8 Democrats officially reached out to India's ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, to ask for the release of Umar Khalid on bail, alleging that the authorities have unjustly incarcerated him. The group included rabid anti-India Islamist Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Pramila Jayapal, Ayanna Pressley, Jim McGovern, Jamie Raskin, Chris Van Hollen and Peter Welch.
Notably, during his election campaign, Mamdani had called Trump "despot" and a "fascist", a favourite jibe of the Left politicians and the Leftist media to target all conservatives.
Mahmood Mamdani, a Ugandan scholar, author and political theorist of Indian origin. Known in the Islamo-leftist ideological circles as an outspoken intellectual and scholar having expertise on decolonisation-related studies, there is more to him. In his pursuit of criticising Western interventions, colonialism and deconstructing power structures, Mahmood Mamdani humanised terrorists and suicide bombers.
On 5th October 2025, Mamdani visited two of the oldest Hindu temples in New York’s Flushing, the Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapathy Temple and the Hindu Temple Society of North America. Visuals of him receiving a warm welcome at the temple wearing garland and scarf surfaced online. The people around him were seen holding placards reading “Hindus for Zohran for New York City”.
In a letter dated August 26, addressed to Dr. S. Jaishankar, the signatories urged India to take a firm stand against what they described as Mamdani’s “Hinduphobic lies” and defamatory remarks about PM Modi and India.
