Revamped Ayodhya railway station to feature modern amenities along with traditional Hindu aesthetics

Refurbished platforms, new signboards, escalators, lifts, and murals of Lord Ram painted on walls–these and many more would be the features of the Ayodhya railway station after the ongoing revamp.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the revamped Ayodhya railway station later this week.

Tourists pouring into the temple town ahead of the grand consecration of the Ram Temple on January 22 are stopping at the railway station, marvelling at the ongoing revamp work which is aimed at giving it the look and feel of a temple.

Prime Minister Modi will touch down at the temple town on December 30–ahead of the consecration ceremony next month.

Purshottam, a tourist from Delhi, said the revamped railway station, while being equipped with new-age amenities for the benefit of passengers and visitors, will also have echoes and influences of Hindu mythology in its overall appearance.

“We are here for the first time. It seems we have arrived at an airport and not a railway station. This station not only has modern amenities but also a touch of Hindu mythology,” he told ANI.

Ramnarayan Das Ji Maharaj, a visiting seer in Ayodhya, too, said the revamped and remodelled railway station has the wherewithal to extend top-class services to passengers and visitors.

“It looks gorgeous with a new design. Lord Ram, too, wished for the station to be revamped so well that devotees don’t run into any problems visiting the grand temple for the consecration ceremony,” he said.

Swami Sai Prasad Saraswati, a visiting seer from Thiruvananthapuram, said, “Ayodhya is beautiful and people are arriving in the city in droves ahead of the consecration ceremony.”

The redevelopment is being carried out in two phases. While the first phase, which is near-finishing, will see the development of the platform areas, the second will see the construction of the new station building equipped with more lavatories, dormitories, ticketing and circulating areas, among others.

The district magistrate of Ayodhya, Nitish Kumar, said the railway station has a circulation capacity of about 50,000-60,000 people and work on the second phase will commence soon.

“We are carrying out the revamp of the railway station in a manner as to make it resemble the facade of Ram Temple. It would also reflect the historical significance of Ayodhya. While it would resemble a temple from the outside, it would be equipped with the latest technology for the ease of passengers. It already has a circulation capacity of 50,000-60,000 people and we are only into Phase 1 of the project. Work in the second phase will begin soon,” he told ANI.

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee repeats VP Dhankar’s mimicry, says ‘will do it a thousand times’

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, whose mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar sparked outrage, mocked VP Dhankhar again on Sunday (24th December) and said he will continue to do so, describing it as an “art form.” MP Banerjee stated that he would do it a thousand times and that it was his fundamental right.

“I will keep doing the mimicry. It is an art form. If needed, I will do it a thousand times. I have all the fundamental rights to express my views. You can put me in jail. I will not step back,” Kalyan Banerjee said.

The TMC MP also said that VP Dhankhar is upset over a “trivial issue”, while speaking at an event in West Bengal’s Shrirampur.

Last week, outside the parliament, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was seen impersonating Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Congress’s Rahul Gandhi could be seen making video of the incident. Later, the Jat community staged a protest against the TMC MP and Rahul Gandhi and demanded an apology from the duo. 

Later, Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a statement saying that any insult to Parliament or the position of vice president would be unacceptable. He expressed his deep distress over a TMC MP impersonating him in the parliament complex and a Congress MP filming the act.

TMC MP again mimicked Dhankar saying that it was his fundamental right. Responding to the event, the BJP said that no one is jailed for being uncultured but in the court of the people, the party and ‘ghamandiya’ alliance will be punished.

“No one is jailed for being uncultured. Backed by Mamata Banerjee, arrogance is at its peak in TMC. If they mock a constitutional post, if they mock a farmer’s son, if they mock someone coming from a backward caste, they will not be jailed but the people will never forgive them… This ‘ghamandiya’ alliance can’t accept the popularity of the Modi government.” Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.

Following the mimicry incident, a complaint was filed against Kalyan Banerjee at a national capital police station. The complaint was forwarded to the city’s Defence Colony Police station by an advocate named Abhishek Gautam, according to South Delhi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

A video purporting to be from Uttar Pradesh has been going viral on social media since Monday (18th December). Some women are seen lying injured on the ground in this video, and some others can be seen screaming all around.

Several leftist and Islamist handles shared the video with the claim that a wall collapsed and an accident occurred at a wedding in UP due to the DJ’s excessive volume.

Shahwaz Anjum, who describes himself as a journalist and social activist, shared this 27-second video and wrote, “Due to the loud sound of the DJ at the wedding, the wall collapsed and this accident happened.” In the video shared by Anjum, some women are seen injured while many others can be heard screaming. It is also said that some people have lost their lives in the incident.

One of the users who identifies himself as Vikram, who regularly posts anti-Hindu content, has also shared the video. “Wall collapsed due to high volume DJ playing at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh. Many people were hurt. DJ should be prohibited throughout the country. This is extremely risky,” he wrote. 

Vandana Sonkar, a supporter of ‘Bhim Army’ leader Chandrashekhar ‘Raavan,’ also shared the video. “DJ was being played at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh, which caused the decibel to be too high and the wall to collapse. Women were severely injured as a result of this,” she wrote. 

The same was shared by one Riyaz Khan. “The video is from Uttar Pradesh. DJ was played at the wedding and due to high decibels the wall collapsed. Many women have suffered serious injuries due to this. DJ at weddings, DJ in Jagrata, these people play DJs everywhere. Because of these people, heart disease patients die or suffer,” he said. (The tweet has now been deleted).

Tasavvar Hasan and Ghiyasuddin are responsible for the deaths of women and children

OpIndia investigated the matter to learn that this incident happened in the Ghosi police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district. The accident happened around 3 p.m. on 8th December 2023 when some of the women of Ghosi were walking through the street singing auspicious songs to perform Balendu Gupta’s Haldi ceremony. Tasavvar Hasan’s house then is said to have collapsed on the women as they passed by the street. In this tragic accident, four women and two children were killed, and approximately twenty others were left injured.

The deceased women have been identified as Chanda Devi, Poonam Sharma, Madhav, Pooja, Meera, and Sushila Devi. The police complaint in this case was lodged by Rakesh Kumar Pandey, clerk of Ghosi Nagar Panchayat. In the complaint, he said that Ghiyasuddin had kept gravel near the dilapidated wall of Tasavvar Hasan. Due to the obstruction of the road, Ghiyasuddin and Tasavwar were repeatedly asked to remove the same but they showed negligence.

Tasavvar also ignored repeated orders from local authorities to build the dilapidated wall. According to the FIR, Tasavvar and Ghiyasuddin’s negligence was to blame for the deaths in the accident.

The two accused named in the FIR have been charged under sections 304 and 268 of the IPC. Both of the accused have been arrested and imprisoned. Meanwhile, Ghiyasuddin and Tasavvar Hasan’s bail application has been denied by Sessions Judge Rameshwar, according to the latest news. OpIndia has obtained a copy of the FIR.

Shahnawaz Alam arrested in Delhi in Pune ISIS module case has links with Maharashtra ISIS module mastermind Saquib Nachan: Report

An exclusive report by the Free Press Journal has exposed the common links that connect the ISIS modules across cities revealing a sinisted web of pan-India ISIS network.

The report reveals that Shahnawaz Alam, who was arrested in October in the Pune ISIS module case, is also linked to Maharashtra ISIS module mastermind Saquib Nachan.

Saquib was arrested by the NIA on 9th December. Meanwhile, Saquib’s son Shamil Nachan was also arrested in the Pune ISIS module case in August, months before Shahnawaz’s arrest.

Shahnawaz had managed to escape from the custody of the Pune Police back in July this year. Citing a confidential report by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), FPJ has revealed that the Pune Police, Maharashtra ATS and the NIA had dismantled the ISIS Maharashtra module in July arresting mastermind Imran Khan and others.

After escaping, Shahnawaz’s ISIS handler put him in touch with a person called ISI Akka (leader) and fugitive terrorist Ghori. Shahnawaz, along with ISIS terrorist Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf, reached New Delhi where a hideout was arranged for them by a local unidentified contact.

Notably, Shahnawaz was sheltered in Delhi by Mohammad Arshad Warsi, who was also part of the Pune ISIS module and whose name had featured in the Delhi anti-Hindu Riots chargesheets. Warsi was constantly in touch with Sharjeel Imam. It was based on information revealed by Warsi during his interrogation that the Delhi Police managed to locate and arrest Shahnawaz.

Mohammad Rizwan was conducting his terror activities in Uttar Pradesh’s Naini, Prayagraj and Lucknow before moving to Delhi. Shahnawaz, Rizwan and Arshad were all arrested by the Delhi Police in October.

Shahnawaz and Rizwan were tasked with a critical mission for a terror operation in Delhi/NCR. This Delhi-based contact arranged logistical support, procuring weapons, arms and ammunition and provided funds for the task.

Shahnawaz and Rizwan were arrested by the Delhi Police special cell before they could implement their terror operation in the national capital. However, the local contact in Delhi is on the run.

This contact person is suspected to be the same individual who traveled from Delhi to Padgha, near Thane, to meet Saquib Nachan on the instructions of the ISIS handler.

This meeting was to discuss plans for an ISIS terror operation that Saquib was reportedly planning to execute. Shahnawaz’s statement reportedly suggests that he was connected to other ISIS terror modules including one run by Nachan and their associates.

Moreover, the report also talks about a nexus between ISIS, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and fugitive terrorist Farahtullah Ghori.

Shahnawaz and Rizwan reportedly worked on instructions from a foreign-based ISIS handler, conspiring with ISI and Ghori to conduct terror activities in the national capital region.

As per FPJ, probe agencies suspect that ISI and other terror organisations are currently orchestrating activities in India. It reveals that the foreign-based handlers may potentially be Pakistan-based ISI agents or terrorists.

Ghori is a key member of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist groups. He also leads the terrorist organisation Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (HUT). Ghori has been evading authorities by operating through a chat group on the dark web.

Ghori had resurfaced in 2022 with a series of audio-visual messages and on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Facebook and Telegram alarming the Indian security agencies.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has lambasted the state’s ruling DMK over their lame excuses for the hateful statements given by their MP Dayanidhi Maran.

In a post on X, K Annamalai wrote, “The only response from DMK to this video of DMK MP’s slander of our friends in UP & Bihar is that this video is old. How does it change while DMK, a party built on divisive principles, continues to use such language even today? “

He further stated, “Recently, on the floor of the Parliament, a DMK MP called Northern states Gaumutra States; what has changed in DMK? The Dimwits in DMK IT wing continue to use this language even today and are encouraged by a Minister who is spearheading these abusers.”

Annamalai was highlighting the habit of DMK leaders to issue hateful, divisive, and derogatory statements against the people, language, and culture of Northern India. He also shared a 2020 tweet from DMK minister TRB Raja, where he was using derogatory language for people from Bihar.

During the current winter session in the parliament, DMK MP Senthil Kumar had spoken like the Pulwama terrorist when he stated that the BJP could win in only the ‘Gaumutra states’. He used the term to describe the Hindi heartland states.

K Annamalai’s statement comes after the rapid excuses spree by DMK leaders and supporters on social media after a video of Dayanidhi Maran went viral recently.

In the video clip, Maran said, “Hindi-speaking people are cleaning toilets and roads for us”.

DMK’s open hatred against North Indians, Hindi-speaking people, and even Hindus in general

DMK leaders are not new to displaying their hatred against North Indians, Hindi-speaking people, and Hindus in general.

Earlier this year, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin went on a tirade against Sanatan Dharma on social media. On September 2, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu said, “Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated. The same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, my appreciation to you all for giving an apt title to the meeting.” 

The general premise of Dravidian politics is to spread hatred against North Indians, Hindi speakers, and Sanatana Dharma, as the DMK ministers have often done.

DMK, and Md Zubair from Alt News come up with bizarre excuses against hate speech

It is notable here that after the video of Dayanidhi Maran went viral, several DMK leaders, and Md Zubair from Alt News have tried to come up with bizarre excuses to ‘fact check’ the clip. Their only excuse was the said video clip was not recent but ‘old’. It is not understood how hate speech becomes ok if it is old, or what the exact number of months and weeks after which a hateful sentence targeting a specific community or state stops becoming hateful.

It is notable here that while the DMK, Congress, and some other Opposition parties are trying hard to present the I.N.D.I.Alliance as a united alliance representing pan-India parties united against the BJP, the DMK’s hateful politics that has been prevalent in Tamil Nadu for decades is coming back again and again to haunt the alliance.

Udaynidhi Stalin’s statement equating the Sanatana Dharma with diseases like dengue, and malaria that need to be eradicated had caused massive embarrassment for the alliance and even caused political damage, as was seen in the results of the recently concluded assembly elections in MP, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Soon after the election loss of Congress, Udaynidhi Stalin gave a statement saying his words were ‘twisted by the BJP’ and he never meant what he said.

In the I.N.D.I. Alliance meeting recently, the faultlines were again visible when Bihar CM Nitish Kumar told DMK leaders that Hindi is the national language and they should learn it.

Maldives: Police bar Christmas celebrations on inhabited islands, says violators will have to face strict legal action

On Sunday (24th December), the Maldives Police issued a statement advising the public not to hold any Christmas celebrations on any inhabited island in the Maldives. It must be mentioned that Maldives is one of the neighbouring countries of India, housing 98% of the Muslim population.

The advisory by the Police stated that Christmas was a Christian holiday celebrated in connection with the New Year and that such activities are prohibited by the laws and regulations of the Maldives.

“Such activities are prohibited by the laws and regulations of the Maldives. Therefore, no activities should be held in any of the islands to celebrate Christmas and action will be taken within the legal framework against those who conduct such activities,” the official statement by the Maldives Police read.

The Police advisory mentions that anyone celebrating Christmas or any such related activity on the islands will have to face legal action.

Notably, this comes a month after pro-China Mohammad Moizzu has taken over as the new President of the country. The president-elect is widely regarded as sympathetic to China’s interests in the country and less so to India, Maldives’ giant neighbour and traditional security and economic partner.

Mohammad Moizzu, who believes in the anti-India agenda, first paid a visit to Turkey after becoming the President, whereas till now the tradition has been that after taking oath in Maldives, the President first visits India.

Maldives is an island country whose economy is based on tourism and people of different religions and communities from different countries around the world visit Maldives. Amid this, it sounds a bit strange to issue a public advisory against a particular religion in such a country.

It is to be noted that, the Islamists in June 2022 had also disrupted Yoga Day celebrations in the Maldives. Islamists entered the Galolhu stadium where people were performing Yoga on the eighth International Yoga Day. They uprooted the flags in the stadium and used them to attack the participants of the celebrations.

As reported earlier, the event was organized by the Indian Mission in the Maldives in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Development. Diplomats, government officials, and Maldives ministers were present at the event when the Islamist extremists barged into the stadium.

‘Mohammed Zubair is spreading fake news against me’: Hindu activist Bittu Bajrangi vows to take legal action for claiming that assault on his brother was fake

On Sunday (24th December), the president of Gau Raksha Bajrang Force, Bittu Bajrangi, released a video accusing Alt News’ co-founder Mohammed Zubair and Hindustan Times (HT) of peddling a fake story against his brother.

HT claimed in a report that Bittu Bajrangi’s brother faked the assault, where he sustained 60 per cent burns on his body. Zubair shared the information widely on social media and propagated it as truth. However, the police officials investigating the matter rubbished HT’s report and said that the investigation was underway.

In his video statement, Bittu Bajrangi said, “I am facing a painful phase of conspiracy against me. Me and my family are the target of anti-social elements. Hindustan Times and Mohammed Zubair took advantage of my silence. They made false reports viral against me. The reporter who wrote the report has a communist mindset. However, in the end, she is my sister. It’s okay, sister.”

He emphasised, “The day you become a victim of Love Jihad or conspiracy-like Nikita Tomar, Bittu Bajrangi will stand with you as well. I am now coming to Mohammed Zubair, who is spreading fake news against me, though Faridabad Police have not released any statement. I will file a case against him in Faridabad. He will be questioned as per the law about the fake news he published. I will take legal action against those who published the fake news. Mohammed Zubair, a communist, is spreading fake news against me. The administration should take action against him.”

Zubair published multiple posts on social media against Bittu Bajrangi and his brother since the fake news was published by Hindustan Times. In a post on X, he wrote, “Cow vigilante #BittuBajrangi’s brother faked assault: Police.” He shared the link to the HT report in the post. However, the “fact checker” did not care to confirm if Faridabad Police gave any such statement or not.

Bittu’s statement was added on the day the report was published, where he denied the claims made in the HT report. Interestingly, Zubair shared the post on 24th December, two days after the original HT report was updated. However, Zubair conveniently ignored Bittu Bajrangi’s statement mentioned in the HT report.

On 13th December, an attempt was made on the life of Bittu Bajrangi’s brother Mahesh. The assailants poured thinner on him in Dabua Colony of Faridabad, Haryana and set him on fire. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition from where he was referred to Delhi. Mahesh sustained burn injuries on 60 per cent of his body.

Indian Railways clerk turns out to be terrorist, forged bills to fund ISIS module

On 9th December, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids at 44 locations linked to terrorist organisation ISIS in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The investigating agency arrested 15 ISIS terrorists following the raids. During further investigation into the module, the agency found out that one of the terrorists worked as a government employee with Northern Railways.

As per a report by The Indian Express, he forged medical bills to fund the terror module. Following the 9th December raids, NIA got the lead for more terrorists identified as Shahnawaz Alam, Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf and Mohammad Arshad Warsi.

All three of them were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in October this year. In November, NIA took over the matter on the directions of the Home Ministry.

Investigation into the three ISIS terrorists and their associates led to the detection of a common pattern. The NIA found that funds were regularly transferred from a common source to their accounts.

Further investigation and questioning revealed that the terrorist who had been sending them money was living in Noida and working as a clerk in the Northern Railways financial department.

An unnamed source in the Intelligence told The Indian Express that the terrorists arrested by the police had radicalised the Railways employee. The clerk is on the run, and multiple agencies are trying to trace him.

Though the exact way that he used to siphon off the money from Railways would become clear after his arrest, it appears that he filed several forged medical bills and put the account numbers of ISIS terrorists for reimbursement.

The source told The Indian Express, “The Northern Railways was informed about this. They have filed a complaint with Delhi Police at Parliament Street Police Station, alleging internal fraud and seeking an FIR against the clerk. But they did not mention anything about his nexus with the alleged ISIS terrorists.”

As per a report by Live Hindustan, a First Information Report was registered against the clerk under the relevant sections in Parliament Street Police Station.

ISIS module busted in Maharashtra

On 9th December, NIA busted an ISIS module in the Thane district of Maharashtra and arrested 15 terrorists. The investigating agency identified Saquib Nachan as the mastermind behind the module. The module was allegedly planning to carry out terror activities across India.

In a statement, NIA said, “The investigations have revealed that the accused, all members of ISIS Maharashtra module, were operating from Padgha-Borivali, where they had hatched the conspiracy to spread terror and carry out acts of violence across India. Pursuing the path of violent jihad, Khilafat, ISIS, etc, the accused had aimed to disturb the peace and communal harmony of the country and wage a war against the Government of India.”

Notably, Nachan is not a new name for the security agencies. He has been booked in over a dozen terror-related cases. In two of the cases, he was convicted by the court. In 1997, the Supreme Court convicted him of planning terror attacks with Khalistani terror organisations in the early 1990s. Further, he was also booked in the 2002-03 Mumbai blasts. Later, in 2016, he was convicted by a Mumbai court and sent to prison for ten years. He was released in 2017 after serving the sentence. His son Shamil Nachan is also involved in terror activities and was arrested by NIA in the ISIS module case.

“No clean chit, investigation underway”: Haryana police rubbishes HT report which claimed attack on Bittu Bajrangi’s brother was fake

The Faridabad Police has denied the claims in a report by the Hindustan Times (HT) which quotes a police officer to claim that the case of the attack on Hindu activist Bittu Bajrangi’s brother was fake.

Fake news peddler Mohammad Zubair on 24th December took to X to sharing a report by Hindustan Times. The report quoted the police to allege that Hindu activist Bittu Bajrangi’s brother, Mahesh Panchal faked his own assault.

Recently, Mahesh was attacked and an attempt was made to burn him alive allegedly by a group of accused men. Mahesh sustained 60 per cent burns and his still fighting for his life.

But, in order to dismiss the incident, Mohammad Zubair, by citing the HT report, began to advise on the social media platform that the news be changed.

The HT report is authored by a Leena Dhankhar. The headline reads, “Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi’s brother faked assault: Police”.

The report quotes the Faridabad Police saying that “Mahesh suffered burns after allegedly falling into a “bonfire”, and that there was no proof to suggest that his injuries were sustained in a murder attempt”.

The report quoted senior police officers to allege that Mahesh and Bittu Bajrangi lodged a “false complaint” to frame a suspected cow smuggler.

Moreover, it quoted Faridabad Police spokesperson Sube Singh who said that two CCTV cameras installed near the spot of the incident did not capture any assault on Mahesh.

In the report, the Singh qas quoted as saying that the “forensic team did not find any chemical substance, alcohol, petrol or diesel at the spot. The allegations mentioned in the complaint did not match with the footage and outcome of the forensic probe filed by the SIT”.

According to the complaint filed, Mahesh was attacked near Baba Mandi in Faridabad, Arman and his associates poured petrol on Mahesh Panchal, set his body on fire and then ran away.

On December 15, an SIT was formed in this case. Apart from examining the CCTV footage, more than 20 people were also interrogated.

The report also quotes Bittu Bajrangi who has said that the investigation has not been completed yet and no one has informed him that the case has been found to be fake.

He asked that why would he make up stories to trap someone? In the HT report, another unnamed senior police officer was quoted as saying that the nearby shopkeepers had not heard any noise at the time of the alleged attack.

While talking to OpIndia, the Faridabad Police has denied the claims in the HT report. When informed about the HT report, ACP Faridabad asked who in the force had declared this case fake.

He said that it is true that no evidence has been found against the accused in this case so far, but it does not mean that the case is said to be fake. He has confirmed that Bittu Bajrangi’s brother has been burnt.

He said that it is a matter of investigation as to how he got burnt, who burnt him and for what reason. He said that till now no one has been given a clean chit nor has the investigation ended, but the investigation is still going on.

He also said that the police have not reached any conclusion yet.

The report by HT and its promotion by Mohammad Zubair has once against exposed attempts to discredit and malign Hindu representatives.

After announcing the lifting of non-existent ‘hijab ban’, Karnataka govt now says ‘looking into the issue’

 With the debate on the hijab issue continuously heating with each passing day, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said that the government will take a decision after looking into the matter deeply.

“We have not made any orders regarding hijab. CM Siddaramaiah himself said that even if it is done, we will check it. The government will take a decision after looking into it deeply,” G Parameshwara told ANI.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao slammed the Congress-led Karnataka government on Sunday, saying that the Siddaramaiah government has not lifted the ban on hijab yet in the state and they are still thinking about it.

“They have not lifted the ban on hijab yet and the CM has said that they are thinking about it. People are seeing the behaviour of Congress–what they say before coming to power and how they change after getting power,” KTR said.

The debate on hijab issue again rose to prominence after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced in a public meeting that his government will lift the ban on hijab imposed by the previous BJP government in the state.

“We are thinking of withdrawing the decision (of hijab ban). We will discuss it. I have said this in response to a question. We have not done it yet,” the Chief Minister said.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai accused current CM Siddaramaiah of hiding the failures of his government as well as raising the issue for only political gains.

He told reporters here on Saturday that the Hijab was not banned all over the state but not allowed where there was a dress code. Muslim women are permitted to wear the hijab everywhere.

“When the hijab is not banned where is the question of lifting the ban,” he questioned.

The previous BJP government in the State had brought in an order stating that religious attires will not be permitted inside educational institutions where there is a uniform dress code rule. However, some Muslim students had demanded the right to wear hijab inside schools and colleges. The matter reached the Karnataka High Court, which also upheld the order by the then-BJP government. In this regard, the Supreme Court delivered a split verdict, leading to the Karnataka High Court verdict being upheld.

It is notable here that there was never a ‘hijab ban’ in Karnataka. The government order regarding uniform dress codes in schools and colleges was against all kinds of visible religious attire, not specifically hijab. The High Court upheld the rights of respective educational institutions to mandate a uniform dress code inside their premises.
