As Hindus continue to be murdered in Kashmir by Islamists, here is a reminder of how AltNews tried to dismiss the threat with its ‘fact-check’

Kashmiri Hindus have been at the crosshairs of the Islamists for several decades now, but the targeted attacks on Hindus during the last 2 months have still sent shockwaves among the minority Hindu community in the valley. The targeted attacks have spiked in the last 2 months as locals, as well as non-local Hindus, have faced one Jihadi attack after another, reminding people of the dark days of 1990.

These attacks have increased since the terror organization Lashkar-e-Islam issued a threat to the Hindu community in Kashmir in early April. The threatening letter named ‘Letter to kafirs’ said, “Leave the valley or face dire consequences”. The letter gave a final warning to ‘Kashmiri Pandits, migrants, and RSS agents’ in the valley to leave. The letter further stated that Kashmiri Hindus would be killed and sent to hell for disobeying their diktat and nobody including PM Modi or Amit Shah will be able to save them.

The chilling threatening letter reminded the beleaguered Hindu community in the valley of the infamous ‘Raliv, Galiv, Chaliv’ slogan from 1990, and came right on the heels of the targeted killing of Satish Kumar Singh in the valley. While the language of the letter, and the timing of it, made all sane people worried about the attacks against the Hindu community, the usual suspects jumped up and down to defend Islamists and dismiss it as a fake threat.

The threatening letter sent to the Hindus of Kashmir

AltNews, notorious for shielding Islamists, published a ‘fact-check’ to claim that the threat letter is fake. On flimsy grounds, AltNews tried to dismiss the threat to the minority Hindus while evidence was already mounting that the threat is very real.

To play down the chilling threat from the terrorists, AltNews relied on 5 points to try and prove that the letter was fake.

  1. The letter was unsigned
  2. Lashkar-e-Islam is ‘misspelled’
  3. The logo on the top left corner of the letter is of Jamaat-e-Dawa Pakistan
  4. A letter with identical letterhead was circulating in 2016
  5. The letter has factual inaccuracies

Maybe AltNews thought that terrorists hire people with Masters in Business Communications to write letters on their behalf, but as explained here by OpIndia, all the reasons mentioned by them for calling it fake were flimsy at best and just comical at worst.

The worst part about the whole ‘fact-check’ was that right at the start, AltNews got a confirmation from Vijay Raina, the Sarpanch of Kulgam, that the threat letter was delivered by post to the Hindus of Kashmir living in the Veervan colony of Baramullah. Despite the confirmation, Alt News tried to shield the threat-issuing terrorists by trying to dismiss it as something similar to a naughty WhatsApp forward by someone.

Time has now conducted a fact-check on these alleged fact-checkers and shown everyone just how real that threat was for the Hindu community. Teachers, Bank Managers, and even laborers in the valley, if you are a Hindu, you are carrying a bull’s eye on your forehead. The minority Hindus in the valley are rightfully living in a state of panic as they live in the same atmosphere of fear that their previous generation endured.

Malaysia: Muslims offer Namaz with a table fan, which they consider their life partner; Maulanas approach Sharia court

Muslims in Malaysia have started a weird trend of offering prayers in which they are offering Namaz with a table fan which they consider to be their life partner. People are also uploading their videos of offering Namaz with a table fan on social media. Reportedly, this trend started after there was a rumor that singles should consider a table fan their life partner and offer Namaz with it. Muftis and Maulanas in Malaysia have taken this as an act of insult to Islam, and have approached the Sharia court for action against this trend.

Datuk Idris Ahmed, Malaysia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, has appealed to the people to register a complaint to corresponding officials and religious authorities against those who are following this trend. A Mufti of Georgetown Penang has said that these people should not deliberately insult Islam, else they will be punished by the Sharia court.

According to a report by The Sun Daily, Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Salim Wan Mohamed Noori has said that if the offender is found to be deliberately mocking religion, he should be tried in Sharia court and punished accordingly. He also said that considering a fan as one’s life partner and offering Namaz with it is an insult and mockery of Islam. He added that this can hurt the sentiments of any Muslim.

Mufti Mohamed Noori further said, “The actions of these people clearly indicate that they are deliberately insulting Islam. The officials and authorities need to investigate if the offender is a sensible person or suffering from some mental disorder or something else. I hope that they will investigate this very soon and take action according to what they find. If a criminal disrespects the prayer, he is not considered Muslim and he must repent for his actions.”

Speaking on the matter, Minister Datuk Idris Ahmed said, “I would advise people to first get themselves properly educated about the religion. For this, they should take the help of some Maulavi or participate in the Namaz at some local mosque. People are using a table fan while offering Namaz. This shows that they don’t have proper knowledge of the religion.”

Practicing puritan Islam in Malaysia is not a new thing. The Ministers in Malaysia have advocated for the same even in the past. In February 2022, Malaysian deputy minister of women, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff had advised men to beat their wives to discipline them. The minister, who herself is a woman, had posted a video on her Instagram account on 12th February 2022, in which she had said that husbands should use the “physical touch approach” to punish women for unruly behavior.

US: Baptist Minister slams anti-Hindu activist Peter Friedrich over ‘death threats’ against a Hindu legislator

On Friday (June 3), Baptist Minister Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr took to Twitter to slam anti-Hindu activist Peter Friedrich for allegedly making objectionable remarks against US Representative from Illinois, Raja Krishnamoorthi.

In a series of tweets, the former Democratic leader remarked, “The days of people like Friedrich making threats against non-white people, especially because of the colour of their skin, their religious affiliation, or their country of origin must remain behind us.”

“To put it bluntly: saying ‘Nazis out, Raja must go’& ‘Death to Krishnamoorthi’ is racist, bigoted, incendiary rhetoric that does not belong in our political or civic discourse,” he further emphasised.

The Baptist Minister condemned the bigoted rhetorics of Peter Friedrich and his accomplice Junaid Ahmed, who is running for Office to represent Illinois’ 8th Congressional District.

“In the strongest possible terms I urge all candidates for elected office to use your platform to unite us, not divide us, and to refrain from using hate as a means to scoring cheap political points,” Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr concluded.

The Background of the Controversy

The matter came to light after Hindu American Foundation (HAF) alleged that Pieter Friedrich had yelled ‘Death to Raja Krishnamoorthi’ outside the office of the US Representative. In a video shared by HAF, Friedrich could be heard chanting ‘RSS Murdabad’ and ‘Krishnamoorthi Murdabad.’

HAF called upon the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and US Capitol Police to take cognisance of the threats. “Friedrich has well-known ties to a terror movement in India highlighted in this article & his repeating “Murdabad” (death to) in that context, cannot be dismissed as a joke,” the Hindu advocacy group pointed out.

It asked the Democratic Party to take note of the Hinduphobic tropes, that are smearing the political participation of hard-working Hindu Americans.

In his defence, the known anti-Hindu activist has claimed that he never chanted ‘death to Krishnamoorthi’. “I have never done this and I challenge you to prove otherwise,” he tweeted while sharing a video of Raja Krishnamoorthi.

In the video, the US Representative for Illinois’s 8th congressional district accused Pieter Friedrich of sloganeering against him outside his house, including raising chants of ‘death to Krishnamoorthi.’

While threatening the Hindu politician with defamation, he tweeted, “Raja Krishnamoorthi, please publicly retract and apologize for your slander immediately or potentially face legal consequences for defamation.”

The pro-Khalistan antecedents of Pieter Friedrich

Last year, Opindia had reported how Pieter Friedrich went from being a believer in ‘constitutional republican Christian theocracy’ to a critic of ‘Hindu fascism’. Until 2007, he was a Christian missionary activist and a majority of his early work was based on Pro-Life Christian activism.

Thereafter, he became a close associate of Bhajan Bhinder, a Khalistani ISI handler. As per a 2003 report in East Bay Express, Bhinder and his accomplice Gurtej Singh met with an undercover agent posing as a weapon dealer to purchase assault weapons and shoulder-fired missiles for the Free Khalistan movement.”

The report added, “Bhinder allegedly said the weapons would travel via yacht to Pakistan. They would then move overland by truck into India, where members of the Free Khalistan movement would receive them. Bhinder, the declaration said, would pay half of the money when he got the weapons and the other half when the shipment arrived in India.”

Pieter has been on the radar of Indian security agencies ever since 2006, when his connection to ISI operative Bhajan Singh Bhinder came to light. Around 2007, Pieter also went by another name, Pieter Flanigan.

Under this name, Pieter ran Gandhism.net, an anti-Gandhi website created to denigrate Mahatma Gandhi and his ideologies. The goal of this website was clear. It was to cast an overwhelmingly negative light on Gandhi, with accusations of racism and pedophilia being thrown at the Mahatma in every column on the website.

During 2015-2019, many articles by Pieter Friedrich in online news media websites like thecitizen.com, velivada.com, sabrangindia.in, clarionindia.net etc. were published. This was a coordinated effort in order to boost Friedrich’s credibility in India as an ‘expert’. Before this period, Friedrich’s main focus of operations was within the United States.

This period was critical and necessary for Friedrich in order to establish his credibility as a ‘South Asian Expert’.

The duo was rushed to the hospital in an injured state and is presently undergoing treatment.

Though the reason behind the attack on the shopkeeper in Rajasthan’s Baran city is not yet ascertained and the Rajasthan police have not yet issued any statement on the incident, this attack triggered an major uproar among the members of the trader federation in the city.

The traders shut down shutters. They along with members of various Hindu outfits like Baran Vypar Mandal and Vishva Hindu Parishad called for a day-long bandh to protest against the increasing criminal incidents in Baran on Thursday. They alleged that the assailants who attacked the kins of the VHP leader were from the Muslim community and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators.

During the sit-in protest at the Dharmada circle in Baran, some shopkeepers from a particular community attempted to open their shops, which enraged the Hindu protestors, resulting in a brawl between the two groups. The police intervened and resorted to lathi-charge. While there is no news of any member from the other community being hurt, a report by Zee News suggests that the police used lethal force against members of Hindu organisations and BJP leaders who were sitting on the Dharna, leaving some of them gravely injured.

Protests erupt in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan after former BJP councilor Jagdish Soni’s son killed in a brutal attack

The ruckus in Rajasthan’s Baran, incidentally, occurred a day after massive protests broke out in the city of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan after a youth named Ratan Soni was brutally attacked and murdered by some miscreants on Tuesday night. Deceased Ratan Soni was the son of former BJP councilor Jagdish Soni and was associated with the Bajrang Dal and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Kanpur violence: CM Yogi Adityanath orders identification of illegal religious structures built on roads across state in 15 days, keep plan of action ready

On Friday, taking cognizance of the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, CM Yogi Adityanath in a late-night video conference meeting directed state police to identify and report all illegal religious structures built on roads within 15 days.

According to the reports, he issued specific directions to the UP Director General of Police (DGP) and state Chief Secretary, as well as the additional chief secretary to act strictly against the religious places that have been illegally built on the roads. He asked them to identify all such religious properties within 15 days and organize a campaign in all the districts.

He also asked the authorities to keep ready the plan of action to act legally against these illegal religious places and ensure that no such religious activities are organized on the road in future. CM Yogi Adityanath also ordered the state police to take strict action against the perpetrators who created a ruckus in Kanpur while protesting against BJP leader Nupur Sharma after Friday namaz. The Muslim community yesterday had given a call for a shutdown in the area to protest against Sharma for allegedly committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammad.

Hundreds of Islamists joined the protest on June 3 and began to pelt stones after the Friday Namaz. At least six people were injured in the violence that broke out on the day when both the Prime Minister and the President of India were in the state. CM Yogi Adityanath ordered the Police to confiscate the properties of the perpetrators and use bulldozers if necessary. He said that in future, no one should dare to spoil the atmosphere in the state by spreading communal fury.

As reported earlier, the police have registered 3 FIRs in connection with the violence that erupted in Beaconganj, Kanpur, on Friday. Two FIRs have been filed by the police, while the third FIR has been filed based on the complaint received by the assaulted victims. In the FIR, 40 known people have been named as accused. Additionally, 1000 unidentified people have also been named as accused in the case.

It is important to note that the Yogi government has ordered the removal of illegal religious constructions built on roads several times in the past. In March 2021, the state home department had directed the district magistrates and divisional commissioners to remove all the religious places that encroached upon the roads. The state had said that the structures built on 1 January 2011 and after would be removed without delay and those built before the date would be translocated to private land.

Also, On June 3, 2016, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had ordered the removal and shifting of shrines encroaching on public property before January 1, 2011. Reports mention that in 2009, the Supreme Court had also given an order on the same lines. After this, the then Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government conducted a survey where 40,000 such illegal religious properties were identified.

Mob led by Islamic Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa protests after Friday Namaz, raise slogans against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, threaten to intensify protest

Islamists have been baying for the blood of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for allegedly committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammad. On June 3, when an irate Muslim mob indulged in stone-pelting and brick batting in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, several took to the streets in Bareilly after the Friday Namaz to agitate against the BJP spokesperson. Islamists held placards, raised slogans against the BJP spokesperson and demanded her immediate arrest.

According to reports, following the Friday Namaz, a Muslim crowd led by Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa spokesperson Samran Khan assembled at the Raza Chowk in the Old City of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and raised slogans against Nupur Sharma. Islamists holding placards denouncing Nupur Sharma issued an ultimatum, threatening to escalate the demonstration if no action is taken against the BJP spokesperson. The Islamists have threatened to gather at the Islamia ground on June 10, 2022, to stir up the agitation if the BJP spokesperson is not arrested until then.

Samran Khan, the spokesperson for Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa, said the BJP spokesperson insulted their Prophet, which he warned would not be accepted. Nupur Sharma’s remark, he said, had hurt minorities’ religious sentiments, and she should be punished accordingly.

On its website, Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa says, “In order to give Religious, social and economic stability to the Muslim Ummah, Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Qadri Muhad’dith Barelvi Alaihir Rahma established Jamat Raza-e-Mustafa on the 7th Rabi ul Aakhir 1339 Hijri co-inciding with 17th December 1920. One of the clear aims of this movement, is to also refute the deviant sects, and safeguard the beliefs (Aqaa’id) of the Muslims. Jamat Raza-E-Mustafa has done various glorious achievement during 1921 to 1926 AD. In 1960 Jamat Raza-E-Mustafa had came to an end. At last in October 1963 Huzoor Mufti-E-Azam Hind Alaihir Rahma has re-established this organization and followings rules and regulations were also made”.

Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan, the national leader of the Ittihad-e-Millat Council (IMC), who was also present at Raza Chowk, said that if Nupur Sharma was not arrested, the Muslim community will stage a sit-in protest in the Islamia ground on June 10. He too urged his Muslim brethren to congregate at the Islamia Ground on June 10, 2022.

Meanwhile, as soon as the Bareilly police got the information about the ruckus, they reached the spot and gained control of the situation. The police dispersed the mob after receiving a memorandum from them.

Violence erupts in Kanpur as Islamists protest against BJP leader Nupur Sharma, hundreds pelt stones at Police after Friday Namaz

It may be noted that Kanpur had also witnessed violent clashes yesterday with hundreds of Islamists pelting stones after the Friday Namaz. According to reports, the Islamists had singled out the Hindus by their names and assaulted them. The violence erupted after the Muslim community had given a call for a shutdown in the area to protest against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, and the shutdown turned violent after the Friday prayers.

Hundreds of Islamists joined the protest on June 3 and began to pelt stones after the Friday Namaz. The Police responded to the violence and lathi-charged some of the protesters. While they tried to get the situation under control, fierce stone pelting continued intermittently.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, took cognizance of the incident and directed the UP Director General of Police (DGP) and state Chief Secretary, as well as the additional chief secretary, home, to use the Gangster Act and the National Security Act (NSA) against the troublemakers, imposing the strictest sections to serve as a deterrent to others.

Islamists lead the attack on Nupur Sharma, BJP spokesperson

Following a debate on Times Now on the disputed Gyanvapi structure, propaganda website AltNews, which usually waters down crimes of Islamists, cofounder Mohammed Zubair dog-whistled an online mob against Sharma, accusing her of insulting Prophet Muhammad. He was supported by other Islamists, many of whom issued death and rape threats to her and her family.

During the debate, Nupur Sharma argued that since people are mocking the Hindu faith repeatedly, they can also mock other religions referring to Islamic beliefs. Taking that video out of context, Zubair shared it with his Twitter followers, declaring Nupur a rabid communal hatemonger and someone who can incite riots. So far, no action has been taken against Muhammad Zubair.

Karnataka: Section 144 imposed, heavy police deployed in Srirangapatna ahead of ‘Srirangapatna Chalo’ movement, liquor sale also banned

On Saturday, prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC act has been imposed in the Srirangapatna town in Karnataka’s Mandya district ahead of the ‘Srirangapatna Chalo’ rally organised by the members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal. Heavy police force has been deployed in the town and 4 check posts have been installed in the area as a precautionary security measure ahead of the programme.

According to the reports, the members of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal gave a call to march toward the Jamia mosque in Srirangapatna and perform Hindu religious puja inside the Mosque today. The Hindu organisations said that the Jamia Mosque was built by Tipu Sultan in the year 1782 after demolishing a Hanuman temple.

Reportedly, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra taking the cognizance of the event said on June 3 that every organisation has the right to present its claims peacefully and democratically but no one is allowed to take the law into their hands at any cost. “The District Police has been instructed to take all precautionary measures to maintain law and order during the ‘Srirangapatna Chalo’ drive called by VHP tomorrow”, he added.

However, the members of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal stated that they had sought permission for the march from the district authorities who failed to respond to the request. The mosque authorities have meanwhile appealed to the government to protect it.

Section 144 CrPC has been imposed for 24 hours starting from 6 pm on June 3. Dy Commissioner Mandya, Aswathi S said that the setting up of the weekly Saturday market has been postponed and the liquor sale has been banned within 5 km limits of Srirangapatna today. He also added that the Masjid road has been closed and that people will not be allowed in the masjid today. “CCTV cameras installed, a special team formed to look after suspicious movements”, he added.

Mandya SP meanwhile confirmed that prohibitory orders have been imposed by the district administration and that there’s no permission for the rally, procession or protest in Srirangapatna town panchayat limits today. “In view of this order we’ve ensured adequate bandobast in and around the town so that no untoward incident takes place”, he added.

Reports mention that a group named ‘Narendra Modi Vichar Manch’ (NMVM) last week had approached the Mandya deputy commissioner and had claimed that the Masjid-e-Ala was ‘Moodala Bagilu Anjaneya Swami temple’. It had requested the deputy commissioner of Mandya to allow them to perform prayers to Hanuman inside the said mosque.

DMK spokesperson Rajiv Gandhi calls for genocide of Tamil Brahmins, wants to adopt Periyar’s killing model: Details

On Friday (June 3), the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in Tamil Nadu courted controversy after its official spokesperson R. Rajiv Gandhi claimed that Tamil Brahmins should have been killed as per the directions of Dravidian icon Periyar.

In a contentious tweet, the DMK leader remarked, “If we Shudras had done what Periyar told us back then, we wouldn’t have had to struggle with Brahmins for justice, rights, education and equality. 3% of you (Brahmins) are still dominating some areas.”

Screengrab of the tweet by Rajiv Gandhi

His tweet, endorsing the genocide of Tamil Brahmins, comes after political commentator Sumanth Raman had shared a snippet of the Periyar’s 1973 speech in Karikudi in Tamil Nadu.

The Background of the controversy

In the said speech, the anti-Hindu activist was heard calling for the annihilation of Tamil Brahmins. Periyar had lamented how a Brahmin ‘Lord Murugan’ killed demon king ‘Soora Padman’, who supposedly said that there was no God.

“Tamil Brahmins killed him. So, now we can kill those buggers. That won’t be wrong. Maybe legally it will be wrong. That legal offence and all is humbug. We can’t be bothered that it is legally wrong. We have to come to this conclusion,” he had remarked.

Periyar had emphasised, “Wherever we see a temple, we must go inside and break all the idols inside. Wherever we find a Paapaan (slur for Tamil Brahmins), we must kill and destroy him. Brahmins have done this to us. We must avenge it.”

The Dravidian icon had suggested that a few non-Brahmins might have to die for the cause. “If one non-Brahmin Tamil dies while trying to kill one Tamil Brahmin, only 3 of us will die out of every hundred. 94% of us will still remain but Tamil Brahmins will be eliminated. We will definitely go to this level. We can take one step at a time,” Periyar had suggested.

Political commentar Sumanth Raman pointed out how the rest of India and especially the wokes do not have any idea about the hate peddled by Periyar in his lifetime.

“Those from the rest of India may want to listen to this speech. Especially wokes who have no idea of the hatred spread and the calls for genocide made then. That a genocide did not happen is thanks in large measure to Indira Gandhi, MGR & Jayalalithaa,” he tweeted.

Raman then went on to engage in bothsidesism and drew a false balance between Periyar’s 1973 speech and Hindutva.

“Tell me one reason why this speech is better than those made by some fringe Hindutva Groups today. That is why I have for long maintained that both so-called Dravidianism and Hindutva are two sides of the same coin. Hope people appreciate this better now,” Raman stated.

Periyar and his hatred towards Hindus and Hinduism

In 1953, Periyar organized agitations for the desecration of Ganesha idols. He had elaborated extensively on the motivations behind the breaking of the idols. Thousands of idols were broken on the chosen day of the agitation, which also happened to be Gautama Buddha’s birthday. A case was filed against him which was later dismissed by the Courts.

In August 1956, he was poised to lead his followers to the Marina in burning pictures of Shri Rama. In his mind, the Ramayana was a tale of war between Aryans and Dravidians where the less worthy Aryans prevailed over the righteous Dravidians. Quite obviously, Periyar’s interpretation of events had no real basis in reality.

On the day of the protest, Periyar was arrested by the Police but his followers proceeded with the madness at the Marina. Most people went home after the Police brandished their lathis.

Approximately 890 people were arrested either before or during the event. Periyar was released after two and a half hours but he declined to continue the protest following his release.

Kanpur violence: Hindus singled out by name and assaulted, CM Yogi orders police to invoke Gangster Act against rioters, FIRs registered

In the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district on May 3, Friday, Islamists had singled out the Hindus by their names and assaulted them, reports Zee News. The violence had erupted over a call by Islamists to shut down the shops in the area in protest against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for allegedly committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammad

After Friday prayers, the Muslim mob began forcing Hindus in the Beconganj district to close their shops. When they objected, the enraged mob began throwing stones at Hindus. The Islamists insisted on knowing the names of the people, and those who were Hindus were attacked.

As per the report by Zee News, a rickshaw puller passing by was stopped by the enraged Islamists and asked for his name. The rickshaw puller identified himself as Mukesh. The Islamists brutally assaulted him after learning he was a Hindu. He was struck in his head which left him critically injured. The Islamists fled leaving Mukesh in a pool of blood. The critically injured driver was later rushed to the hospital, where his condition remains critical.

CM Yogi Adityanath invokes Gangster Act against perpetrators

Yogi Adityanath has further ordered authorities to act against the perpetrators under the National Security Act (NSA). The police have been ordered to confiscate the properties of the perpetrators and use bulldozers if necessary so that, in future, no one dares to spoil the atmosphere in the state by spreading communal fury.

He informed that as of now, 18 people have been arrested and CCTV footage has been obtained, based on which the criminals would be identified and action taken against them under the Gangster Act.

Kanpur violence

On Friday, June 3, OpIndia reported how days after BJP Spokeswoman Nupur Sharma received death threats for allegedly committing ‘blasphemy’ against Prophet Muhammad, severe violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district over it. The Muslim community had given a call for a shutdown in the area to protest against Sharma, and the shutdown turned violent after the Friday prayers.

According to the reports, the members of the Muslim community clashed with the State Police and other civilians and pelted stones in the Becongunj area near Yatimkhana. Controversy erupted after Muslim leader Hayat Zafar Hashmi called for a ‘market bandh’ in protest against the alleged remarks made by Sharma last week.

Hundreds of Islamists joined the protest on June 3 and began to pelt stones after the Friday Namaz. The Police responded to the violence and lathi-charged some of the protesters. While they tried to get the situation under control, fierce stone pelting continued intermittently.

Reports mention that the Islamists also carried out a procession to protest against the BJP spokesperson and a couple of shots were also fired. At least six people have been injured in the violence.
