Ahmedabad: Congress MLA’s speeding car kills man, he claims it was his driver behind the wheels

The MLA, who remained unreachable for the media until the next morning, later informed that his driver Devendra Bhavsar aka Lalabhai was behind the wheels.

A 47-year-old man was killed after Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar’s speeding car knocked down his scooter on Monday night on the road near the Gokul Row House area in Memnagar, Ahmedabad West.

The victim Prafulbhai Patel, who was on his way to bring his son back from tuition classes was riding his Honda Activa when the four-wheeler which was at a suspected speed of over 100 km/hr hit the scooter from behind. The victim died on the spot of serious head and body injuries.

The car was registered in the name of Parmar, who represents Danilimda(SC) constituency in the city.

On hearing about the incident, traffic police ‘A’ division police inspector, PB Khambhla, arrived with his officials and sent the body of the victim to the hospital for post mortem.

While family members of the deceased alleged that Parmar’s son was driving the car, the police and the MLA, who remained unreachable for the media until the next morning, later informed that his driver Devendra Bhavsar aka Lalabhai was behind the wheels.

The Congress MLA further told the police, who had reached the MLAs house to take his statement almost 15 hours after the incident took place, that both, his Innova car which was involved in the accident and his driver were missing after the mishap.

“I got to know about the accident nearly an hour-and-a-half after it took place last night. I spoke to the deceased’s family later on phone and assured them of my full support,” Parmar said.

“I will help police in the investigation. It was our driver, Dharmesh Bhavsar, who was behind the wheels,” he added.

Police have said that preliminary investigations have revealed that Bhavsar was driving the car and was alone in the vehicle when the accident took place, adding that the CCTV footage from the area of crime was being analysed.
