Owner of ‘halal’ investment group flees leaving investors in lurch, blames Congress MLA for taking 400 crores

Thousands of investors of IMA jewels, a halal investment firm, in Bengaluru thronged the office after the audio clip of its founder and managing director Mohammad Mansoor Khan went viral where he claimed he is ending his life due to financial distress. As per reports, over 1 lakh people have invested in the company.

In the audio clip, Khan is accusing senior Congress MLA Roshan Baig of arm twisting and refusing to return Rs 400 crore which he had taken after he failed to get a Lok Sabha ticket for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Khan has also alleged that he is being harassed by several politicians and government officers who had taken money from him.

Baig, however, dismissed the allegations and called the audio clip fake. Khan had alleged that following the threat, he had moved his family members to a village and he himself was staying in South Bengaluru.

When the audio clip went viral, the investors reached the office of IMA jewels only to find that it was closed due to Eid to be reopened on 10th June. However, Khan now seems to have fled. The police is not able to confirm yet whether he has committed suicide or not. Police has maintained that he has been absconding since the Central Crime Branch and the Assistant Commissioner’s office filed cases against him.

While interest-based investment in banking is prohibited under Islam, IMA would take money from investors and invested in bullion trading, schools, hospitals, etc. In return, IMA would pay 2-4 % interest every month to investors. Things got a little shaky in March but Khan assured investors it was due to elections and all was well.

However, thousands of investors are now left in a lurch as Khan is now absconding and the fate of their hard-earned money is unknown.

Radical Islamist preacher Zakir Naik willing to come back to India only if Supreme Court ‘ensures his safety’

Radical Islamist preacher Zakir Naik said that he would be willing to come back to India if the Supreme Court gives a written assurance that he would not be arrested and jailed till he is actually convicted.

In a statement, Naik has said that he has trust in the Indian judiciary, he had no faith in the prosecution system.

Naik said “Despite allegations and complaints, there is not a single verdict against me in any court anywhere in India or the world. The recent history of India is replete with cases of Muslims being arrested and put in jail for 8-20 years before being declared innocent by the court. Knowing this record of the Indian agencies, I would not like to take the chance of ruining my life and my unfinished work”.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) would soon be requesting the Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice against the hate preacher after securing a non-bailable arrest warrant for a Rs 193 crore money-laundering case.

Zakir Naik has denied the allegations made by ED. Yesterday, the Malaysian government asserted that the country has the right to not extradite Zakir Naik if he feels that he wouldn’t be getting a fair trial in India. Naik has been granted permanent residency by the Malaysian government.

In an interview with the Week, Zakir Naik has said that he wouldn’t return to India as long as the BJP was in power and claimed that he would feel safe only if the Congress comes back. Days after the Easter Sunday bomb attack in Sri Lanka, the cable operators of the island country have also blocked Zakir Naik’s Peace TV.

PM Modi seeks 5-year roadmap with well-defined targets for each ministry

In his first meeting with the Secretaries to the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entrusted them with the responsibility of designing a five-year roadmap for each Ministry with well-defined goals.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in which  Cabinet Secretary P.K Sinha assigned the sectoral groups of secretaries the task of coming up with five-year plans for each Ministry, with clear-cut milestones and targets. The meeting was attended by senior Cabinet leaders such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Dr Jitendra Singh.

Apart from this, each Ministry has been tasked with proposing “A significant impactful decision” for which approvals will be given within 100 days, said an official statement.

PM Modi stressed on the participation from every department to achieve the ambitious target of making India a five-trillion dollar economy. PM Modi not only asked each Ministry to place top priority on ‘ease of living’ but he also added that India’s advancement in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ should indicate in larger facilitation for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

PM Modi also touched upon the salience of ‘Make in India’ initiative to propel India in the league of $5+ trillion economies. Talking about the convincing Lok Sabha mandate received by the people for his government, PM Modi said that it reflected the will and aspirations of the people to alter the ‘status quo’ and aspire for a better life. Modi asserted that the Lok Sabha result was marked by pro-incumbency and that the team of officials who worked hard, envisaged schemes and implemented them on the ground should be credited for this victory.

Modi stated that the population of the country had reposed their faith in the NDA’s governance. “It is now our duty to fulfil their aspirations. Their aspirations shouldn’t be viewed as challenges but as opportunities. The mandate reflects the will and aspirations of the people to change their status quo and seek a better life,” PM Modi emphasised, asking the secretaries to focus on improving the ‘ease of living’ of the people through various Ministries.

World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan ruled out for 3 weeks due to thumb injury

Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of playing in the 2019 World Cup for three weeks due to an injured thumb. Dhawan was hit on his left thumb while playing a rising delivery from Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile. India won by 36 runs while playing against the defending champions at The Oval on Sunday.

Dhawan reportedly took precautionary scans yesterday to determine the extent of the injury on his swollen left thumb. Following which he was ruled out of the game. Despite the injury, Dhawan went on to score a match-winning 117 against Australia.

Dhawan would be missing the upcoming games against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies and England – which are all scheduled to be played in June.

In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul is most likely to open with Rohit Sharma. Dhawan’s possible replacement could be either be Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant. After having played their second World Cup match on Sunday, India would be playing its next game on Thursday against New Zealand in Nottingham.

Aligarh child murder case: Locals find it hard to believe that serial sexual predator Aslam did not rape the child

The barbarity exhibited in the brutal killing of a three-year-old Tina (name changed) by Zahid and Aslam in Aligarh has shaken the conscience of the country. While there are few ‘secular’ comrades and self-proclaimed fact-checkers who have been busy spreading misinformation and resorting to whitewashing the crime, ruling out any possibility of rape on the minor, Swarajya Magazine’s Swati Goel Sharma elucidates the perspective of the locals.

In a ground report, Swati apprises the readers with the local’s and the victim’s family’ point of view regarding the barbaric incident which transpired in Tappal village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh recently.

Tappal has been flooding with protestors from places as far as New Delhi and Haryana as the atmosphere here remains tensed. The locals guide Swarjya’s correspondent to a lane they call ‘Panditon ki Gali’ (street of Pandits). A tent is set up and carpet laid outside the house of the victim’s family.

When the correspondent approached the victim’s father and asked about the money dispute that the police have apprised the media to be the motive of the crime, Tina’s irked father lambasted, “You really think somebody would unleash such brutality on a child for 10,000 rupees?” he asks. “That too when we did not even force him to return the money?”

The father, however, refusing to comment further on the motive said, “All I ask for is that the culprits, whoever they are, should be hanged,” he says with folded hands. “Or better, stoned to death at the highway,” he added bitterly.

The victim’s grandfather also stepped in at that point and narrated what transpired and what led him to name Zahid as a suspect.

Zahid (27), was the first to be arrested in the case, followed by his 42-year-old neighbour Aslam. Zahid’s wife Sabusta and younger brother Mehdi Hasan were also arrested later.

The grandfather informed that he had got into an altercation with Zahid two days before his grandchild went missing on 30 May. “I was walking by when I saw Jahid engaged in an argument with a bicholia (middleman),” he says. The bicholia, also a Muslim, had got him to lend Rs 50,000 on interest to Zahid about a year ago. Zahid had returned Rs 40,000 so far.

“They were fighting over money. When they saw me, the middleman ordered Zahid to return my money. I snapped at the middleman saying he should be the one to return it as I was dealing with him and not Zahid. We had some more arguments. But for me, the matter ended then and there and I moved on though I heard Zahid say loudly, “main sabko dekh lunga” (I will deal with everyone)” he recollected.

According to the initial reports, Zahid was the prime accused as Tappal police had testified that Zahid had brutally choked Tina Sharma (name changed). Locals claimed that when sniffer dogs were taken to the garbage heap where Tina’s mutilated body was dumped, the dogs ran towards Zahid’s house. A senior cop at Tappal station testified to this. Subusta came under the scanner as it was her dupatta that the body was found wrapped in.

However, the locals were refusing to buy the police’s explanation. Those gathered for mourning told Swarajya that they found it difficult to believe that Zahid had planned the crime as “he was not criminal-minded”. The locals believed that it was masterminded by Aslam, who they believed was a serial sexual predator who targeted minors.

Cops at the Tappal police station also confirmed that Zahid had no prior criminal record. Aslam, on the other hand, had been booked twice in the past under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and once under UP Goonda Act.

In 2014, he was booked under IPC 376 (rape) and sections 3 and 4 of POCSO (penetrative sexual assault) Act for raping his nine-year-old daughter after taking her to a field (FIR number 41/14). In 2015, he was booked under the UP Goonda Act under various sections (FIR number 43/015).

Similarly, in 2017, Aslam was booked under sections 452 (house-trespass) and 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and sections 7 and 8 of POCSO (sexual assault) for molesting a minor girl after breaking into her house (FIR number 76/017).

In addition, locals also spoke about a prominent case where Aslam sexually assaulted a minor boy for two weeks. Mohit Pratap Singh, Aslam’s neighbour confirmed that “about two years ago, he brought a minor boy from Delhi and kept him in confinement for two weeks. It was only after a police team from Delhi raided his house and rescued the boy that we came to even know about it.” Scores of locals corroborated this incident.

Moreover, Tina’s mother had also come forth and alleged that Aslam had raped his own 4-year-old daughter earlier.

Meanwhile, locals also recalled Aslam as violent. A neighbour says that a day before the body was found, Aslam chased his wife with a butchers’ knife in the street. “He would have probably killed her if not for our intervention,” the neighbour says. He adds that his wife had come home from her parent’s place the same day. Neighbours furthered that Aslam’s wife had left him last year when he assaulted his daughter again.

Another prime reason why residents of Tappal village suspect Aslam of executing the crime is because the back gate of the house of the girl’s grandfather opens into the locality where Aslam has a second house.

The victim’s uncle confirmed that there was no possibility of Tina going to Zahid’s locality. “No one seems to have spotted him here either”, confirmed Tina’s uncle.

On the morning of 2 June, a woman sweeper raised an alarm after she discovered a maggot-infested body thrown in a pile of garbage and being fed on by stray dogs around 6.30 am. A crowd gathered at the spot that is hardly 200 metres away from the Sharma house. The sight left them stunned. It was mutilated beyond recognition.

The barbarity unleashed on the child could be gauged from what a doctor who did the post-mortem later confirmed. “In my seven years of doing post-mortems, I have never seen such brutality. Her nasal bridge was damaged and her left leg and left arm were broken. Her right hand had been removed from her body.” The report, which was circulated widely on social media, also mentions ‘liquefied brain’, ‘both eyes tissues loosened’ and ribs seen separately. It suggests death by strangulation.

The family recognised the child by the yellow shorts which were similar to what Tina was wearing when she went missing.

Moreover, the family also questions the police’s conduct in the initial days. According to Tina’s maternal grandfather, the police were trying to cover up the case. He says that when the body was discovered, the cops immediately took it to the police station and, without informing the family, began to take it “somewhere” in their vehicle. But residents confronted the cops, asking them where the blood relatives of the girl were.

“The police lied to them saying the girl’s grandfather was in their vehicle. Residents protested saying he was still in the thana. They understood that the police were trying to show the recovery at a distant location and stopped the vehicle,” he says. The body was then sent to the local hospital. Stuffed in a bag, it was later taken to Aligarh for post-mortem. This time, there were family members too, he says.

A relative says the police wanted to hush up the case as it was “a Hindu-Muslim matter”. For the same reason, locals are criticising the police’s hurried statement ruling out rape.

“If there was no rape, why are police adding POCSO?” asks a relative. “The post-mortem had no evidence of rape but did not rule out the possibility. Also, when the forensic report [examining vaginal swabs of the girl] is awaited, why was police in a rush to declare no rape took place?” he asks.

Locals found it difficult to believe that Aslam, in particular, did not rape the child. “Are we expected to believe that a man who doesn’t spare his own daughter, brings boys from Delhi to satisfy his urge, peeps into minor girls’ bathrooms, would spare this girl?” asks a neighbour.

Aslam, it is learnt, had been boycotted by many residents. Neighbours say the locals held a meeting last year and called for Aslam to be driven out of the village. But the move was halted by some members of his Muslim community.

It is also believed that around Aslam’s other house near Zahid’s, where the body was discovered, the mostly Muslim neighbours refuse to speak. Several houses were in fact locked on Sunday.

Residents, who have refused to buy the monetary dispute motive, now ask why a serial sexual predator like Aslam was allowed to roam freely despite several cases against him.

Though the post mortem report is yet to ascertain whether the minor girl was raped or not, the local’s corroboration leaves one to believe that there is much more to be identified in this barbaric crime which has sent chills down the spine of the citizens of India.

Pakistan’s Jazz TV mocks Wing Commander Abhinandan’s capture during Balakot air strikes in World Cup ad

As Indian cricket team is set to take on arch nemesis Pakistan in the ongoing ICC cricket world, the media companies are having whale of a time playing up the nationalistic flavour. While India had its ‘Mauka Mauka‘ ad reminding how Pakistan still has a long way to go, Pakistan has taken a dig on Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s capture following the Balakot Airstrikes.

An ad has gone viral in the social media circles, in which a look-alike version of Abhinandan can be seen mocking the Indian Air Force fighter pilot with a parody act. Ridiculing the video released of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman by Pakistani military after he was captured a day after the Balakot airstrike, the video made by Pakistan’s Jazz TV shows a cheap version of Abhinandan wearing a blue jersey with a moustache.

In the video, the parody repeats those statements made by Abhinandan during his capture, “I’m sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this” when asked about questions related to India’s playing XI and the team’s strategy if it wins the toss.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, in an encounter with the intruding Pakistan fighter jets, had shot down a Pakistan F-16 jet with a missile fired from his MiG-21 Bison in aerial takedown aftermath of India’s non-military airstrikes on terror sites in Balakot, Pakistan.

Following which he was forced to eject after his MiG-21 Bison was shot by Pakistan, landing him in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. He was captured by the Pakistan army and was beaten up, choked and tortured in the first 24 hours of captivity. But Pakistan released and handed him to India after that due to mounting international pressure.

Speaking of Wing Commander Abhinanadan, parody country Pakistan’s media had recently thought that PM Modi was talking about Wing Commander while addressing party workers after the 2019 victory because he said ‘abhinandan’ (congratulations) to them.

Pakistan cricket team has never won against India in the ICC cricket world and has been humiliated by the Indian cricket six times before. On Sunday, June 16th, the Indian side will be taking on Pakistan at Manchester.

Abhisar Sharma lies and blames Zee News of ‘creating alibi’ to save ‘guilty’ Vishal Jangotra when the court has already acquitted him

The verdict in the Kathua Rape Case was announced on Monday by the Pathankot Court. While three were charged with rape and murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, three others were sentenced to five years for destruction of evidence. One of the main accused in the case, Vishal Jangotra, was acquitted of all charges.

Jangotra’s acquittal, in large parts, can be credited to Zee News which aired CCTV footage and produced other evidence that showed he was not present at Kathua during the entire series of events. It appears, however, some journalists are unable to digest the fact.

Abhisar Sharma, known to harbour a morbid hatred towards people who disagree with him, has resorted to peddling Fake News to further his agenda. In a video published on YouTube on the 10th of June, the propagandist accused Zee News of trying to save Jangotra by creating a false alibi for him.

Sharma called the Zee News report a “drama” which was found to be “false” by investigative agencies. In reality, however, the Court commended Zee News’ efforts to highlight the facts of the matter. The Court said, “The genuine efforts made by ‘Zee News’, particularly Editor-in-Chief of ‘Zee News’ and staff needs appreciation as they have tried their level best to bring the actual truth on surface.” The Court further said that it “broadly” supported the Zee News report in question.

There appears to have been great eagerness in expected quarters to dub Vishal Jangotra guilty in the matter. The Print declared all the accused as guilty and even announced the quantum of punishment before the Court did. Propagandists AltNews, too, attacked dissenters by insinuating that Jangotra had been declared guilty in the verdict.

Supreme Court asks UP government to display ‘magnanimity’ in releasing journalist Prashant Kanojia

Freelance journalist Prashant Kanojia, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh government for posting derogatory tweets about Gods, Goddesses and inflammatory posts on UP CM Yogi Adityanath, has been asked to be released by the apex court. The Supreme Court has asked the UP government to show ‘magnanimity’ in releasing the controversial journalist Prashant Kanojia.

Hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by Kanojia’s wife, Jagisha Arora, seeking his release, the vacation bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Ajay Rastogi passed the order. The bench observed that the arrest and remand were illegal, violating the principle of ‘Liberty’ enshrined in the constitution.

Representing the prosecution, Additional Solicitor General Vikramjit Banerjee asserted that the arrest was necessary “to send a message” that inflammatory tweets cannot be permitted. However, the bench rejected it, opting for the primacy of an individual’s personal liberty.

Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan, the counsel for the defendant claimed that the alleged post uploaded by Prashant constitutes no prima facie criminal offence and that his arrest was totally unwarranted and an attack on free speech and right to life.

The Additional Solicitor General appearing for UP Government argued that the arrest was not solely for comments against the CM. The ASG cited several tweets posted by Kanojia in the past which were insulting gods, religious sentiments and people from particular castes and communities. He asserted that his arrest was made for public mischief, and Section 505 IPC was added in the FIR later.

However, the bench remained unconvinced. Justice Banerjee asked, “We do not appreciate his tweets. But can he be put behind the bars simply for that?” The Court also expressed its disbelief at 11 days remand ordered by the Magistrate. Justice Rastogi argued, “Is he accused of murder?”

The ASG responded back claiming that there were SC precedents that remand orders cannot be challenged in habeas corpus petition and that the appropriate remedy was to seek bail from lower courts. ASG mentioned that the remand orders have been passed by the Magistrate and hence Article 32 shouldn’t be entertained. But the court didn’t budge at this technical objection. It mentioned Article 142 of the Constitution that grants SC powers to do “complete justice”.

On Saturday, the UP police officials picked up Prashant Kanojia after a case was registered at Hazratganj police station, Lucknow. The arrest was made after he was accused of spreading rumours on social media. The police officials had confirmed that the accused has confessed to his crime.

A case was registered under IPC section 500 (defamation), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and section 67 of the IT act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

The accused Prashant Kanoja is notoriously known in social media circles for spreading fake news, rabid anti-Hindu hate especially against Dalits by making atrocious statements. Prashant Kanoja has a history of making vile comments against Dalits and Hindu saints. He had even referred to Dalits as ‘animals with no brains’.

The Court’s decision comes in stark contrast to the case in which a BJP youth wing leader Priyanka Sharma was arrested for sharing an innocuous meme on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and sent on remand for 14 days. The Court had then asked Sharma to tender an apology to the CM Mamata Banerjee for sharing the meme.

Justice Indira Banerjee had then contended that Freedom of Expression is non-negotiable, but it cannot encroach upon another person’s rights. Although the court later dispensed with the requirement of her apology to get bail, she was still asked to tender her apology after her release.

India stands by Israel, rejects request of Palestinian organisation ‘Shahed’ to obtain observer status in the UN

India stood by Israel and voted against the granting of the status of an observer organisation to the Palestinian-Lebanese terror organization ‘Shahed’. On 6th June, in a resolution initiated by Israel, the Hamas allied group “The Palestinian Association for Human Rights – Witness” was prevented from receiving a special status at the UN.

As per the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, “Shahed is a Palestinian organisation based in Lebanon that claims to deal with human rights and humanitarian issues, but in practice is an organisation that Israel has declared a terrorist organisation and in fact, operates as an arm of the Hamas terror organisation in Lebanon”.

The Shahed has been registered in Lebanon under the name “Witness” which claims to support the rights of the 450,000 Palestinians living in the 12 UNRWA-run refugee camps across Lebanon.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed an order declaring “Witness” a terrorist organisation aligned with Hamas in March 2019. “In recent months, Israel’s security establishment has revealed that Witness belongs to the Hamas movement and acts on its behalf against Israel as part of a network of institutions and organisations the terrorist organization operates outside the Gaza Strip,” Israel’s Mission to the UN said in a statement Thursday.

In a February a Committee considered the application of several NGOs to grant them a special status at the UN. 236 NGOs were granted the special status on June 6th, however, the application of “Witness” was turned down after it “failed to present important information when its credentials were being considered during the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations”.

Among the countries that were in favour were the resolution were countries like Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States. Notably, the countries that voted against include Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and China.

The Israeli PM has on several occasions called for united action against ‘Radical Islam’ terming it as a ‘challenging our way of life’. Facebook had however temporarily blocked the PMs son for demanding revenge of an Islamic terrorist attack that left two Israeli soldiers dead.

In March, an Indian company, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) signed a technology collaboration agreement (TCA) with an Israeli firm Elbit Systems Ltd for licensed manufacture of Helmet Mounted Display System to be used by Armed Forces pilots. In the Balakot airstrikes, Israeli made Spice 2000 precision bombs were used, with 80% bombs hitting the target. The IAF is also likely to buy an advanced ‘bunker-buster’ version of the same aircraft.

Action against ‘anti-NDTV’ officer result of various transgressions, cases against NDTV founders to continue

In a major crackdown on corruption, as many as 12 government officials, including the Chief Commissioner, Principal Commissioners and the Commissioner of Income Tax Department have been ordered to retire early under Rule FR 56 (J) of the Central Civil Services (CCS) on Monday. The order was issued by Finance Ministry yesterday.

Finance Ministry sources said, “12 senior officers of ranks of Chief Commissioner, Principal Commissioners and Commissioner of Income Tax Department compulsorily retired under Rule 56 by the Finance Ministry”.

One name in that stood out in the list of 12 officers and created quite the flutter, was SK Srivastava, the man who had been leading the charge against NDTV.

S Gurumurthy, the part-time Director of the RBI and a crusader who has been highlighting NDTV’s shenanigans for a long time took to Twitter to express his concerns about SK Srivastava being sacked and what that would mean for the case against NDTV.

In an 88 page letter written to the CBI chief in April 2018, Srivastava had said that “NDTV Ltd. needs to be investigated over parking of bribe of US $40 million by Maxis and its owner T. Ananda Krishnan (accused in the Aircel-Maxis case) on behalf of P Chidambaram and Karti P. Chidambaram for obtaining FIPB approval in Rs.3500 crores. Aircel-Maxis deal fraudulently claiming the proposal for Rs.180 crores only when gross value of the proposal was to be considered and which has been hushed up by certain IRS officers in lieu of bribe paid by NDTV Ltd.”

Interestingly, recently, NDTV had withdrawn a defamation case against activist and academician Madhu Kishwar for publishing an article that had the allegations that were levelled by SK Srivastava on the channel NDTV, its founders and even Abhisar Sharma, an ex-employee of NDTV.

After the 2017 CBI raids on NDTV founder Prannoy Roy’s house, several voices from within the journalist community had started questioning NDTV’s financial wrongdoings. Malini Parthasarathy, a Director in the company publishing the left-leaning newspaper The Hindu who has also served as its Editor earlier, said that she did not subscribe to the view that the case against NDTV was an attack on press freedom. She had also said that NDTV is hiding behind the press-freedom veil to skirt answering questions. After this, Prannoy Roy had blocked Malini on Twitter to avoid the embarrassment of answering her questions.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy said that he would be taking up the case of SK Srivastava, the IT Commissioner who was investigating NDTV. He also said that first, he will write to the Prime Minister regarding the issue too.

NDTV had alleged that SK Srivastava had harassed two women colleagues. The names of the 2 lady Income Tax officials are Sumana Sen and Ashima Neb. Sumana Sen’s husband Abhisar Sharma was employed with NDTV as a senior journalist, when Sen is alleged to have favoured NDTV in a Tax case, in exchange for a Rs 1 crore holiday.

After SK Srivastava was sacked by the government yesterday, Abhisar Sharma took to Twitter to celebrate the ‘victory’.

While the conversation around what would happen to the cases against NDTV has been raging on social media, government sources told OpIndia that the cases against SK Srivastava are aplenty because of which, among the 12 officers against whom action was taken, Srivastava was one of them.

He has been accused of two lady IRS officers of Commissioner rank. One of them, was incidentally the wife of Abhisar Sharma as mentioned before. We were informed that SK Srivastava had got tax evasions petition filed through a Member of Parliament stating that the two lady IRS officers of Commissioner rank (who were in vigilance department when SK Srivastava was suspended) had received huge income from corruption and prostitution. He pressurized the assessing officers to pass orders adding the alleged income of bribery and prostitution in their incomes. This was incidentally what Abhisar Sharma had claimed all along. He had asserted that he and his wife were innocent of the charges levied by Srivastava.

According to S Gurumurthy, however, the allegations of sexual harassment against SK Srivastava have been proven to be false.

He also allegedly threatens officers who refuse to cooperate with him with slander. Recently, as an instance, he filed a contempt petition against Former Revenue Secretary and the Establishment Officer in a frivolous case, according to government sources.

He has also allegedly been prolonging conclusion of departmental inquiry cases for the last 10 years by filing as many as 75 petitions in CAT, High Court, and Supreme Court.

In as many as eight cases, High Court and CAT have passed strictures and warning and imposed fines for his scandalous allegations against the lady officers and other higher officers. In one case he has been ordered to undergo civil imprisonment of 15 days for his allegations against the former Chairman and Members of CBDT. He has also filed contempt petitions against former Secretary Revenue.

It is because of these instances that the government took action against Srivastava along with 11 other officers who were accused in various other cases.

People in the know explain that any departmental inquiry doesn’t mean that every deed by that individual gets invalidated. What SK Srivastava would have found against NDTV or its founders, would still be valid regardless of the action against the officers.

Therefore, while NDTV or its founders might celebrate and cite it as proof of their innocence, that would not be legally sound, because departmental action against SK Srivastava doesn’t mean that everyone else has got a clean chit.
