Arvind Kejriwal indulges in fearmongering about CAA using lies, NDTV’s Nidhi Razdan contributes to his falsehoods

Ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by both houses of the parliament, the opposition parties and left-liberal media has been running full-fledge propaganda against it. Most of the oppositions to the CAA are based on lies, aimed at creating baseless fear among Muslim citizens of India, but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal crossed all limits of lies by claiming that every citizen, including Hindus, who don’t have own and parent’s birth certificates will have to leave India due to CAA.

The Delhi CM made this comment in a townhall session on NDTV moderated by Nidhi Razdan. Although the session includes the CM taking questions from the audience, a question on CAA was asked by the moderator herself. She said that entire country is debating the Citizenship Amendment Act, and asked Kejriwal to clarify his stand on the issue, adding that several opposition CMs have said that they will not implement the CAA and NRC in their respective states.

To this, first Kejriwal said that he does not understand the act at all. After that he proceeds to narrate an incident about meeting a person named Satish Pandey a few days ago, who has come to Delhi from UP or Bihar. “I asked him whether he has birth certificate issued by government, he said no. He said ‘I was born at home, and in those days birth certificates were not issued’. After that I asked what about your parents, he said when ‘I don’t have when how my parents will have it?’ After that I told him, now what will do? You will have to leave the country,” the Delhi CM said making a completely false statement and creating fear among people.

After that, he went to take a poll of people in the audience asking how many have own and parent’s birth certificates issued by the govt, and it turned out that only 15-20 people had it. “Out of around 1000 people sitting here, only 15-20 people have raised their hands, rest all will have to go away from the country”, he said. Nidhi Razdan ably contributed to this fearmongering by adding “whether they are Hindu or Muslim”, which was promptly agreed by Kejriwal.

He then added, for Hindus coming from Pakistan, the central government will make their papers, for Hindus in India, if they don’t have papers, they will have to leave the country. “Read the law if I am wrong”, he asserted. Kejriwal went on by saying so much love for Pakistani Hindus, but Indian Hindus will have to leave if they don’t have papers, what was the need of this law I don’t understand.

When Nidhi Razdan mentioned that the prime minister and home minister have clarified that CAA and NRC are not linked and the govt is not talking about NRC at present, Kejriwal asked her when will they talk about this. After that he added that govt is bringing 2 crore Hindus from Pakistan, and asked where will they be settled. He said that govt should think about economy and jobs, and not create controversy by making the law.

On this entire section on CAA, every word that Kejriwal uttered was a lie, starting from when he said he does not understand the law. It is not that he is misunderstanding the CAA, but it is clear that he is deliberately spreading lies.

The CAA is a special relaxation given to 6 minority communities facing persecution in 3 neighbouring Islamic countries, and it has absolutely nothing to do Indian citizens. Therefore, to claim that Indian citizens, including Hindus, will have to show their and their parent’s birth certificates due to the Act is absolutely false. The claim that Indians will have to leave the country for not having official birth certificate is laughable.

Read- Indian Muslims do not stand to suffer due to the CAA-NRC combo: Here are the laws and guidelines explained

The CAA is for those people who have already entered before 31st December 2014, and they are already living in India. There is no question of bringing 2 crore Hindus from Pakistan under CAA as Kejriwal is claiming. Any person coming after the cut-off will have to go through the usual naturalisation process as per the Foreigners Act, they will not get the relaxation provided by CAA.

While Arvind Kejriwal was uttering these lies on CAA, instead of countering him, the moderator Nidhi Razdan instead chose to contribute to his fearmongering. Not even once she mentioned that CAA has nothing to do with Indian citizens. Even if it is accepted that Kejriwal was mixing up CAA and NRC, as a journalist she should have corrected him.

Moreover, the fearmongering about NRC is also totally baseless, as the central government has yet to make any official announcement on it, and nobody knows what will be its shape and how it will be implemented. Even in the recently updated NRC in Assam, people were not asked for their birth certificates. The government had published the legacy documents, which were the NRC of 1951 and the voter lists upto 1972. People had to find the names of their or their parents or grandparents etc in those documents, and rest of the family had to prove relationship with that person using a number of official documents, not just birth certificates.

More importantly, the NRC of Assam can’t be replicated in pan Indian level, as Assam has special provision in the Foreigners Act due to the Assam Accord, and the cut off date for citizens in Assam is different, 24th March 1972. The Assam Accord makes if mandatory to deport foreigners who have come illegally after that date, therefore it was necessary to identify such persons using the NRC.

But the NRC at national level will not have deal with these issues, therefore it will be a completely different exercise. Even if opposition parties want to oppose, they should at least wait till the government comes up with a proposal for it, instead of creating needless fear among people and instigate riots and violence in the name of protests.

From whitewashing Indian Islamists to shielding Pakistan ones: Congress calls Nankana Sahib video fake, says Mullah threatening Sikhs is ‘Sanghi bhasha’

On Friday, in yet another incident reaffirming the persecution of minorities in Pakistan, the angry mob of Muslims had gathered around the Sikh shrine of Gurudwara Nankana Sahib and started pelting stones at it. The mob of angry Muslims gheraoed the holy shrine on Friday afternoon, leaving many devotees stranded inside. The protesters threatened to destroy the gurdwara and build a mosque in its place.

Hundreds of Muslims protestors swarmed the Gurudwara Nankana Sahib and raised inflammatory slogans against the Sikhs. “We will not let any Sikh live in Nankana Sahib and will its name to Ghulam-e-Mustafa,” one of the irate Muslim protestors exclaimed.

The mob was being led by the family of Mohammad Hassan, the boy who allegedly abducted and converted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, who is the daughter of the gurdwara’s granthi. The family was Hassan is seen in all videos where the mob can be seen attacking the Gurudwara.

In one of the several videos that surfaced, the Muslim protestor who is purportedly the family of Mohammad Hassan can be seen saying, “Main aa raha hu Sikhon, anjaam bahut bura hoga, ya Allah, La Illaha Illallah” (I am coming Sikhs, the result will be bad. Ya Allah. La Illaha Illallah).

Plugging that video, BJP spokesperson Sambhi Patra quipped and asked someone to translate the threats in Italian so Congress can stop asking for proof of minority persecution in Pakistan.

The quip was because, after the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the parliament by the BJP government, that gives citizenship to persecuted minorities of Pakistan that have fled the Islamic State, Congress has fast descended into madness and appeasement of radical Islamists.

The Congress has joined hands with radical Islamists in India who have been running riots since the passage of the bill. Congress has been seen actively shielding them, egging them on and even justifying the violence unleashed by Muslim mobs.

In response, the Chhattisgarh Congress decided to move from whitewashing Indian jihadis to shielding their Pakistani counterparts.

The official handle of Congress Chhattisgarh chose to indulge in shocking chicanery.

Congress, in response to Sambhit Patra, said that the language being used by the Mullah in Pakistan threatening Sikhs is the language which is used by “sanghis”. “Sanghis” is a pejorative term used by Congress, Islamists and Leftists to refer to Hindus and those who in general support Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Further, Congress Chhattisgarh alleged that the video that shows the Mullah threatening the Sikhs of Pakistan was fake. They said that “both sides” (alleging India and Pakistan) have been spreading fake videos where they can be seen using “the same kind of language”.

Read: Won’t let Sikhs live in Nankana Sahib: Muslim mob led by family of man who abducted and converted Jagjit Kaur pelt stones at Gurudwara in Pakistan

Firstly, it is important to clarify that the video does not appear to be fake. Journalist Ravinder Robin Singh had posted several videos where the same man in the same clothes can be seen as a part of the mob that attacked Nankana Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan.

The first image below is a snapshot of the video uploaded by the journalist who broke the news and the second is from the video that has been plugged by Sambhit Patra. One can see that in both the pictures, it is the same Mullah in the same clothes.

Screengrab from the video uploaded by Sambit Patra

Furthermore, it is shocking that Congress would shield the family of the boy who abducted and forcefully converted a Sikh girl and was then baying for Sikh blood to get the criminal boy released.

One also wonders how Congress drew an equivalence between the threats being issued by Muslim mob to Sanghis when it is there allies who have been screaming “La illaha Illellah” and “Hinduon se Azadi” while rioting against CAA. Clearly, after shielding the Islamists and Muslim mobs of India, Congress has now moved to shield the Jihadis of Pakistan.

It is pertinent to note that several Congress leaders have been booked for the anti-CAA riots by Muslim mobs that have gripped the nation.

While investigating the incidents of statewide violence which occurred on December 21, the Patna Police recently got their hands on Congress leader Ashutosh Sharma who has been accused of attacking media people during the Bihar bandh and has been on the run since then. Congress leader Ashutosh Sharma was caught on camera assaulting journalists at the Dak Bungalow Chowk in Patna. The Congress leader was reportedly on the run after the case was registered against him.

The crime branch of Ahmedabad police had nabbed a Congress leader for posting a fake and misleading video on social media which incited a Muslim mob during a protest march at Shah-e-Alam, Gujarat, where several police officials were brutally attacked by Muslim mobs.

Congress party’s minority cell member Umar Khan Pathan had shared a video on social media in which a police action against rioters from Lucknow was passed on as an incident in Ahmedabad stoking violence in the Shah-e-Alam. The fake news had unleashed a violent Muslim mob, who attacked and injured more than 25 policemen on duty.

The Ahmedabad Police had arrested Congress Corporator Shehzad Khan Pathan along with 32 others for carrying out the deadly attack during anti-CAA riots on police personnel. They have been booked for attempt to murder, rioting and assaulting police.

Additionally, Six people including four local politicians and the former Congress MLA were named as suspects in the Delhi Police FIR related to Jamia violence. The Delhi Police had named former Congress MLA Asif Khan as one of the accused in its FIR.

How did Rohingya Muslims reach Jammu? Govt next move will be to deport illegal Rohingyas: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday asserted the government’s next move will be to deport Rohingyas, who are currently staying illegally in the country. Raising questions about how Rohingyas settled in Jammu, he also said that the Citizenship Amendment act (CAA) was implemented in Jammu and Kashmir the day it was passed by Parliament, reports India Today.

Addressing the officers of the Jammu and Kashmir government at a three-day training programme in Jammu, Union Minister Jitendra Singh demanded a probe into how the Rohingyas reached and settled down in the northern-most belt of Jammu after passing through several states from West Bengal.

Demanding a probe into the circumstances that led the Rohingyas to travel such a long distance, Singh said that it is for researchers and analysts to know how Rohingya Muslims came so far from Bengal, travelling through several states.

Jitendra Singh also wondered whether there was any design or political motive behind the settling down of Rohingya Muslims in Jammu. Who paid for their tickets to Jammu from Bengal, Singh asked.

“The CAA has been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir the day it was passed by Parliament. There are no ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’, by the implementation of the CAA in Jammu and Kashmir, what would happen here is that the next move would be in relation to (the deportation) of Rohingyas,” Singh said.

The minister also pointed out that Jammu had a sizable population of Rohingyas. “What will be the plan of their (Rohingyas’) deportation, the Centre is concerned about it. Lists would be prepared. Wherever needed, biometric identity cards will be given, because the CAA does not give leverage to Rohingyas,” Singh said.

Minister Singh added that Rohingyas neither belong to the six religious minorities nor to any of the three neighbouring countries – Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who will be given citizenship under the new law.

“Rohingyas came to the country from Myanmar and hence, they would have to go back,” he added.

Reportedly, there are more than 13,700 foreigners, including Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshi nationals, who are currently settled in Jammu and Samba districts. According to the government, the population of Rohingyas has increased by over 6,000 between 2008 and 2016.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other social organisations have been demanding the deportation of the Rohingyas from a very long time now.

Rohingya Muslims are also considered to be national security for India. According to the Border Security Force(BSF) report, Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad(JeM) was imparting training to Rohingya Muslims to carry out attacks in different parts of India.

The report had suggested that a top JeM commander, Saber Ahmed, who is currently in Pakistan, has targetted disgruntled Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh’s Cox Bazar and indoctrinating them to carry out terror attacks in India.

In 2017, the central government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that they were around 40,000 Rohingya refugees living in India as “a security threat” and said they must be deported to Myanmar.

As Muslim mob pelts stones on Nankana Sahib, NDTV journalist worries about visuals being used for ‘pro-CAA propaganda’

On Friday, in yet another incident reaffirming the persecution of minorities in Pakistan, an angry mob of Muslims had gathered around the Sikh shrine of Gurudwara Nankana Sahib and started pelting stones at it.

While the shocking videos of a Muslim mob baying for blood should shock the very conscience of any reporter and should get them to focus on the plight of minority Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis etc in the Islamic state of Pakistan, NDTV journalist Sreenivasan Jain was worried for a completely different reason.

Read: Won’t let Sikhs live in Nankana Sahib: Muslim mob led by family of man who abducted and converted Jagjit Kaur pelt stones at Gurudwara in Pakistan

Calling it “terrible news”, Sreenivasan Jain of NDTV was far more worried about the visuals being used for “pro-CAA propaganda” than the plight of the Sikhs who were living under the threat of life by Islamic mobs.

Sreenivasan Jain, who is a veteran propagandist seemed to be exceedingly concerned about the shocking visuals of a Muslim mob pelting stones on a Sikh shrine in Pakistan being used for ‘pro-CAA propaganda’.

It is worthy to note here that the visuals which surfaced on Friday night have shocked the nation and several people were outraged and praying for the safety of the Sikhs of Pakistan. It is being reported that the Muslim mob dispersed only after police released Hassan, the man who had abducted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, daughter of the Gurdwara’s panthi. The mob was being led by the family of Mohammad Hassan, the boy who allegedly abducted and converted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, who is the daughter of the gurdwara’s granthi.

In August 2019, Mohammad Hassan had abducted Jagjit Kaur, a daughter of a Sikh priest in Nankana Sahib, and forcibly married her after converting her into Islam. A video had gone viral showing one of the girl’s family members claiming that a group of men barged into their house, abducted Kaur, forcibly converted her to Islam and made her marry Hassan. However, Hassan denied having kidnapped the girl, claiming that she had married him out of her own volition. This resulted in clashes between the Sikh and Muslim community of Nankana Sahib.

The entire saga only points towards the abysmal living conditions of minorities of Pakistan. While these incidents of persecution should only strengthen the resolve of the Indian state and its opinion-makers to ensure justice to these minorities and make attempts that not a single minority member from Pakistan should go back to these living conditions, the NDTV journalist actually used it to deride Citizenship Amendment Act.

India has seen widespread riots by Muslim mobs following the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act. Muslims, spearheaded by political parties like the Congress and journalists like Sreenivasan Jain have opposed CAA claiming that it is anti-Muslim. While none of them has been able to explain exactly how it is anti-Muslim, the country has seen widespread riots, stone pelting, arson and violence.

As Sreenivasan Jain says, CAA is in all probability an act to give citizenship to those Pakistan minorities who have been living in India since 2014. However, even if that is the case, why Sreenivasan Jain would oppose the CAA is something that is baffling.

After watching the videos of Muslim mobs baying for Sikh blood, one would imagine that Sreenivasan Jain would express concern for those minorities of Pakistan and as a journalist pose questions to the terror state of Pakistan, however, Sreenivasan Jain was seen further propagating against CAA.

Read: Latest media reports about anti-CAA violence in Patna make no mention of Hanuman Temple that was vandalised

Earlier too, Sreenivasan Jain had made ridiculous claims in his opposition to CAA. During the debate in the Parliament on the introduction of the CAB, Union Home Minister said that the Bill wasn’t against minorities at all. Responding to it on Twitter, Sreenivasan Jain argued how could a Bill that specifically “excludes” a “minority community” not be against minorities.

It appeared that Jain was arguing that Muslims are minorities in the Islamic States of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. CAA seeks to provide citizenship to the persecuted religious minorities from these three countries. And Muslims, in the countries mentioned, are the majority community. Quite obviously, Muslims cannot be considered a persecuted religious minority in an Islamic State.

Sreenivasan Jain is known to misrepresent facts in order to peddle a certain narrative. He has done so on several occasions in the past. He has also edited interviews of his guests in order to favour his preordained narrative. He is also known for his false equivalences and equating online speech with actual violence.

Muslim mob at Nankana Sahib disperses after man who abducted and converted Sikh girl is released, Pak denies everything, India condemns

Following the attack on Sikhs by the Muslim mob at revered Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan, the Indian government on Friday expressed its concern and called upon the neighbouring country to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of the Sikh community living in Pakistan.

In a statement, the Indian foreign ministry said New Delhi called on the government of Pakistan to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims who regularly visit the shrine that marks the birthplace of the founder of Sikhism. It also demanded strong action against the perpetrators of violence and vandalism.

“We are concerned at the vandalism carried out at the revered Nankana Sahib Gurdwara today. Members of the minority Sikh community have been subjected to acts of violence in the holy city of Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Shri Guru Nanak Dev,” the statement said.

“India strongly condemns these wanton acts of destruction and desecration of the holy place. We call upon the Government of Pakistan to take immediate steps to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the members of the Sikh community,” the statement said.

The Indian government also asked Pakistan to take strong action against the miscreants who indulged in the desecration of the holy Gurudwara and attacked members of the minority Sikh community.

On Friday, in yet another incident reaffirming the persecution of minorities in Pakistan, the angry mob of Muslims had gathered around the Sikh shrine of Gurudwara Nanakana Sahib and started pelting stones at it. The mob was being led by the family of Mohammad Hassan, the boy who allegedly abducted and converted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, who is the daughter of the gurdwara’s granthi.

The police along with the Pakistani Rangers and Army had rushed to the spot to quell the protest but so far they had failed in dispersing the violent mob away from the Gurudwara. The situation was brought under control after the local police and Pak Rangers arrested the protesters.

However, the mobs dispersed only after police released Hassan, the man who had abducted Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, daughter of the Gurdwara’s panthi.

According to journalist Ravinder Singh Robin, the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC) president Satwant Singh had a meeting with the Sikhs at Nankana Sahib at midnight and demanded that Pakistan government should arrest the culprits under section 295 following the attacks on the Gurudwara.

Shockingly, Khalistani terrorist Gopal Singh Chawla can also be seen alongside Satwant Singh in the video.

However, following the attacks, the terror state of Pakistan has rejected reports of Gurdwara Nanakana Sahib being was attacked and desecrated by the Muslim mob. In a statement, the Foreign Office said that the provincial authorities in the Punjab province have informed them that it was a scuffle between two Muslim groups and not an attack on Sikhs.

According to the Pakistan government, the altercation happened on a minor incident at a tea-stall. It claimed that the District Administration immediately intervened and arrested the accused.

“Attempts to paint this incident as a communal issue are patently motivated. Most importantly, the Gurdwara remains untouched and undamaged. All insinuations to the contrary, particularly the claims of acts of desecration and destruction’ and desecration of the holy place, are not only false but also mischievous,” said the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

The Government of Pakistan also claimed that it was committed to upholding law and order and providing security and protection to the people, especially the minorities.

Delhi-based think tank pulls down essays of hate-monger Rohit Chopra alias ‘IndiaExplained’ for calling for PM Modi’s assassination

The sheer hatred expressed by left-liberals towards Hindus, particularly PM Narendra Modi is not unknown anymore. In one such incident, an ultra-left wing ‘intellectual’, who runs fake news accounts on social media, shockingly expressed death wish to PM Modi and also ran a bizarre poll on Twitter. Rohit Chopra, who resorts to peddling fake news and openly expresses his contempt for PM Modi and Hindus on social media, ran a poll on one of his Twitter account ‘IndiaExplained’.

The poll ran by Chopra asked the users to vote to decide on how will Home Minister Amit Shah murder Modi to succeed as the next Prime Minister. Chopra’s shocking hatred towards PM Modi and his death wish for the country’s Prime Minister was displayed after he presented four extremely disturbing ‘options’ to assassinate PM Modi.

The Twitter poll ran by Rohit Chopra.

He further ran an abusive tirade against the Prime Minister and Home Minister. Though being abusive is not a novel phenomenon for this handle, the sheer viciousness of his latest tweets caught the attention of many.

Tweet by Rohit Chopra

Later, it was revealed that one of the country’s premier Delhi-based think-tank Observers Research Foundation (ORF) has published essay’s of the rabid hate monger. Social media users expressed their shock not only against the so-called poll but also after it was revealed that ultra-left wing fake news peddler was part of ORF.

Several social media users sought clarification from ORF and its president Samir Saran for providing space for fake news peddler and hate-mongering Rohit Chopra.

Following social media outrage, Samir Saran, the President of ORF, said the organisation did not accept ‘violent speech’ at the workplace or on social media. Saran said that ORF records its disapproval and added that Chopra’s essays for ORF will be taken down.

Following the social media outrage over such hate-mongering poll on its platform, the Twitter has finally suspended the Rohit Chopra’s Twitter account ‘@IndiaExplained’.

However, despite Twitter suspending one of his accounts, the desperate Rohit Chopra has now resorted to another poll similar to the one he ran previously, but this time on his official social media expressing his death wish against PM Modi.

Tweet by Rohit Chopra

Also, after ORF pulled down his essays, Chopra seems to have lost any sense of decency of semblance.

He took to Twitter through his second handle and asserted that ORF should “show the same initiative about the actual violence wreaked by the BJP”. One is not sure how ORF is in a position to “remove the articles of Modi and Shah”, nonetheless, Rohit is now known for his intellectual prowess and often makes such wild allegations sans proof.

Further, Rohit unleashed filth on Twitter probably miffed with being tossed out by ORF because of his hate.

This is not the first time that a social media account run by Rohit Chopra has been involved in a controversy. Chopra had to rename his previous account ‘@RushdieExplains’ – a parody account of India born English author Salman Rushdie, after Salman Rushdie had himself slapped Chopra for posting his opinions on behalf of Rushdie.

Following the embarrassment, Chopra changed his username, indicating that he was not ready to change his ways and continue doing the same propaganda and hate-mongering through a new profile ‘@Indiaexplained’, which is suspended by Twitter currently for calling for the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Hooliganism yet again: Masked JNU ‘students’ barge into information centre, switch severs off and forcibly evict technical staff

0

On Friday, the students of controversial Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) disrupted the registration process for the winter semester by barging into the Centre for Information System office and cut off the power supply to protest against the fee hike, reports Hindustan Times.

JNU registrar Pramod Kumar on Friday issued a statement saying, “The student agitators in JNU crossed all boundaries of decency and discipline and appear determined to cause as much damage to the academic interest of their fellow students as possible. At around 1 pm on January 3, a group of students using masks on their faces forcibly entered the office of the Centre for Information System, switched off the power supply, forcibly evicted all the technical staff, and made the servers dysfunctional.”

Following the incident, the JNU administration has said it would take disciplinary action against all students involved in the incident.

The registrar further stated that the registration process was disrupted for the whole day. “The university will take strict disciplinary action against the agitators who caused enormous hardship to thousands of students,” Kumar said.

Reportedly, the university on December 3, 2019, had announced registrations for the winter semester from January 1 with the hiked fee and asked students to complete their academic requirements for the last semester by January 20. However, JNUSU had announced a boycott of the registration process until the administration rolled back the fee.

Aishe Ghosh, president of left-wing dominated JNU Students Union (JNUSU), claimed that the union was not aware of any such incident. “We did not give any such call to gherao the Centre for Information System. We are not aware of any student getting involved in the incident mentioned by the administration,” she said.

The JNU has been held hostage by the ‘students’, especially belonged to ultra-left wing groups from October after the varsity had decided to hike the hostel fees.

As a part of the protest, the students boycotted the semester exams and blocked the gates of schools and centres. The protests had even taken a violent form after some ‘activists’ of JNU had vandalised a soon-to-be inaugurated statue of Swami Vivekananda on campus while protesting about the new fees structure and added restrictions.

The students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) had also mounted an assault against the vice-chancellor (VC), M Jagadesh Kumar, in the university campus.

After resorting to endless vandalism and hooliganism, clashing with the police, heckling reporters and attacking teachers the JNU goons, the left-wing students had blocked scientist Dr Anand Ranganathan from entering his laboratory.

Earlier, the JNU students had kept a faculty member named Dr Vandana Mishra, who is the Associate Dean of the university in illegal captivity, abused and attacked the Dean for 30 hours. Prior to this, the JNU goons had also forcibly stopped the ambulance in which the Dean was being taken for medical care even though the Dean’s health was deteriorating alarmingly.

No respite for scam accused Congress leader P Chidambaram, gets grilled by ED in UPA-era aviation scam

Predicaments of Congress stalwart P Chidambaram are not going to end any time soon. Barely a month after being released from Tihar jail, the former union minister was on Friday questioned by the ED for almost six hours in connection with its money-laundering investigation in an alleged scam in aircraft purchase during the UPA tenure.

Chidambaram’s statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), an ED official known to the case said.

The case is related to the losses endured by Air India due to purported multi-crore scam in purchase of Boeing and Airbus planes for the state airline, and wrongdoing in fixing air slots for international airlines during the UPA regime. According to sources, file for approval of Airbus planes went through P Chidambaram, and it became necessary for the investigators to question him in connection with the deal.

A panel of ministers headed by P Chidambaram had approved the purchase of 43 Airbus aircraft for Air India. Initially, there was a condition that the manufacturer has to build training facilities and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) centres in India. But later this stipulation was removed when the final purchase order was issued. Due to this, Airbus got an undue benefit of $175 million, the amount it was supposed to invest in India.

The law enforcement had in August last year also summoned the scam accused former Congress minister in relations to the case. Prior to this, former aviation minister Praful Patel was also questioned by the ED in the same case.

Read- Congress era lobbyist Deepak Talwar received nearly Rs 360 crore to influence UPA minister and top bureaucrats to favour international airlines: ED

It was earlier reported in February that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had found dubious deposits alleged to be the kickbacks paid by the international airlines into several accounts of extradited Congress era lobbyist Deepak Talwar. The ED had discovered Rs 270 crores deposited in Bank of Singapore by international airlines and another Rs 88 crore received in his NGO to influence some top ministers and bureaucrats in the previous UPA regime, reported Times of India.

According to reports, France based Airbus SAS and UK-based MBDA had paid around ₹90.72 crores to Advantage India for education and healthcare-related activities. Advantage India is an NGO owned by Deepak Talwar. In 2010, Advantage received ₹45 crores from Airbus, while in 2012-13 the NGO was paid ₹20.9 crores by Airbus and ₹13.7 crores by MBDA, in violation of FCRA rules.

When the accounts of the NGO were investigated by the Income Tax department, it was revealed the amount was not used in any healthcare or education activities. Instead, the fund was diverted to accounts belonging to Deepak Talwar and his family members. Investigations were initiated into the matter in the US too.

The parody nation Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan once again made a fool of himself on Twitter after he shared an old video from Bangladesh to claim that Indian police is committing atrocities against the Muslim population in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

In a series of tweets, Imran Khan shared videos to state that the Muslims in India are being brutally targeted by the law enforcement officials in Uttar Pradesh. However, Twitter is a ruthless place to share lies and distortions. In minutes, users started pointing out that the video shared by the Pakistani Prime Minister is a 7-year old video from Bangladesh.

The video pertains to Bangladesh and it shows action initiated by Bangladeshi police force against the members of Hafzat-e-Islam, an Islamist advocacy group. The video was posted on Youtube on September 10, 2013, while the incident had happened in May that year.

The Bangladesh security forces took this action after protests by radical Islamist groups had turned violent and police were attacked by the protesters. The Islamic fundamentalists were demanding a new anti-blasphemy law and the death penalty for “atheist bloggers”.

Even the UP Police came forward to fact-check the Pakistani PM. They noted that the uniform of the security forces have RAB written on them, which means Rapid Action Bangladesh, and people were speaking Bengali in the video.

Imran Khan has now deleted the tweet after he was pointed out that it is not from India.

Ever since the government of India has abrogated the Article 370, stripping the state of Jammu and Kashmir of its separate status, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, is having a hard time reconciling with this new reality. The enactment of CAA has only exacerbated Khan’s neurosis. As a result, concerted attempts are being made by him to share lies, misleading information and old videos to malign the international standing of India.

Khan has been routinely comparing the democratically elected regime of Narendra Modi to dictator Hitler and his fascist Nazi party and thereby trivialising the sufferings of millions of persecuted Jews. Khan aims to fuel anarchy in India through his motivated tweets and video to create a rift between the communities and disrupt the law and order of the nation.

The Uttar Pradesh police have promiscuously acted against the rampaging mob who tried to indulge in vandalism, arson and stone-pelting under the guise of carrying out ‘peaceful protests’ against the legislation of the Citizenship Amendment Act that aims to grant citizenship to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan’s own record of treating its minorities is pretty dismal. There have been several cases of girls belonging to minority communities being abducted and converted to Islam before being forcibly married off to their captors. Recently, angry mob of Muslims in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan surrounded the Gurudwara Nankana Sahib and pelted stones at it. They shouted slogans saying they will not let a single Sikh live in Nankana Sahib.

Kalari Marma Chikitsa- Ayurvedic center keeps ancient healing technique alive

It is 6.45 am and the doors of the clinic have not yet opened, but already a crowd is waiting patiently for Shatrughnan Gurukkal. Sajith, a senior student at the Kalari, wraps up the Kalaripayattu class with the Shanthi mantra and then proceeds to the treatment room. The day at the Kalari Chikitsa clinic has just begun. It is going to be a long day – tying splints to join broken bones, bandaging old wounds with a ‘magical’ green paste using long swathes of muslin cloth, and applying hot packs on torn ligaments and muscles.

I have just arrived at Hindustan Kalari Sangam, for my annual rejuvenation therapy (as I would like to call it). This is a seven-day massage therapy that keeps me energetic and free from injuries for the rest of the year; a ritual that I have been following for the last 8-10 years. Each year I await the monsoons in Kerala, and try to schedule my massage to synchronize with the rains.

Kalari Marma Chikitsa is a technique for healing injuries relating to the musculoskeletal system that evolved alongside the martial art form itself. While Ayurveda is an integral part of this healing methodology, there are several medicines and treatment methods that have evolved from traditional folk medicine. As a result, over the years, it has evolved into a highly specialized technique for treatment of injuries relating to bones, muscles, nerves, joints and tissues.  So, it is not altogether surprising that people make a beeline for this place, rather than visiting a hospital when they have an accident, or have sprained their ankle playing football.

Chavittu uzhichil (massage using the legs) as it is called, is a technique, unique to this treatment method. I have read somewhere that it originated from Tulunadu, but is now an integral part of the Northern Kalari tradition.

Foot massage in Kalari Marma therapy

In this technique, the patient lies down on a reed mat (sometimes a wooden cot) while the teacher holds on to a rope hanging from the ceiling and massages the person with his feet. This requires great skill, and is practised only by someone who has learned Kalari and has reached a level of mastery in that.

The massage itself is a blissful experience. As I lie prone, Shatrughnan Gurukkal applies oil on the arms and legs and proceeds to massage my body using his feet. The movements are smooth and rhythmic and every now and then, he instructs me to shift the position of the arms or legs. The entire process takes about 30 minutes, after which he does the kizhi (a hot pack of navara rice soaked in milk). This sticky liquid is gently applied all over the body.

The most difficult part of the process is staying awake after the massage. A simple diet that is easy on the stomach, and strict instructions not to exert oneself, to stay out of the sun, heat and dust are the general prescriptions during this period. The patient is also instructed not to exert himself too much for an equal period of time following the treatment. This rest period allows the body to come back to normal from its state of extreme relaxation, thus allowing a complete rejuvenation of the body.

At a deeper level, it is supposed to clear the blocks in the energy pathways of the body, thus allowing a free flow of the vital energy (Prana). Marma is the term used to refer to the vital points, which when impacted can cause extreme pain, disability or even death. According to Ayurveda texts, there are about 108 marma sthanams (vital points) in the body. Kalari Marma Chikitsa directs its attention at relieving any obstruction of these marma points, and thus enabling the flow of energy to revitalize the body.

A lot of the traditional knowledge has been passed down through generations and the decline of Kalaripayattu as a tradition has resulted in much of this knowledge being lost over time.  This is a highly specialized skill that is taught only to the most deserving students. One hopes that this ancient tradition does not completely disappear, and efforts are taken by the present-day masters to revive and rediscover this ancient wisdom.

Kalarigram is a traditional Kalaripayattu training centre in close proximity to Auroville Township in Tamil Nadu. Established in 2010, this centre has been training students in Kalaripayattu, Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda. Shri Ramesan Lakshman Gurukkal, whose life mission is to preserve this ancient martial art form, hails from a traditional Kalaripayattu family based out of Kozhikode, Kerala. His father, Shri Veerasree Sami Gurukkal, had set up Hindustan Kalari Sangam in 1952, at Puthiyara, in Kozhikode. Kalarigram is the brainchild of Shri Lakshman Gurukkal who decided to establish a centre in Tamil Nadu in order to spread awareness of this martial art form.
