Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ displayed on shelves next to ‘How to Kill Your Family’, Pic viral

0

Prince Harry, who has been making a lot of news lately over his disagreements with the British Royal family and falling out with them, has come up with a memoir titled ‘Spare’. His revelations in the book, from his fight with his brother Prince William to his experience in Afghanistan, have been the top stories for the past week. However, a photograph of his book went viral for a totally different reason.

In a bookshop called Bert’s Books in Swindon in England, Prince Harry’s memoir was displayed next to a book called ‘How to Kill Your Family’ by an author named Bella Mackie. The bookshop definitely enjoyed their sarcastic dig at the Royal family as they shared the image online.

They further added, “Seriously, we had to buy them in a box of 12 to fulfil a couple of pre-orders, so if you do want a copy, you can order it here”

Reacting to the viral pic and their social media fame, Shop owner Alex Call, 35, said that the staff at the store thought it would be quite light-hearted and make a few people smile.

When people commented that someone is likely to sue them for it, and it is just a question who sues first, the royal family or Ms. Mackie, the shop’s account replied, “We’ve just put our bestselling books in the window… people are making all sorts of wild assumptions and connections,”

Prince Harry has famously fallen out with his family after his marriage to Meghan Markle. He left the royal family, relinquished his duties as a royal, and moved to the United States. For the past year or so, Harry has repeatedly talked about the reasons why he chose to do so in an interview with Oprah, in a Netflix documentary, and now in his book.

Prince Harry has repeatedly said that he wants his privacy, which isn’t always available to British Royals, during all his media interactions where he shares everything about his personal life.

SC agrees to give an urgent hearing to petition challenging Nitish govt’s Caste Census in Bihar

0

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to give an urgent hearing to the petition challenging the Bihar government’s notification for conducting the Caste Census in the state.

A lawyer mentioned the plea before the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing of the petition challenging the Bihar Government’s notification for conducting the Caste Census in the State. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that it will hear the petition on Friday.

Meanwhile, another petition was moved in the Supreme Court recently by a social worker Akhilesh Kumar through Advocates Barun Kumar Sinha and Abhishek, who, in his petition, said, “That the cause of action arose on/from the impugned Notification dated 06.06.2022 issued by Deputy Secretary, Government of Bihar, whereby decision of the Government to conduct caste census has been communicated to the media and public at large.”

The petitioner Akhilesh Kumar through Advocates Barun Kumar Sinha and Abhishek said that the decision of the State of Bihar is illegal, arbitrary, irrational, unconstitutional and without the authority of law.

According to the petitioner’s submission, there are a total of more than 200 castes in Bihar and all those castes are classified as General Category, OBC, EBC, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.

According to plea, in the state of Bihar, there are 113 castes which are known as OBC and EBC, eight castes are included in the category of Upper Caste, there are about 22 sub-castes which are included in Scheduled Caste category and there are 29 about Sub Castes which are included in the scheduled category.

“The impugned Notification accords differential treatment without intelligible differentia to the illegal decision of State of Bihar is illegal, arbitrary irrational and unconstitutional,” the petitioner Akhilesh Kumar said, who urged the top court to issue a direction for quashing the impugned Notification dated January 6, 2022, and to direct the authority concerned to refrain from conducting the caste census as it is against the basic structure of the Constitution of India.

Pakistan celebrates ‘food festival’ in Karachi amid extreme food shortage, chaos and mismanagement as people gatecrash the event

0

As Pakistan is hit by a severe food crisis, along with an economic one, a ‘food festival’ in Karachi turned from fest to chaos in no time. On Sunday, January 8, the concluding day of the ‘Karachi Eat’ festival witnessed chaos, mismanagement, and security failure.

On the last day of the food festival which started on January 6, several attendees shared their harrowing experiences of how they were groped, bullied, and harassed. The event was reportedly attended by around 2,50,000 lakh people.

Taking to social media, several attendees shared pictures and videos of the chaotic scenes at the food fest. As seen in videos of the incident, several people are seen scaling the walls, breaking the barricades, forcibly entering the venue, and harassing the attendees compelling the attendees to escape the venue by climbing the walls.

Pakistani media outlet The Pakistan Daily tweeted a video of the incident and wrote, “Reports of harassment and chaos in this year’s #KarachiEat which saw hundreds of stags gatecrashing the venue leading to the cancellation of music performances and other agenda items. Attendees report a complete security failure at the event.”

One Pakistani Twitter user wrote, “Stags broke the gates and forcefully entered #KarachiEat today. People are saying that they literally had to leave through spaces between walls and jump off them to get out of the chaos. Please ban such events in the city if security can’t be managed.”

In another tweet, she added, “Women in the family section were harassed. Tents were dismantled and to deal with it the management switched off all the lights which made the situation worse. Like literally wtf #KarachiEat2023.”

The chaos reached a point where a singer named Kaifi Khalil performing at the event had to end his performance abruptly, after women were being harassed and treated inappropriately. Taking to Twitter, Khalil informed about what happened at the event.

Food crisis in Pakistan

It is pertinent to note that a food festival was organized in Karachi at a time when several other cities of Pakistan are facing food shortages and flour is being rationed and guarded by armed guards.

Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan are among the worst sufferers as tens of thousands spend hours daily to get the subsidized bags of flour that are already short in supply in the market.

Incidents of clashes and stampedes have been reported in markets in many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan. The situation is so dire that flour-loaded mini trucks and vans are escorted by armed guards to avoid clashes. As these vehicles reach the markets, people gather around these vehicles.

Prices of wheat and flour have surged dramatically in recent months. Flour in Karachi is being sold from Rs 140 per kilogram to Rs 160 per kilogram. In Islamabad and Peshawar, a 10 kg bag of flour is being sold at Rs 1,500 per kilogram while a 20-kilogram bag of flour is being sold at Rs 2,800. Mill owners in Punjab province have increased the price of flour to Rs 160 per kilogram.

What led to a food crisis in Pakistan?

There are multiple factors contributing to the food shortage in Pakistan. One such is the scarcity of water. The lack of new dams, cemented canal systems, and other necessary infrastructures to store water lead to the non-availability of water for irrigation resulting in reduced crop production.

It is worth noting that Pakistan’s annual inflation rate increased from 23.8% in November to 24.5% in December 2022. Food prices increased by 35.5%, compared to 31.2% the previous month, with onions (415%), tea (63.8%), wheat (57.3%), eggs (54.4), gram whole (53.2%), and rice (46.6%).

Ukraine Russia war is another factor adding to Pakistan’s food crisis, as Pakistan relies on Russia for its additional wheat supplies which is a staple food for the Pakistani population. As Russia is faced with multiple sanctions from the west, Pakistan has to explore other options to meet its demands. A fragile economy, a disinterested government, and the recent flash floods in Pakistan have led to a crisis in Pakistan. Besides, Pakistan with foreign exchange reserves plunged to an 8-year low of $5.6 billion leaving it under a looming threat of bankruptcy.

Phata poster nikla Hero: Fans of Tamil stars Ajith Kumar and Vijay tear rival’s posters as movies clash on release date

On January 11, films of Tamil superstars Ajith Kumar and Vijay were released simultaneously in cinemas resulting in chaos among the fans. As per reports, Fans of Ajith Kumar tore the posters of Vijay starrer Varisu and fans of Vijay tore the posters of Ajith Kumar starrer Thunivu outside a movie theatre in Chennai. Fans gathered to watch the films outside cinema halls. Such a clash has happened after eight years.

Some fans also got injured as they indulged in not-so-safe activities out of the “excitement” of the film. As per news agency ANI, a fan identified as Bharat Kumar jumped from a slow-moving lorry and injured himself on Poonamalle Highways near Rohini Theatre in Chennai. He reportedly succumbed to injuries. Kumar was out to see Ajith Kumar’s film’s 1 AM show. A case was registered in the matter by the police.

The clash between the fans started when they gathered outside the theatre to watch the films of their favourite actors. Soon, they went on tearing the posters of the rival film. In the video shared by news agency ANI, a large number of fans can be seen climbing up the billboard to tear the posters of the rival actors and bring up posters of the actors they like.

In another video shared by ANI, the fans from both sides were seen raising slogans for their favourite actor and film. They burst firecrackers outside the theatre where the film was being shown.

Crowds outside crematoriums, funeral homes increase in China amid Covid surge

0

Satellite images of a number of Chinese cities have captured crowding at crematoriums and funeral homes, amid the Covid surge across the country after Beijing lifted severe pandemic restrictions, reported Washington Post.

An overwhelmed funeral home in Chengdu, China, stopped offering memorial services, budgeting just two minutes for each family to say goodbye to loved ones before cremation. A funeral parlour on the outskirts of Beijing quickly cleared space for a new parking lot. Scalpers in Shanghai sold places in line at funeral homes for USD 300 a pop to grieving relatives trying to get cremation slots, reported Washington Post.

The imagery captured by Maxar Technologies showed an uptick in activity at funeral homes across six different cities, from Beijing in the north to Nanjing in the east, to Chengdu and Kunming in the southwest.

Social media posts, too, revealed long wait times and overwhelmed staff at additional facilities.

“I have worked here for six years and it has never been this busy,” said a receptionist at the Jiangnan Funeral Home in Chongqing in southwest China, describing long lines of cars waiting to get into the facility during the days just before and after Christmas.

“The freezers were full and all eight incinerators were operating 24/7. The phone has basically not stopped ringing,” she said.

Such is the demand that at least four funeral homes contacted by the Washington Post have stopped allowing memorial services and are now offering only cremation services and storage, an indication that the majority of people waiting at these facilities were there to process recently deceased loved ones.

China recently moved away from its strict ‘Zero Covid’ approach, which had sparked mass unrest after more than two years of tight controls on citizens’ personal lives.

China’s strict policy shielded its population from the kind of mass deaths seen in Western nations — a contrast repeatedly driven home by the Communist Party to illustrate the supposed superiority of its restrictions.

The Chinese government continues to insist that fewer than 40 people have died in China of Covid since December 7, when ‘Zero Covid’ restrictions, aimed at entirely eliminating the virus were suddenly dropped and infection numbers exploded.

Exactly how Chinese authorities count Covid deaths has been a point of contention since the start of the pandemic. Since December, only people who died of respiratory failure have been included in the official count, regardless of whether they tested positive for the virus, the Washington Post reported.

Chinese health officials have tried to reassure the public by citing the low fatality rate, 0.1 per cent, of the omicron variant. Officially, just over 5,200 people have died of Covid in China since the beginning of the pandemic.

However, projections made by international experts put the real death toll closer to 5,000 people each day, with several models predicting more than 1 million Covid deaths in China in 2023, reported the Washington Post.

Ayodhya: Kashi Haridwar Peeth donates 47-gram gold and 167 kg silver to Ram Temple as donations continue to pour in

0

On Monday, January 9, Peethadhishwar Sanyam Teerth Maharaj of Kashi Haridwar Peeth visited the Shri Ram temple for darshan and also met Champat Rai, General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The Kashi Haridwar Peethadheeshwar offered 47 grams of gold to build a murti (idol) of Ram Lalla (Lord Ram in his childhood form) and 167 kg of silver for the construction of Singhdwar.

Reportedly, from the temple’s sanctum sanctorum to the Shikhar or peak, there will be gold decoration. Preparations are also underway to make a garland of 108 gold coins for the Ram Lalla idol that will be installed in the temple.

It is worth noting that devotees of Shri Ram from all over the country have so far donated over 500 kg of silver to the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. According to reports, a businessman from Maharashtra has asked for permission to gold-plate Ramlala’s throne (Singhasan).

The Patna Mahavir Mandir Trust of Bihar was said to have donated Rs 10 crore for the construction of the Ram temple after it began. Following that, a yearly payment of Rs 2 crore is made to the Ram Janmabhoomi pilgrimage area. The Mahavir Mandir Trust has already contributed Rs 6 crore. Ramkatha orator Morari Bapu raised 18 crores and 60 lakh rupees for the temple’s construction.

Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has on January 5 announced that Shri Ram Temple will be ready by 1st January 2024. While speaking at a rally in Sabroom in South Tripura, Amit Shah said “During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, I was the president of the BJP and Rahul Baba (Rahul Gandhi) was the president of the Congress. He used to ask every day – the date of construction of the temple there will never be told. So Rahul baba, open your ears and listen, on January 1, 2024, you will have the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya ready.”

Did you know? RRR’s Naatu Naatu song was shot outside Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s Palace

On January 10 (local time), the film RRR’s song Naatu Naatu won the Best Original Song trophy at Golden Globes 2023. Interestingly, the song was shot at the Mariinsky Palace, the Presidential Palace of Ukraine located in Kyiv. The shooting took place in August 2021 as a part of the final shooting schedule in Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially resides in the palace.

Notably, the song was shot only a few months before Russia initiated military action against Ukraine. The Telegu song Naatu Naatu was composed by MM Keeravani, and the lyrics were written by Chandrabose. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava gave voice to the song. The lyrical version of the song was released on November 10, 2021.

In an interview with Gulte.com, RRR director said, “We shot the Naatu Naatu song in Ukraine. It is a real location. Actually, it is the Ukrainian President’s palace. There is a parliament right beside the palace. Luckily, they gave us permission to shoot because the Ukrainian president was a television actor. The funny thing is that he acted as the President in a TV series before becoming the President.”

Earlier in 2022, Ram Charan, who played the lead in the film RRR along with Jr NTR, Olivia Morris and Alia Bhatt, was in the news after a Ukrainian soldier mentioned him in a video. In the video, the soldier said he was a personal security member for Ram Charan in Kyiv. He added that Ram Charan helped him and sent money for his wife.

The Russia-Ukraine war

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced full-scale military action against Ukraine. Since then, the two countries have been fighting head-on. Following Russia’s invasion of the neighbouring country, several sanctions were imposed by the United States, Europe and other Western countries. The war has adversely affected the economy worldwide, especially in the countries that relied on Russian gas and fuel.

Women harassed, children forced to learn Urdu and Namaz: Why isn’t the media interested in covering the plight of Hindus in Haldwani?

The recent issue of the removal of illegal encroachment from Indian Railways land in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, prompted the leftist media to carefully craft a ‘Muslims under attack’ narrative. Since the majority of the illegal encroachers belonged to the Muslim community, appeals are made in name of ‘humanity’ and requests for facilities were made so that eventually the illegal structures can be regularised and government land could be usurped illegally.

The Supreme Court had on January 4, 2023, put a stay on the matter of the removal of encroachment from Indian Railways land in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, saying that a workable arrangement has to be devised.

The next hearing in this case in the Supreme Court is scheduled for February 7, 2023, before which the leftist media are continuing to purposefully build a narrative implying that “Muslims are being attacked by Hindu nationalist parties.”

An OpIndia team has been conducting a ground investigation into the controversy over the eviction of illegal encroachers on railway land in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following the tremendous buzz on social media and subsequent national media attention. The crew arrived in Haldwani on January 3, 2023, and has since been working to uncover the truth behind the protest and debunk the ‘Muslims in India under attack’ narrative that is being propagated.

Today, the OpIndia crew spoke with a few Hindus who chose to remain in Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura area and inquired about their situation. The truth which has emerged is quite different from what the liberal media has been trying to push for the past few days. Here are some highlights from our conversations with the distraught Hindus residing there.

Unlike other media organisations, we chose to enter the villages’ narrow alleyways. We headed to the Indira Nagar Basti, where a handful of Hindu families still dwell. At first, these people were not ready to speak to us. We assumed they were upset about the High Court’s order to remove the encroachment, but the truth was quite different. The Hindus there were actually worried for their and their family’s safety.

We anticipated that this anxiety will be limited to a few people, but as we spoke with elders, teenagers, children, women, and men one by one, a terrifying image emerged in front of us. The terror was palpable in almost every Hindu living there.

‘Drunkards and drug addicts kick our doors’: elderly man narrates the plight of Hindus in Haldwani

Our team first spoke to a 72-year-old elderly man who reluctantly shared the plight of the handful of Hindus remaining in the Banbhoolpura area in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani city. He alleged that people of the Muslim community, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, come to their houses and start kicking their doors at random odd hours. When the Hindus oppose, they hush the matter by pinning the blame on others.

The elderly man added that the situation for Hindus in the Banbhoolpura area has worsened over the course of the last ten years since the Muslim population here rose significantly. Other residents sitting close to the elderly man told us how their water pumps were deliberately uprooted and stolen a few days ago, and the criminals have yet to be apprehended.

Another Hindu, speaking about the rapid demographic shift in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani area, stated that they were clueless about how the Muslim population expanded so quickly and from where and why these people were coming.

Joginder Singh Jogi, the district convenor of the ‘Bajrang Dal,’ also informed about the sale of drugs such as hash and cannabis in the Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani, Uttrakhand.

‘Govt should take us out of here’: Hindus in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani

A Hindu resident of Banbhoolpura lamented how he and his family want the Government of India to relocate them since the conditions are no longer tenable for Hindus to live there. Another Hindu residing there told us how Hindu-Muslim clashes are common there and how it has occurred several times in the past. He said that in such instances, a large mob gathers in the vicinity to protest, which he said becomes a threat to the handful of Hindus residing there.

Another person lamented that if he had the resources or another place to live, he would have left the area a long time ago.

Our house was swarmed due to a social media post

A Hindu mother also described the distress the Hindus in that area are under. She recalled how once, a mob had surrounded her house in response to a social media post shared by her son. According to the woman, if the cops had not been present at the time, something terrible would have occurred to her family.

Once a Hindu-dominated area, now virtually Hindu-free

Speaking about how the demography of the area has altered in the last few years, an elderly man told us that in the 1960s, Indira Nagar in Banbhoolpura was a Hindu-dominated area. He recalled how during those days, a massive fire had broken in the area, compelling many Hindu families to relocate. After that, the process continued. Many Hindu families progressively migrated from Indira Nagar to another location, and gradually Banphoolpura turned into a Muslim-dominated locality.

According to our sources, the migration of Hindus from that area is still ongoing.

Rampant incidents of ‘love jihad’ and conversion reported in Banbhoolpura in Haldwani, Uttarakhand

According to a Hindu resident of Indira Nagar, incidents of love jihad remain common in the Banbhoolpura locality. As an example, we were told how not so long ago, a Hindu girl was abducted and taken to Hyderabad one night. When she came back later, she was pregnant. We were told how the girl’s relatives had given up hope of her return.

Meanwhile, another individual also lamented how his Hindu brother was forcefully converted to Islam. He held his brother’s accomplices accountable for this and rued how he had severed all contact with his converted brother. Joginder Singh Jogi, district convenor of the Bajrang Dal, also confirmed how the menace of ‘love jihad’ had been rampant in Banbhoolpura in Uttrakhand’s Haldwani district.

The Hindus of Indira Nagar told us that they couldn’t even play Holi properly under past governments. They claimed there was a big police presence prior to Holika Dahan every year. They were, however, pleased that, under the current BJP rule, they are heard by the police and that prompt action is taken if any adverse incident occurs in the area.

House constructed by demolishing a Shiva temple

An elderly man in his sixties told us that a man named Satyanarayan Tiwari, who once lived in the Banbhoolpura area, had constructed a small Shiva Mandir near his house. After a few days, when Satyanarayan Tiwari went away, some Muslims in the area not only forcefully acquired his house but also the Shiv Mandir he had constructed near it. The Muslims demolished the Mandir and built the house, where they are now living, the man recalled.

Displeased because we did not join the protest

We had earlier reported how thousands of Muslim residents in Haldwani staged a protest on December 28 against the clearance of illegal encroachments on railway land in accordance with a High Court ruling. Speaking about these protests, the Hindus residing in Banbhoolpura said that their Muslim neighbours had urged them to join the protest but they refused. They added that their refusal had irked the Muslim leaders in the neighbourhood who reprimanded them for not participating in the protests.

A Hindu woman described how she was approached by a group of Muslim protestors and instructed to join them in reading ‘dua’. The lady stated that she refused to give in to their requests and instead instructed them to pray to Bhagwan. This enraged the protestors, who then went away, she said.

Hindu children compelled to learn Urdu and recite Namaz in school

We were told by two minor Hindu children from Banbhoolpura that they were taught Urdu in school. When we requested him to recite the school prayer, he recited some Islamic prayers to us. When asked, the children said that they studied in SN Public School.

Meanwhile, the children’s parents told us that when they discovered that their children were being taught Urdu and made to recite Namaz in school, they took them out of this school and got them admitted to some other school.

Some Hindu women residing in the locality revealed how they are subjected to harassment whenever they walk down the street. “Youths from the Muslim community make derogatory and indecent remarks at us, and when we object, they throw meat at our homes.” the women rued.

The Bajrang Dal district convenor also told OpIndia that the women of Banbhoolpura’s remnant Hindus face continual threats.

Please note that we have deliberately withheld the name of the Hindu resident of Banbhoolpura who spoke to us. During the course of the conversation, they urged us to not disclose their names fearing retaliation.

Hyderabad: US Govt to fund conservation of tombs of Paigah family, loyalists to Nizams, believed to be descendants of second Caliph of Islam

On January 10, the United States government announced financial support worth $250,000 for conserving and restoring six of the Paigah tombs located at Santoshnagar in Hyderabad. These tombs were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The US Chargé d’Affaires and the US Consul General Jennifer Larson visited the Paigah tombs complex to announce the funding.

Also known as Maqhbara Shams al-Umara, these tombs belong to the family of Paigah that served the Nizam of Hyderabad. Reportedly, the Paigah family was one of the most influential and powerful of the time. The tombs of several generations of the Paigah family are located in the complex. These tombs are made of lime and mortar and marble and are considered one of the city’s major tourist spots.

As per the Telangana government’s website, the Paigah family claimed to be descendants of the second caliph of Islam, Hazrath Omar Bin Al-Khattab. Paigahs were known to be wealthier than the average Maharaja of the country at that time and had privileges, including maintaining their court, palaces and private armies. Paigah is a Persian language word that means ‘footstool’ or the Right-hand man. The website reads, “The tombs are the finest examples of the enthralling Indo-Islamic architecture, which is a blend of both features of Asaf Jahi and Rajputana style.”

In her statement, Ambassador Jones said this was the fifth such project supported by the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). The US Consulate will fund it in Hyderabad. Furthermore, Aga Khan Trust for Culture is going to implement the project. She said, “This may be my first visit to Hyderabad, but it is not the first time the US government has supported the conservation and restoration of significant historical sites here in the city. We are proud to be part of the Government of Telangana’s efforts to conserve these magnificent monuments, and I’m grateful to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture for all of its efforts here and throughout India.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Ratish Nanda accompanied Ambassador Jones and Consul General Larson while touring the complex. Earlier, Consul General Larson inaugurated another AFCP project at the Qutb Shahi Tombs in Hyderabad. She said, “By working with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the State of Telangana, we can ensure the integrity of these unique cultural sites for generations to come.”

Notably, in 2001, the US Department of State created AFCP. Since its creation, it has funded 1,100 projects in 133 countries. In two decades, $2 million have been invested in India in projects related to the documentation, conservation and restoration of 23 such sites.
