Congress duped farmers in the name of loan waiver, Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Nath giving contradictory statements: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Congress had, as a reaction to Chouhan's claims, sent documents to him, containing details of farmers whose loans have been waived off by Congress-led government in the state. Shivraj Singh Chouhan calls it an eyewash.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had accused the Congress of blatantly lying and deceiving the poor farmers of Madhya Pradesh. In a press conference held in Bhopal on Monday, Chouhan claimed that both Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath have given contradictory statements on the matter of loan waiver to farmers in the state.

Congress had, as a reaction to Chouhan’s claims, sent documents to him, containing details of farmers whose loans have been waived off by Congress-led government in the state.

Calling it an eyewash, Chouhan said that Kamal Nath government has provided him with only the documents of the agricultural department and not bank statements. He asserted that the loans are given out by the banks, so to ascertain the truth, bank statements should have been provided by the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. Shiraj Singh Chouhan perceives this is a mere plot to mislead the farmers.

A Congress delegation led by former Union Minister and Congress leader Suresh Pachouri on Tuesday reached the official residence of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with documents containing details of farmers whose loans have been waived off by Congress-led government in the state.

He said the government needed a fund of Rs 48,000 crore for loan waiver but its budget is only Rs 5,000 crore. The banks were merely given Rs 1,300 crore. He alleged that farmers were duped in the name of loan waiver.

Reading out a message from CM Kamal Nath to a farmer named Mahesh Kumar Dhakad, Chouhan alleged that “both Rahul Gandhi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath have given contradictory statements on the matter of loan waiver to farmers in the state. While the former is saying that the loans of farmers were waived within two hours of forming a Congress government in the state, the latter has sent messages to lakhs of farmers on their mobiles stating that though the application for waiving loans have been received it cannot be granted as Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Lok Sabha elections is in place.”

Chouhan furthered that when beneficiaries identified under Pradhan Mantri Samman Nidhi Ayojna can be benefited why cannot the loan waiver schemes be implemented. Accusing Congress President Rahul Gandhi of deceiving the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, the senior BJP leader and former MP chief minister said that the Congress chief is lying on the issue of loan waiver of farmers.

Chouhan stressed that the Rahul had promised to waive off the loan within 10 days of coming to power but the party has failed to keep its promise even after 120 days. He furthered that Rahul Gandhi had before the MP assembly election made big promises of waving off all the farmers loans, now he is backtracking by applying conditions to the loan waiver schemes.

He said that the farmers are in fact being sent notices for repayment of loans. This is extremely deceitful as the Congress government had emphasised on wavering loans of poor farmers of Madhya Pradesh in their party manifesto.

Loan waiver schemes promised by Congress is a major sham. Congress has been lying to the farmers. The farmers who have a small loan amount have received notification that their loan has been waived off, but, according to Chouhan, the loan waiver amount has not yet been credited to their respective bank accounts.

He urges Congress to satisfy the poor farmers instead for trying to convince him by sending across incomplete documents of proof to his office.
