8 questions that netizens are raising after Rhea Chakraborty’s dramatic interview on AajTak

Days after the Central Bureau of Investigation assumed the investigation into the alleged suicide case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the prime accused in the case, Rhea Chakraborty, who happened to be his girlfriend, came out on national television to offer her side of the story. The interview was broadcast on Hindi news channel Aaj Tak and was conducted by Rajdeep Sardesai, ironically, the same journalist had earlier pointed fingers on Sushant’s family for holding a ‘media trial’ of Rhea Chakraborty.

Rajdeep’s discrepancies notwithstanding, the interview stirred a furore across the country, for the assertions made by Rhea with regards to the late actor. Several netizens took to social media websites to raise their scepticism over the claims made by Ms Chakraborty, which, according to them, did not jibe with reality.

Here are some of the inconsistencies pointed out by the social media users:

Rhea claims she had a house worth Rs 72 lakh in Mumbai’s Khar

In her interview, Rhea stated that she had bought a property worth Rs 72 lakh in Mumbai’s upmarket neighbourhood Khar before she met Sushant Singh Rajput. She added that she had drawn a loan of Rs 50 lakhs from HDFC bank for purchasing the property and had to pay monthly instalments of about Rs 17,000 towards that loan.

However, several Twitteratis raised aspersions on this claim made by Rhea. Some of them questioned as to how could one get a property for just Rs 72 lakhs in a plush neighbourhood of Khar where property rates are in crores. Others were perplexed as to how could a loan of Rs 50 lakhs only yield an EMI of just Rs 17,000.

Twitter users posted screenshot of EMI calculator of HDFC, which shows that if the payment term is kept maximum and interest rate is kept minimum, the EMI for a loan of Rs 50,00,000 will be Rs. 33,097.

Social media users also used the HDFC website to conclude that for an EMI of Rs 17,000 on a loan of Rs 50 lakh, the interest rate has to be 1.4%, which is way lower than the lowest interest rate in the country.

Sushant uploaded a Disneyland video while Rhea claims he did not step out of his room in Paris

Another claim that is widely being contested on social media is Rhea’s assertion that Sushant Singh Rajput did not step out of his room for 3 days while they were vacationing in Paris last year. Soon after Rhea’s statement, a Disneyland video from Paris that was shared by Sushant Singh Rajput has gone viral on the Internet.

Many social media users have been highlighting the tweet posted by Sushant Singh Rajput, where he is seen enjoying at Disneyland in Paris, questioning the validity of the claim made by Rhea. The tweet is from October 2019, the same time when Sushant Singh Rajput was on a vacation trip to Europe with Rhea Chakraborty.

Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer is not representing the actress for free

Another inconsistency that has come to fore after the actor’s interview with Rajdeep Sardesai is regarding the appointment of lawyer Satish Maneshinde and his fees. Rhea’s claim in the interview that her lawyer did not raise bills, triggered speculations that the lawyer did not charge any sum for rendering his services for the actress.

Amidst conflicting reports, lawyer Maneshinde on Friday clarified that he has not revoked his fees for the actor as he represents her in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. He also rubbished the reports that claimed that it was him who had approached Rhea to represent her in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Rhea’s claim that Sushant came in her dreams to goad her to open up on the matter raises doubts among social media users

Regarding the question over what made her to finally speak up on the raging controversy surrounding the alleged suicide case of Sushant Singh Rajput, Rhea said that it was Sushant Singh Rajput who came in her dreams and goaded her into speaking the “truth”.

However, this explanation rendered by Rhea has not sat well with the social media users, who have alleged the actress of cooking up stories. One of the Twitter users went so far as to assert that Rakhi Sawant, who had earlier claimed that the late actor had come in her dreams and told her that he is going to take rebirth, is more believable than Rhea.

Rhea said strange photos in a hotel room scared Sushant Singh Rajput whose dream was to spend a night alone at a graveyard

Rhea Chakraborty in her interview with Rajdeep Sardesai claimed that Sushant Singh Rajput was scared of strange photos in a room in a Gothic Hotel in Italy. But, many social media users questioned how an actor whose one of the dreams was to spend a night alone at a graveyard, could be afraid of a few strange murals in a hotel.

Video of Sushant Singh Rajput training on flight simulator surfaces even as Rhea claims him of being claustrophobic

In her interview, Rhea Chakraborty claimed that Sushant had claustrophobia of air travel and he was taking prescription medicine to treat it. However, soon after the clip of Rhea alleging Sushant of suffering from claustrophobia was shared online, a video was shared by Sushant’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande where the late actor could be seen training on a flight simulator.

There are multiple loopholes in this claim made by Rhea about Sushant. It is known that Sushant was an aviation enthusiast and he was training to become a pilot. Besides dreaming of space travel, learning to fly an aeroplane was amongst the top in his list of dreams.

Sushant Singh Rajput was learning to fly the Boeing 737, and he was so serious about flying that he had purchased a Boeing 737 simulator for his training. He himself had posted a video of taking off an aircraft during his training in the simulator. It is highly unlikely that a person having claustrophobia of flying will train to become a pilot, and make large investments into it.

Rhea claimed Sushant’s mother died of depression but she had passed away because of brain haemorrhage

Another inconsistency highlighted by social media users in the interview was about the claims regarding the death of Sushant Singh Rajput’s mother. Rhea, in the interview, claimed that Sushant’s mother had died of depression.

However, social media users were quick to point out the lie peddled by the actress as Sushant’s mother had died of brain haemorrhage and not by depression as asserted by Rhea.

Rhea’s revelation on Sushant Singh Rajput’s former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande

Following the claims made by Rhea Chakraborty in her interview, Ankita Lokhande, the former girlfriend of Sushant Singh Rajput, took to Twitter, to issue certain clarifications on the matter. While Rhea had alleged that Rajput had been suffering from clinical depression, Ankita claimed that Sushant had no such illness till the time they were both together.

Rhea also went on to claim that Sushant Singh Rajput had been paying the EMIs for the flat inhabited by Ankita Lokhande. However, Lokhande had earlier shared the flat’s documents and bank statement to prove that she had been paying the EMIs of her flat.

Ankita also denied the allegations levelled by Rhea that the former couple had spoken on phone. Ankita claimed that Sushant had only commented on her friend’s Instagram post about the pictures from the shooting of Manikarnika movie, which she acknowledged with a courteous response.

Kanpur: Lucky Khan pretends to be Hindu to befriend minor Hindu girl, uses objectionable pictures to blackmail her

In yet another case of Love Jihad, a Muslim boy named Lucky Khan reportedly posed as a Hindu to befriend a minor Hindu girl in Bajaria area of Kanpur. Filing the complaint at the Bajaria police station, the relatives of the victim said that Lucky Khan entrapped the minor girl into a love affair by posing as a Hindu. He then allegedly drugged her and took compromising photographs with her which he used to blackmail her. He threatened the girl of making these objectionable pictures go viral on social media if she did not agree to convert to Islam and marry him. Following the complaint, Bajaria police arrested Lucky Khan on Thursday.

Victim’s mother said Kanpur police at first refused to take complaint

Speaking to News18, the victim’s mother said that she had, at first, approached the local police station in Kanpur’s Sisamau area, but the officer in charge had refused to take the complaint. After this, she reached the CO office, from where she was sent to Bajaria police station after signing an application.

Lucky Khan visited the temple to show that he was a Hindu

Lucky Khan worked in a shop, which was about 300 meters away from the victim’s flower shop, which she and her mother took care of, after the death of her father. Reportedly, the day Lucky saw the minor for the first time, he devised the plan to entrap her.

The victim’s flower shop is very close to a temple. Lucky planned to take advantage of this in order to trap the victim. He started visiting the temple at least 5 to 6 times a day. The minor, who was also very regularly at the temple, happened to meet Lucky Khan there. After this, the boy introduced himself as Lucky and proposed friendship to the girl. The two started meeting regularly and soon the girl fell in love with him. Taking advantage of the situation, Lucky, thereafter, drugged the minor and clicked her objectionable pictures, using which he started blackmailing her to convert to Islam and marry him.

Scared of the consequences, the mother-daughter duo, initially did not speak up. However, now they approached the police demanding strict action against the perpetrator.

Ever since the Shalini Yadav’s Love Jihad case has gained traction, Kanpur has been thrown into the spotlight for its increasing number of Love Jihad cases. In this case too, many Hindu organisations have come together, urging expedite police action in the case. Kanpur IG Mohit Agarwal informed that special teams have been constituted which are now looking into the various Love Jihad cases surfacing in the district.

Sudarshan News chief editor says they have not received Delhi HC order staying ‘UPSC Jihad’ program, will be aired as per schedule

0

Despite the Delhi HC putting a stay on the broadcast, Sudarshan News chief editor Suresh Chavhanke has taken to Twitter to inform that the channel will be sticking to the schedule and the said program on UPSC Jihad will be aired at 8 pm today.

He said that though people have been posting on social media that the Delhi HC has stayed the program on Sudarshan News that was scheduled to be aired at 8 PM today, the channel has not officially received any such order from the HC, therefore the show will be broadcasted tonight at 8 pm as per scheduled.

He added that if they receive the order by 8 PM, they will read the order and tell their side of the story.

The order passed by the Delhi HC was ex-parte order, which means no representatives of Sudarshan News were present in the hearing. Therefore, it is not known whether the channel has been sent the order officially or not, as the copy of the HC judgment posted by media houses does not mention this.

It may be noted that the order asks the petitioners to send copies of the notice to the channel. It also mentioned that the order will be sent to advocates of the parties on their e-mail addresses. But no advocate from the channel is listed in the order, hence it is unclear if the order has been sent by the High Court to Sudarshan News or their lawyers.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had stayed a program on Sudarshan News that was scheduled to be aired at 8 PM today, on a petition filed by Jamia Millia Islamia students. It has been alleged that the program may incite hatred against Muslims, as it alleges conspiracy to induct more Muslims in the civil and police services through UPSC examinations.

The stay order stopping the broadcast of the show was passed by Justice Navin Chavla after an urgent hearing. The petition was filed by advocate Shadan Farasat on behalf of current and former students of Jamia.

The controversy erupted yesterday after Sudarshan News chief editor Suresh Chavhanke shared a snippet of its upcoming program scheduled to be aired tonight at 8 PM. After the controversial video was posted, it attacked criticism from various sides, notably from left-liberals and Islamists. It was alleged that Suresh Chavhanke is spreading hate against Muslims, and leftist portals started publishing articles criticising him and his channel. Soon, Muslim activists started filing cases against the editor and the channel at various places across the country.

As Congress tries to link producer Sandeep Ssingh with BJP, here are his pictures with leaders of SP and Shiv Sena

In an attempt to link the BJP with the alleged suicide case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Congress leader Sachin Sawant shared a picture of Sandeep Ssingh, one of the first ones to reach Sushant’s residence after hearing the news of his death, with former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.

Sharing the pictures of Sandeep Ssingh and Devendra Fadnavis from the poster launch of biopic ‘PM Narendra Modi’, Sawant demanded Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Anil Deshmukh to look into BJP’s hand in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

The tweet was in response to BJP leader Ram Kadam’s request to the Uddhav Thackeray government for a thorough investigation in the drug nexus prevailing in the Bollywood. Kadam said in his letter that the role of the drug mafia angle is coming to fore and no actor or politicians who are youth icons for people should indulge in promoting drugs.

Ssingh is the producer of the movie ‘PM Narendra Modi’ and is going to be questioned by the CBI in the drug nexus angle related to the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.

Congress leader Sachin Sawant had alleged that the fact that former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis chose to give his valuable time for the launch of a poster of a movie produced by Sandeep Ssingh indicates that there is a connection between the embattled producer and the BJP. As per the Congress leader, Ssingh producing the movie ‘PM Narendra Modi’, a biopic on PM Modi and having the then Maharashtra CM and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to launch its poster is grounds sufficient to establish that the BJP had links with Sushant Singh Rajput’s unfortunate demise.

Shiv Sena leaders and SP leaders also had their pictures clicked with Sandeep Ssingh

However, while Congress falls over itself to tether BJP with Sushant Singh Rajput’s death probe, it is pertinent to note that Sandeep Ssingh has not just been photographed with Devendra Fadnavis alone. Several prominent personalities, from different political parties, have been clicked with the producer. Ssingh was seen with Smita Thackeray, the former wife of Jaidev Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray’s elder brother. Smita was supposed to produce a movie on Balasaheb Thackeray along with Sandeep Ssingh.

Similarly, Ssingh has also been seen with the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who periodically allies with the Congress party to take on the might of the BJP.

Sandeep Ssingh with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav

Congress’s vile attempt to link BJP with Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide

While the Congress demonstrate an unhealthy zeal to tie Sandeep Ssingh with the BJP to malign the saffron party in the ongoing death probe of Sushant Singh Rajput, it is worth noting that Ssingh was a movie producer and may have met legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum as a part of his professional responsibilities. Film producers often meet with politicians for seeking their participation in events and launches or for other sundry purposes.

In its rush to run a smear campaign against the BJP, the Congress party failed in its due-diligence to ascertain if the accused Ssingh had similar photographs clicked with opposition political party leaders that would effectively undermine their allegations. As the Congress party faces an existential crisis, with many of the senior Congress leaders unhappy over the current functioning of the party, there is a general air of despondency among the members.

In its bid to reinvigorate the deflated Congress supporters and members, the party leaders seem to have presided over the dishonest attempt to associate BJP with the late actor’s alleged suicide. However, Congress’ attempt to extrapolate participation in a poster launch event to having a political party linked with an actor’s alleged suicide is not only morally wicked but also a vile attempt to trivialise the probe into the death of the late actor.

India Today finds another ‘headmaster’s son’ in Rhea Chakraborty, now posts her school picture, teachers’ statements

Ever since the contentious interview of actress Rhea Chakraborty with India Today has been aired, the media house has been relentless in its pursuit of legitimising her claims and whitewashing her alleged role in the death of the 34-year-old actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

On Friday, India Today published an ‘exclusive’ news article titled, “Exclusive: Rhea Chakraborty’s school photo from Agra, teachers say she was a bright student.” While the academic prowess of the actress had nothing to do with Sushant’s case, the media publication nevertheless went ahead with the story to make an emotional appeal in defence of the accused.

Rhea was a outgoing student whom the teachers loved, claims report

Quoting one of her teachers from St Clare’s Senior Secondary School in Agra, the report stated, “She (Rhea) was full of confidence even at that young age and her intelligence was evident from the way she interacted during class, trying to answer every question posed by the teachers.” Besides, her schoolmates had reportedly claimed that Rhea was an extrovert who had a keen interest in extra-curricular activities. The report further added that she was ‘bright in studies’ and a favourite of her teachers and seniors in school.

Netizens react to the India Today story

Reacting strongly to the bizarre news coverage, a Twitter user advised the news publication to refrain from being a ‘sell-out.’ He tweeted, “Itna bhi mat biko yaar (Don’t sell yourself to this extent).”

Another user mocked that Rhea Chakraborty should be given a gallantry award for being a bright student.

Slamming Rajdeep Sardesai for calling Sushant Singh Rajput as a ‘small-time actor‘, another Twitter user RJ tweeted, “SSR was not a big star to bring all the focus on his death but Rhea is an international star for India Today.”

A popular Twitter user, Ankur Singh, highlighted the irony behind the contradictory narrative pushed by the news channel. He wrote, “Rhea is innocent because she was a bright student. But, AIEEE rank 7th Sushant is drunkard, drug addict, bipolar, depressed, and claustrophobic.”

Some users condemned the ‘white washing’ attempts by India Today.

India Today draws flak for ‘scripted’ interview with Rhea Chakraborty

Following the interview of Rhea Chakraborty with ‘journalist’ Rajdeep Sardesai, India Today drew criticism from several quarters for trying to legitimise several dubious claims made by the actress in her defence. The first is the claim that Sushant had claustrophobia of flying. It is, however, known that Sushant was enthusiastic about aviation, he was training to become a pilot, had enjoyed paragliding and had also taken flying simulator training.

Besides, Rajdeep Sardesai seemed to operate on the premise that Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged “mental health issues” are an established fact. However, in reality, the actor’s family has been vehemently denying it and no evidence of expert opinion and medical history has been revealed so far.

The Headmaster’s son syndrome

In a bid to absolve radical Islamists of their complicity in acts of terror, the left-liberal jamaat often resorts to sob stories. This is done as a part of a vile agenda that seeks to legitimise the ‘Kashmir struggle’ and peddle the Pakistani narrative that Indian security forces harass innocent citizens in Kashmir.

Perhaps, the most brazen attempt to whitewash the crimes committed by a terrorist was done by none other than ‘illustrious journalist’ Barkha Dutt. Soon after Burhan Wani, then Hizbul Commander in Kashmir was neutralised by the Armed Forces in an encounter in 2016, Dutt lost no time in putting out a tweet describing Wani as a “headmaster’s son” instead of calling him simply what he was, a wretched terrorist.

Similarly, terrorist Riaz Naikoo was called a ‘maths teacher’, and Zakir Musa was branded as a ‘fashionable boy’ by Indian leftist media houses.

Delhi High Court stays telecast of Sudarshan News program alleging conspiracy of Muslim infiltration in govt services

The Delhi High Court has stayed a program on Sudarshan News that was scheduled to be aired at 8 PM today, on a petition filed by Jamia Millia Islamia students.

The petitioners said that they have seen the trailer of the show posted on social media on 25th August, where editor of the channel Suresh Chavhank allegedly engaged in hate speech and defamation against students of Jamia Milia Islamia and the Muslim community. The show claims that the success of Jamia students in the UPSC exmas is a “conspiracy to infiltrate the civil service by Muslims”, the petition stated.

The petitioners added that Suresh Chavhank has “openly incited his target non-Muslim audience by fear-mongering that “jihadis” or terrorists from Jamia Milia Islamia would soon hold positions of authority and power like that of Collector and Secretary”. They contended that the program violates the programme code determined under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act along with the Cable Television Networks Rules 1994.
Sudarshan News chief editor Suresh Chavhanke had posted a video of the program to be aired on 28th August, where he had informed that the channel is analysing what they claim is the sudden increase in the number of Muslims selected in various posts in administrative and police services in the country, along with an increase in marks obtained by Muslim candidates in compared with others.

He had announced that it will be the channel’s big campaign against the ‘bureaucracy jihad’ and ‘UPSC Jihad’. ‘imagine jihadis from Jamia becoming your district commissioner and secretaries in every ministry’ he warned in the dramatic video.

After the controversial video was posted, it attacked criticism from various sides, notably from left-liberals and Islamists. It was alleged that Suresh Chavhanke is spreading hate against Muslims, and several petitions were filed against the channel. PS Association and Indian Police Foundation also condemned the program. .

Following the criticism, Suresh Chavhanke responded by saying that the program is about “Sudden spike in no of people of certain category selected in UPSC Civils in the last few years”. He had also claimed that terror leader Zakir Naik is also involved in the alleged conspiracy.

The case will be heard next on September 7.

Jamia riot was a well-planned conspiracy, police action was proportionate to the violence: ASG Aman Lekhi tells Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court heard petitions on the Jamia violence that took place in the University campus on 15th December last year. Additional Solicitor General Aman Lekhi made submissions on behalf of the Delhi police in front of a division bench comprising Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan.

During the hearing conducted through video conferencing, senior advocate Aman Lekhi strongly defended the action of Delhi police, saying that the action taken by police was necessary and proportionate to the violence unleashed the mob during the anti-CAA protests.

Narrating the events that led to the police entering the campus of the university to flush out rioters hiding inside, he said that more than two thousand people had gathered near the gate number 1 of the university, when the area was cordoned off. He said that although the protest started peacefully, gradually it started turning violent.

The ASG told the court that leaders and politicians were provoking the protesters by making objectionable and insightful slogans. He said that such speeches can’t get the protection of freedom of speech. The mob was armed with lathis, petrol bombs etc, and the police had to take action as it had turned violent. Moreover, the  congregation of protesters at the site was declared unlawful by the administration because they indulged in arson and violent, and became unmanageable. The ASG said that police took action against mob because they had started rioting, not because they were protesting against the CAA.

Advocate Lekhi said that by the actions, the protesters can’t be called students, they were a mob. He said that the mob had entered residential houses, blocked roads, burnt vehicles. Police have visuals of the mob taking out petrol from motorcycles for use in arson, and buses, cars and other vehicles were set ablaze by them. Passengers sitting in the buses had narrowly escaped being trapped in fire, he said.

The ASG said that it was not spontaneous violence, but a well-planned, as the mob entered the university campus and started heavy stone-pelting from inside on the police force. He said that a senior police officer like the Joint Commissioner of Police was present at the site and he had appealed the mob to stop violence, but they didn’t listen. Such was the gravity of the situation that even senior police officers were attacked.

Therefore, the police had to use moderate force in the form of tear gas shelling and lathi-charge to control the mob. Lekhi said that the stone-pelting went on for one and a half hours from the university campus. ‘University is a place of learning and not for violence. How there were weapons inside the campus’, the senior advocate questioned.

During the hearing, Justice Prateek Jalan intervened and asked if the force used by police was proportionate to the violence done by the mob. The court also asked whether it was as per the ethical standards of policing. To this, Aman Lekhi said that police took proportional action as he has already explained how grave the situation was. He said that it was a gathering of the criminal mob with the intent to commit crime, and the police action was appropriate for the situation. Policing is prevention and detection of crime, and that was what the police was doing, he added.

Aman Lekhi pointed out that even the NHRC report agrees with the charges made in the police chargesheet, and petitioners themselves have use the same report. He said that it was attempt to murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and police had to take action accordingly.

The ASG quoted various sections of the IPC and other relevant laws to explain the charges made against the rioters. He said, I have not imagined these offences or conducted an academic exercise, these events had actually happened on that day. Police took action as a last resort as the mob didn’t listen to the call to end violence, he said.

Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing from the petitioners, said that he wants insection of CCTV footage given by Delhi Police, and copies all charge sheets mentioned in the hearing. To this Lekhi said that he didn’t quote from any charge sheet, and only referred to charge sheets to mention the charges. He said that no copy can be given to third parties.

After that, the court adjourned the hearing, the next date for the hearing will take place on 18th September.

Several petitions have filed at the Delhi High Court accusing police brutality at the Jamia Milia Islamia University on 15th December during anti-ACC protests. Police had entered the campus after several rioters had taken shelter there after attacking police, a charge the university students deny. The portioners are seeking an independent inquiry into the matter. The first hearing took place on 4th August.

Bollywood is now all set to make a movie based on Sushant Singh Rajput’s life

The untimely death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the controversies that followed his death has now become a plot for a Bollywood movie.

According to movie critic Komal Nahta, a movie titled “Shashank” is on the cards, which revolves around the late actor Sushant and issue of nepotism and favouritism in the movie industry, especially Bollywood.

The movie “Shashank” will reportedly portray the story of a struggling actor who comes from a small town. The movie is produced by Marut Singh and directed by Sanoj Mishra.

The film also features Aarya Babbar who portrays the role of a producer. The film also stars another actor named Rajveer Singh. The shooting will be in done Patna, Lucknow and Mumbai.

Speaking to the media, the director Mishra said, “We do not want to name a famous producer, but in Bollywood popular producers and studios are running the mafia network and nepotism. They do not allow outsider actors and directors to come forward and make a career in Bollywood. The film ‘Shashank’ will feature this dark side of the Bollywood”.

Pakistani accounts trying to create trouble with NEET and JEE exams by tweeting COVID positive medical report? Here is what happened

Amidst the controversy surrounding the firm resolve of the Central government to hold competitive exams such as JEE and NEET, netizens woke up to a shocker on Saturday morning. A Twitter account (@HIGHOnN20) had shared a tweet narrating about the ordeal of writing the JEE exam at a time when his father had supposedly been infected with the Wuhan Coronavirus.

The tweet read, “Today my father has been tested positive for Corona, my jee exam is on 03/09/2020 and I have no idea how I am going to give exam in such condition. Maybe I have to stay in quarantine. I beg all Minister please please postpone exam.”

The user had uploaded the test results that supposedly belonged to his father. The tweet, which now stands deleted, had 2403 likes and 3,118 replies and retweets.

Netizens question Pakistani link with JEE-NEET controversy

However, a closer look at the test report by the ‘Punjab Forensic Science Agency’ shows that the address of the patient reads, ‘Lahore’. Besides, the date of the test result is clearly mentioned as April 17, 2020. As such, the claim that the Twitter user’s father recently fell ill can be ruled out.

If one is to assume that the information provided by the Twitter user is correct, it raises an important question – How can a student from Pakistan write the JEE exam? Or is a ploy of Pakistani security forces to take advantage of a raging controversy to destabilise the country?

Dubious credentials of the Twitter account

The said Twitter account (@HIGHOnN20) had 6 followers and was created in April 2020. After the tweet went viral, social media was rife with speculations of Pakistani interference in India’s internal affairs.

Coronavirus test report belongs to extradited Pakistani national

A simple Google reverse image search revealed the source of the said Coronavirus test report. On April 17, journalist, Aditya Raj Kaul, had tweeted images of test reports of two Pakistani citizens who were extradited from India via Attari border on a formal request from Pakistani authorities. The two Pakistani nationals were among 41 people who were extradited from India to Pakistan.

The Twitter user (@HIGHOnN20) had used the Coronavirus test report belonging to extradited Pakistani nationals and tried to pass it off as his father. The sentiment against conducting JEE and NEET exams had gained traction so much so that people shared the tweet without verifying the facts of the case. While a Pakistan-based testing agency indeed prepared the test report for a Pakistani national, it is unclear whether the said Twitter user is a Pakistani.

Congress IT cell resorts to fear mongering

Having said that, several fake accounts have come to light in recent times, following the controversy surrounding the JEE and NEET exams. Earlier, fake videos and pictures of students allegedly traumatised and distressed by the government’s decision to continue with the examinations are being shared by the members of the Congress IT cell.

A Twitter user who went by the handle @AnanyaS06358832, with the date of joining Twitter in August 2020, shared an image of a slit wrist to allude that she is committing suicide against the government’s decision to persist with the examinations as per schedule. However, on reverse searching the image, one finds that the picture has been on the Internet since aeons and it has been shared multiple times on Twitter itself. When several Twitter users pointed out that the image has been lifted from Google, the Twitter user promptly deleted the tweet.

Bloomsbury now accused of leaking manuscript of the book that they refused to publish after giving into ‘liberal’ threats: Read details

Only a week ago, Bloomsbury India decided to withdraw the publication of the book ‘Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story’ by authors of Monika Arora, Sonali Chitalkar and Prerna Malhotra. In a statement, the publication house cited a ‘virtual pre-publication launch organised without our knowledge by the authors’ as one of the reasons for its decision. Bloomsbury India said that they had planned to release the book, a factual account based on investigation and interviews conducted by the authors, in September 2020 but they have rescinded their decision.

Essentially, the publication house gave in to ‘liberal’ bullying and decided to withdraw the book which was about to go in to publication and was due to be released in September 2020.

Now, the publication is being accused of something far serious.

A manuscript of the book that was dropped by Bloomsbury has been doing the rounds on WhatsApp. Several netizens raised questions as to how the entire manuscript was illegally released and was not being circulated freely.

A perusal of the manuscript did indicate that it was the copy that was with Bloomsbury that was being freely and illegally circulated on WhatsApp.

The second page of the manuscript clearly says that it is a copy that is being published by Bloomsbury.

Second page of the leaked copy of Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story manuscript

Interestingly, other than the authors, the publishing house and the editor, this manuscript in this form would not be available with anyone else. It is obvious that the authors would have no interest in leaking the manuscript thereby hurting the sales of the book which is now being published by Garuda Prakashan.

Thus, it does raise the question whether it is the publishing house that leaked the copy of the manuscript.

Interestingly, before the manuscript was circulated on WhatsApp, one of the first portals to access the manuscript was Left portal, TheQuint.com.

In its report that shoddily tried to ‘fact-check’ the book, The Quint clearly mentions that the manuscript of the book has been accessed by them.

Excerpt from TheQuint report

TheQuint, in fact, specifically mentions that they have accessed and scanned the “Bloomsbury draft” of the book.

The question thus arises that how was TheQuint managed to access a confidential book manuscript in the first place when access to the manuscript was limited to the authors and the publication house. Even more curiously, the draft of this book was accessed by TheQuint after the book had gone into publication with Garuda Prakashan and the authors had served a legal notice to the publication house.

The needle of suspicion, according to many, obviously points towards Bloomsbury, the publication house that bent over to liberal pressure and dropped the book in breach of the contract it had signed with the authors.

It is pertinent to note that the ‘Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story’ book has been pre-ordered over 15,000 times after Gaurda Prakashan opened the booking platform.
