Sushant Singh Rajput’s brother-in-law gives a befitting reply to toxic journalism of Shekhar Gupta’s portal

Sushant Singh Rajput’s brother-in-law Vishal Kirti on Sunday slammed Shekhar Gupta and his portal ThePrint for toxic journalism and insulting a grieving family by downplaying their grief as ‘toxic family structure’. In a blog, Vishal said that despite the tragedy in their lives they all had been trying to move on with their lives.

The article penned by ThePrint’s employee Jyoti Yadav had claimed that “the way Sushant’s family has reacted says a lot about the burden of being a son in a Bihari family”. The article claimed further, “What has escaped popular attention is the toxic family structure of cow-belt India, especially Bihar, and how it treats its precious sons”.

Vishal Kirti said that that article was “unintelligent” and “offensive” not only to the deceased Bollywood actor’s family but to all Indian families. In the blog, he once again emphasised that the death of Sushant Singh Rajput is not an opportunity to spread mental health awareness. Refuting her allegations that Sushant’s family knows very little about the issue of mental health, Kirti said that the environmental factors that contributed towards the deceased actor’s alleged depression ought to be investigated.

Vishal Kirti said, “Those hostile environmental conditions could include gaslighting, blackmailing, alienating, covert medication, overt overmedication, and so on. I am not saying that a very hostile environment is necessary for people to fall into depression but in this case, the presence of a hostile environment seems to ring true.” He also said that he will be the first to accept with dignity if it is established in a Court of Law that Sushant Singh Rajput suffered from depression without any foul play.

On Yadav’s allegations of ‘toxic Bihari families’, insinuating that families have a tendency to scapegoat the wives or girlfriends of their sons in order to avoid recognising their son’s autonomy, Vishal Kirti said, “This is where Jyoti’s stereotypical “toxic Bihari family” trope gets debunked. The FIR didn’t say that my father-in-law couldn’t stand Ankita. He actually adored Ankita and even stayed over in Mumbai with Ankita and Sushant. The FIR mentions one specific person called Rhea and giving it an anti-feminist flare is toxic journalism.”

He continued, “Moving on to the state of Bihar in general. There are millions of well-educated middle-class families in Bihar where there is no toxic attitude towards their son’s girlfriends and spouses. I am sure there are some families with these attitudes but taking the experiences of some and painting it with a broad brush is another toxic journalism masterstroke.”

The brother-in-law of the deceased actor once again emphasised that the FIR was against Rhea Chakraborty and not anti-women. In a previous blog as well, Vishal Kirti had slammed ‘therapist’ Susan Walker Moffat for divulging confidential details regarding the mental health condition of her client Sushant Singh Rajput. He had also suggested that this was illegal for her to do so and said that he was leaving it to his father-in-law to press charges on the matter.

Atmanirbhar Bharat gets a push as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announces import embargo on 101 weapon systems

In a significant announcement on Sunday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the Ministry of Defence was ready for a big push to the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative and would introduce an import embargo on 101 items to boost indigenisation of defence production.

The Defence Minister said that the decision to impose embargo 101 items will give a big boost to India’s self-reliant initiatives in the defence sector. He added that the new initiative presents an opportunity for the nation’s defence industry to manufacture the items in the embargoed list by using their own design or by adopting the technologies developed by the DRDO.

In a series of tweets, Singh said that the Ministry had taken inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “clarion call for a self-reliant India based on the five pillars, i.e., Economy, Infrastructure, System, Demography & Demand”. Rajnath Singh termed the move as a “big step towards self-reliance in defence”.

The Defence Minister said that the list is prepared by Ministry of Defence after several rounds of consultations with all stakeholders, including the Armed Forces, public and private industry to assess current and future capabilities of the Indian industry for manufacturing various ammunition and equipment within India.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that nearly 260 schemes of such items were contracted by the Tri-Services at an approximate cost of Rs 3.5 lakh crore between April 2015 and August 2020. The decision to put focus on the domestic manufacturing of defence equipments will induceRs 4 lakh crore worth of contracts, that will be manufactured by the domestic industry within the next 6 to 7 years, Singh added.

Out of these, procurement worth almost Rs 1,30,000 crore each are anticipated for the Indian Army and the Air Force and Rs 1,40,000 crore will be dedicated to the the Navy over the same period. “The list also includes, wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) with indicative import embargo date of December 2021, of which the Army is expected to contract almost 200 at an approximate cost of over Rs 5,000 crore,” Rajnath Singh tweeted.

Further, the Defence Minister said that the embargo on imports will be progressively be implemented between 2020 to 2024. Our aim is to appraise the Indian defence industry about the anticipated requirements of the Armed Forces so that they are better prepared to realise the goal of indigenisation, he added.

The Defence Minister also said that they will take all necessary steps to ensure that timelines for production of equipment as per the Negative Import List are met, and this will include a co-ordinated mechanism for handholding of the industry by the Defence Services. He added that the Department of Military Affairs will identify more such equipment for import embargo in the future in consultation with all stakeholders.

A due note of this will also be made in the DAP to ensure that no item in the negative list is processed for import in the future, added Defence Minister in his tweet.

Most importantly, the Ministry of Defence has now bifurcated the capital procurement budget for 2020-21 between domestic and foreign capital procurement routes. A separate budget head has been created with an outlay of nearly Rs 52,000 crore for domestic capital procurement in the current financial year.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

Atmanirbhar Bharat is the vision of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation. On May 12, Prime Minister Modi announced a special package with a message of self-reliance to the country.

The special financial package is worth 20 lakh crore of 266 billion dollars for reviving the economy that has been very much affected due to lockdown. The Prime Minister informed that the package is 10 per cent of India’s GDP.

Congress party may face suspension or disqualification if it fails to elect a party president soon: Read details

The indecisiveness of the Congress party to elect a permanent party president could now emerge as a threat to its own existence as the party could well now be facing suspension or disqualification if it fails to provide a satisfactory explanation to the Election Commission on why it has not been able to elect a permanent president following Rahul Gandhi’s resignation last year, reports Sunday Guardian.

In 2019, Sonia Gandhi was made the interim president by the Congress Working Committee after Rahul Gandhi quit the post after the general elections fiasco. On Monday she would complete one year in office. The party claims that that the process to elect new chief has been postponed due to coronavirus pandemic and assured of complying with the provisions of the EC as soon as normalcy was restored.

The Election Commission often stays away from interfering into the party’s internal issues. However, if it chooses, it can initiate action against any political party for failing to comply with the rules and regulations. The EC could also freeze the election symbol under the Symbol Order, which is an executive decision.

The political parties are governed by Section 29 (A), sub-clause (V) of the Representation of People’s Act, introduced in 1989 to bring them under its ambit. Each political party, including the Congress, has to re-register itself, and agree to show its allegiance to the Constitution of India and participate in the periodic elections.

Even though there are no rules for ensuring mandatory compliance, the Election Commission can time-and-again take a call on the matter, if and when, it deems appropriate. The EC may now examine if the INC Constitution has a specific provision regarding the election of a new president within a specified period after the incumbent vacates the post. The commission can order the party to hold the internal elections within this stipulated time frame.

Crisis deepens in Congress party as Sonia Gandhi’s health deteriorates

The worry for the grand-old-party is that the crisis within the party is likely to further deepen. The interim President Sonia Gandhi was recently admitted to the Ganga Ram hospital over some health complications. If she decides to go abroad for her annual medical check-up, the party may need to elect someone else in her place especially if Rahul Gandhi is reluctant to take charge. The president of the party can only be elected only by the All India Congress Committee.

Meanwhile, the party cadres, including senior leaders of the party are demanding that the AICC should be convened at the earliest to fill up the key organisational position. They have also been asking for the reinstatement of the Congress Parliamentary Board, with a duly elected Working Committee, to provide representation to leaders who have a mass connect.

Since multiple power centres have emerged, Congress party is currently highly vulnerable and susceptible to the machinations of the BJP, the Congress leaders believe since the current state of the organisation is both leaderless and directionless.

While the Madhya Pradesh government collapsed earlier this year, the Rajasthan government is facing an existential crisis as well. There are also reports which indicate that the Chhattisgarh government may go the Madhya Pradesh way. The coalition government in Jharkhand also seems to have a bleak future. The BJP has been closely following the unfolding drama within the Congress and is waiting on the sidelines to take advantage of the unfurling situation.

The indecisiveness of Rahul Gandhi

One of the outstanding issues with the Congress party is the indecisiveness of Rahul Gandhi. On one hand he has reportedly made it clear that he does not want to return as the party chief, on the other hand, he prefers to remain silent when his close associates raise demands for his reinstatement.

Moreover, Sonia Gandhi’s health situation does not permit her to be pro-active as the president. Hence, the party may have to relieve her from many responsibilities in the larger interest of the organisation at the earliest. However, one of the major concerns has been that her her prolonged tenure has centralised the decision-making process. Most of the decisions of the party are made by her without any process of consultation. Prior to this, the Congress leaders apparently took decisions in consultation with the Congress Parliamentary Board.

At one point, the CPB was an all-powerful body and each Rajya Sabha seat or that of the Legislative Council required its clearance. Contrastingly, the Congress party has done away with the CPB. Meanwhile the BJP has adopted the same with the Parliamentary Board of the party collectively arriving at important decisions with consultations.

Ever since Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the party, she has been the supreme leader. Apart from being the party president, she was also the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, the chairperson of the UPA and the head of the Election Committee and the Working Committee. She was also the convener of the National Advisory Council, during the UPA regime, which made her the de-facto Prime Minister.

Some believe that such a concentration of authority and power has led to the decline of the party. In addition, her proclivity of favouring Dalits-Muslims over others fragmented and weakened the party.

The senior leaders of the party are now in a view that, once Rahul Gandhi’s decision is known, the party should go ahead with the organisational elections and elect a non-Gandhi. In the interim, there could be either an arrangement of collective leadership or a leader with proven abilities and logistical skills such as Kamal Nath or Bhupinder Singh Hooda to be made the chief. The younger leaders can participate in the elections and therefore would discover their actual standing within the party. The leaders who win these election hurdles can be thus shortlisted as future leaders.

Uttar Pradesh: Ahead of Independence Day, journalists receive mysterious calls demanding creation of ‘Urdustan’, FIR lodged

Around 12:30 PM on Saturday, several media persons in Lucknow received an audio message from numbers originating from Malaysia, Canada and different parts of the United States of America. The message was about protests on Independence Day to raise voice against the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. It also demanded a separate nation for minorities.

The audio message was in a male’s voice who was urging people to protest against the Ram Mandir being constructed in Ayodhya. The person in the message said that it is the first step of the Modi government to build Hindu Rastra. He added the temple is being constructed by demolishing the disputed structure and thus PM Modi should not be allowed to unfurl National Flag on Independence Day. The message further supported the demand of Khalistan by Sikhs and demanded Urdustan, a separate nation for Indian Muslims.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra govt in Supreme Court in Sushant Singh Rajput case

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi will be representing the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government in the apex court in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Earlier, Rhea had hired Mumbai’s top lawyer Satish Maneshinde. Maneshinde had represented Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case.

The Supreme Court had ordered the Maharashtra government to file a report of all findings pertaining to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death probe. In its reply to the SC, the Maharashtra government attacked Rajput’s father and claimed that his allegations against Rhea are ‘criminal breach of trust’. Maharashtra govt claimed that the deceased actor’s father was not ‘within his rights’ for filing the police complaint in Patna, Bihar, where he lives. Maharashtra govt claimed that since his death took place in Mumbai, it is within Bandra Police limit.

Maharashtra govt further claims that none of Sushant’s family members raised any suspicion over his alleged suicide when Mumbai Police recorded their statement first and alleged that their later statements were ‘tainted with afterthoughts’.

Rhea releases images of Sushant’s ‘properties’ she possesses, late actor’s ex-aide says she fired his entire staff

Rhea Chakraborty, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, released images of the ‘possessions’ she has of Sushant after the Enforcement Directorate grilled her and her brother last week.

Rhea claimed these two are the only two ‘properties’ of Sushant she has with herself. She claims that “Bebu” in gratitude list is herself and ‘Lillu’ is her Showik, her brother, who was also grilled by the ED. She claims ‘Sir’ is Rhea’s father and ‘Ma’am’ is her mother. Fudge is Sushant’s dog.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s ex-assistant Sabir Ahmed while speaking to Pinkvilla said that Rhea Chakraborty fired his entire team last year. He said that Singh was a happy soul but Rhea’s entry changed it all as she took complete charge of his life.

He further says that Rhea didn’t want the old staff and hence fired them all. “She wanted to put all her people in our places. After that, I didn’t go back and never met Sushant sir,” he told Pinkvilla. He further said that even those who were not fired by Rhea had to talk to her instead of talking to Sushant.

Udta AAP: After crushing defeat in 2017, AAP dissolves core committee, district units and all wings in Punjab

The Punjab Unit of the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to disband its core structure, core committee, all wings and district units in an effort to strengthen the party at the organisational level ahead of the Assembly Elections in the state in 2022.

The Aam Aadmi Party announced that except the main wing of the party, all other committees and units have been dissolved. A further announcement on the organisational structure of the party’s Punjab Unit will be announced soon. Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann will continue to remain the president of the state unit.

AAP had campaigned for the 2017 Assembly Elections in Punjab with great expectations of forming the government, however, they had been dealt a crushing defeat by the Congress party under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh. It was later revealed that the AAP under Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal had attempted to court Khalistanis in order to secure an electoral victory in Punjab.

Shiromani Akali Dal leaders to protest outside Sonia Gandhi’s house alleging involvement of Congress leaders in production & peddling of spurious liquor in Punjab

The State of Punjab has been wrecked by the sale of illicit alcohol and the subsequent fatalities caused due to its consumption, culminating in the Hooch tragedy that led to the death of over 100 people so far. On Saturday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) informed that the party will protest outside the residence of the Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi in light of the recent tragedy caused due to consumption of spurious liquor in the State.

The party has alleged that the Congress party is involved in the production & peddling of spurious liquor that has killed more than 100 people in Punjab. They have also alleged that the liquor mafia in the state had paid money to the Congress to thwart any probe into the illegal liquor trade.

Party spokesperson Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema added that the protest will be led by Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal on August 11, demanding the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for failing to curb the sale of spurious liquor in the State. The party has also demanded appropriate action against the culprits. “Around 70% of Congress leaders in the State are involved in the illegal sale of alcohol in the State… Why is Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi silent over the issue?” Dr. Cheema asked.

A protest march was also carried out today by the Shiromani Akali Dal leaders against the Congress-led Punjab government in Chandigarh. The march was led by SAD leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, which was stopped by the Chandigarh Police some distance away from the Raj Bhawan. The protesters were also detained by police for some time.

The party demanded dismissal of the Congress government in the state over the tragedy. SAD also demanded action against those Congress leaders who are allegedly involved in the supply of spurious liquor.

“I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into suspected spurious liquor deaths in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. Commissioner, Jalandhar Division will conduct the inquiry and coordinate with concerned SSPs and other officers. Anyone found guilty will not be spared,” Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was earlier quoted as saying.

Probe begins in Hooch tragedy case

Reportedly, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had set up two investigative teams to launch a probe into the Hooch tragedy. On Thurday, Divisional Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhry also initiated a parallel magisterial probe in the case. He has also sought details about the mode of transportation of industrial spirit from distilleries to the suppliers. The Punjab police officials were directed to submit detailed reports about recoveries, investigations, statements of accused, victims, and witnesses. Besides, Raj Kamal Chaudhry also demanded details of excise officials who are deputed in the area for over 2 years. The probe report is expected within 3 weeks from the date of commencement of the investigation.

Punya Prasun Bajpai makes absurd comparison of Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan’s viewership on TV with BJP’s vote in 2019

More than 160 million people across the world witnessed the historic Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. The momentous occasion, once in a lifetime, was cheered not only by people of the country but was celebrated across the world with much exuberance.

However, there were certain individuals, who seemed to be unhappy, took to politicise and mock at the event only to target the ruling dispensation and the BJP.

In a similar act, Punya Prasun Bajpai on Saturday took to Twitter to discredit the success of the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony by making illogical claims. Punya Prasun Bajpai, quoting a news report, said that while BJP grabbed around 23 crores votes in the 2019 general elections only 16 crore people watched the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan ceremony on Wednesday.

The journalist, in his attempt to portray the cultural event of Ram Mandir ceremony as a political event, went on to make absurd comparison stating that even people who voted for the BJP in the last elections did not watch the Ram Mandir ceremony. Essentially Bajpai was insinuating that the BJP had lost support among the masses as nearly 7 crore people who voted for the BJP was not interested in witnessing it.

Bajpai’s poor understanding of statistics

The inability of journalists like PP Bajpai to comprehend statistics and viewership data is understandable. Perhaps, Bajpai thought only one person watched the event on one particular TV set.

Secondly, the viewership of 16 crores is of DD National as revealed by Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi S Vempati. The live feed of DD National was also telecast by more than 200 other TV channels. Then there is digital space and social media platforms, which is now a major medium to watch any live program. So the viewership of the event will be much higher than 16 crores.

Most importantly, not all people voted for BJP will have TV sets at their homes. Moreover, watching the Ram Mandir event was not made mandatory and hence corresponding the viewership of an event to the total numbers of votes polled in specific elections is laughable at the best.
