Pakistani analyst says BJP doesn’t want a Muslim to break record in World Cup after India rested Shami against Sri Lanka

In a Pakistani news channel, one of the analysts claimed that India rested Shami for Sri Lanka match on the ruling party BJP’s order as he doesn’t want a Muslim to break records in World Cup.

Shami has taken 14 wickets (including a hat-trick) in 4 games he has played for India in this World Cup. Shami is the second highest wicket-taker for India despite playing four games less.

One of the analysts could be heard saying, since Shami has taken 12-13 wickets in the tournament, why was he suddenly made to rest? Especially since he was moving towards a record. He may have reached top two or three. “I can’t understand. They seem to be under pressure to make Shami rest since they brought him here but don’t want him to play,” says one analyst. Another analyst could be heard saying, “I think America made him sit.” The first analyst then chimes in, “I think it is the BJP agenda. That do not let Muslims play. I wouldn’t be surprised. This is the thing in ‘Breaking India’.”

This is not the first time Pakistani analyst or player brought religion in sports. Earlier in the tournament after the fights between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Imad Wasim said that both Afghanistani and Pakistani fans should not fight as they are Muslim brothers.

Shoaib Malik has also been brought religion a few times while playing cricket. In 2017 during the Champions Trophy, in answer to a fan’s question who is the best Indian bowler, Shoaib said “The best bowler in the Indian team is Mohammed Shami. Not because he’s a Muslim guy. I’ve seen his bowling, played against him also. For me, I find him tough. That’s why.”

In 2007, as the Pakistani captain after losing the final of World T20 to India, Shoaib Malik said: “I want to thank everyone back home in Pakistan and Muslims all over the world. Thank you very much, and I’m sorry that we didn’t win, but we did give our 100 percent.”

Kerala: Priest arrested for sexually abusing minors in boy’s home in Kochi

A 40-year-old Catholic priest, identified as George alias Jerry was arrested on Saturday night after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault the children staying at a boys’ home. He was arrested on a complaint lodged by the parents of the children who ran away from the home in Perumbadom in Kochi, Kerala.

The priest who headed the boy’s home, which provided shelter and education for children from poor families, had been sexually abusing the inmates since December 2018, confirmed the police.

The incident came to the fore when some boys called their parents from a phone with the help of a person whom they met on a street Saturday night, after fleeing from the boys’ home in Perumbadom, PTI reported.

George alias Jerry has been remanded to 14-days police custody after police registered a case against him under sections 377 of the Indian Penal Code, and other relevant sections of POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act.

There has been a long and disconcerting history of sexual exploitations, rape, child abuse and harassment spread throughout the churches of India and its associated institutions.

In February 2019, we reported how Father Robin Vadakkumchery of the Mananthavady diocese who was accused of raping and impregnating 16-year old girl two years ago had been convicted by Thalassery POCSO court. Father Vadakkumchery, who had been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 3 lakh fine by the court, was the prime accused in the rape case.

The rape survivor used to study at a school where the convict was a teacher. The girl had accused him of raping her several times in 2016. She delivered a baby at the Christu Raj Hospital which is run by the church in Thokkilangadi, Kannur, on February 7, 2017. It was revealed during the investigation that a network of Christian institutions was protecting the accused by covering up the crime to save their own face.

In a similar case, a special Mahila Court in Cuddalore in January 2019, delivered an important judgement sentencing a church priest to 30 years in prison and nine others to life in prison for their involvement in the horrifying 2014 Tittakudi rape case, which involved two minor girls.

The horrific rape occurrences at Churches are turning out be a grave issue in the country. Recently, Franco Mulakkal, a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar, was arrested and released on bail later for allegedly raping a 44-year old nun at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014. Similarly, Father Johnson V Mathew, a priest of Malankara Orthodox church accused in the rape and sexual abuse of a married woman belonging to the fold was arrested in July.

“When a mob shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ and we were ready to drink poison if they came for us”

Hauz Qazi in the heart of Delhi suffered communal tensions and temple desecration. Media except for OpIndia, Swarajya, Organiser and Sudarshan TV, blacked it out till SM pressure forced it to report, albeit in a spun and whitewashed manner.

News of rioting mobs in Meerut, news of families migrating from Prahladnagar revived memories of riots in Meerut.

I grew up in Meerut, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, 80 km away from Delhi. In the 70’s-80’s life in a small west-UP town was predictable, with annual Hindu-Muslim riots being something one grew up with. The riots always happened in another strata, away from the placid existence of middle class, in the narrow winding alleys of the old town.

We always knew riots were sponsored and the horrors bypassed us. Hindus and Muslims existed in many layers in Meerut: the middle class, upper middle class. Hindus and Muslims had deep friendships, fostered over generations. The unspoken code was if a Hindu got caught in a riot in a Muslim friend’s home in a Muslim majority locality, the Hindu would remain safe, to be bought out after situation calmed down and vice versa.

My grandmother subscribed to an Urdu newspaper. It was a sign of social sophistication to know sher-o-shyri. Tailors of Hindu households were Muslims, whose expertise at making churidaars and shararas was unsurpassed. The winding alleys in the Muslim-dominated areas were an alien universe to us.

The female residents disgorging themselves out on the weekly Monday pent (street market) wearing burkhas, which were not a common sight in Meerut middle class/upper middle class Muslims. Other than occasion when the residents of the mysterious other world came out was during Muharram processions, life went on in parallel streams.

In 86-87 all this suddenly took a different turn. Riots became violent, more intense and spread into middle class neighbourhoods.

It was early morning in Shastri Nagar, a hindu majority middle class colony. On an early morning in the summer of 1987, far away slogans of Allahu Akbar suddenly filled the air and dark black cloud of smoke appeared on the horizon. Before we could know what the matter was, suddenly lots of neighbours living on the outskirts of Shastri Nagar (a Hindu majority colony) next to Hapur Road (a Muslim majority area) began running in on foot, on scooters, on cycles. They said a muslim mob had attacked them and they were throwing burning tyres into their homes. They also said a petrol pump had been burnt on Hapur road.

We climbed up on the roof and could see a mob approaching the main road, throwing burning tyres and chanting Allahu Akbar. I remember my father, a frail committed communist, picking up hockeysticks and waking my pre-teen brother to get ready to protect the colony.

Early morning milkmen were coming in cycles from nearby villages. When they saw the mob they rushed back and returned with desi katta (guns) and started confronting the mob with slogans of Har Har Mahadev.

The MP of Meerut was Mohsina Kidwai of Congress. My grandmother was a Congress worker. We rang her residence from the lone phone in our neighbourhood, but she was in Delhi and no one was there to help us. One uncle rushed to the police chowki on the much treasured Bajaj, but was informed there was no police force available since all had been sent to Delhi to deal with a farmers’ rally. Only a few policemen were there with lathis.

Suddenly we realised we were helpless, unprotected and only had ourselves. We had no weapons except hockeysticks, lathis, kitchen knives. The villagers meanwhile had routed the mob .The colony was new, with open fields all around and the mobs would attack from different fronts, from an area called Zaidi farms, but were mercifully kept at bay by the katta wielding villagers.

I can never forget the feeling of terror and utter helplessness and the feeling of betrayal. Rajiv Gandhi was the PM. He was a youth icon. How was this happening? Where was the police? Where was the MP? Why were we left undefended?

This continued for weeks. Curfew was imposed. It was the month of Ramzan. Whole night the men of the house would take turns at keeping watch. The residents of the outer areas came to live with us. Till late night women would huddle up in the park and then all would be sleeping in a few designated safe houses on the roof.

We had planned to drink rat poison if our colony got overrun. We collected bricks and kept them on the roof to throw in case we were attacked. The nights were scary with ears straining to hear any sounds of mobs attacking. A few attempts were foiled by the police and our own watch parties .

Pre dawn, drums would beat at a nearby mosque. Then slogans would be broadcast on the loudspeaker. Pakistan zindabad would be followed by threats of violence. We would be told that instead of bakras Hindus will be given in Qurbani. Then news that the muslims had destroyed the Chandi temple (false) would be announced. Then they would also announce the Hindu areas they had attacked and how many they had killed. The broadcasts would fill us with dread, even though later police would debunk these rumors.

A couple of Muslim families in our area were safe. We knew they were not a part of this mindset. But then another troubling event occurred. Absolute strangers came to our colonies and asked about muslim households and warned us against protecting them. The police escorted the Muslim families in the dark of the night outside Meerut to their relatives, while we all distributed their furniture in our homes for safe keeping. The strangers came the next day but police told them the muslim families had left before the riots and showed them empty homes.

Finally the PAC was deployed in Meerut. They were heroes for us. After they were deployed the mosque fell silent. The neighbourhood watches ceased. And we all began sleeping in our own homes.

The strangers disappeared and the muslim families came back.

With our old friends there was no bitterness. We knew we did not subscribe to this madness. And they knew they were safe in our colony.

India Today magazine’s edition was published the riots. I expected that our riots would be covered.

My first betrayal with media began then. There was no coverage of Hindu areas. Only Maliyana and PAC excesses. For us PAC was god send, but for media something else. Normalcy returned. Our Muslim dhobi and ironing guy who lived in area from where the mob came told us strangers had formed the mob .

This was the last major riot Meerut saw. But troubling questions remain.

Who were part of the mob? How were Pakistan Zindabad slogans aired from mosques? Why was there no police force? Why was it sent to Delhi? Who were the strangers who came hunting for muslim families in hindu colonies?

When I see daily news of temple vandalisation and Muslim mobs on streets, my memories from Meerut, 80 km from Delhi, come back from the time we suffered the terror in 1987.

Come 2019, heart of Delhi suffers this.

Who is to be blamed? Vote bank politics?

The sense of betrayal remains. So must be with the Hindu families in in Hauz Qazi, Meerut, Agra, Muzzafarnagar, Haryana, Surat, West Bengal and other such places where there is sizeable Muslim population and where mobs are coming out on streets now. Why are these mobs attacking? Is the police helpless? What is the story behind these suddenly daily incidents?

Narendra Modi is in power now. I invest my hope in him to rid India from such days and nights of terror.

Maharashtra: Engineers to go on pen down strike to protest attack on a deputy engineer by Congress MLA Nitesh Rane

In an extremely shameful incident, Congress MLA Nitesh Narayan Rane and his supporters were caught on camera throwing mud on engineer Prakash Shedekar at a bridge near Mumbai-Goa Highway in Kankavali on July 4.

Now, thousands of engineers across the State are planning to go on a ‘pen down’ strike on Monday to protest the attack on the deputy engineer. The Maharashtra Abhiyantriki Seva Mahasangh (MASS), an umbrella body of working engineers in the State, has written to Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Public Works Department (PWD), Manoj Kumar Saunik, informing him of the strike, according to reports.

A ‘pen down strike’ is analogous to a slowdown. It is a labour action in which employees come to work but do not mark attendance and do not take up any work. The term connotes that this takes place in an office setting as opposed to an industrial setting.

In a video that went viral on social media, Rane, a Member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Kankavli Assembly constituency, was seen assaulting Shedekar while a man standing behind Shedekar brings a basket full of mud and throws the mud on him. Shedekar was then pushed against the wall of the bridge and Rane’s supporters were seen trying to tie him to the bridge.

Following the outrage, the Congress MLA, who is the son of former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Rajya Sabha MP Narayan Rane, along with 16 of his supporters were arrested.

The MLA and his supporters were booked under IPC sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 342 (wrongful confinement and 120-b (criminal conspiracy), and were sent for 4 days judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Narayan Rane had in the same breath apologised on behalf of his son and also justified the protest. “While Nitesh was staging a protest, some karyakartas threw muck at the civic officials. I apologize on behalf of them as throwing muck, hitting officials is wrong. But the highway has been kept shut for many days which has affected the nearby market, making people’s lives difficult due to which Nitish was protesting. But the incident which happened in the protest is wrong,” he said.

Recently, BJP had sent a show cause notice to Akash Vijayvargiya, son of BJP veteran Kailash Vijayvargiya, over the assault of an Indore civic official with a cricket bat. The Prime Minister had strongly condemned the incident saying arrogance and misbehaviour cannot be tolerated.

According to sources, PM Narendra Modi gave out a strong message in a Parliamentary meeting saying “Whoever it may be, whoever’s son he may be… such arrogance, misbehaviour cannot be tolerated”.

Manmaani nahi chalegi“, he said in Hindi, meaning one cannot get away doing whatever he or she wishes.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also sought a report after the BJP MLA was arrested for thrashing a municipal official in Indore with a cricket bat.

Comedy of Errors: Congress mouthpiece confuses one Pakistani journalist for another one who confused Apple Inc with the fruit

Congress mouthpiece, National Herald, confused Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat for another Pakistani TV anchor who had recently confused Apple Inc with the fruit. Confused? Let us break it down for you.

Congress mouthpiece National Herald published a report about the Pakistani journalist who confused the tech giant Apple Inc for the fruit apple during a conversation.

The video became viral when Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat shared the same. However, National Herald while publishing the same said that the journalist who was confused over apples was Inayat. While in reality, she was merely sharing the video.

To their credit, National Herald did manage to get it right that it was Naila herself who had posted the video on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Naila Inayat tweeted that she definitely wasn’t the one who confused Apple Inc for the fruit.

Twitterati didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at the Congress mouthpiece.

In the video that went viral yesterday, the TV anchor could be seen talking to a panellist about Apple Inc. She embarrassed herself by confusing it with the fruit before the panellist could correct her.

Recently, Pakistan made itself an object of ridicule, when, during the live streaming of the press conference of the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the cat filter got accidentally turned on, making the faces of the people look like cats.

Earlier another video went viral where a Pakistan news channel picked up the word ‘abhinandan’ from a speech delivered by PM Modi and came to the conclusion that he was talking about Wing Commander Abhinandan.

The Congress mouthpiece National Herald has its own controversial past. Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are facing criminal proceedings in the income tax case relating to National Herald.

Rajasthan: Man vandalizes the statue of Maharana Pratap, Kshatriya samaj gives ultimatum of seven days to replace statue

On Friday afternoon, a man climbed up the statue of Maharana Pratap at the busy Maharana Pratap circle in Banswada, Rajasthan and damaged the javelin. The man who was carrying the lathi, left everyone shocked with his act.

The man climbed up screaming and managed to damage the statue. Some passer-bys tried to stop him immediately but he intimated them with the lathi that he was carrying. However, before he could vandalize the statue further, some people successfully managed to pull him down and hand him over to the Kotwali.

As the video of the incident was circulated around, people expressed their anguish. Soon, activists of Rajput Karni Sena gathered and registered protest. They demanded SP Tejaswini Gautam take strict action against the culprit. They also urged the administration to replace the desecrated statue with a new one. Erstwhile royal Jagmal Singh, President of Rajput Samaj Rajendra Singh Anandapuri and  others also participated in the gathering.

The Kshatriya samaj has demanded that the statue be replaced within seven days or they will carry out protests.

A case of damaging the public property has been filed against the miscreant, who was sent for a medical test. He first claimed to be a resident of Sagar and later Gangasagar. The police alleged at first instance the culprit appeared to be mentally ill.

Anandapuri, fearing a conspiracy, urged the administration to investigate the matter deeply.

The Congress government in Rajasthan has been on the receiving end of flak for downplaying the valour of Maharana Pratap. Recently, it was reported that the state government will change school syllabus to change that in the Haldighati battle, Maharana Pratap did not win the battle. State education minister Govind Singh Dotasara had reportedly said that it was not necessary to know who won the battle. Earlier, the BJP had put in the syllabus that the Haldighati battle which was fought between Maharana Pratap and Mughal emperor Akbar, Akbar was defeated.

Tensions escalate as a boy brutally stabbed during the protests in Ranchi against alleged lynching of Tabrez Ansari held by Muslim groups

Protest meetings carried out by a group of Muslim organisations under the banner of Muttahida Muslima Mahaz (MMM) yesterday in Ranchi, Jharkhand against the alleged lynching of Tabrez Ansari in Saraikela district of the state turned violent resulting in mounting tension in the area. The protestors reportedly vandalised a bus of Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) at Rajendra Chowk creating panic among the passengers.

According to reports, a boy named Vivek Srivastava was brutally stabbed by the mob protestors and another one was beaten up in the night around 10 pm when the two boys were passing by on a bike. Injured Vivek was admitted to Medica Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Opindia talked to Sub-Inspector (SI) Gopal Prasad Singh from Daily Bazaar police station who confirmed the report of the boy being stabbed and the other being beaten up. SI Singh told that the Muslim protestors took out a procession in the night around 10 pm after the protest meeting that was organised at Urs ground at Doranda in the day. He said that the protestors blocked the road near the Iqra Masjid area during the procession and created a ruckus by damaging public property. The situation was brought under control after police intervention.

According to reports, no prior permission was taken from the SDO by the protestors before organising the protest gathering and then taking out the procession. The Hindu reported that three Muslim boys were thrashed and forced to chant the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by a group of people in the airport area. A complaint this has been lodged at Doranda police station.

MMM convenor Maulana Obedulla Kasmi said that their protest was not targeted at a particular caste or religion and actually it was against those elements who are trying to spread hatred through crime like mob lynchings. The Muslim organisations have prepared a charter of seven demands too present before the government.

Congress’ resignation saga continues: Jyotiraditya Scindia resigns as AICC General Secretary

Jyotiraditya Scindia today resigned as All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary taking responsibility of the poll debacle. “Accepting the people’s verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as General Secretary of AICC to Rahul Gandhi. I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party,” he said.

Congress leaders are on a resignation spree. Indian Youth Congress Chief, Keshav Chand Yadav, too resigned on Saturday, taking “full responsibility” of the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

In a letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi, Keshav Chand Yadav wrote, “I joined politics after being inspired by your vision for development and welfare of India. It is just because of your revolutionary step to inculcate one of the finest democratic process in Indian Youth Congress that a common man like me could make a stand in politics. Sir, as you are well aware that I toiled from being a social worker to block level party worker and presently the national president of IYC.”

He added, “But now after giving a serious thought on the current political scenario and to stand by your fight and cause, I do hereby take the full responsibility of the 2019 electoral defeat and tender my resignation from my current post. I have always been and will continue to serve the party as a dedicated and responsible worker of Congress.”

Keshav Chand Yadav belongs to the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, who was appointed the Youth Congress chief in May last year. He had been the national general secretary of Indian Youth Congress and was the in charge of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier expressed his angst over Congress leaders being nonchalant with the poll rout and not owning up the responsibility of the loss.

Ending the month-long drama, the Congress prince had on July 3, publicly announced his resignation from the post, sticking to his decision. He posted a self-contradictory, four-page letter on Twitter reiterating his decision to step down from the post of Congress president and also taking responsibility for the election results.

What happens if it rains in semi-final or final of the Cricket World Cup 2019

Finally, after 45 games it has been decided which are the two teams placed at number one and number two in the points table of Cricket World Cup 2019. India will play New Zealand at Old Trafford on Tuesday while Australia will take on arch-rivals England at Edgbaston on Thursday.

The ICC has one reserve day for both the semi-finals and the final. In case there is no cricket over two days in the semis, then the fate of the two teams will be decided on their position in the league stage.

The rules for semi-finals are pretty simple and easy in case of a tie or wash out.

In the case of rain, there are reserve days for both the semi-finals and the final.

Let’s talk about semis first, in the case of a tie; there is super overrule which will decide the fate of the match. However, in case of no play on either day (due to bad weather), the team with more points will qualify for the finals. In case of rain interruption, the match will not restart on the next day; it will continue from the same position it was stopped.

India v New Zealand

In case of rain on both days, and no play possible, India will reach the Finals because India has 15 points while New Zealand has just 11.

Weather condition: It is predicted to be a wet afternoon on Tuesday at Manchester. Chances of showers expected with a lot of interruption during the match, and maybe it could end in 2 days. The second day too will have some patches of rain.

Australia v England

In case of rain on both days, and no play possible, Australia will reach the Finals because Australia has 14 points while England has 12 in the points table.

Weather Condition: Slight drizzle is predicted at Birmingham on Thursday and Friday, but the conditions over there will be not as adverse as it will be in Manchester. The match will over in 2 days but will as of now no chance of a washout.

It depends on weather conditions, and the Super Over will take place on the scheduled day of the match (or reserve day if it is utilized for the semis or final).

In normal circumstances, it shall start 10 minutes after the conclusion of the match. Each team will be allowed to have one review during the Super Over.

FINALS

If both the days are washed out, then the two teams will share the trophy. If it ends in a tie, then there will be a super over to decide the winner.

Five more teenagers involved in Hauz Qazi temple desecration arrested, admit to vandalism, pelting stones at temple

Five more teenagers including four juveniles have been arrested in the Hauz Qazi Durga temple desecration case in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, taking the total number of arrests to 17. As per the Times of India report, they have admitted to vandalising the temple to the Police.

During the interrogation, the youths have admitted that they were called by one of the accused caught by the police earlier. Upon being asked by others, they also pelted stones at the temple. Reportedly, they even broke down the shutter at the entrance of the temple. They even entered houses of some of the residents to terrorise them.

The suspects were identified on basis of the videos by some of the residents. As per the report, the police has given strict warnings not to shield the suspects.

As reported earlier, on the night of June 30, 2019, a mob entered Durga Mata Mandir, Lal Kuan in Chandni Chowk had vandalized the idols inside. The locals had posted videos of the temple on social media that showed the Muslim mob entering the temple and thrashing Hindus residents of the neighbourhood.

According to reports, a minor tussle over parking intensified and later snowballed into a stone pelting attack. Later that night, the mob barged into the temple with an intention to desecrate it leading to communal tensions.

Dr Harshvardhan, Union Minister and MP from Chandni Chowk had visited the area to take stock of the situation. While condemning the incident, he had directed the police to take strict action against the culprits.

Yesterday, several Hindu activists had pledged to ‘reclaim civilisation’, while one activist, Aviral Sharma had announced on Twitter that the group would be reciting Hanuman Chalisa at the vandalized Durga temple. However, Aviral was allegedly detained by the local police station and was pressurized to cancel the event.

He was later released and was then joined by more than 300 activists and local residents at the temple, where chants of Jai Shree Ram reverberated through the lanes.
