Ludhiana Police arrest Influencer Jasneet Kaur, book Youth Congress leader Lucky Sandhu for blackmailing SAD leader’s son

On Monday, April 3, Ludhiana Police arrested Instagram Influencer Jasneet Kaur alias Rajvir Kaur in connection with blackmailing and extortion after she was accused of honey-trapping a businessman named Gurbir Singh. The police have also arrested Jasneet Kaur’s accomplice and a Youth Congress leader Lucky Sandhu from Sahnewal.

The assistant commissioner of police, Ludhiana (West), Jasroop Kaur Batth confirming the arrest of Jasneet Kaur said that the police has received a complaint from a local businessman regarding the alleged blackmailing by the accused. He also added that the accused was allegedly in touch with some gangsters who threaten the victims. We are verifying the allegations,” Batth said.

The police also informed that the case against the accused Instagram influencer was registered on April 1 at the Model Town police station in Ludhiana based on the complaint lodged by Gurbir Singh under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. Gurbir’s father was reportedly a former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor. The police have also seized a BMW car and a mobile phone.

Notably, in September 2022, accused Jasneet Kaur who is from Punjab’s Sangrur had attempted to extort Rs 2 crore from Gurbir Singh by threatening to make their conversation public. The deal was reportedly fixed at Rs 35 lakh. After getting Rs 1 lakh, when Jasneet Kaur and her accomplice Sohanpal ‘Ratanveer Singh’ met Gurbir to collect the remaining cash, the Kharar Police arrested them.

Complainant Gurbir Singh said that on November 16, 2022, he received WhatsApp calls from an unknown number. In addition to attempting to extort money from him, the accused also made threats to harm him and his family.

On January 19, after carrying out an investigation at a personal level and learning that two of Jasneet’s aides were threatening him, he filed a police complaint.

Kaur was presented before a court, which remanded her to police custody for two days.

Speaking about the pattern in which Jasneet extorts money from the victims, the police said that Jasneet Kaur would first develop friendships with her targets on social media, particularly rich men, and then record their conversations before demanding money. She allegedly threatened the victims with the support of gangsters.

Model Town police station SHO Sub-Inspector Gurshinder Kaur said that searches are being conducted to arrest Lucky Sandhu.

Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Telangana BJP chief detained by police, read details

Telangana BJP president and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar was detained after midnight on Wednesday from his residence in Karimnagar ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.

Reportedly, a team of police reached the MP’s residence in Karimnagar and took him into custody. This created a tense atmosphere as Bandi Sanjay’s supporters and party workers tried to stop the police.

Bandi Sanjay could be seen being dragged by policemen and later made to sit inside a police van.

Reportedly, he was taken to Bommala Ramaram police station in Nalgaunda district.

More details on the police action are awaited.

BJP State General Secretary Premender Reddy said, “BJP state president Bandi Sanjay was detained by police past midnight. He has been held from his residence in Karimnagar illegally.”

“They should have initiated any legal process in the morning, where would Bandi Sanjay go? This is nothing but to disturb PM Modi’s programme in Telangana,” Reddy alleged.

“What was the need for this action against a Member of Parliament at midnight? What are the crime and case? They are not telling us anything. He is being taken to Bhongir. Why is he being taken there?” Reddy further questioned.

“The reason behind this action is that we are raising our voice against the KCR government over the question paper leak case. This is all against the ‘Democracy’,” he alleged.

Telangana BJP leaders following the detention of Bandi Sanjay said that a state-wide protest would be launched.

“We are planning to do a state-wide protest against the police action against the BJP State President,” added Reddy.

PM Modi is scheduled to visit Telangana on April 8 to inaugurate Vande Bharat Express train from Secunderabad to Tirupati along with launching various other developmental projects.

Many pictures and videos of this program have been going viral on social media in recent days. Amidst all this, a video of Bollywood actor Salman Khan from a previous Ambani family function has also gone viral. In this video, Salman can be seen in the role of background dancer behind industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani.

The viral video is from 2018 from the Sangeet ceremony of Isha Ambani. In the five-year-old video, Salman Khan poses as Anant Ambani’s background dancer while Anant performs on the ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ song from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Muslim boys were making bombs for self-defence: RJD MLA Nehaluddin

Following the bomb explosion in Sasaram that left 6 injured, RJD MLA Mohammad Nehaluddin has made a bizarre comment while saying that the Muslim boys were making bombs for their own safety.

The RJD MLA from Rafiganj Assembly Constituency said that some members belonging to the Muslim community were making bombs in self-defence. The MLA said, “What would they have done if they had died? Muslim children had to do this to save their lives. They had to do this in self-defence.”

The RJD MLA blamed center for the violence in the state and said that BJP is doing it to win the 40 Lok Sabha seats from Bihar.

Notably, following the violence during the Ram Navami Shobhayatra in Sasaram, the news of the bomb blast came to the fore. In Sasaram in Rohtas, six people were injured in a bomb blast in the Sherganj locality late evening on 1st April. The Bihar police, however, have claimed that it was not an incident of communal violence. Bihar Police said that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was sent to the spot to investigate the matter after receiving information about the incident of a bomb blast in Sasaram of Rohtas. “The blast was reported at a shanty and a scooty has been recovered from the area. Prima facie it does not appear to be a communal incident,” the police said.

News of another bomb blast also surfaced on Monday (April 3, 2023). However, the Bihar Police denied it outright and said that it was the sound of a firecracker. Police have said that at around 5 AM, some unknown person burst crackers on the outer wall of Mannauvar Raine’s house in Mochi Tola, about 3 KMs from Sasaram police station, this spread the rumour of a bomb blast among the people present there.

During the Ram Navami Shobhayatra, violence started in Bihar Sharif of Nalanda district and Sasaram of Rohtas district of Bihar. In many places, news ranging from arson to firing had come to the fore. According to the reports to date, Bihar Police has arrested over 100 people involved in the violence.

‘Mob brought petrol bombs, burnt our shops’: Hindu victims of Ram Navami violence in Bihar Sharif share their ordeal with media

While people celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Ram, communal violence convulsed many parts of the country. The Nalanda district of Bihar was also engulfed in this destructive blaze of violence. According to reports from the victims, a religious mob in Nalanda’s Bihar Sharif set fire to Hindu shops and their warehouses, causing extensive damage.

TV9 has reported on violent incidents and arson that occurred near Sogra College in Biharsharif. In the video footage, it is visible that several Hindu-owned shops have been burned to the ground. During an interview with TV9, a man named Umesh Prasad Goswami stated that ten of his shops were damaged, with goods being looted and set on fire. When asked about the extent of the loss, Umesh stated that his property, valued at crores of rupees, had been destroyed. Another individual also reported that initially his shop was ransacked, following which the gate was broken and set on fire.

The wholesale bookshop situated across from Umesh Kumar’s shop has also suffered a similar fate. It too was set on fire. The affected parties have reported that the fire brigade arrived two to three hours after their shops caught fire. By then, much of the damage had already been done. The people affected have claimed that they repeatedly pleaded with the authorities to send the fire brigade earlier, but the response was not timely.

According to a victim, the entire incident was carried out by a group of approximately 50 to 60 individuals who were armed with petrol bombs. These bombs were set alight and thrown into shops and warehouses. The proprietor of a pipe shop stated that the pipes kept in one area of the shop managed to survive, but everything else was reduced to ashes. Those affected by the arson allege that the police administration was absent from the scene in Bihar Sharif when the incident took place.

He also stated that the police’s absence from the scene gave the perpetrators ample time to carry out the robbery. The shop stocked stationery items and had an office on the premises. The mob set fire to everything. The affected parties reported that upon receiving news of the fire, they went to the police station seeking help but received no response. By the time the police arrived at the scene, everything had already been destroyed.

What’s noteworthy in this video is that when people informed a TV9 reporter that a temple had also been set on fire, the reporter waved his hand and said, “No, no, don’t show it.” This begs the question, if the mob did indeed set fire to the temple, then what was the problem in reporting the incident and bringing it to the world’s attention? While we cannot confirm the claims, as victims have made these allegations, they warrant investigation.

Regarding the entire incident, Nalanda DM Shashank Shubhankar has stated that he is inspecting the affected areas. The culprits are being identified through CCTV, DVR, drone, and videography footage. So far, 27 individuals have been arrested, and continuous raids are underway. Action will be taken against all those involved. During the violence, firing took place, and some people were hit by shrapnel, resulting in injuries for over 20 people.

It is a lie, chapters on Mughals history not removed: NCERT director refutes media reports

Several media reports had widely speculated that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has amended its publications, notably the 12th-class History book, and removed certain chapters on the Mughal empire. After the rumour gained traction, the director of NCERT Dinesh Prasad Saklani addressed the issue and refuted the claims that were being spread by various news outlets.

The NCERT director told ANI that the chapters on the Mughals had not been removed. He stated that only the overlapping chapters had been dropped, alleviating the additional strain on children’s shoulders.

“It’s a lie. (Chapters on) Mughals have not been dropped. There was a rationalisation process last year because due to COVID, there was pressure on students everywhere”, he said.

Calling the debate unnecessary, the NCERT director said the expert committee recommended that if the chapter was dropped, it will not affect the knowledge of the children and an unnecessary burden can be removed. “The debate is unnecessary. Those who don’t know can check the textbooks…”, Saklani added.

“We are working as per NEP (National Education Policy) 2020. This is a transition phase. NEP 2020 speaks of reducing the content load. We are implementing it. NCF (National Curriculum Framework) for school education is being formed, it will be finalised soon. Textbooks will be printed in 2024 as per NEP. We have not dropped anything right now”, the NCERT chief added.

Saklani asserted that there are no new books and that the revisions made last year, which the advisory body justified at length last year, will continue this academic year as well. “A process was adopted, which was totally professional,” he added.

OpIndia reported earlier in the day how the mainstream media widely speculated that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has amended its publications, notably the 12th-class History book, by removing certain chapters on the Mughal empire.

Though until that time, there was no official confirmation from NCERT about the news, it was amusing to see, how, as soon as this rumour gained traction, several so-called liberals and Islamists rushed to Twitter to either mock the Rajputs, who had actually started the resistance to Mughal brutalities in India.

‘Trying to learn Hindi and English in my own humble way’: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma gives a befitting reply to an elitist Congress troll

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has always been known for his sharp remarks and unapologetic demeanour. Therefore, when an elitist Congress troll tried to mock him over a video, the Assam CM did not hold back to give a befitting riposte.

In a recent Twitter interaction between a Congress-affiliated troll and the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the latter shut down the troll in a humble yet firm manner. The troll had posted a video of Sarma where he was seen writing his remarks in the visitor’s book by looking at a piece of paper that contained a pre-written note.

The video was posted with a snarky comment implying that Sarma was not capable of writing his own remarks and needed to rely on a pre-written note.

However, Sarma did not take the insult lying down and responded with grace and humility. In a tweet, he said, “I went to an Assamese medium school and am trying my best to learn Hindi and English in my own humble way. I must admit that I do not know English and Hindi very well, and I have no hesitation in admitting it.”

The Congress troll posted the video and said “Presenting the CM of Assam who can’t even write a paragraph in a visitor’s book without copying”

Sarma’s response has met with applause and admiration on social media, with many praising him for his honesty and humility. In a political climate where politicians are often criticized for being too polished and rehearsed, Sarma’s admission of his limitations was refreshing and admirable.

This incident once again highlights the importance of being respectful and civil on social media, especially in the political arena. While political differences may exist, it is important to maintain a level of dignity and respect in one’s discourse. Sarma’s response serves as a reminder that one can be firm and assertive without resorting to insults and personal attacks.

As for the troll, his attempt to smear Sarma’s reputation backfired, and he was left looking petty and betrayed his party’s elitist mindset that looks down on those who are not privileged enough to be proficient in multiple languages. The incident has once again demonstrated that in politics, as in life, honesty and humility will always win the day.

The woman leader, who has made these allegations, is a resident of Bemetara. Jayant Sahu and the woman leader became friends on Facebook some time ago, and following that, she started coming to Raipur.

She said that Jayant wanted to have a physical relationship with her. Some time ago, she also posted a social media post against Jayant on Facebook. In this post, the female leader claimed that Jayant Sahu’s favourite work is to give positions to women and instead use them. The woman has told that she has now informed the SSP about all the facts.

The woman has further claimed that the Police are also not taking any action in her case because of Jayant’s influence. She further claims that the police have been harassing her a lot, and there was no way left for her. “I am thinking of going to the police station and committing suicide by pouring kerosene on myself”, the woman has been quoted as saying in a report published in Dainik Bhaskar.

On the other hand, Jayant Sahu claims that the woman has borrowed some money from him and is now blackmailing her. He claims that she is making such baseless allegations so that she does not have to return the money. Jayant said that a few days ago, he had gone out, then the woman came to his house and took 2 lakhs from his wife. A complaint has already been made on behalf of Jayant at the police station on March 14.

Jayant has claimed that the woman is producing fake chats to spread false information about him and to tarnish his public image.

An FIR has already been registered against the woman at Telibandha police station. The woman claims that her side is not being heard, according to police sources, now the matter will be interrogated afresh and the facts being presented by the woman will be examined.

New Yorker journalist attacks chief of Hindu American Foundation on Twitter, gets called out by Netizens for his racist and Hinduphobic comment

On Tuesday, April 4, Isaac Chotiner, a staff writer at The New Yorker, launched an unprovoked attack on Suhag A Shukla, co-founder and executive director of advocacy organisation Hindu American Foundation after the foundation posted a message congratulating Shukla on being honoured by the US health secretary. Netizens, however, were quick to condemn the author for his flagrant display of Hinduphobia and racism while criticising Shulka.

On March 30, Hindu American Foundation posted a congratulatory Tweet for Suhag A Shukla for being among 15 women faith leaders who were honoured by US secretary of health and human services Xavier Becerra for “demonstrating extraordinary leadership on behalf of humanity”.

Responding to this tweet, The New Yorker journalist Isaac Chotiner tweeted, “I would personally be fine if Biden cabinet officials didn’t “celebrate” sinister sectarians.”

Many Netizens reacted to Isaac Chotiner’s tweet criticising the Hindu outfit’s chief, which they believed was motivated by Chotiner’s obvious bias against Hindus.

Miffed by the anti-Hindu mindset of Isaac Chotiner, twitter user @ChakraNews wrote, “Stop your bigotry and hinduphobia. Looks like @SuhagAShukla got a few tweets of rape and hate threats after you shared this tweet. Primarily from abrahamic faith supremacists who see hindus as 2nd class pagans. Please explain what you mean by sectarian sinister? How so?”

“Wow – your hate shows up against @SuhagAShukla and Hindus. You ought to know better that hate has no moral justification to it!” wrote Vibhuti, Jain lambasting The New Yorker writer for his vile tweet against Shukla.

Several other Twitter users slammed the journalist for his blatant display of hate against Hindus.

Disgusted by the outright anti-Hindu prejudice, another Twitter user chastised The New York Times for fostering such racism within their organisation. “Systemic racism and white supremacy persist in media despite efforts to combat it, seen in discriminatory hiring and denigration of women of colour by white men journalists. Intersectionality of racism, sexism and power dynamics at play, reinforces racial hierarchy. @newyorker,” tweeted @DhanpatiKubera.

Notably, Suhag A Shukla, co-founder and executive director of advocacy organisation Hindu American Foundation also responded to Isaac Chotiner’s tweet. “If I’m going to be trolled by a New Yorker staff writer, is it too much to ask that he not retreat to overused Irish alliteration? “Sinister sectarian”? Really, Isaac. But at least he didn’t assign me a caste as the New Yorker does to all Hindus of late. Small mercies.

The New Yorker correspondent’s Hinduphobic statement is unsurprising given that the publication often provides platforms to those who peddle rampant misinformation against India and Prime Minister Modi. Dexter Filkins’ 2019 anti-Modi report for The New Yorker was an example of this.

Ram Navami violence: MHA seeks a detailed report from the West Bengal government over communal clash in Howrah

0

Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report from the West Bengal government on violence that broke out between two groups when a Ram Navami procession was taken out in Howrah city last week.

As per top government sources, the West Bengal government has been asked to submit the report as soon as possible. The MHA’s move comes after West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday wrote a second letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah over violence in the state during Ram Navami celebrations and sought his immediate intervention.

That was Majumdar’s second letter to Shah regarding the violence in Bengal in less than a week.

“In continuation to my earlier letter dated March 31 regarding the communal attack on the processions of Ram Navami in Howrah and Dalkhola, it is further informed that the attack has not yet been stopped and is occurring in different parts of West Bengal,” Majumdar wrote in his letter to Shah.

He said another attack was made on the Ram Navami procession at Rishra in Hooghly district on Sunday where BJP MP and All India Vice President Dilip Ghosh was participating.

“Along with the Ram Bhaktas he too was attacked by stone pelting. His vehicle was torched and incidents of arson happened as police stood still as mere spectators which strengthens our allegations that there is definite support from the ruling party TMC and section of the administration led by Mamata Banerjee who has already issued several statements in favour of the miscreants belonging to the minority community,” Majumdar said.

“In view of the deteriorating law and order situation, we immediately seek your kind intervention as per law so that the situation does not go out of control and lives and properties of ordinary citizens are saved,” he added.

Shah on Sunday also spoke to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and took stock of the situation.

In the telephonic conversation with Bose, the Home Minister had also taken detailed information of the incident that led to violence in Howrah city, where several vehicles were torched and shops were ransacked on Thursday evening.

State Police had said a number of people were detained in this connection with the violence that reportedly erupted when the Ram Navami procession was passing through the Kazipara locality in Howrah city.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured strict action against the perpetrators of the violence and asserted that the usage of an unauthorised route led to the clash.

The BJP has attacked Banerjee for the violence.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee on Friday said that the lives of Hindus in the state were “under threat”.

The BJP MP accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of appeasement politics and demanded her resignation.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur also condemned the violence in West Bengal.

The situation turned violent in the Shibpur area of Howrah on Friday. Fresh violence broke out on Friday a day after arson on ‘Ram Navami’.
