Police arrests 9 illegal Bangladeshi migrants working in a textile mill in Thane: Details

The crime branch of Thane Police of Maharashtra arrested nine illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were working in a textile mill at Saravali village under Bhiwandi Tehsil of the district. Their arrest was made from the premise of Avani Textile on Thursday night following a tip-off.

So far it is not clear on what ground the factory management hired them and whether their credential and backgrounds were verified. The illegal immigrants have been identified as Salim Shaikh alias Asgar (30), Rasal Shaikh (27), Shaheen Shaikh (24), Masoom Islam (21), Tarun Tripura (21), Suman Tripura (25), Ismail Khan (19), Azam Khan (19) and Aamir Khan (26). All accused hail from Chittagong district in Bangladesh. An FIR has been registered against them at Kongaon police station under sections of the Foreigners Act and the Passport Rules 1950 and forwarded to judicial custody.

Senior police inspector of Bhiwandi crime branch Ashok Honmane said that the initial probe revealed the main accused Salim Shaikh was living at Nadi Naka locality of Bhiwandi for the past 16 years. He had illegally brought many Bangladeshi nationals to provide them the job. He had worked at many Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) companies.

In the past couple of days, this is the second case of arrest of Bangladeshi immigrants from Thane. A few days back Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police had arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals from Govind Nagar locality of Bhayander.

Batsman Afif Hossain was injured during the second T-20 match in the ongoing series between Bangladesh and Pakistan after fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi intentionally threw the ball at him after being hit for a six on the previous ball.

The incident took place after the second delivery of the third over, which was promptly dispatched off to the stands by the Bangladeshi bowler. Afridi had bowled a gentle leg-stump half volley, which Afif had helped it on its way with a flick for a six over the fine-leg fielder. On the next delivery, as the batsman defended the ball back to the bowler, an enraged Afridi, who was perhaps still smarting the six he got hit on the previous ball, turned around and flung the ball at the batter, hitting Afif on the ankle, even though he was well-within his crease and had shown no intention of taking a single.

Afif was down after copping a blow from Afridi, who almost immediately walked down the pitch and tendered his apology for his inappropriate behaviour. The play was halted temporarily as the Bangladeshi physio scuttled towards the pitch to tend to Afif, who clearly appeared uncomfortable and in pain as he lay prone on the ground.

The unwarranted aggression by Pakistani bowler was called out by social media users, who slammed him for intentionally throwing the ball at the batsman with the intent of hurting him.

A Twitter user rightly called out that such behaviour displayed by bowlers is clearly not in good faith and the intention is not to get the batsman out but to vent out their frustration.

Another Twitter user slammed Shaheen Shah Afridi for not showing sportsmanship and wished that the bowler would be banned for at least one match.

Even Pakistani cricket fans, who are most of the times unreasonable and illogical, could not hide their displeasure with Shaheen Afridi’s unconscionable behaviour.

Apparently, Shaheen Shah Afridi is the same bowler who got clobbered for three sixes in a row in the semi-final against Australia that led to Pakistan’s ouster from the T-20I world cup. Following their elimination from the world cup, it was Hasan Ali, and not Shaheen Shah Afridi, who faced the wrath of the Pakistani citizens, who abused him for being a Shia Muslim and blamed him for the loss against Australia.

Pakistan cricket team is currently touring Bangladesh where they are supposed to play a series of 3 T-20I matches, and a series of two test matches. Pakistan is currently leading the ongoing T-20I series with 1-0.

Instead of confronting her own personal secretary and colleagues who were recently charged with assault, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is busy giving moral lectures to the country’s Prime Minister and Home Minister. She has reportedly written to PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah suggesting that they should not attend the DGP and IG conference scheduled to be held on November 20 and 21 in Lucknow.

“PM Modi should not attend the DGP and IG conference in Lucknow. I have written to him on the same. If he is genuinely concerned about farmers, he should not share the dais with MoS Home Ajay Mishra whose son is an accused in Lakhimpur Kheri case”, ANI quoted the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee in charge of Uttar Pradesh as saying.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged that Modi and Shah should not share the dais with Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni. She said that since Teni’s son is accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the PM and HM should refrain from sharing the same stage with him.

It may be recalled that the Uttar Pradesh authorities have already taken appropriate actions against Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody. However, the Congress party has continued its efforts to extract maximum political mileage out of the unfortunate Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Several Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had brazenly used the Lakhimpur Kheri incident to launch a concerted attack against the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had then too tried her best to foment trouble. She was detained for some time, while the state government initially denied permission to Rahul Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri. But later on, the permission was granted and Priyanka Gandhi was released.

In fact, Congress’s theatrics went so far that the deceased’s relatives had to plead with politicians not to use the deaths for political gain. ‘Don’t want fake sympathies’ posters had then greeted Rahul Gandhi in Lucknow during his much-hyped political tourism to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Personal secretary of Priyanka Gandhi, 2 other Congress leaders booked for assault

Nonetheless, while the Congress leader is busy pontificating about virtue and morals, her own secretary, Sandeep Singh, and two other senior Congress leaders, Yogesh Kumar Dixit and Shiv Pandey, were booked for assault and intimidation by the Lucknow police just yesterday.

The complainant had alleged that four people, including the Congress leaders, had tried to invade his privacy by loitering around his house in the middle of the night and when he objected, he was threatened and thrashed by them.

The complainant had added that Sandeep Singh looked drunk at the time of the incident. When the complainant confronted the Congress leaders asking why are they lurking around his house, Sandeep Singh and others started abusing him and threatening to have him arrested.

Complainant Prashant Kumar added that when he tried to call the police, the accused snatched away his mobile phone and threw it away. As the commotion got louder, other members of Prashant’s family came out and then the accused ran away.

DGP and IG conference in Lucknow

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will attend the 56th Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) to be held in Lucknow between 20 and 21 November in Lucknow.

Top-ranking police officers from states and union territories, as well as the heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations, will attend the conference in person at Police Headquarters in Lucknow. The remaining guests will participate digitally from 37 various locations due to the hybrid nature of the conference.

During this meeting, national issues like cybercrime, counter-terrorism challenges, left-wing extremism, and developing trends in narcotics trafficking are expected to be discussed and scrutinised.

2003 Banshkhali carnage: When Islamists in Bangladesh burnt 11 Hindus alive to grab their land

On the fateful night of November 18, 2003, 11 people belonging to a Hindu family were burnt alive by Islamists in Banshkhali Upazila in the Chittagong district of Bangladesh.

As per reports, the victim Tejendra Lal Sheel lived with his family in Sheelapara in Sadhnopur village of Banshkhali Upazila. Prior to the arson attack, the accused tried to intimidate the victim into giving up his land. When Sheel refused to comply, the attackers set his house on fire. On the orders of one Mokhtar Ahmad, accused Mahbub Rashid shut down the doors and windows of the house. At that point, another accused Rubel carried out the deadly arson that killed 11 people including 6 children.

The victims were identified as Tejendra Lal Sheel (70), Bakul Sheel (60), Anil Sheel (40), Smriti Sheel (32), Rumi Sheel (12), Sonia Sheel (7), Babuti Sheel (17), Prasadi Sheel (17), Annie Sheel (7), Debendra Sheel (72) and 4-day-old Kartik Sheel. The Daily Star had reported how the killing of 4-day-old Karthik sent shockwaves in the local community. “It is too macabre to even think of. Kartik was a joy in the family but wiped out of existence four days after birth. Ever heard of? Ever imagined?” recounted a neighbour.

Trial, Investigation and legal hassles in the Banshkhali massacre

The police initially dubbed the case as that of robbery. “I don’t believe this is a robbery, as eight other houses in the same yard were untouched,” a hairdresser named Nepal, who lived in the same neighbourhood had questioned. Following public outrage, the cops began investigating the matter.

During the investigation, Mahbub had confessed to the involvement of 12 people in the Banshkhali carnage. He narrated, “Of the 12, six including Mokhtar, Dola Meah, Rubel, Akbar, Aminul Haq and me entered the house and six others were on guard outside. As the family members threw acid on us, Rubel ordered us to set the house afire. We followed his orders, shut all the doors and windows and Rubel set fire to the house.”

Later, it came to light that the deadly attack was carried out on the orders of the then ruling Bangladesh National Party (BNP) leader Aminur Rahman Chowdhury to encroach over the land owned by Sheel. In January 2011, ASP Hla Ching Pru filed the charge sheet in the case. He added charges of arson, looting and murder against a total of 38 accused. The court framed the charges in April 2012. In May that year, the court began recording the testimonies of the witnesses and passed on the case to Speedy Trial Tribunal in October 2012.

Since a verdict could not be reached in 2013, the case was re-transferred to the trial court. It has been 18 years since the 11 Hindus were burnt to death and justice continues to be denied in Bangladesh. In 2019, the High Court directed that the case be disposed of within 6 months. Even then, the trial court failed to record the testimonies of 50 witnesses. Until 2020, only the testimonies of 22 witnesses were recorded. As of today, only 2 of the accused are behind bars while 17 of them are out on bail. A whopping 19 accused are still on the run from law enforcement authorities.

Delay in justice bolsters courage of radical elements

The Sheel family is now survived by Dr Biman Dheel, who is the son of victim Tejendra Lal. Despite no legal and financial support from the Awami League government, the only surviving member of the family continued to fight the case legally. While speaking about the case, Bimal Sheel lamented, “I hoped I would get justice, but I haven’t got it yet. The situation has come to such a point that no witness is agreeing to testify. Warrants are required for their presence. Even the then OC of Banshkhali Police Station and the ASP who investigated the case have not testified.”

He added, “Newspapers publish reports on the anniversaries. That’s all. No one cares anymore about us. I’ve lost my parents. I have nothing else now.” During this period, he received the support of Rana Dasgupta, the General Secretary of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council in Bangladesh. Dasgupta highlighted how the delay in justice created a ‘culture of impunity’ and encouraged the targeting of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

“The justice seekers won’t consider it justice even if the trial ends now. They lost everything in 2003 and continued to suffer to run the case for so many years. This shows the situation in which the minorities in Bangladesh live in now. This case shows how the culture of impunity exists in attacks on minorities. Communal forces are encouraged by the delay in the trial,” he added.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has landed himself in another controversy after declaring that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is like an elder brother to him. Sidhu said that he had been showered with love by Imran Khan. He made the comments during the visit to Kartarpur.

This was not the first time Navjot Singh Sidhu had demonstrated a profound love for Pakistani leaders who sponsor terrorism against India. During an earlier visit to Pakistan, he had hugged Pakistani Army Chief General Bajwa, drawing ire from several quarters.

Following the comments, BJP IT-Cell chief Amit Malviya said that it was not a surprise that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi chose Sidhu over Captain Amarinder Singh.

Captain Amarinder Singh, who resigned recently as the Chief Minister of Punjab, had called Navjot Singh Sidhu a national security threat following his resignation. The former Punjab CM had said that Sidhu has relations with Imran Khan and Qamar Bajwa.

He claimed to have told Sidhu, “Here are my soldiers getting killed and you are going and hugging the Pakistani chief General Bajwa. Then you are going to Imran Khan where policies are made against our nation. Do you know how many drones are coming into Punjab on a daily basis? How much weaponry has come into Punjab? How much RDX explosives, how many grenades, how many pistols, over 50,000 rounds of ammunition, all that is coming in the state, what does it come in for?”

Earlier in August, Sidhu’s aide Manvinder Singh Mali had claimed that Kashmir is a separate country and India and Pakistan are occupying it, drawing sharp criticism.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repealing the three farm laws. Singh said that by taking this step PM Modi has averted a major crisis and impending tragedy looming over the Sikh community.

Giani Harpreet Singh who is the senior religious head of the Sikh community released a video statement on Friday (November 19) to express his gratitude to PM Modi for taking this decision. Giani Harpreet Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neutralizing threats emerging on the Sikh community besides conspiracies to break the Hindu-Sikh community.

“I wholeheartedly thank Prime Minister and his government as they have averted a tragedy that seemed to be looming over the Sikhs in the country,” Giani Harpreet Singh said.

Akal Takht head said that the news made him happy that the Centre announced to withdraw farms law and it brought more happiness to him as PM Modi made this announcement on the day of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Explaining his worries and crisis on Sikhs he said that certain things had made him worried. But “Prime Minister has removed our worries. We were worried as during the agitation there were some outfits that were sidelining the Sikh philosophy, its spirit, tradition, history and sentiment,” he said.

Modi neutralized conspiracy to break Hindu-Sikh unity

He said that during agitation some groups were trying to turn the farmers’ agitation into a Sikh vs Indian government or a Sikh vs Hindu fight. It made him worried when conspiracies were hatched to break Hindu-Sikh unity. “Even attempts were made by mischievous elements to make it a Sikh vs Hindu issue to create a communal divide,” he said.

Giani Harpreet Singh said that the atmosphere being created was fatal for Sikhs and the community could have faced serious implications of such attempts. But the Modi government averted this atmosphere by the grace of God, he said.   

He cautioned such elements that they can’t break Hindu-Sikh unity. “We always want Sikhs to live safely in India and lead a good life. The bond between Sikhs and Hindus is very strong and we have been making efforts to make this bond strong forever,” he said.  

Jathedar mourns loss of life during agitation

Giani Harpreet Singh mourned the loss of life during agitation which can’t be overcome. He said the Sikh community paid the most to persuade the government to recall these laws adding that Sikhs in India and settled abroad the maximum participation without taking care of their life and capital. The majority of the protesters were Sikhs. He said that Modi understood that farms law left Sikhs disappointed hence he withdrew the law.

Jathedar read writings on the wall without making any reference

Jathedar said that protesters can heave a sigh of relief as these laws took the lives of farmers. He subtly signalled Sikh farmers to retreat from the protest. In the video, he dropped broad hints of how Sikh sentiments were exploited for the furtherance of petty political interests that could have been subversive to the interest of the nation and the Sikh community.

Under the garb of farmers’ agitation attempts were made to revive the Khalistani movement and the ghost of Bhindranwale was returning in Punjab. Rampant violence took place on Republic Day and such conspiracies were hatched at the international level to destabilise the country. People with a dubious distinction like Greta Thunberg were ready with their toolkit to create disturbances.  

A Dalit man Lakhbir Singh was butchered by Nihang Sikhs at the protest site which was nowhere approved in Sikhism. Even attempts were made to justify the killing.

A female Tesla employee has sued the Elon Musk-run electric car company in the US, accusing them of creating a hostile environment for female staff at the workplace. According to the complaint filed by Jessica Barraza (38) in a state court in Oaklandon on Thursday (November 18), the female employees who work in Tesla Inc’s Fremont, California, factory face “rampant sexual harassment”.

According to a report published by The Washington Post on Friday, November 19, Jessica Barraza, who works on the Tesla Model 3 as the production associate at the Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California, has said that the female employees are subjected to continuous harassment, with coworkers and superiors making obscene comments and gestures, “including catcalling and inappropriate physical touching” to her and other women working night shifts. She revealed that she had complained about the harassment to her supervisors and human resources but to no avail.

In the complaint, Jessica Barraza said she experienced “nightmarish” conditions as a night-shift worker at Tesla. “After almost three years of experiencing all the harassment, it robs your sense of security, it almost dehumanises you,” she was quoted as saying in the report.

The female employee at Tesla added that she suffers from panic attacks due to three years of trauma and “is afraid to return to work knowing that her body could be violated at any time with no repercussions.”

She further said that she “is on medication and therapy, and she is not the same person she used to be.”

Speaking to the American website The Verge, Barraza said: “Nearly every day for three years, my female coworkers and I were objectified, threatened, touched, and propositioned on the factory floor. I wanted to come to work, do my job, and support my family without having to endure constant sexual harassment. I felt degraded, humiliated and traumatised.”

For years, charges of discrimination at Tesla’s Fremont factory have plagued the company. It may be noted that in the month of October, Tesla Inc. was forced to pay $137 million to a former contractor who claimed he was subjected to racial discrimination as part of a hostile work environment at the same plant.

Another woman employee working at Tesla’s Fremont plant had in September alleged that she was subjected to racial and gender discrimination. The Black woman named Rebecca Spates, who joined Tesla in June 2019, had said in her complaint that she had approached the management with a complaint against a coworker accusing him of touching her buttocks.

Tesla is yet to react to Jessica Barraza’s complaint filed against the company.

As was expected, the withdrawal of the three farm laws has thrown open a pandora’s box, with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi demanding the Prime Minister of revoking all decisions taken on August 5, 2019, concerning Jammu and Kashmir, just like he announced the revocation of three farm laws on Friday.

Mufti called the decision to repeal farm laws an apology and “a welcome step”. She even posted a tweet, demanding that the central government rolls back the decisions made on August 5, 2019, with respect to Jammu and Kashmir, just like the farm laws were taken back.

She tweeted, “Even though it stems from electoral compulsions and fear of drubbing in elections. Ironical that while BJP needs to please people in rest of India for votes, punishing and humiliating Kashmiris satisfies their major vote bank.”

“Desecrating the Indian constitution to dismember and disempower J&K was done only to please their voters. I hope they course correct here too and reverse the illegal changes made in J&K since August 2019,” she tweeted in a subsequent tweet.

Likewise, Mr Masoodi of the National Conference, too, urged PM Modi to introspect the case of the 2019 decisions, through which Jammu and Kashmir were stripped of their separate status. Dissing the momentous decision of the abrogation of Article 370, Masoodi rued that the state was “unilaterally, unconstitutionally and unethically denuded of its special status, dismembered and downgraded to Union Territory”. He termed the Prime Minister’s move on farm laws “a clear shift from politics of arrogance to one of introspection and reappraisal”.

‘Repeal of three laws reflects a realisation on the part of PM Modi and the Centre’: Masoodi

Masoodi further added that the decision to revoke farm laws depicts a realisation on PM Modi and the Centre’s part that instead of ramrodding important legislations on the strength of the majority, they should be placed in the public domain for wider discussions and deliberations at the pre-legislation stage.

“The fresh decision teaches us that there is nothing like ‘hands of a clock cannot be moved back’. The August 5, 2019 decisions, like farm laws, have resulted in death and destruction, uncertainty, and large-scale discontent. The decisions, as admitted by the Prime Minister, have widened the gulf between the people of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and the rest of the country. It also has caused a huge drain on precious and scarce resources of the country that rightfully belong to the millions of underprivileged and disempowered countrymen,” he said.

The National Conference leader also exhorted the Centre to facilitate an internal dialogue amongst the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. “The political parties and the civil society groups at the national level should support just cause and political aspirations of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh like they extended unwavering support to the farmers’ struggle,” he added.

PM Modi announces withdrawal of three farm laws

PM Modi, addressing the nation said on November 19, that by the end of this month, the Modi government would complete the process of repealing the three farm laws. He then appealed to the protesting farmers and middlemen to return to their homes on this Gurupurab and stop their protest. He further said that the government will form a committee to formulate laws for the benefit of the farmers. 

He further said that the government had introduced the laws after due deliberation but perhaps it was the shortcoming of the government that they could not convince all farmers that the laws were indeed in their benefit. Further, he said that the past governments had deliberated on these laws as well but it was the Modi government that had implemented them. 

He said that all his decisions were in the interest of the nation and he will continue to work for the benefit of the nation.

The popular movement against namaz at public places at Gurugram in Haryana is leaping from one destination to another as in Sector 37 local residents protested after a large number of Muslims turned at a public ground to offer Friday namaz on November 19.

The ground is situated at Khansda village where commercial vehicles are parked besides local youths play cricket here. Residents of Khansda alleged that last Friday Muslims had misbehaved with boys of the village who were playing cricket on the ground. Hence, they will not allow any illegal occupation of the ground of their village.

As Muslims came to offer namaz, youths playing cricket refused to vacate the ground of their village. They objected public places are occupied to offer namaz despite people facing problems. The deadlock continued for around one hour when local police of Sector 10 and Sector 37 reached and took them to the police station at Sector 10 to resolve the matter through negotiation.

However, the namaz was offered here later on, but, youths are understood to have told the police that from the next Friday they would not allow their ground to be used for purpose of namaz. They also told police and Muslims that no namaz would be allowed without valid permission.

A local news channel Gurugram News interviewed some youths of the village who opposed the namaz at the playground of their village.

“On every holiday we come to this ground to play cricket. From the morning we were playing cricket. They (Muslims) started arriving at the ground at 12 in the afternoon and in less than an hour around 1000 Muslims assembled here. They put their mats on the ground and started offering namaz. They have mosques, rooms and other places where they can offer namaz. But for us, this is the only ground. We request them to offer namaz at mosques and rooms,” said Sachin Yadav a local resident.

He said that police instead of asking Muslims to go to some other places for the namaz persuaded villagers to vacate the ground.

Local residents had made up their mind to oppose offering of namaz in public place

Mohit Raghav another local resident said that last Friday when they were playing Muslims came and they started laying wires and other things. “This is our village and they have come here and they don’t have the courtesy to ask us to vacate the ground. Sundar Chauhan from Khansda village said that it made them angry that boys of the village were misbehaved and they were stopped. “Police stopped us from playing today. But we will not allow namaz from the next week if they don’t valid permission,” said Chauhan.

One Haji Shahzad of Muslim Ekta Manch claimed that Khandsa ground was on the list of 20 places agreed upon by the local administration for Muslims to offer namaz. He alleged that the police instead of taking action was trying to suppress the matter.   

Shahzad said that over 1000 Muslims offer prayers on this ground and when they reached the ground youths refused to vacate and threatened to disrupt their namaz.

Gurugram residents push back against encroachment of public places for namaz

Opposition to illegal occupation of public places by Muslim to offer their religious prayers is steadily gaining momentum. For weeks now, conscientious locals have pushed back against Muslims who have resorted to indulging in communal praying in public places instead of designated places of worship. Last week, as the residents in Gurugram continued their protest against Muslims offering Namaz at open spaces, some of them today took the matter into their own hands to prevent the same.

After the police declined to intervene and stop namaz at public places despite opposition from the locals, some activists spread cow dung cakes on the ground at Gurugram’s Sector 12A, which prevented the Muslims from offering their Friday prayers there.

Congress MLA Amin Kagzi has written a letter to Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot demanding action against the vice-principal of the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The Congress MLA alleged that the vice-principal of the university stopped a Muslim student from offering namaz in an open space inside the institute premises on Friday, November 12.

The Kishanpole MLA of the Congress said in his letter that college vice-principal RN Sharma was behind the incident to stop the student from offering namaz in a corner of a parking lot and demanded appropriate action against him.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and former education minister Vasudev Devnani has taken strong objection to the letter written by the Congress MLA, alleging that he is “trying to spread religious enmity”.

“University syndicate member and MLA Amin Kagzi is making efforts to spread religious enmity over the namaz offering incident in the college,” Devnani said, adding that such actions pollute educational institutions with “fundamentalist thinking”. 

“He should be suspended from the syndicate with immediate effect,” Devnani tweeted.

ABVP Students also objected to the letter written by the Congress MLA. Speaking to TOI, ABVP state secretary Hushyaar Meena said Amin Kagzi is attempting to cause chaos on campus by inciting conflict between two religious communities. Kagzi is a government employee and has no right to engage in such politics on campus, exclaimed Hushyaar Meena.

The row erupted at the government-led University of Rajasthan in Jaipur on Friday, November 12, after the college vice-principal allegedly took objections to a student offering Namaz in an open space on the campus premises. According to the initial information received, a student named Ibrahim was offering namaz when the vice-principal approached him and stopped him, telling him that offering namaz in such an open area was against the regulations.

The university, according to reports, has a separate prayer room. The student, however, opted to offer Namaz in an open area on the college campus, which the vice-principal objected to.

This incident led to the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) coming face to face. More people were brought in, including some outsiders, resulting in a tussle between several members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on the varsity campus.

While the NSUI, which is the student wing of the Indian National Congress expressed support for the Muslim students, the ABVP, the student’s body of the RSS was against the move.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists chanted the Hanuman Chalisa as a mark of protest after paying obeisance to tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on the campus on Monday. ABVP state secretary Hoshiyar Meena claimed that it was not only a college student but others who were also offering namaz on the campus, which cannot be “tolerated”. He said that they would not let the corridors of education get “tarnished”.

The members of the NSUI, on the other hand, created a ruckus, demanding the vice-principal be suspended. “The teacher who took objection is affiliated to the RSS. The student was offering namaz in an open ground. Harassing someone in the name of religion is wrong,” NSUI district president Rajesh Chaudhary said.

Amidst all this, the Gandhi Nagar police said that it has asked the vice-chancellor of the university to issue directions to its affiliated colleges to ensure such things do not occur on educational premises. “We have asked the Vice-Chancellor to issue directions to affiliated colleges that such activities do not occur on educational premises,” Gandhi Nagar SHO Nemi Chand said.
