Days after the brutal, targeted attack on the Meherpur ISKCON Temple by Islamists in Bangladesh, it has come to the fore that the Hindu community people or the temple priests stuck in the temple during the attack ended up jumping into the water well to save their lives.
As per the exclusive video footage from TV9, the Islamists who attacked the temple on 5th August burned the Hindu scriptures, vandalized the Hindu idols, and forced the Hindu devotees and priests to run for their lives. Amid the chaos, those who could not escape from the temple during the attack escaped the rioters by jumping into the well.
Around 16-17 people are believed to have jumped into the well on 5th August. Later all the Hindus who jumped into the well were taken out using a rope by the others around the temple. The video report of TV9 is making rounds on social media which Meherpur ISKCON Temple’s spokesperson Sumohan Mukunda Das is seen showing the sites where the Islamists burned the Hindu scripture and also the posters of Hindu Gods.

On 5th August, the ISKCON mandir in Meherpur was attacked, vandalized, and looted. 1 Kali temple and 2 Durga temples were looted and vandalized. More than 10 Hindu houses and 8/9 Hindu-owned shops were looted and burnt. 2 Hindu girls were kidnapped.
Later, Meherpur ISKCON Temple’s spokesperson Sumohan Mukunda Das shared the horrific details of the prevailing situation. “They targeted our ISKCON Temple and vandalized it. A bomb was also hurled inside the temple. For the whole night, we had to hide in the jungle as when we sought refuge in someone’s house they said that if we allowed you in, they [the Islamists] would burn our house also. From 1971 to 2024, Hindus have always been tortured,” Das said.
Hindus in Bangladesh are facing constant attacks at the hands of Islamists after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in the country. Islamists have left no stone unturned to target Hindu homes, businesses, and temples.
