A Bench comprising CJI Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipin Pancholi took sou motu cognisance of the Malda incident after being alerted by the Calcutta High Court CJI. The apex court came down heavily on the West Bengal government and the Malda district administration.
The TMC goon was heard saying, "No votes should go to waste this year. I am telling this clearly. We will note who is casting their votes from each house."

A three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated on Wednesday, “We have received a letter from the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice on Tuesday. We are happy about the facts and figures given…. Out of 60 lakh, 47 lakh objections have been decided till last evening. By April 7, all objections will be decided.”
The High Court said that the petitioners could not establish that the ECI's orders were used in an arbitrary manner and resulted in an injury to a public interest.
An Indian Express ground investigation revealed that most of these varsities depend on guest faculty working at the UGC-mandated rate of Rs 500 per class.
