Lalu Yadav snubs Congress after it announces it is no longer part of Mahagathbandhan, calls party’s Bihar incharge ‘low IQ’

The former Bihar chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday snubbed the Congress after Congress’ Bihar in-charge Bhakta Charan Das announced his party was no more part of RJD led grand alliance.

“What is Congress’ alliance? Would we have left everything to Congress for a loss? For losing of deposits?,” Lalu told the media in Delhi. He dismissed the Congress and called the party’s Bihar incharge Bhakta Charan Das a man of low IQ.

The Congress was annoyed after the RJD announced candidates for Kusheshwar Asthan and Tarapur assembly seats of Bihar assembly where the by-poll is scheduled on October 30. Congress alleged the RJD for breaching the canon of alliance and said that RJD even fielded the candidate for Kusheshwar Asthan – a seat which the Congress had contested in the 2020 assembly election under the seat-sharing pact. However, the Congress had lost this seat.

In the 2020 assembly poll Shashi Bhushan Hazari (JD-U) had defeated Ashoka Kumar of the Congress in Kusheshwar Asthan whereas Mewalal Choudhary (JD-U) had defeated RJD’s Divya Prakash from Tarapur. Both seats fell vacant following their death.

On Friday, Bhakat Charan Das announced the exit of the Congress from the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) stating that the party will contest both seats. He even went on to say that the Congress will contest all 40 parliamentary seats in Bihar in 2024 alone.

The daily brickbats between leaders of the Congress and RJD have charged up the political atmosphere of Bihar leading one to believe the grand alliance has finally collapsed and friends have turned into foes.

Former JNU student Kanhaiya Kumar who recently joined the Congress has reached Bihar along with Jignesh Mevani and Hardik Patel to campaign for the by-poll. Kanhaiya Kumar who held a press conference slammed the RJD and its senior party leader Dr Manoj Jha who had criticized Bhakta Charan Das. Kanhaiya Kumar sharply reacted that Manoj Jha should ask his master (Lalu Prasad) if he did not who was Bhakta Charan Das.

But the poll strategists of BJP and JD-U in Bihar are keenly watching the war of words. “I have a feeling that they (Congress RJD) are trying to make us believe that they are actually fighting,” said Sanjay Kumar Singh, a farmer and BJP worker from Kusheshwar Asthan. Political analysts believe it is deliberate pre-poll posturing to confuse voters and to divide especially the upper caste voters of the NDA.

“There is nothing straight in the politics of Bihar. Such bickering is often staged to confuse voters. The upper caste voters generally stay away from the RJD. There may be traditional NDA voters from the upper caste who may be disgruntled with the NDA. In such a situation the Congress will be an option for them,” said Patna-based political analyst Santosh Kumar Singh.

‘We are Muslims, we took birth to destroy idols’: Video of Bangladeshi cleric calling for the destruction of idols goes viral

Amidst the ongoing violence against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh by radical Islamists, an undated video of a Muslim cleric calling for the destruction of idols has gone viral on social media.

The contentious video was shared on Twitter by a user named NilSunil (@trunills) on Saturday (October 22). The cleric, allegedly from Bangladesh, was heard as saying, “We are Muslims, we took birth to destroy idols and not build them. Cowards, I will not hang pictures or idols with these hands of mine. You must remember that I come from a community where the ideology of destroying idols runs in our blood. It is mixed in our skin.”

The video contained the watermark of an Islamist Youtube channel named ‘Tawhid Media’, which boasts of 1.54 lakh subscribers. From its Facebook page mentioned in the YouTube channel, it can be concluded it is based in Bangladesh.

OpIndia found multiple videos of the cleric, who is known as ‘Abdur Razzak Bin Yousuf’. On searching further with keywords such as ‘idols/murti (মুর্তি)’, we stumbled upon a video that was uploaded on June 6, 2016. The said video, which is about 7 minutes long, contained the snippet of the above clip at the very start. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the video is at least 5 years old.

(Video Courtesy: Youtube/ All Quaraner Path)

However, the content of the video is disturbing and gives us a glimpse of the vitriolic mindset of the radical Islamists who recently desecrated Hindu temples, killed ‘idol worshippers’ and vandalised their homes.

According to information available online, Abdur Razzak Bin Yousuf was born in northern Bangladesh, and he had obtained higher education in Islamic studies in India. He completed the Daura Hadith twice, first from Khanpur in Malda district of West Bengal and for the second time from Darul Uloom Munathbhanjan in Uttar Pradesh. At had worked as a headmaster in a Madrasa, and had appeared on Zakir Hussain’s Peace TV Bangla channel multiple times.

The Maulana known for his anti-Hindu keeps visiting India to give speeches. He had visited West Bengal in 2018 to address meetings at various places in Malda, Murshidabad, Howrah etc in the state.

Temples attacked, Hindu houses destroyed by radical Islamists in Bangladesh

The recent attacks (October 13- present) happened over the alleged incident of ‘sacrilege’ at a Puja Pandal. However, police found that the man who triggered communal violence against Hindus by placing Quran at the Durga Puja venue was Iqbal Hossain, a Muslim. The Hindu community had insisted vehemently that nobody among them had placed the Quran at the Puja Pandal and the incident has been a deliberate plan to attack the Hindu community.

For over five days, houses and temples of the Hindu community in Bangladesh have been under the attack of radical Islamists. It started on October 12 when multiple incidents of idol vandalism took place ahead of Puja. On Sunday, Islamic extremists vandalized the Durga idol of Sri Shamshaneshwar Shiva Vigraha Mandir in the Firingibazar area in Chittagong, Bangladesh. On October 14, it was reported that several other Puja pandals were vandalized.

Videos of broken idols, demolished pandals and Moorti of Maa Durga being thrown in a pond emerged on social media platforms along with other videos of attacks on Hindus. On October 16, the ISKCON temple was attacked by a 400-500 strong Muslim mob. On October 17 and October 18, the attacks continued, and houses of Hindus were vandalized. Many were reported injured, and some reported dead after the attacks. Again, a 200-year-old Jagannath temple in Noakhali was targeted the Hindu temple by Islamists before offering Jumma Namaz on Friday (October 22).

Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra celebrates supporter calling PM Modi ‘b*@#***d’, a woman-centric abuse

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Sunday celebrated the fact that one of her supporters had abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi in vile language while she was campaigning for the Shantipur by-election.

Mahua Moitra said that an old man, halfway through his bath, rushed out to meet her and said, “LPG hazaar taka- ei b@#**d Modi ke hatao!” It roughly translates to, “LPG gas costs 1000 rupees, get rid of b@#**d Modi”.

Source: Mahua Moitra/Twitter

While the Trinamool MP did not explicitly state what the abuse was, one can clearly decipher that it is a woman-centric abuse related to sisters.

Mahua Moitra thought the abuse was “priceless” and considered it as evidence that BJP’s days in power were numbered. The comment attracted the condemnation of people from social media.

Others said that if such words were used by a BJP leader, then the entire opposition and media would have caused an uproar.

This is not the first time that the Trinamool MP has crossed the line with regards to people she disagrees with.

During a previous debate with Arnab Goswami, she had showed the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief the middle finger. On another occasion, she was accused of assaulting a constable at the Silchar Airport in Assam.

Her antics on Twitter have earned her great notoriety as well. She had once called Brahmins ‘chotiwala rakshasas’.

Ahead of India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match, app Careem makes ‘fantastic tea’ jibe in reference to Balakot air strikes

A day before the high stakes India vs Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match, Careem Pakistan made the ‘fantastic tea’ jibe on Zomato’s ‘burger and pizze’ joke.

On Saturday, Zomato tweeted to Pakistan Cricket Board that the food delivery app based from India is just a DM away if they want to order ‘burger and pizze’.

The ‘burger and pizze’ was with reference to the viral clip of Pakistani cricket fan who was extremely disappointed over Pakistan’s loss to India during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Describing how out of shape the Pakistani players were in the match against India, the fan went on to express his anger that the Pakistani cricket team was busy eating pizza and burger instead of focusing on game.

This tweet by Zomato triggered a lot of Pakistanis, who didn’t really want to lose before actually losing the match tonight.

Amongst others, Dubai-based app Careem, which also operates out of Pakistan, took to Twitter to respond with the ‘fantastic tea’ jibe.

Careem said that they are delivering free burgers and pizza to the Pakistan Cricket Board long with some ‘fantastic tea’ for Zomato, or rather Indians.

‘Fantastic tea’ is reference to the statement given by Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthman while in Pakistan captivity following the Balakot Air Strikes. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, in an encounter with the intruding Pakistan fighter jets, had shot down a Pakistan F-16 jet with a missile fired from his MiG-21 Bison in aerial takedown aftermath of India’s non-military airstrikes on terror sites in Balakot, Pakistan.

On 27th February, Abhinandan flew a MiG-21 after an intrusion by Pakistan. In the dogfight that ensued, he crossed into Pakistan air space. While his aircraft was hit by a missile, he ejected safely but in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, about 7 kms away from Line of Control. He was taken into custody by Pakistan’s armed forces and images of him being beaten up badly had also been shared on social media. In one of the videos, which was clearly recorded after he was tortured, he said that the ‘tea’ served to him by Pakistani officers was ‘fantastic’.

The non-military airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan were done following the February 14, 2019 terror attack in Pulwama by suicide bomber Adil Ahmed Dhar which killed 40 CRPF soldiers.

Pakistan has time and again resorted to mocking the Balakot airstrikes and their perverse obsession with Wing Commander Abhinandan.

Their unhealthy obsession with Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman can also be seen through the responses given by Pakistanis to Zomato as well.

Which is why it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when PM Modi gave ‘abhinandan’ (congratulations) to Indians after winning 2019 elections, Pakistanis went crazy and thought it was about Wing Commander Abhinandan instead.

Assam: Muslim man arrested for marrying and looting Hindu woman using fake Hindu identity, police call it a case of Love Jihad

0

A Muslim man has been arrested in the Hojai district of Assam for marrying a woman by faking his identity pretending to be a Hindu. The man named Jasimuddin from Nakhuti in Hojai district had met a Hindu woman in Tamil Nadu who is from Simen Chapari in Dhemaji district in Assam, where he had introduced himself as a Hindu and married her in a temple. Both were working in Tamil Nadu where they had met each other.

According to reports, after staying with the woman for some time, Jasimuddin robbed the woman of her money and jewellery and fled to his home in Hojai District of Assam. After he went missing with her money and jewellery, the woman also returned to Assam and filed a case against him with the police.

The woman took the help of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and filed the written complaint to the Hojai SP against the man. Reportedly the woman visited Doboka, Assam where she learned the details about her husband, including his real identity. The Viswa Hindu Parishad unit of the Hojai district also helped the woman in the case.

The woman informed that the man had concealed his real religious identity and posed as a Hindu when marrying her. She also accused the man of mental and physical torture, including forcefully aborting their unborn child.

After the case was registered against the man at the Lumding Police Station, a police team led by the Hojai Superintendent of Police, Barun Purkayastha, arrested the man on Wednesday night and presented him before a court on Thursday.

The officer-in-charge at the Lumding police station stated that it was a case of Love Jihad and said, “It is a case of ‘love jihad’ as a man of one faith pretended to be of another to marry the woman”. He also said that further investigation was underway.

Earlier this month, a similar case was reported in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district where FIR was filed by the police against Kareem (32) who posed as Karan Jadhav to lure a Hindu woman. The victim was a 22-year-old woman in her second year of graduation from a college in Pansemal town. Kareem had lured the woman and took her to Indore where he sexually assaulted the victim for 11 days.

Pro AAP blogger fondly recalls old India where his friend used to cover photos of Hindu Gods for him to offer Namaz, gets slammed

On Saturday (October 23), pro-AAP blogger Rifat Jawaid courted controversy after he claimed that his Hindu friend used to cover up the image of deities in a display of ‘secularism’. Jawaid is also the founder of the propaganda website, Janta ka Reporter.

In a tweet, Jawid wrote, “As (a) university student in Kolkata, I often studied with my friend Rajesh at his house in Bara Bazar. His grandfather was (an) RSS worker.” He then went on to claim that his Hindu friend would conceal the imagery of Hindu deities to accommodate his Muslim Faith. Jawaid lamented that the ‘new India’ under the Modi government has become such that no Hindu is willing to act like his apologetic friend.

Screengrab of the tweet by Rifat Jawaid

The pro-AAP blogger alleged, “But they always encouraged me to offer my namaz at their place by even covering photos of their deities. This new India is beyond recognition.” Rifat Jawaid was miffed at the fact that in ‘new India’, there are no ‘self-loathing’ Hindu men who are going to disrespect their own Faith, resort to appeasement in a bid to accommodate the Namaz of a Muslim friend.

Netizens quick blogger, ask whether he reciprocated the same behaviour

While the ‘Janta ka Reporter’ founder projected the alleged behaviour of his friend Rajesh as an example of ‘tolerance and secularism’, netizens were quick to teach him a lesson. Popular Twitter user (@BefittingFacts) asked, “Why he covered photos of deities? Were you uncomfortable?”

Another Twitter user pointed, “You allowing them to cover Murtis shows how intolerant you are towards Murti pujas.”

Another user asked, “Will you allow the same Rajesh to recite Hanuman Chalisa in your house?”

“Why would anyone cover their deities ?? And you being ‘secular’ did you invite Rajesh to offer Navratri Pooja at your home ??” asked another curious Twitter user.

Rifat Jawaid had earlier targeted Naseeruddin Shah for condemning celebration of Taliban

Earlier Rifat Jawaid had slammed Naseeruddin Shah for condemning some Indian Muslims for celebrating the victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The pro-AAP blogger had advised the actor to stick to his films and steer clear of topics he did not know. Calling Naseeruddin Shah a “non-practising” Muslim, Jawaid attacked the veteran actor for demanding religious reforms in Islam. “I wish he had first practised Islam before coming up with this appalling suggestion,” Rifat Jawaid said in his Twitter post.

Shoaib Akhtar and the two-nation theory: It’s not some stupid cricketer’s comment but a statement of fact

Shoaib Akhtar at a talk show on Aaj Tak declared that he believed in the two-nation theory. The comment came after fellow panelist Harbhajan Singh made a ‘we are one’ comment about India and Pakistan. During the discussion, the Indian spinner said that relationship between cricketers of the two countries are hindered when someone insults India and the Indian Flag.

The two-nation theory was first promulgated by AMU founder Syed Ahmad Khan. According to the theory, Hindus and Muslims comprise of two entirely separate nations and cannot live together in a single country. The theory was responsible for the partition of the country and had widespread acceptance among the Muslim intelligentsia of the time.

While Indians, by and large, would find the comment by Shoaib Akhtar shocking, the fact of the matter is that it is the foundational truth of Pakistan. The very identity of Pakistan revolves around the two-nation theory, it was formed precisely because Indian Muslims at the time believed that they could not coexist with Hindus in a single country.

Since then, it has become taboo for Muslim politicians in India to espouse the theory in its entirety, and ‘secular’ political parties such as the Congress attempt to blame Hindus such as Veer Savarkar for the formulation of the theory. Nevertheless, it is a matter of historical record that the idea was first propagated by Syed Ahmad Khan and consequently, gained the support of the Muslim intelligentsia of the time.

What BR Ambedkar said about Pakistan

Intellectuals such as BR Ambedkar were of the opinion that the distinction made in the two-nation theory is very real due to the exclusivist nature of Islam itself. Ambedkar had written in his book ‘Pakistan or Partition of India’, “Hinduism is said to divide people and in contrast, Islam is said to bind people together. This is only a half-truth. For Islam divides as inexorably as it binds. Islam is a close corporation and the distinction that it makes between Muslims and non-Muslims is a very real, very positive and very alienating distinction. The brotherhood of Islam is not the universal brotherhood of man. It is a brotherhood of Muslims for Muslims only. There is a fraternity, but its benefit is confined to those within that corporation. For those who are outside the corporation, there is nothing but contempt and enmity.”

Ambedkar has written elsewhere, “Among the tenets, one that calls for notice is the tenet of Islam which says that in a country which is not under Muslim rule, wherever there is a conflict between Muslim law and the law of the land, the former must prevail over the latter, and a Muslim will be justified in obeying the Muslim law and defying the law of the landThe only allegiance a Musalman, whether civilian or soldier, whether living under a Muslim or under a non-Muslim administration, is commanded by the Koran to acknowledge is his allegiance to God, to His Prophet and to those in authority from among the Musalmans…”

On another occasion, he wrote, “According to Muslim Canon Law, the world is divided into two camps, Dar-ul-lslam (abode of Islam), and Dar-ul-Harb (abode of war). A country is Dar-ul-Islam when it is ruled by Muslims. A country is Dar-ul-Harb when Muslims only reside in it but are not rulers of it. That being the Canon Law of the Muslims, India cannot be the common motherland of the Hindus and the Musalmans. It can be the land of the Musalmans—but it cannot be the land of the ‘Hindus and the Musalmans living as equals.’ Further, it can be the land of the Musalmans only when it is governed by the Muslims. The moment the land becomes subject to the authority of a non-Muslim power, it ceases to be the land of the Muslims. Instead of being Dar-ul-lslam, it becomes Dar-ul-Harb.”

Karl Marx on Islam

Karl Marx, the father of Communism so to speak, had remarked upon the exclusivist nature of Islam in the middle of the 19th century itself. He had said, “The Koran and the Mussulman legislation emanating from it reduce the geography and ethnography of the various people to the simple and convenient distinction of two nations and of two countries; those of the Faithful and of the Infidels. The Infidel is “harby,” i.e. the enemy. Islamism proscribes the nation of the Infidels, constituting a state of permanent hostility between the Mussulman and the unbeliever.”

What Shoaib Akhtar said is mainstream belief

Thus, what Shoaib Akhtar told Harbhajan Singh during the talk show is a mainstream belief among Pakistanis and even Islamists in India. The reason why Jammu and Kashmir had an autonomous stature for decades after independence was primarily due to the fact that it was the only state in India with a Muslim majority population.

Islamists in India regularly make comments that rekindle the flames that remind one of the authenticity of the two-nation theory. While ‘secular’ intellectuals make bizarre arguments to deflect attention from it, the reality is that Indian politicians at the time too accepted the truth of the theory when they accepted partition and the creation of India.

Anti-drug laws to farm laws to UAPA: Are liberals undermining the Indian state by calling everything ‘draconian’?

Here for example is Shekhar Gupta, writing today in ThePrint:

It is so unique, draconian, impractical, ineffective, exploitative and prone to misuse that to use the familiar description for laws would be an insult to the ass.

So many adjectives in one sentence. What would make a veteran journalist such as Shekhar Gupta to abandon all the basic rules of good writing, not to mention those of decency?

Shekhar Gupta is writing here about the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. A law which has been around since 1985 but whose name most Indians would never have heard of until last month. Who knew that this law has always been such an existential threat to the Republic? And therefore, all of a sudden, it is time for all of us to panic. The headline of Shekhar’s article is no less alarmist: NDPS is a weapon vengeful state could use on you or your kids.

Did somebody say draconian law? Have you noticed how every law is ‘draconian’ these days? Everything is draconian, everything is genocide.

Consider this. There is the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, or UAPA. Since 2014, there has been no end to the laments about just how draconian this law is. Which is weird, because public records show that it was enacted all the way in 1967.

What about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)? Draconian. What about the National Register of Citizens (NRC), first promised by Rajiv Gandhi as part of the Assam Accord? Also draconian. What about the three new agricultural laws passed by the Modi government? All draconian.

There have been anti-cow slaughter laws in many Indian states since the 1950s. But what about cow protection laws enacted by BJP governments in some states? All draconian. The first anti-conversion laws in India appeared in the 1960s. But if a BJP government enacts any such law today, it is draconian.

You can disagree with this or that provision in some law, but you can’t miss the pattern of exaggeration here. The 2002 riots in Gujarat were among the few in India to be ever described as a ‘genocide’ or a ‘pogrom.’ Did anyone refer to what happened under Rajiv Gandhi as a pogrom? Yes they did, you are probably thinking. That is because you are probably thinking only about the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. Did they ever talk about the Bhagalpur riots of 1989? Some 1000 people perished in those riots. And unlike the Gujarat riots, nobody knows exactly how many. There has never been a single conviction and nobody knows the name of the Chief Minister of Bihar under whom those riots happened.

Even to this day, all media descriptions of the Gujarat riots deliberately leave out the mention of the Godhra carnage. Or worse, they plant conspiracy theories about who was behind the carnage, despite the fact that the culprits have been definitively convicted by the High Court years ago.

Why? Because acknowledging the Godhra carnage would go against the narrative they want. Compare to “farmer leader” Rakesh Tikait sitting at the Press Club some days ago, coolly dismissing the lynching of 3 BJP workers at Lakhimpur Kheri as a natural reaction. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha then proceeded to suspend Yogendra Yadav for a month because he dared to visit the family of one of the BJP workers who had been lynched. Wonder who is draconian here, and who are the humanitarians.

The exaggerations hit an all time high last year, when liberals demanded foreign intervention against the Indian government for using water cannons to push back “farmer protesters” from the barricades. In fact, they routinely use water cannons in democratic countries around the world. They are used every week in India somewhere or the other. But in the hands of Modi government, the water cannon was suddenly an instrument for violating human rights.

You can argue about whether the state should be using water cannons. You can argue about whether we need a law such as UAPA. But you cannot miss the fact that our ‘civil society’ began making an issue out of this only after 2014.

And don’t forget the judicial system. Every common person in India knows that you cannot commit contempt of court. But that’s only because they are common people who have to stay within their limits. All of a sudden, you can pick up any newspaper or turn on any TV channel to see that contempt of court is rampant. Why? Because the most privileged in our country are not getting bail on time, preferably over the phone. As much as 67 percent of India’s prison population consists of under-trials. There are 4.5 crore cases pending in Indian courts. The Indian judicial system is a mess. But now it is okay to say that. What changed?

You have to suspect whether the real problem here is that liberals are having difficulty conceding the legitimacy of the Indian state, ever since the people chose Narendra Modi. And quite literally so. Soon after the 2014 election, you might remember a wave of liberal outrage against our first past the post voting system. How dare Modi come to power with 31% of the vote? What about the other 69%? After 2019, how dare Modi form a government with 38% of the vote? What about the other 62%?

Now, Modi did not choose our voting system. Modi did not make Sonia Gandhi come to power in 2004 with a mere 26% of the vote. In fact, Modi’s 31% in 2014 is the highest for any ruling party since 1991. Since its birth, the Indian Republic has used the first past the post voting system. Three generations of the Nehru dynasty have won the PM post and have been awarded Bharat Ratnas under this system. But that was different then, because it wasn’t Modi. Because it is BJP & Modi now, suddenly it is all bad.

It is all bad. The anti-terror laws, the anti-drug laws, the citizenship laws, the agricultural laws, everything. The first past the post voting system is bad. And water cannons are a human rights violation.

This pattern of undermining the Indian state extends beyond drug offenses, sedition, or CAA or NRC. What about someone who was convicted in the Mumbai serial blasts of 1993? Do you remember the headline “And they hanged Yakub“?

What is the end goal here, if I may so ask. If you reject everything from anti-drug laws to the voting system to the conviction of terrorists by the Supreme Court, what is left? Are you advocating for anarchy? Please clarify this. Because I assure you that it is not funny at all.

Karnataka: Hindu man killed, body dumped in farm well, for loving a Muslim woman, girl’s brother, uncle detained

0

A case of alleged honour killing has come to light in Vijayapura, Karnataka. A 34-year-old man, identified as Ravi Nimbaragi, was found dead on October 21. He had gone missing under suspicious circumstances, and police sources suspected he became a victim of honour killing as he was in love with a Muslim woman.

Ravi was a resident of Balaganura in Alameda taluka. Police believed that he was hacked to death in front of his lover. The woman’s family allegedly took his body with them. It was found dumped in a farm well on October 23. Initial reports suggest that he was strangulated. The dead body was later thrown in the farm well.

Ravi’s parents complained to the Alameda police station about their son going missing under mysterious circumstances. During the preliminary investigation, police found out that the girl’s family and relatives had disappeared.

According to a report in The News Minute, the woman who was having an affair with Ravi had approached Police on October 21 and informed the police that Ravi’s life was in danger. The police initially detained her uncle and brother on October 22. They were arrested after his dead body was found. The woman has been shifted to a government facility, Santwana Kendra.

HD Anandkumar, District Superintendent of Police, said in a statement that Ravi and the woman were in a relationship for the past four years. The parents of the woman were against the relationship, and they had warned them against it. He said, “The family of the woman had objected to their interfaith relationship, and that is why he was murdered according to the preliminary investigation. There is no involvement of other parties.” SP further added that the uncle had admitted to killing Ravi during questioning. So far, the police have not released the names of the accused.

There have been many cases in the past where a Hindu man was killed just because he fell in love with a Muslim woman. In June 2021, a woman and her Hindu lover were killed by girl’s family in front of Hindu boy’s mother. In October 2020, a boy from Delhi, Rahul Rajput was brutally hacked to death in a savage attack by at least 5 assailants—Mohammad Afroz, Mohammad Raj and 3 others—for being in a love affair with a Muslim girl. A total of 20 such cases were documented by OpIndia in October 2020 after the death of Rajput that can be seen here.

Ashish Mishra, accused in Lakhimpur Kheri incident, hospitalised following dengue

Ashish Mishra, son of the union minister of state for Home & Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, who is the main accused of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case has been hospitalized as he is said to be suffering the dengue. Ashish was arrested by Uttar Pradesh police on October 9 has been taken to district hospital from Lakhimpur Kheri district jail.

On Friday Lakhimpur Kheri’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Chinta Ram remanded him to two days of police custody for his questioning. This was for the second time when the court remanded him to police custody. According to media reports, his health deteriorated and he complained of fever after which he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday around 10 PM.

According to reports he was suspected to be suffering from dengue and on Friday his blood sample was sent to a laboratory in Lucknow for confirmation of the vector-borne disease. “It is not yet confirmed as to whether he (Ashish Mishra) is suffering from dengue. His sample was sent for testing on Friday. The picture will be clear once the report comes,” the news agency PTI quoted the superintendent of the Lakhimpur Kheri district jail, PP Singh, saying this.

However, some media reports have claimed that blood report has confirmed Ashish Mishra is suffering from dengue.

On Saturday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested three people identified as Mohit Trivedi, Rinku Rana and Dharmendra, all of whom are from Lakhimpur Kheri. They were allegedly sitting in one of the SUVs that allegedly plowed into a group of protesters.

On October 3 during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, eight people died after the protest turned violent. Ashish Mishra was accused of mowing down four farmers and a journalist. During the subsequent violence, three BJP workers were lynched to death by the ‘protesting farmers’. However, Ashish Mishra has been maintaining that he was not even remotely connected with the incident.
