Hours after Manmohan Singh passed away, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Thursday (26th December) sought to exploit the death of the former Prime Minister for political vendetta.
In a tweet, she alleged that the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi somehow maligned the reputation of Manmohan Singh. She claimed that words of grief expressed by BJP leaders are somehow reflective of ‘hypocrisy.’
Priyanka Chaturvedi brazened out, “This cabinet led by the PM may have words to express their grief on the passing of Dr MMS but their words and action against him will never be forgotten- the vilification, the shameful charges, the character assassination and the hounding of a great man.”

Rest what they say…
“Rest what they say tomorrow will be mere hypocrisy. History will judge them for their conduct for sure,” she concluded.
While Priyanka Chaturvedi turned a mourning moment of the nation into a political battlefield, it soon became clear that the Shiv Sena UBT leader had conveniently forgotten the remarks of her party leader about Manmohan Singh.
In 2012, Uddhav Thackeray had mocked the former Prime Minister as a ‘wax statue.’
On the issue of inflation, he had infamously said, “We are seeing that from the past 7-8 years, there is not much of a difference between him (Manmohan Singh) and a wax statue.”
A year later, Uddhav Thackeray denigrated the former Prime Minister as a ‘hijda’ (eunuch).
“Thackeray referred to a recent conversation he had with the people of Pune, where he asked them what they felt about the current ruling party. To this they allegedly responded, Uddhav told the rally, by saying that PM Singh was an ineffectual leader and a hijda (eunuch),” a 2013 report by DNA stated.
In 2017, the Shiv Sena UBT chief claimed, “I don’t think the country ever had such a weak Prime Minister.” He also commented that Manmohan Singh did not get respect even from his own party.
Late Shiv Sena leader and the party’s founder Bal Thackeray had even referred to Manmohan Singh as ‘politically impotent.’
