BHU to investigate after student protests: One professor threatening students with SC/ST cases, past complaints against her by 65 profs and more. Exclusive details

Students at Varanasi’s Banaras Hindu University (BHU) are protesting against a Professor named Shobhana Narlikar who repeatedly threatens to implicate them under SC/ST Act. Several videos of Professor Shobhana Narlikar have gone viral as well. The protesting students stated that neither local journalists nor mainstream media are raising their issue. However, the university administration has assured to take action.

Professor Shobhana Narlikar has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Journalism at BHU. Some students were selected for an internship at the ‘Press Council of India’. When the selected students requested Professor Shobhana Narlikar for her signature, she refused without explanation. When the students complained, they claim they were not only abused but a bogus case was also filed against them.

Following this, several BHU journalism students blocked the road leading to the Vishwanath temple and sat on a dharna in front of the department. After a 15-day dharna, the university administration promised an investigation, and the dharna was called off. However, the students’ demonstration may resume soon. The students demanded that not only a committee be formed to investigate the accusations against Shobha Narlikar, but that she be relieved of her position until that time.

Speaking to OpIndia, the protesting BHU students stated that they will no longer tolerate wrongdoing such as conspiring against them through inhumane conduct. Meanwhile, the top authorities of the university, including the chief proctor, attempted to address the problem by holding many rounds of negotiations with the students sitting on the dharna, but the students’ rage did not abate.

OpIndia asked these students what triggered their demonstration. The students pointed out that the Head of the Department’s attitude towards students, professors, and personnel is not good. Students stated that Professor Shobhana Narlikar had filed lawsuits against other professors under the SC/ST Act, but that the majority of them had been proven innocent. She misbehaves with students who come to get her signature on documents pertaining to hostels, scholarships, internships and sports.

65 BHU professors had submitted a complaint against Professor Shobhana Narlikar to the Vice Chancellor

The protesting students also said that whenever they approached the professor to sign their documents, she often refused and returned them, putting their careers in jeopardy. When a student went to complain about the chaos in the department, Professor Shobhana Narlikar threatened to end his career, according to a student. It has also been alleged that the marks of several students were tampered with arbitrarily by taking copies of the examination under her possession. A student claimed that Professor Shobhana Narlikar verbally abused her as she chased her out of her office.

Not just students, but several teachers are also opposed to Professor Shobhana Narlikar. It is said that this episode has hampered the regular classes. Professor Narlikar is also accused of boasting about her position to intimidate others. The students have stated that if their demands are not met, they will fast until death. The unique aspect is that in the past, several professors have resorted to the streets to protest against Professor Narlikar.

Pankaj Kumar, a professor in the same department, was sued by Shobhana Narlikar under the SC/ST Act. Following this, a group of 65 teachers filed a complaint with the Vice Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor had assured a judicial inquiry into the allegations levelled by both sides. A committee was also set up, led by retired Justice Kalimullah. OpIndia also has a copy of the FIR in which Shobhana Narlikar filed a case against Professor Pankaj Kumar.

Similarly, Shobhana filed a case under the SC/ST Act against Professor Shishir Basu. However, after roughly ten years, in 2022, a court in Varanasi found him innocent. The court stated in its judgement that the complainant had spoken about harassment since 2003, but it took a decade to file a complaint. The court dismissed the case as an academic dispute, stating that the prosecution had failed to prove when the incident transpired.

Court order in Professor Shishir Basu case

Shobhana Narlikar, on the other hand, claimed in her complaint against Pankaj Kumar that Kumar hurled casteist slurs against her. OpIndia also has a copy of the court order, which states that the victim has been dissatisfied with the functioning of BHU and had alleged sexual harassment. Shobhana Narlikar claimed that Professor Basu made his students do obscene acts against her, but the court stated that no witness or evidence was produced to substantiate the claim.

The court further noted discrepancies between the FIR and other statements. A video has also emerged in which professor Shobhana Narlikar used abusive language against another professor. An image of his ripped garments has also surfaced. Students said that after doing all of this, she reached the police station to register a complaint. In a video professor Shobhana Narlikar is seen threatening to thrash the student recording the video with her shoes. Another student said that the professor also hurled abuses against his mother and sister.

Uttar Pradesh: Maulana Nijamuddin impregnates a married Hindu woman, converts her and gets her raped by his relatives, arrested, 5 others booked

Several cases of Love Jihad cases have been unearthed in the state of Uttar Pradesh where Hindu women are seen targeted by Muslims who further destroy their lives. In one such recent case from Moradabad district, a Maulana identified as Nijamuddin trapped an already-married Hindu woman in a relationship and raped her. He also then converted her religion to Islam and forced her to satisfy the physical needs of his other male relatives.

According to reports, the incident came to the fore after the victim woman filed a police complaint saying that she was brutally raped by the accused and his relatives. She also said that she was forced to marry and convert her religion to Islam.

The victim woman is said to have met the accused in the year 2016 after which the accused expressed his love for her. He then established sexual relations with her and impregnated her. Later he forced the woman into marriage and also converted her religion to Islam.

The woman also confessed that she was raped by the other relatives of her husband and was asked to satisfy their physical needs. On refusal, the woman was harassed and threatened with death.

As per reports, the accused is also said to have harassed multiple women in the past. He also had recorded derogatory videos of the victim and was threatening to make them viral if she would fail to listen to him.

The Police in the case have filed an FIR against Nijamuddin and his relatives. While the police have arrested Nijamuddin, the search for his relatives, including three brothers of the primary accused and two other relatives, is on. The police have also assured that all the accused will soon be arrested.

Ukrainian oil company Burisma, of which Hunter Biden was a Board member, paid $5 million to Joe Biden when he was US VP: Reports

A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) informant has alleged that one of the largest natural gas producers in Ukraine, Burisma Holdings, paid $5 million (~₹41 crores) to Joe Biden between 2015 and 2016.

The whistleblower made the revelations during an interview with the FBI in June 2020, which the agency recorded in an FD-1023 form (used to record unverified information from confidential sources). It must be mentioned that Joe Biden was serving as the Vice-President of the United States at that time.

Interestingly, Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden was a member of the Board of Burisma Holdings during the same period. The highly credible informant told the FBI that the alleged payment of $5 million was made to facilitate the company’s entry into the US oil and natural gas market.

He alleged that the high-level ‘criminal bribery scheme’ involved an executive of Burisma Holdings who had influence over the US policy decisions, despite being a foreign national.

Reportedly, the Burisma executive believed Hunter Biden is ‘dumb’ and thus sought counsel from the whistleblower on getting involved with a US oil firm and gaining US oil rights.

He also conceded ‘paying the Bidens’ as Burisma Holdings was under investigation in Ukraine at that time, thus making it difficult for the company to gain access to the US market. “$5 million for one Biden, $5 million for the other Biden,” the Burisma executive had told the whistleblower.

He also revealed that the payments were routed through different bank accounts such that it would take at least 10 years for investigators to unravel the source. The executive, however, made it clear that the alleged payment of $5 million was not made directly to the ‘Big Guy’ (a supposed reference to Joe Biden).

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who had seen the FBI document, told American conservative host, Benny Johnson, “And so what I can say is this is: This has been going on for many years and there was a 5 million dollar payment made to Joe Biden. Not Hunter Biden, Joe Biden – The Big Guy.”

According to Fox News Digital, the whistleblower is a regular, reliable source of information used by the FBI since 2010. He has been paid $2,00,000 (~1.64 crores) for his work.

Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee (the primary investigative committee of the US House of Representatives) subpoenaed the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the FD-1023 document. As per reports, the agency has offered to allow all members of the committee to view the contentious document.

US President Joe Biden has dismissed the allegations made by the whistleblower to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. On being quizzed about the matter, he said, “Where’s the money? It’s a bunch of malarkey”

The controversy surrounding Hunter Biden and his laptop

It is notable here that in the last weeks of the 2020 US presidential elections, the New York Post published an explosive story about Hunter Biden’s problematic emails with a Ukrainian gas company executive from Burisma.

In its report, the news outlet alleged that they had accessed material from a damaged Macbook that was brought to a service centre for repair. The customer who brought the laptop never collected or paid for the services.

The shop owner said he repeatedly tried to contact the client. Though he could not identify the owner as Hunter Biden, he said the laptop had Beau Biden Foundation’s sticker.

The report has several documents and mentions a video that proves that Joe Biden met a high-profile businessman from Ukraine when he was Vice President of the United States.

Reports suggested that Biden may have helped his son Hunter, using his influence as the VP of the United States, in his business in Ukraine. The Biden Camp categorically denied all the allegations.

The story was heavily censored by both Twitter and Facebook and was branded as a piece of fake news. Initially, the report was dismissed as a hoax by Biden-supporting media, but it was eventually confirmed that the laptop’s contents did really belong to Hunter Biden.

Following the restriction of the NYP report, Twitter justified the action by claiming that its policies forbid the sharing of compromised information. After the elections were over and Joe Biden was declared president, it became clear that the NY Post story was indeed true.

Twitter’s former head Jack Dorsey then expressed regret over censoring the story and blocking New York Post from their Twitter account.

NHRC issues notice to Chief Secretary of the Bihar govt after 150 children fall sick after consuming mid-day meal

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, the Bihar government over the reported illness of about 150 children after consuming Mid-Day Meal at a government school in West Champaran.

NHRC, India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that about 150 children fell ill after consuming Mid-Day Meal at a government middle school in the Narval-Barval area of district West Champaran, Bihar on June 1, 2023. The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, amount to the violation of the human rights of the children. Apparently, there was a supervisory lapse on the part of the school authorities due to which food was prepared unhygienically and served to the students. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Bihar calling for a detailed report on the matter within 4 weeks.

It should also include the steps taken or to be taken to ensure that this type of incident shall not recur in the future. The Commission would like to know whether the Government guidelines were being followed by the particular school, if not, then what action has been taken against the officers/officials responsible for the negligence, the NHRC statement said.

According to the media report, carried out on June 2, 2023, the students complained of vomiting and pain in their stomach after consuming the food after which they were taken to the hospital where the doctors opined that food poisoning was the reason for the illness of these students. The parents of the children reportedly protested against the school authorities, the statement added.

Systematic erasure of Tibetan identity: China forcibly seizes lands of Tibetan farmers. An attempt to force assimilation into Han-Chinese-dominated territories?

The situation in Tibet continues to raise concerns, with ongoing uncertainty about China’s intentions as authorities are forcibly seizing property from Tibetan farmers in Rebgong County, Qinghai Province, with an excuse to construct a hydropower dam, according to Tibet Press.

According to Tibet Press, Locals have been warned to cooperate and abandon their land, with the threat that their compensation will be withheld for those who refuse to give their land. The order was issued on May 23, 2023, by Langya village authorities, which are roughly an hour’s drive from Rebgong. It required seven villages in the area to relocate so that the Chinese government could start the first phase of construction ten days after the notice was issued. This dam is one of the major initiatives of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and has a total area of 4.58 million square metres and will cost Yuan 245 million to build.

Rebgong, also called Tongren in Chinese, is a Tibetan-populated area of the Qinghai province of China. It is situated in Malho, sometimes called Huangnan. The reservoir region of the project is home to the Tibetan settlements Shu-Ong-Kye, Shu-Ong-Nyi-tha, Langya, Malpa-Jam, Malpa-Kharnang-Kharshi, and Malpa-Chauwo. It is predicted that the development of the reservoir would start soon. According to Tibet Press, peasants would be compelled to move to towns and cities in search of temporary employment if local officials seized their property.

The policy of rural urbanisation, the forcible relocating of Tibetan nomads and farmers to urban areas, and the ongoing settling of considerable numbers of Han Chinese in Tibet are all examples of China’s efforts to compel the incorporation of Tibetan minorities into the Han-Chinese-dominated majority.

Chinese infrastructure and development projects in Tibet have led to frequent clashes with Tibetans, who accuse Chinese firms and local officials of improperly confiscating land and disrupting the lives of local people, Tibet Press reported.

This issue is not new and traces back to China’s invasion of Tibet in 1951, resulting in a continuous deterioration of Tibetan lives. Ever since the protests in 2008, more than 150 Tibetan monks have self-immolated. The torture, mistreatment and deaths of thousands from Chinese state repression have resulted in repercussions that are felt even today. Note that 87,000 people died when China invaded Tibet in 1951. Countless more have died in the subsequent years and the toll is telling.

The cultural and ethnic identity of Tibet is being erased systematically by China. Today, relatives of Tibetan protestors are routinely harassed, thrown into prison for “re-education” denied political and medical rights, and even killed if deemed to be a threat. The treatment of nomadic herders who lived in Tibet has been even worse. More than a million nomads have been forced to leave the grasslands with a ridiculous plea that this move is meant to protect the ecology of the grasslands, Tibet Press reported.

After two years of living in urban environments, most were forced to abandon their new homes to use them as tourist centres and for government housing. The year 2017 witnessed a state-sponsored forced resettlement wherein Tibetan nomads returned to the grasslands without the animals that were their main means of livelihood. By 2018, Chinese security forces in the region were forcibly promoting “bilingual education” by arresting anyone promoting the Tibetan mother tongue and related issues as an ‘underworld gang crime’.

Following Xi Jimping’s directive to improve security in the region, various organs of the Chinese state including, the Public Security Bureau, the State Security Bureau, the United Front Work Department, the Religious Affairs Bureau, the TAR Internet Affairs Office, and the Internet Management Department jumped to establish political achievements. There is no authentic information about the extent of secret trials being conducted in the region, Tibet Press reported.

With the introduction of cash rewards for spilling the beans on ‘dissidents, cadres at every level of government are making the lives of remaining Tibetans in the region even more difficult. A recent Freedom House report lists Tibet as the worst country to live in the world. Another feature of Chinese rule in Tibet is the political re-education camps.

China has criminalized any form of social activism in the region and is hard at work to try and destroy the influence of any form of traditional leaders at the grassroot levels under the excuse of eradicating ‘mafia-like gangs. There is a massive database of Tibetans in the region wherein anyone affiliated with dissidents is deprived of political rights and access to jobs and healthcare.

Tibet is one of the issues that China remains sensitive about globally. This translates in practice to the United Front Works Department (UFWD) which operates to subvert opposition to the CCP, both within China and overseas. Apart from confusing ethnic minorities on their rights of self-determinism and setting up a false narrative, the UFWD is also active internationally with the objective of co-opting ethnic Chinese individuals and communities abroad, Tibet Press reported.

The spy case against the Overseas China Affairs Office was a prime example of the UFWD in action. The launch of the ‘China Association for Preservation and Development for Tibet Culture’ is an “NGO” that has been set up by the UFWD for the sole purpose of defrauding the world on China’s human rights track record in Tibet. Another institution that is being led by former top CCP officials is the ‘China Society for Human Rights Studies’ which deeply studies foreign human rights in the US as a propaganda tool.

The presence of government-sponsored non-governmental organizations is an obstructionist tact that China is utilizing to establish itself as a paragon of human rights in front of the United Nations.

According to UN sources, more than 23 Chinese NGOs have falsified data in the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (UNCESCR) to defend China’s track record of breaking international treaties and covenants it is party to. The ‘rule of law’ is noticeably absent in China, where there was the infamous 709 crackdown against more than 300 lawyers, paralegals and assistants, Tibet Press reported.

Three years after the whistle-blower Li Wenliang died of Covid, China is still standing firm in maintaining its stance on the pandemic in the international arena. China’s game plan in Tibet become clear from three UN reports released in February 2023. These reports state that nearly one million Tibetan children have been separated from their families and sent to residential schools run by the CCP.

Tibet Press claims that in these schools, Tibetan children are forced to learn Mandarin with a curriculum that teaches them about Chinese culture and are indoctrinated with CCP ideology. In Marc 2023, the UNCESCR expressed concern at China’s “coercive boarding school system and expressed concern over the CCPs attempt to undertake large-scale erasure of Tibetan identity and culture.

There is a clear and present danger to the Tibetan people from the CCP. One way or another, the Communist Party aims to Sinicize all of Tibet and its people.

This being the objective, it is not surprising that the record of their actions makes their intentions crystal clear. The lesson learnt is that Tibetans the world over must unite and rally behind their brethren in Tibet. Unless this happens, China will soon subsume the Tibetan identity within Han China and then it will be too late.

‘Brij Bhushan didn’t sexually harass my daughter, was angry because he was biased against her’: Father of minor wrestler who filed case against WFI president

On 8th June 2023, the father of the minor wrestler who levelled allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India’s chief BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said that he filed a false complaint against the WFI president. He reiterated his statement dated June 5 that he gave before the magistrate in New Delhi.

According to reports, the father of the minor wrestler girl said that though Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh did not sexually harass the girl, he was partial against his daughter. He explained that the accusations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh were made due to intense anger, as his daughter had lost in the final of last year’s trials for the Asian Championship. However, the father of the young wrestler girl clarified that they had not retracted the previous complaint but had provided additional statements.

The girl’s father said, “The entire staff on match duty was from Delhi and the opponent girl also hailed from Delhi, which is illegal… I have changed my statement. Some allegations were true and some were false. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had not sexually harassed my daughter but his approach was biased against her… I had received threatening calls but I will not reveal their names. I had sold my house to bear the expenses of my daughter. Without anyone’s influence, I had re-recorded my statement.”

He further said, “We have no grudge against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. We had recorded fresh statements on June 5 and we changed a few of our earlier statements. I am a father of a girl, and I don’t want to get involved in this fight. I had not withdrawn the complaint but recorded fresh statements. In anger, we had levelled some false allegations, and my daughter had faced some issues but all those mentioned in the FIR were not true.”

The father expressed that their entire family is experiencing depression, and his primary objective is to help his daughter become a champion. Additionally, he mentioned that he and his daughter were recently away from New Delhi, visiting a religious site. Previously, the girl’s uncle had asserted that she is not underage. Subsequently, the Delhi Police initiated a second FIR based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s father.

On May 10, the girl recorded her statement before a magistrate in New Delhi, as per Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc), accusing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The girl’s father claimed that the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) forcibly pulled her towards him and subjected her to sexual harassment, resulting in her severe distress and subsequent health issues.

According to the filed complaint, the girl’s father alleged that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh pressed her shoulder and deliberately slid his hand beneath it. Allegedly, the WFI chief made inappropriate remarks, stating, “If you support me, I will support you. Stay in touch with me.”

Notably, the protesting wrestlers decided to temporarily suspend their agitation until June 15. This decision was made after receiving assurance from the government that a chargesheet would be filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh before that date and that elections for the federation would be held by the end of the month.

Union sports minister Anurag Thakur held a meeting with Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik to address the issue of the ongoing protests. This meeting took place three days after Union home minister Amit Shah met with the wrestlers and discussed their demands. The protesting wrestlers have been demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, whom they have accused of sexually exploiting female wrestlers, including minors.

‘Sikhs in Afghanistan had the faith of coming to India because of CAA’, says EAM Dr S Jaishankar after meeting Sikh refugees from Afghanistan

On 8th June 2023, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the Guru Arjun Dev Gurdwara in Delhi and met Sikh refugees from Afghanistan and listened to their problems. He said that Sikhs in Afghanistan had the faith of returning to India because of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The external affairs minister referred to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) while assuring to address the issue of Sikh refugees. “What would have happened to these people if that law had not been there?” he said.

While speaking to the media after meeting the Sikh refugees from Afghanistan, Dr S Jaishankar said, “I met the Sikhs who came to India from Afghanistan. I came here to listen to the issues they might be facing here. They talked about multiple issues. Some of them expressed the wish to go back because their properties are there. Gurudwaras are also there. The people are worried about them too. We will figure out how can we enable their to and from movement. There are problems regarding visas. Because, nowadays, you know that problem has got its own reasons. People coming from Afghanistan don’t get visas easily.”

Dr S Jaishankar added, “I listened to their problems. I felt that they have a valid case wherein they go back and come here again. They shall get multiple entry visas. Maybe double or triple-entry visas. This is one issue. Among other issues, some of them are waiting to get citizenship in India. There are some other people who – for the sake of their children – have taken citizenship in India but they later faced some problems in that regard. It should not happen that rather than helping them out we end up burdening them in such a situation. This is a very practical thing. But for the common man, even the small things may become a big problem. We should see how can we help them with passports, visas, schools, etc.”

Dr S Jaishankar further said, “If we get per district details, we will be helping them out. We should help them. Because we have even helped out people abroad. Some of them have certain problems. Every problem is unique in its nature. In such a situation, it is our duty to take care of their problems including schooling, citizenship, visas, and all. I am trying to et all the details from the community organisations and we will take this issue ahead.”

Explaining more about the citizenship issue, the minister said, “We have to see who all want to get citizenship and passports. Not every one of them is willing to get citizenship. Some of them have applied for passports. Some others in the group have applied elsewhere. It differs from family to family. They too have all the choices and priorities. We shall also see who all get citizenship and passports according to the laws. It was because of the CAA that these people had the faith to come to India. And it was our duty to bring them here first. Had there been no CAA, what would happen to these people? One must ponder a thought on this. Sometimes people find a political angle in everything. This is not a political issue. This is an issue related to humanity. Who could have left these people in that situation? We have to prove ourselves true to the trust they have shown in us. We should address all their issues in the best ways we can.”

It is notable that the government of India ran Operation Devi Shakti to rescue Sikhs in Afghanistan and bring them to India in 2021 when the Taliban took over the country.

As Congress inches towards legalising cow slaughter and banning Bajrang Dal in Karnataka, they merge Bajrang Sena into the party in Madhya Pradesh

The Hindutva organisation Bajrang Sena merged with Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, raising the political temperature in the state months before the upcoming legislative election. The former alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party had strayed from the right path and had cheated the electorate to gain power in the state.

The merger took place during an event on Tuesday evening at the Congress state office in Bhopal, in the presence of the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee and former chief minister Kamal Nath. He was presented with a mace and other mementoes by Bajrang Sena members, who also raised “Jai Shriram” slogans on the occasion.

A Bhagwa (saffron) rally was held beforehand, with hundreds of young people wearing saffron scarves and waving saffron flags in attendance. Some of them even performed traditional martial art forms to the sounds of drums.

The union of the outfit with the Congress is credited to Deepak Joshi, a former minister who last month defected from the BJP to join the Congress. He reportedly shares a tight relationship with the leaders of the right-wing group.

Bajrang Sena was founded in Chhatarpur in 2013. Raghunandan Sharma, the outfit’s convener, is a founding member of the BJP and has ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The group has a history of supporting the BJP and has been actively involved in cow protection as well as efforts to “unify Hindus by breaking the caste system.” It is also known for protesting on religious and social issues.

The Bajrang Sena’s national president Ranveer Pateria and coordinator Raghunandan Sharma announced the merger in the presence of Deepak Joshi.

According to the former, they have embraced the political philosophy of the Congress as well as the viewpoints of the state party chief wholeheartedly.
Additionally, he stated that they were dedicated to overthrowing the BJP administration, which is known for its treachery, lying, and dishonesty, and establishing a Congress government led by Kamal Nath through the 2023 assembly elections.

Notably, Congress, which is currently cosying up to Bajrang Dal, has a long history of vehemently opposing Hindu nationalist organisations. The party went so far as to pledge to outlaw the Bajrang Dal in their election manifesto during the recent Karnataka assembly election. It attempted damage control with the aid of its senior leaders, including former Karnataka chief minister M. Veerappa Moily and incumbent state party head and deputy chief minister D. K. Shivakumar, after the move resulted in a significant backlash.

Bajrang Dal and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) also delivered a defamation notice to Congress for associating Bajrang Dal with banned terrorist groups and sought Rs. 100 crores in damages.

However, days, after the Congress government was formed in Karnataka, Priyank Kharge, the son of the national president of the Indian National Congress Mallikarjun Kharge and Minister for Social Welfare in the state cabinet, sparked controversy yet again by equating the RSS and Bajrang Dal with the PFI and threatened to ban the two Hindu outfits in the state.

Afterwards, chief minister Siddaramaiah rubbished the claim and clarified that any outfit disrupting social peace and harmony will face harsh punishment and pointed out that the party had not discussed outlawing RSS.

Following that, K Venkatesh, the minister of animal husbandry and veterinary sciences, made a comment about ‘reviewing’ the anti-cow slaughter law brought in by the previous BJP government and legalising the same. He mentioned that the government will discuss it. “If a buffalo can be slaughtered, why not cows,” he argued.

The minister claimed that farmers struggle with the maintenance of old livestock and the disposal of the dead in an effort to further support his assertion. One of the cows that just passed away at his property, he alleged, was difficult to dispose of.

However, senior Congress leader and Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy issued a different statement on the matter. He remarked, “The creator has given no rights to anyone to take life. I am against the killing of any animal. Every animal has a right to life,” while addressing reporters. He also proclaimed that he will share his opinion in the cabinet meeting as well.

Interestingly, on May 23, the newly elected Congress Government in Karnataka received a list of anti-Hindu demands from Amnesty India, a dubious outfit that shut down its office in India when multiple authorities started looking into it for possible Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) breaches.

The Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, was also the subject of a review appeal from the group which called on the administration to permit cow slaughter.

France: Syrian refugee stabs young children playing in a playground, leaves two children critically injured

On Thursday, June 8, a man went on a stabbing spree in Annecy, France, injuring seven people, including six children. The accused, a Syrian asylum seeker, has been apprehended. Though officials have not disclosed the identity of the accused, The Mirror, citing sources, identified the attacker as Abdel Masih H.

The stabbing occurred at a park in Annecy at around 9:45 am (local time), where several children aged three to five were present as part of a school excursion. At least two of the children hurt in the incident are in critical condition.

Annecy is a scenic town in the French Alps close to the border with Switzerland popular with tourists.

Eyewitnesses told French news outlet Le Dauphine that the accused attacked the children while they were playing at a small playground in the French town.

“He wanted to attack everyone. I moved away and he lunged at an old man and woman and stabbed the old man,” NDTV quoted former professional footballer Anthony Le Tallec, who was running in the park, telling the local Dauphine Libere newspaper.

Meanwhile, a video reportedly showing a man fleeing after stabbing five people on Thursday has gone viral. A freelance journalist posted the video, which is gaining popularity on Twitter. The six-second video shows a man in black shorts and a sweatshirt racing through a park while locals chase him. The man is also wearing a cap. In the background, some people can be heard screaming.

French Interior Minister Darmanin, meanwhile, took to Twitter to condemn the incident. “Several people, including six children were injured by an individual armed with a knife in a square in Annecy. The individual was arrested, thanks to the very rapid intervention of the police,” he tweeted.

French President Emmanuel Macron called it an “attack of absolute cowardice”.

“The nation is shocked. Our thoughts are with (the victims) as well as their families and the emergency services,” he tweeted.

“Nothing more abominable than to attack children,” French national assembly speaker Yael Braun-Pivet said on Twitter.

The French parliament observed a minute of silence to mark the incident and roads are blocked around the scene of the attack.

A police spokesman, meanwhile, informed that the attacker was a 31-year-old Syrian asylum seeker who carried Swedish identity documents and a Swedish driving license. He entered France legally and was not known to security agencies.

His motives were unknown, according to an investigative source, who added that anti-terrorism officials had not been asked to lead the inquiry at this point.

According to reports, the accused had entered France illegally. According to The Telegraph UK, the individual applied for asylum at the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (Ofpra) on November 28, 2022. On April 26, 2023, the accused claimed to have gained refugee status in Sweden. As a result, his appeal for asylum in France was futile because he was lawful under EU law, according to the French news source Libération.
