefore it needs to be demolished.

The restaurant had appealed against the Authority’s order at the National Green Tribunal, but the Tribunal rejected the appeal. NGT said that they “do not find any merit in the appeal and there is no ground to interfere with the impugned order” and upheld the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority’s order.

According to reports, when Goa Police visited the restaurant for the probe of the Sonali Phogat death which later was found to be a case of murder, several irregularities were found. The cops had also said that drugs were being sold at the restaurant.

Ahead of the demolition, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has ordered the closure of all commercial activities in the establishment like night club, bar and restaurant. The establishment includes the Curlies Restaurant and Night Club, and the Guest House, located at Michael Wado, Dando, Anjuna Beach, in Bardez in Goa. The restaurant is run by Edwin Nunes and Linet Nunes.

Sonali Phogat had died on August 23 after she was allegedly drugged and murdered by two of her associates at the Curlies. While police earlier had claimed it to be a case of heart attack, they later admitted she was admitted after her autopsy was done and her family members had claimed that it was a murder case. Police had said that they had mixed some obnoxious substance in drinking water and forced her to consume it. This was also captured in CCTV cameras.

On August 25, the police had arrested Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Vasi, who had accompanied Sonali Phogat to Goa on August 22. Now it has emerged that these two had killed Phogat. Later the police also arrested Edwin Nunes, owner of the restaurant, after drugs were found in the restaurant. In addition, police had also arrested two drug peddlers who are suspected of supplying drugs to Sonali Phogat’s killers.

Nunes was granted conditional bail yesterday by a Goa court. The two drug peddlers who have been arrested are Dattaprasad Gaonkar and Rama Mandrekar. Gaonkar was working as a room boy in Hotel Grand Leoney Resort in Anjuna where Phogat and her associates were staying.

Jammu and Kashmir: 20-year-old youth Yogesh Gupta dies of a heart attack while performing Shiva Stuti dance during Ganeshotsav

0

Many incidents of people having heart attacks while dancing, exercising etc are coming to light these days. In such a shocking case from Bishnah, Jammu and Kashmir, a 20-year-old artist named Yogesh Gupta died while he was dancing in a Ganesh Puja event. During the performance, he suffered a heart attack, fainted, and fell to the stage. However, people in the audience thought it was part of the act and they kept clapping throughout. His crew members then approached the stage and attempted to lift the artist. But he had died by then.

According to the report, this instance is from the village of Kothe Sainiya in the Bishnah area. A Jagran was going on in the village during Ganesh Puja. The artists that came to Jagran presented various deities to make it more devotional. During this, a Shiv Parvati dance sequence was to be performed on stage, in which Mother Parvati first seeks to please Lord Shiva with her dance, and in this, 20-year-old Yogesh Gupta, resident of Por Satwari, was performing the character of Ma Parvati.

Yogesh Gupta had a heart attack while performing on stage

Yogesh was dancing on the Shiva Stuti stage to honour Lord Shiva. During this, he suffered a heart attack, fainted, and fell to the stage. All this happened so fast that the crowd present there was clapping the whole time thinking that it was part of the play. However, when the guy portraying Shiva noticed that Parvati’s fainting moment was nowhere in the script, he attempted to lift Yogesh Gupta.

Senior journalist and anchor, Sudhir Chaudhary shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “20-year-old Jammu girl dies of a heart attack while performing on stage. Could CPR have saved her? Did lack of public awareness lead to her death?”. Journalist Sudhir Chaudhary later wrote a quoted tweet to make corrections about the dead’s name and gender.

People could not fathom what happened to Yogesh

Even though the audience did not comprehend what had happened, another artist who was to play the character of Lord Shiva appealed to the organizers to halt the DJ. He informed the organizers that this was not an act and that something wrong has happened with Yogesh. Then everyone realized what had happened, but Yogesh Gupta had died by then. Everyone was surprised to learn that after all, such a healthy artist who was simply dancing and doing a beautiful performance had left this world and hundreds of people present were unaware of it.

Perfume trader Piyush Jain gets bail after 8 months, DGGI raid at his premises had found over Rs 196 crores cash and 23 kgs of gold

0

Perfume trader Piyush Jain, who was jailed after a raid at his premises unearthed over Rs 196 crore and 23 kg of foreign gold in Kannauj and Kanpur, was finally released on bail after 254 days. Though his release was to take place two days ago, he could come out of jail on Thursday, September 8, 2022, due to a delay in the verification of documents.

After the court’s order, his wife and son submitted bonds of ten lakh each. The verification of the same was expected to complete on Tuesday.

On December 23, 2021, a team of Directorate General GST Intelligence (DGGI) and the Income Tax Department raided perfume trader Piyush Jain’s Kanpur residence in Anandpuri and a firm in Kannauj. Lucknow: Hanuman idol vandalised, accused Taufeeq Ahmed arrested, had entered temple wearing tilak

A man named Taufeeq Ahmed has been arrested for reportedly vandalising a deity’s idol at a Hindu temple in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Ahmed allegedly entered the temple premises wearing a ’tilak’ on his forehead and began vandalising the deity’s idol while screaming ‘Jai Shri Ram.’

The incident occurred at Lete Hanuman Mandir on Lucknow’s Gomti bank on Wednesday. Taufeeq Ahmed entered the temple and began shouting Jai Shri Ram before throwing stones at the idols. According to accounts, Taufeeq also tore the temple’s flag, prompting the priests to notify authorities. Two idols at the temple reportedly suffered damage.

Lucknow West DCP S Chanappa said, “A person vandalised two idols at hanuman temple in Lucknow. He was arrested immediately. Police interrogated the accused. Medical examination showed he was drunk. Stringent action has been initiated against him”

The temple priest maintains that two idols, one of Shani Dev and the other of Lord Hanuman, have been broken into pieces. Hindu groups have been closely monitoring the temple ever since this information became public. Police have been deployed at the spot to maintain normalcy in the area.

Taufeeq was so drunk, according to ADCP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, that he couldn’t even speak properly. “Taufeeq Ahmed is accused of destroying the Shani Dev idol and the temple flag. He was arrested on the scene by police. When things returned to normal in the morning, he revealed his identity during interrogation” he stated.

The man was apprehended by locals, who began beating him after the incident. Meanwhile, the temple’s president, Dr Vivek Tangri, arrived. He notified the police, who arrived on the scene and escorted the man to the police station. The ADCP said that all aspects are being investigated.

OpIndia talks to Karnataka minister Dr Ashwath Narayan: Ganesh Chaturti vs Hijab, Veer Savarkar controversy, Tipu Sultan, Praveen Nettaru, floods and more

Karnataka has been in the news for the past few months for a host of reasons. From the Hijab row to cracking down on Islamists and even political issues like the controversy surrounding Veer Savarkar and the Lingayat issue. With assembly elections set to be held in the state in 2023, the political environment is just about heating up. Opindia.com, in a freewheeling conversation with Dr Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education, IT-BT, Science and Technology, Skill Development and Livelihood, Government of Karnataka, attempts a snapshot of the pre-election mood in Karnataka and how the BJP’s first government in the south is faring on the ground.

Here are excerpts from the interaction.

Q: The Hijab row has taken Karnataka by storm ever since it erupted. How is the government dealing with it?

A: The hijab row is nothing but politics sponsored by an intellectually-impoverished Opposition and bears no connection whatsoever with the idea of education. In fact, the Karnataka High Court verdict is very clear that such differentiations among children based on religion should not exist and education should be the leveller and primary focus. The school uniform has been in vogue for decades, all over the world. Why should there suddenly be wedges created between students? Is this real secularism?

Q: Now the Supreme court is seized of the matter. Any thoughts on the future course of action?

A: We will follow whatever the Supreme Court says, as a responsible government. But even the court has castigated the students for ‘forum shopping’. The fact that their lawyer is a high-end practitioner and a former Congressman itself shows that vested interests are behind this agenda. Can students of a school afford such hot-shot lawyers? There’s something that does not add up here.

Q: Are radical Islamist organisations driving this agenda? How do you view the criticism of the Leftists against this ‘secularization of education?

A: Radical Islamists have for long been trying to bleed India with a thousand cuts. This is proved by their Ghazwa-e-Hind agenda, which is now common knowledge. I want to ask these people one question – What is secularism, in their definition? I understand it to mean respect for all faiths and equal treatment for all. What we are seeing here is the methodical imposition of one faith and ideology onto the whole nation through cleverly camouflaged methods that appear democratic.

Their real aim is to thrust upon a peaceful India a totalitarian philosophy without any scope for diversity or culture. We are not a monochromatic nation like Pakistan. We are a civilizational state and are proud of it. And to the communists, I would like to say, please refer to the dictionary definition of the word ‘commune’. It will then be clear that it is they who are communal, by wanting to paint India in just one colour and supporting religious fundamentalists. Bharat is secular through the power of its diversity – not only of its peoples, but of its states, cuisines, and Gods as well.

Q: Recently, Islamist organisations started demanding that religious studies be introduced in schools and Hijab be allowed as an official dress after the Primary Education Minister said that Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations would be allowed in schools. What’s your take on this matter?

A: First of all, let us be clear on who we are, as a people. We do not go around exploding markets and forcing others to accept our views with the sword in hand. This may be par for the course in Pakistan, but not here in India. We are a peaceful people keen on individual, collective and national growth. Our ideas are progressive and do not infringe on the personal safety or welfare of the ‘other’. Therefore, I, as a proud member of the BJP, do not see anything wrong with Ganesh Chaturthi in schools. It is an extension of our civilizational state of mind, whereas, cultures that have historically used the sword to force people into religious compliance do not deserve space in our educational institutions. It is as simple, if not constitutional, as that.

Q: Coming to the Veer Savarkar controversy, Congress seems especially inimical to the adoption or promotion of Savarkar as a freedom icon. Your thoughts?

A: Congress wants the country to celebrate only its icons of the past. They are scared of people coming to know of the contributions of others. It is apprehensive of losing political relevance if other figures also get their pride of place. And let me tell you, only Veer Savarkar knew the pains of suffering in Kaalapani or the Andaman jail. Does Siddaramaiah know of such discomfort? Siddaramaiah only knows how to eat a full meal of meat and then visit a temple in sheer disrespect.

Q: The Opposition is criticising the police for ‘highhandedness’ in the Veer Savarkar matter. Is that a legitimate viewpoint?

A: If I take pride in a particular person, it is my privilege. They take pride in Tipu Sultan, who was a ruthless killer. Is that fine? Are we supposed to elevate Tipu to the status of a demigod? Will even the Islamists be okay with that, given that we are overtly sensitive about the supremacy of God? Does the Congress want to elevate Tipu Sultan because he subjugated Hindus? Siddaramaiah should reflect upon his name. Else, he is free to call himself Sultanayyah! It will clearly draw the battle lines.

Q: Please explain the politics surrounding the Lingayat issue. Are Veerashaivas and Lingayats different, or is there a conspiracy against the community?

A: There is no difference between the Lingayats and Veerashaivas. Both are worshippers of Shiva and Basavanna, who is an incarnation of Nandishwara. The attempt to divide the community is a plan by the Congress party to destroy Hinduism and unite the minorities. Is Congress harping on the differences between Sunnis and Shias? Or, for that matter between Muslims and Christians? For them, ‘minority unity’ and ‘majority disunity’ is the goal. That’s their master key to power and public office. Siddaramaiah should remember that he lost the last elections because of such chicanery. He has even ‘regretted’ his divisive agenda, in a meeting with a seer, as per recent news reports. Such theatrics will not work. People are intelligent.

Q: What do you make of Rahul Gandhi’s recent ‘deekshe’ at a Lingayat mutt? Is it genuine or just optics?

A: The world knows Mr Rahul Gandhi as “Election Hindu”. He, on the advice of his advisors, proves that point again and again. I welcome it, it’s entertaining.

If Rahul Gandhi is so universal, then he should speak the language of Swami Vivekananda, who wrote reams about his idea of a Universal religion. But that does not seem the case. I want to ask Shri ‘Janeudhari’ whether he does his Sandhya Vandana regularly. We can thereafter come to ‘linga deekshe’.

Q: Much heat has been generated after the murder of Hindutva activist Praveen Nettaru. The BJP too has drawn heavy flak for perceived apathy in the protection of its foot soldiers. What’s your reading of the situation?

A: We are firm and united in our ideology. I seriously condemn those who convert an ideological fight into a blood fight. All karyakartas including me have stood in solidarity with Praveen and his family. His family’s pain is my pain, their grief is my grief.

Q: The Karnataka government is in the process of drafting the State Public Higher Education Institutions Bill. What are its chief aims and why is it being instituted?

A: In brief, the Bill aims to professionalise education in the state by giving institutions of higher learning complete autonomy in line with their peers in advanced nations. The role of politicians in educational administration will be eliminated and a Board comprising persons of eminence will be in place to guide these institutions. In short, we want an IIT-IIM-style of professional freedom for our institutions so they can serve the purpose for which they were originally created.

Q: With Karnataka already excelling globally in the field of software, what are your government’s further plans in matters of development?

A: The Prime Minister recently spoke of the work-from-home and hybrid concepts, and they being the future of work. Taking this forward, our government is looking at a decentralized model of development, where tier-2 and tier-3 cities will be developed to accommodate more professionals so the pressure on Bengaluru may be eased. This decentralization will also apply to the field of education, where every zilla will have an educational institute of excellence and admit local students who will study local problems and come up with local solutions. It is in line with Modi ji’s ‘Vocal for Local’ vision.

Q: What are the party’s prospects in the 2023 elections? You are a senior leader in the party – what role do you see for yourself in this election?

A: Our mission is 150+ seats in the Karnataka Assembly. We have done path-breaking development work in the state since we came back to power. We will go to the people of Karnataka with a positive development plank and I’m sure of a better victory this time. I’m at the party’s disposal and will do whatever the party tasks me with.

Q: The BJP has been traditionally weak in the Old Mysuru Region. How is a comfortable victory possible without adequate representation from that region?

I come from that region. The people there are strongly rooted in tradition and culture, and they are progressive in thinking as well. This is exactly what the BJP stands for and this election results will surprise all poll pundits.

Q: Lastly, there is a lot of criticism about the way the rains were handled in Bangalore, given that several parts saw life coming to a standstill due to water logging. What would you say about that?

A: Despite what the media would have us all believe, not all parts of Bengaluru were affected by waterlogging; most of the waterlogging has happened in lake beds where there has been rampant encroachment. However, we understand the concerns and anguish of our citizenry and our friends and partners in corporates and industry as well. This situation doesn’t just harm the bottom lines, it harms our state’s economy. We are in discussion with industry heads and decision makers across Namma Bengaluru, along with representatives across the board, from the Chief Secretary of the State Government of Karnataka to the Commissioner of the BBMP, the Commissioner of Police, and representatives from the DULT, BWSSB, BMRCL. Bengaluru is resilient and has the tenacity to overcome temporary setbacks and issues. We have received a few suggestions from the ORRCA representatives & industry experts, and these are being evaluated, as well. In a time of crisis, it is easy to criticise, it is important to focus, and above all, being able to focus on the task at hand, collaborate across, bring people together, and resolve the situation, is the reason this government was elected by the people.
