Mumbai: 16 illegal Bangladeshis arrested, fake documents seized, police crackdown on illegals continues

Reportedly, a 14-member team led by DCP Dr. Pravin Mundhe raided Kalamboli, Panvel, Kopar Khairane, Kalyan, Mumbra (Navi Mumbai), and Shivdi Darukhana, Mankhurd, and Chembur (Mumbai) and arrested 16 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. All these accused persons have been booked by the police.

On Saturday, 8th February, the Mumbai Police intensified its crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, arresting 16 persons from the Thane region. The arrested illegal Bangladeshi individuals included seven men and nine women. A team led by DCP Dr. Pravin Mundhe (Zone 1) conducted a crackdown operation against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and the Thane area.

This arrest came a day after Mumbai’s RCF police arrested 7 Bangladeshi immigrants from Mumbai’s Chembur area.

The Mumbai police has recently intensified its crackdown against the Bangladeshi immigrants staying illegally in Maharashtra’s various districts including Pune, Mumbai, Nanded, Thane, Nashik, etc. Several of these illegal immigrants manage to create fake identities and fake Indian documents. It has also been observed that these take illegal advantage of the government schemes.

OpIndia has reported several times in the past how these Bangladeshi immigrants illegally enter the country and fabricate Aadhar cards, birth certificates, Indian passports, and other documents claiming permanent residency. It has also been observed that these people settled in the Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Virar, and Nalasopara regions and participated in the voting processes.

The state police in the past few months have launched several operations to identify and arrest illegal immigrants. Last year, Borivali police arrested around 20 Bangladeshis for illegally entering India and using fake identities. Several similar arrests have also been made in Pune district. Recently, the Mumbai Police formed special task forces to identify and arrest illegal immigrants from areas around Mumbai.

On February 6th, the Nashik Police arrested 8 individuals from a construction site in the city. The raids by the police were carried out based on a tip. The police found out that these persons had illegally entered the nation and that they did not have any valid documents that could prove their identity.

In the given case, the fake documents possessed by the accused persons have been recovered by the police. FIR has also been filed under the Foreigners Act, 1946; Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950; and Passport Act, 1967. Further investigations are underway.
