Over 17.5 lakh WhatsApp accounts banned in India in November mostly for spamming, reveals compliance report under IT Rules 2021

WhatsApp is reported to have banned 17.59 lakh Indian accounts in the month of November under IT Rules 2021, according to a compliance report submitted by the company. It also received 602 grievance complaints from India in the same month and took action on 36 of them. Taking action means either suspending an account or restoring a previously banned account as a result of the complaint. The firm has issued its sixth monthly report for November in compliance with the IT Rules 2021.

The company stated that more than 95% of bans are due to the unauthorized use of automated messages or spam. In a similar move, over 20 lakh Indian accounts were banned, while 500 grievance reports were received by the messaging platform in October. The company informed that Indian accounts are identified by +91 phone numbers used to register on the messaging platform.

An official statement by a WhatsApp spokesperson said, ‘In accordance with the IT Rules 2021, we’ve published our sixth monthly report for the month of November. This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform.’

“WhatsApp is an industry leader in preventing abuse, among end-to-end encrypted messaging services. Over the years, we have consistently invested in Artificial Intelligence and other state-of-the-art technology, data scientists and experts, and in processes, in order to keep our users safe on our platform,” the spokesperson further added.

The Meta-owned company has reiterated that it is striving to ensure more transparency to its work and include more information about its endeavours in future reports. Mollifying privacy concerns of its users, WhatsApp had said that being an end-to-end encrypted platform, it has no visibility into the content of any messages.

WhatsApp informed that among the 602 grievance complaints received during November 2021, 149 were for account support, 357 for ban appeal, 21 for other support, 48 for product support and 27 were for safety. From these complaints, actions were taken against 36 accounts under the ban appeal category. The company explained that action taken in this regard means banning accounts or restoring already banned accounts.

Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021

The new IT Rules 2021, which were notified in February and came into effect in May, require large social media platforms (with over 50 lakh users) to publish compliance reports every month, giving the details of complaints received and action taken. The IT Rules 2021 seek to address the concerns of the citizens without infringing on their privacy and personal liberties, while maintaining digital sovereignty at the same time.

No more spoilsports of the mafias in UP, India to follow the path led by its youth: PM Modi gives new mantra from Meerut

On 2nd January 2022, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut. While addressing a public meeting on this occasion, he said that there will be no more spoilsports of the goons and mafias in UP as it used to be earlier under the non-BJP government. Giving his new mantra from Meerut, Modi asserted that India is ready to lead its path in the same direction the youth of the country wishes to move ahead.

As PM Modi, who is on his tour to inaugurate and to lay foundations stones of various developmental projects ahead of the upcoming UP elections, visited Meerut, he was accompanied by the state chief minister Yogi Adityanath. In his address to the public of Meerut, Narendra Modi touched various topics without sparing any opportunity to mark the differences seen between the UP under BJP’s rule and the state when it was ruled by non-BJP governments.

Head on attack on the Gundaraj that prevailed in UP

As Narendra Modi started off his address with glorified mentions of Meerut and the contributions of the nearby area to the nation for centuries, he also underlined the situations under the rule of non-BJP parties reminding the exodus of the local people who were fed up with the mafias and goons. PM Modi said that earlier there used to be altogether different games that were played with the common men of UP. There were spoilsports of normal life and mafias and goons used to badger bait the masses, but now the times are changed. The BJP government has ended that era and will not allow it to happen again.

Focus for success

Modi further said, “As we today lay the foundation stone to the sports university named after Major Dhyan Chand, we must not forget the message encrypted in his name itself. For any sportsman to achieve excellence and success in his game, Dhyan that is focus is absolutely necessary.” He also added that ‘path taken by the wise men is the one to be followed’ has been a traditional saying we know. But in this era, the path taken by the youth of the country must be the one to be followed. For a brighter future, India must follow the path led by its youth.

Restoring the respect towards sports and players

Modi, on this occasion, also reminded the sports culture India had since ancient times and how sportsmen were respected and encouraged by society as a part of our tradition. He said, “Then there came the times when people started giving derogatory looks to any player passing by. It was being taken for granted that if someone plays some sports or is a player of some particular game, he must be continuing it to secure a post either in the army or in police forces. But after BJP took over the reins of the state and the country, our governments have worked hard to change this public perception that had erupted in the regime of earlier governments. Our players are our pride and we are committed to providing world-class training facilities to them.”

Commitment to enhance sports culture and allied economy

Enlisting various initiatives by the government to enhance sports culture in India, Modi further said, “Providing proper infrastructure is extremely important in order to improve sports culture of the nation and we are building the same. Sports bring with them altogether different opportunities for the local economy which can also be escalated to global levels like Meerut has done. Therefore even in new education policy, we are putting sports on similar priorities as other regular subjects. It is noteworthy that the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University to be built at Meerut is a state of the art project which will cost almost 700 crore rupees. Its area is around 91 acres and it houses training facilities for a range of indoor and outdoor games.

If boys commit any mistake, government must correct it rather than shielding

Uttar Pradesh is heating up as the elections in the state are about to be held. Modi also took this opportunity to attack his political opponents in the state. He said that the government is as good as the parents of the boys and it must behave as responsibly as parents. Modi added, “If boys commit any mistake, the government must correct it rather than shield it by saying ‘Ladkon se to galti ho jati hai’.” This was clearly aimed towards Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party who had once said so while reacting about a rape case.

A section of journalists, activists and politicians in the Opposition had stirred up a controversy last year, alleging that they are being targeted under the Israeli Spyware.

Yogi Adityanath govt emerges as champion of welfare schemes for holistic social upliftment of Dalits

While tracing back Dalit politics in Uttar Pradesh, one often finds it marked by perpetual monetary handouts before elections, announcements for beneficial schemes particular to the lower strata, incitement against the so-called upper castes to mobilize the Dalits and so on. The race among politicians to call themselves to real ‘Masiha’ of Dalits continued – much vociferously after the Mandal Commission reports of 1980. But one would rather argue that today, Dalit Politics – much like the society – is going through a churn.

In the book ‘Makers of Modern Dalit History’ authored by BJP leader Guru Prakash Paswan and Sudarshan Ramabadran, while discussing Dalit assertion to seek representation, they write, “(Dalit Youths) are silently striving to be something big that really helps people, and not just of their own community but of their entire nation.” Instead of playing the cards of Identity politics, UP CM Yogi Aditynath is walking the talk for Dalit representation in commerce and industry.

Association with DICCI

The Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – a group of entrepreneurs committed to becoming ‘Job-givers’ – has patterned with Yogi Adityanath-led UP Government on many levels. In an interview with Prof. Abhinav Prakash on his youtube channel, Shashank Kunwar, Director of DICCI Uttar Pradesh talked in length about the steps taken by Yogi Adityanath for the overall upliftment of the community. The BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh has not only charted out successful welfare programmes that benefit Dalits directly but have come up with inventive ways to encourage youth and women to take up entrepreneurship and employment on policy levels.

Kunwar mentions the One-Table policy charted out on an administerial level when Dalit youths approach the government for assistance in businesses. As India’s overall position in ease of doing business improves, a decrease in bureaucratic hassles helps in overall economic upliftment. Kunwar highlights that the partnership of DICCI with the UP govt is based on affirmative action. Being a successful entrepreneur himself, he is also part of the three-member committee formed in 2020 formed to draft policies to promote SC/ST entrepreneurs.

Center-State Colloboration

The effective rollout of Central govt. policies in Uttar Pradesh has been the hallmark of Yogi in giving a development-led administration. The Stand-Up India scheme intended to boast SC/ST and Female participation in Commerce has seen much success in UP. Alone in 2021, the credit requirement increased 29% in terms of applications, despite the pandemic. The Stand-Up India scheme enables banks to grant credit from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore to at least one SC/ST borrower and at least one woman borrower for setting up their ventures.

Shashank Kunwar, in the interview, talked of travelling to at least 55 districts across UP to encourage youths to take entrepreneurship. Out of a select 200 beneficiaries, 50% were women. While launching the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swarojgar Yojana’ in June 2020, the CM transferred Rs. 17.42 Crore to 3,484 people as assistance money to set up local businesses. Apart from this, collaborations with the Central MSME ministry under the SCs/STs Hub Scheme have brought breakthrough results.

Welfare schemes as a foundational block

Welfare schemes are a feature of holistic social upliftment in the Modi-Era, while Yogi Adityanth is championing the same in his own state. A big chunk of beneficiaries of these schemes is SCs and STs since Dalits accord to nearly 20% of UP’s overall population. From 2014-2019 alone, 9.16 crore toilets had been built under the Swacch Bharat Yojana. The effective rollout of PMJAY and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana continued to the overall socio-economic upheaval. Out of 8.85 crore homes built, 6.5 crores alone were built for Dalits. It is important to note that social development carved out by welfare schemes will serve as a foundational block for entrepreneurial aspiration among the lower rungs of society.

Important to highlight is the feeling of ownership for Public infrastructure cultivated among the Dalits. Much work has been done for increasing the participation of Dalits in the process of development as they get direct recruitment as contractors, labour, etc. Recently, An Exhibition-cum-trade-fair was organised by the UP govt. in Varanasi with support of DICCI, Department of MSME and National SC/ST Hub.

“Economic equality becomes the basis of social equality. “The society with one of its sections becoming strong while another remaining weak will not be able to become self-reliant. It is necessary that there is a balance in the society and this balance should be at the economic level” said Yogi Adityanath while launching employment schemes for SC/ST in 2019. The commitment for social progress to be crafted through economic empowerment is equally clear through his thoughts and actions.

Taliban orders beheading of clothes shop mannequins because they are “sinful idols” and violate Sharia laws

The Taliban has ordered to behead mannequins used in clothes shops, citing their use as a violation of Sharia Law. The statement came from the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice which said “All the statues and mannequins in your stores must be headless.”

According to the Taliban, the display of Mannequins accounts for Idol worship which is banned in Islam. The Taliban officials have ruled that the mannequins are ‘sinful idols’, and therefore they have to be beheaded.

The worshipping of idols is considered a sin in Islam, and radical Islamist groups like Taliban, ISIS etc enforce this rule very strictly.

Initially, the ministry had ordered the shopkeepers to only remove the dummies, but after shopkeepers refused to do so saying that it will hurt their business, the Taliban authorities issued the new beheading order. As shopkeepers had initially criticized the Taliban’s earlier move to ban mannequins and complained against the order, Sheikh Aziz-u-Rahman who heads the ministry ordered to behead the dummies instead.

Businessman Abdul Wadood Faiz Zada in an interview to Italian newspaper Repubblica said, “Each mannequin costs $100, or $80 or $70, and beheading them will be a huge financial loss.”

While Afghanistan continues to be under serious economic crisis, The Taliban is in no mood to stop their crackdown exercises in the name of Islam.

Popular Modi hating Instagram account ‘F*ckBJP’ comes undone, accused of abuse and harassment

On January 1, the owner of the propaganda Instagram account f*ckBJP has been accused of emotional abuse by at least three women. f*ckBJP is “popular” for its anti-BJP, anti-Modi posts and has over 90,000 followers on Instagram.

Three women levelled accusation of emotional abuse against anti-Modi Insta account f*ckBJP. Source: Twitter

A Twitter user Harpuneet Kaur (thepunkaur), stated in a tweet that she came to know f*ckbjp had emotionally abused multiple women. She wrote, “he has used their vulnerability for sexually pleasures then, ghosted & gaslighted them.” She further added that three women had shared their testimonies about him and asked her to publicly inform others about his behaviour in public.

The testimonies against f*ckBJP

Testimony 1

The first woman who shared her experience said she started interacting with the account when she was going through a traumatizing event in her life. Initially, he offered emotional support and showed he was a sensitive person, only to make sexual moves a few days later. She reciprocated in a positive way as “he was there for her when she was traumatized”.

Testimony 1. Source: Twitter

She alleged his behaviour changed quickly and started to trivialize her trauma. He would raise his voice if she ever mentioned her problems. She said, “I had clearly communicated my emotional needs, and he was okay with it. However, he would ghost me in conversations where I was being vulnerable to hum about my past trauma, self hard and near suicide attempt.”

When she confronted him, he told her she was not entitled to his time. When she blocked him, he would contact her using other IDs or on other social media platforms, asking her if she blocked him. She accused him of lying about associations with groups who wanted to harm her and asked her to cut off online and real-life friends.

Testimony 1. Source: Twitter

She said, “My experience with f*ckBJP has traumatized me beyond measure, to say at least. His behaviour towards me, as I would like to call it now, was emotionally abusive, manipulative and problematic.”

Testimony 2

The second woman’s story was on similar lines. The conversation between them was very friends at the initial stage. It allowed her to open up about her insecurities. Down the line, she noticed some red flags like casteist slurs that he used, but she chose to ignore them. Their conversation went to the point where he initiated sexting.

Testimony 2. Source: Twitter

He allegedly lured the victim into sending private photographs on the pretext of making her comfortable about her body image issues. His behaviour would change frequently. Some days he would bombard her with relationship text. On the other days, he would ghost her, she said. Ghosting is a situation where the person stops all form of communication with another person ‘like a ghost’ so to say.

In the end, she decided to end things with him. Sometime later, he again got in touch with her and started gaslighting her insecurities.

Testimony 3

The third woman said he lied to her about his age. She alleged he had lied about his age to multiple women. She said as there was a considerable age gap between f*ckbjp’s owner and her, she would see it as a grooming attempt. He allegedly pushed her to send her pictures. Though she denied permission to save the images, he still did.

Testimony 3. Source: Twitter

Like the other women, she also accused him of changing his behaviour quickly. She said, “He would go from love-bombing to getting hostile and ghosting real quick, basically giving me no time to figure stuff out.”

She further said, “In general, he was such a shitty person. I don’t know why people don’t see through him because even his posts have indirect casteist and islamophobic jeers. He should not have been put on that pedestal.”

The darkest side of the so-called liberal gang

In the past, there have been multiple cases where the so-called liberal and ‘feminist’ men have been accused of emotional and sexual assault on women. In April 2021, women came forward and levelled sexual assault accusations against four activists that were leading farmer protests. The allegations started with a post against one Mohammad Zuber (_emmzedd on Instagram) and opened a Pandora’s Box of many such allegations on other alleged activists. Other prominent activists who have been named so far are Varun Chouhan (member of Trolly Times), Antarpreet Singh (leader of Students For Society) and Manish Kumar (President, Swaraj For Youth).

Congress makes false allegations that new tax imposed for ordering food online, here is the truth

Congress party is trying to spread misleading information about the GST for online food order and delivery companies like Zomato and Swiggy, after new rules regarding this came into effect from 1st January. In a tweet from its official handle posted on 2nd January 2022, the Congress party has claimed that the Indians will have to pay extra charges for ordering the food online. It further posed a question asking is this the new year’s gift that the Modi government is offering to the people.

From this tweet, congress is trying to imply that with the implementation of the new rule, customers ordering the food from delivery services like Zomato or Swiggy will have to pay an extra five per cent GST to compensate for the tax to be paid by the food supplying restaurant. Zomato and Swiggy already come under the eighteen per cent slab of the GST and the congress party is trying to mislead the people by implying that with the new rule, the consumers will have to bear the burden of an additional five percent GST added to the earlier eighteen, thereby indicating a probable hike in the prices of ordering the food online. But this is not the case.

Know the actual decision

In the 45th GST Council meeting held on 17th September 2021, it was decided that the restaurants that don’t pay the taxes on the online orders they get from such platforms must be cracked down. It was found that while the food delivery services are already collecting the 5% tax on the services that they provide, they were passing it to the restaurant along with the rest of the bill, and the restaurants were expected to deposit this 5% with the govt. But some restaurants were not doing this and evading the tax.

To ensure that the government receives the tax which is otherwise evaded, it was decided that the online ordering and delivery platforms should pay the five percent GST on the delivery directly to the government. This way, the government has not burdened the pockets of the common customer but has just changed the route to collect the GST in order to ensure maximum tax compliance.

With the new rules, food delivery platforms are expected to pay 5% GST on restaurant services that they provide directly. Previously, the restaurants had collected it and deposited the tax to the government, but some of them were evading this. Therefore, now the delivery platforms will be responsible for paying the tax to the taxmen. As the delivery services are already collecting the 5% GST, they don’t need to collect any additional tax from customers are the Congress Party is alleging.

While there is no change for customers, the floor delivery companies will have to set up systems to deduct the 5% GST from the payments made to the restaurants and will be responsible for depositing the same with the govt.

Assurance by the finance minister

The finance ministry has already clarified that the customers availing the online food delivery services need not pay any new tax. The five percent GST to be collected from the food supplying restaurants will only be deposited by a different route than before. While announcing the change in rules in September, Union finance minister Nirmala Seetharaman had said that the food delivery platforms will have to pay GST on restaurant service. “There is no new tax,” she had clarified.

“The sum and substance of what is agreed, is the place where the food is delivered will be the point on which the tax will be collected by the gig groups, Swiggy and others, and they will therefore pay up GST on it,” finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said explaining the new system.

SIT constituted to investigate alleged hate speech at Haridwar Dharma Sansad, case filed against Yati Narasimhanand and Sagar Sindhuraj

Two weeks after allegations of hate speech surfaced against the 3-day ‘Dharma Sansad’ event held in Haridwar, a 5-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the Uttarakhand govt to probe the accusations made in the case.

While speaking to news agency ANI, DIG Karan Singh Nagnyal informed, “A 5-member SIT has been constituted under an SP-level officer to probe the matter of the Dharma Sansad hate speech case in Haridwar. Legal action to be taken against those found guilty.”

Section 295A has been included in the FIR.”

Police action in the Dharma Sansad case

It may be recalled that a day after speeches of leaders like Yati Narsinghanand and other Hindu leaders went viral, an FIR was filed in Uttarakhand over the speeches that called upon Hindus to collect arms. The speeches were deemed as provocative and social media was rife with Leftists and Islamists claiming that the speeches called for a Muslim genocide.

Ashok Kumar, DGP, said the police had received a complaint and filed an FIR under Section 153A of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) related to the statements made at the recent Dharam Sansad event in Haridwar. The event was a 3-day Dharma Sansad event held at Haridwar, Uttarakhand, from the 17th of December onwards.

An FIR was filed against Waseem Rizvi (now Jitendra Narayan Tyagi) and several others involved in the event on the basis of a complaint by one Gulbahar Khan. As per the complaint, Rizvi and some other individuals made derogatory remarks against Islamic prophet Mohammad and the followers of Islam. The complaint further states that the remarks were derogatory and provocative in nature and were made under a pre-planned conspiracy.

After apologising to court for commenting on Sameer Wankhede, Nawab Malik comes up with new allegations against NCB

Weeks after NCP spokesperson and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik tendered an unconditional apology to Bombay High Court for commenting on NCB official Sameer Wankhede, he has come up with new allegations against Sameer Wankhede, other NCB officers and a top BJP leader from Maharashtra. He made the new allegations in a press conference on 2nd January 2022, saying that NCB is getting panchnama in cases changed in backdate.

In support of his serious allegations, he also provided an audio clip of an alleged conversation between an NCB officer and a witness. Malik has also accused that a top BJP leader is lobbying in the central home ministry to give an extension to NCB officer Sameer Wankhede.

The drugs racket case which initiated from the Mumbai cruise drugs incidence is taking new turns with every new press conference by Nawab Malik wherein he claims to have exposed new ‘farjiwada’ every single time. This press conference is seen as his fresh attempt to target BJP and the NCB officers including Sameer Wankhede after NCB moved Bombay High Court seeking cancellation of bail granted to Malik’s son-in-law who is accused in a different drug case.

It may be mentioned that on December 10, Malik had tendered an unconditional apology to the Bombay High Court for making allegations against NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede, as the court had refrained him from commenting on Wankhede in public till the court hears the matter.

Alleges that NCB officers are changing the panchnama

“The way NCB has done ‘Farjiwada’ since Aryan Khan’s Mumbai cruse drugs case of 2nd October 2020 is now exposed. They formed an SIT and a committee and what has it done is yet unknown. Be it K. P. Gosavi or Bhanushali or bogus signing on blank papers, I have exposed them one by one. Now I am providing an audio clip in which an arbiter witness Maddy is in conversation with an NCB officer Kiran Babu wherein the officer is calling the arbiter witness to make changes in a backdated panchnama. It would be difficult to do this in the office, so we will sign the documents somewhere else. The afraid arbiter then calls Sameer Wankhede and asks what should he do. Wankhede has told him not to be afraid and do as told by Babu. This is the ‘farjiwada’ NCB officers are doing,” said Malik.

Bolstering his allegations, Malik further said, “They get blank papers signed, because they know that they will be in trouble once I expose their ‘farjiwada’. Then they use those blank papers to rectify as they want. This is their style.”

Questions the prolonged indecision on Wankhede’s extension

Nawab Malik also took on NCB officer Sameer Wankhede and raised questions regarding extension in his duties on the current post. He said, “Sameer Wankhede is planting the news that he does not want any extension and that he is planning to go on a three-month-long vacation. Why he wasn’t relieved when his extension ended up on 31st? If his services in the current post were to be extended, then why wasn’t done either? Why this decision is still pending? As per my information, a top leader of BJP is lobbying in the central home ministry to give extension to Sameer Wankhede.”

Trying to pose himself as a fearless crusader

Nawab Malik also objected to the NCB’s appeal against the bail of his son-in-law Sameer Khan who was also involved in a drugs case. Malik said that there are a total of six accused including the main accused Karan Sajnani. Then why the appeal is being made only against Sameer Khan, he asked. This is just to catch the attention and become famous, nothing else. This is being done just to threaten me. If NCB is a professional entity, they must explain why only Sameer Khan. “I will not be threatened and will continue to expose such ‘farjiwada’,” he added.
