On Friday, 11th October 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit India for his second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since they had met in China’s Wuhan in April last year.
The summit is being held in the historic city of Mamallapuram on Friday in an attempt to reconfigure ties between two of the world’s biggest powers amidst major disagreements on certain issues between India and China.
President Xi’s visit comes after the two sides exchanged sharp words over Kashmir following Xi’s meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan two days ago. In a statement after the meeting, China said it was “paying close attention to the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir” and it “opposes any unilateral actions that complicate the situation”.
During the informal talks, the issue of terrorism and its funding, trade and border issues are likely to be key discussed between two leaders. No statement or joint communique will be issued by both sides after the visit as it is an informal and unstructured meet.
The importance of choosing Mamallapuram for Modi-Jinping summit:
The two-day informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mamallapuram, 56 km from Chennai, gives impetus to the cultural and trade link that once existed in the ancient era between the heritage coastal town and China around 1,600 years ago.
Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, had ancient trade links between the Pallava kings and China. The seventh-century heritage town, which was a vibrant port city, had served as a gateway for imports and exports to China and South Asia. It was also part of China’s Silk Route.
Mahabalipuram was established by Narasimhavarman I of the Pallava dynasty in the seventh century AD. It was established as a seaport town by the Pallava king to carry out merchandise trade with other parts of the world. The city is named after Pallava king Narasimhavarman, who was hailed as “Mamallan” for his excellence in warfare and hence, the seaport town was named Mamallapuram.
According to historians, the Pallavas had sent their envoys to China as they had a good relationship with Chinese rulers. The China-Pallava dynasty relationship included an understanding of the defence ties. Narasimhavarman II had offered help to the Chinese rulers to take on the Arabs and Tibetans.
Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang went around the Pallava kingdom of Narasimhavarman I and lauded the people’s valour, conduct, and excellence in education. The rich cultural linkages of Mamallapuram’s relations with China makes it best suited for hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping for an informal summit.
The visit:
President Xi Jinping will commence his visit to India today. He will reach Chennai around 2 PM on Friday. He will then proceed to Mahabalipuram, where he will be joined by PM Modi. PM Modi is expected to show him around three of the site’s ancient monuments – Arjuna’s Penance, Panch Rathas and the Shore Temple.
President Xi Jinping is expected to travel along the scenic East Coast Road to reach Mamallapuram and would return to Chennai later in the night. Later, the two leaders will also watch a cultural programme at the magnificent Shore temple.
On Saturday morning, the two leaders will hold their informal meet at the Taj Fisherman’s Cove Resort & Spa, which will be followed by delegation-level talks. PM Modi will also host President Xi for dinner and lunch.
In India, Durga Puja is celebrated with much fanfare. From nine days of fasting to nine nights of dancing and celebrating the divine to mark the victory of good over evil, the Navratri is a festival close to all.
While the Hindus celebrated the divinity, some Muslims were busy perpetrating violence on the devotees and desecrating their faith. In this article, we will highlight how in just two days, eight incidents of violence, stone-pelting on procession as well as breaking of idols of Maa Durga. Not only that, pieces of meat were also thrown on the route of the procession. Many devotees fast during the nine days of Navratri and give up on consumption of meat and alcohol.
In a video that had gone viral on social media, a Durga Puja procession can be seen getting attacked by heavy stone-pelting. The police had confirmed that eight people were arrested so far. A devotee who was part of the procession alleged conspiracy and claimed the stone-pelters chanted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans.
Speaking to OpIndia, Suraj, a Balrampur resident part of the procession, said he was convinced that the Muslim residents of the locality had meticulously pre-planned this entire siege and the attack had nothing to do with the music not being stopped near the Mosque.
According to Suraj, on the day the Hindus came under siege, he was walking through the same lane much before the procession was taken out. Suraj was walking through the same lane and was crossing house where a certain Zulfikar stays. According to him, while he crossed the house in the morning, Zulfikar threw a stone at him. This ensued in a mild argument which was then calmed down by Zulfikar’s old mother who asked Suraj to forgive the ‘young boys’ who were just doing mischief.
Suraj on his part paid heed to what Zulfikar’s mother was saying and did not make much of the incident. He proceeded home to prepare for the visarjan procession that was to be taken out later that day. “If I had told my people about this, maybe we would not have come under attack later. This was all pre-planned”, Suraj said. When the mother pleaded with Suraj to let go of the incident, he thought it must have been really been young boys were simply playing mischief, but the doubts were sowed. In retrospect, Suraj seems to believe that the incident was the first indication that the Muslim community was planning to attack the Hindu community and had started collecting stones and weapons in a pre-planned manner.
In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, tensions escalated when meat pieces were found thrown on the procession route
According to reports, meat pieces were found thrown strategically on the route of Durga idol immersion procession which led to escalated tensions. An FIR has been registered against unknown people. Reportedly, 3 different visarjan processions were en route when people spotted meat pieces on the side of the road.
Idol broken in a temple in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, on the last day of Navratri, some miscreants broke the idol in a Shiv temple. This led to communal tension but matters were brought under control. Local residents informed the police the idols were intact when they offered their prayers the previous night but were broken the next morning.
In Assam, one Rafikul Ali put up a tilak on his forehead and set Goddess Lakshmi’s idol on fire, stole ornaments
One Rafikul Ali allegedly broke into a Goddess Lakshmi temple in Assam’s Barpeta and set the idol inside the temple on fire. He also reportedly stole the ornaments on the idol and also tore up the posters which informed about the upcoming Lakshmi Puja celebrations. Ali has previously been accused of bullying and harassing school, college students in the vicinity as well.
Durga idol vandalised in Arunachal Pradesh, 3 arrested
In Arunachal Pradesh’s Doimukh Bazaar’s Durga Puja pandal, the idols were broken. Three suspects have been arrested till now. The police, however, claim that the the reason behind the vandalisation was personal dispute and there was no communal angle behind it. Some social media users have claimed that the perpetrators belonged to the Christian community.
Durga idol broken and head ‘stolen’ in Bengal along with ornaments
In Wet Bengal’s Ketugram, devotees found that the idol of Maa Durga was broken and the head ‘stolen’ along with the ornaments. The ‘head’ was then found from a lake nearby. One suspect has been arrested. Villagers claim that the door of the temple was closed in the night but they found one of the windows open in the morning.
Stones pelted on Durga Visarjan procession in Gaya when passing by Jama Masjid, police beat up the devotees in pandal
On Tuesday night, during Durga Visarjan on Vijaya Dashami, stones were reportedly pelted on the procession as well as on the police when it reached the Jama Masjid area. As per reports, the police, while trying to control the crowd, used force and expletives, following which the devotees got angry. In a video that has gone viral on social media, one can see the police roughing up a devotee as it indulged in beating up people indiscriminately.
Stones pelted from mosque during Durga idol immersion in Jehanabad, 14 people injured
A Muslim mob attacked a Durga idol procession in Jehanabad district in Bihar on Thursday. The horrific attack on Hindus led to a curfew-like situation leading to the imposition of section 144 in the area. According to the reports, around 6 am on Thursday, a group of Hindus carrying an idol of Goddess Durga for immersion were attacked by a mob, which pelted stones from terrace and rooftops of mosque with stones near Bihar Studio at Arval Modh. The sudden attack led to a stampede in which around a dozen people, including four policemen, were injured.
The body of a priest who had gone missing on the Navami of the Durga puja was found from a pond in Bagdevi in Nadia, West Bengal. The body of Supriyo Banerjee, a purohit (priest) of a local temple by profession, was discovered in the early hours of Thursday. He was also a worker of the BJP.
Supriyo Banerjee, a Hindu priest & BJP worker from Nadia was brutally murdered. 8 people have now been murdered in just the last 4 days. Law & order in West Bengal is a sad joke now.
Why are the so called liberals mute spectators of these gruesome murders?
In a tweet posted by West Bengal BJP, the party claimed that it is the 8th murder of persons associated with the party in just the last 4 days in the state.
45 years old Banerjee was a resident of Bagdevi Tala under Shantipur Police station in Nadia district. According to reports, he had gone missing while returning home after completing the Navami rituals of the Durga Puja on Monday night. When his family members started searching for the next day, his scooter was found in the nearby village Laxminathpur. After talking to locals in the village, Banerjee’s relatives came to know that Supriyo Banerjee had verbal arguments with some people on Monday night.
After this, the family members lodged a missing complaint at the police station. But they allege that police took no action despite being told about the verbal spat the temple purohit had on the night he had gone missing.
On Thursday morning, the body of the priest was found in a pond in his village. When police personnel from Shantipur police station came to retrieve the body, locals prevented them, demanding that the body should be moved without bringing sniffer dogs. Later the body was retrieved from the pond, but people in the area continued their protest demanding immediate arrest of perpetrators and an investigation using police dogs.
Police have detained 3 persons for questioning in regard to the case. Police have also revealed that Banerjee had withdrawn a large amount of money from his bank account just before Durga Puja, and is probing whether the murder is linked with that money.
While Pakistan continues to hail the success of its operation Zarb-e-Azb in weeding out Pakistani Taliban from its tribal region, according to a report by Kunwar Khuldune Shahid in The Diplomat, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is all set to rear its head back again. The dreaded TTP group, which had been behind the dastardly massacre of children in Peshawar in 2014 is ready to spread its ominous claws once again.
In the wake of Operation Zarb-e-Azb carried out by Pakistani Army in 2014, the TTP had largely faded from the Pakistani landscape until recently when it appears that it has found its feet again as it issued a written threat to locals in Miranshah demanding a ban on music, women going out without a male accomplice, and polio vaccinations.
Shahid claims renewed activity of the terror group citing various examples of TTP terrorists nabbed from different cities of Pakistan recently. The re-emergence of the terror group, known for brutal imposition of medieval practices, especially with regards to women and children has already made its presence known by targeting checkpoints with IED blasts.
An ominous message sent by Pakistani Taliban as quoted by Shahid says, “We want to remind you that our diktats have been disregarded by residents in the past, but this time we are going to take to task those who violate the Taliban order.”
The Talibani decree also proscribed the use of DJs inside or outside houses and threatened the residents with dire consequences if they are found violating the edicts put forth by the TTP.
Even the health workers administering polio drops to children are not spared by the TTP. The TTP warned the health workers not to administer polio drops to children in the region. This doesn’t bode well for Pakistan which has witnessed a recrudesce of the poliovirus, with at least 72 people being diagnosed with the infectious disease this year.
Despite the Pakistani military’s highly acclaimed action against TTP, far from being defunct, the TTP appears to have gained strength from its convalescing period and prepared to take on their nemesis. Shahid claims that the TTP’s revival can be credited to the regional resentment against the military that has been personified by the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement(PTM) which has brought to fore military excesses such as forced disappearance, human rights violations etc.
The PTM has been channelising the resentment against the Pakistani government, highlighting the incongruencies and questioning the government’s objectives in their fight against terrorism. While Imran Khan claimed that the permanent solution to Afghan-Taliban problem is fencing of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, PTM questioned the government’s intention behind the claim as recently Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was seen warming up to Afghan Talibani while exchanging hugs and gifts with each other.
The United Kingdom representatives of the Indian National Congress party (INC) met with Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labour party, and “discussed the human rights situation in Kashmir.” True to its heritage as a political entity that was established by the British to entrench their power in India, the Congress party appears to be undermining Indian national interests abroad.
A very productive meeting with UK representatives from the Indian Congress Party where we discussed the human rights situation in Kashmir.
There must be a de-escalation and an end to the cycle of violence and fear which has plagued the region for so long. pic.twitter.com/wn8DXLohJT
From the manner in which the tweet was worded by Corbyn and the conduct of other politicians of the Labour party, it appears quite obvious that the Labour politician hinted at his pro-Kashmiri separatist stance, which boils down to support for Islamic Jihad. That Congress party decided to associate itself with Corbyn, a politician with an extremely problematic history only proves that the fools march where angels fear to tread.
The UK branch of the Congress party has now come out and said that the meeting was held “to condemn the Kashmir resolution passed by his Party & to reiterate that J&K is an internal matter & outside intervention will not be accepted.” However, that’s not the impression one gets from reading Corbyn’s tweet.
Our meeting with @jeremycorbyn was held to condemn the Kashmir resolution passed by his Party & to reiterate that J&K is an internal matter & outside intervention will not be accepted. @BJP4India‘s malicious statements are another attempt to distract people from their failures.
As a politician, Corbyn has an extremely chequered past. During the course of his life, Corbyn has backed the Irish Republican Army (IRA) which committed a series of acts of terrorism in its pursuit of freeing Ireland from Britain. Corbyn was the general secretary of the editorial board of the far-left journal Labour Briefing that supported IRA violence and explicitly backed the Brighton Hotel Bombing, which killed 5 people and maimed 31 others.
In 2015, on BBC Radio Ulster, Corbyn refused five times to specifically condemn IRA violence and terrorism. He hung up rather than answer the question. According to Leo McKinstry, a British historian and a journalist, writing for The Telegraph, Corbyn “is the man who sympathised with violent Irish Republicanism in the 1980s, invited IRA representatives to the Commons a fortnight after the Brighton bombing in 1984 and, at a Troops Out meeting in 1987, stood for a minute’s silence to “honour” eight IRA terrorists killed in an SAS ambush.”
Corbyn also has a reputation of being an antisemite. Corbyn once described a book as “brilliant” and “very controversial” that spoke of European finance was controlled by “men of a single and peculiar race”, that is, the Jews. The book, Imperialism: A Study, written by John Atkinson Hobson in 1902, describes the financial system as controlled by people “united by the strongest bonds of organisation, always in closest and quickest touch with one another, situated in the very heart of the business capital of every state, controlled, so far as Europe is concerned, by men of a single and peculiar race, who have behind them many centuries of financial experience, they are in a unique position to control the policy of nations”.
The book also said that journalism and banking were dominated by Jews. The Board of Deputies of British Jews demanded a full explanation for Corbyn’s words and expressed “grave concerns” over what it called “pure and unequivocal racism and there can be no apology for it”.
Not merely that, Corbyn received payments upto £20,000 (about $27,000) for appearances on the Iranian state broadcast network Press TV, a channel that participated in the filming of the tortured-forced confession of Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari. He appeared on the channel five times between 2009-12.
Corbyn has also lent his support to Raed Salah, a rabid Islamist with a morbid hatred for Jews. Salah once spread the ‘Blood Libel’ against Jews, the antisemitic slur that Jews use the blood of gentile children to make their bread. Not merely that, he was charged with inciting racial hatred and violence and claimed that Jews were behind 9/11. Corbyn said of him: ‘Salah is a very honoured citizen’, ‘Salah’s is a voice that must be heard’, ‘Salah is far from a dangerous man’, and ‘I look forward to giving you tea on the terrace because you deserve it!’.
In the past, Corbyn has referred to Hamas, radical Islamic terrorists, as ‘friends’, a statement which he later said he regretted but vowed that he would not stop talking with them. In return, Corbyn received a ringing endorsement and a “salute” from Hamas. “We have received with great respect and appreciation the solidarity message sent by the British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to the participants in the mass rally,” Hamas said in a statement.
Under Corbyn’s leadership, the Labour party has been accused of a series of allegations of antisemitism, allegations it has struggled to refute. Corbyn’s personal conduct over the years has led people to consider that he has a soft spot for Radical Islam. This isn’t surprising considering the fact that there’s a global alliance between the Left and Radical Islam.
The Labour party in its entirety has taken an anti-India stand on Kashmir. The party has recently passed a unanimous motion on Kashmir at their conference in Brighton on September 25. The motion stated that Kashmir should be given the right of self-determination as per UN resolutions and urges the Labour party to ‘stand with Kashmiris fighting against occupation’.
Not merely that, Labour MP Liam Byrne was at the forefront of a March led by Pakistani mobs that vandalized the Indian High Commission in London. Byrne had previously vigorously supported the Pakistani stand on Kashmir, owing to his largely Muslim constituency.
Thus, we have the UK representatives of the Congress party meeting with a politician with a history of antisemitism, supporting violent terrorists such as the IRA who has an obvious soft spot for Radical Islamic terrorists such as the Hamas who he once referred to as ‘friends’. Moreover, his party which is grappling with rampant antisemitism in its ranks has once again taken the side of Radical Islamic terrorists on Kashmir.
The UK branch of the Congress party might claim that the purpose of the meeting was to get the Corbyn to disassociate his party from the anti-India rhetoric on Kashmir but Corbyn’s tweet on the matter made it pretty clear in which way the winds are blowing. And it’s pertinent to mention here that not even Congress sympathizers are buying what UK Congress is selling.
In yet another act of stone-pelting targeting Hindus, a Muslim mob attacked a Durga idol procession in Jehanabad district in Bihar on Thursday.
The stone-pelting incident in Jehanabad is similar to the one that occurred in Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh recently in which members of the Muslim community had reportedly preplanned the stone-pelting and had stored the stones to target the Goddess Durga procession.
Reportedly, the violence took place when some people allegedly pelted stones at a Durga idol immersion procession. In the meantime, hundreds of people angry over the incident gathered at different places, demanding strict action against the perpetrators of the attack. There were some reports suggesting that there have been few fire incidents in the area.
The incident has led to people suffering from serious injuries. More than 14 people, including 4 cops have got injured in the pelting incident, while eight of the injured have been admitted to the Sadar Hospital.
The police officials have urged people not to pay attention to rumours. The administration officials visited the spot to take stock of the situation. Anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed in the area. In a bid to maintain law and order situation, police personnel from the neighbouring areas have also been called in.
Jehanabad District Magistrate Navin Kumar while speaking to OpIndia confirmed that the situation is under control and prohibitory orders are in place to avoid any incident.
The world celebrates Mental Health Day every year on the 10th of October. While mental health has been the focus of much attention in recent times, the time has come for us to address the elephant in the room: The Mental Health Professionals. While the overwhelming majority of people in the profession are well-meaning individuals who have the best interests of their patients at heart, something has gone terribly wrong with the profession. And it has been the case for some time now.
Recently, Charlie Evans, a person who was born female but identified as male for nearly 10 years before detransitioning, came out and said that there were ‘hundreds of transgenders’ who regretted undergoing the gender reassignment surgery. “I’m in communication with 19 and 20-year-olds who have had full gender reassignment surgery who wish they hadn’t, and their dysphoria hasn’t been relieved, they don’t feel better for it,” she said. “They don’t know what their options are now.”
Speaking of a transgender woman who had approached her following one of her talks, Evans said, “She said she felt shunned by the LGBT community for being a traitor. So I felt I had to do something.” Evans has now decided to launch a charity called The Detransition Advocacy Network.
Another woman called Ruby, who decided to stop being transgender after eight years of taking cross-sex hormones, told Sky News, “I didn’t feel like there was any support out there, other than like a few friends online.” “For everyone who has gender dysphoria, whether they are trans or not, I want there to be more options for us because I think there is a system of saying, ‘Okay here’s your hormones, here’s your surgery, off you go’. I don’t think that’s helpful for anyone,” she said.
The problem has reached epidemic levels in the West. In the United Kingdom alone, there has been a 4500% increase in girls seeking gender reassignment surgeries. Brown University tried to repress a study by one of its professors which concluded that “Rapid-onset gender dysphoria” among teens and young adults may be a social contagion. Things have reached a point where concerned individuals have opened a website ‘sexchangeregret.com‘ which, as the name suggests, highlights the plight of people who underwent a sex change surgery but later came to regret their decision.
There has to be some form of accountability for the people who created this mess. Most importantly, the community of mental health professionals cannot be trusted to tackle the issue since they created it in the first place. Compare the intense and severe scrutiny that a new drug is subjected to and the callous attitude with which sex reassignment surgeries and transitioning were approved by the community of mental health professionals. It does tantamount to a crime against humanity.
Worse is the fact that the transgender lobby has gained immense power and the entirety of the corporate class supports the transgender agenda in order to increase their revenues. People’s mental health has become a tool at the hands of corporate interests to increase their profit margins. The only people who stand to gain from it is the pharmaceutical industry and the corporate class at large. It is perfectly conceivable that the surgeries might be good for a very specific set of individuals but for the people suffering from gender dysphoria at large, the entire culture that has developed around transgenderism is an utter catastrophe.
The commercialization of mental health to generate more profits is not limited to transgenderism alone and there can possibly be no better day to talk about this uncomfortable subject than Mental Health Day. Madeleine Kearns, reporting for The Spectator, elaborated on how very easy it was to be diagnosed with ADHD and get access to performance-enhancing drugs. She says in her report, “But the overdiagnosis and overmedication of ADHD — attention deficit hyperactivity disorder — is no joke. Rather, it is a ‘national disaster of dangerous proportions’. Those are the words of eminent American psychologist Dr Keith Conners, who speaks to us from the grave.”
Kearns continues, “…But in the 1990s, the combined effect of loosening the diagnostic criteria (so that exuberance, eccentricity and the ordinary struggles of day-to-day life were all potentially pathological) and allowing American drug companies to have another go at marketing amphetamines (which had been curtailed by regulation in the 1970s) created a perfect storm of supply and demand.”
She adds, “At the last count, there were approximately six million under-18s diagnosed with ADHD and 16 million ADHD prescriptions for adults under 40 in the US. And the student population has become a full-blown (albeit secondary) market for these drugs.”
In Norway, there is a massive scandal that’s going unreported and it is important to talk about this on Mental Health Day. The Norwegian Child Protection Agency, Barnevernet, is indulging in what can only be called state-sanctioned kidnapping of children. They are robbing parents of their children with the help of psychologists and psychiatrists on the flimsiest of reasons. Numerous psychologists and psychiatrists have spoken out against the Barnevernet but it remains a fact that mental health professions are enforcing this policy.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-PzrwliUk4]
One case of a Czech family led to a massive diplomatic row between the two countries which ended up in the Czech administration accusing the Norwegian regime of behaving like Nazis. The “lack of parenting skills” and not substance abuse is the most common reason given to shift a child away from its parents into emergency care. In one particular instance, the Barnevernet claimed that lack of eye contact, and other signs, from a four-month-old baby, revealed that she was suffering from severe psychological harm and ought to be taken away from her parents.
We are constantly lectured by the community of mental health professionals that a lack of awareness is the primary reason behind the worsening mental health situation across societies. While that is true, it is also a fact that the current crop of mental health professionals isn’t a solution to the mess. From the events that are unfolding in the West, we can safely argue that in many instances, the professionals are adding to the problem, not solving them.
There is an urgent need for the community of mental health professionals to reform itself. Although the situation in India is nowhere near as bad as in the West, it is a fact that the Indians tend to buy into the prevailing dogmas of their Western counterparts without giving any of it any significant thought. On Mental Health Day, the greatest service that the community of Mental Health Professionals can provide to people suffering from mental health issues is honest introspection about the conduct of people from their own community and reevaluating the dominant dogmas of the fraternity.
It’s been over two months since the deeply undemocratic and exclusionary Article 370 was abrogated from Kashmir by the Indian government on 6th of August. Pakistan has tried every brick and trick from the book of propaganda from ranting & raving, craving & begging to jabbing & fawning, to construct a case of Indian ‘brutality’ and ‘authoritarianism’ in Kashmir. But everything utterly failed in attracting or consolidating even the Islamic nations – who Pakistan boasts of as its fierce allies bound by religion – let alone the rest of the world. Despite Pakistan’s sweating extra-hour hard work, the international order refused to criticise India or its tectonic shift in the Kashmir. Pakistan lit up a subtle fire, fuelled by the kerosene drops of co-religionism and banal propagandas, and tried to cook dishes for its domestic politics as well as Kashmir policies. The fire, though, backfired burning both the dish and the cook. Instead of drawing global support, it bullwhipped its own position to weakness.
The laws of political-diplomatic forces work in complete contrast to the laws of magnetic forces as in politics similar interests attract each other while opposite interests repel. In the great game of diplomacy – where unwritten rules are more significant than those are written – for consolidation or attraction of global forces – similar interests must be present. Despite instilling and inducing powerful charges, Pakistan failed to attract the world order on the sole grounds of absence of interest. Contrary to attracting, Pakistan’s existing allied forces have started flowing away from it like the water of Indus. And without the presence of any mutual geopolitical or strategic interest stopping this erosion or repulsion would be like stopping the flow of Indus with a soup bowl. It has now reached a situation where, except for Turkey and China, no major global player is keen on stopping by Pakistan’s ideological gate.
What has thrown Pakistan into this deep well of troubles is its own paranoia. The condition of loss of interest in Pakistan for most of the nations of the world was aided and most of the time created by the attitude, character and ideals of none other than the Pakistan itself. No amount of manipulation, sugar coating or covering can change the fact that Pakistan has no one other to blame than itself for its free fall of significance.
The hypocrisy of the highest order deeply embedded in the fundamental structure has intensively affected the claims of Pakistan on the global stage. The entire process of Pakistan championing itself as the human rights saviour has been processed as nothing more than fallacy, ersatz and banality. And the world has reasons to process such. Prime reason being the Pakistani ignorance or deliberate veiling of series of human rights violations within its parameters. The Baloch persecution, Pashtun suppression and Gilgit-Baltistan marginalisation are the results of Pakistan’s inhuman conducts. There are horrific stories of how Pakistani establishment has destroyed lives of millions. A military with expertise in usage of tactics as extrajudicial killings, abduction, forced conversions, mass murders and rape and a nation – whose establishment is the culprit behind gross human rights abuses of its own people – staging itself as a human rights champion would only disclose the real hideous face behind its all fancy portrayal.
The supposed fourth pillar of democracy: media has been reduced to a mere puppet of the establishment in Pakistan. From quantity to quality and from content to concept almost every part of media coverage is a product under state control in Pakistan. At a time when other countries compete for media freedom, Pakistan’s media has been crawling to get even to the basics of freedom. Their media has been under house arrest for years now subjecting to intense state scrutiny. Pakistani Pashtuns’ PTM – a political non-violent movement against Pashtun oppression – has been completely blacked out by the Pakistani media on orders of its military. Not only PTM but also everything related to Balochistan’s freedom struggle has also been censored – again at the orders of the military. At the helm of such strict restrictions and censorships, the government of Pakistan has the audacity to present itself as a media freedom haven. The possibility of the world accepting that presentation is, of course, of the lowest.
Fundamentalism and nationalism one more flawed arrow often shot at India by Pakistan is another reason, more indirectly and less directly, behind the fall of the credibility of Pakistani claims. When Pakistan’s prime minister shot a bunch of preposterous accusations, masqueraded as analysis of the situation, after the article 370 abrogation, the world took no time in showing him the mirror. His attempt at portraying India as an ornery state only ended up him getting reminded of his country’s unconditional addiction to desuetude and religious fundamentalism. There’s absolutely no room for a nation like Pakistan – who has, for its all life, been dependent on extremism – to preach India on nationalism and jingoism. Ignorant of his own country’s ideals and history, Imran Khan criticising India was an indicator of Pakistan’s schizophrenic attitude. And excepting the world to deal with a schizophrenic nation would be an extremely rich expectation.
The authoritarianism of the Pakistani military in almost every prospect of national life in Pakistan is the most probably one of the biggest factors degrading the importance and value of Pakistan at the international stage. Often, we have seen global leaders expressing their frustration and concern over the balance of power in Pakistan. Almost no country in the world, except for China, understands the real power centre of Pakistan that is the military. From deciding who the prime-time news anchor of a news channel should be to who the prime minister should be, the military is the ultimate decision-making body in Pakistan. A democracy of only label, Pakistan throughout history has always been an advanced military dictatorship with excellent art of indirect control.
Both terrorists and ‘selected’ prime ministers are under military’s control and authority. An apt cartoon depicting balance of power in Pakistan by cartoonist Manjul
The military is also the Chief Terrorising Force of the country. Getting the crown of the most frightening institution in a country clogged to its mouth with terrorist organisations is a serious deal. And Pakistan’s armed forces have, unremittingly, been at its best in furthering its agenda of violence and destruction. Specialised in terrorising its own people, the Pakistan military has a history of mass human rights violations and genocides. Pakistan’s military is the mind flayer behind every terrorist outfit and its each terror Demogorgon. But surprisingly the ‘upside-down realm’ of this mind flayer is not beneath the earth but right up on the surface of the same country it belongs to.
Pakistan, in its all senses, had accused India of majoritarianism on repeated occasions. Being true to its founding father’s fear-mongering populistic doctrine, Pakistan has repeatedly shot its attempt at brushing India as a majoritarian state. When in reality, India has repeatedly proven itself, over the centuries, to be the most tolerant nation and India’s majority has proven itself as the most cosmopolitan one. Being in the realm of realism and true to history, it is the state of Pakistan which has always been majoritarian. The ethnic Punjabi majoritarianism over Pashtuns, Balochs and Sindhis; the sectarian Sunni majoritarianism over minority Shia and Ahmadiyas; ultimate the religious Islamic majoritarianism over extreme minority Hindu, Sikh and Christian religions; are a testimony to the fact. Whenever Pakistan accuses India of majoritarianism or discrimination against minorities, it defies the moral and ethical laws of the world order.
Despite so many, by default, defects in the system of Pakistan, undoubtedly the biggest one is terrorism. Home to dozens of terrorist organisations and hundreds of UN-designated terrorists, a safe haven to all kinds – sectarian, religious and ethnic – of extremism, Pakistan is a serious threat to the world peace and integrity. Always stuck in the dream of invading India, Pakistan has for years relied on waging a proxy war against India through its most reliable force – terrorists. Terrorists are state fostered aggressive force created, trained and provided with all essentials in Pakistan for waging an asymmetrical religious war against India. There is hardly any nation in the world which does not concur with the fact that Pakistan is a terror state. Creating trouble in Kashmir through its force of terrorists and shedding crocodile tears at India’s counter aggression is an unsurprisingly common sight that we have seen multiple times over the years. Expecting the world to respect Pakistan, when it has consistently fostered terrorism at every possible place it could, is like expecting the water to burn for you.
The force behind free fall of Pakistani significance and value at the international stage are the embedded hypocrisy; deliberately induced human rights violations; its addiction to fundamentalism and religious, sectarian and ethnic majoritarianism; freedom suppression, censorship and authoritarianism; military dictatorship and reliance on and usage of cross border terrorism. The fact that Pakistan and its PM accuses India of all these shows its schizophrenic behaviour and attitude, with which no one would love to deal with. The reason behind this repulsion of world towards Pakistan is – unambiguously – the paranoia of Pakistan.
The Gujarat High Court while rejecting tainted ex-cop Sanjiv Bhatt’s suspension of sentence plea observed that he has ‘made a deliberate attempt to mislead the court and he was guilty of suppressio veri and suggestio falsi (suppression of truth and suggestion of falsehood).’ The court also observed that Bhatt had ‘scant regard for the truth’. The order [pdf], which was passed on 25th September by Justice Bela Trivedi, was made public on Monday, October 7.
“At this juncture, the Court, after having considered the evidence on record as well as the findings recorded by the Sessions Court, is prima facie satisfied about the conviction of the applicant under Section 302 of IPC, and in absence of any exceptional case made out by the applicant, the present application does not deserve any further consideration. The application for suspension of sentence, therefore, is dismissed.” the order read.
1989 custodial death case
The case stems from the custodial death of one Prabhudas Vaishnani in Gujarat’s Jamnagar in 1989 when Bhatt was serving in the district as additional superintendent of police. According to the prosecution, Bhatt had detained more than a hundred persons during a communal riot in Jamnagar, Gujarat and one of the detainees, Prabhudas Vaishnani had died in hospital after he was released.
Sanjiv Bhatt is currently lodged in the Palanpur district jail and has been awarded life imprisonment sentence by the court in a custodial death case.
Other cases
Last year in September, the sacked ex-IPS officer, Sanjiv Bhatt was taken into custody by the Gujarat CID over a 1998 case of planting drugs. Despite repeated attempts by the tainted officer’s lawyers and family, Bhatt was denied bail after the Palampur court took cognisance of his criminal past, behaviour and false statements. Afterwards, he had reportedly approached the high court for the same. The Gujarat government had then vehemently opposed Bhatt’s bail application.
The Palanpur Drug planting case pertains to an incident in 1998 when Sanjiv Bhatt was serving as the DCP of Banaskantha. He was then accused of trying framing a lawyer in a fake narcotics case.
The anti-Modi cop is also well known for his legal fight against the Gujarat government and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi, who had served as the former chief minister of Gujarat, was accused by Bhatt of being complicit in the murder of Muslims during the 2002 Godhra case. However, the SIT set up by the apex court then had given Modi a clean chit.
