After the Delhi High Court stayed the release of ‘Udaipur Files’, Kanhaiya Lal’s wife, Jashoda, wrote to PM Modi requesting its release. She said the film shows the truth behind her husband's murder and must be shown to the country.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had approached the High Courts of Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra to stop the release of ‘Udaipur Files Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder.’
Notably, the killers of Kanhaiya Lal brutally beheaded him on camera. After killing him, they recorded a video remorselessly boasting about killing Kanhaiya Lal and threatening PM Modi.
According to media reports, this incident took place on Friday (May 16, 2025). Some Muslim youths had come to buy vegetables at the shop of a Hindu vegetable vendor named Satbir in Dhanmandi area of Udaipur. While buying vegetables, the customers started a quarrel over the price of lemons.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Mohammed Javed from Udaipur, Rajasthan, on July 22, 2022, 20 days after the brutal beheading of Kanhaiya Lal.
Gauhar Chishti was previously arrested by the police in 2020 for making a video of the CRPF camp, though he was let off at that time with a mere warning.
Supreme Court, while hearing a matter on alleged rising cases of mob lynching in the country, questioned the petitioners why they left out Kanhaiya Lal murder case. Kanhaiya Lal was a Hindu tailor who was lynched by two Islamists for supporting Nupur Sharma.
According to the victim, even though he gave all the details to the police, the Hanuman Chalisa angle was not mentioned in the FIR and the complaint was not even read to him. Later, when he was taken to the district police chief's office, he alleges that he was not heard there either.
