Kerala honour killing: Abees Muhammed kills minor daughter by force-feeding her herbicide, because she had a boyfriend in school

0

On Tuesday (7th November), a minor Muslim girl who was beaten and force-fed herbicide by her father Abees Muhammed for having a relationship with a boy of another religious community died at a private hospital in Kerala’s Kochi. The accused has been arrested by Aluva West Police.

In the shocking case of honour killing, the 14-year-old girl’s father Abees Muhammed hit his daughter with an iron rod and forcibly fed her herbicide on October 29. According to the FIR, accused Abees Muhammed tried to kill his daughter after he saw her talking to her boyfriend, a class 12th student, over the phone.

Irked by the girl’s attempt to talk to her non-Muslim boyfriend despite repeated warnings not to do so, accused Abees killed his 14-year-old daughter. The victim’s mother tried to stop the accused from forcibly pouring herbicide down the girl’s throat. However, her efforts went in vain. The victim’s mother later took the victim to the hospital.

As the victim was made to consume a significant quantity of herbicide, her internal organs were severely damaged and stopped working, resulting in the minor girl’s tragic death.

Reportedly, the victim and her father had a heated argument and accused Abees Muhammed threatened the girl to either consume the herbicide or he would.

The police said that accused Abees was opposed to his daughter’s relationship with a non-Muslim youth and had warned her to distance herself from her boyfriend. Earlier, when accused Abees had caught his daughter talking to her boyfriend, he snatched the mobile phone and destroyed it. However, the class 9th student girl continued to talk to the boy and was found using another phone. Both the girl and her boyfriend reportedly studied at the same school.

The 43-year-old accused, a native of Karumalloor, is an engineer with Vallarpadam container transhipment terminal in Kochi. Following the incident, the magistrate arrived at the hospital in Ernakulam and recorded the statements of the victim and her mother. Subsequently, accused Abees was arrested and since then he has been in judicial custody.

Initially, accused Abees Muhammed claimed that his daughter consumed herbicide on her own to commit suicide, however, the victim and her mother said in their statement that Abees forced-fed the herbicide to kill her for having a non-Muslim boyfriend.

At the time, police had booked Abees under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 324 (hurting using a dangerous weapon), 326-A (causing serious injury), and 307 (murder attempt) of the IPC, as well as section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Meanwhile, the police have said that after the victim has died, relevant sections will be slapped against the accused.

Kerala Police said that the victim’s body will sent to Kalamassery Medical College for postmortem examination. The police added that they will soon be filing a chargesheet in the case.

Plaques of ‘those who believe in God are idiots’, EVR statues to be removed from outside Temples in TN, HR&CE to go: Annamalai’s powerful election pitch

In a direct dare to Dravidian politics in Tamil Nadu, firebrand President of Tamil Nadu BJP K Annamalai has said that the statue of EV Ramasamy Naicker (EVR), also known by the epithet ‘Periyar’, outside the Srirangam Ranganathar Temple and all other temples would be removed once the BJP comes to power in the state.

While addressing a huge crowd in Srirangam on 7th November during his En Mann En Makkal yatra in Srirangam, Annamalai said, “Outside this (Ranganathar) temple, once the DMK came to power in 1967, they kept a plaque. What does that plaque say? ‘Those who believe in God are idiots, cheats. Don’t believe in God.’ As if they’ve achieved something big, they’ve installed such a plaque with a flag. We Hindus are people who live peacefully following the path of dharma.”

He said that the first task of the BJP after assuming power in the state would be to remove the plaque outside the temple.

“Today, from this land of Srirangam, the BJP is taking a vow. Once the BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, the first task would be to remove that plaque and flagpole outside the temple. Statues of Azhwars and Nayanmars would be installed. Statues of Tamil scholars would be erected. Tamil scholar Thiruvalluvar’s statue will be installed. Those who sacrificed their lives during the freedom movement, their statues would be installed and worshipped. Not the statue which says ‘Those who believe in God are idiots’. As soon as the BJP comes to power, the BJP government would remove all such statues placed outside all temples.”

The 12-foot-high EVR statue was installed outside the Ranganathar Temple by K Veeramani. K Veeramani is the head of the anti-Hindu organisation Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) founded by EVR in December 2006. The statue was installed by DK despite strong protests by Hindu organisations.

Hindu groups protested claiming that placing the statue of an atheist and promoting atheist slogans could offend the religious sentiments of Hindus. Violence had ensued reportedly in several parts of the state after activists from the Indhu Makkal Katchi (IMK) on 7th December 2006 damaged a cement statue of EVR.

Who is EVR or Periyar?

Known as the “Father of the Dravidian movement” which survives on brick-batting Hindus and the Hindu faith, EVR or Periyar is known for spreading vitriol among the masses in Tamil Nadu against Hinduism.

In 1953, Periyar organized agitations for the desecration of Ganesha idols. Thousands of Ganesha idols were broken on the day of the agitation. In 1956, Periyar led his followers to the Marina to burn pictures of Shri Rama.

In 1974, a year after Periyar’s death, his followers organised “Ravana Leela” at the headquarters of the Dravida Kazhagam under the leadership of Maniyammai, Periyar’s wife who was about four decades younger to him.

Over the years, Periyar has spread numerous canards about the Ramayana. All his lies were directed towards slandering the Maryada Purshottam. His lies ranged from accusing Shri Rama of being casteist to claiming that he killed and mutilated women

Annamalai makes a big announcement: HR&CE Department to go once BJP comes to power

Annamalai has launched scathing attacks on the DMK for hurting Hindu sentiments and the Hindu faith by destroying religious Hindu symbols and replacing them with Periyarite symbols.

He recounted how several attempts were made to destroy the Srirangam Temple by Mughal rulers and that now Udhayanidhi says that he will destroy Sanatana Dharma.

Hitting out at the state’s Hindu Religious Charities Department, Annamalai said that the body tried to select a person to be elected to the post of Srirangam Ranganarayana Jeer 51st Degree using the same procedures as for some ordinary office work.

“Srirangam Ranganathar temple east gate, entrance tower gate has collapsed. This is the aim of the Charity Department to protect the temples,” the TN BJP Chief said.

Addressing the crowd from a stage erected between the Raja Gopuram of the famous Vaishnavite temple and the statue of Periyar in Srirangam, Annamalai said that the day the BJP assumed power would be the last day for the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department, according to a Deccan Chronicle report.

He added, “To show how much the DMK government is afraid of the BJP, they have destroyed the lotus statue in the Srirangam temple. Lotus is not only a symbol of BJP. Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati are also seated on a lotus flower. Lotus is the national flower of our country. The DMK’s fear of the BJP is evident as it removes BJP flags on one side and destroys the lotus flower on the other.”

BJP promises train to Ayodhya for Hindus in Tamil Nadu

Annamalai announced that after the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, TN BJP will send pilgrims in train to Ayodhya free of cost to worship Lord Ram. After 22nd January, TN people can go on a pilgrimage to Ayodhya.

Punjab AG argues to stop paddy MSP as ‘one-day solution’ for stubble burning, but this is how AAP has been playing politics on it over the years

On 7th November, the Supreme Court of India questioned the Punjab government if phasing out paddy MSP was an option to consider controlling pollution. The apex court called for serious consideration of a proposal to phase out paddy cultivation in the state to encourage farmers to shift to traditional crops, including millets. The two-judge bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia was hearing petitions related to stubble burning in Punjab and pollution created by the practice.

Replying to the court, advocate general of Punjab Gurminder Singh highlighted the need to phase out paddy cultivation and agreed that removing MSP from paddy could be an “absolute one-day solution”. He said, “Then it will be an absolute one-day solution… Farmers will shift to other crops like millet and bajra. We need to diversify our crops. Provide for MSP on these alternate crops to incentivise farmers… There is no point in arresting marginal farmers for burning paddy stubble in Punjab… And we do not want to pass the buck for pollution to other States, but we want to be part of a progressive solution.”

While agreeing to Singh’s submissions that MSP was required on alternate crops, the court noted that paddy cultivation in the state had contributed extensively to the declining water table. It has resulted in a serious loss of valuable groundwater resources. Notably, paddy is not a staple crop of Punjab, and it was introduced in the state under the Food Security Act to support public distribution schemes. Heavy incentives were given to the farmers, making paddy a lucrative option.

Justice Kaul pointed out that MSP on paddy led to smuggling of the crop from neighbouring states. He said, “Paddy grown in adjacent States is illegally brought to Punjab to claim MSP.”

The AG represents the Mann government in court, but interestingly, AAP’s politics on paddy MSPs has been totally contradictory over the years.

Interestingly, during the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta questioned why Punjab was not using the biochemicals to change stubble to fertiliser that was being promoted by the Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for years. He questioned if Kejriwal’s counterpart in Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, was open to adopting the suggestions coming from the “highest authority in Delhi”.

On 7th November, OpIndia reported how, over the years, Arvind Kejriwal had spent crores promoting a solution developed by IARI, Pusa that reportedly converts stubble to fertiliser and had urged Punjab and other states to adopt it as an option. However, as soon as the AAP-led government came to power in Punjab, the emphasis on the solution virtually vanished from the discussion.

Following the hearing, AAP’s spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang demanded that Centre and Haryana should set up funds to tackle stubble burning. AAP also demanded MSP for alternate crops. Accusing the central government of rejecting the proposal to set up a fund to tackle the problem, he said, “Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal have asked the Haryana government and the Modi government to set up a fund to tackle this problem, but the Centre has rejected the proposal. Now the Supreme Court has directed all governments, including the central government, to take measures to stop stubble burning and curb the pollution in Delhi.”

Notably, the proposal he was talking about was to pressure the central government to pay Rs 1,500 of the Rs 2,500 per acre proposed by AAP to pay to farmers as compensation for not burning stubble, while Punjab and Delhi would have paid Rs 500 to pay farmers not to burn stubble.

Interestingly, while the Supreme Court slammed Punjab for not doing “enough” to control stubble burning, followed by AAP’s demands to introduce MSP on alternate crops, AAP leaders had earlier given a clean chit to Punjab, saying the stubble burning in the AAP-led state was not affecting the air quality of the national capital. They had blamed stubble burning in Haryana for the pollution in Delhi. However, the satellite data showed stubble burning in Haryana in the last ten days was minuscule compared to Punjab.

AAP played MSP politics on paddy for years

For years, Aam Aadmi Party leaders have played MSP politics to gain brownie points from all directions. In June 2017, AAP’s Odisha Unit observed a state-wide protest pressuring the Central government to increase MSP. The party leaders claimed the hike in MSP was not enough to cover the farmers’ cost.

In July 2018, AAP categorically rejected the raise in Paddy MSP, claiming it was not on par with the promise made by the central government. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AAP’s MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said the MSP was nowhere close to the fixed 50 percent over and above the cost of inputs.

In January 2019, Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, announced an MSP increase for wheat and paddy crops. Notably, the announcement came months before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. The raise was expected to benefit 20,000 farmer families in the national capital. The announced MSP was Rs 776 per quintal higher for wheat and Rs 897 for paddy.

Coming to Punjab in 2022, AAP announced MSP on moong and maize apart from wheat, paddy and cotton provided by the central government. The aim was to introduce diversification in the crops. AAP used the announcement as a political promise in the Gujarat elections. AAP’s chief, Arvind Kejriwal, said the same MSP would be provided in Gujarat if the party came to power. However, soon after the announcement, the farmer organisations and opposition parties in Punjab slammed the AAP leaders for misleading the people of Gujarat.

They said that while the central government provides MSP on wheat, paddy and cotton, the Punjab Government had announced MSP on moong and maize. However, MSP on Maize was not given, and in the case of moong, the farmers had to sell the crop at a much lower price than MSP.

In 2023, BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal targeted AAP for low procurement of moong and maize by the state government. By the end of June 2023, the opposition leaders alleged that the procurement stood at only 2,280 quintals of moong compared to 9,902 quintals purchased in 2022. Notably, farmers had shifted to moong on CM Mann’s “request” to introduce diversification as he promised to buy the crop at MSP.

Then-Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma accused AAP of running away from buying maize and moong at MSP and said the farmers were forced to sell the crops at low prices.

In the case of maize, the MSP was set at Rs 2,090 by the state government. However, the farmers had to sell it at Rs 1,900 per quintal as the state government failed to procure the crop.

Assam Congress MLA Aftabuddin Mollah arrested for hate speech against Hindus saints, had said, ‘Wherever there is rape, a Sadhu is involved’: Details

The Assam Police on Wednesday (8th November) arrested Congress MLA Aftabuddin Mollah for disparaging priests, namgharias, and saints. DGP GP Singh confirmed that a case has been registered at Dispur police station under sections 295(a), 153A(1)(b), and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

On November 4, 2023, at a public meeting in Goalpara district, Aftab Uddin Mollah made a highly offensive remark about priests, namgharias, and saints in his speech.

“Wherever there is a rape, always a Sadhu (Hindu Priest) or Namghoria (caretaker of Vaisnav Prayer House) is involved. They blame Muslims to hide the sins committed by Hindu Priests,” Mollah reportedly could be heard saying in the meeting, the video of which is making rounds on social media.

The FIR in the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a resident of Guwahati’s Bhetapara identified as Deepak Kumar Das. He said that the Goalpara MLA made highly offensive remarks about Priests and Saints.

“The MLA has deliberately maliciously made this speech and the same has hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus. Further, on account of this speech the MLA has promoted enmity between Hindus and Muslims and his acts are prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between Hindus and Muslims,” the FIR filed in the case read.

Notably, on 7th November, the Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah also issued a show-cause notice to its Goalpara MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah for delivering a highly obnoxious comment against the Priests, Namgharias and Saints.

“On the 4th November 2023, at a public meeting held in Goalpara district, you delivered a highly obnoxious comment in your speech about the Priests, Namgharias, and Saints which has been strongly reacted by the people of Assam. Being a secular Democratic Political Party, the Indian National Congress is totally against the works of spreading hatred and religious and communal poisonous comments. Rather, Indian National Congress has been persistently working to spread the message of unity, integrity, and social harmonious consciousness amongst the people of the Country amidst diversity,” the notice read.

Furthermore, the state unit pointed out that the Indian National Congress has never been against Saints, Priests, Peers, Maulanas, or Namgharias, and that the Congress has always shown due respect to them.

“I am extremely unhappy and ask you to withdraw your statement and seek a public apology in front of the Media immediately,” Bhupen Borah was quoted as stating.

Rajasthan: CM Gehlot promises English language education for all students in the state in Congress Guarantee Yatra

0

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the Congress party’s commitment is to provide English language education to students in the state.

CM Gehlot highlighted the party’s pledges while addressing a gathering during the ‘Congress Guarantee Yatra’ in Jaipur, stating, “It’s your money, and it’s being spent on you. We have provided social security with this consideration, and people welcome it. We have made a guarantee to offer English language education. I, too, was opposed to English during my childhood. It was a different era. In the South, people were against Hindi, and in the North, people were against English. I now understand that it’s an international language. It dominates the internet. If students learn it, they will have a bright future.”

In addition to the rally, during a press conference in the state capital, CM Gehlot underscored the party’s commitments and stated that “BJP’s power is ED, my power is guarantees.”

In discussing the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections, CM Gehlot mentioned that party leaders would make efforts to inform the people of the state about the work accomplished during the 5 years of Congress governance.

“We will establish 1,000 guarantee camps across Rajasthan, and we will issue guarantee cards to approximately 2 crore people. We will reach people through door-to-door visits, using both offline and online methods, as well as missed calls. This is our plan to inform the public about our performance over the last 5 years,” he added.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats while the BJP won 73 seats in the 200-member house. Ashok Gehlot came to power with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.

Rajasthan will go to polls on November 25, the counting of which will take place on December 5 along with four other state assembly elections.

‘Mahua Moitra came to my house’: Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai accuses TMC MP of trespassing, lodges complaint against her

0

On 7th November (Tuesday), Jai Anant Dehadrai wrote a letter to the Delhi Police accusing TMC MP Mahua Moitra – who had referred to Jai as a “jilted ex” – of “trespassing” and intimidating him.

In his letter to the SHO of Hauz Khas police station, he asserted that Moitra came to his house unannounced on the 5th and 6th of November, days after she had appeared before the Parliamentary ethics committee.

Asserting that this is a “grave cause for concern for him”, he said, “Given her past history of filing fraudulent criminal complaints against me (24.03.2023 and 23.09.2023) and falsely alleging offences such as trespass, and criminal intimidation, and thereafter withdrawing the same in writing (on 04.10.2023), it is a grave cause for concern to me.”

The complaint added, “Mahua Moitra, Member of Parliament came unannounced to my residence on 05.11.2023 at around 11 am and on 06.11.2023 at around 9 am. There is every possibility that Moitra might intentionally come to my residential premises with the sole objective of filing further fraudulent complaints against me. I have previously informed the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, regarding these fraudulent and bogus complaints by Ms Moitra.”

The Supreme Court Advocate further asserted that the TMC MP’s visit to his residence had a clear intent of trespass and intimidation. Subsequently, he called on the police urging them to conduct an investigation into the matter and initiate a case.

It is important to note that apart from accusing TMC MP Moitra of taking bribes for asking questions in Parliament, Jai Anant Dehadrai has also accused her of stealing his pet dog, a Rottweiler named Henry.

The complaint letter further added, “I have previously informed the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, on 19.10.2023 and then on 21.10.2023 regarding these fraudulent and bogus complaints which Ms Moitra had foisted on me with the objective of using them as leverage to force/compel me to handover the custody of my pet dog, and I have also flagged to the Commissioner the very serious threat to my life which I anticipate on account of the Complaints filed by me with CBI against Smt. Moitra and her associates / accomplices.”

He stressed that he wished to make it absolutely clear that he had not invited Smt. Moitra to his residence, and that she has come uninvited and with a very apparent intention to commit trespass and to intimidate him.

Earlier in the alleged Mahuagate scam, TMC MP Mahua Moitra stormed out of the Parliament Ethics Committee meeting where she was summoned for questioning in the ‘cash for query scam’ on 2nd November accusing the panel of asking “filthy questions”.

However, the committee later hit back saying that she did not cooperate and left to avoid answering more questions.

Notably, Mahua Moitra is being questioned based on reports received by the Ethics Committee from three Union Ministries namely Home, Information Technology and External Affairs ministries, along with other documents and evidence. The panel had sought information from the three ministries after a meeting held on October 26. The committee had inquired about several things, including whether her login IP addresses and her locations matched.

It may be recalled that the IT ministry had stated that it had sent a report to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee confirming that the TMC leader’s parliamentary ID was accessed 49 times from Dubai.

It is notable here that businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who has admitted to getting access to Mahua Moitra’s Lok Sabha login ID and password, lives in Dubai.

‘His speech a dark stain on our society’: NCW condemns Bihar CM’s cheap remark on women in Bihar Assembly, seeks immediate apology

0

The National Commission of Woman (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma Tuesday, took strong objection to the “derogatory and cheap” language used for women by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar inside the assembly while talking on the issue of birth control and population control. Calling it an affront to the dignity of the women, NCW demanded an immediate and unequivocal apology from Nitish Kumar for his crass comment.

Terming his speech “a dark stain on our society”, Rekha Sharma wrote on X, “On behalf of every woman in this country, as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, I demand an immediate and unequivocal apology from the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar. His crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves. Such derogatory and cheap language used during his speech is a dark stain on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. We stand firm against such behavior and call for accountability.

The Women’s rights body also wrote a post on its official X handle demanding that the Bihar CM apologises to women across the country.

“National Commission for Women, vehemently condemns the recent statements made by Nitish Kumar in the Vidhan Sabha concerning women’s fertility and education and linking it to the population of the country. Such remarks are not only regressive but also egregiously insensitive to women’s rights and choices. Bihar’s Chief Minister should issue an apology to women across the country for these deeply offensive remarks,” the post on NCW’s official X handle read.

The NCW’s strong response came after news agency ANI shared a snippet of the speech, Nitish Kumar gave in the Bihar Assembly today. The Bihar Chief Minister emphasized the need for sex education for girls and, in a very demeaning manner, described how men often have sex with women after marriage and that, with education, women may avoid getting pregnant.

Agar ladki padh legi… aur jab shaadi hoga ladka-ladki mein… aur woh jo purush hai, roz raat mein jab shaadiya hota hai, uske saath karta hai na… to usi mein aur paida ho jata hai… aur ladki padh leti hai… ki humko maloom tha ki woh karega theek hai… lekin ant mein usko bheetar mat ghusao… usko bahar kar do… aur karta to hai… to usi mein… aap samajh lijiye ki sankhya ghat rahi hai”, as reported by Jansatta Hindi.(If a girl receives an education… and when the marriage happens between a boy and a girl… and the man, every night after marriage, engages in that activity with her, right? So, in that, further births occur… and if the girl gets an education… she will know that he would do it, alright… but in the end, don’t let it inside… pull it out… and if it happens… in that… you understand that the numbers are decreasing),” the Bihar CM said.

While the female members in attendance appeared uneasy, other House members, like as Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, were spotted smiling inside the Assembly as the chief minister made the offensive remark. BJP’s woman MLA Nikki Hembram expressed strong objection to Nitish Kumar’s statement.

Nitish Kumar’s descriptive remarks created an uproar in the assembly. As soon as Nitish Kumar’s speech went viral, Bihar BJP tore into Nitish Kumar for making such a vulgar remark.

“One has never seen a politician in Indian politics like Nitish Babu, with such explicit behaviour. It seems that Nitish Babu’s mind is tainted with the fascination for “B” grade adult movies. There should be a public restriction on his double-meaning statements. It appears that he has taken on the traits of his partners,” the Bihar BJP wrote.

Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh also expressed displeasure over Nitish Kumar’s remarks in the state assembly adding that the chief minister is no longer fit to represent a civilised society.

“Nitish Kumar’s has lost his mental balance. The kind of indecent statement he has given in the Assembly has made him no longer fit to represent civilised society. He should resign,” he said on X.

Several social media users also called out Nitish Kumar for his “crude” and “obscene” remark on women.

Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav however insisted that the statement ‘should be taken as sex education’.

Hi Nitish Kumar, have you heard of condoms? Why Bihar CM’s crude remarks in assembly display a vulgar illiteracy around sex and reproductive health

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is in the news today for his vulgar, crude display of hand gestures and bizarre remarks inside the assembly, where he was trying to explain “sex education”, in terms of his deputy CM. While addressing the assembly the Bihar CM, using extremely crass language and with hand gestures, stated, “When men and women get married, the men ‘do it’ every night, especially in winters. If the girl is educated, she will not let him ejaculate inside. She will make him ejaculate outside her body. So eventually the population will come down.”

The CM, smirking at his own assumed smartness, was seen proudly gesticulating to explain his statement. He stood laughing and looking at his fellow assemblymen for support, beaming with pride at his imaginary smartness, he was showing crude finger and hand gestures to ‘explain’ the act of sex and even waiting for laughter after making his so-called joked.

As expected, the men inside Bihar assembly did not disappoint him. Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav was seen roaring with laughter at this statement and gestures. Ironically, Tejashwi Yadav is also the minister for Health and Family Welfare in Bihar. Now we know how serious he must be in his job.

Nitish Kumar’s crude, vulgar and distasteful blabbering is not just a disrespect to the assembly’s honor and a shame on his constitutional post, it is a pathetic display of the very mentality that causes the dismal condition of healthcare in his state and other states across the country. That prurient, ribald callousness mixed with the hubris of power and position that is so common in Indian politicians is the reason why Bihar has been one of the worst states in terms of women’s health and maternal mortality rates, rape crimes, dowry deaths, infant mortality, and women’s overall general suffering.

As on December 2022, Bihar’s performance in terms of maternal mortality rate was worse than the national average. Bihar showed the MMR of 118, much higher than the national average of 97 in terms of maternal mortality per lakh live births.

In 2022, a report by the CAG highlighted that the second tier health infrastructure in Bihar is crumbling. In its sample study of 5 districts including Patna, none of the district hospitals had a functional OT, a functional ICU or a blood bank. The shortfall of beds was at 90% and 60% of patients spent money from their own pocket for prescribed medicines. Diagnostics facilities were nil.

The problems with Nitish Kumar’s statement are not just about impropriety and shamelessness. The whole affair was crass, pathetic and disturbingly problematic at multiple levels.

There are 29 women MLAs in the Bihar assembly. Nitish Kumar’s crude gesticulation and Tejashwi Yadav’s laughter enabling and encouraging that behavior is the proof that the Bihar assembly is not a safe workspace for the 29 women MLAs. Imagine the CM of the state making sexual hand gestures and cracking ribald jokes about women’s private parts and sexual acts at the workplace while other men laugh like maniacs. News stories and the entertainment industry often present stories telling how Bihar is unsafe for women. Bihar CM today displayed why exactly that is the case. The ruling elites of the state have zero respect for women’s safety and health.

Nitish Kumar, despite being the CM of the state for the longest term, throws around casual, ribald remarks about a matter as sensitive as women’s health and birth rates. What the CM essentially meant was “Men will anyway do it, it is the woman’s job to prevent pregnancies”.

The Bihar CM has perhaps not heard of condoms or other methods of birth control, and neither does he care about the sensitive issue of family planning that should ideally involve both partners, keeping in mind their physical and mental well-being. The CM of the state essentially told women of Bihar, “It is your fault if you get pregnant, You could have prevented it by making your man ejaculate outside, because men will ‘do it’ anyway, they need to do it every night”.

How different is that statement from saying ‘it was her fault for getting raped or getting molested’. This shameless disregard for women’s dignity, health, and reproductive health is the reason for so many of our social issues, destroying families, claiming lives, and plaguing generations of Indians year after year.

Nitish Kumar, by his shameful remarks, has put the onus of birth control, pregnancy, and childbirth only on the women, displaying the very attitude that causes horrific maternal mortalities in this country even decades after independence. The very mentality of indifference while millions of women in this country suffer from anemia, risky pregnancies, and subsequent problems all their lives because of lack of proper healthcare around pregnancies and childbirth.

For people like Nitish Kumar and the late Mulayam Yadav, men will be men, they will have unprotected sex every night, they will rape anyone they want and they will be entitled to sex whenever and however they want, it is the woman’s problem what happens after that. It is just entertainment for the man, as per the politicians ruling states.

The casual way the CM of a state passes crude remarks about birth rates and the foolishness of claiming idiotic things like “especially in winters, men will want to ‘do it’ every night”, shows how serious the JDU-RJD government is about women’s health and reproductive health in their state. They laugh it off like shameless illiterates, they giggle about it while the general public of Bihar faces the consequences of their incompetency.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs in Bihar.

‘Don’t let it inside, pull it out’: Nitish Kumar’s comments on population control in Bihar assembly stir a row

On 7th November (Tuesday), Bihar CM Nitish Kumar courted a new controversy while speaking on population control in the state legislative assembly. While underscoring the importance of women’s education in controlling the population, Nitish Kumar’s descriptive remarks created an uproar in the assembly. The comments drew smiles, including from Nitish Kumar’s deputy Tejashwi Yadav, seated behind him, while several women MLAs appeared uncomfortable, India Today reported.

During the discussion, CM Nitish said that the literacy of women has increased in Bihar. He said that if the girl child remains educated then the population will be controlled.

To lay emphasis on this, Nitish Kumar said, “Agar ladki padh legi… aur jab shaadi hoga ladka-ladki mein… aur woh jo purush hai, roz raat mein jab shaadiya hota hai, uske saath karta hai na… to usi mein aur paida ho jata hai… aur ladki padh leti hai… ki humko maloom tha ki woh karega theek hai… lekin ant mein usko bheetar mat ghusao… usko bahar kar do… aur karta to hai… to usi mein… aap samajh lijiye ki sankhya ghat rahi hai”, as reported by Jansatta Hindi.(If a girl receives an education… and when the marriage happens between a boy and a girl… and the man, every night after marriage, engages in that activity with her, right? So, in that, further births occur… and if the girl gets an education… she will know that he would do it, alright… but in the end, don’t let it inside… pull it out… and if it happens… in that… you understand that the numbers are decreasing).”

If this wasn’t enough, Kumar went further in using unparliamentary language to explain his position.

During his address, the JDU leader added that the fertility rate which was earlier at 4.3 per cent, has now dropped to 2.9 per cent according to a report last year. Further, he also tabled the detailed report of the Caste Census carried out throughout the state and proposed that the reservation ceiling should be raised from 50% to 75%.

Meanwhile, when the JDU leader made these remarks in the Bihar Assembly, most of the ruling party MLAs were laughing while the women MLAs felt embarrassed. However, BJP’s woman MLA Nikki Hembram expressed strong objection to Nitish Kumar’s statement.

Launching a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister for his remarks, BJP leader Tarkishore Prasad stressed that the CM could have said this in a better way. BJP MLA Nikki Hembram said that the CM could have said this in a dignified manner. She alleged that there was no respect in his mind towards women.

BJP MLA Gayatri Devi said, “The Chief Minister has crossed the age of 70 years and has made nonsensical remarks. He used a word that we cannot utter at all. All of us women will protest against this.”

Similarly, Congress legislator Pratima Das said that the Chief Minister should exercise restraint in certain matters. She said, “Our society prohibits us from saying certain things in public.”

Taking to X, Bihar BJP also shared a snippet of his controversial remarks made in the state assembly. Lambasting the CM, the post in Hindi states, “Nobody has ever seen an obscene leader like Nitish Kumar in Indian politics. It seems that Nitish Babu’s mind is infested with the desire for “B” grade adult films. There should be a public ban on his double-meaning dialogues. It seems he is influenced by his company!”

Amid widespread criticism, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav came out in support of Nitish Kumar’s controversial remarks on population control. He said, “The statement pertains to sex education. This is taught in Biology.”

Previously in March this year, Nitish Kumar had made another controversial remark in the Assembly. He talked about men’s behaviour and said that no matter how much hard work you do, some men always make a mess. He said that when he was an MP, they saw that a man was doing it with an animal early in the morning.

Noida: Mufid Khan uses fake documents to usurp govt land left behind by Taufiq after he migrated to Pakistan in 1947, FIR filed after 76 years

A case of land grabbing involving an ‘enemy property’ belonging to a person who migrated to Pakistan post-independence has surfaced in the Noida district in Uttar Pradesh. Here, Mufid Khan, his wife Rihanna Khan and a few other people have been accused of usurping the land, which now technically belongs to the government, using fake documents.

On October 24, 2023, Noida Police filed a formal complaint against the accused under several sections as per the court’s directives and began investigating the case.

Notably, ‘enemy properties’ are those left behind by people who took citizenship of Pakistan and China after leaving India during the partition and post the 1962 and 1965 wars. The central government, through the Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI), owns enemy properties spread across many states in the country.

Taufiq, who migrated to Pakistan after the partition

In this instance, the complainant Nasir, son of one Noor Mohammad, who originally lived in the Punhana district in Mewat. The complainant stated that Taufiq, a resident of Jewar, left India and went to Pakistan during the 1947 partition. Taufiq left behind 6.838 hectares of land in the Mehndipur Aliabad area in Noida, when he left the country. The complainant alleged that Taufiq’s land ought to have been owned by the Indian government as per law, however, the accused usurped it using false documents.

Noor Mohammad alleged that even after Taufiq moved to Pakistan, the land remained listed in the name of Taufiq’s son Nagda. According to him, the authorities in the concerned department somehow remained unaware of this matter. Nor did anyone from the area bring up the matter with the authorities. This is why the land continued to remain in the name of Taufiq’s son for a long time.

Mufid Khan alias MA Khan, meanwhile, took advantage of this and in connivance with some other fraudsters, got fake land documents made in the name of Natwarlal. Mufid Khan then transferred Taufiq’s land to his wife Rihanna’s name based on these fictitious documents.

According to reports, both accused are residents of Kila colony which comes under the jurisdiction of Jewar Police station in Uttar Pradesh. The complainant said that on October 9 and 10, he wrote to the SHO of Jewar PS, Police Commissioner of Gautam Budh Nagar and the SDM of Jewar, apprising them about the issue. He sent his complaint via speed post and also shot a mail to them, however, no action was taken in the matter. Rather, on October 11, accused Rihanna and Mufid Khan threatened the complainant, Noor Mohammad with death and put pressure on him to drop the case.

After not getting any positive response from the police, the complainant approached the court. Finally, on the orders of the court, a case was registered on October 24, 2023, in the Jewar police station under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120 B and 506 of IPC. The FIR named Rihanna, Mufid Khan, and some other unidentified individuals as accused in the case.

The investigation of the case has been handed over to Sub Inspector Ajay Kumar. Talking to the media, Jewar police station in-charge said that the case is being investigated. OpIndia has a copy of the FIR.

Many former officials in Noida have come under scrutiny

OpIndia spoke to Noor Mohammad’s lawyer Irshad Chaudhary on this matter. According to Irshad, a thorough inquiry into the situation will reveal that numerous former officers were also complicit in the illegal acquisition of ‘enemy properties’ that were left behind by people who migrated to Pakistan after the partition.

The lawyer alleged that these officials not only assisted those who immigrated to Pakistan in obtaining fake domicile certificates but also in procuring fake death certificates, enabling them to continue to project themselves as citizens of India.

Lawyer Irshad Chaudhary said that the land that belonged to Taufiq, before he migrated to Pakistan, is very close to the Jewar Court and can be utilized for a variety of big government projects, including the opening of courts or police stations.

Calling the accused a repeat offender, Irshad Chaudhary said that despite accused Mufid and Rihanna Khan being involved in various such cases of the misappropriation of land, the administration has not yet taken any action against them.

He further declared that his client would continue to pursue the legal battle. Irshad Chaudhary, who believes that this issue is far more serious than treason, expressed disbelief that no one has been arrested in the matter so far.

Meanwhile, OpIndia also spoke to ADCP Greater Noida Ashok Kumar who confirmed that he will review the case and issue a statement in this regard.
