Later he confessed to raping four minor girls. The bullet hit the knee of the accused, after which he was taken to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he is currently recuperating from his gunshot wound.

The incident happened at 12.30 am on Thursday, December 23, when the police were taking the accused named Rajani Kanta Daimary to his house in Jengorbori village in Marigaon district hours after his arrest to recover a stained undergarment of his fourth victim, said the superintendent of police of Morigaon district, Aparna N.

Daimary was arrested on the charge of raping three minor girls, and during interrogation, he confessed to raping a fourth girl too. He told the police that the undergarment of his fourth victim was lying in his house, and police took him to his house to recover the garment. But he tried to escape while on the way and was shot by police. “Since it was an important piece of evidence, we took him to his house to recover it. But while the police team was on the way, Daimary tried to flee from custody. In order to prevent his escape, the team resorted to controlled firing in which the accused was injured on his knees,” said the SP of Morigaon district, Assam.

The cops later recovered the undergarment of the fourth victim from Daimary’s house. The officer stated that they are looking for the fourth girl, who is also a minor, who was reportedly raped by the accused. The rape survivors live in the same village as the accused.

Speaking about the case, Aparna N said: “A case against the accused was lodged on Monday for allegedly raping three minor girls, aged 9, 7 and 6 years, multiple times. The last assault happened on Sunday following which families of the victims came to know about it and approached the police.”

According to police, the accused enticed the victims to his residence and raped them.

“On December 20, a case was registered at Laharighat police station against Rajani Daimary for allegedly raping three minor girls, between the age group of 6-7 years. Special Secretary Revenue, Radhey Shyam Mishra is expected to investigate the matter and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has ordered to submit the report to the government with relevant documents in the next 5-7 days.

The Indian Express had published a report claiming that after the Supreme Court’s verdict, some officials, MLAs, ministers, and relatives of the government officials purchased land in Ayodhya within a 5-km radius of the Ram Mandir site. The report said that at least 15 buyers of land around the Ram Mandir site included MLAs, bureaucrats who have or are serving in Ayodhya, and local revenue officials, or their close relatives.

These officials are either serving or had served in Ayodhya and their job was to authenticate land transactions. They were aware that in the future land will be acquired for the construction of the Ram Mandir at a high acquisition rate. Besides, acquired land will have a high commercial value also.

All the plots were purchased from Mahesh Yogi-founded Maharshi Ramayan Vidyapeeth Trust (MRVT). MRVT had purchased large tracts of land in the Barhata Manjha village and some other villages surrounding Ayodhya, within 5 km of the Ram mandir site in 1990s.

15 individuals who bought about 17 acres of land

MP Agrawal is the Divisional Commissioner of Ayodhya since November 30, 2019. His father-in-law Keshav Prasad Agrawal bought 2,530 square meters in Barhata Manjha on December 10, 2020, from MRVT Maharshi Ramayan Vidyapeeth Trust (MRVT) on payment of Rs 31 Lakh. His brother-in-law Anand Vardhan purchased 1,260 square meters in the same village on the same day from MRVT on payment of Rs 15.50 Lakh.

Purushottam Das Gupta was posted as Chief Revenue Officer of Ayodhya between July 20, 2018, and September 10, 2021. His brother-in-law Atul Gupta’s wife Tripti Gupta purchased 1,130 square meters in Barhata Manjha on October 12, 2021, on payment of Rs 21.88 Lakh from MRVT. It was purchased in a partnership with one Amar Jeet Yadav.

Mumbai Police arrests 34-year-old SSR fan from Bengaluru for threatening Aaditya Thackeray

On December 18, Mumbai Police arrested one Jaisingh Rajput from Bengaluru for threatening Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray. He was arrested by a team of cybercrime division (west region) based on technical evidence. Singh was produced before a magistrate in Bengaluru and brought to Mumbai on transit remand.

As per reports, Singh, who is a fan of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, sent threatening messages to Thackeray on December 8 over WhatsApp. Earlier, he tried calling him but could not talk to the minister. In his messages, he blamed Aaditya for the “murder” of the late actor who allegedly died of suicide last year.

In the initial messages, Singh allegedly abused Aaditya. One of the messages read, “You killed Sushant Singh Rajput…”. According to the Police, Singh tried calling the minister three times before sending the messages. He also sent death threats to Aaditya over WhatsApp.

Following the December 8 incident, a complaint was filed leading to FIR under Sections 500 (defamation), 506 (2) (if the threat is to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act against Singh.

A local court had sent Singh to Police remand till December 23. Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik alleged that it appeared there could be a connection to the organisations that murdered (Narendra) Dabholkar & (Govind) Pansare. “I too have received such threats. We’ve written for an investigation into it,” he said.

Malik further added, “I think it is a serious matter, after losing power, some organisations are behaving in this manner. Home Department will probe it and find out who is behind it. They will be nabbed and punished.”

Sushant Singh Rajput death

On June 14, 2020, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment. He allegedly committed suicide, according to the Mumbai Police. However, the case took a lot of twists and turns over time and eventually, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The investigation agency had issued a statement some time back in which they said that the investigation was underway and the death case was being probed from all angles.

French first lady says she will take legal action against false claims calling her a transgender who was ‘born a man’

The wife of the French President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Macron plans to launch legal proceedings after unfounded news circulating on social media claimed that Brigitte is a transgender woman whose name at birth was Jean-Michel Trogneux. The rumours claimed that the French first lady was born a man.

According to the false assertions, a massive scheme was devised to conceal the change in civil status.

The attacks on Brigitte come as Macron prepares to run for re-election in April.

“She has decided to initiate proceedings, it is in progress,” the lawyer for Brigitte, Jean Ennochi confirmed to the media.

The rumours reportedly originated on Facebook in March by a user calling themselves “Natacha Rey”, before spreading in the month of October, after a media outlet published a story on the alleged “mystery of Brigette Macron.” The news was subsequently shared by conspiracy theorists and within no time, the rumours spread on various social media platforms like wildfire that the first lady of France is a transgender woman. The hashtag #JeanMichelTrogneux appeared for the first time on Twitter on November 1. The hashtag has so far generated 68,300 retweets and over 174,000 likes. Brigitte now intends to file a legal complaint to sue over the disinformation.

This is not the first time Brigitte has been the target of trolls. When French President Emmanuel Macron was elected in 2017, the couple was castigated for their 25-year age gap. Furthermore, Emmanuel Macron also had to debunk false claims about his purported homosexuality during his election campaign in 2017.

More recently, the French President’s strong stance against radical Islam and in support of freedom of speech has infuriated Islamic nations like Turkey and Pakistan that have condemned France and the French President alleging Islamophobia.

Pakistan’s National Assembly had even passed a resolution demanding its government to recall their non-existent envoy from France. Muslims across the globe have been taking out protests against France including in India. India had expressed solidarity with France and condemned the attacks on French people by Islamic terrorists.

Punjab: Hindu temple in Amritsar looted, idols vandalised, police say theft, not ‘sacrilege’

0

On Wednesday (December 22), an incident of temple vandalism was reported at a Hindu temple in the Ajnala town in the Amritsar district of Punjab. Despite the vandalism of idols and temple premises, the cops have dubbed it as an act of theft.

As per reports, miscreants broke into the Sri Lakshmi Narayan Temple and took away gold, artificial jewellery, motorcycle, and cash of ₹1 lac. According to the temple priest Swami Satya Akash, his room was locked from outside by the accused. After waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning, he had to call a neighbour to unlock the door. It was then that Swami Akash found that the temple had been looted.

He informed that besides the theft of valuables, two idols were broken and the Hindu temple was ransacked. While speaking to The Times of India, he said, “They broke an iron chain and two locks. Once inside, they broke the glass door of the shrine after locking the door of the staircase leading to the first floor, where we were sleeping and the front door of a house situated right opposite the temple, so that no one could come out.

Swami Akash, who had been the priest of the Sri Lakshmi Narayan Temple for 15 years, said that it was a case of desecration. In this regard, he had filed a complaint with the police. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the Ajnala police against the unidentified miscreants under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 295 (defiling place of worship), 342 (wrongful confinement), 380 (theft), 457 (house-trespass).

Several Hindu and Sikh organisations had demanded the arrest of the accused. The Anjala police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. While speaking about the matter, DSP Jasvir Singha said, “We are examining CCTV footage of the area. We have also been using our technical experts to trace the location of the accused. Our preliminary investigation has suggested that the accused had entered the temple with a motive of theft. We are also probing the sacrilege allegation and hope to nab the accused soon.”

As per a report in TOI, SSP Rakesh Kaushal of Amritsar Rural stated that it is a case of theft and not ‘sacrilege’.

Lynching incidents in Punjab

In recent days, two brutal murders have been reported in Punjab, both on the pretext of alleged ‘sacrilege’. On December 18, a frenzied Sikh mob lynched a man within the premises of the Golden Temple complex under the allegations of sacrilege.

Within 24 hours, another incident was reported from Kapurthala where a hungry and homeless man was brutally lynched to death over similar allegations. Police have stated that there was no evidence of ‘sacrilege’ and reports reveal that the victim was looking for Rotis and had taken some food from the kitchen. While the deceased man has been booked under various charges, the people who lynched him to death are yet to be booked.

‘Aimless, uneducated women will go astray if they remain unmarried till 21 years’: Nuh Bar Association president

0

As fundamentalist and regressive forces continue to oppose the Centre’s proposal to raise the age of legal marriage for women from 18 to 21, Sajid, the president of Nuh District Bar Association said that “aimless and uneducated women” would transgress if they remain unmarried till the age of 21.

Sajid has toed the line of fundamentalist maulanas and regressive lawmakers like Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq who said that girls will get an excuse to do ‘awargi’ (to indulge in reckless, immoral behaviour) if they are not married earlier.

The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021 aims to raise the age of legal marriage for women by proposing amendments to the 2006 law. It will apply to all women from all faiths of the country, hence, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani had dubbed it as secular legislation.

The draft legislation now referred to a parliamentary panel for scrutiny proposes to amend seven personal laws – the Indian Christian Marriage Act, the Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, the Special Marriage Act, the Hindu Marriage Act, Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act and the Foreign Marriage Act.

But Sajid said that the proposed amendment can benefit only educated and career-oriented women. He contended that it would harm girls who are ‘aimless and uneducated’ and considered a ‘burden’ by parents.

Sajid said that girls and boys of this day and age are given a lot of freedom and liberty and there are high chances for girls and boys of young age to ‘deviate’.

Nuh District Bar Association president said that women who are educated and are aiming for something in their life can control such temptation to deviation. “However, there is a higher chance for a girl who is unmarried, illiterate, and has no aims to transgress,” he said.

He said that if a girl at the age of 18 has legal rights to make decisions about her life, then there is no logic behind raising their marriageable age to 21.

Meerut: Abdullah and two others gang-rape BJP Mahila Morcha leader, Police initiates probe amid communal tension

0

On December 21, a BJP Mahila Morcha leader was allegedly gang-raped by three men of a particular community at Kashiram Colony, Hapur Road, Meerut. As per a report in Amar Ujala, the woman was given a spiked drink. She was found unconscious in a park the following day. In a tweet, Meerut Police said that a case had been registered against the woman and three men from the particular community under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code at Kharkhoda Police Station. Appropriate legal action is being taken. There are chances of communal tension in the region.

The report suggests that a woman of the particular community had called the BJP leader at her house. She offered her a spiked drink. When the BJP leader fell unconscious, she called her lover Abdullah and two of his friends who gang-raped her.

The victim is the mother of three and has some marital dispute with her husband. SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary said in a statement that the medical examination of the victim had been done. A case has been filed in the matter, and Police is searching for the accused. OpIndia reached out to SSP Office. They said, “We are investigating and getting more clarity in the case.”

We will update when more details are available.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia slams CPIM MP for misrepresenting facts on airports and trying to stir north-south divide

0

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday slammed CPIM MP S Venkatesan who appeared to be stirring up the north-south divide in airports in India. The CPIM MP from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday claimed that Scindia had said that the demand for airport in Madurai in Tamil Nadu was not justified since north Indian states have only one international airport.

He further claimed that Tamil Nadu’s GST last year was higher than those collectively paid by 21 states and union territories. However, Union Minister Scindia shut up him and said that what Venkatesan was saying was gross misrepresentation of facts.

He said how some states in both north and south have more than one international airport, like Uttar Pradesh in north and Kerala in south. He further said that the decision to grant international status to airport depends on several factors like passenger demand and also proximity to other international airports in the state.

Scindia added that the union government is open to proposals for new airports in any part of the country.

He further clarified that Madurai already operates international flights and hence the communist MP’s insistence to accord the airport international status was incomprehensible. “Contrary to the allegation, I had offered I had offered @MoCA_GoI ’s support in increasing the number of international flights for Madurai by requesting Indian carriers to fly abroad from the city,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the day seven MPs from the South had given a signed representation to Union Minister Scindia to develop the Madurai Airport. It was signed by Su Venkatesan (Madurai), S Manickam Tagore (Virudhunagar), Karthi P Chidambaram (Sivagangai), K Navaskani (Ramanathapuram), P Velusamy (Dindigul), Dhanush M Kumar (Tensaki) and V Vijay Vasanth (Kanyakumari). One of the demands was to make the airport operational 24×7 and also to declare it international airport.

‘You reap what you sow’: Captain Amarinder Singh takes a dig at Harish Rawat’s disappointment at Congress leadership

On December 22, former Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, took a dig at Congress leader Harish Rawat after putting up a series of cryptic tweets. Singh said, “You reap what you sow. All the best for your future endeavours (if there are any) Harish Rawat ji.”

Earlier, through a series of tweets, Rawat had expressed his agony against the Congress leadership ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

Rawat’s ‘pain-filled’ cryptic tweets

In a series of cryptic tweets, Harish Rawat expressed his displeasure towards the party affairs in the state. The tweets seemed to be directed towards the Congress leadership. He said, “Representatives of those who have ordered to swim are tying up my hands and legs. Thought had been occurring to me that it’s enough now, you have swum enough, and now it is time to rest. I am in a dilemma, perhaps the new year will show me a path.”

He further added, “Isn’t it a strange thing. Have to swim across the sea of the electoral battle, but the organisational structure instead of lending a helping hand is obstructing and playing a negative role at most places.”

In the tweets published in Hindi, Rawat sought guidance from Bhagwan Kedarnath to handle the situation.

Rawat vs Amarinder during Punjab Congress crisis

It is noteworthy that Rawat, as Punjab Congress in-charge, played a vital role during the Punjab Congress crisis that ultimately led to Singh’s resignation. When the crisis was at its peak, initially, Rawat has supported Amarinder against Navjot Singh Sidhu. However, he shifted his goals as soon as the party decided to support Sidhu. At that time, Rawat started questioning Amarinder’s achievements as Chief Minister of the state, to appease Navjot Sidhu and his faction.

Amarinder was forced to step down from the post of Chief Minister without completing the tenure of five years. The humiliation Singh faced led to him leaving the party and forming his own party. Singh is all set to form an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Assembly elections in Punjab.
