Donald Trump’s ‘transactional marriage’ may come to an end as Melania Trump may call it quits: Report

Hours after the media declared Democratic Candidate Joe Biden as winner in the US Presidential elections, speculations became rife about the possible dissolution of the ‘transactional marriage’ between incumbent US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump, reported Daily Mail.

According to former aide Stephanie Wolkoff, Melania had been negotiating a post-nuptial agreement that would provide her son, Baron, an equal share of Trump’s wealth and property. She further alleged that the couple had separate bedrooms and had a transactional marriage. Moreover, another former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman alleged that the marriage of Donald Trump and Melania was over. She claimed, “Melania is counting every minute until he is out of the office and she can divorce. If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he’s in office, he would find a way to punish her.”

Melania Trump was seen bursting into tears when she learnt that her husband was elected to the Office in 2016 although she did not expect him to win. She eventually moved to Washington from New York months after Trump assumed office as their son had to finish his school. Even though the couple maintains that they have a good relationship, insiders believe that their marriage is almost over. According to lawyer Christina Previte, Melania must have gone into a prenup agreement with Donald Trump, just like his second wife Marles Maples, which is preventing her from critically speaking against him in public.

Legal expert believes that the Presidential race is far from over

Earlier, a top legal analyst in the United States of America, Jonathan Turley, has said that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should tell the Democratic party to support scrutiny and transparency into the election process. He has also opined that although Joe Biden appears to have enough votes to win the elections, Donald Trump is certainly not out of the race yet. His comments come at a time when the media has already declared Joe Biden the president-elect and celebrations have begun.

Jammu and Kashmir: Saubhagya Scheme brings electricity to far-flung villages in Nowshera for the first time

0

In a positive development, several villages in the hilly-border areas in the Nowshera sub-division in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir were electrified by the Union government under the flagship Saubhagya scheme.

As per reports, the villages had no electricity even after 70 years of Independence. While speaking on the laudable development work in Rajouri, a local resident Abdul Hamid was quoted by ANI as saying “We’re grateful to govt. Earlier, our children couldn’t study. We had to go to another village to get phones charged,” he stated.

Assistant Engineer Varun Sadotra, associated with the electrification, project informed, “A lot of border areas weren’t electrified even after 70 years of independence. So, under PM Modi’s Saubhagya scheme, far-off border villages were provided electricity, giving a boost to the rural economy.”

As per reports, about 44 Panchayats in Nowshera have been covered under the electrification project. Over 1500 hundred families living in these far-flung villages now have access to electricity. Saubhagya Scheme provides free electricity connections to poor households.

Village near LoC lights up after 73 years

Earlier, it was reported that three villages in North Kashmir, which are located in close proximity to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district, got electricity after 73 years. The villages of Keran, Mundian, and Patruu in the district remain cut-off for 6 months due to heavy snow. Besides, due to natural geographical barriers, the life of 14000 residents of the three villages remain endangered due to heavy shelling from the Pakistani side of the LoC.

A two-year-long electrification project was completed, which eased the woes of the local inhabitants of the Kupwara district. Under the electrification project, 979 utility posts, a receiving station, and a 33 Kilovolt line have been installed by the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL).

Shah Rukh Khan aide, who has been urging Kashmiri youth to fight against India, calls for assault on other journos after Arnab Goswami

Amidst the ongoing harassment of Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami by the Mumbai police, ISI agent and California-based Kashmiri separatist Tony Ashai has now chipped in the controversy. Continuing their witch-hunt against Republic TV chief, the Mumbai Police on Wednesday had arrested Arnab Goswami in a closed case of abetment of suicide.

While responding to a Republic TV video wherein Arnab Goswami alleged threats to his life, Tony Ashai claimed that Arnab had endangered the lives of other people by making ‘false’ accusations. “After putting many lives in danger by falsely accusing them and destroying their lives, Arnab Goswami now pleads for his life,” he tweeted justifying the assault on Arnab Goswami.

Tony Ashai also issued threats to Times Now journalist Navika Kumar and Kashmir-based journalist Aarti Tikoo Singh and called for an assault against them for speaking against the Pakistani State and Army. The ISI operative stated, “The same fate awaits Aarti Tikoo Navika Kumar and others. I hope with Trump gone, there will be a wave of restoration of good values worldwide.”

Ashai has had a long association with Shah Rukh Khan and many other Bollywood celebs

In July this year, netizens unearthed images of Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan with California based Kashmiri separatist Tony Ashai, who has been urging Kashmiri youth to fight against India. It was alleged that Shah Rukh Khan had a very close relationship with Tony Ashai. Ashai is believed to have built a lot of his properties in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and also designed his apartments in Los Angeles. His son Bilal Ashai has been urging the Kashmiri youth to pick up guns.

A Srinagar-based activist Al Iskandar @(Skandar on Twitter posted a series of tweets alleging that Tony Ashai, also known as Aziz Ashai, had been a member of the terror group Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) sponsored by ISI. The Bollywood superstar, according to him, had hired Ashai as an architect. Khan’s wife Gauri, he claimed is involved with Ashai in a lot of her project.

My life is in danger, says Arnab Goswami

On Sunday, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief made a shocking disclosure stating that his life was under threat as he was being shifted from the quarantine centre in Alibag to Taloja jail by the Mumbai Police. “My life is under threat. My life is under threat. Not being allowed to speak to lawyers. They assaulted me this morning. Woke me up at 6am, said I can’t speak to my lawyers. Please tell people of India my life is under threat,” said Arnab Goswami.

Arnab’s disclosure regarding the threat to his life comes days after a magistrate court in Alibag had sent Arnab to 14 days of judicial custody. Arnab Goswami was arrested a few days ago in connection with a 2018 abetment to suicide case that was recently reopened by the Mumbai Police.

Swami Vivekananda statue, which was defaced by JNU goons by painting ‘F*ck BJP’ graffiti last year, to be inaugurated by PM Modi on the university campus

0

On 12th November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda at Jawaharlal Nehru University via video-conferencing. Vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil (through video-conference) the life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda installed in the university campus on November 12, at 6:30 PM. The unveiling of the statue will be preceded by a programme on Swami Vivekananda.”

The statue has been installed on the campus with the support of JNU alumni. Kumar further added that Swami Vivekananda is one the most beloved intellectuals and spiritual leaders India has been fortunate to produce. “He enthused the youth with his message of freedom, development, harmony and peace in India,” he said.

The statue was vandalized in November 2019

In 2018, the executive council of the university decided to install Swami Vivekananda’s statue in the admin block across Nehru’s statue. JNU Students Union (JNUSU) and JNU Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) questioned the funding source at that time. In 2019, before the statue could get inaugurated, JNU goons vandalised it and wrote ‘F*ck BJP,’ ‘Bhagwa jalega’ around it.

Delhi, are you choking? It could be because of Punjab. Here is why

Punjab has recorded 6,318 new incidents of stubble burning on Saturday alone. The highest number of 952 incidents was recorded in the Sangrur district. The state had recorded 37,777 incidents in 2017, 33,687 in 2018 and 45,114 in 2019. As per data released by Ludhiana based Remote Sensing Centre, this year, the state has already recorded 59,228 cases irrespective of the ban on stubble burning and steps taken by central and state governments.

Farmers claim ‘it is inexpensive to burn stubble’

Despite efforts to raise awareness about the environmental impacts, farmers are claiming that hiring or purchasing machines like combine harvest, super seeders, and super straw management systems to manage crops is a costly deal for them. Burning the stubble is easy and cheap. They are demanding Rs.200 per quintal or Rs.6000 per acre compensation on paddy for straw management. The Punjab government has demanded Rs.100 per quintal compensation from the central government.

A woman died in stubble fire

In a recent incident, an elderly woman named Manjit Kaur was burnt alive after the scooter she was riding entered stubble fire as it lost control. As per the reports, she was going to Bhikiwind on a scooter with her grandson, Lovepreet Singh on Saturday. He lost control as he could not see the road because of the smoke from stubble burning. Lovepreet narrowly survived the incident while Manjit Kaur suffered 80% burns on her body and succumbed to her injuries. A case under Section 188 has been filed against the farmer who burnt the stubble. Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh said that two people had lost lives due to stubble burning in Punjab this year.

Strict action against farmers in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh government has registered cases against the farmers for burning stubble despite of a blanket ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal. On 5th November, cases in Salempur were reported against 18 farmers for burning stubble. SDM Omprakash Baranwal said that farmers must use adequate machinery for stubble management, and if any farmer is found burning stubble, cases will be registered as per law.

240% rise in stubble burning cases in Punjab

As per a report published by the Central government in October, stubble burning has increased by 240% in 2020. The center said that the farmers often grow vegetables between rice and wheat crops. To prepare the fields quickly for vegetable plantation, they prefer to burn the paddy stubble and clean the farm.

On the other hand, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have seen a 30% and 33% drop, respectively, in stubble burning cases. All three states have targets of machine distribution where Punjab performed poorly. Against the target of 27,000 machines, Punjab had distributed only 14,000 by October 23rd. In the case of Haryana, the state had achieved 70% of the target, and UP had achieved 69% of the target of machine distribution by the same date.

Uttar Pradesh: 15 year old girl kidnapped, raped, kept enslaved for six months, accused Shaqib arrested after Hindu group intervened

A 15-year-old minor girl was reportedly kidnapped and raped for six months from Sidhawali village in which falls under the Kankarkheda police limits in Baghpet, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, Shaqib, was arrested by the police from Dehradun-Delhi highway when he was on his way to run away with the minor girl.

As per reports, the girl was kidnapped on 31st May 2020. The girl’s family registered a complaint against the accused Shaqib. When the girl was not traced for days, members of a Hindu group, Hindu Jagriti Manch, sat on a dharna.

As per the Hindu Jagran Manch’s Sachin Sirohi, despite protests by the people, the police did not try to trace the minor girl. Hence, earlier in October, under his leadership, the girl’s family members along with members of Hindu Jagruti Manch gathered at the Kankarkheda police station and demanded action against the accused. They insisted that either the DM or the DIG is called upon to look into the case of abduction of minor girl by the accused Shaqib. Inspector Tapeshwar Sagar assured them that police will soon rescue the kidnapped girl.

An SIT was formed to rescue the girl. As per reports, the girl was rescued on Sunday by police. The accused Shaqib wanted to run away to Delhi with the girl. He was nabbed by Police from Delhi-Dehradun highway. When the police questioned him, he admitted that he kept the girl enslaved in a brick kiln. The girl was soon rescued. Shaqib admitted that he not only forced her to do labour work but also raped her.

Is Arnab Goswami really a ‘right-wing’ and ‘controversial’ journalist as media portrays him to be?

After the arrest of Arnab Goswami, he has received wide support from common people across the country. But for the left-liberal media, he remains a ‘controversial’ journalist. They condemn his arrest, but with adding the caveat that they don’t agree with his ‘style of journalism’. After BJP leaders slammed the Maharashtra government for the attack on press freedom, Goswami is also being labelled as right-wing.

Amidst such condescending attacks on Arnab Goswami by the self-proclaimed ‘neutral journalists’, a social media user named Krishna Rao on Sunday took to Twitter to explain how Arnab Goswami has carried out his profession with at most integrity in the last few years touching upon all issues crossing political and ideological boundaries.

Narrating how Arnab Goswami has covered various issues over past few years, beyond any political leanings, a rare in his profession, Krishna Rao attacked the so-called foreign journalists for repeatedly referring to Modi government as “fascist” while calling Arnab Goswami as “controversial” and “Right Wing” after he was arrested by the Mumbai Police.

“Is Arnab Goswami controversial? Is Arnab Goswami Right Wing?” the social media user asked as as he mentioned how Arnab Goswami used his platform to put out so many stories in his illustrious journalistic career, which were deliberately ignored by the Lutyens media.

The social media user put out some pertinent questions asking why are not corrupt journalists who were caught brokering cabinet berths not painted as “controversial”?. The journalists, who are openly Islamist and Anti-India, why are they not referred to as “controversial”? Why are they accepted and recruited by “reputed” international media outlets? he asked.

According to Rao, the people who do not have concrete arguments are the ones who try to get away by labelling others as ‘controversial’ and people hatch on to these labels to keep up their confirmation biases. The Lutyens media can easily target and get away by calling Arnab Goswami ‘controversial’ and right-wing and get away, he said.

Being born in a Communist and Army family, he has the both left and nationalistic inclinations but people never cared to look at his work. When did being a Left leaning and Nationalistic journalist become “controversial” and “Right Wing”? Rao put a strong response against people who throw away term such as ‘controversial’ to their opponents without providing any arguments.

Citing several past coverages carried by Arnab Goswami, Rao said that how Arnab covered the news of moral police brigade who had hauled women in Mangalore pub. It is because of Arnab Goswami, the news got highlighted, he adds.

Referring to how Arnab Goswami had questioned the UPA government, Rao continued, “During UPA scams it was Arnab Goswami who was asking questions like “what about taxpayers money?”, “Why should taxpayers pay for Kingfisher Airlines?” when rest of the media bowling full tosses to Vijay Mallya & Co”.

Interestingly, Rao narrated one of his own anecdotes saying how one of his Centre-Left colleagues was very excited to see a journalist asking the right questions and how part of Indian Left saw Arnab Goswami in them.

When Arnab Goswami was with Times Now, he always had someone from Communist parties, many spokespersons of Communist parties appeared more on Times Now than NDTV, Rao highlighted on the fact regarding Arnab Goswami’s unbiased way of providing a platform to every ideological opinion in his shows.

Arnab Goswami even questioned President of India

Most importantly, Arnab Goswami did not even spare the country’s President. Arnab Goswami had even exposed the alleged land scams of Pratibha Patil and had also confronted Abhijit Mukherjee, the son of former President Pranab Mukherjee after he had made shocking statements on rape victims.

“Arnab Goswami always had the verbosity, during the IIM students agitation he highlighted the remarks made by Chhagan Bhujbal and repeated his remarks in a loop on TV. It is because of Arnab Goswami, the scams of UPA are known to every common man,” noted Krishna Rao saying how Arnab Goswami single-handedly exposed the UPA-era scams, which was very much overlooked by the Lutyens media.

“In the absence of Arnab Goswami’s aggressive coverage, the scams would have disappeared from people’s memory if he had done soft news coverage like NDTV and Co.”

Received the wrath of Right-wingers for touching cultural issues

Not just attacking the UPA, according to Rao, Arnab Goswami had even faced the wrath of Right-wing ecosystem after he had opposed beef ban by questioning the authority of the state to control food choices of people.

When Kerala decided to implement prohibition, it was Arnab Goswami who questioned the moral and religious view of many left and right-wing people who supported prohibition.

Even in the Sabarimala case, Arnab Goswami had sought for opening up of the Sabarimala temple for all women, a stand that was contrarian to Hindus, who were against judiciary’s intervention in deciding religious and cultural issues. Speaking to OpIndia, Arnab had defended his position on Sabarimala stating that he was in support of Supreme Court judgement that allowed women of all age to enter the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.

The social media user also pointed out how Arnab Goswami had stood in support of Anurag Kashyap during his fight against ‘Sanskari’ Pahlaj Nihalani, during his controversial tenure at Central Board of Film Certification. During ‘Udta Punjab’ controversy, Arnab Goswami had taken a strong stand in support of Anurag Kashyap and other makers of the movie.

Ironically, the likes of Anurag Kashyap, who these days recognises with far-left ideas lately, foul-mouths and abuses Arnab Goswami on day-to-day basis.

AAP came to power, thanks to Arnab Goswami

Krishna Rao also opined that AAP would have never come to power in Delhi if not for the coverage by Arnab Goswami in Times Now.

Sharing another anecdote, Rao said a Lok Satta supporter friend of his was so frustrated, who said to him, “If only we had half Arnab Goswami in Telugu media, Lok Satta would get good number of seats in GHMC elections”.

According to Rao, the revolt against Arnab Goswami started after he questioned the corruption of journalists, when he talked about Radia Tapes and when he questioned why journalists were singing tunes of ISI agents like Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai.

He blames the likes of Shekhar Gupta, the media mafiosa of the country and other Lutyens gang for hounding Arnab Goswami by calling Times Now as Fox News of India.

“We have reached a point where so-called journalists are now issuing certificates, on who is a journalist & why Arnab Goswami isn’t one. We are okay with it because establishment journalists have dipped him in the oil of “controversial” & “Right Wing” – we do not want to touch it,” he noted.

Like everyone, Arnab Goswami is a human and has his shortcomings and that is why he did not attack everyone aggressively – which can be seen in his respect for Vinod Mehta and admiration for Prannoy Roy.

Rao explains that the hatred for Arnab Goswami from the Lutyens establishment stems from the fact that he is successful without their help. The establishment Lutyens media is making sure that corruption is made a footnote in the news bulletins and imaginary fascism propaganda is peddled on daily basis to serve their masters, it is Arnab Goswami and Republic who are on their way, Rao adds.

Ending his thread, Rao noted, “Hyenas of establishment Lutyens media are attacking a wounded Lion and part of the society is waiting like vultures to feed on the carcass. Eventually, it will be a loss to journalism and society if SILENCE is your choice.”

‘Joe Biden should tell the Democratic party to support scrutiny into the US election process’: Top US legal analyst

A top legal analyst in the United States of America, Jonathan Turley, has said that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should tell the Democratic party to support scrutiny and transparency into the election process. He has also opined that although Joe Biden appears to have enough votes to win the elections, Donald Trump is certainly not out of the race yet. His comments come at a time when the media has already declared Joe Biden the president-elect and celebrations have begun.

As an attorney who has testified in Congressional proceedings, Jonathan Turley laid great emphasis on the election process. He complimented Joe Biden for conducting himself admirably under the circumstances but he also reminded his readers that the election process is far from completion. He also said that as of now, there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud or anything to suggest that Joe Biden was helped by election malpractice.

Jonathan Turley wrote in an article posted on his website, “there is currently no evidence of systemic fraud in the election but there is ample reason to conduct reviews. Biden himself should tell the Democratic Party to support such scrutiny and transparency now that the initial tabulations are being completed.” “Biden has shown a respect for the process and this was a hard fought victory. He can cross the line without mass transportive assistance,” he added.

In a separate article for The Hill, Jonathan Turley wrote, “We are finishing only the second of four stages in an election for president. After the voting stage, states began the tabulation stage. We will soon enter the canvass stage, in which local districts confirm their counts and face challenges or recounts. Finally, there is the certification stage, in which final challenges can be raised. In other words, Trump is not deceased yet.”

He also stated, “If the Trump campaign is premature in claiming a deceased electorate, the Biden campaign is premature in claiming Donald Trump is deceased in the race.” Turley also said that Donald Trump is not acting out of order by not conceding the race yet. “Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney called on the president to “put his big boy pants on” and concede like Al Gore even after officials said they were still counting votes. Kenney appeared to have blocked out any memory of the 2000 election, when Gore challenged the results and fueled an intense battle. Trump is simply doing what Gore did,” he stated.

The legal analyst also expressed apprehension at the celebrations that have broken out across the United States over Biden’s victory as things could change dramatically if the Courts do find merit in allegations made by the Trump campaign. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has made it very clear that things are not over yet and litigations will be filed. Thus, under these circumstances, the attorney’s words about exercising caution appears extremely relevant.

With Arnab Goswami facing multiple FIRs and remaining in jail, here is how the cases against some other journalists were handled by courts

With Arnab Goswami failing to get a relief from Bombay High Court, the possibility of the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief approaching Supreme Court has increased. Although he will initially approach the sessions court for his bail, he has been hounded by several cases by Mumbai police, and it is likely that those cases will eventually end up at the apex court. It that context, it is pertinent to revise how the cases involving other journalists progressed at various courts, including the Supreme Court.

HW News journalist Vinod Dua, accused in a sedition case, filed a petition in the Supreme Court in June, 2020.  The Supreme Court was pleased to schedule a special sitting and hear the matter on Sunday.  The Court was further inclined to issue Notice in a petition filed under Article 32 despite there being a more than efficacious remedy for quashing of FIR under section 482 CrPC being available to Vinod Dua.

The apex Court had promptly granted relief against arrest and subsequently granted relief from even participating in the investigation. Effectively the Supreme Court ensured that no effective investigation takes place against Vinod Dua in the FIR registered in Himachal Pradesh.

Previously, Vinod Dua had approached Delhi High Court in an FIR registered by Delhi Police seeking quashing of the FIR.  The Delhi High Court was pleased to directly stay the entire FIR and subsequently, quashed the same.

A case was been registered against Vinod Dua by a local BJP leader Ajay Shyam in Shimla for making false allegations against BJP, especially Prime Minister Modi on his YouTube show on March 30. On the basis of the complaint, Dua was summoned by the police in Himachal for questioning. However, the controversial journalist had used his health, age and lockdown protocols as an excuse to evade questioning and did not turn up at the Kumarsain police station. A similar complaint was also registered against in Delhi accusing him of misreporting the Delhi riots and also on charges of creating a public nuisance by false reporting.

Vinod Dua was charged under sections 124A (sedition), 268 (public nuisance), 501 (printing matter known to be defamatory) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief). On the other hand, he claims that he has been targeted for criticising the govt.

When the UP police registered an FIR against Siddharth Varadhrajan of The WIRE form spreading fake news about Yogi Adityanath, the Allahabad High Court had promptly granted anticipatory bail to him. The FIR was filed after the Founder-Editor of The Wire had took quotes of an expelled mahant and misattributed them to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. As he had refused to delete the fake news from his Twitter handle despite requested by UP govt, the govt had proceeded to take action against him. But he had managed to secure protection from the High Court.

Similarly, when journalist Dhaval Patel, editor of a Gujarat website called Face of Nation, was arrested in Gujarat on charges of sedition, the Sessions Courts in Gujarat was pleased to grant bail. The court had said that the FIR and other documents filed by the police did not appear to establish the charge of sedition.

The FIR was filed after the website by Patel had published a news claiming that Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani may be replaced with union minister Mansukh Mandaviya, because the state administration poorly handled the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. While a court had sent him to police custody saying he tried to destabilise the govt by spreading fake news about change in leadership, the sessions court said that the charges were not proved, and hence had granted him bail.

In a similar case, Supreme Court had stayed an FIR registered against Yogesh Kumar Holkar in October this year. The journalist had covered the 2018 Bharat Bandh protests in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, while the police had accused him of participating in the protests.

Yogesh Kumar Holkar is a journalist for local newspaper ‘Dainik Chambal Surkhi’, and a total of five FIRs were registered him. When he had approached the High Court to quash the FIRs, the court had refused to so, because the trial had already started in the case. After that when he approached the Supreme Court, the court accepted his plea and granted stay in the FIR. The apex court had also stayed further proceedings in the case, even though it was being heard by trial court.

Contrast the same with the case against four journalists from West Bengal and Maharashtra.  When the journalists approached the Supreme Court with evidence of corruption by high level functionaries including ministers along with the sting operations conducted by them, multiple FIRs were registered against journalists Bhupendra Pratap Singh, Abhishek Singh, Hemant Chowrasia and Ayush Kumar Singh by the West Bengal police. But apart from granting protection from arrest, the Supreme Court has not thought it fit to list the matter for the past six months. The Kolkata Police had booked the journalists in January alleging that the sting operation was a bid to extort money from politicians.

The said journalists were in fact directed by the Supreme Court to cooperate with a vindictive state machinery and had to flee the state to avoid being persecuted under some other criminal proceeding.  Despite there being ample evidence of high-level corruption, and a specific request being made to transfer the cases to the CBI, there has been no movement on that front. The journalists had approached the Supreme Court after the High Court had rejected their plea, saying that the sting operation was still a criminal act even if it was for public interest.

Similarly, when more than 200 FIRs with verbatim text were registered against Arnab Goswami and he approached the Supreme Court in relation to the Palghar lynching episode, the court declined to quash the FIR and merely consolidated the same in Mumbai and relegated the case to be heard by the Bombay high Court. When the Maharashtra Police filed another FIR against Arnab Goswami and Republic TV in relation to the purported TRP Scam, Republic TV moved Supreme Court seeking protection from arrest.  Despite seeking urgent mentioning and listing of the matter, the petition was listed only after some time had elapsed and the court declined to intervene observing that it would be appropriate for the petitioner to approach the Bombay High Court.

Again, when Arnab Goswami was arrested by Mumbai police in the old case which was closed by court, the Bombay High Court refused to grant him interim relief, saying they need to hear the entire case even for granting bail. This is despite the fact the CJM court which had declined police remand of Goswami observed that police erred by reopening the case without taking necessary permission from court.

Actor Puneet Issar questions why Maharashtra Police officials did not try to save lives of Palghar sadhus from mob lynching

0

Months after two Sadhus were lynched to death by a violent mob in Palghar in Maharashtra, actor Puneet Issar questioned the inaction of the police officials present during the crime. He had released a video of Twitter highlighting the significance of saints in the Indian society.

“Two 40-year-old Sadhus were mercilessly killed by 200 people. But, those responsible for protecting them (the police) stood there as silent spectators. The police did not help them. If they wanted to disperse the crowd, they could have fired warning shots in the air. Perhaps, this could have saved the lives of the two Sadhus. But they did not do this! As a result, the two victims and their driver were mercilessly beaten and lynched to death. This is India – the land of Dharma and that of the esteemed saints,” he emphasised.

Puneet Issar stated that the meaning of the word ‘Bharath’ is the pursuit of light (knowledge). He added, “The saints are the ones who are always engaged in the pursuit of knowledge. They embody the idea of India and show the path of light to those lost in darkness. They teach the world of meaning of Sanatan Dharma and the true essence of hospitality, non-discrimination and humanity. When a man dawns saffron clothes and walks the streets, he does not remain a normal human being but rather an embodiment of God himself.”

Palghar Sadhu lynching

On 16th April 2020, two Sadhus of Juna Akhara, Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), and Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) were lynched along with their 30-year old driver by a mob. The incident took place at Gadchinchale village in Palghar district, Maharashtra. They were on their way to Surat, Gujarat. The police were present at the scene, but the allegedly did not try to stop the mob or did anything to save the sadhus.

The revelations of the fact-finding committee

The fact-finding committee constituted to unravel the truth of the Palghar case, had revealed that the left-wing organizations working in the area have created hatred in the minds of the tribals against Hindus, its religious gurus, and sadhus. Vivek Vichar Manch formed the fact-finding team that comprised of retired judges, lawyers, and police officers.

The 149-page report has made some explosive revelations, including how some groups are spreading hate and inciting the tribal population against the union government. The team had demanded that the central investigation agencies like NIA or CBI should handle the Palghar mob lynching case. They said that the whole truth could come out if such agencies manage the investigation.

The fact-finding team’s investigation had also concluded that the growing violence in the area came to the fore after Chrisitan organizations such as the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, Tenancy Organizations, Bhoomi Sena, Adivasi Ekta Parishad, CPM began exerting their influence in the region.
