Gang-rape in Shahdol: MP government demolishes accused Shadab Usmani’s house with bulldozers

On Tuesday, March 22, the house of a gang-rape accused, Shadab Usmani, was demolished by the Madhya Pradesh government authorities on the directives of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Usmani, along with his friends, Rajesh Singh and Sonu George, gang-raped a 28-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district on Saturday last week, police said.

The victim was admitted to the hospital following the brutality meted out on her by the three accused. Unfortunately, however, the victim could not be saved as she succumbed to her injuries during her treatment.

Three days after the incident, the Madhya Pradesh government ordered the demolition of the house of the main accused, Shadab Usmani, who along with his two friends gang-raped the woman. The local police and the district administration officials on Tuesday reached Usmani’s house with a couple of bulldozers and razed down his house located in Javara locality in Shahdol district.

Talking about the demolition, Shahdol district collector Vandana Vadya said,” The house of main accused Shadab Usmani was demolished today. While two other accused involved in the case were living a rented accommodation.”

Usmani was reportedly in love with the woman for the past one-and-a-half years and had taken her to picnic on Saturday to a spot in the Kshirsagar area, around 20 km from the district headquarters Shahdol.

“After reaching Kshirsagar, Usmani called his two friends over to the spot and consumed alcohol. They then took turns to rape the woman. The victim was force-fed a poisonous substance, which led to her death in the hospital,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by IANS.

Following the incident, Usmani fled from the spot while his two friends dropped the victim outside the district hospital. On reaching the hospital, the two tried to pass it off as a case of excessive consumption of alcohol. One of the accused, the police said, even called up the family of the victim and informed them that the woman had consumed alcohol and was in critical condition.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan government apes Yogi Adityanath regime, demolishes houses of culprits to instill fear among offenders

The practice of demolishing the house of culprits in order to discourage others from committing serious offences has of late been adopted by Shivraj Singh Chouhan government after it was effectively used by Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh, where its use had dramatically brought down the crime rate in a state that had been chronically plagued with issues concerning law and order before the BJP government came to power in 2017.

With a view to engendering fear of irreparable consequences for one’s criminal inclinations, the Madhya Pradesh government, too, have aped the Yogi Adityanath regime by razing down residences of felons accused of committing serious offences.

Recently, after violence swept Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government swung into action, taking strict action against the people involved in the violence. After receiving the instructions from the government, the local district administration got into action mode and demolished the illegal homes and shops of the culprits.

Similarly, in another case of rape of a minor girl in Sheopur, the government demolished the illegal houses of the accused Mohsin, Riyaz and Sehwaj.

Nepali traders suffer heavy losses as China enforces ‘undeclared’ border blockades under the pretext of fighting COVID-19

0

While the world is overcoming the severe consequences posed as a result of COVID-19, the traders in Nepal continue to be the victims of the ‘undeclared’ Chinese blockade, incurring heavy losses. Since the spread of COVID-19, the Chinese side has imposed an ‘undeclared’ blockade disallowing smooth movement of the Nepali containers across the border and endangering the safety of Nepalis living at the border.

According to the reports, among the nine trading routes between Nepal and China, the latter has constricted the two important trading points- Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani. The country is allowing not more than two to three Nepali truckloads of goods per day. Nepali traders report that since January 2020, more than 300 trucks have been stranded at Kerung and Tatopani border points. The other routes unofficially restricted by the Chinese side include Hilsa, Nagcha, Ko Rala, Gorkha Larka, Lamabagar, Kimathanka, and Olangchung Gola.

The Nepali traders have been long protesting against the unfair, unofficial ban posed by the Chinese side that is disrupting the trade pact between the two countries. They have been demanding the removal of the undeclared blockade ensuring full-fledged smooth trade between the two countries. They have also been protesting against the excessive Chinese interference in Nepal’s internal affairs and encroachment of Nepali territory at various places along the northern border. The recent protests held were in January 2022 in Rasuwagadhi.

On January 13, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu had announced the opening of cargo transportation to Nepal and had said that the country was making efforts to overcome the trade difficulties. “We look forward to working with the Nepali side to overcome the present difficulties and make efforts to restore the economy and normal personnel exchanges”, the Embassy was quoted.

China-Nepal Agreement on trade and transit-

In May 2016, former PM KP Oli had signed a Transit and Transportation Agreement with the Chinese government, which would theoretically enable Nepal to make use of Chinese ports. The trade deal also allowed people living within 30 km on either side of the border, to travel freely by merely providing residence proof to engage in barter trade. But there has been no progress in the implementation of the deal since 2016.

The Nepali traders have also accused the Chinese side of not issuing visas to them and further not allowing them to travel on the other side of the border for trade purposes. Reports mention that the Nepali traders have since then stopped ordering new goods from China.

Trade between China and Nepal affected in numbers-

The issue of undeclared blockade had come to light earlier last year when the Nepali traders had reported that their trucks carrying clothes, cosmetics, shoes, electronics, industrial raw material had been stopped from entering China for more than sixteen months. Nearly 2000 trucks carrying goods were stranded at the border points in the pretext of COVID-19 prevention. As a result, the Chinese exports to Nepal have reduced by 3 per cent from 17.6 per cent and Nepal’s export to China have reduced by 0.4 per cent from 1.8 per cent in the span of two years. In the first six months of the current fiscal year, the exports to China have further reduced by 50 per cent.

The Chinese side has also hiked the freight charges. According to the new charge rates, the cost of transporting goods over the 26 km distance from the Chinese border point to the Nepali border point has been raised to RMB 60,000-65,000 per container. Earlier the cost of transporting goods used to be RMB 15,000-16,000.

Reports mention that the Nepali government has approached China through the Foreign Ministry to find a diplomatic resolution to the issue, but to no avail. This is ahead of the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Nepal that is scheduled from March 25 to 27. Though the visit is specifically to explore bilateral ties and discuss the BRI projects, the issue of ‘undeclared blockade’ is also likely to be talked about between the diplomats.

China: Officials penalised for allowing an unmarried couple to have 15 children in violation of the one-child policy

Eleven government officials in southern China have been penalised for permitting a couple to have 15 children over the course of two decades.

The Guangxi government claimed in a statement on Sunday that Liang Er, 77, and Lu Honglan, 47, from a poor village in Rongxian county, Guangxi autonomous region, had four boys and 11 girls between 1995 and 2016 as a result of the local government’s inefficient family planning. According to the statement, the couple is not formally recognized as husband and wife, but they have lived together and had children by common consent.

It is notable that China permitted each family to have just one kid during that phase which was later increased to two. It has thus far increased the maximum to three in response to a declining birth rate.

The Liang family rose to prominence as early as 2016 due to their unusually large number of children and the hardship they faced as a result, sparking a new wave of outrage.

One child policy in China

The Chinese government launched the one-child policy countrywide in 1980 in order to limit most Chinese families to one child apiece. The strategy was intended to fix China’s population growth rate, which the government deemed unmanageable. China formally abandoned its one-child policy in January 2016 in favour of a two-child policy.

Following the confirmation by China’s 2020 census that Chinese women gave birth to just 12 million children in 2020, down from 14.65 million in 2019, Beijing declared at the end of May 2021 that each couple would be allowed to have three children.

Other restrictions aimed at discouraging individuals from having children have also been gradually repealed. Officials from five provinces – Guangdong, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Hainan, and Fujian – were ordered in October 2017 to amend policies that allowed corporations to terminate employees who had more children.

Clip of Yogendra Yadav admitting protest was meant to oust Yogi Adityanath, BJP goes viral after SC panel says 84% farmer orgs supported farm laws: Watch

On March 21, Anil Ghanwat, one of the panellists on the Supreme Court-appointed committee on now-repealed farm laws, made the findings of the committee public. He had said in a statement that he had written to the Supreme Court to release the report on three occasions, but he could not get any response. In the report, it was mentioned 87% of the farmer unions were in favour of the three farm laws.

After the report was released, a clip of ‘andolanjivi’ Yogendra Yadav was shared by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and national spokesperson Shehzad Jai Hind. In the video, Yogendra explained how farmer protests aimed at removing BJP from power. Shehzad said, “Yogendra Yadav explaining role played by him & Rakesh Tikait. “We were preparing pitch for Opposition to take wicket (of Yogi Ji) – we made the pitch, we used heavy roller also on the pitch, but bowling was to be done by Akhilesh Yadav.” He said it is called ‘match fixing’.

The video was from a discussion that Yadav held with Dr Mukesh Kumar on YouTube news channel Satya Hindi owned by former Aam Aadmi Party member and journalist Ashutosh.

During the discussion, when Kumar asked Yadav to explain why there was no visible effect of farmer protests on the UP assembly election results, he said, “It would be too early to say there was no effect. It is true that BJP is winning despite the fact we urged people to punish the party. I think we should see the impact at a microscopic level. We should check where vote share for BJP is reduced. How many seats did the BJP lose in every region? See, farmer protest was not a player in this game. The role of farmer protest was to create a pitch in the elections.”

He further added, “We created the pitch. We ran a heavy roller on it so that ‘seamer’ and ‘fast bowler’ could get the benefit. But we were not supposed to ball in the game. Balling had to be done by Akhilesh. And if he failed to defeat Yogi Ji, do not blame the pitch creator. It is the case of balling and batting. In the end, it was their game. Yes, there must be some lack in the efforts made by farmer protests. In PM’s words, there must be some lack of efforts in our penances.”

“We have to see where we lacked. But we should not think there was no effect of farmer protests. You tell me. Before farmer protests reached their peak, was there any opposition in Uttar Pradesh? They did not even dare to stand. It was farmer protests that gave them a platform to stand. We gave them a platform to stand, but it was not our duty to assure victory for them. We were not the main players in the game,” he said.

Netizens called out andolanjivis for ruining farmers’ future

As soon as the clip went viral, several netizens called out professional protesters like Yogendra Yadav and Rakesh Tikait and blamed them for ruining the future of the farmers for their political gains.

Twitter user Shivkumar questioned Supreme Court and asked if they would consider the video clip as evidence that people like Yadav and Tikait misled the nation.

Another Twitter user Dev Gaur said there was nothing wrong with the laws. The aim was to create a negative atmosphere against BJP so that Akhilesh could take benefit from the situation. “This was the level to which people like Yogendra Yadav stooped to. Crores of farmers will face loss because these people misled them for their own benefit.”

Kaushik, a Twitter user, blamed Yadav for the death of farmers who died during protests. “Thank god that covid did not take a front seat role, else it would have been a catastrophe,” he said.

Yadav had given the same statement in a debate on NDTV on March 10 while discussing the UP Assembly Election results. He said the farmer’s movement played a vital role in building the foundation for the opposition parties to defeat BJP in UP, but the opposition parties did not play well.

He said that the entire Samyukt Kisan Morch (SKM) made a strategy prior to the Uttar Pradesh elections, and it was decided unanimously that they would ‘punish’ the BJP in the state of Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming elections. “Rakesh Tikait and I toured the entire UP. But remember, we are not the players. Talking about cricket, our work was like that of the ‘pitch roller’, we laid a conducive pitch for the fast bowlers and seamers, but bowling is not our job,” Yadav added.

Uttar Pradesh was the election of the fraudsters on Youtube: Here is how ‘liberals’, in their desperation, funded scamsters

By 10 AM on counting day, it was clear that the BJP had won Uttar Pradesh with a historic majority. It is around this time that I came across a strange tweet, posted by an employee of an organization that I have nicknamed “Bootlaundry.” He cautioned people that only a few rounds had been counted yet and that they must not jump to conclusions. He told them to wait until evening.

Just for a second, let us look at the math behind this. Yes, it is technically true that only a handful of rounds of counting had been completed. But that was already 1 crore votes counted! Could the trend really change after that? We all intuitively understand that the credibility of an opinion poll increases with sample size. So think of counting until 10 AM as an opinion poll with a sample size of 1 crore, spread across every seat in Uttar Pradesh.

What are the chances that an opinion poll like that could go wrong? Almost zero. And sure enough, it did not. At 10 AM, the Election Commission showed the BJP vote share at just above 42% and SP at 31%. By the end of the day, the BJP was at 41% and SP at 32%. The reversal could never have happened.

Now let us come back to the tweet from the Bootlaundry employee that I was referring to. Do not laugh it off as a frustrated liberal looking for straws of hope. Indeed, all through counting day, or at least till noon, you can find many tweets from liberal influencers claiming to have ground reports about SP doing much better than “Godi media” was showing. For some reason, they insisted that the BJP was paying channels to maintain the fiction of a BJP win for a few more hours.

What could the BJP possibly gain from doing something this stupid? It does not matter. Basic logic was out of consideration. Ordinary liberals were looking for straws, and their favourite online influencers were giving it to them. But why?

Because, money. As long as the influencers could keep up the fiction of SP winning, they could pick up tiny donations of Rs 50, Rs 100, or even Rs 10 from their followers by giving out teeny bits of hope. And those bits add up when you consider their subscriber bases running into hundreds of thousands. The so-called “Godi media” had nothing to gain by falsely showing a BJP lead while counting was in progress. The online influencers surely had something to gain by lying.

But why should you believe me, a BJP “bhakt,” with an alleged degree from Whatsapp University and now presumably employed by “IT cell” at the going rate of Rs 2 per tweet? But my dear liberal friends, I am writing this for you. I understand your passionate support for Akhilesh Yadav and his family, and your reverence for Rahul Gandhi and his entire dynasty. I am not asking you to give that up. I am only asking you to be smarter with your own money. I am trying to tell you not to waste your hard-earned money on online liberal scamsters who play with your emotions.

If you want to ignore me, go right ahead. I am not the target market of these liberal scamsters; you are. I saw these people scamming you and thought I would give a word of caution. It’s for you, not me.

I noticed this all through the Uttar Pradesh election. A number of people began scouring the countryside claiming, with a camera, talking to people, and claiming to show the “real picture.” Some of these people already had a large online following, especially on Youtube. Others developed a following along the way, which soon became cult-like.

You can go back and watch most of these videos even now. In retrospect, you realize that these were laughably one-sided. Some of these influencers have done hours of “ground reporting” without meeting a single person who had a good word to say about BJP. Almost literally…

Mujhe dhoonde se bhi BJP ka voter nahin mila…

This was a refrain from a highly established liberal influencer about Uttar Pradesh, a day after 2019 exit polls. The individual works for a high impact liberal portal, perhaps even the highest impact liberal portal of all. Now, why would she do that? To give hope and pick up scraps from people who were in deep despair about the exit polls.

This model has now been seized upon by many others. You probably know their names already, so I won’t take them. They stand on street corners, go to colleges, markets and more, with a camera in hand. The one common thing is that they can never find a single person who supports BJP. Their streams go viral, they raise lakhs in their fundraisers with promises of an Akhilesh Yadav wave.

During the UP election, I was quite amazed at how organized this fraud became. Some of them set up fake “news channels” like “XYZ PM news.” In the evenings, there would be well-known journalists going live on their streams, with backgrounds made to resemble the usual 9 pm news debates. The conclusion was always the same. Akhilesh is winning.

Consider their incentives. Why would these people make fools of themselves? The fact is they were not. They knew exactly what they had to say to make their streams go viral. If they said that BJP is winning, would they have got donations?

As I said, I noticed that this fraud had been completely systematized and professionalized. Leading the pack were old Congress loyalists who had been fired from big banner TV channels after 2014. They are all known faces and known names. Now they run shady websites and scam people.

To the liberals, I say this. Yes, some of the TV media favours the ruling party today, just as it always did. In fact, you have no idea how bad it used to be back in the days of Congress monopoly. But if that is a problem, these people are not the solution. Giving money to scamsters in return for false hope is not a solution. And no, you cannot compare these people to social media back in the days of 2010-2014. At that time, social media was amateurish, and almost everyone there was saying things out of conviction. Now people have figured out how to make money off social media, which has turned the medium just as fake as mainstream media.

Do you know what is funny? After the results were in, the folks at Bootlaundry held a stream to discuss the election. You should really go to Youtube and watch it. In it, the “ground reporters” can be seen admitting what people on the ground actually told them. People in UP knew just how badly the world had suffered from Covid. They were asking what UP could have done where America had failed. Why didn’t the ground reporters at Bootlaundry tell you this before? Because if they had told the truth, liberal simpletons would never have given them money.

So if you are a liberal, understand the incentives of those who are fooling you. You can venerate Akhilesh Yadav or Rahul Gandhi as much as you want. But stop giving money to scamsters on the internet. Who knows, if you get real feedback, you might be able to put together real opposition to the BJP. Ignore me at your own peril.

BBC clarifies after being called out for presenting views of politicians on ‘The Kashmir Files’ as that of common Kashmiri Hindus, does not apologise

Hours after popular Twitter user ‘The Hawk Eye’ exposed the British Broadcasting News (BBC) for presenting the critical comments of a few politically motivated individuals about ‘The Kashmir Files’ as a blanket opinion of Kashmiri Pandis on the movie, the news organisation has issued a clarification on Monday (March 21).

In a tweet posted by BBC News Hindi, it said, “BBC Hindi spoke to some people in the Jagti refugee camp in Jammu about the film ‘Kashmir Files’. We talked to them as part of our initiative to reach out to displaced Kashmiri Pandits of the Valley.”

BBC further added, “After the video went viral, it has been brought to our notice that these people also belong to two major political parties, Congress and BJP. The BBC did not speak to them as representatives of their respective parties. They do not represent the sentiments of all Kashmiri Pandits.”

Screengrab pf the tweets by BBC Hindi

The BBC, however, did not apologise for misleading its viewers into believing that its report reflected actual testimonies of aggrieved Kashmiri Pandits.

The Hawk Eye directs BBC to update its video description

In a tweet, ‘The Hawk Eye’ pointed out how the BBC was forced to issue a clarification after being exposed for its misleading narrative.

“After the propaganda video exposed & amplified by netizens, BBC issued CLARIFICATION: These ppl are politically affiliated 2. They do NOT represent entire Kashmiri Pandit community,” it tweeted.

The popular Twitter user asked the news organisation to update the description of the video posted by it on its Youtube channel.

The Background of the controversy

On March 16 this year, BBC News Hindi published an article, claiming to highlight the views of displaced Kashmiri Pandits who were relocated in the Jagti Township of Jammu.

The piece amplified the voices of two residents in the colony – Shadi Lal Pandita and Sunil Pandita, whose critical views against the release of The Kashmir Files were touted as the voice of the entire Kashmiri Pandit community settled in Jammu by BBC.

The Hawk Eye had pointed out that Sushil Pandita is a local ‘India against Corruption’ activist. While the BBC superimposed views like those of Sushil Pandita as voices of the entire displaced KP community, the Twitter handle revealed the ire he faced from the other residents living in his vicinity for his controversial views.

The BBC story also featured Shadilal Pandita who happened to be the president of the society. As reported by The Hawk Eye, Pandita is known for his anti-BJP stance and is currently leading a protest against the government for a relief demand, which is in turn supported by local Congress.

The fact remains that The Kashmir Files has been upheld as an arbitrator of the truth of the Kashmiri Hindu genocide by the global mass of the KP community itself. It is also for the first time, that ordinary Indians are standing with their Kashmiri Hindu brethren while doing everything to promote and support the film.

Delhi HC issues notice to central and state govt, Delhi police on plea for recovering damages from anti-CAA rioters who destroyed public property

On Monday, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Centre, Delhi government and the Delhi police on a plea seeking recovery of damages from persons who damaged the public properties during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the year 2020.

The notice was issued by the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla based on a PIL filed by advocate Hinu Mahajan and a law student named Amandeep Singh Gehlot. The petitioners stated that they had personally visited the various places in Delhi and were shocked and saddened to see the damages caused during the Delhi riots.

Meanwhile, Advocate Yudhvir Singh Chauhan, appearing for the petitioners also sought for setting up independent machinery for investigating the claims of damages and awarding compensation. The case has been listed for further hearing on September 21.

According to the reports, the petitioner, advocate Hinu Mahajan is also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha and had made several political parties respondents in the case. However, the court has called for the deletion of the issue and has demanded an amended memo of parties to be filed.

Violent anti-CAA protests and UP govt’s action against rioters

It is important to note that UP CM Yogi Adityanath has been very clear about his intentions from the day the riots took place in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He had warned rioters that taking the law into their hands, indulging in arson can land them into trouble. In the year 2020, the UP government had approved the ‘Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damage to Public Properties Ordinance, 2020’ thereby enabling the confiscation of properties of individuals involved in damaging property during riots in the state, including the recent anti-CAA riots.

Earlier in March 2020, the UP government had put hoardings of 57 anti-CAA vandals in prominent intersections in state capital Lucknow. The hoardings included their names, addresses, and photos of the violent protesters who damaged public property during the riots that claimed 22 lives in December last year. The rioters were asked to pay the penalty amount within a month.

The Allahabad High Court had ordered the state government to remove the hoardings, saying that there is no law backing the action of the government. The High Court had said that the posters were ‘unwarranted interference in the privacy of people’. But the Yogi government later filed a plea at the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order, saying that those vandalizing public and private property had no right to privacy. The SC then had specifically said that a strict law is needed to prevent the damage to property during protests, agitations, bandhs, hartals etc by rioters. The apex court had also ordered the videography of such incidents, and to recover damages from the rioters.

Recently, in the month of February this year, the Supreme Court made it clear to all that the government can issue fresh notices against the rioters and can re-attach the properties under the new law that was brought by the UP government.

The apex court has also directed that all the notices issued for recoveries by the district administration should be withdrawn and has allowed fresh notices to be issued under the Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act, 2020.

Kerala: 14-member Salafist family, led by Abdul Hasheem and his wife, tried to enter war-torn Yemen to ‘study Islam’, denied entry

0

A 14-member family from Kerala was sent back by the Yemen authorities after they tried to enter the war-torn country to ‘study Islam’. Reports suggest that the Yemeni border security denied entry to the family and sent them back to India. Kerala’s Special Branch officer told The New Indian Express that the family follows Salafism. It was headed by a couple from Kasaragod and Kozhikode. They came back to Kerala after being denied entry in Yemen.

The couple that led the family to Yemen has been identified as 32-years-old Abdul Hasheem of Vidyanagar, Kasaragod and his wife, who hails from Kodiyathur, Kozhikode. In the group of 14 people, apart from the couple, there were 12 close relatives, including four minors. They started their journey a month ago. All the relatives hailed from Kozhikode.

The Special Brand has sent a report on their attempted journey to the headquarters. Notably, in 2015, the Indian Embassy had evacuated the Indian citizens and some foreigners from war-hit Yemen. The Indian embassy was also shifted from Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, to Djibouti, a neighbouring country of Yemen, in the light of ongoing conflict.

The officer investigating the case told TNIE that Indians who wish to travel to Yemen need special permission from the Central Government. He further said the family reached Salalah in Oman and attempted to enter Yemen. “He said, “But they were blocked by Yemeni security at the check post and sent back.” After that, they returned via Muscat and reached back India via Kozhikode International Airport. When the investigating agency asked them about the motive of the journey, the family said they went to ‘study Islam’.

Yemen is one of the poorest countries in Asia. Owning to the ongoing insurgency and civil war, the country has been struggling for a long. However, many who want to study Islam sees Yemen as a preferred destination. Irrespective of the ongoing crisis, the Yemen Universities are still open for foreign students of religious studies.

Operation Raahat

In the year 2015, India evacuated over 4500 Indians and foreign nationals from war-hit Yemen. Late Sushma Swaraj was the foreign minister at that time. General VK Singh led the operation to evacuate the Indians from Yemen. The operation ran for two weeks and Indians were given safe passage after Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested Saudi Arabia King for the same. Every day, the war was halted for two hours and flights were allowed to facilitate the evacuation of the Indian nationals.

Parents of murdered photojournalist Danish Siddiqui to take legal action against Taliban, move International Criminal Court: Details

8 months after Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was brutally executed by the Taliban, his family members have decided to move the International Criminal Court (ICC) against his killers. Siddiqui came under the public spotlight after his images of burning Hindu pyres were used for anti-India propaganda during the second wave of Covid-19 in India.

“On Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, Danish Siddiqui’s parents Akhtar Siddiqui and Shahida Akhtar will initiate a legal action to investigate his killing and bring those responsible, including high-level commanders and leaders of the Taliban, to justice,” read a statement by his family, which was posted on Twitter by India Today journalist Geeta Mohan.

“These acts and this killing constitute not only a murder but a crime against humanity and a war crime. This was not an isolated incident,” they further added. Siddiqui’s parents had accused the Taliban of being involved in over 70,000 civilian casualties.

The petitioners will be represented in the International Criminal Court by advocate Avi Singh of Cicero Chambers. A press conference will be held on Tuesday (March 22) during which Singh will brief the media about the salient features of the petition and will reveal the names of the accused involved in the brutal murder of Danish Siddiqui.

Details of the torture inflicted by Taliban

Danish Siddiqui was killed by the Taliban on July 16, 2021 during an assignment in the war-torn country of Afghanistan. He had travelled with the Afghan National Forces to the Spin Boldak region to cover the clashes between Afghan forces and the Islamists.

A report by PTI said that the Taliban attacked the Afghan forces when they reached a customs post. The Afghan forces split up, leaving Siddiqui with three other Afghan troops. During this attack, Siddiqui and Afghan forces were hit by shrapnel, who escaped to a local mosque where they received first aid.

Soon, the Taliban got to know that the Indian journalist was taking refuge inside the mosque. The local investigation suggested that the Taliban attacked the mosque only because of Siddiqui’s presence there.

“Siddiqui was alive when the Taliban captured him. The Taliban verified Siddiqui’s identity and then executed him, as well as those with him. The commander and the remainder of his team died as they tried to rescue him,” a report in the Washington Examiner said.

It was also reported that the Islamists had mutilated his body simply because he was an Indian. Afghan Army Commander Bilal Ahmed had disclosed that the Taliban first shot Danish and then ran a car over him.

The Taliban had mowed his lifeless body with the car, displaying their hatred for Indians. The revelations by the Afghan commander came to the fore when certain sections of the “liberal-secular” media in the country were absolving the crimes of the terrorist group by claiming that the Muslim photojournalist was killed during a crossfire.
