‘Stop the procession…Hindus should not go back alive’: FIR details how a Muslim mob attacked the Shiv Yatra in Kheda, Gujarat

On September 15, on the last day of the auspicious month of Shravan, Islamists attacked a Lord Shiva procession in the Thasra area in the Kheda district in Gujarat. According to reports, stones were pelted from a Madarsa when the Hindu devotees were taking out the procession from the area. Several people including three policemen were injured in the incident.

Three FIRs regarding the incident have been lodged at the Thasara police station, copies of which are with OpIndia. The FIR revealed that the Muslim mob first got into an altercation with the Hindu devotees and forced the latter to stop the DJ music being played during the yatra. After that, they attacked the ‘Shivji ki Savari’ with stones and bricks when it passed the Madarsa in the area.

The FIR filed by a Hindu devotee named Vijay Parmar detailed what exactly transpired on the day of the incident. It stated that the procession of Lord Shiva takes place every year on the last day of Shravan month in Thasra. This year too, after obtaining all the necessary legal permissions the yatra started at around 11.30 am on Friday.

All legal permission required to carry out the yatra had been attained only after which the yatra was being carried out. Like every year, this year too, the procession began at the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple and was expected to return there after travelling through Baghi, Baliadeva Temple, Ramchowk, Tower Bazar, Hussaini Chowk, Holi Chakala, Tinbatti and Ashapuri Temple.

The event drew a large crowd, including women and children of all ages. According to rough estimates as many as 1,000 Hindu devotees from Thasara and adjacent villages participated in the celebration.

Two DJs were arranged for the yatra, and an adequate police force was given from Thasara police station along the entire route. The Yatra began at Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, proceeded via Balidev Temple, Ramchowk, Tower Bazar, Hussaini Chowk, Holi Chakla, and reached the Tinbatti Chowk (city square) at around 3:30 p.m.

According to the FIR, when the procession reached the Tinbatti Chowk as many as 50 people belonging to the Muslim community led by Municipality Member Mohammad Abrar Riazuddin Syed and Aspak Belim Syed approached the procession and demanded that the Hindus should stop playing the DJ since their Madarsa was close by. This resulted in a minor conflict between both parties, but the Hindus soon agreed and stopped playing the devotional songs on the DJ. Regardless, when the procession passed the Madarsa, stones and bricks were thrown from the Madarsa’s roof and nearby houses.

Stones and bricks were thrown from the roofs of the Madrasa and nearby buildings in Kheda, Gujarat

The FIR further read that as the yatra was approaching the Madarsa, Muslim men and women congregated on the roofs of the madrasa and nearby buildings and incited their fellow community members by yelling slogans such as “Stop… stop the Hindu procession. Hindus must not return alive today.” Suddenly, big stones and bricks began to rain down on the yatra.

The police officials deployed there, as well as the yatra organisers tried their best to pacify the enraged Muslim mob so that they stop the stone pelting, but they persisted, resulting in the grave injury of three Thasara police officers and several other Hindu devotees participating in the yatra.

As the situation deteriorated, a convoy of additional police officers was rushed in, seeing which the stone-pelters fled by scaling down from the roofs of the Madrasa and neighbouring buildings.

The FIR was filed against 17 identified and 50 unidentified miscreants under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 153A, 295A, 323, 324, 504, 505, 506(2) of IPC at Thasara Police Station. The 17 people named in the FIR are- Muhammad Abrar Riazuddin Syed, Aspak Majimmiyan Belim, Zaid Ali Muhammad Ali Syed, Atiq Malek, Ahad Syed, Haroon Pathan, Rookmuddin Riaqatali Syed, Feroze Majit Khan Pathan, Idrish, Naved, Junaid, Tanveer Syed, Faizan Syed, Foam battery, Jabir Khan Inayat Khan Pathan, Chicken, Altaf Khan Mukhtyar Khan Pathan.

Notably, in our previous report we mentioned how the yatra’s organizer, Mahant Vijaydasji, expressed his concern that the attack was pre-planned.

Canada postpones October trade mission to India due to “certain political developments”

0

Canada has announced that it would postpone an October trade mission to India, Al Jazeera reported.

A spokesperson for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng confirmed the change on Friday, though no reason was offered for the delay.

The spokesperson, Shanti Cosentino, said: “At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India.”

This comes at a time when negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and Canada have been stalled, sources informed on Friday.

The sources cited “certain political developments” in Canada as the reason for the pause in the negotiations, and added talks will resume once issues are settled between both the governments.

There were reports earlier that the two countries could reach an interim trade deal by the end of this year.

Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng and her Indian counterpart Piyush Goyal in May issued a joint statement saying they hoped to boost trade and investment between their two countries by the year’s end.

But those talks have hit several high-level snags, as per Al Jazeera.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a pull-aside discussion with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit raised “strong concerns” about the continuous “anti-India activities” by extremist elements in Canada.

Prime Minister Modi stated that it was essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats.

“The Prime Minister conveyed our strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada. They are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship,” said an official statement after the Modi-Trudeau meeting.

While Trudeau was in India for the G20 Summit, Khalistani secessionists held a so-called ‘referendum’ in Surrey, British Columbia.

The separatists used objectionable language against Indian leadership and made remarks against the territorial integrity of India.

Recently, a Hindu temple was vandalised in Canada by extremist elements with Khalistan referendum posters, Australia Today reported.

The incident happened in British Columbia province in Canada.

“#Breaking Another #Hindu temple vandalised in #Canada by #Khalistan extremists – bogus #Khalistanreferendum posters put at door of @surreymandir to create fear among #Indian community,” Australia Today said on Twitter.

NIA raids 30 locations in Tamil Nadu and Telangana in ISIS radicalization and recruitment case

0

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 30 locations in Tamil Nadu and Telangana on Saturday in an ISIS radicalization and recruitment case.

NIA’s sleuths carried out these searches at 21 locations in Coimbatore, three in Chennai, and one location in Tenkasi– all in Tamil Nadu. Besides, the agency searched five places in Hyderabad in Telangana, sources in the agency told ANI.

These searches were conducted at the premises of persons connected to the case following fresh evidence about an ISIS module which could have links to the Coimbatore suspects.

Earlier this month, the NIA had arrested an accused linked with the ISIS-inspired Car IED bomb blast of Coimbatore for his involvement in the 2022 terror attack. He was identified as Mohammed Azarudeen alias Azar. He was the 13th person to be arrested in the case.

The NIA took over and re-registered the case on October 27 in 2022.

The Coimbatore car bomb blast had taken place on October 23 last year in front of an ancient Temple, Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil, at Eswaran Kovil Street, Ukkadam, Coimbatore. The Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosives Device (VBIED) was being driven by the deceased accused Jamesha Mubeen.

Mubeen and his associates were inspired by hardcore ISIS ideology to conspire and commit the act of terror after taking ‘bayath’ or allegiance to its self-proclaimed Caliph Abu-Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi. As per NIA investigations, the accused had intended to take revenge on the Kafirs (non-believers of Islam) through this terror attack.

NIA has so far filed two chargesheets in the case before the NIA Court, Poonamallee, Chennai. Six accused were chargesheeted on April 20 this year and five on June 2 thos year. The 12th accused, Mohammed Idris, was arrested on August 2 this year.

Crackdown on child marriages: 17 fake ‘qazis’ arrested in Assam’s Hailakandi district

0

The crackdown on child marriage in Assam continues with the arrest of 17 individuals who were masquerading as qazis in the Hailakandi region on September 13. The police carried out the operation as part of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s pledge to end child marriage in the state by 2026.

The detention of these fake qazis throughout the Hailakandi district has given the campaign against child marriage greater momentum. Fifteen of them are identified as Azir Uddin Laskar, Mufti Abul Hussain, Asadullah Laskar, Kausar Ahmed, Abdul Jalil Laskar, Sorif Uddin Barbuya, Nurul Hoque Laskar, Abdus Asalam Mazumdar, Ubeidulla Choudhary, Abu Bakhar Barbhuiya, Aftab Uddin Laskar, Moin Uddin Chowdhury, Mujakir Hussain Mazumdar, Sahidul Haque Bilaipur, and Foiz Uddin Laskar.

Hailakandi Police informed, “A case has been registered. Various documents have also been seized during the operation. Further legal action is on.” Ten Kaboolnamas (Muslim marriage contracts) have also been seized by the authorities from their possession. The ‘qazis’ are presently being interrogated by the police.

An official stated, “It has been found that the detained men have no registration to solemnise Muslim marriages. Moreover, it’s suspected that they were involved in many cases of child marriages in the district.”

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier imposed severe sanctions against child marriage in the state.

CM Sarma has been leading the state’s initiatives to prevent child marriage. He announced earlier this month that he would start undertaking tough crackdowns on child marriage every six months. He has reaffirmed his intention to conduct “big arrests” during the forthcoming drives which are scheduled to start later this month.

He had revealed that the draft is under preparation and by December, Assam is going to witness the end of polygamy and child marriages.

The CM stressed the value of ongoing efforts to end child marriage while discussing the ongoing campaign with the media. “Our campaign against child marriage will take place every six months. The next drive will be launched this month. The police are doing their job, and you will hear about some big arrests once the drive is launched”, the CM said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also remarked that the state is currently only against polygamy and child marriage and is not adhering to the Uniform Civil Code. He promised that a measure to outlaw the practice would be ready within the next 45 days and the state legislature is expected to hear it in December.

Bollywood stars including Vishal Dadlani, Tiger Shroff, and Sunny Leone performed at scam-tainted Mahadev App owner’s wedding in UAE

On Friday, 15th September 2023, Enforcement Directorate (ED) sources revealed that several Bollywood celebrities, including singers, dancers, and actors attended the wedding ceremony of the scam-accused owner of Mahadev Betting App Saurabh Chandrakar. The wedding took place in UAE in February 2023.

This information was uncovered during ED’s probe in the scam worth hundreds of crores in which Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal are key accused. These two accused are the owners of the Mahadev Online Book Betting application which is an umbrella syndicate arranging online platforms for allegedly enabling illegal betting websites.

The celebrities attending the wedding of the scam-accused Saurabh Chandrakarincluded Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Asgar, Vishal Dadlani, Tiger Shroff, Elli AvrRam, Bharti Singh, Sunny Leone, Bhagyashree, Kriti Kharbanda, Neha Kakkar, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Krushna Abhishek. They were performing at the accused money launderer’s wedding. ED is also likely to summon them and inquire about the payments received for the performance.

The Mahadev Book app, an online betting platform of Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, is currently under investigation by both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and multiple state police departments. According to ED sources, the app had engaged actors and singers, compensating them through a Mumbai-based event company.

Based on digital evidence gathered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), it has come to light that a substantial sum of Rs 112 crore was transferred via hawala channels to an event management company known as M/s R-1 Events Pvt. Ltd., which is owned by Yogesh Popat. Additionally, hotel bookings worth Rs 42 crore were settled in cash using United Arab Emirates dirhams. As a result of these findings, the ED conducted searches at the residences of Yogesh Popat, an individual named Mithilesh, and other affiliated organisers. During these operations, unaccounted cash totalling Rs 2.37 crore was seized.

Further investigation revealed a concerning pattern where numerous celebrities endorsed various betting entities and performed at their events in exchange for substantial fees. These payments often went through convoluted transactions but ultimately originated from the earnings generated by online betting. It is alleged that the event management company, M/s R-1 Events Pvt. Ltd., received payments through hawala channels to facilitate the participation and performances of these celebrities at the wedding event.

Additionally, these sources revealed that the promoters of the Mahadev app went to great lengths, spending approximately Rs 200 crore in cash to fund Chandrakar’s wedding. This even involved the hiring of private jets to transport family members and others attending the wedding from Nagpur to the UAE.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also conducted searches at M/s Rapid Travels in Bhopal, which is owned by Dheeraj Ahuja and Vishal Ahuja. This company was responsible for handling all ticketing operations related to the Mahadev app promoters, their families, business associates, and celebrities associated with betting websites. The Ahuja brothers allegedly funnelled the illicit cash earnings from the betting panels into the primary ticket providers, utilizing the wallet balance to book both domestic and international tickets.

M/s Rapid Travels played a pivotal role in orchestrating travel arrangements for numerous events hosted by the Mahadev group, including the high-profile annual gatherings held in the UAE in September 2022, which featured a constellation of celebrities.

Who else is accused of the money laundering

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made significant progress in identifying key figures involved in the money laundering operations of the Mahadev Online Book App. It has been determined that Vikash Chhaparia, based in Kolkata, was overseeing all hawala-related activities for the Mahadev app. The ED conducted searches at the known residences of both Vikash Chhaparia and his associate, Govind Kedia.

During these investigations, it was uncovered that Vikas Chhaparia, with the assistance of Govind Kedia, utilised his entities, namely M/s Perfect Plan Investments LLP, M/s Exim General Trading FZCO, and M/s Techpro IT Solutions LLC, to make substantial investments in the Indian stock market through the Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) route. Consequently, cash derivatives and other securities valued at Rs 236.3 crore, held under the names of entities that Vikas Chhaparia had a beneficial interest in, have been frozen by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002.

Additionally, assets totalling Rs 160 crore in the demat holdings linked to Govind Kumar Kedia have been frozen by the ED under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002. The searches conducted at the properties of Govind Kumar Kedia also resulted in the confiscation of Indian currency amounting to Rs 18 lakhs, as well as gold and jewellery valued at Rs 13 crore.

Assets worth Rs 417 crore have been seized by the ED so far

As of today, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has carried out search operations at 39 different locations spanning Raipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, and Kolkata. During these operations, illicit assets with a total value of Rs 417 crore have been seized. Furthermore, the ED has commenced investigations on an international scale, and the PMLA Special Court in Raipur has issued Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) against individuals who are currently evading authorities.

Saurabh Chandrakar, Ravi Uppal, and the Mahadev Betting App

Saurabh Chandrakar and his associate, Ravi Uppal, are among the wanted suspects in India. Allegedly, they have been operating their Mahadev online book platform from Dubai. Both of them are originally from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh.

The two, before working as local bookies, ran small juice stalls and tire stores. Now, they have purportedly accumulated a wealth exceeding Rs 6,000 crore through the Mahadev Book app. The ED probe reveals Mahadev Online Book App operates from a UAE central office. The two accused migrated to Dubai in 2018 and started this app enticing students, jobless, and farmers with quick earnings. The app bypassed Indian regulations, permitting credit cards, UPI, debit cards, and bank transfers for betting.

Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal ingeniously utilised dormant or partially active accounts for a nominal fee, complicating the tracking of large transactions across numerous accounts. Over recent years, the app facilitated their expansion, leading them to dominate India’s illicit offshore gambling sector. They acquired brands like FairPlay, Reddy Anna, and Lotus365 and introduced innovative brands such as ‘Betbhai’ and ‘Ambani Book.’

Niger: French ambassador held hostage, denied food after Emmanuel Macron refuses to recall its diplomats. Here is what we know so far

On Friday (September 15), French President Emmanuel Macron informed the media that the country’s ambassador Sylvain Itte and other diplomats had been held hostage at the French embassy in Niamey in Niger.

The development came months after the military junta in the West African nation ousted the incumbent President Mohamed Bazoum in a coup d’état. Macron stated that the French diplomats were forced to eat military rations and that food was prevented from being delivered to the embassy.

He added, “As we speak, we have an ambassador and diplomatic staff who are literally being held hostage in the French embassy.” In a video that has surfaced on social media, attempts to deliver food to the embassy were thwarted by Niger’s military junta.

“(Sylvain Itte) cannot go out, he is persona non grata and he is being refused food,” the French President was also heard saying. In late August 2023, French ambassador Sylvain Itte was directed to leave Niger by the country’s new self-proclaimed leader Abdourahamane Tchiani.

His visa was revoked and the cops were directed to expel the French ambassador. However, Macron refused to comply, a decision which was also supported by the European Union (EU).

France also condemned the military coup in Niger and vowed to negotiate the situation only with ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. “I will do whatever we agree on with President Bazoum because he is the legitimate authority and I speak with him every day,” Macron had said.

Amidst the growing anti-French sentiment in Niger, a video of Sylvain Itte being booed by local residents in Niamey has now surfaced on social media. Reportedly, there are about 1,500 French soldiers in the West African nation.

Coup d’état in Niger and its aftermath

On July 26, the military of Niger, led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, who was the former chief of the Presidential Guard, seized power in the Sahel nation by removing President Mohammad Bazoum. Bazoum has been in detention since.

As per reports, a diplomatic mission, led by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland had travelled to Niger’s capital Nimaye. However, they could only meet the new military chief of staff  Brigadier General Moussa Salaou Barmou, not the new leader General Abdourahamane Tchiani or the deposed President Bazoum.

As per reports, the Niger military leaders, who now rule the country, dismissed the threats of economic sanctions and withdrawal of military and financial help from the USA. Nigers’ military leadership has defied all threats and deadlines to reinstate the President.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) convened an emergency meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, on July 30th, demanding the immediate release and reinstatement of Mohamed Bazoum.

ECOWAS, a regional bloc, issued a one-week ultimatum to the military authorities in Niger, insisting on their compliance and warning of potential actions, including the use of force, to restore constitutional order.

This coup d’état poses a significant threat to peace and stability, not only in Niger but also in the wider Sahel region. The recent coup reflects deeper issues within the country, including ethnic tensions, the presence of foreign forces, and the limitations of regional organizations.

Insecurity and economic stagnation have contributed to the country’s fragility, despite the presence of foreign military forces, notably from the US and France. These forces have been unable to quell insurgent attacks by groups such as Al-Qaeda, Islamic State affiliates, and Boko Haram, resulting in numerous casualties and displacements over the past decade.

The implications of the recent coup are far-reaching, affecting Niger’s international alliances and efforts to address security and migration challenges. The new military leadership may seek to leverage these issues in negotiations and to legitimize their regime.

India strongly condemns assault on Sikh student in Canada, calls for prompt action

0

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver has strongly condemned the assault on a Sikh student in Canada’s British Columbia province and called for prompt action against perpetrators.

The 17-year-old Sikh student was either “beer or pepper sprayed” by another teenage student after exiting a public transit bus on his way home on September 11.

The Indian student was assaulted at the intersection of Rutland Rd S and Robson Rd E in Canada’s British Columbia, according to a statement by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver stated, “@cgivancouver strongly condemns assault on an Indian national in Kelowna and requests Canadian authorities to investigate the incident and take prompt action against the perpetrators.”

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in a statement said, “On September 11th, 2023, just before 4:00pm, Kelowna RCMP were dispatched to a pepper spray incident at the intersection of Rutland Rd S and Robson Rd E. Officers determined a 17-year old Sikh student was either bear or pepper sprayed by another teenaged male after exiting a public transit bus on his way home.”

It said there was an altercation on the bus prior to the beer spray incident which resulted in those involved being directed off the bus. Police said that several witness statements have been obtained and the teenaged suspect has been identified.

“After exiting the bus, a second incident occurred where the suspect male deployed bear spray on the victim,” it said. The statement further said, “Bystanders called the police who attended and are actively investigating this incident. Several witness statements have been obtained and the teenaged suspect in this incident has already been identified.”

According to the statement, investigators are still collecting CCTV evidence and other relevant information including taking steps to determine the motivation behind crime.

Speaking to CBC News, Kelowna City Councillor Mohini Singh said that the student had only been in the city for around five months and spoke little English.

She termed the attack “totally unacceptable.” She said that the student is in a “state of shock” and is “absolutely traumatized.”

“He loves going to school. He has a great rapport with his teachers. No problem there,” she said. “He is absolutely traumatized. He’s in a state of shock,” CBC News quoted Mohini Singh as saying.

Mohini Singh said she met the teenager, and that he was hardly able to lift his head from his chest. She said, “This has sent shockwaves through the community,” the councillor said. “The Indo-Canadian community is shocked by this … this is absolutely despicable.”

It’s the second attack on a Sikh student in the central Interior city this year. On March 17, another Indian Sikh student Gagandeep Singh was also attacked, according to CBC News report. At the time, Royal Canadian Mounted Police said investigators were carrying out consultations with their hate crimes unit.

UK to ban American XL Bully dog by the end of the year after a series of fatal attacks, announces PM Rishi Sunak

0

The UK will ban the American XL Bully dog by the end of the year, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced. It comes after a man died in England in a suspected attack by a XL bully dog on Thursday, the latest such incident.

PM Sunak said on Friday that he has ordered to legally define the breed of the dog behind the recent attacks so it can be banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act. The act applies in England, Wales and Scotland.

While the American XL Bully dog is specified as a breed in the USA, it is not defined as a specific breed in the UK by British dog associations. Therefore, defining it as a specific breed will be the necessary first step before banning it in the UK. The dog started to appear in the UK only around 2014-15, but their numbers are growing rapidly.

“The American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities, particularly to our children” Rishi Sunak wrote on X along with a video message. “It’s clear this is not about a handful of badly trained dogs, it’s a pattern of behaviour and it cannot go on,” Sunak said in the video message.

Sunak said that the decision to ban the dog was taken after a fatal dog attack on Thursday in Walsall in England’s West Midlands region. He added that after the breed is defined as a breed, new laws will be in place by the end of the year to ban it. “These dogs are dangerous. I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe,” the PM added.

While it is believed that two XL Bully dogs were behind the Thursday attack, it is yet to be confirmed. However, the breed has been linked with several dog attack cases in the UK, including fatal cases.

An 11-year-old girl was attacked by an American bully XL in Birmingham on Saturday. Two men who intervened to save the girl were also treated in hospital after being bitten by the animal. In April, a 65-year-old woman was killed after she tried to break up a fight between her two American Bullies at her home in Liverpool. According to reports, more than half of all fatal dog attacks in the UK are caused by this breed.

XL is the largest of the four types of American Bully dogs, the other three being standard, pocket and, classic. American XL bully can weigh upto 60 kg, and can easily overpower an adult person. American Bullies are the result of cross-breeding between American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers.

Due to cases of attacks, American XL Bully dogs are already banned in some other countries such as Turkey and UAE. In some other countries including Ireland there are restrictions on their ownership, requiting them to be muzzled and lashed when out in public.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Act of the UK, some other breeds have been banned, including Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentinos, and Fila Brazileiro. Crossbreeds of the banned breeds are also banned under this law.

Not just maths, Priyanka Chaturvedi needs to take lessons on cricket and English too as she asks BCCI to regard Indo-Pak match at WC as ‘bilateral’

0

Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi thought she had an intelligent retort when she decided to respond to Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s comments that no bilateral cricketing series will take place between India and Pakistan until Islamabad pulls the plug on terrorism.

With the advent of the internet, particularly with the arrival of social media, users are driven into making quick responses with what they perceive as a sharp riposte, one that is aimed at outfoxing their opponents, often when they don’t fully grasp concepts and topics under discussion and only ends up exposing their lack of understanding.

A similar behavioural incident took place today when Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi tried to weigh in on the subject of Indo-Pakistan cricketing ties, an issue she seemed little understanding and knowledge about, if her tweets are to be believed.

In the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister Anurag Thakur issued a clarification that BCCI had decided much earlier that they wouldn’t engage with Pakistan’s cricket team in bilateral series until there is an end to terrorism, cross-border attacks and infiltration.

Ms Chaturvedi quoted the ANI tweet of Thakur’s statement and asked if the World Cup match between India and Pakistan that is scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad in mid October be considered bilateral and cancelled in respect of the sentiment of the nation. She further added that BCCI should clarify and so should Thakur being a minister.

Priyanka Chaturvedi’s tweet provides a profound insight into her understanding or lack thereof on matters related to cricket and English. Or she is just jaundiced against the present regime so much so that she doesn’t mind becoming a butt of all jokes in her efforts to outwit her political opponent.

The cricket World Cup scheduled in India later this year is an ICC tournament, a multi-nation contest where cricketing teams from across the world vie for the coveted cup that takes place once in every four years. India and Pakistan are clubbed under the same group by the ICC, and the two team would lock horns in Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on October 14.

Ms Chaturvedi suggested if the World Cup match be regarded as a bilateral match between India and Pakistan and if the BCCI would cancel it with respect to the sentiments of the nation.

For starters, the match between India and Pakistan cannot be considered as bilateral since the two nations are playing in a multi-lateral tournament that is governed by the apex cricketing body, ICC. Ms Chaturvedi seems to have little understanding of what bilateral means or the difference between a bilateral series and multinational tournament.

A user on X, formerly known as Twitter, mocked Ms Priyanka asking her to refer to an Oxford Dictionary to know what ‘bilateral’ means.

Ms Chaturvedi responded to the user’s tweet, only to confirm the suspicion that she indeed is confused about what constitutes a bilateral cricketing series and how different it is from a multi-nation tournament.

The Shiv Sena MP claimed that the Union Minister had lied about Asia Cup when he said the last time India and Pakistan played a bilateral series was in 2012-2013 and since then the two teams have faced-off only in ICC and Asia Cup events. She further said that India had last toured Pakistan in 2006.

Ms Chaturvedi then goes on to cite BCCI secretary Jay Shah who had said in August that India wouldn’t be touring Pakistan for the Asia Cup if their matches are held in Pakistan. India agreed to be a part of Asia Cup only when it was agreed upon by the participating nations to conduct a hybrid model with India’s matches being played in Sri Lanka.

It is difficult to understand what Ms Chaturvedi wants to say or perhaps she is simply digging her heels in after being mocked at for conflating a bilateral series with a multilateral tournament. India and Pakistan played their last bilateral series in 2012-2013 when the Pakistan cricket team had toured India. A bilateral series in cricketing parlance means cricket teams of two boards clashing with each other at a mutually agreed venue, with no involvement of any other third party.

The Asia Cup is governed by the Asian Cricket Council, with Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and other associate nations being part of it besides India and Pakistan. Similarly, the World Cup is governed by the International Cricket Council, which encompasses all cricket-playing nations from across the world, including Australia, South Africa, West Indies, England, etc.

Nevertheless, India still has an option of opting out of playing Pakistan in their World Cup clash, but in that case, the match does not get cancelled. India will have to forfeit their contest, which means Pakistan will be declared the winner even without playing the match, besides the penalty the ICC could impose on BCCI for abandoning the competition.

This is the primary reason why the BCCI’s team has been playing against Pakistan cricket team in multination tournament since the strained relationship between the two countries since the Mumbai 2008 attacks.

However, just like her poor grip on maths, Priyanka Chaturvedi has little understanding of cricket and English too. It is time that she visit the school again and pay attention in her classes.

Priyanka Chaturvedi and her complicated relationship with maths

Priyanka Chaturvedi has quite often displayed her poor understanding of Mathematics. During the migrant crisis following the Coronavirus lockdown, she falsely claimed that the Modi government amassed huge profits by running special trains for migrant workers.

The Sena leader failed to comprehend the difference between the ‘revenue earned’ and ‘profit’. Contrary to the claims of Priyanka Chaturvedi that the Indian Railways earned huge profits, the Railways has spent Rs 2,142 crore on running Shramik Special trains but earned a ‘revenue’ of just Rs 429 crore and did not incur any ‘profit’. In fact, the Modi government had incurred a loss of nearly Rs 1,700 crores after it ran Shramik trains to ferry back the stranded migrant labours from various parts of the country.

As early as 2014, she was seen misreading numbers and portraying growth as an impediment of Modi government’s Achhe Din.

She had said how Index of Industrial Production for consumer goods had gone from -23.4 in June 2014 to -20.9 in July 2014 – which is actually an increase in the index, and tried to take a jibe at Modi govt. She has since deleted the tweet.

4 days ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, Pollution Control Board in Tamil Nadu seals idol-making unit of Hindu artisans in Karur

0

With merely 4 days to go for Ganesh Chaturthi, the Hindu-hating DMK government in Tamil Nadu is cracking down on Ganesh idol makers. Most of these artisans are from Rajasthan and have embraced the local culture.

The premises of Hindu artisans in the Sungagate area in Karur were sealed by the Pollution Control Board (PCB) leaving the idol makers without a source of income.

Videos of the crackdown are going viral on social media sparking widespread anger amongst netizens. The crackdown on the Hindu idol makers comes just days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin called for the “eradication of Sanatan Dharma”.

Videos show state officials sealing the idol-making unit even as women artisans plead with them to not hurt their source of income. In one such video shared by BJP TN President, an artisan narrates his ordeal while speaking to the local media.

While being questioned about the incident by the local media, the artisan said, “We have been making Ganesh idols for 10 years. We use chalkpiece powder to make the idols. It dissolves in water. Officers came saw the samples. They said the idols are not in good quality. They saw before two days. The paint in the powder is water paint. They sealed our shed. There is not chemical mix. No external mix, no oil paint colours too. It is normal water paint.”

“About 160 to 170 idols are here. I have availed a loan for interest and invested Rs 10 lakh. I have borrowed from relatives and friends. Have to pay balance amount for food too,” he added.

Another woman from the same family cried helplessly as she appealed for consideration. “All these years they did not say anything. Only now they are saying this. If they had told us 20 days earlier we would have taken the idols elsewhere. Now we cannot move them there. We have to settle the amount to provision stores. We have availed loan for interest,” she said.

Nearly 400 Ganesh idols have been sealed by the PCB along with officials from the revenue department and the police following a surprise visit. The sleuths cited a complaint as grounds for the visit that plaster of Paris (PoP) was allegedly being used in violation of regulations.

Notably, the idol-makers have reportedly been creating the idols for more than a decade using potato flour and other natural materials which easily dissolve in water.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has accused the DMK of hurting the sentiments of practitioners of Sanatan Dharma and also hurting the economy.

“By disrupting the business of people dependent on the outcomes our festivities offer, DMK is not only hurting the feelings of the practitioners of Sanatana Dharma but also stopping the multiplier effect in the local economy. With Vinayagar Chaturthi a few days away, this clampdown by the corrupt DMK govt is highly condemnable,” Annamalai wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Hindu groups including Shiv Sena Party and Indhu Makkal Katchi have reportedly raised questions on the timing and the validity of the complaint. They said that the PCB sealed the unit without conducting proper chemical tests on the idols.

The BJP and the Hindu community at large have accused the DMK of undermining Hindus and Hindu festivals. Representatives from Hindu organisations have reportedly claimed that they had placed orders for 120 Ganesh idols and that the sudden sealing of the unit appears to be a conspiracy to hurt Hindu sentiments.

An idol factory owner and BJP worker named Murugan was raided a few days ago in Tenkasi on charges of using PoP to make idols. The artisan was compelled to break one of his idols to prove that it was biodegradable and not made of PoP.

Despite this, an FIR was filed against Murugan.

The DMK has crossed all limits in its campaign against Sanatan Dharma. The party seems to have strategically unleashed hatred on Hindus ever since Udhayanidhi Stalin called for an end to Sanatan Dharma.
