Indore: Faizaan Khan posed as Kabir to trap woman, threatens her to convert and get her child circumcised

In a new case of ‘Love Jihad’ under false identity from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, one Faizaan had reportedly posed as Kabir to befriend a 35-year-old woman who managed a beauty parlour. Reportedly, Faizaan after getting friendly with the woman molested the woman at knifepoint and later threatened her with making the video viral.

As per a Zee News report, Faizaan had introduced himself as Kabir Verma to the woman who runs a parlour in Indore’s Kanadia area. Faizaan in 2017 had posed as a customer looking for makeup services for his sister and subsequently established a friendly relation with the woman.

The victim has complained that Faizaan forced her into a physical relationship at knifepoint and even shot the incident to blackmail her. The woman in her complaint has stated that Faizaan had assaulted and threatened her multiple times. When the victim resisted, Faizaan attempted to strangulate her elder child.

The woman had given birth to Faizaan’s child 1.5 years ago. When the victim asked Faizaan to marry her, Faizaan forced her to convert and asked her to get their child circumcised. He also threatened the woman to get into relationships with his friends and physically assaulted her on resistance.

Only recently did the woman’s family get to know of her condition and made her lodge a complaint against Faizaan on Wednesday.

Sharing details on the case, SP Rajesh Raghuvanshi informed that the accused has been arrested for rape and forceful conversion and the police are investigating the matter further. Faizaan runs a furniture business in Indore’s Vijaynagar. Whereas, the woman after a divorce had been living with her 13-year-old son.

Leave no man behind: Ruby, Maya and Bobby, the ITBP dogs that secured Indian Embassy in Afghanistan return home safely

ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) dogs Ruby, Maya and Bobby that secured the Indian mission in Afghanistan’s Kabul were evacuated safely back to India. They returned today to Hindon on Tuesday and reached ITBP’s Chawal camp today.

They had secured the Indian mission in Kabul for three years. As reported by journalist Sidhant Sibal, the ITBP has said that the dogs have done an outstanding job in securing the Embassy. “They report that all three brave darlings are extremely happy to touch Indian Soil and come back to familiar sights, smells and sounds of our nation,” ITBP personnel said.

The dogs played an important role in Kabul in saving lives of many Afghans as well as Indians by diffusing IEDs. The dogs landed with the contingent of 99 Indian commandos of ITBP.

Afghanistan has spiralled into chaos after Taliban took over Afghanistan as Kabul fell on Sunday. President Ashraf Ghani fled the country and is now believed to be in Tajikistan. Vice President Amrullah Saleh has refused to bow down to Taliban and has declared himself caretaker President and is in talks with leaders for support. Amid the chaos, many countries, including India, have evacuated their citizens to safety.

Twitter refuses to remove accounts of Islamist group Taliban, claims will ‘ensure’ it follows ‘rules’

The micro-blogging site Twitter has refused to follow other social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube in prohibiting the Islamist group Taliban from using its platform.

According to the reports, Twitter has refused to suspend the accounts of the leaders associated with the Islamist organisation.

Responding to media on whether Twitter would take action against the terror group, a spokesman for the company sidestepped the question, saying it would “continue to proactively enforce” its rules on the “glorification of violence, platform manipulation and spam.”

“Twitter’s top priority is keeping people safe, and we remain vigilant,” the social media giant claimed.

Currently, the official Taliban spokesmen have unverified accounts on Twitter. One, Zabihullah Mujahid, has more than 310,000 followers. On Tuesday, Zabihullah had posted a tweet promoting the alleged press conference organised by Taliban that drew hundreds of responses, many of them from well-wishers.

The other spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, who has more than 63,000 followers, rose to fame during the recent Taliban onslaught on the Afghan government. He had aggressively tweeted about the attacks against the Afghan National Army and the Taliban’s capture of various cities.

Suhail Shaheen, the face of the Taliban on the media platforms lately, who is also a member of the Taliban’s negotiations team and political group, is also active on Twitter. However, no action has been taken against any of these accounts.

Twitter has come under fire for giving a platform to the spokespersons of the Taliban to update their hundreds of thousands of followers as they took control of different regions of Afghanistan.

The reluctance of Twitter to remove accounts associated with the radical Islamists has exposed the hypocrisy of the micro-blogging site. Several critics of Twitter have pointed out how Twitter was eager to ban former United States President Donald Trump in the aftermath of the Capitol Hill riots in Washington earlier this year. However, it failed to take any action against the Islamist organisation with the same intent.

Facebook, YouTube bans Taliban

On Tuesday, social media giant Facebook announced that it had banned Taliban and all content supporting it from all its platforms as it is considered as a terrorist organisation under US Law. The company had said that a dedicated team of Afghan experts is monitoring and removing all content linked to the group from its platforms.

Notably, the Taliban has been using social media platforms for a long time to propagate its messages. Reports say that the Taliban has used WhatsApp extensively to spread its message.

“The Taliban are sanctioned as a terrorist organisation under US law & we’ve banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organisation Policies. This means we remove accounts maintained by/on behalf of the Taliban and ban their praise, support, and representation,” Facebook had issued a statement.

They further added, “We also have a dedicated team of Afghanistan experts, who are native Dari and Pashto speakers and have knowledge of local context, helping to identify and alert us about emerging issues on the platform.”

Similarly, video sharing platform YouTube has also said that it will ban accounts it believes are owned and operated by Taliban. WhatsApp, a part of Facebook Inc, has also shut down a complaints helpline set up by Taliban after it took control over Afghanistan.

Congress MPs who were seen attacking marshals in Rajya Sabha cry before media, claim they were injured too

Two women Congress MPs broke down while addressing a press conference on the ruckus that took place in the Parliament on August 11. Chhaya Verma and Phulo Devi Netam from INC Chhattisgarh levying several allegations against the government said that the male marshals made an attempt to strangulate them when the opposition had gathered in the well of the House to register their protest.

The last few days of the monsoon session of the Parliament had witnessed a huge uproar with the opposition slinging mud at the government alleging that they called “outsiders” to beat and manhandle members of the opposition. Multiple incidents of physical violence, standing on tables, tearing and throwing documents were witnessed.

While the opposition was seen climbing on tables, hurling books at the Chair and getting into a scuffle, they claimed that it was the marshals that led an assault on especially the women MPs of opposition.

Both the Congress MPs had claimed that they sustained injuries after being attacked by male marshals. However, their claims are not supported by available footage of the violent scuffle that happened in Rajya Sabha on August 11. In the videos from the Rajya Sabha, both the MPs were seen dragging and manhandling a woman marshal.

“I have sustained injuries but cannot show,” claimed Verma. The two allegedly underwent treatment at a hospital in Delhi after sustaining injuries due to the scuffle.

Report on the violence in Rajya Sabha

The Director (Security) of Rajya Sabha had submitted a report regarding the violence that ensued in the House. The report as well as several CCTV clippings released by the government made it evident that it was in fact the opposition that led an attack on the Chair.

The report detailing the incident stated, “As soon as the bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passing, Hon’ble Members from opposition stormed into the well of the House to disturb the smooth functioning of the House and attempted to climb on the Table of the House and to tear the books/papers placed on it. As per the directions from the Chair and Standard Operating Procedures, officials of the Parliament Security Service had already positioned themselves around the Table of the House to prevent potential damage to the items placed on the Table and to protect Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha and other officials from the Secretariat from causing any hurt during the commotion.”

While some opposition MPs tore papers and flung them at the Chair, another MP in an attempt to breach the cordon, caught hold of a male marshal’s neck who was choked and left gasping for breath.

The female marshal assaulted by the two aforementioned Congress MPs had also filed a report narrating the incident. She informed that she sustained multiple abrasions, swellings and haematoma (left shoulder) and twisted left wrist as a result of the assault launched by the opposition MPs.

The female security officer Ms Akshita Bhat had submitted a report to the Director (Security), where she narrated when she tried to prevent the MPs from breaching the security cordon in their attempt to reach the Table of the House, two female Congress MPs Chhaya Verma and Phulo Devi Netam stepped aside and made way for male Members to aggressively breach the security cordon and reach the Table. The two female MPs physically and forcefully dragged her by pulling her arms in their attempt to help their male counterparts break the security cordon formed by the security officials, the female marshal’s report had mentioned.

Taliban shot unarmed Afghans for protesting against the change of national flag, two died in Jalalabad

On August 18, Afghani locals took on the roads in Jalalabad to show resistance towards the Taliban. They removed the Taliban flag and waved Afghanistan Tricolour openly. As a result, the Taliban opened fire at them to disperse the crowd. A series of videos of the incident was shared on social media.

Reportedly, two Afghani locals were reported dead in the shooting, and ten others were injured. Armed Talibanis dressed in black were seen running towards the unarmed crowd.

Another video revealed how Afghan locals removed the Talibani flag and installed Afghanistan Tricolor in Jalalabad that had led to the shooting incident.

In another video, locals were seen carrying Afghan flags while chanting slogans against the Taliban.

Though the Taliban is trying to project a ‘moderate’ image, the Jihadist organization is openly violating the so-called promises they have made during interviews, statements and press conference. On Wednesday, it was reported that the group shot dead a woman for not wearing a burqa. They also opened fire at the airport on people who were trying to flee Afghanistan.

Though there is resistance among the Afghani citizens towards the Taliban, it is not enough to fight the well-armed Jihadi organization that has taken control of the country. At present, the Afghans are mainly protesting against the Taliban attempt to change the national flag.

The phantom of colonialism: Unearthing ‘Discovery’

Golden balls of yellow flowers, a little smaller than a tennis ball, indigenous to the warmer parts of India – the tree grows tall with horizontal branches and large, shining leaves. It is popularly known as the Kadamba tree associated with Shri Krishna. Also known as the Tree of Devas, the tree also has medicinal properties and is used in Ayurveda. Its flowers are offered in Temples to Devi-Devtas.

Shri Krishna dancing with Radha and his favourite Gopis under this tree is a treasured theme of the Krishna-Radha legend and customarily illustrated in various paintings. This association makes the tree extraordinarily sacred to Hindus.

The name Kadamba has another mention in pages of Indian history. There was an ancient royal dynasty of Karnataka that ruled from Banavasi in the present day Uttara Kannada district during (345 – 525 C.E.) known as the Kadamba Dynasty. The Kadambas emerged as the first indigenous dynasty to use Kannada, the language of the soil, at an administrative level. According to Grama Paddhati, a Kannada work dealing with the history of the Tulu Brahmanas, Bhagwan Shiva and Ma Parvati gave birth to Mayurasharma (founder of the dynasty) under a Kadamba tree in the Sahyadri mountains and hence the name Kadamba. Another legend says Bhagwan Shiva and the Mother Earth gave birth to Mayurasharma. Yet another legend states that Mayurasharma had been born to a sister of Jain Tirthankara Ananda Jinavritindra under a Kadamba tree.

Bharat is the land of stories.

Aryabhatta’s verse from Aryabhatiya

The verse above in Sanskrit was quoted in the 5th century by great mathematician and astronomer Aryabatta 1 (476–550 CE) in his work called Aryabhatiya which is divided into 4 sections namely Gitikapada, Ganitpada, Kalakriyapada & Golapada. Under the title Golapada, he explains the earth is circular like a Kadamba flower and just as the bulb of a Kadamba flower is surrounded by blossoms on all sides. Hence, the Earth is round and surrounded by all creatures whether living on land or in water.

Aryabhatta discovered the number system and invented zero, the value of Pi, geometric/trigonometric aspects of the celestial sphere, calculation of day and rotation of the earth, scientific explanation of eclipses, celestial equator to name a few and all that at a very young age. He credited his work to his Gurus and the works of his predecessors. Such was the humility of a man who discovered works far ahead of his times and laid the foundation for modern-day science, maths and astronomy. His work spread to Arabic and European regions and was translated into their native languages.

This was the time when Rome was falling, Europeans were ravaging, killing and plundering each other like barbarians while the Indian sub-continent was thriving and going through a golden era, making discoveries in the fields of science, mathematics, astronomy and medicine. These works were later spread across the world, translated and then later released by others as their own discoveries with little or no credit to original work or the person.

Discovery

This is how Oxford Dictionary defines ‘discovery’.

Discovery (n): an act or the process of finding somebody/something, or learning about something that was not known about before.

Except, the origin of the word are quite different.

In common indoctrinated knowledge an Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered America, Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon discovered Australia and Portuguese Vasco Da Gama discovered India.

Christopher Columbus wanted to discover India but landed in America because he underestimated the size of the earth nearly by 40% and reached Cuba instead. Hence the indigenous people are called Indians. Vasco Da Gama was in Africa for months clueless of passage to India. He discovered India only when an Indian man named Kanak accompanied and guided him to India. Kanak used a traditional navigational instrument called the Kamal or Rapalagai. It’s common knowledge that people in these places existed for thousands of years before the sailors from far-off land set their foot for the first time. Then why should it be called ‘Discovery’ even though the place, people, habitat was living, breathing and thriving before the arrival?

Here is where things get interesting. But first, let us understand a bit about ‘Papal bull’. What is ‘Papal bull’?

It is a formal proclamation issued by the Pope (usually written in antiquated characters and sealed with a leaden bulla). It is a type of decree or an order which is legally binding command or decision entered on the court record (as if issued by a court or judge).

The heathens of the world would be unaware of the real meaning of the term “discovery” as it relates to a religious doctrine enunciated by the church in papal bulls.

In the bull of 1452, Pope Nicholas directed King Alfonso to “capture, vanquish, and subdue the saracens, pagans, and other enemies of Christ,” to “put them into perpetual slavery,” and “to take all their possessions and property.” [Davenport: 20-26] Acting on this papal privilege, Portugal continued to traffic in African slaves and expanded its royal dominions by making “discoveries” along the western coast of Africa, claiming those lands as Portuguese territory. Under various theological and legal doctrines formulated during and after the Crusades, non-Christians were considered enemies of the Catholic faith and, as such, less than human.

When Columbus sailed west across the Sea of Darkness in 1492 – with the express understanding that he was authorized to “take possession” of any lands he “discovered” that were “not under the dominion of any Christian rulers” – he and the Spanish sovereigns of Aragon and Castile were following an already well-established tradition of “discovery” and conquest. [Thacher:96]. Pope Alexander stated his desire that the “discovered” people be “subjugated and brought to the faith itself.” [Davenport:61] By this means, said the pope, the “Christian Empire” would be propagated. [Thacher:127]

The underlying religious principle was the “Doctrine of Christian Discovery” that the first Christian to sight any piece of land became its ‘discoverer’ hence owner. It is in this sense of land ownership that Vasco da Gama ‘discovered’ India or Columbus ‘discovered’ America.

When Christopher Columbus first set foot on the white sands of Guanahani island, he performed a ceremony to “take possession” of the land for the king and queen of Spain, acting under the international laws of Western Christendom. The bull Romanus Pontifex explicitly directed all Christians to invade, search out, capture, vanquish, and subdue all Saracens and pagans…and other enemies of Christ [i.e., all non-Christians]…to reduce their persons to perpetual slavery, and to apply and appropriate…[their] possessions, and goods, and to convert them to…their use and profit…

This papal incitement to mass murder was justified by quoting parts of the Bible. “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron sceptre; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.” [Psalm 2:8-9 N.I.V.] “May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, to inflict vengeance on the peoples, to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackled of iron, to carry out the sentence written against them. This is the glory of all his saints. Praise the Lord.” [Psalm 149:6-9 N.I.V.].

In his book titled ‘A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies’, Bartolome De Las Casas talks about how the Spanish did not spare even women and children. He says that they split open the wombs of pregnant women and threw young children from cliffs into the sea saying “boil there you offspring of the devil”. Close to 10 million people were brutally murdered in the initial genocide in America.

In 1823, the Christian Doctrine of Discovery was quietly adopted into U.S. law by the Supreme Court in the celebrated case, Johnson v. McIntosh (8 Wheat., 543). Writing for a unanimous court, Chief Justice John Marshall observed that Christian European nations had assumed “ultimate dominion” over the lands of America during the Age of Discovery, and that – upon “discovery” – the Indians had lost “their rights to complete sovereignty, as independent nations,” and only retained a right of “occupancy” in their lands.

In other words, Indians nations were subject to the ultimate authority of the first nation of Christendom to claim possession of a given region of Indian lands. [Johnson:574; Wheaton:270-1] According to Marshall, the United States – upon winning its independence in 1776 – became a successor nation to the right of “discovery” and acquired the power of “dominion” from Great Britain.

The Doctrine of Discovery is the International Law of Colonialism as stated by Professor Robert J. Miller explains in 10 points how this doctrine has been primarily used to support decisions invalidating or ignoring aboriginal possession of land in favor of colonial or post-colonial governments.

There have been multiple holocausts of natives around the world in name of religious beliefs in the African continent, Native America and the most recent finding of a mass graves of children which is the result of genocide of native people in Canada. Indigenous legal scholar Tamara Starblanket quoted in an article, “The laws and policies that force our children’s removal are about our lands and how to gain domination over the lands, minerals, waters, and airspace. The government attempted forcible denationalization, … by massive and widespread forcible indoctrination. … The effect is that our children do not understand their responsibilities, languages, cultures, spirituality, laws and direct connection to our lands and their duty to protect our lands for future generations.”

Hitler found his inspiration of Nazi genocide from butcherings of Native Americans. He quotes as follows.

There is only one task: Germanization through the introduction of Germans [to the area] and to treat the original inhabitants like Indians. … I intend to stay this course with ice-cold determination. I feel myself to be the executor of the will of History. What people think of me at present is all of no consequence. Never have I heard a German who has bread to eat express concern that the ground where the grain was grown had to be conquered by the sword. We eat Canadian wheat and never think of the Indians.”

The once upon a time colonies are still the slaves to the legacy the superior and imperial colonisers have left for generations to come which will still suffer in colonialism despite the independence.

It is about time we come out of the shackles of colonialism and dig our roots, engage with our true history to ‘Discover the truth.

The bitter truth of ‘Discovery’ is an ugly face of all human vices, but what’s more shameful is we subjugating ourselves to this law even today that dehumanizes all non-christians, strips them of their basic rights to their land thereby still colonizing, a sad reality that most people are unaware of, justification/appropriation of genocides, no punishments, no closure.

As an Indian, I shudder to think and am unapologetically delighted that Europeans who mostly use to taking moral high-ground were primitive enough not know basic elementary mathematics hence Columbus could not find Indian subcontinent. Sadly American Native were not so blessed.

The persecuted celebrating and glorifying the perpetrators, visiting their graves, monuments, places of worship and celebrating their arrival day and choosing to teach the same false narrative to thier children is not a sign of true independence.

How are we free if even a single school is still teaching that Columbus, Vasco and Cook ‘discovered’!

I’ll leave you with this 1969 interview of Miriam Makeba where she speaks about invaders and who writes history.

Afghan embassy in Tajikistan requests Interpol to detain Ashraf Ghani for stealing public fund, declares VP Amrullah Saleh as acting president

The Afghan embassy in Tajikistan has requested the Interpol police to detain Afghanistan’s ousted president Ashraf Ghani and his aides Hamdallah Moheb and Fazl Mahmoud Fazli. The embassy said that they have been stolen public funds, and their detention is requested to retrieve the people’s wealth.

Reportedly, Ashraf Ghani is in Oman after fleeing from Afghanistan, and he is alleged to have taken a huge amount of money with him. According to Russian news agency RIA, Ghani left the capital Kabul on Sunday with four cars and a helicopter full of cash. The report also claimed that he had to leave behind some cash as all the cash wouldn’t fit in cars, which were loaded in a chopper.

“Four cars were full of money, they tried to stuff another part of the money into a helicopter, but not all of it fit. And some of the money was left lying on the tarmac,” Nikita Ishchenko, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Kabul, was quoted as saying by RIA. Russian sources also claim that Ghani flew to Oman from Kabul. While several reports had said that Ghani had entered Tajikistan but had to divert to Oman after Tajikistan him permission to land, Tajik authorities denied the reports saying he didn’t enter their airspace.

Apart from demanding the arrest of former president Ashraf Ghani, Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, Afghan ambassador to Tajikistan, also declared vice president Amrullah Saleh as the acting president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. He said that as per the Constitution, in the absence, escape or death of the president, the first vice president becomes the caretaker and official acting president.

The ambassador also posted photographs on his Facebook account showing the embassy staff removing the portraits of Ghani, and replacing them with portraits of ‘acting president’ Amrullah Saleh in the embassy premises.

The Afghan ambassador stressed that the world should know that Afghanistan’s official representative to the United Nations still exists and that the country’s flag is being hoisted as a national identity in all countries of the world. The ambassador called on all political representations of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to keep the Afghan national flag flying.

He added that politicians and parties involved in Doha are discussing the establishment of a comprehensive government, and people are waiting for the outcome of these talks.

VP Amrullah Saleh stakes claim to the Presidency in absence of Ashraf Ghani

Earlier yesterday, the Vice President of Afghanistan under the Ashraf Ghani government, Amrullah Saleh, staked claim to the presidency of the country as the legitimate caretaker president. He said that as per the constitution of Afghanistan, in the event of the escape, absence, resignation or death of the president, the Vice President becomes the caretaker president.

Amrullah Saleh said that since he is still in Afghanistan, he is the legitimate caretaker president and therefore, he is reaching out to leaders to secure their support and consensus. Amrullah Saleh is currently stationed in Panjshir province, the only province not captured by the Taliban yet. The province is known as the anti-Taliban hub in the country, and Saleh is mobilising forces to launch a campaign from Panjshir to remove the Taliban from Kabul. A resistance force, led by Ahmad Massoud, son of late Afghan leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, known as the “Lion” of Panjshir, is gaining in strength in the Panjshir valley, north of Kabul.

Kabul fell to the Taliban on the 15th of August without bloodshed after president Ashraf Ghani fled the country. In a blitzkrieg, the Taliban managed to capture the whole of Afghanistan in a matter of days, except Panjshir. The speed at which the Afghan Government collapsed came as a shock to many, with Afghan soldiers leaving the force to join the ranks of the Taliban.

Taliban to give rights to women, but as per Sharia law: Here is what the Islamic law says about women

On Tuesday this week, days after the Taliban stormed Kabul and effectively sealed the control of Afghanistan, the spokesperson of the terror organisation made pacifying comments to help tame growing fear among the residents and as a part of a broader campaign to present a more moderate face to the world.

The terror outfit declared an “amnesty” across the country and urged women to return to work, in a bid to reassure the wary population fretting over their fate under the Talibani regime.

“A general amnesty has been declared for all…so you should start your routine life with full confidence,” a statement issued by the Taliban said.

Enamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s cultural commission, tried to allay fear among Afghan residents by asserting that the Islamic Emirate, the Taliban’s term for Afghanistan, doesn’t want women to be victims. “They should be in the government structure according to Shariah law,” he said.

Speaking on women’s rights under Taliban rule, the terror outfit’s spokesperson said, “The rights of women in Afghanistan will be respected in accordance with the Islamic Sharia law.”

The Taliban reportedly said that women were the main victims of the crisis in Afghanistan for over 40 years and they don’t want the women to be victims anymore. Samangani said the Taliban wants to provide women with an environment where they can work and study and even join the government “as per Islamic law and our cultural values”.

While the Taliban assured the nation that it respects women’s rights and want them to return to work, the assurance was neither absolute nor unconditional. Instead, it came with a caveat: women’s rights would be respected but only in conformity with the Islamic Sharia Law.

It seems like the Taliban has come of age and evolved as per changing times, shedding its offhanded demeanour and embracing a much more machiavellian and diplomatic approach to control the narrative. Accommodating women’s rights but within the framework of Islamic Sharia Law was a testament to that fact.

Let’s try to understand if women’s rights under Islamic Sharia Law even exist or is it just a chimera that the radical Islamists try to use in their attempt to glorify Sharia and provide a cover for the atrocities that are routinely carried out by Islamists against women and girls.

Sharia allows women to work but with stifling terms and conditions

Hate preacher Dr Zakir Naik, who is hailed by Islamists as one of the most reliable authorities on Islamic teachings and the Holy Quran, has uploaded several videos that debunk the myth about the rights of women under Sharia and brings forth the ugly reality of how the law accords women the inferior status and relegated them to a secondary position.

In a video uploaded in 2017, Naik said women don’t possess absolute rights to work at the place of their choice as the Islamic Sharia. He added that Muslim women don’t have a financial obligation to earn for their family and it is the prerogative of the male family members to look after the family, including lodging, boarding, clothing and other financial requirements of women members of the family.

Naik, however, added that Muslim women can work but by being under the purview of Islamic Sharia. Elaborating on his assertion, Naik said women are allowed to work if they dress suitably—meaning they wear hijab to their workplaces and provided, there is no intermingling of sexes at such places. Naik said Muslim women are permitted to work at places where there is segregation of sexes, with women working along with fellow women and men with their male counterparts. In case there ain’t segregation of sexes at places, wearing a hijab is an absolute must for women, who are also advised to maintain a certain level of purdah or veil at the work.

Discrimination in inheritance: Islamic Sharia ordains half the share of inheritance to women as compared to double to male siblings

Islam always had a troubled relationship with gender equality. This is most glaring in Islamic inheritance jurisprudence. The Islamic Sharia Law allots women half the share of inheritance available to men if they inherit from the same father. For example, where the decedent has both male and female children, a son’s share is double that of a daughter’s.

Even this apparent discrimination and subjugation of women was intellectualised and rationalised by hate preacher Zakir Naik in one of his videos. Naik said since according to Islam men bear the financial responsibility of their family, be it father, or brother, before the marriage of the girl child, and after marriage, the woman’s husband, therefore, it is appropriate that women receive half the inheritance of what men receive.

“As per Quran, son gets double that of a daughter, wife gets half that of husband…The logic behind this is that since the man takes the financial burden, he has to look after the family with the amount he inherits. On the other hand, all the amount that women inherit goes into saving as they are not obligated to spend on the family…If Allah had given an equal inheritance to men and women, I would have had to talk on men’s rights in Islam,” Naik said.

Testimony of a woman is considered half of that of a man

In yet another example of women rights under Islamic Sharia being no more than a sham, the testimony of a woman is considered half of that of a man. In other words, the weight of two female witnesses is equated to the weight of a single male witness, which effectively means that women are not considered “wise enough” or “intelligent enough” or as compared to men to have equal standing in terms of testimony.

And as expected, Zakir Naik has a defence for even this perversity. The Islamic hate preachers says the verse in Quran which equates 2 female witnesses to 1 male witness is exclusive to only financial transactions. He then goes on to resort to the same old refrain that he keeps using to deflect allegations of gender discrimination in Islam. Naik said since in Islam men bore the financial burden of the family and women are not obligated to work, a man is considered to be more financially aware as compared to a woman and therefore, the Holy Quran suggests having 2 male witnesses or 4 women witnesses for overseeing a financial transaction.

Wife-beating in the Muslim world is not necessarily a bad thing

Another contentious provision in the Islamic Sharia Law that runs counter to the modern-day rights of women is the law that allows domestic violence against a wife by her husband. In civilised societies, domestic violence is considered a menace that is a punishable offence. But that is not the case in societies where Islamic Sharia reigns supreme. In such societies and countries, women continue to be treated as second-class citizens, and atrocities against them are sanctioned by the rule of the law.

In another video, Zakir Naik explained the rules governing the disciplining of a disobedient wife. “When your wife does not listen to you, you should warn her. If yet, she does not follow your instruction, you should refuse to share a bed with her. And if she still does not listen to you, you should beat her, though it should be symbolic beating,” Naik said while defending wife bashing as ordained under the Islamic Sharia.

Muslims have the right to have sex with their female slaves

Another Islamic law that deprives women of their dignity and degrades them as mere objects tramples is the provision that allows Muslims to have sex with their female slaves. Islamic literature from medieval times suggest that there were female slaves sold in markets for the specific purpose of meeting the sexual requirements of Muslim men. They were called “slaves for pleasure” or “slave-girls for sexual intercourse”. Many of the female sex slaves became concubines to their owners and bore their children. Others were discarded after the owner had enough sex with them or had grown weary of them.

Zakir Naik had earlier said that Quran allows Muslim men to have sex with female slaves. “The Quran says a man can have sex with his wife and what his right hand possesses. During the time of Prophet, war used to take place and females from the opposite side were taken as captives and made sex slaves,” Naik had said.

He had even cited a verse in Quran, which allowed Muslim men who did not have the means to marry women to have sex by marrying sex slaves and providing them with their freedom. “In this way, Muslim men incapable of marrying women could have sex and even the sex slaves were given their freedom,” Naik said.

AIMPLB Secretary Maulana Rahmani hails Taliban for capturing Afghanistan, calls it ‘extraordinary success’

0

Days after the Islamic terror group the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, a senior cleric of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) not only extended his support to the terror group but also praised the Taliban’s offensive against the Afghan government to capture the war-torn country by force.

Taking to Twitter, Maulana Umrain Mahfuz Rahmani, the Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), posted a tweet in Urdu praising the terror outfit Taliban for their “extraordinary success” in capturing Afghanistan.

The cleric reportedly claimed that the Taliban could capture Afghanistan because the decisions were “made in Heaven and not on Earth”.

“The victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan is enough to show that wars are won with the help of God, not with intelligence and strength,” the AIMPLB Secretary asserted in his tweet.

In another tweet, the cleric added, “The Taliban conquered Afghanistan, not with the power of means and resources, but with the eternal wealth of faith and belief! Moreover, by announcing a general amnesty, the Taliban proved that it belonged to the group of slaves of Muhammad (peace be upon him)”.

The tweet posted by Maulana Umrain Mahfuz Rahmani has created a massive uproar across the country. Following the outrage, Maulana Umrain Mahfuz Rahmani clarified that he put on the tweets in his personal capacity and not as the Secretary of AIMPLB.

Interestingly, the controversial tweets hailing the terror outfit the Taliban by Maulana Rahmani comes just a day after Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rehman Burq had extended his support to the Jihadist organisation by saying that their conquest was akin to India’s freedom movement against British Empire.

Samajwadi Party leader says Taliban rightfully captured their land, compares it to Indian Freedom Movement

On Tuesday, August 17, the Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rehman Burq, who remains in news due to his controversial statements, tried to legitimise the radical Islamist outfit as he opined that the Talibanis have only recaptured the land that originally belonged to them.

Drawing an equivalence between the radical Islamist outfit and India’s freedom fighters, the Samajwadi Party leader had said that as our countrymen fought for freedom from the British, the Taliban also wants to free their country and run it.

“When India was under British rule, our country fought for freedom. Now Taliban wants to free their country & run it”, the SP leader was quoted by ANI as saying.

Further heaping praises for the Jihadist outfit, Shafiqur Rahman Barq added, “Taliban is a force that did not allow even strong countries like Russia and America to settle in their country”.

Taliban takes over Afghanistan

After a month-long offensive against the Afghan army, the Islamist outfit Taliban finally reached the gates of Kabul on Sunday (August 15). They entered Afghanistan’s presidential palace hours after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

Since then surreal scenes have emerged as people try to flee the country to save their lives. Visuals of Afghan people falling from the sky as they tried to escape while hanging on to the wheels of the airplanes have gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the situation in Afghanistan took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening when Vice President of Afghanistan under the Ashraf Ghani government, Amrullah Saleh, staked claim to the presidency of the country as the legitimate caretaker president. He said that as per the constitution of Afghanistan, in the event of the escape, absence, resignation or death of the president, the Vice President becomes the caretaker president.
