Congress leaders and supporters use old photographs to attack Modi government on farmer protests

Today farmers from Punjab marched towards Delhi protesting against the recently passed farm reform bills. The farmers were stopped on their way in Haryana by police, using teargas and water cannons. Both Delhi and Haryana police were ready with blockades to prevent the protesters from reaching Delhi. The images of farmers clashing with police were published by media. However, several Congress leaders and affiliated accounts chose to use old photographs to attack the Modi government accusing of mistreating farmers. The Congress sycophants used old farmer protests images from 2018 from Delhi-UP border.

The official Twitter account of the youth wing of the Indian National Congress (IYC) was the first to use old images of 2018 farmers protest to insinuate how farmers are being ill-treated today. Two out of the four pictures used by Congress are that of 2018.

This got the ball rolling for other Congress leaders and the party loyalists. Congress MP Manish Tewari, sharing the same images, Tweeted: “Our farmers right to peacefully protest has become punishable with water cannons & police deployments under @BJP4India’s rule! Misleading & cheating them since 6yrs, this govt is now resorting to force against them-this is BJP’s way of celebrating #ConstitutionDay!

Hussain Haidry, who the “liberal-secular” ecosystem considers to be an emerging poet, who has left no opportunity to disparage Modi Government also jumped on to the bandwagon. Sharing the pictures, Haidry wrote that since it wouldn’t be proper to fly confetti on the Constitution day, the BJP government has decided to ruin the constitution itself.

Likewise, the NSUI’s national secretary Varun Choudhary also used the same old images to discredit Modi government.

Many other loyalists followed in the footsteps. Congress supporters like Tehseen Poonawalla and Prashant Kanojia had also shared the same images to cast aspersions on Modi government but deleted their Tweets later on being called out.

The truth behind the pictures

The pictures which were used by the Youth Congress and then mechanically copied by rest of the Congress coteries are actually from the year 2018. Two of the photos used by IYC showed water cannons and barricades being deployed by the police to disperse protestors from the gathering. The third photo showed an unidentified dead man, while the fourth one showed a large number of people on the streets.

The reverse image search of two of the four photos showed that the picture was indeed that of 2018 which Congress maliciously attempted to pass off as current.

Image 1: An October 2, 2018 report from The Hindu titled ‘Farmers’ rally to capital turns violent’ carrying the same image as its lead.

Image 2: The results leads to a report from The Quint dated October 3, 2018.

Congress, a repeat offender

However, this is an old habit which the Congress party often indulges in to malign the government. Recently, amidst the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Congress had Tweeted two old videos trying to insinuate that BJP government is completely merciless and indifferent towards the marginalised section of the society who have been hit drastically during the lockdown.

On May 12, taking to Twitter, Congress’ SC department shared an old image of a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh to attack the central government for its alleged inefficiency of handling of the migrant worker’s issue. Sharing the image through the official Twitter handle, Dalit Congress wrote that Modi govt should envisage the helplessness to the faces of these people and do something to help them. However, Twitter user Ankur Singh was quick to spot the lie. Sharing a screenshot of a news report from 2017, the Twitter user pointed out that this image is of some Rohingya refugees in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh, taken in 2017.

Pakistani man gets AK-47 rifle as wedding gift from his mother-in-law, video goes viral

0

A video has been doing rounds on social media in which a groom was seen receiving an AK-47 rifle on his wedding way as people cheer in the background. The video is said to be from a Pakistani wedding where the mother-in-law of the groom gave the ‘unique’ gift to the groom as shagun. The date and the exact location of the video is not known.

In the video, the mother-in-law first caressed the groom and then someone handed her the rifle. The groom as all as the mother-in-law were all smiles as she gifted him the lethal wedding gift and posed for the camera. The bride can be seen subtly giggling at her mother’s gesture.

It is notable that nobody in the video seemed to be surprised at such a dangerous gift. The groom acted as it was a normal wedding gift, the bride also had a subtle smile on face, neither surprised nor shocked, and the guests in the wedding were cheering the woman for the choice of the gift. Perhaps it is not unusual to gift assault rifles in weddings in that part of Pakistan.

One wonders when the groom will get to use that gift. Kalashnikov rifles are often found in possession of terrorists coming from the other side of the LOC. An AK-47 rifle does not sound like a very pleasant gift for a wedding but nothing seems abnormal when seen in the context of parody country Pakistan.

Although gifting a assault rifle in an wedding is indeed unusual, guns do have close relations with weddings in Pakistan and several other countries, including India. Guns are regularly fired in the air during weddings and other celebrations, which sometimes cause accidents, killing and injuring people.

Saudi Arabia Prince had gifted gold plated AK-47 to Imran Khan

Last year in January, Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia had gifted a gold-plated Kalashnikov rifle and bullets to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. It was, however, not clear whether the gold plated rifle was a functional one or just a replica as gold plated arms are often made for collection purposes and are used as gifts.

Minor gang-raped, forced conversion to Islam, threats, caste abuse: Details of 11 cases in which UP SIT, formed to probe Love Jihad, found criminality

The phenomena of Grooming Jihad (Love Jihad) has been spreading its tentacles over the country, especially in the western fringe of Uttar Pradesh. Recently, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh saw a spate of cases involving the forced conversions of Hindu women to Islam on the pretext of marriage reported from the city, especially in Kanpur’s Juhi colony. To curb this growing menace, the Kanpur police under the guidance of the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh formed a special investigating team (SIT), which has been working to probe the allegations of ‘Love Jihad’ and forced conversion in the state.

On November 24, the SIT submitted its report to the Kanpur range inspector general, after probing 14 cases lodged in the police stations across Kanpur district over the last one year. It is pertinent to note that the SIT only picked up 14 cases which were reported by the media in the year. The report was not meant to be a comprehensive list of all cases in the city of Kanpur.

Shortly afterwards Left media began their attempts to discredit the entire phenomena of ‘Love Jihad’ by misreporting the SIT report. One of the first portals to misreport the SIT finding was Left propaganda portal, The Wire. The Wire claimed that the ‘polarising campaign’ the Uttar Pradesh Govt was trying to carry out in the name of ‘love jihad’ turned out to be a damp squib, as the SIT report it had accessed said that 8 out of the 14 cases were consensual.

NDTV Hindi also shared the news with a misleading headline claiming that the Uttar Pradesh police have not found the Love Jihad angle in any of the 14 cases it probed.

NDTV Hindi report published on November 24

These claims are, however, untrue. Even the Uttar Pradesh police have gone on record and confirmed that they have found criminality in 11 out of 14 cases.

OpIndia accessed the SIT report and the findings of the report is a scathing indictment of how Muslim men have been subjugating Hindu women. Listed below are the details of the 11 cases probed by the SIT, where criminality was found, but was dismissed by the Left media.

Case 1: Muslim man pretends to be Hindu to trap a 14-year-old girl, rapes the girl, forces to convert to Islam

In the first cases listed in the SIT report, a case was registered in Kanpur’s Naubasta PS against one Fateh Khan who had pretended to be Aryan Mehrotra to trap a 14-year-old Hindu girl in Kanpur’s Gopal Nagar. The incident came to the fore on September 8. According to the SIT report, Fateh Khan alias Aryan Mehrotra (25) was arrested on September 9 and charged under IPC sections 376 and 420 and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

As per the victim’s complaint, recorded under section 164 of CrPc, Fateh Khan had pretended to be a Hindu to entrap the minor victim and thereafter had raped her on September 6. The Muslim man also beat up the minor girl and threatened her, while raping her, that if she screamed, her parents would also be harmed. The accused was in the possession of two Aadhar cards, one in the name of Fateh Khan and the other in the name of Aryan Mehrotra.

The SIT report also reveals that Fateh Khan pressurised the victim to convert to Islam and got her Aadhar card made in the name of Mariyam Fatima.

OpIndia had reported the case on the 8th of September 2020.

Case 2: Muslim man pretended to be a Hindu to trap a minor Hindu girl, brainwash and tried to force her to convert to Islam.

The second cases listed in the SIT report had also been reported in the Police Station in Naubasta, Kanpur. In this case, another Muslim man named Mohammed Ubais aka Babu posed as a Hindu to entrap a 16-year-old minor Hindu girl. In this case, IPC sections 363, 366 and 386 and section 7/8 of the POCSO Act was invoked against the culprit.

On October 15, a complaint was registered against Mohammed Wais aka Babu, in which he was accused was trying to kidnap the minor girl with the help of his sister Mahi Hayat Khan. The accused along with his sister tried to brainwash and pressurise the minor victim to adopt Islam. The girl was rescued by her mother and the accused was sent to jail.

In this case, interestingly, the girl has told the court that the sister of the Muslim man she was talking to called her down from her house and took her to a Mosque. Thereafter, she was told that if she utters three words, she would convert to Islam. When she refused, they were seemingly attempting to kidnap her when she was rescued.

Case 3: Minor Hindu girl brainwashed to elope with a Muslim man

In the third case probed by the SIT, a Muslim youth named Shahrukh was arrested on September 2, 2020 after the family of a 16-year-old minor Hindu girl had lodged a complaint on July 27 in Naubasta PS alleging that the accused befriended the minor girl, who slowly fell into his trap and agreed to elope with him.

It is interesting that the Left media would find the brainwashing and subjugation of minor girls by Muslim men a ‘consensual relationship’, as The Wire reported. One has to recall the Grooming Gang cases in the UK where Muslim men were accused and convicted of brainwashing minor girls and forcing them to adopt Islam after raping them repeatedly. It is also for this reason that OpIndia had decided to use ‘Grooming Jihad’ as an all-encompassing term rather than using ‘Love Jihad’.

Case 4: Muslim man kidnapped minor Dalit girl, forced her to convert to Islam, threatened her with consequences if she refused advances

The report on the fourth case probed by the SIT also concludes that one Muslim man named Arif kidnapped a 14-year-old Dalit girl and took her to Azamgarh and then Delhi where he sexually exploited her and tried to convert her to Islam. The victim had said that the accused had threatened her of dire consequences in case she resented or refused his advances.

It is evident from the girl’s statement that Arif and she knew each other. He made her sit in her truck saying that he will drop her, but instead, kidnapped her and took her to different places, raping her, exploiting her and trying to convert her to Islam.

A case against the accused was registered in Kapnpur’s Naubasta PS. He was arrested and IPC sections 363, 366 and section 3(2)5 of the SC/ST Act was invoked.

Case 5: Muslim man pretended to be a Hindu, married Hindu woman with fake papers

In the next case, a 32-year-old Mukhtar Ahmed faked his identity and introduced himself as Rahul Singh to befriend a 20-year-old Hindu girl in Kanpur’s Naubasta district. The man lured and brainwashed the Hindu girl. Ahmed prepared fake documents and married the girl in court. He had also hidden his first marriage from the victim. A case was registered against the accused under IPC sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 and he was sent to jail.

Case 6: Muslim man brainwashes, forces Hindu woman to accept Islam, family alleges ‘black magic’ used

On August 27, 2020, a case was registered against Asif Shah alias Nazim, a resident of Jajmau in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The family of 18-year-old Muskaan Tiwari had said in their complaint registered at the Govind Nagar PS that Asif had physically abused Muskaan, threatened and intimidated her to convert into Islam and marry him.

The family of the girl also accused the Muslim boy and his family of brainwashing Muskaan into embracing Islam with the use of ‘black magic’ and some occult practices. Kanpur police arrested Asif on September 14 and charged him under IPC Section 366. The girl in her statement had confessed that the accused had converted her religion and married her. She also accused him of sexually exploiting her without her consent.

OpIndia had extensively reported the case.

Case 7: 16-year-old Hindu girl lured to marry Muslim man after she was portrayed as a 19-year-old

Next case has been reported from Kanpur’s Govind Nagar, where a Muslim youth named Sadeeq Ali, son of Sadaam hailing from Kacchi Basti in Govind Nagar, Kanpur was accused of luring and eloping with a Hindu girl who was claimed to be 19-years-old. The complaint against Sadeeq Ali was filed by the victim’s family on December 13, 2019.

In her statement, the victim had claimed that she was an adult and had gone with the accused on her own free will. However, her medical examination revealed that she was 16 -year-old. Accordingly, relevant sections of the POCSO Act was included in the case and the accused was sent to jail.

Case 8: Muslim man trapped a minor Hindu girl, sexually exploited her and abandoned her

The next case in which the SIT found criminality transpired in July last year in Kanpur’s Babu Purwa district, where a Muslim youth named Salman befriended a 14-year-old minor girl, who eloped with him to Delhi. Salman sexually exploited the minor girl. He later deserted her and returned home. Based on the victim’s family’s missing complaint a case was registered and Salman was nabbed on September 27, 2019, and sent to jail. Along with IPC sections 366 and 367, relevant sections of the POCSO Act were also included in the case against Salman.

Case 9: Muslim man threatened minor Dalit girl, forcefully converted her to Islam, tortured her

In the next case, the family of a 16-year-old Dalit girl alleged that one Adil Khan, a resident of Kanpur’s Chakeri district, lured the girl and forcefully converted her to Islam. They also accused Adil Khan of forcefully keeping the victim in his house and torturing her. The minor girl in her statement revealed that the Muslim youth forced her to sign some papers. He threatened her with death if she rejected his proposal. He confined her in a room and sexually abused her.

Adil used to also beat up and abuse the minor girl. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family on September 2, 2020, Kanpur police arrested Adil Khan on September 3, 2020. He was sent to jail under IPC sections 363, 366, 295A, 342, 323, 504, 506, section 16/17 pf the POCSO Act and 3(2)5 SC/ST Act.

Case 10: While elder sister says went with Muslim man ‘consensually’, her Minor sister says she was gang-raped by the Muslim men

The next case was reported from Juhi colony, Kalyanpur in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where two Shahrukhs were accused of luring two sisters from the Kalyanpur on July 2. The victims were aged 19 and 14. The girls had confessed that they had gone with the accused on their own will and admitted of having physical relations with them.

However, her younger sister, who was only 14 years old, said that she was gang-raped by the Muslim men.

Relevant section of the POCSO Act was included along with IPC sections 376D, 363, 366 and 120B and the accused were sent to jail.

Case 11: The tale of two Dalit sisters and 2 Muslim men who were pressurising them

Two Dalit sisters, aged 25 and 22, hailing from Kanpur’s Panki Ratanpur colony, fled with accused Mohd Mohsin Khan and Aamir. They are also residents of Kanpur’s Juhi colony. The complaint stated that Mohsin befriended the elder sister posing as Sameer, and then married her. His friend Aamir became friendly with the younger sister the girl, but the girl realised their game plan and stopped meeting him. She was then threatened with dire consequences if she did not marry Aamir. They also threatened then with dire consequences if they did not convert to Islam.

In the SIT report, it is mentioned that casteist abuses were also hurled at the girls when they were being forced to convert to Islam.

In the statement by the girl, she says that she married Mohsin in a temple and then was living in her own house. They tried to get married in the court, but it did not work out. Thereafter, she was made to sign on a Nikahnamma, but she was not aware of what she was signing on. Thereafter, Sameer’s friend Amir befriended the younger sister and started pressurising her.

The girls’ father approached Inspector General (IG) Kanpur, Mohit Agarwal, who set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Superintendent of Police south Deepak Bhuker, to probe the matter. A case was also registered at the Panki police station. Mohsin Khan and Aamir were arrested under IPC sections 295A, 386, 504, 506, 507 and section 3(1) of the SC/ST Act and sent to jail.

In all the above 11 cases, the SIT has found certain transgressions based on which the accused have been arrested and sent to jail. Pertinently, out of these 11 cases, in 7 cases the victims are minors. This number includes the case reported from Juhi colony, Kalyanpur in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where two Shahrukhs were accused of luring two sisters from the Kalyanpur on July 2, since one of the sisters was a minor. Moreover, in 3 of the above cases, the victim belongs to the scheduled caste.

It is interesting to note that Left media thinks that with 7 minor victims, there is no pattern here that is worth reporting on. 7 minor victims were lured and some of them were forced to convert to Islam. One of the victims was also gang-raped by Muslim men. In all of this, portals like The Wire seem to see ‘consent’ as an element that according to them, proves that Grooming Jihad (Love Jihad) does not exist.

It is surprising that despite police confirmation that they have found criminality in 11 out of 14 cases and moreover, the SIT report attesting the police statement, the self-proclaimed “liberals” and the leftist media industry are still trying to prove that the phenomena of Grooming Jihad or Love Jihad is a figment of the right-wing imagination.

Partying in 2008, ignoring now: Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the 26/11 Mumbai attacks continues

On the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of the November 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, several Indians took to various social platforms to remember the cowardly terror attack that was unleashed by Pakistan on Indian soil killing more than 170 people and injured 300 others.

On 26th November 2008, 10 Islamic terrorists from Pakistan had sneaked inside the country to create havoc in the country for four long, un-ending days. Shooting and bombing several locations in the financial capital of India, Mumbai, the terrorists left a trail of blood. Between 26/11 and 29th November 2008, not just 167 lives were lost, but the entire nation was gripped in fear and worry.

Sadly, even as the country remembers 26/11 in horror and mourns the trail of dead bodies, Gandhi-scion Rahul Gandhi has maintained a stoic silence. The usually social-media-savvy Congress prince did not even share a tweet in remembrance of the victims of Mumbai terror attack.

The Congress party had shared a token rememberance.

However, Rahul Gandhi has decided to maintain silence. Strangely, Rahul Gandhi, who is otherwise rather active, has not tweeted or retweeted any tweets connecting to Mumbai attacks. He instead a put out a tweet to condemn against the police action against the alleged protest by Punjab farmers near the Haryana-Punjab border.

So while his Twitter account is active, not one tweet or statement has been made by the part-time politician. His other recent tweets are condolence and obituary messages on the demise of footballer Diego Maradona, Congress leader Ahmed Patel and Dr Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, a Shia leader and Islamic scholar.

However, Rahul Gandhi’s insensitive conduct is not surprising anymore. Even, in 2019, he had not made any statement remembering the carnage that was unleashed by Pakistan or paying tributes to the victims that fell to the terror attack.

Partying after 26/11

Ironically, on the day when Pakistani terrorists slaughtered Indians on the streets of Mumbai, the crown prince of Gandhi parivar Rahul Gandhi was partying in a farm house in Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi was partying in the outskirts of Delhi at the ‘sangeet’ for the wedding of Samir Sharma, his childhood friend. They were at a sprawling farmhouse at Radhey Mohan Chowk.

According to India Today’s 2008 article, “Saturday night’s ‘sangeet’ was a lavish affair. It was hosted by Leena Musafir, sister of the woman with whom Samir is getting married, and her husband Inder. The party was attended by over 800 guests, including regulars at Page 3 dos. “When everyone is cancelling parties or just keeping them low-key, Rahul Gandhi had no business to be celebrating.”

The article further reads, “His action makes us lose faith in future leaders,” said Ajay Bahl, a leading corporate lawyer who was trapped in the thick of the action on 26/11 at The Oberoi, Mumbai, but managed to escape with the help of the hotel staff. The Gandhis, including Sonia Gandhi’s mother Paola Maino, were present in strength at the 2004 wedding of Samir’s sister, Sarika, who is married to actor turned- TV producer Rahul Bhatt. Sarika and Rahul now manage a television production house”.

With the kind of insensitivity that Rahul Gandhi displayed even as the 26/11 siege was on-going, it is not surprising that even after 12 years, Rahul Gandhi pretends as nothing had happened in Mumbai. It is more glaring, because the Congress, its sycophants in the media and for that matter most of India’s left-leaning media ecosystem, has been for nearly a decade, projecting Rahul Gandhi as a ‘youth icon’ who is worthy of becoming the PM of India.

PM Modi revives the call for ‘One Nation, One Election’, proposes single voter list for national, state and local body elections

On the occasion of Constitution Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed All India Presiding Officers Conference via video conference. In his speech, the Prime Minister revived his call for  ‘One Nation, One Election’, and also proposed that there should be a unified voter list for all levels of elections in the country.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the importance of the idea of ‘One Nation One Election‘ in his address saying that the elections take place in the country throughout the year which hinders the development works. Describing One Nation One Election as not just a matter of debate but a need for the country, PM Modi said that it is a must to have a deep study and deliberation on the idea of ‘One Nation, One Election’.

PM Modi also called for creating a single voter list for all the elections including Lok Sabha elections, State Assembly elections and Panchayat-level elections. He said that having different voter lists for different elections was a wastage of time and money.

The Prime Minister had earlier proposed unified central and state elections as part of the idea of One Nation One Election. He had called for a meeting with presidents of all parties to discuss One Nation One Election in June last year. The PM had also called for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in his independence day speech last year.

PM Modi remembered national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for their inspiration and resolve which made the day possible. On the anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack that happened on this in 2008 in Mumbai, the PM paid tribute to all the people who lost their lives in the terrorist attack.

Prime Minister Modi also payed tribute to our security personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the terrorist attack. ” I salute our police personnel who lost their lives in the attack. Today, India is combating terrorism with new strategy”, said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister pointed out how the boundaries between the the legislature, the executive and the judiciary were blurred during the period of emergency and how the system of checks and balances and separation of powers enshrined within the Constitution strengthened therefrom.

Prime Minister Modi praised the legislators from across states who contributed by donating parts of their salaries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister pouring praises over the robust electoral system in the country for the successful conduct of elections during the pandemic. “The world saw the strength of our electoral system during the pandemic. It is not easy to successfully conduct hold elections, declare results on time and form new government. The strength we get from our Constitution helps us undertake difficult tasks in such times”, he said.

Listing the benefits of Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada in Gujarat whose construction was completed under the BJP government, PM Modi said that Dam provides irrigation facility for 18 lakh hectare land in Gujarat and 2.5 lakh hectare land in Rajasthan. He said that around 9 thousand villages in Gujarat and many small towns in Gujarat and Rajasthan received water from the dam.

He said that the people responsible for keeping the project of the dam( the foundation stone of the dam was laid down by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in April, 1961) pending all these years and thus causing national loss show no signs of remorse.

The Prime Minister said that his government is making efforts to raise the confidence and self-respect of each citizen as was expected under the Constitution.

Stressing the importance of duties provided under the Constitution, PM Modi said that Mahatma Gandhi was very keen on duties and that he held the view that if we performed our duties, our rights would automatically be safeguarded.

Using the acronym KYC, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of knowing the Constitution. He said that just as KYC (Know Your Customer) was an important aspect of digital security, similarly, KYC (Know Your Constitution) strengthens our constitutional safeguards.

Prime Minister Modi asserted that the people of this country have given the Constitution to themselves and therefore it was important that the people of the country feel connected to it. For this purpose, he said, the language of the laws should be kept simple so that the ordinary citizen could also understand it. He said that this was problem in our system that the citizen for who the Constitution and the laws are made cannot understand the complex language of the Constitution and the laws.

He added that ambiguous words, long sentences and numerous clauses and sub-clauses create a complex web making it difficult to understand the law.

He said that the laws that have become redundant should be done away with and the procedure to eliminate such laws should be simplified. He called for creating a system in which just like amendments are made in old laws, the process of repealing could also be carried out smoothly.

Farmer protests: Haryana CM ML Khattar asks Punjab CM Amarinder Singh to stop inciting farmers

On November 26, 10 central trade unions have called for ‘Bharat Bandh’ against the recent Farm Laws. Punjab has become the frontrunner in the protest of these laws. Not only the ruling Congress party in Punjab is spreading misinformation about the laws, but the long-term ally of Bhartiya Janata Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, has left NDA over these laws.

Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh has been standing in support of the farmers stating these laws are against their benefits. Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has himself debunked his claims and had said on multiple occasions that these laws are in favour of the farmers, things are not cooling down in Punjab.

CM Capt Amrinder Singh attacked CM Khattar on Twitter

A large group of farmers and traders had tried to enter Delhi via Haryana, which was blocked by the Haryana government. Irked by the strict measures taken by CM ML Khattar to stop the protestors from entering Delhi, CM Singh has posted a series of tweets condemning CM Khattar’s actions. He said, “For nearly 2 months farmers have been protesting peacefully in Punjab without any problem. Why is Haryana govt provoking them by resorting to force? Don’t the farmers have the right to pass peacefully through a public highway?”

CM Singh further added it is sad that on Constitution Day, the Constitutional Right of the farmers to protest is being taken away from them. He further urged the BJP leadership at the centre to ask the states under BJP’s rule to stop using ‘strong-arm’ tactics against the farmers. “The hands that feed the nation deserve to be held, not pushed aside,” he added.

CM Khattar’s rebuttal to CM Singh’s claims

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar replied to Captain Amrinder on Twitter and said that he had said multiple times that if there will be an issue over Minimum Selling Price (MSP) because of these laws, he will leave politics. “I’ve said it earlier and I’m saying it again, I’ll leave politics if there’ll be any trouble on the MSP – therefore, please stop inciting innocent farmers,” he said.

CM Khattar further stated that he has been trying to talk to CM Amarinder Singh for the last three days, but he has decided to remain busy and not respond. He asked CM Singh why he was running away from a discussion over the issue. CM Khatter added that he should stop putting the lives of people in danger during the pandemic. “Time for your lies, deception and propaganda is over – let the people see your real face. Please stop putting the lives of people in danger during the Corona pandemic. I urge you to not play with the lives of the people, at least avoid cheap politics during the time of the pandemic,” he said.

The unions supporting Bandh

The ten unions that are supporting the protests are Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), Trade Union Co-ordination Centre (TUCC), Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU), Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) and United Trade Union Congress (UTUC).

The Farmers Laws

In September 2020, the Central Government announced three new agriculture sector reform laws named Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance, and Farm Service Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. The main aim of these reforms is to provide a better platform for the farmers to sell their produce. Simultaneously, several clauses protect farmers’ rights on how they want to sell the crop, timely payments, and more.

Opposition parties have repeatedly said that these laws are the government’s attempt to end MSP provision. PM Modi had come down heavily on the parties opposing the farm laws on September 18 and said those who had kept farmers tied to restrictions for decades are now lying about agricultural reforms.

Congress party’s Lucknow office locked by employees over non-payment of salaries, office-bearers blocked from entering the office

In a bizarre incident, employees and staffers working at the Congress headquarters in Lucknow have locked up the building after the grand-old party failed to pay their salaries.

According to the reports, the Congress office-bearers are not being allowed to enter by the employees, who are asking the party leaders to clear their pending dues. The employees working at Lucknow’s Congress office are going through turbulent times as their salaries are denied by the Congress party for the last several months.

On Thursday, protesting against the Congress party, the upset staffers and the employees locked up the gates of the Congress office.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders have rushed to the party office to convince the protestors to unlock the doors and let them in to discuss the issue. However, the protesting staff has not accepted the demands and have carried out their protests. A large number of police personnel have also been deployed on the spot.

Not just employees, some construction workers have also not been paid by the Congress party. Reportedly, some construction work is being carried out at the premises and the workers have not been paid for a very long time. The daily wage earning construction workers are reportedly finding extremely tough to survive without their dues.

These workers had also met a few Congress leaders over the issue of non-payment of the dues, who had promised them to clear the dues soon. However, it has not yet been cleared. Meanwhile, the electricity and water connection has also been disconnected by officials for the non-payment of dues.

Shahrukh and Salman emerged as the star donkeys in the annual donkey fair organised two days after Diwali near Mandakini river in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh after being sold at the highest prices. Shahrukh was sold for Rs 1 lakh while Salman was sold for Rs 90,000. There were several other donkeys in the fair with equally interesting names like Amjad, Johny Liver, Pappu Diggi and so on. Amjad was sold for Rs 60 thousand, Johny Liver for Rs 55 thousand, Pappu for Rs 48,000 and Amareesh, Asrani, Gabbar and Veeru were sold for Rs 40,000 each. Donkey fair is organised on the last days of the five-day Deepdaan fair organised after Diwali.

Pandemic hits donkey fair

The pandemic spoilt the show this year at the donkey fair as the number of both the sellers and the buyers who turned up at the fair was pretty low. According to reports, about 60 percent less merchants and donkeys were present at the fair as compared to previous years. Only 2000 donkeys were sold at the fair this year while this number would shoot up to 8000 during previous years.

Traders from across the country participate in the donkey fair including those from Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Many donkeys are, interestingly, named after actors. Every year, around 30 thousand to 40 thousand donkeys used to participate in the fair but this year only about 10 thousand donkeys were present.

Story behind the donkey fair

It is said that the donkey fair was started during Mughal era by Aurangzeb. There was shortage of horses in Aurangzeb’s army in Chitrakoot. Therefore, he organised the fair to induct donkeys in his army to meet the shortage of horses.

Mahakali idol destruction in Karnataka temple: ASI should get out of temple management if it can’t protect them

0

Last week, one Hoysala-era idol of Mahakali at the Doddagaddavalli Temple near Hassan district, Karnataka was found damaged. The temple, an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protected monument, was built in the 12th Century by Hoysala dynasty. But the news was quickly buried, there was no outrage over it, there was no heated debate on it.

It is not known why this beautiful idol was splintered into two and many theories are being put forth but no one knows what really happened. Some even think it is not necessary to know. It is not a temple that was constructed by some rich man to wash away his sins. It has a historicity and antiquity of 900+ years. Not only, it was the first temple built by Hoysalas, it is also the only Chatushkoota (4-towered and hence 4-shrine) temple. It is also believed that it resembles Kolhapur’s Mahalakshmi closely, the reason why it is also referred to as Abhinava Kolhapuri. According to the literature discovered here, it is believed that the temple was built by Architect Mallojha MaNiyoja, who had earned the title of Vishwakarma Subhashita.

Central Government has declared this as National Protected Monument since 1958, This temple is an example of methodical architecture where there are Nine crowns and 4 towered temple where Mahalakshmi temple’s crown is in Chalukya style and rest of them are in Kadamba Naagara style. There is no other temple of this kind and also with many special features anywhere else in Karnataka.

Another specialty – Goddess Kali is generally found either in calm gentle form or in fierce ferocious form. But Lord Vishnu is installed in this temple exactly opposite to Kali in order to calm Her down. Similarly to calm down Lord Shiva, Godess Lakshmi is installed opposite to him. It is thus not surprising that there is no other temple in the country that has these extra ordinary and unique features. This temple being guarded by a 7ft tall Nude Vampire (Betala) is another unique feature.

Yet another specialty of the carvings here. In modern time, technology has advanced and any sculpture can be carved out in any manner that we wish. With available best resources it had to be carved in olden days (12th Century) which still baffles modern sculptors. The lore is that Vishwakarma the famed Divine Architect used to bring some herbal concoction to this temple and apply it on the stones, due to which stone used to soften up for a few days. Famous Sculptors then used to sculpt the stone into the form they desire and thereafter the stones used to harden again. These hardened stones are seen even today after centuries without losings its form and shape. One can find a whetstone in this temple in which this herbal concoction is believed to have been ground.

These are the information gleaned from the guides and locals. In fact, they have far more information than what is mentioned here, which is besides the point. Issue is what Archeological Survey of India was doing when an Idol of this Unique and popular temple was being broken.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened in this temple. 40 years back, Idol of Lord Vishnu was stolen from the same temple and in its place stands Bhairava today. Many come here with utmost devotion and many come here to damage it too. Yet others come here to steal and make money out it. All these only indicates the importance and glory of this temple.

Given this situation, ASI should have been far more responsible. But what has been their role in the current times? The locals say that dogs, pigs and other stray animals enter the temple premises and move around freely. The security for this 900+ year old marvel is pathetic, the reason why we lost Lord Vishnu idol in the past. Apparently, no lessons were learnt by ASI despite this. It was Muslim invaders who destroyed our temples in the past, but today it is incompetent people of ASI who have facilitated the destruction now.

The reasons for this anger against ASI are well founded. When the initial reports of destruction of the Idol came in, I assumed it to be handiwork of “miscreants from a particular community”. Upon enquiry I realized it was not the case. How did it break in that case? Was it treasure-hunters? There were no signs of forced entry too is what got revealed. Was it idol thieves who fled when it was accidentally dropped? No! If none of them is the cause, what really happened?

The truth was known only to the priest. During the installation of an idol to its base (Peetha), they apply Ashtabandha, a special glue used by Temple architects. According to experts of temple architecture and construction, this Asthabandha is not a permanent glue. Its bonding power lasts for 12 years and it needs to be reinstalled thereafter. Ever since it was taken over by ASI as most of the temples under their charge are, it is in a worrisome state. It needs the permission of these overrated incompetent officers to even move a stone within the complex. They don’t care about these important matters. Even if we offer to do it, we have to run around the courts to get permission. Or we may have to face the consequences for altering so-called National Monument.

This is how even Bhadrakali’s idol also got broken. For a few years now, the temple priest has been raising alarm repeatedly and complained to the department that Ashtabandha of the idol had weakened and it was wobbling. The apathy of the officers as if it was none of their business and Bhadrakali is not owned by them has now reduced in the devotee community to grief. Idols are not supported by the walls. It is held in position by the gib. The idol got toppled as it began leaning to the front due to the weight. The question is if it fell on its own? Or stray dogs, foxes or pigs leant on it is still unanswered. It has shocked the priest beyond belief is to find the broken idol when he reached the temple early in the morning for his daily duties.

We have to keep repeating this. If they are incapable, let ASI get lost from the temple management. They can always come and dig some place, pick up some pieces of pottery or tree bark etc and continue their research for years. Let them leave temple management to responsible Hindus. We will bring the glory back with the contributions of devotees. If not out of devotion to the temple, let them at least address the problems as a National Monument immediately.

If nothing is possible what is the point of their research. Is it only to dig and pick up some artefacts? Why do we pay our taxes for these pointless activities? Remember, this is not just about this temple. Many temples of Karnataka face similar fate. It is a temple only for namesake, the rituals performed without any commitment, if something happens at all. Many Deities in the Hampi’s Bishtappayya Gopuram do not even get their regular Pooja. Rituals that have been practiced for centuries have ceased because of ASI. They defend their inaction hiding behind the procedure for applying and approval from the Government. If anything as harmless as a ritual is done by devotee, they promptly file a case against them. Sadly, it is applicable only to humans. Pigs and Dogs have free run and defecate inside but they claim it is not their responsibility.

The temples that withstood Muslim invaders’ onslaught, got broken on Tippu Jayanti. Hindus haven’t raised their voices. They will not do it ever. It is a shame on us.
