Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman stands by his comments threatening Hindus, claims he is fighting to save the country and Constitution

Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman Zafarul Islam has declared that he still stands by his incendiary comments after he was booked on charges of sedition by Delhi Police. He said that it was ‘erroneously’ reported by sections of the media that he had deleted his tweet containing the crude remarks and deleted it. Zafarul Islam said that he had apologised for the tweet only because the timing of the tweet was incorrect, given that there is a pandemic underway but he does not see anything wrong with the comments themselves. He said that he stands by his words and convictions.

Zafarul Islam added, “The tweet is very much there on my twitter handle and facebook page. Moreover, I have said in my 1 May 2020 statement that I stand by my views and convictions. I will continue, now and in future, the fight against hate politics in the country. FIRs, arrests and imprisonments do not change this path which I chosen consciously to save my country, my people, the Indian secular polity and the Constitution.”

The Hateful Comments by Zafarul Islam

On Tuesday, Islam shared a provocative post on Facebook to thank Kuwait for “standing with the Indian Muslims” and attacked Hindus by referring to them as “Hindutva bigots”, who according to him miscalculated the reaction of the Arab world about the “persecution of Muslims in India”. Shockingly, the Delhi Minority Commission chairman hailed notorious radical Islamist and terror sympathiser Zakir Naik in his post as he claimed people like Naik are respectful household names in the Arab region and Muslim world. “Mind you, bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynchings and riots. The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face avalanche,” he added.

The Apology by Zafarul Islam

On May 1, Islam tendered an apology, saying that his tweet was “ill-timed” and “insensitive” in light of the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak. While apologising, he claimed that the matter was blown “out of proportion. Zafarul Islam further accused the media of fabricating and distorting hi statements. He added that the would continue to defend India on crucial issues as doing otherwise would be against the Constitution and his religious beliefs.

Slammed by National Minorities Commission

In a video message, the National Commission of Minorities Chairman Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi stated, “National minorities Commission condemns the statements made by Zafarul Islam which are divisive in nature. Zafarul Islam should not have forgotten that people of all religions have been living in harmony for centuries and have faced all calamities together.”

Rizvi also stated that the Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman should remember that despite vehement opposition from an Islamic nation like Pakistan, many Arab nations have honoured our PM Modi with the highest civilian awards of their countries. Rizvi added that strict action should be taken against Zafarul Islam for his hateful comments.

Pakistani terrorist Haider, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, killed in Handwara encounter

A top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Haider, who hailed from Pakistan, was one of the two terrorists killed by the security forces in Handwara encounter that took place on Saturday, 2nd May 2020. As per journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, the identify of second terrorist is still being ascertained.

Handwara encounter

On 2nd May 2020, at around 3:30 PM, an encounter started between the Forces and terrorists in Chanjumullah area of Handwara in Kupwara, North Kashmir. Towards evening, reports started pouring in that two senior Army personnel including a Colonel-rank officer and a Major were trapped in a house with two Pakistani terrorists. The senior officers soon lost contact with the team. Soon, they lost contact with the unit.

As reported by journalist Snehesh Alex Philip, when no radio contact could be established with the team, the unit called Colonel Sharma’s mobile phone. The call was answered by a terrorist who responded with an ‘Assalamalaikum’.

As per reports, the terrorists were found hiding in a cowshed. The Forces were reportedly acting on a tipoff that terrorists were present in the Rajwar forests area. The special operations group of police surrounded the house the terrorists were hiding in and an encounter followed. As of now, the reports are that five security personnel have lost their lives while two terrorists were killed. All 5 members of the original team including Commanding Officer 21 RR Col Ashutosh Sharma, Maj Anuj Sood, Police Sub Inspector Shakeel Qazi, one Lc Naik and one rifleman have been martyred.

Soon after the news broke, various Pakistani Twitter users took to microblogging platform to express glee at the martyrdom of Indian soldiers and hailed the terrorists as ‘freedom fighters’.

The dictatorial history of the Congress party began right after Indian independence under Nehru, Arnab Goswami is only the latest victim

“And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed- if all records told the same tale- then the lie passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past” 1984, George Orwell

Public memory is short. The way the Left and the Congress came together in late Seventies in the aftermath of Emergency, splitting the political and the intellectual spaces between the two of them, made this possible. This allowed the lies to propagate and propaganda to continue, even after the Party lost power owing to massive corruption charges and a pronounced alienation from the people at large. Hitler hired one propagandist to carry on twisting the history. Congress hired the entire Leftist muscle of the mind to create a fake history with Nehru sitting on the top of it as a paragon of virtue, defender of democracy and a fake-God of Free-thought. The dictatorial streak of Nehru had started before independence when the Congress declared itself to be sole spokesperson of the Indian people, suppressing any other voice. The biggest cruelty of the Congress is not only the Authoritarianism it brought in to Indian democracy, rather the fact that it continued to whitewash it. This whitewashing allowed it to remain oblivious to its own wrong-doings and still pose as the great liberator of free thought in India, even with its baggage of Emergency by Indira, Press Act of Nehru, Postal Bill of Rajiv Gandhi and draconian Article 66A to control the internet under Sonia Gandhi.

The chain of dictatorial tendencies continued unabated in their small ways, wherever they came to power, on state-level, through cynically cobbled-coalitions. In MP and Maharashtra, College Principle and Professors were arrested for taking a political line which the Government did not like. There was no hesitation, never a second thought. Still riding on the Nehru’s image carefully crafted by the sycophantic brigade as a benevolent democrat, Congress continued to attack the current Narendra Modi government, without any concrete evidence to back their charges. Today when a well-known media personality, Arnab Goswami is hounded by the Police in a state ruled by the Congress under coalition, at a time when it is failing miserably in controlling COVID-19, when it is stuck in serious charges of incompetence on account of Palghar Lynching, on the charges of release of Curfew passes to supposedly untraceable Wadhawan brothers to go for a Picnic during the lockdown; it is pertinent for us to trace the steps back to where it all began.

It is always important to start from the beginning. As we all know, Nehru was selected the leader of Congress, positioned to be the President of Congress at the time when Independence of India was around the corner. This placed Nehru in the right place to be the first Prime Minister of India and the head of caretaker Government. Unfortunately, it seems that the fact Nehru was a selected leader, at least at the time of independence, not an elected one, in contrast to Sardar Patel who held the Party and the people with him, played on the mind of Nehru. It is also possible Nehru was being honest in an alleged self-portrait he is said to have written anonymously in the Modern Review before 1947, when he wrote about himself that, “he has all the makings of a dictator in him—a vast popularity, a strong will directed to a well-defined purpose, energy, pride, organizational capacity, ability, hardness, and, with all his love of the crowd, an intolerance of others and a certain contempt for the weak and the inefficient.”

The dictator Shri Jawaharlal Nehru mentions here was let loose, within three years of Independence and one year of India becoming a Republic with a democratic Constitution. The Constitution, labored over by leading luminaries from different ideologies over one year was created with the solemn ‘resolve to place before the world a model of Constitution which will ensure to everyone Freedom of action, Freedom of thought, Freedom of belief and Freedom of Worship.’ The Constitution came into effect on 26th of January, 1950. Soon after that, Pandit Nehru put on his heavy boot and started marching towards crushing the very fundamentals which he spoke of eloquently at the time the Constituent Assembly began writing the Constitution.

The first Congress Government already had around 28 Communists in prison when the Constitution came into effect, under Bombay Public Security Act. A petition was moved immediately and on 8th of February, 1950, the Bombay High Court released the 28 Communists. Nehru was shocked to be suddenly deprived of the cruel claws of the colonial British laws which became defunct under the Indian constitution. An inflamed Nehru immediately wrote that the Communists ‘constituted a danger to the existence and security of the state which cannot deal with them under the provisions of ordinary laws.’ Enthused by the release of their Comrades in Mumbai and sick of torture and eventual killing of two of the communists in Salem Prison on 11th of February, 1950, 200 Communists held in Salem Prison began protest and went on Hunger Strike. This resulted in a scuffle between the Prison Authorities and the Prisoners. What happened next is shocking. On 12th of February, 1950, 200 Communists were locked in a hall and the Police opened fire. 22 died and around 107 were grievously injured. Who thought a Jalianwalla Bagh will be brought in by the Congress Government in free India within days of implementing a democratic Constitution? Later this too would be wiped off from public memories much like the 2011 midnight attack of Delhi Police under Sonia Gandhi led Congress on protesting citizens in Ramlila Maidan.

Romesh Thapar, a Communist from well-heeled family running a Leftist magazine Crossroad took this up. He wrote- ‘One more proof that the Congress rulers are afraid of the truth. Their ways are the ways of Hitler and Mussolini.’ Crossroad was banned by the Nehru Government. Romesh Thapar approached the Bombay High Court. Around that time the Hindu Right began to question the Partition. Mahant Digvijaynath of Gorakhpur and then President of the Hindu Mahasabha demanded the annulment of Partition and reunification of India and Pakistan. The RSS mouthpiece attacked Nehru government on Nehru-Liaquat Pact and on its stance on Enemy Properties. Shri KR Malkani was the Editor of Organiser (Later first man to be arrested during Emergency brought in by Nehru’s daughter, Indira). Pre-censorship was imposed on The Organiser. On 13th March, 1950, Malkani wrote- ‘Surely the Government does not hope to extinguish a volcano by squatting more tightly on the crater.’ On 10th of April, 1950, Malkani and Brij Bhushan approached the Supreme Court. Organiser was represented by Shri NC Chatterjee, former President of Hindu Mahasabha and father of the Communist leader, Somnath Chatterjee. The left and the Right in this rare occasion came together to uphold the democratic spirit of India with Organiser and Crossroad, both landing in the Court seeking justice.

Shri PR Das, a former Judge, admonished the Congress under Nehru- ‘We have in India today a One-Party state just as Hitler’s Germany was a One-Party State and Stalin’s Russia is a One-Party State’. All this while the wheels of petty politics moved fast. In a rush to bring in an abolishment of Zamindari, the Bihar Government brought in a shoddily drafted Bihar Management of Estates and Tenures Act. Compared to the similar bill in UP under Shri GB Pant with extensive 340 plus clauses, Bihar Bill had fifty clauses, and was lopsided to favor small landlords. The smaller landlords (mostly Congress supporters) were to get twenty times their land earnings as one-time settlement, while the larger ones were to get only three times. Court was approached and Patna High Court declared the bill unconstitutional. The rush was under the pressure to make changes to meet the election deadlines set by Nehru. Initially, elections were proposed to be held on May, 1950. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Shri KC Neogy resigned in protest against Nehru-Liaqat Pact. While Nehru could have brushed their resignation as Right Wing unreasonableness, but at the same time, Nehru’s Finance Minister and an Independent John Mathai too resigned, protesting Nehru’s Authoritarianism. He was a non-political appointee and a brilliant Scholar. Nehru at that time was on Vacation at the Naval Ship, INS Delhi. He lamented, not at the loss of a brilliant mind, but rather at the disruption to his vacation.

Pressure from the Courts on obvious transgression on Intellectual liberties, failure to implement poll-promises, diminishing political clout, was further aggravated by Community Government Order in Tamil Nadu which reserved seats in education and employment based on communities, split between Christians, Non-Brahmins, Muslims and Brahmins. In June 1950, two petitioned were filed against the GO calling it unfair. TN Government also faced heat on closing down the People’s Education Society and claiming in the court that ‘it was prerogative of the State to declare any association unlawful and imprison their members.’ The Indian Criminal Law Amendment (Madras) Act was declared void by the high court. An active judiciary upholding the principles of Democracy was too much for Nehru to bear right after his near dictatorship found feet in Nasik Congress in August, 1950 where he swore to ‘fight resolutely against Hindu communalism’ and ‘discourage vehemently any criticism of Pakistan’. UP, Bihar, Maharashtra and Madras- all were slipping. In Bihar, Government imposed a ban on Bharti Press for its newsletter Sangram. Shail Bala Devi approached the HC and the order was quashed. Master Tara Singh was in Prison and Punjab too was up in arms. In December, the only person who could put some checks and balances on the despotic Congress chief, Sardar Patel passed away. Nehru now had free hand. His mind was made up.

Immediately after this, Nehru wrote to the CMs, on 31st of December, 1950- ‘We have to make clear that no individual in India, whoever he may be, can challenge the authority of the State or Parliament. We are not going to tolerate any defiance to the State’s authority.’ Nehru then postponed the elections and decided to make his final move towards what is called as the First Amendment of Indian Constitution. In US, the first amendment of Constitution was made to uphold the absolute right to free speech; In India, under Nehru, it was to restrict free speech. What was worse was the provision of Ninth Schedule which placed acts under the dictatorial vault of 9th Schedule outside judicial purview. Dr Rajendra Prasad tried to dissuade Nehru as he wrote with sadness that it is ‘an irony of fate that the part which stands above every other part of the constitution is first to be assailed.’ He also wrote that there was no case for amendment to the fundamental rights. He mentioned that the judicial censure in most cases is not because constitution is bad, but because the laws were drafted poorly. But Nehru will have none of it.

On 12th May, 1951, at 9:31 AM, disrupting ongoing debate on Representation of People’s Act, Nehru presented the first Amendment. Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee led the opposition’s attack urging people to take a stand across party line against this ‘encroachment on the liberty of the people of Free India.’ Rajendra Prasad again tried to discourage Nehru. Nehru, stubbornly and brusquely responded – ‘It would be exceedingly unfortunate if the public became aware that the President held a contrary opinion to that of the Cabinet in such a matter.’ Matter went to Standing Committee with instruction to immediately revert. On 29th May, the word ‘reasonable’ was added to restrictions to free speech. Nehru was opposed to it since this was subjective and could cause a lot of litigation. Nehru declared that if the Constitution restricted his functioning, the Constitution itself will be junked. Congress MPs cheered. One MP from TN claimed that Indians were inferior to the British and therefore should not have unfetter rights of freedom. The opposition was bludgeoned mercilessly and the bill was passed 246 to 14. UP MP KK Bhattacharya’s request for free vote was refused by Nehru and he resigned. Acharya Kriplani had already resigned on 18th of May. Nehru got his first amendment backed by a subservient Congress. The day ended amid ominous dark clouds looming over the Parliament and thunderstorms descending on Delhi. Only thing that stood hanging that day were words of caution made by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee-

“For the saddest epitaph which can be carved in the memory of a vanished liberty is that it was lost because its possessors failed to stretch forth a saving hand while yet there was a time.” Let us remember these words when a journalist is called and grilled for hours on the charge of calling Sonia Gandhi by her pre-marriage name and asking her to comment on the cold-blooded lynching of two Hindu saints in a state ruled by her party, a common citizen is allegedly kidnapped and beaten for hours by the goons of an NCP minister, a hospital is refused an FIR by her Police when attacked by a Congress leader. One doesn’t need to like Arnab or his journalism for that. This is not the matter of person. It is a matter of principles. Let us remember to stretch forth a saving hand while yet there is time.

Congress party cries over ‘press freedom’, days after harassing journalist Arnab Goswami

On Sunday, the Congress party pointed out that India dropped two places on the Press Freedom Index, compiled by an organisation named Reporters Without Borders. The grand-old party also claimed that the BJP is hell-bent on destroying the fourth pillar of democracy. But, events of the past throws light on the Congress’ murky track record in gagging the media.

Congress targets Arnab Goswami

On 27th April, Arnab Goswami was interrogated for over 12 hours by Mumbai Police at NM Joshi Marg Police station in Mumbai. He was questioned after the Congress party filed more than 150 FIRs against him in various states of the country. The Supreme Court had merged all the FIRs into one and transferred to Mumbai. The apex court had also granted interim protection of three weeks to the Republic TV Editor.

On 2nd May the Republic Media CFO S Sundaram was interrogated by Mumbai police for over 7 hours in the case against Arnab Goswami. It may be noted that the case against is Arnab Goswami is over comments he made in his program, and the Chief Financial Officer, which is a non-journalistic position, should not have anything to with the case. But still the CFO was questioned for almost a whole workday, a clear sign of intimidating tactic used by the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra.

The Congress party opened a war front against Arnab Goswami and his TV channel after he had questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi over her silence on the Palghar lynching case where two Hindu saints and their driver were brutally killed by a mob in the presence of police. Arnab Goswami had used the birth name of Sonia Gandhi and had insinuated that she will take the lynching as a success story after forming the govt in Maharashtra. Taking objections to the comment, Congress party had filed police complaints in various states against him, mostly in Congress-ruled states.

Arnab Goswami was also attacked by two Congress goons in the wee hours of the intervening night between the 22nd and the 23rd of April. Although they had confessed to being Congress members before the security officer of Arnab Goswami, the Mumbai police refused to mention that in the FIR registered in the attack. Goswami alleges that attack on him is being ignored by police, while the entire police force has gone after against him.

How Congress silenced media during Emergency?

During the Emergency of 1975, the Congress Government led by Indira Gandhi employed three tactics to censor the media. First, the government reduced advertising on newspapers that were critical of its policies.

Second, to control the flow of information, the government announced the merger of the Press Trust of India (PTI) and the United News of India (UNI). Moreover, it merged the Samachar Bharti and Hindusthan Samachar which published news in Hindi.

Third, the government used intimidatory measures such as eviction from government houses and shutting down media houses, against journalists and publishers. The Government also implemented the Monopoly and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) Act that limited the reach of media to the audience due to lesser prints.

Netizens point out the Irony

Following the tweet by the official Twitter handle of the Congress party, netizens were quick to point out the sheer hypocrisy of the family-run party. A twitter user, Bhargavi, pointed out the dark days of Emergency when journalists who refused to bow down to the diktat of the former prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She also pointed out the 200 FIRs filed against Arnab for questioning the abject silence of the party supremo, Sonia Gandhi.

Another user (@YearOfRat) pointed out how journalist Arnab Goswami was harassed for 12 hours by Mumbai police for stating the birth name of Sonia Gandhi.

The same argument was reiterated by another Tweeple, Ishan Bhardwaj who indicated that people have rejected the Congress for its double speak.

The tweet by the dynasty-run party, lamenting about India’s decline in press freedom index, is not surprising. It has been an established practice within the Congress party to gag media when in power but transform into crusaders of press freedom.

West Bengal: TMC supporter Sheikh Kasemuddin arrested after 153 crude bombs were recovered from his backyard

On Friday, the Bhagwanpur police had reportedly recovered 153 crude bombs from the backyard of one local resident and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporter named Sheikh Kasemuddin in Lalpur village of East Midnapore District in West Bengal. Four people were arrested in connection with the case.

While three of them were released after initial questioning, Kasemuddin was produced before the Kanthi Court on Saturday. He was sent to 14 days in judicial custody by the judge. The crude bombs that were recovered from the back of his house were also defused.

Sheikh Akhtar Ali, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Egra, said, “Illegally stored bombs have been recovered and one person has been arrested. We are questioning the accused about the motive behind stockpiling these crude bombs.”

The incident has created a state of panic among the residents of Lalpur village. The locals have questioned the police as to how such a large quantity of crude bombs was stockpiled under their watch. The cops are also in a state of a dilemma over the recovery of 153 crude bombs, amidst the Coronavirus lockdown.

The Power Tussle within TMC

The cops have been active in the area, following a power tussle between the supporters of Sheikh Azimul, the acting assistant secretary of the Trinamool Congress in Bhagwanpur block, and Harun Rashid (Babulal), a member of Bhagwanpur-1 Panchayat Samiti. The accused Sheikh Kasemuddin is known to be the supporter of Harun Rashid in the area.

As per reports, on April 11, an armed resistance ensured between the two groups, post which Azimul and 44 others were arrested. They were warned by both the district leadership and the block leadership to stop the infighting.

Madan Mohan Patra, Trinamool president of Bhagwanpur-1 block, said, “Despite repeated warnings from the party, they did not listen. They were fighting for power. They were also stockpiling bombs to create unrest. The police have been told to take action against them as per the law.”

Explosion in Illegal Fireworks Factory

In January this year, at least four people were killed and one person was seriously injured in an explosion at an illegal firework manufacturing factory in Naihati in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Noor Hossain, the owner of the factory, has been arrested from Amdanga area in the district on Friday night and a suo motu case of accidental murder along with other sections has been registered against him.

Given the intensity of the blast, locals allege that the illegal fireworks factory was used to manufacture crude bombs, not just fireworks. Police officials have also said that the factory had some strong explosives.

Uttar Pradesh: Bhim Army leader arrested for attacking healthcare workers in Muzaffarnagar

The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Bhim Army district president Upkar Bawra for assaulting a medical staff at district hospital in Muzzaffarnagar on Thursday. According to the reports, the brutal incident took place at the district hospital of Muzaffarnagar after Bawra picked up an argument over medical aid for people who had come from the Purkaji area in the district.

A complaint was registered against Bawra by the medical staff of the hospital. He was arrested on Saturday and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC.

The case has been booked under IPC section 269 – negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 504 – intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and Section 506 – punishment for criminal intimidation.

Bawra on bail currently

Reportedly, Bawra was earlier jailed and later slapped with the NSA in connection with the violence on 2 April 2018. He is currently out on bail.

Anil Kaparwan, the SHO of Nagar-Kotwali police station, confirmed that the Bhim Army leader had been arrested and sent to jail.

Mamata Banerjee govt denies permission for flypast by Indian Air Force to show gratitude for healthcare workers: Reports

The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has decided to not give the approval for Indian Airforce to shower petals over two Kolkata hospital on Sunday as part of a military gesture to show gratitude to the country’s corona warriors, reports Hindustan Times.

According to the reports, the West Bengal government has not approved the request to allow Indian Air force aircraft to fly over two Kolkata hospitals. The hospitals are the ID&BG hospital and the Eastern Command Hospital.

The Indian Air Force helicopters are scheduled to shower petals at hospitals across 23 locations in the country which include Delhi, Leh, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Mumbai, Jaipur, Dispur, Itanagar, Trivandrum and Chennai.

Apart from Delhi, the IAF’s fighter jets will carry out fly-pasts over Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Patna and Lucknow. Also, transport aircraft will fly in formation over 10 cities including Delhi, Srinagar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

However, with the unfortunate politicisation of the Armed Forces tribute to corona warriors by the Mamata Banerjee-led government, the event may not take place in the state capital.

Tensions between Centre and West Bengal government

The conflict has only risen between the Centre and the West Bengal government after the Mamata Banerjee-led government was angry over the centre for sending special teams to the West Bengal to take stock of the coronavirus ground situation.

The Modi government had sent the team after there were various reports stating that Mamata Banerjee-led state government was fudging coronavirus numbers deliberately to keep the numbers low. Further, medical experts had also claimed that the state government was not at all testing the coronavirus symptomatic patients to limit the numbers of positive cases from the state.

West Bengal sitting on a “time-bomb”: Health experts

The allegations of suppression of facts and fudging of data has become a major worry for authorities and health experts in West Bengal, which has now snowballed into a huge controversy between the Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government and health-care experts.

The health-care experts believe that the situation in Bengal is very grave as the Mamata Banerjee-led government has not been giving real data to assess the actual seriousness of the pandemic. From threats to doctors for whistleblowing against the state government against lack of facilities to allegations of state government illegally disposing of dead bodies, there have been serious allegations against the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.

Naveen Patnaik dials up PM Modi who steps in to ensure coronavirus testing kits are delivered in record time

An incident involving a conversation between Odisha CM and PM Modi has gone viral. The viral conversation shows how the Centre and state coordinated to ensure that the testing kits for coronavirus stuck in Mumbai reached Odisha in record time.

The midnight phone call

It was little after midnight when Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When Patnaik emphasised the need for the test kits to be delivered before the morning of the following day, PM Narendra Modi asked, “Do you mean within the next 6 hours?” The Odisha Chief Minister requested temporarily re-opening one of the prime airports in Maharashtra such as Pune, Nashik, or Mumbai airport, and use an Air Force flight to deliver the Coronavirus test kits to Bhubaneswar.

PMO swings into action

Following the midnight phone conversation, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) swung into action. After multiple phone calls, the official orders were typed and faxed to concerned officials. In an unprecedented move, Nashik airport was reopened temporarily and an Air Force flight airlifted the test kits to the capital of Odisha.

In the wee hours of the morning, Government vehicles in Odisha transported the test kits to different destinations. Thus, the concerns of an enthusiastic Chief Minister was put to rest. PMO has also been working tirelessly to provide resources to the States to fight the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus in Odisha

As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website, Odisha has recorded 157 total positive cases as of 3rd May 2020. Of these, 56 have recovered while 1 has passed away. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had earlier announced Rs 2,200 crore package for the poor to fight coronavirus. The Chandan Yatra of the Jagannath temple in Puri was held without the devotees last week amid coronavirus lockdown. There is also uncertainty over the Rath Yatra, which has been going on continuously for centuries.

Indian Air Force, Navy carry out flypast and shower petals to salute brave corona warriors: Watch visuals

In an effort to salute the brave frontline workers who are fighting the Chinese pandemic coronavirus by putting themselves at risk, the Indian Armed Forces has decided to salute the brave corona warriors through various military gestures on Sunday.

Reportedly, the Indian Air Force has decided to conduct a flypast in various cities and also shower petals on coronavirus hospitals, while the Indian Navy will light up its warships to express their gratitude towards coronavirus warriors who are battling the pandemic.

On Friday, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, with all three service heads, had announced the “gesture of special gratitude” will consist of the Air Force conducting flypasts across the length and breadth of the country.

Indian Air Force to carry out flypast

The Indian Air Force aircraft will cover major towns starting from Srinagar to Thiruvananthapuram and Dibrugarh to Kutch. The helicopters from the IAF and Indian Navy will fly over hospitals treating coronavirus patients and shower petals as a tribute to the coronavirus warriors.

In the national capital, the aerial salute to the corona warriors’ from the fighter and transport aircraft was scheduled to fly between 10 am-11 am. However, due to heavy rain, the flypast has been delayed by one hour.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Air Force flights carried out a fly past over Srinagar’s Dal Lake to pay tribute to medical professionals and all other frontline workers.

The flypast event is combined with the training activity of the IAF and opportunity flight for transport aircraft and helicopters who are involved in moving supplies related to coronavirus task.

Two IAF C-130J Super Hercules special operations transport aircraft took off from Srinagar earlier today and flew over Chandigarh few minutes back.

Fighter aircraft formations, comprising of the Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG-29 and Jaguar will be flying over Rajpath, and will orbit over Delhi and will be visible to the residents of Delhi from their rooftops. In addition, C-130 transport aircraft will follow a similar profile as fighters covering the entire Delhi and NCR region.

Fighter aircraft plans

The Indian Air Force helicopters are also scheduled to drop flower petals over the Police War Memorial at 9 am, followed by Delhi hospitals involved in providing relief to patients of coronavirus between 10-10.30 am.

Similarly, the IAF is scheduled to shower flower petals over two hospitals in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar between 9-10 am. Flower petals will also be dropped in Itanagar, Guwahati, Shillong and Kolkata, around 10.30 am. The Air Force band will be playing in Guwahati as well for paying tribute to the corona warriors.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, the flower-petal showering will take place at KGMU and SGPGI Trauma Center between 10.15-10.30 am. Fighter aircraft will flypast over Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow around 12.20 pm. In Bengaluru, the Indian Airforce will shower petals on Victoria Hospital and Command Hospital at 10:45 am.

Helicopter plans

The aerial salute from the armed forces will be flown as low as 500 meters so that citizens of the country will be able to witness the event from their home. The military bands will visit various civil hospitals treating coronavirus patients across the country to express their gratitude by playing patriotic tunes.

Indian Navy to salute brave warriors

On Sunday evening, the Indian Navy will light up its warships and flare fires in solidarity with the corona warriors on the coasts of Mumbai, Porbandar, Karwar, Vizag, Chennai, Kochi and Port Blair.

Meanwhile, the Indian Naval Aviation assets will be showering petals by helicopters on hospitals treating coronavirus patients in Mumbai, Goa, Kochi and Vizag between 10 am-10.30 am.

Navy Choppers showered flower petals in Panaji, Goa.

The Indian Coast Guard ships will also be seen at 24 places including Porbandar, Okha, Ratnagiri, Dahanu, Murud, Goa, New Mangalore, Kavaratti, Karaikal, Chennai, Krishnapatnam, Nizamapatanam, Puducherry, Kakinada, Paradip, Gopalpur/Puri, Sagar Island, Port Blair, Diglipur, Mayabundur, Hut bay and Campbel Bay.

The Eastern Naval Command will illuminate two ships at anchorage from 7:30 pm to midnight at Visakhapatnam coast. The Naval Air Stations at Goa would display human chain messages on the runway to honour the corona warriors.

This is the third major show of gratitude to frontline corona workers, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s request to Indians to clap for the coronavirus warriors from their balconies. Later, people expressed their salutes to these warriors by switching off their lights and lighting candles and diyas on the PM’s request.

Lockdown relaxations

Today also marks the conclusion of the second phase of lockdown which was announced by PM Modi two weeks back. Significant relaxations are given in areas where coronavirus infection spread is less. The phased lockdown has been extended by two more weeks till May 17.

Pakistanis celebrate as 4 Indian Army personnel lose their lives in terrorist encounter in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir

As news emerged that four Indian Army personnel died fighting the Pakistani terrorists, the Pakistanis and Islamists took to social media to celebrate the Handwara attacks.

The Islamists mocked the Handwara by claiming that it was a repeat of Abhinandan Varthaman episode, in which the Airforce fighter pilot was captured by Pakistani Army right after Indian Airforce had stuck terrorist hubs at Balakot inside Pakistan.

Tweet by Pakistani celebrating Handwara attack
An Islamist who proclaimed that terrorist Burhan Wani is his hero in his Twitter profile tweeted how the Kashmiris would be happy.
