Washington Post columnist Khaled Beydoun, who spread lies about Hindus and India, now caught making up fake racism against Arabs

On Saturday (11th November), US-based ‘Professor’ Khaled Beydoun, who wrote extensively for The Washington Post, spread fake news about Arabs facing racism due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The propaganda artist shared a screenshot on X(formerly Twitter), which read, “Go back to your country dirty Arab.” Another message in the purported post read, “I can’t (go back). Your government gave Israel $14 billion last week to destroy it (Gaza).”

While sharing the screenshot, Khaled Beydoun claimed that he received it from a follower on Instagram. The controversial ‘Professor’ wanted to insinuate that Arabs are somehow being subjected to racism amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Although he wanted to use the alleged case of ‘racism’ to deviate public discourse from documented anti-Semitic attacks, netizens were quick to point out that the screenshot was fake.

X (formerly Twitter) users updated the community note to reflect the fact that the ‘racist message’ was written by Khaled Beydoun himself. “Blue on Instagram means that the message was sent from his own phone. Khaled presumably sent the racist message to himself,” it said.

After being exposed by netizens, the Washington Post columnist was quick to delete this tweet. In his defence, Beydoun claimed, “The post in question was sent by a THIRD party as stated in the text (from a follower) — not me. But people don’t read sadly. If was flagged by bigots who didn’t read the caption then removed. Done deal, bigger fish to fry.”

X (formerly Twitter) users promptly pointed out how this was not the first time that the American ‘Professor’ had peddled fake news and aided in pro-Hamas propaganda. Khaled Beydon had earlier shared a 2017 image from the Syrian conflict and passed it off as a recent Israeli attack on AL Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

“They are targeting ambulances and dropped phosphorus bombs in the vicinity of the hospital, “The Washington Post falsely claimed.

Beydoun’s history of anti-India and anti-Hindu reporting

The US-based Professor has a history of disseminating both anti-Hindu and anti-India propaganda. Khaled Beydoun has repeatedly called for the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India.

On multiple occasions, he has called Prime Minister Narendra Modi an ‘Islamophobe’.

In one tweet, Khaled claimed that PM Modi and BJP are trying to stop the Indian Muslim population from becoming the largest in the world by 2050 by “way of laws stripping Muslims of citizenship, bulldozing mosques, and ethnic cleansing.”

It is notable that there is NO LAW in India to strip Muslims from citizenship. He is referring to CAA and NRC in this tweet. Still, it has been proven multiple times that it is anti-India propaganda to call CAA and NRC Modi Government’s way to strip Muslims of citizenship.

CAA specifically does not even apply to any Indian citizen including Muslims.

In another tweet, he even claimed that PM Modi and BJP are building concentration camps with the objective to use CAA to cancel Indian Muslims’ citizenship who lack proper paperwork and throw them in those camps as “illegal immigrants”. The fact is, CAA does not concern any Indian citizen at all.

The self-obsessed Khaled calls himself “one of the few voices in the US that openly criticizes Hindutva supremacy and Islamohphia in India”.

Last year, he tried to bask in the reflected glory from Moroccan players by claiming that this is a win for all Muslims. In April 2022, the propaganda artist claimed that it was Hindus who should be blamed for the attack on Hindu religious processions.

As such, the X (formerly Twitter) account of Khaled Beydoun was withheld in India in December 2022.

Canada: Rival gangs kill gangster Harpreet Singh Uppal and his 11-year-old son in Edmonton

0

On 8th November, a gangster and his 11-year-old son were killed by unidentified assailants in Edmonton, Canada. Identified as Harpreet Singh Uppal, the gangster was suspected of being targeted by a rival gang outside an Edmonton gas station. Uppal was one of the high-level figures in the organised crime network in Canada. He was a member of the 3rd-Generation Punjabi bikers gang and had links to Punjab gangs. While Uppal was reportedly a known associate of Brothers Keepers, Police believe that the shooters belonged to the United Nations (UN) gang, a rival gang in the region.

Uppal was facing several criminal charges, including cocaine smuggling. He was scheduled to face trial in April 2024. Usually, rival gangs do not target each other’s families. However, this time, Uppal’s 11-year-old son was not spared during the attack. Police officers said in a statement that they had come across several instances where rival gangs aborted shooting plans when a family member, especially children, were seen with the target.

Notably, there was another boy, a friend of Uppal’s son, in the car at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, he was unharmed in the incident. Acting superintendent Colin Derksen of Edmonton Police Service called the incident brazen while speaking to the media on 9th November. The Police said it was unclear if the shooters were aware of the presence of children in the car or not. He said, “But what we do know, sadly, is that once the shooter or the shooters learned that the son was there, they intentionally shot and killed him.” He further said that most gang members would agree that the shooting while children’s presence at the scene was “sick and twisted”.

The suspects came in a stolen 2012 BMW X6. The assailants later burned it in the north of Beaumont. So far, no arrests or identifications of the suspects have been made by the Police.

Uppal and his family were earlier targeted in 2021 when a gunman opened fire through the window of a restaurant where they were having a family dinner. Harsh Jindal, a getaway driver, was the only one charged in that case. However, the case against him was dropped in October of this year.

Alberta’s premier, Danielle Smith, expressed concerns that it might result in a rise in gun violence in the neighbourhood. The premier said, “With a heavy heart, I contemplate how it’s conceivable for a child to be killed in such a tragic manner like this. Like many of you, I am concerned with the rise in gun violence in our neighbourhoods.”

Staff Sergeant Rob Bilawey with the EPS Homicide Section said, “We are sad to report that a child lost their life today as a result of this violent event. The loss or injury of children as a result of gunfire is unfathomable, and we urge anyone with information that may assist this investigation to come forward as soon as possible.”

Multiple gangsters have been killed in Canada in recent times

This was not the first rival gang killing in Canada with links to Khalistani gangs. Earlier, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed by unidentified assailants outside a Surrey Gurdwara on 19th June this year. His murder resulted in diplomatic issues between India and Canada as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of killing Nijjar on Canadian soil in September this year. Interestingly, almost two months have passed since he accused India of the murder, but has failed to present any substantial proof of the same. However, it resulted in serious diplomatic consequences as India has already removed 41 out of 61 Canadian diplomats from the country and stopped Visa services for the Canadians.

On 21st September, Punjabi gangster Sukha Duneke was killed in Winnipeg. He had fled to Canada in 2017. He was a known associate of gangster-cum-Khalistani operative Arshdeep Dalla. Another gangster, Goldy Brar, took responsibility for Duneke’s murder. In a statement, Brar accused Duneke of killing his brother Gurlal Brar and said he took revenge for his brother’s murder by killing Duneke. Notably, Goldy Brar is also accused in the murder of controversial singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala, who was killed in his home village in Punjab in May 2022. Goldy is a known associate of the Lakhbir Singh Landa gang that has connections to Khalistani terrorists.

In July 2023, another Punjabi gangster, Karanveer Singh Garcha, was killed in Coquitlam, Canada. Police believe that the murder was linked to the murder of gangster Amarpreet Samra alias Chucky in Vancouver in May 2023.

On 14th July 2022, 1985, Air India bombing accused Ripudaman Singh was also killed in Canada.

Canada is known as a haven for terrorists, gangsters and most wanted criminals. Some well-established Punjabi gangs in Canada include Brothers Keepers, Dhaliwal Crime Family, United Nations, Dhak-Duhre gang, Independent Soldiers, Kang Crime Family, Malli-Buttar Coalition and others.

Deepavali 2023: Hindu festivals are clarion calls for the community to heal wounds inflicted on them every day in the fight for Dharma

Ever wondered what it’s like when the prayers in your heart of hearts are answered? The grand preparations and fervour for Deepavali (Diwali) among Hindus will give you a taste of the same come 12th November, Sunday.

Hindus in Bharat will be welcoming Prabhu Shri Ram Ji back to his beloved homeland, the Ayodhya Nagari, from his (physical) exile that lasted a painful 494 years and 10 months. The Maryada Purushottam will be accompanied by His Consort Ma Sita Ji and Brother Bhagwan Lakshman Ji.

Bringing them all home is the Bhakt (devotee) of all Bhakts, Shri Bajrang Bali, The Chiranjeevi (immortal) whose devotion and love and seva (service) for Prabhu Shri Ram Ji knows no bounds.

It is the blessing of Hanuman Ji that an uncountable number of Hindus in nearly 500 years – including those who witnessed the brutal destruction of the Ram Mandir at the hands of Islamists in 1524 AD – continued their fight for Dharma to reinstate the Dashrathanandan to His rightful home.

It is unfathomable just how many and what kind of battles Hindus have fought in the centuries and decades that passed. The struggle for reclaiming and the revival of the Bhavya Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is one that has brought Hindus spiritually closest to Siyavar Ram Chandra than perhaps his subjects at the time could ever have gotten the chance.

And it is this very Bhakti (devotion) and love of His devotees for Him that pulled Prabhu Shri Ram Ji back into the loving arms of his motherland, for He was always in our hearts. Just imagine how strong and deep our pursuit for Him has been, right from 1524 AD to 9th November 2019 – that even the sword of a murderous ideology that hung over our heads every single day, could not keep Shri Ram Himself from coming home to us.

This Bhakti was not only ritualistic and traditional in terms of practice but was also psychological. When tyranny, bloodbath, rape, genocide, conversion, destruction and mutilation of Hindus and the Hindu faith had plunged our civilisation into the abyss of misplaced identity, the revered saints of the Bhakti movement rescued us and applied the salve of Ram and Krishna Bhajans.

For every fragment that pierced into our soul when the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was destroyed by Babur, the Ram and Krishna Bhajans and Kirtans written and sung by the great saints – namely Sant Dyaneshwar, Akka Mahadevi, Guru Nanak Dev, Basavanna, Ravidas, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Lalleshwari and Meera to name a few – were strengthening our faith that The ever-existing, infinite Maryada Purushottam can never be destroyed.

The divine echoes of the Bhakti movement are what got us through the British era, which was equally tyrannical if not worse than the Mughal period. At this point, the Bharatiya civilisation was battling not one but two rakshasas (demons) – the Islamists and the British Raj.

But by this time, the ripple effect of the Bhakti Movement had further gifted the Hindu civilisation great saints like Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Anandamayi Ma, Swami Brahmanand Saraswati, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Lahiri Mahasaya, Sant Tukaram, Sant Namdev, Swami Ramdas who helped the masses heal their wounds.

The Naamsmaran not only healed us but prepared us for the biggest civilisational battle that was yet to come. Times had changed, a free India was emerging albeit still gasping for air from the tentacles of the Nehru-Gandhi ‘Con’gress, of their left-liberal Islamist ecosystem.

But our faith was very much intact. So much so that even the politics post-Independence became a battle to attain Bhagwan Himself by fighting for Dharma, what can be more stronger than such Bhakti and Naamsmaran which can even make politics a movement of the masses? Every footsoldier of Bhagwan Shri Ram was fighting for Him.

From the Kar sevaks – who with roaring chants of Jai Shri Ram rightfully lay siege to the now non-existent symbol of jihadi Babur and his legacy and took bullets to their chest – to the lawyers, the intellectuals, the true historians and every artisan today building the Bhavya Ram Mandir, the unyielding Bhakti of Hindus had come to such fruition that a deep wound was healed on 9th November 2019 when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Shri Ram Lalla Virajman.

Exactly two months and 10 days on, Ayodhya will once again welcome Prabhu Shri Ram back home, just like it did in the Treta Yuga when He returned from his 14-year-long exile. So strong has been the Bhakti of His Bhakts that He is answering our call for a second time. The birthplace of The Lord will celebrate Deepotsav (the festival of lights) by lighting a whopping 24 lakh diyas on the ghats of Saryu river.

Imagine the magnificent scale of celebrations, come 22nd January 2024. The days and years since the 2019 verdict have been a victory for Hindus. The vitriol by the left-liberal Islamists has continued but as nothing more than white noise. Our Bhakti has essentially silenced their falsehoods and rants.

Moreover, the culmination of our journey from 1524 AD to 2019 into this spiritual and civilisational victory is nothing short of the grand manifestation of the deeply ingrained Bhakti in our souls.

We owe it to Ma Bhakti and the great saints who never let us forget our roots, that we have triumphed and prevailed thus far. We owe Ma Bhakti a great deal more yet in that we must celebrate every Hindu festival with the same fervour and with much more hope to heal and reinvigorate ourselves for many such battles of Dharma are waiting to be fought. Like they say, “Ayodhya toh bas jhanki hai, Kashi Mathura baaki hai.”

Madras HC quashes detention order against YouTuber Manish Kashyap, charges under NSA dropped but to be prosecuted under IT Act

0

The Madras High Court has set aside the detention order against YouTuber Manish Kashyap under the National Security Act (NSA) in connection with a fake video case.

Justice M Sundar and Justice R Sakthivel of the Madurai bench of the High Court on Friday dropped the proceedings against Kashyap under the NSA but allowed those under the Information Technology Act to continue.

While quashing the detention order, the HC observed that the authorities had not followed due procedure while detaining Kashyap under the NSA Act. The court thus directed Kashyap to be set at liberty if he was not needed in connection with any other case.

Manish Kashyap’s brother Tribhuvan Kumar Tiwari had filed a petition in the Madurai bench of Madras High Court seeking to quash the detention order.

In the petition, Delhi-based Tiwari sought to revoke the National Security Act against Kashyap.

“In 2018, my brother Manish Kashyap created a YouTube page called ‘Sach Tak News Channel’ and recorded the grievances and corruption of the people of Bihar in videos and created awareness through YouTube. Due to such activities, he became the most popular person on social media,” petitioner Tiwari claimed.

The petition further stated, “He (Kashyap) contested the 2020 Bihar assembly election and got 9239 votes. Bihar Police arrested Manish Kashyap in a case where he posted a video of Bihar workers being attacked in Tamil Nadu. Then they handed over the case to the Madurai Police. The Madurai police arrested Kashyap under the National Security Act and lodged him in the Madurai Central Jail. Also, the National Security Act against Manish should be revoked.”

The case pertains to a complaint lodged in connection with a fake video that was uploaded on YouTube in March this year claiming that migrant workers from Bihar were being assaulted in Tamil Nadu and that they were not safe in the state.

‘Husband loses wife in gambling during Dhanteras; another Mahabharat in Amroha:’ How media uses Hindu festival to highlight crime committed by a Muslim

The ‘secular-liberal’ media along with mastering the technique of giving a ‘Hindu spin’ to crimes committed by Muslims, have also expertised the skill of vilifying Hindus by bashing their festivals. The recent example of the media’s relentless efforts to demonize Hindus and the rituals and practices they cherish has surfaced on the auspicious day of Dhanteras this Diwali.

On November 10, when Hindus across the world celebrated Dhanteras, the first day that marks the festival of Diwali, News 24 Hindi published a post on how a husband lost his wife in gambling during Dhanteras. However, what the media house, conveniently chose to ignore is the name of the perpetrator, which in this case was one Sohail Ahmed. Diwali was exploited as a handy opportunity to highlight a crime that a Muslim had committed.

News24 took to X to share a post the caption of which was written in Hindi and roughly translated to, “Husband mortgages wife after losing in gambling. The incident took place in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. The woman’s brother came and saved her, case registered.”

Along with the caption, News24 Hindi, clearly insinuating that the crime was committed by a Hindu, posted a picture of a woman wearing a saree and jewellery. To further highlight that the crime was perpetrated by a Hindu on the occasion of the Hindu festival, the media house used hashtags like #viralstory, #crime and #Dhanteras.

Zee News Hindi went one step further and used a mocking headline to chronicle the incident, defaming the Mahabharata, one of the two great Sanskrit epics of ancient India that are revered in Hinduism. It headlined its report in Hindi, which roughly translates to “Another Mahabharata in Amroha. Husband loses wife in gambling.”

Without verifying details many other vernacular media houses like Amarujala, Jagran and TV9 Hindi also used the Hindu festival to highlight the crime that was actually perpetrated by a Muslim.

SS of report by Amarujala
SS of report published by Jagran
SS of story posted by TV9 Hindi

The misleading headlines published by these media houses allowed Islamists and leftist liberals to demonise Hindus and their festivals. While sharing the News24 post, Islamic fundamentalist Ali Sohrab took a jibe at Hindus by using hashtag #Sanskriti.

Similarly, Deepa Samrat mocked Hindus by captioning her post “Sanskari Samaj.” Meanwhile, using the same post, Mushtaq Ahmed extolled the virtues of his faith and declared that alcohol and gambling are forbidden in Islam. He kind of characterized Hindus as drunks and gamblers. Another Islamist X user Sajid Ali went on to utilise the opportunity to target the Sanatan Dharma as a whole.

The truth, however, is far from what was peddled by the ‘liberal-secular’ media. Since the incident incidentally happened on Dhanteras, the media wasted no time indulging in their usual antics of bashing it by associating it with the crime. But what these media houses conveniently hid in their effort to vilify the Hindus and their festival is that it was a Muslim man NOT a Hindu who had mortgaged his wife after losing in gambling.

The Amroha police took to X on November 11 to bust the lie peddled by News24 Hindi. It clarified that one Sohail Ahmed was the perpetrator. His wife had, in fact, also filed a complaint with the Amroha police accusing her husband and her in-laws of harassing her for dowry.

Although it is extremely unfortunate that the media, without even attempting to confirm the facts, took advantage of a Hindu festival to report a crime perpetrated by a Muslim, this is something which these ‘secular-liberal’ media houses indulge in doing on a regular basis.

For example, the fake news website ‘The Quint’ had once proceeded to brand the Holi festival as an occasion used by kids to unleash terror on the streets. Another notorious media outlet, Scroll. known for its anti-Hindu inclinations had resorted to publishing a post sending those celebrating the festival of Holi on a guilt trip by pointing out the terrible water crisis gripping the country. Likewise, The Wire, which had come up with the semen-filled balloon theory and carried a post that said, “The festival of Holi perpetuates rape culture”.

Even, Deepavali has time and again come under the scrutiny of the ‘liberal-secular’ media. The champions of secularism have made a common point against celebrating Deepavali by accusing Hindus of causing pollution and serious harm to the health of kids and adults alike by bursting crackers.

In addition to that, the ecosystem often reminds us how animals feel threatened and disturbed by loud noises during Deepavali. On Diwali, the Quint published an article claiming that firecrackers should be done away with as there’s nothing religious about them. The Wire known for its anti-Hindu inclinations fretted over pollution caused by the bursting of crackers that accompany the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Iceland declares ‘state of emergency’ after being hit by 4000 earthquakes within a few hours, coastal town evacuated anticipating volcanic eruption

0

On 10th November (Friday), Iceland declared a ‘state of emergency’ after nearly 4,000 small and medium intensity earthquakes jolted the southwest Reykjanes peninsula in the country. The intensity of the biggest tremor was recorded at around 5.2 magnitude. This has increased the risk of a volcanic eruption in the nation inhabiting around 4,000 people.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO), around 24,000 tremors have been recorded on the peninsula since late October with “a dense swarm” of nearly 800 Earthquakes recorded between midnight and 2 p.m. GMT Friday.

The majority of the seismic activity has been concentrated in Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula. It had remained dormant to volcanic activity for 800 years until eruptions in March 2021, followed by another in August 2022 and the third one in July 2023. Notably, Iceland also has 33 active volcanic systems, which is the highest in Europe.

Following the series of tremors, police officials and authorities urged thousands of its residents to evacuate the coastal town of Grindavík fearing a risk of a possible volcanic eruption.

The Civil Protection Agency said, “Earthquakes may become bigger than those that have already occurred, and this sequence of events could lead to an eruption. However, there are still no signs that the magma is nearing the surface. Its progress is being closely monitored.”

However, they asked residents to remain calm as they had enough time to prepare and secure their belongings. As per the IMO, the possible volcanic eruptions in Iceland could take place “in several days”.

The Civil Protection Agency said, “We want to reiterate that residents MUST evacuate their homes and leave the town. But we also want to reiterate that this is not an emergency evacuation, there is plenty of time to prepare, secure things, and drive out of town calmly.”

It added, “It is clear that we are dealing with events that we Icelanders have not experienced before, at least not since the eruption in Vestmannaeyjar. We faced that together, we will face this together and we will not lose heart.”

But, in a statement on Friday, the IMO stressed that “significant changes have occurred in the seismic activity”, with tremors moving towards Grindavík over the course of the day. It added that magma has likely extended beneath the town and it was “not possible to determine exactly” whether or where it could emerge.

Earlier on Thursday (9th November), the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa which is one of Iceland’s biggest tourist attractions was closed temporarily due to the possibility of volcanic eruptions.

During July, Litli-Hrutur, also known as Little Ram, experienced an eruption in the Fagradalsfjall area, attracting tourists to witness the emergence of the “world’s newest baby volcano.”

Magma is a mixture of molten and semi-molten rock located beneath the Earth’s surface. It can trigger volcanic eruptions as it ascends to the surface and transforms into lava. These eruptions happen when the comparatively lighter magma rises from deep beneath the Earth to its surface through the solid rock surrounding it.

The impact of these seismic activities in Iceland could be understood from the fact that in April 2010, over ten million people found themselves stranded when almost 100,000 flights were cancelled globally after a colossal volcanic eruption took place in the southern region of Iceland.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, International media widely reported the formation of a new island off the Japanese coast. Japan has gained another island to add to its already impressive collection after an undersea volcanic eruption 1,200km (745 miles) south of Tokyo created a new landmass, The Guardian reported on 9th November.

According to experts, the tiny island emerged after a series of eruptions that began in October near Iwoto island, part of the Ogasawara island chain in the western Pacific.

UP: Muskaan Siddiqui embraces Hinduism after seeing brutality of Hamas terrorists, becomes Muskaan Maurya and marries Hindu lover in Sitapur

0

In the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim girl named Muskaan Siddiqui embraced Hindu Dharma and married her Hindu lover Shishupal Maurya on Friday (10th November). The two got married as per Hindu rituals in the presence of Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena chief Vikar Hindu. The girl said that she decided to leave Islam and become a Hindu after seeing the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists in Israel.

The 23-year-old girl is a resident of Katra in Shahjahanpur while her Hindu husband is a resident of Maholi Chadhiya village under the Maholi police station precinct. Muskaan and Shishupal grew close while working at a factory in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar. Muskaan Siddiqui who changed her name to Muskaan Maurya, submitted an affidavit confirming that she reverted to Hinduism at her own free will and was not tricked into or forced to change her religion.

In her affidavit, Muskaan said that she was disturbed and frustrated by the way Palestinian terrorist group Hamas inflicted atrocities on Israeli women during its brutal attack on Israel on October 7. On Friday, the couple signed the marriage agreement confirming their marriage legally. They vowed to spend their lives together as life partners and that in future, their children will get legal share in the property of Shishupal Maurya.

The duo tied the knot at a Kali Mandir in Ramkot police station area. The wedding rituals were performed by Arya Samaj. A video of Muskaan Siddiqui (now Muskaan Maurya) has also surfaced in which she is heard saying that Hamas’s brutalities against Israeli women prompted her to leave Islam and embrace Hindu Dharma. It is notable that Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena activists have helped many Muslim girls who decided to perform gharwapsi to Hindu Dharma.

Uttarakhand govt to call special Assembly Session to implement UCC; draft includes ban on polygamy, registration of live-in relationships

The Uttarakhand government will soon convene a special session of its Legislative Assembly, media widely reported on 11th November (Saturday). The special session will be held a week after Diwali and it will discuss and pass the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill granting it legal status.

Uttarakhand is set to become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code next week, sources said.

The five-member committee, led by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai, would submit a report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the next couple of days, they added.

According to the media reports, the draft has laid emphasis on gender equality and equal rights for daughters in ancestral properties. However, the committee recommends that the marriageable age for women should be retained as 18 rather than raising it to 21.

The source said, “It is to formulate one law that is applicable to all religions in matters related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.”

The broader focus of the bill is on uniformity in personal laws such as marriage registration, divorce, property rights, inter-state property rights, maintenance, custody of children, etc. Additionally, the government also seeks to ban polygamy completely in the draft bill and there is a provision for live-in couples to register their relationship, NDTV reported citing their sources.

Meanwhile, the proposed legislation would neither touch upon any religious customs for marriages nor dwell upon other rituals.

Moreover, India Today citing sources reported that, mirroring Uttarakhand, Gujarat is also contemplating to adopt the Uniform Civil Code before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. If executed, Gujarat would become the second state to enforce the Uniform Civil Code. Media reports further suggest that the Union government may use the Uttarakhand government’s draft while formulating its own Uniform Civil Code Bill, slated to be introduced at a later stage.

It is important to note that on 27th May 2022, the Uttarakhand government set up the expert committee for the implementation of the UCC. It mandated the committee to check all relevant laws that control personal citizen matters for people living in the state.

This stemmed from the fact that the implementation of UCC was one of the major poll promises of the BJP in the run-up to the state Assembly elections last year. As a result, the committee was announced after the first Cabinet meeting of the newly-formed Uttarakhand government led by Pushkar Singh Dhami.

8 of the 12 fishermen arrested by the Maldives repatriated to India, High Commission continues efforts to release the rest 4

In a proactive move to address the concerns of 12 Indian fishermen stranded in the Maldives, the High Commission of India has “facilitated the repatriation” of eight individuals who expressed interest in returning to India immediately.

The High Commission took swift action following the fishermen’s predicament, liaising actively with Maldivian authorities to ensure a “speedy resolution” to the matter. The diplomatic efforts of the Indian High Commission in Maldives have played a crucial role in navigating the challenges faced by the fishermen.

“Update on 12 Indian Fishermen in Maldives: @HCIMaldives has facilitated the repatriation of 8 fishermen today who had expressed interest in returning to India immediately. Also liaising actively with Maldivian authorities for speedy resolution of the matter,” posted High Commission of India in Maldives on X.

The fishermen, who found themselves in a challenging situation, were provided with the necessary support and assistance by the High Commission. The diplomatic channel’s efficiency in addressing the immediate concerns of these individuals underscores the strong ties and effective collaboration between India and the Maldives.

Efforts are underway to resolve the situation for the remaining four fishermen, and the High Commission continues to work closely with the Maldivian authorities to ensure their prompt and safe return to India.

Earlier, on October 27, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to secure the release of twelve fishermen of the state arrested by the Maldivian authorities allegedly for straying into their territorial waters.

The men hailing from Tharuvaikulam in southern Thoothukudi district were fishing in the southern Arabian Sea.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support in standing by our Tamil fishermen during the challenging times and prioritising their safety in the High Seas. We bring to your attention the arrest of 12 fishermen from Tuticorin by the Maldivian Coast Guards on the 27th of October, 2023.
