As the Indian women’s hockey team scripted history by booking their spot in the semi-finals of the Olympics by beating the Australian team 1-0 in the quarterfinals, Bollywood movie Chak de! India actor Chitrashi Rawat who played the role of Komal Chautala in the movie, called it a deja vu moment.

To celebrate the outstanding performance of the Indian women’s hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics, India Today invited the Chak De! India actress to their show. During the interaction, she told the channel that ever since the girl’s of the India hockey team have made it to the semi-finals, she has been receiving “so many calls”.

She said that it feels like the victory is ours, like what we felt when we were shooting for the movie.

She said that she could relate to what the members of the Indian women hockey team must have felt after their victory as it is quite parallel to what the actors had experienced while enacting the win during the Chak De! India shoot.

“For all of us Chak De girls, it is a month of celebrations, yet again. Our movie Chak De! India released on August 10, 2007, and today (in August) we got the news that our Indian women’s hockey team has created history by entering the semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics. For me, it is like reliving the excitement all over again. I can’t contain my happiness and excitement ever since I woke up and got the news,” Chitrashi Rawat was quoted by TOI as saying.

“This is so nostalgic. While I am extremely proud of what our girls have achieved today and very happy, I can’t help but recall the moments from the games, a practice that we went through when we were shooting the film. I have been seeing pictures, highlights from the recent match and stills from the movie are running as a flashback in my memory”, said the actor. She further added that not only she but everyone who watched Chak De would be drawing a parallel between the stills from the movie and the pictures from the real game in their mind.

Chitrashi Rawat’s remarks have left Netizens rolling their eyes.

One social media user wondered how the actor could draw comparisons between a rehearsed act pulled off in a movie and a real time game.

While some slammed the actor for snatching the credit from the players.

Many rebuked India Today for inviting an actress to talk about the game instead of a real hockey player.

Some slammed India Today for giving importance to ‘reel’ rather than the ‘real’.

A few, however, went with the classic way, sharing interesting memes, to mock the actor and India Today.

Rawat, however, wasn’t the only one to make it about the film. Pro-AAP YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a tweet said, “Our whole generation grew up watching #ChakDeIndia,” and proceeded to add, “That film probably deserves more credit than anything for motivating a generation of amazing Indian women hockey players. Most players would’ve been at a critical childhood age of 10-15 years of age when the film released.” However, after realising the absurdity of his statement, he quietly deleted his tweet.

Chitrashi Rawat, who played the role of Komal Chautala in ‘Chak De! India’, has compared the emotions attached with the entry of the Indian women’s hockey team in the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics with the shooting of the movie.

The actress says that it is a ‘deja vu’ moment for her and somehow manages to draw a comparison with a movie and the actual historic achievement of the women’s hockey team in the Olympics. It is quite inexplicable and bizarre.

Chitrashi Rawat says people are congratulating her for the Indian team’s brilliant performance. But why would they congratulate her? She did not participate in the Olympics. It isn’t even clear why India Today would invite her to speak on the matter.

It would certainly make more sense to have former Hockey players on the panel to speak about their sentiments and the message they have for the team. Comment from the families of the players, or the background of some of the players could also be highlighted.

Chitrashi Rawat says that she has been a state and national level hockey player, which is certainly worthy of much respect, but it is all the more reason for her to recognize how tone deaf her comments were.

Unfortunately, she is not the only person who drew the comparison. Actor Randeep Hooda said that ‘real’ has imitated ‘reel’.

The media itself is the driving force behind the narrative. It is not just India Today that has invited Bollywood stars to speak on the matter, Aaj Tak, too, has invited a ‘Chak De! India’ actress on the occasion.

The whole situation is really quite bizarre. The players of Indian women’s hockey team have managed a historic feat with their accomplishment at the Tokyo Olympics. Given the precious little time and attention that the media focuses on games and sports other than cricket anyway, one would have believed that they would at least find the decency to focus exclusively on the stories of the players on this historic occasion.

But even that was too much to expect from the media. They felt compelled instead to add a Bollywood angle to the story instead. It is a bit like how Bollywood adds ‘item numbers’ to every movie without rhyme or reason just to generate some hype. Here, too, the media decided to invite Bollywood actresses for the heck of it really.

The media would run loud campaigns the entire year asking people to cheer for the Indian players in games other than cricket. But at a time when the country wants to learn more about the players, they decide to dedicate attention to Bollywood stars instead.

Shahrukh Khan himself tried to hog limelight over the matter citing ‘Chak De! India’, however, Sjoerd Marijne did not appear too pleased with the comment and responded with what could only ever be classified with a ‘befitting reply’.

It appears that the entire media is suffering from the ‘Dhruv Rathee’ syndrome. The YouTuber claimed that ‘Chak De! India’ deserves most credit for the victory of Indian women’s hockey team in the quarter finals of the Tokyo Olympics.

Soon after making that tweet, he probably realised how stupid the comment was and removed the tweet. He was mocked widely on social media for it. But it appears that he is not only person who suffers from such deluded notions. It seems the entire media harbours believes it to be so. Common sense, after all, is not so common.

Sjoerd Marijne, head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, has given Shahrukh Khan a befitting reply after the Bollywood actor tried to hog limelight after the team’s brilliant performance at the Tokyo Olympics. The team is now through to the semifinals.

The head coach had shared a photograph with the Indian team with the caption “Sorry family , I coming again later”. Shahrukh Khan quote tweeted it saying, “Haan haan no problem. Just bring some Gold on your way back….for a billion family members. This time Dhanteras is also on 2nd Nov. From: Ex-coach Kabir Khan.”

Sjoerd Marijne did not appear too pleased with the attempt to hog limelight by a movie star who simply acted in a hockey-themed movie. He responded, “Thank you for all the support and love. We will give everything again. From: The Real Coach.”

There has been a concerted attempt by the media to credit ‘Chak De! India’ for the achievement of the Indian women’s hockey team. The trend was started by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee who said the movie deserved more credit than anyone for the team’s success.

He was embarrassed enough by the comment to delete the tweet later. Subsequently, however, actresses of the movie have appeared on news channels and have compared the excitement of the team’s achievement with their acting in the movie.

The comments by the Bollywood actors have received widespread mockery by people on social media.

Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister’s nephew- Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy allegedly came under attack in Tripura on Monday. 

In the video, some men holding BJP flags can be seen trying to stop Banerjee’s car. As Banerjee’s convoy slowed down, one unidentified man tried to smash the windshield of the car with a stick. “Go Back” slogans were also raised against Banerjee by the detractors.

Crying foul, the TMC workers lodged a protest accusing BJP of the attack. One TMC spokesperson Sudip Raha can be heard screaming and hurling sexist comments at the Tripura Police asking them to “wear bangles”.

OSD to Chief Minister of Tripura- Sanjay Mishra took to Twitter to share a video of a TMC worker attacking the media. “Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee’s hooliganism in Tripura. His PSO beats up a local journalist,” he Tweeted.

Posters vandalized on Sunday night

Just ahead of Banerjee’s visit, several posters and banners featuring him and Mamata Banerjee were found torn triggering a war of words. 

TMC leader Ashish Lal Singh who has recently been given charge of Tripura said several posters from the airport to Gorkha Basti were damaged on Sunday night. Accusing BJP of wrongdoings, he threatened to register a protest on the issue. 

However, dismissing the claims made by TMC, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said the party does not consider TMC as a “political competitor”. “They can lodge an FIR if they like. They are coming here to do political tourism but we are just not bothered with them,” he remarked.

Sharing the video of the attack, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee ironically commented on the “democratic situation” of Tripura. “Democracy in Tripura under @BJP4India rule! Well done @BjpBiplab for taking the state to new heights,” he Tweeted. 

Banerjee in his previous Tweet on Tripura Police holding back I-Pac employees for Covid-19 test had claimed that the BJP is scared of TMC.

Abhishek Banerjee is reportedly on a one-day visit to chalk out a new organizational set-up in Tripura to take the BJP head-on in the state. As per reports, Banerjee was to start his journey in Tripura from the famous Mathabari Mandir.

Democracy in West Bengal

After witnessing the gruesome post-poll violence in West Bengal, one can simply not use the words TMC and democracy in a single sentence. 

The NHRC after visiting 311 spots in 20 days and carrying out an extensive inquiry in the matter, concluded that the current situation of the state, is a manifestation of ‘Law of Ruler’, instead of ‘Rule of Law’.

Attaching details of the same, the NHRC report stated that it collected a whopping 1979 number of complaints from 23 districts where incidents of violence had taken place post-Mamata Banerjee’s May 2 win. The number of complaints is still on a rise. From lynchings to hanging BJP workers to death to gangrape of BJP supporters, the state has been marred by violence by the TMC for almost three months now. 

Victims threatened of dire consequences 

Enough and more victims of rape and sexual assault are being pressurized to take back their complaints especially after the matter sub judice in the Supreme Court. 

In an interview with OpIndia, a victim of the brutal barbarism unleashed by the TMC revealed how after being gangraped she was being threatened even after the incident.

Ritu also revealed that the police are hand in gloves with the TMC in West Bengal. She and her father are now being threatened and forced to join the TMC. 

“TMC leaders are constantly threatening us by saying ‘Agar tum TMC mein nahi aaye… to tumahre ghar ko jala denge..papa aur tumko maar denge… Police ke paas jaoge to police bhi tumahara rape karegi agar unhe pata chal gaya ki tum BJP ki ho to.. Police bhi tumahari baat nahi sunegi,” she said. 

She further said, “I m not only one there many other women who have faced the same fate in the village but they are scared and terrorized not to come forward. We thought of going to the police the next day but the police were already in collusion with TMC leaders. They were helping them so due to fear we did not go to them”.

Author Vikram Sampath recently came up with his concluding volume on freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, Savarkar: A Contested Legacy, 1924-1966. The book was released on 26 July 2021 and it instantly rekindled the debate surrounding the concerted attempts made by successive Congress governments and left-liberal intelligentsia to falsely vilify the freedom fighter and besmirch his reputation.

In his recent interview with Times Now, Sampath brought forth the hypocrisy of the left-leaning intellectuals, who portray themselves to be the custodian of free speech and expression but find no qualms in squelching dissenting opinions. Referring to the dismissal of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar from All India Radio, Sampath highlighted how the Congress governments and their leaders ostracised Veer Savarkar and penalised those who did not conform to their vilification of the freedom fighter.

“Liberals don’t allow a different point of view to thrive. In India particularly, there is a very narrow narrative that needs to be pushed when it comes to history,” historian Vikram Sampath said.

Sampath further added that several aspects of Indian history have been hidden, most notably the pogrom of Brahmins in Maharashtra that followed the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He accused then Congress leaders of being behind the anti-Brahmin pogrom and added that pages of history have been deliberately deleted.

“In post-independent India, there has been one dominant hegemonic version of history particularly of the freedom movement, invasions and troubling aspects of our long and stormy past,” he said.

Regarding Savarkar, Sampath said even after it was proved that he had no links to the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, a narrative was weaved to project him as one of the co-conspirators of Gandhi’s assassination.

He further added voices that spoke in favour of Veer Savarkar were muzzled and a “cancel culture” was promoted against those who glorified Savarkar or did not hew to the Congress’ narrative of the Hindutva ideologue. This rendered Savarkar and his supporters persona non grata, Sampath said.

Sampath recounted the instance when the Congress government sacked the legendary music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar from All India Radio because it was based on Veer Savarkar’s Marathi song.

Hridaynath and his sisters, Lata Mangeshkar and Usha Mangeshkar, had been composing tunes based on poems written by Veer Savarkar. However, this did not sit well with the Congress party, which had assiduously created a narrative that villainised the freedom fighter. As a result, the All India Radio under the Congress rule fired Hridaynath Mangeshkar for his musical composition on Veer Savarkar’s poems.

Years later, in an interview with ABP Majha, Hridaynath Mangeshkar admitted how he was fired from All India Radio because he chose to compose a poem written by Veer Savarkar. About 53 minutes into the interview, Mangeshkar shares the anecdote when he was canned from his job at the All India Radio, only because he had dared to create a musical rendition of Veer Savarkar’s iconic poem wherein he extolled the sea to take him back to the motherland.

“I was working in All India Radio at that time. I was 17 years old and my salary was Rs 500 per month. It may be peanuts today but Rs 500 was considered a big fat salary during that time…but I was summarily fired from the All India Radio because I chose to create a musical composition for Veer Savarkar’s famous poem ‘Ne majsi ne parat matrubhoomila, sagara pran talmalala‘,” Mangeshkar said in Marathi.

‘No comments’: Shilpa Shetty releases official statement in Raj Kundra porn racket case

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra decided to break her silence and issue an official statement in connection with the porn racket case involving her husband and business magnate Raj Kundra. In the statement she said she would not like to make any comment in the case.

This is the actress first public statement since her husband’s arrest on July 19, 2021. The Bollywood actress took to her official social media handles to share the same.

In her statement, Shilpa Shetty maintained that she has not commented yet and will continue to refrain from doing so as the case against her husband is subjudice.

She has asked her fans to continue believing in her assuring that she would never let them down. She says that the last few days have been very difficult for her and her family on every front. They have been subjected to a lot of trolling. A lot of “rumours and accusations and unwarranted aspersions” have been cast on her and her family by the “media and (not so) well-wishers as well”.

The Bollywood actor claimed that a lot of false quotes have been attributed to her and half-baked information, whose veracity has not been verified, have been doing the rounds since the arrest of her husband.

Shetty urged people to refrain from believing rumours and respect her and her family’s ‘right to privacy’. She said she is a law-abiding citizen and does not deserve a media trial.

Placing her trust in Mumbai police and the Indian judiciary, Shilpa Shetty said her family is taking recourse to all available legal remedies.

Reiterating her philosophy as a celebrity of never complaining, never explaining, the Bollywood actress said she will continue to stick to her stand of ‘not commenting’ on the matter.

It may be recalled that Shilpa Shetty Kundra had on July 30, approached High Court asking for restrictions against defamatory content on social media and websites following her husband Raj Kundra’s arrest in a pornography case. The actor said in her plea that her public image has taken a hit after the controversy and demanded an unconditional apology from certain media houses. The actor also asked for the removal of stories and videos with defamatory content and asked for compensation of Rs 25 crore.

The Bombay High Court had, however, refused to grant an interim order saying that news reports based on police sources cannot be deemed defamatory.

Assam police withdraw FIR against Mizo leaders as ‘goodwill gesture’, criminal proceedings against Mizo police to continue

On Monday (August 2), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the State police to withdraw cases against Mizo leaders as a ‘goodwill gesture’ amidst the friction caused during the Assam-Mizoram conflict.

In a tweet, he acknowledged, “I have noted statements in media by Honble CM Zoramthanga wherein he has expressed his desire to settle the border dispute amicably. Assam always wants to keep the spirit of North East alive. We are also committed to ensuring peace along our borders.”

In order to resolve the ongoing conflict with Mizoram, he has directed the withdrawal of the First Information Report (FIR) against Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena. However, he clarified that the cases against the Mizo police officers, responsible for the death of 6 Assam police personnel, will be pursued.

Special Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh further informed, “Reference Assam Police Dholai PS Case of Cachar district against Mizoram police and other unknown persons, action against Sri K. Vanlalvena, Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha from Mizoram has been abated. This has been done at the instruction of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in the interest of de-escalation of the tension along the border. However, criminal proceedings against erring police personnel of Mizoram police and other miscreants shall continue.”

FIR against Himanta Biswa Sarma and 6 Assam police officers

On Friday (July 30), the Mizoram government has filed a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and six other officers under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) at the Vairengte Police Station in Kolasib district of Mizoram, an area that borders Cachar district of Assam. The Assam Chief Minister and the officials were booked for an attempt to murder, concealing design to commit the offence, grievous hurt, assault and using criminal force against public servants. The Assam police officers were summoned for questioning at Vairengte Police Station on August 1.

Besides Sarma, the Mizoram police have also named Assam Inspector General Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General Devojyoti Mukherjee, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, Cachar Superintendent of Police (former) Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, Forest Officer Sunnydeo Choudhury, the officer in charge of Dholai police station Sahab Uddin, and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel.

Batalik and other remote Aryan valley villages in Ladakh to receive uninterrupted power supply first time since independence

Ahead of the 75th Independence Day, an engineering feat pulled off by the state-run transmission utility PowerGrid has made it possible for remote villages in the Aryan valley in Kargil district in Ladakh to plug into the national electricity network. These areas would be able to now enjoy 24X7 uninterrupted power supply. Until now, the Aryan villages were dependent on the power supplied from diesel generators, providing the villagers electricity only for 5-6 hours in the evening.

Under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme for rural electrification, the Indian government electricity board commissioned a 40-kilometre transmission line successfully in Ladakh connecting Lalung, Silmoo, Batalik, Darchik, Hurdass, Sinikcey and Garkon and adjoining villages between Lalung to Darchik. With this, all villages in the Aryan Valley of Kargil district are now connected to the National Grid through the 220 KV Srinagar-Leh transmission line.

Batalik was one of the focus areas in the 1999 Kargil conflict due to its strategic location.

The link will now ensure that these villages get a 24X7 power supply thus enhancing the quality of life of the people living there along with boosting tourism. It will also enable people to productively tap the areas food processing potential.

This dream could be only changed into reality because of the Srinagar-Leh transmission line inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2019. More than 70 years after Independence, a 350 km long 220-kv line was drawn to connect Ladakh to the national electricity network, making ‘One Nation, One Grid, One Frequency‘ a reality. This 350 km long 220-kv line is said to be the fulcrum of rural electrification in Ladakh.

It is pertinent to note here that the central government, had recently approved intra-state transmission works at a revised cost of Rs 1309.71 crore to link far-flung villages of Ladakh to the grid. The project which has been approved by the Modi government includes 220 KV S/C transmission lines of D/C tower (total 307 km), including Kargil-Padum (Zanskar) (207 km) and Phyang to Diskit (Nubra) (100 km) and two 220/33 KV Grid substation – one each at Diskit, Nubra (50 MVA) and Padum, Zanskar (50 MVA) with an outlay of INR 1309.71 crore.

“These transmission lines will link far-flung villages to the Grid and phase out DG sets used in far-flung villages, thus taking one more step towards achieving Carbon Neutrality in Ladakh. This will also provide the Army and far-flung villages with clean power round the clock,” Lt Governor RK Mathur had said while congratulating the people of Ladakh on the approval of the project on May 29, 2021.

Besides, the Modi government has also decided to set up 5,000 MW and 2,500 MW solar power projects in Ladakh and Kargil respectively, under its clean energy initiative. According to the reports, the proposed plan to install 5,000 MW of solar energy in Ladakh will make it the largest single-location solar photovoltaic plant in the world. The solar power projects in Ladakh and Kargil are slated to be completed by 2023 at an estimated investment of Rs 45,000 crore.

On August 2, several journalists, Congress leaders and other prominent ‘intellectuals’ took a dig at the Union Government over an order issued on May 20, 2021 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s General Administration Department. The order concerned the dismissal of Davinder Singh, Superintendent of Police, who was under suspension at the time for his alleged links to terrorist organisations.

The questions raised over a specific paragraph in the order

The second paragraph of the order read that the Lieutenant Governor was satisfied under Article 311(2) of the Constitution of India that there was no need for further enquiry in the case of Davinder Singh in the interest of the National Security and his dismissal came into effect immediately. Without understanding what the law says, several journalists, Congress and other opposition party leaders and some high-profile intellectuals raised questions regarding the Union Government, Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The order caught the eye of one Anand, who goes by the username anandexplores on Twitter. He wrote a thread on the said order on August 1 in which he said, “Remember Davinder Singh, the terrorist who was ferrying other terrorists to Delhi for an attack. Read the second para – ‘In the interest of the security of the State’. The Governor that is the Union Government of India under Narendra Modi doesn’t want an enquiry on the Terrorist Davinder Singh.”

He further added, “You know what ‘In the interest of the security of the State’ means!! Is it nothing else than the state’s (read Modi Government’s & his henchman Doval’s) complicity in the terrorist activity? Or terrorism doesn’t need enquiries anymore?

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala was among the first to raise questions against the Union Government. In a August 1 tweet, he asked several questions. He said, “Who is J&K Dy. S.P, Devinder Singh? Why can’t Govt hold an enquiry? Why does the enquiry threaten National Security? What is his role, if any, in Pulwama? Who was he arrested with? What’s the name of his accomplices? What is the Modi Govt hiding?” He ended his tweet by saying that the nation has the right to know the answer to all these questions.

National Editor and Diplomatic Affairs Editor of The Hindu, Suhasini Haider, was “shocked” over the order. She said, “Truly shocking…while hundred languish in jail for years on false charges of terrorism, the State is going out of its way to let a Police officer, caught in the act of transport terrorists in order to allegedly carry out an act of terror, a free pass out of any enquiry?”

Aam Aadmi Party Social Media Team member Kapil wrote, “‘Ferrying terrorists to Delhi for an attack’ in Jan ’20, just a few days before Delhi Elections, when the conditions were highly volatile due to Shaheen Bagh protests! You don’t need to be Einstein to understand whose planning it was! Now GOI doesn’t want an enquiry against him.”

Journalist Aditya Menon alleged that there was always a possibility that Singh would be let off lightly. He said, “This was always the threat – that Davinder Singh will be dismissed as a one-off case and let off lightly. It merited a full-fledged inquiry into whose orders Davinder was acting under and whether our security establishment is complicit with terrorists.”

Ravi Nair, columnist for The Wire, Newsclick and Janata ka Reporter, said, “Devinder Singh, the infamous DSP of J&K police, who was accused of having terror links, was dismissed from the service on 21 May. The government decided that “in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold an enquiry in the case of Mr Devinder Singh.”

Congress supporter Sanjukta Basu quoted a report by Telegraph and said, “J&K cop Devinder Singh is dismissed for colluding with terrorists, but no further investigation is to be done because of the money trail and terror connections may directly lead to Modi Shah Doval. Opp should take this to Court.”

Journalist Aurangzeb Naqshbandi questioned the government and said, “No inquiry against Devinder Singh “in the interest of the security of the state”. मामला गड़बड़ है! (There is something fishy).

No one tried to understand Article 311

The order has cited Article 311 clearly in the second paragraph. While everyone took the phrase “no further enquiry required” out of context, sufficient attention was not paid to what the law says. According to Article 311 Clause (2), Sub-Clause (c) inquiry is not required in some cases while dismissing a government employee. To understand the importance of the sub-clause, it is essential to understand Article 311 itself.

Article 311 deals with the dismissal, removal or reduction in rank of persons employed in civil capacities under the Union or the State. The law states that a civil servant can be dismissed only by someone who is of the equal or higher rank from the person who has appointed the person of interest. It also states that before dismissing, removing or reducing the rank, there should be an inquiry where he should be informed of the charges against him and should be given a reasonable opportunity to put his side of the story.

However, in the interest of National Security, some clauses allow the government without holding such inquiries. Under the sub-clause (C) of clause (2) of the said Act, if the President or the Governor is satisfied that in the interest of the National Security, the person can be dismissed or removed without any inquiry. NIA has already filed a chargesheet against Davinder Singh

Notably, National Investigation Agency had already submitted a chargesheet against Davinder Singh in July 2020. His name was included in the chargesheet against six people, including Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorist Syed Naveed. In June 2020, NIA had confirmed that it had “adequate evidence” against the rogue cop and would be filing a charge-sheet against him in due course of time. He was arrested under the anti-terror UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) law.

Davinder Singh’s terror connection

It was reported that DSP Davinder Singh, who was on the payroll of the Islamic terror organisation, had been taking money not only for transporting and sheltering Naveed but was also receiving money on a regular basis from the terrorist for extending assistance throughout the year. Singh was involved in multiple operations of trapping and killing militants or forcing their arrest or surrender.

The other accused in the case are two Hizb-ul terrorists Naveed Mushtaq alias Babu, Rafi Ahmed Rather and lawyer Irfan Shafi Mir. The three were arrested with the DSP from a checkpoint on the highway at Wanpoh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The fifth person to be arrested was Naveed’s brother Irfan Mushtaq. He was held on January 23 for allegedly being part of the conspiracy, and the sixth accused arrested in the case was the ex-president of cross-LoC trade Tanveer Ahmed Wani.

Dismissal of 11 government employees in July

In July 2021, 11 govt employees, including sons of terror org Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin were fired in a terror funding case. All eleven were dismissed as per the provisions provided under Article 311 of the constitution.

‘Eminent’ YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has had a brainfart once again, and its ripples can be felt far and wide across social media. According to him, the movie ‘Chak de! India’ deserves most credit for the brilliant performance of the Indian women’s hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics.

The spectacular bit of stupidity came after the Indian women’s hockey team entered the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics with a 1-0 victory over Australia. Dhruv Rathee said, “Our whole generation grew up watching #ChakDeIndia,” and proceeded to add, “That film probably deserves more credit than anything for motivating a generation of amazing Indian women hockey players. Most players would’ve been at a critical childhood age of 10-15 years of age when the film released.”

Probably realising that not even his fans are stupid enough to buy his argument, Dhruv Rathee quietly deleted the tweet. But that could not save him from the mockery that has ensued on social media.

Nevertheless, it does appear that Dhruv Rathee is the kind of person who would credit the movie ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ for inspiration should the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) decide to launch a research initiative to discover extra terrestrial life in the Universe.

Ordinary mortals such as ourselves would credit the players, the team management and the coach for the great feat that the Hockey players have achieved in the Tokyo Olympics. But a legend like Rathee obviously has much more valuable insight to offer. Naturally, he credits Shahrukh Khan, director Shimit Amin and producer Aditya Chopra for making the film ‘Chak De! India’ because, obviously, why not.

Nonetheless, it is not the first time that Rathee has had such bouts of divine wisdom. The YouTube ‘legend’ had also made a video on Israel and Palestine during the conflict between the two nations and suggested the unification of the two under a single country ‘Isratine’. He had also suggested that it was the Police which permitted the Khalistani anti-farm law protesters to enter the Red Fort on Republic Day and hoist a Sikh Flag.
