Gujarat girl Kshama Bindu marries herself: Watch visuals of India’s first ‘sologamy wedding’

Kshama Bindu of Gujarat was recently in the news when she announced her plan to have India’s first ‘sologamy marriage’. The 24-year-old Kshama Bindu has ‘married herself’ with all the rituals including Haldi and Mehendi. She has also shared the visuals of the same from her Instagram handle.

Kshama Bindu had declared that she will marry herself on 11th June in a temple. However, in response to criticism on social media, she decided to have the ceremony sooner than planned. Bindu has married herself, complete with Mehendi and Haldi rites. This is the first sologamy marriage in India. After finishing the wedding rites, she thanked everyone in a video message on Facebook. Bindu expressed her appreciation for the encouragement and support she has received.

Kashma Bindu said, “I would like to thank everyone who has messaged me, congratulated me, and given me the power to fight for what I believed in.”

Bindu’s decision to ‘marry herself’ sparked outrage, with some leaders opposing the act. While some argued that self-marriage is against Hinduism, others term it a foolish decision.

Milind Deora, Congress leader, condemned the sologamy marriage as another example of ‘wokeness’ bordering on insanity. While many people opposed her, Bindu had little support from others. “We live in a country where women born under the influence of Mars must marry banana plants, peepal trees, dogs, and clay pots so their negative influence is not transferred to their future husbands,” said Mario de Penha, a PhD candidate at Rutgers University. He further said, “If ‘wokeness’ is insanity, what do you describe these customary behaviours as?”

Bindu claims she got the idea for sologamy from the Canadian Netflix series ‘Anne with an E,’ and she sees it as a self-dedication. Earlier when she announced her decision, Kshama Bindu had said, “I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So I decided to marry myself. Maybe I am the first to set an example of self-love in our country. Self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for yourself. It’s also an act of self-acceptance. People marry someone they love. I love myself and hence this wedding.”

Islamic scholars and communist panellists on TV debate refuse to condemn beheading calls by Muslim fundamentalists over alleged ‘blasphemy’

On June 8, during a debate on Times Now, Islamic ‘scholars’ and communist panellists refused to condemn calls for beheading by a Muslim fundamentalist. In Times Now show ‘India Upfront’ hosted by anchor and editor-in-chief of the channel Rahul Shivashankar, the discussion was on the threats issued by terrorist organization Al-Qaeda against former BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s remarks.

Activist Sushil Pandit, Chairman of Aarin Capital Mohandas Pai, Author Dr Anand Ranganathan, former State Vice President Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha and political analyst Syed Masoodul Hasan, AIMIM social media administrator and political analyst Zubair Memon and Communist leader and politician Vivek Srivastava were among the panellists.

During the debate, Dr Ranganathan requested Rahul to question the panellists if they condemned the calls for beheading over alleged blasphemy. He said, “There is no meaning of shouting at each other. Let’s make it clear right now with a single question. We have six panellists. Just ask the simple question to all six of us. ‘Do you condemn the slogan Gustakh-e-Rasool Ki Ek Hi Saza, Sar Tan Se Juda’? Yes or No?” Mohandas Pai and Sushil Pandit did not take a second to condemn the slogan. However, Hasan, Memon and Srivastava had different thoughts.

While Hassan and Memon bluntly said, “Not at all”, Vivek said, “Depends on who spoke it and in what context.” Srivastava did not openly condemn the slogan.

Amused by the reaction, Rahul asked Vivek, “Will you support blasphemy law if someone insults any one religion should be beheaded? When Kalbhurgi, Dabolkar, Lankesh, and Pansare allegedly insulted Hindu sentiments. Should they also be beheaded?” Vivek justified the statements given by the so-called rationalists and liberal personalities, saying that there was a difference.

He said, “There is a difference. Dabolkar was not a mischievous man. Gauri Lankesh was not a disturbing element. They believed in the constitution of the nation. I am a communist. I do not believe in Hinduism or Islam. But however, if mischievous remarks are made without any quest for rationality. You can go and sit with a Maulana and discuss. But that was not your intention. Your intention was to insult Islam and create a communal problem. Show Muslims in a bad light. Show Quran in a bad light. And disturb the communal harmony of the nation.”

As Vivek had mentioned the constitution in his remarks, Rahul reminded it does not promise absolute freedom of speech. He added the constitution does not allow anyone, including rationalists or atheists, to insult anyone’s feelings.

Countering Vivek, Dr Ranganathan said, “I want to ask him, ‘Do you condemn the internment of one and a half million Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China. That China is forcibly sterilizing them? That China is feeding them pork. Making them drink alcohol. Do you condemn?”

Vivek refused to condemn China and said, “I will not condemn because I don’t think that is happening. It is a developed country.”

Mohandas Pai argued that in a liberal society, there is no space for anti-blasphemy laws. He said, “Anti-blasphemy law has no place in a liberal democracy. Let us be very clear about it. It is a medieval law brought in at a point time when societies were run as theocracies, and it has no place in a liberal democracy. We should not have it as a law.”

He added, “However, in India, we have to defend the religious sensibilities of any religion. We need to be careful. Some people sometimes say things which offend people. They have the right to protest against such offences irrespective of who they are. But nobody has the right to provoke violence. Nobody has the right to threaten. Nobody has the right to say they are going to cut your throat. If they do, they must need the force of law.” He further added those that  who are going on the streets and threatening people should be booked and thrown in jail as they do not have a place in our society.”

When asked about his views on people threatening others over alleged blasphemy, Sushil Pandit said, “Far from threatening others, we have been patiently waiting for three decades for justice to be delivered. It is not about laws, it is not about democracy, [and] it is not about freedom of speech. I believe, yes, laws are only as good as they are abided by and so long as there is a system to stand by and give cost and consequences to those who do not abide by those laws.” He questioned why the system was not saving those who were being threatened.

The controversy around Nupur Sharma

During a debate on Times Now on the Gyanvapi controversy, former spokesperson of BJP Nupur Sharma remarked on Prophet Muhammad in retaliation against Muslim panellist who was continuously abusing Bhagwan Shiv. Her remarks were taken out of context by the likes of Alt News’ Mohammed Zubair, and multiple campaigns were initiated against her.

The whole controversy swirled into international propaganda against India after an online campaign ran for 2-3 days on Twitter and other social media platforms. In the end, BJP suspended Nupur Sharma pending an inquiry, but the threats and statements against Sharma and India did not stop. In the latest updates, the terror organization Al-Qaeda has issued a threat to India over Sharma’s remarks.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi named in the FIR filed by Delhi police for spreading hate on social media, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati’s name also appears

The name of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) national president Asaduddin Owaisi has also appeared in the FIR filed by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi police on Wednesday. The FIR was filed over allegations of promoting false information with an intention to create unrest in cyberspace. Delhi police have also named Dasna temple priest Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati in the FIR.

Yesterday OpIndia reported that the ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, former BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal, ‘journalist’ Saba Naqvi and others have been named in the FIR.

Other than the mentioned above, some names in the FIR include one Shadab Chauhan, Maulana Mufti Nadeem, Abdur Rehman, Gulzar Ansari, Anil Kumar Meena and Pooja Shakun. Rajasthan based Maulana Mufti Nadeem had threatened to gouge eyes of Nupur Sharma and chop off her hands in presence of state police.

The Delhi police filed two FIRs under IPC sections 153, 295 and 505 after social media analysis. One case has been registered against Nupur Sharma and another one has been registered against multiple social media entities based on the analysis. Notices will be sent to the social media intermediaries for the details, said the Delhi police.

Speaking about the FIRs filed in the case, an Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) officer said that their actions had ramifications on the physical space, thereby compromising with the ‘social fabric of the country’.

It may be noted that the AIMIM chief who had earlier dog-whistled against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in front of thousands of people, Monday, again, went on an unhinged rant against the central government and the former BJP spokesperson.

Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that the BJP had purposely sent its spokespersons to make inflammatory remarks and took action only after facing flak for its leaders’ remarks on the global stage.

He also took aim at the Ministry of External Affairs, saying, “Has the foreign ministry become a part of the BJP? What will you do if there are hate crimes and violence against Indian nationals in Gulf countries?”

Despite Nupur Sharma’s suspension and subsequent apology, Owaisi continued to spew venom against the BJP’s ex-spokesperson and demanded her arrest. “India has lost face. The country’s foreign policy was destroyed. The fringe has become mainstream. I demand Nupur Sharma’s arrest, not just suspension,” Owaisi said.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi dog-whistles in front of thousands of people against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma

Notably, on May 30, OpIndia reported how the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi while addressing a crowd, dog-whistled his followers against BJP leader Nupur Sharma over her remarks about Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate. Owaisi said that he appeals to Prime Minister Modi to take action against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Addressing the crowd, Owaisi said, “If you talk about Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas, you can stay against us, but this is not justified to make offensive remarks against the one whom we revere.” “You’re also the Prime Minister of Muslims of India, you should take strict action against your spokesperson who has remarked on our beloved prophet,” Owaisi further added.

“Tell her that this is wrong. Book her in a case I am saying. You call yourself a secular party. Why don’t you act now?” Owaisi remarked angrily.

The slippery slope of blasphemy laws

“Those who are determined to be ‘offended’ will discover a provocation somewhere. We cannot possibly adjust enough to please the fanatic, and it is degrading to make the attempt.” – Christopher Hitchens

Amid the whole imbroglio about the remarks of erstwhile BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, a global campaign to attack her on the grounds of an invented victimhood on the grounds of blasphemy has been launched. There are reports that the social media was used to initiate and whip up frenzy from Turkey and Middle East. However, for any social media campaign to create impact, there is a need of foot-soldiers on the ground fanatic enough the carry the hate forward. The tool kit became a twitter storm and a secular, democratic Hindu majority government which was till yesterday silently watching the shameless mocking of Hindu religious symbols, was reproached by the Islamic and Islamist states like Qatar, UAE, Maldives and even Afghanistan for what has been construed to be biggest insult to Islam.

When nations are acting like a mob, what could one say about the half-illiterate mobs provoked by speeches in a Mosque in Kanpur last Friday. These are the same nations which have been happily watching beheading of innocent in the name of blasphemy. The state of Qatar which set the cat among the pigeons, the same cat which goes on the proverbial Hajj after eating hundred mice, carrying the placard of victimhood and pacifism, has its own terrible human rights records. The UN, feeling left out jumped into the farcical debate which was given some sort of legitimacy by none other than Bhartiya Janata Party leadership which suspended Nupur Sharma who had merely quoted the same facts from Islamic scriptures.

Mohammad Zubair, who runs a controversial pro-Islamist portal with Prateek Sinha, largely on donations riding on controversies, curiously tax-exempted by the government of Hindu-majority India was found participating in the beginning, middle and end of this global campaign initiated by IOSPI which was also involved in promoting the banning of French goods after the beheading of Samuel Paty, a school teacher by Islamists. The sustained media campaign in India which initially called the quoting of a section of Islamic scriptures verbatim, uncivil, then rude, then distasteful and eventually joined the bandwagon calling it derogatory to Islam.

The AIMIM politician Owaisi from Hyderabad, whose brother who was caught on camera mocking Hindu Gods in a well-attended public forum has been giving bytes to Indian TV channels on the unbearable pain of being a persecuted minority in India while threatening all and sundry, advising them to surrender before his own faith. Now that most of India knows that AIMIM stands for the Unity of Muslims only, his initial pretence of being a warrior for secularism is gone and he is now blatantly for the Muslims and of the Muslims. The media still remains stuck to his ‘secular’ past.

What was most amusing was that even when we have seen the havoc on civil liberties a fanatic blasphemy law imposed in our neighbouring nations, so-called liberal intellectuals were cheering to the mob of Mullahs baying for the blood of Nupur Sharma, who like Hypatia, the woman philosopher and mathematician from Ancient Egypt (415AD), lynched by Christian fanatics, stood alone, betrayed and isolated. As I write this, the Hindu-majority secular state is filing FIR against Nupur.

I so wish those in power in the government had read Christopher Hitchens. In any case, Tavleen Singh who along with her son, born out of wedlock with a Pakistani politician, was found gloating on the fact that fanatics were attacking Nupur forgot two things. While true Islam in the Land of Pure, Pakistan took the life of her erstwhile associate, Salman Taseer who was murdered by his own bodyguard, merely because he called for the pardon of a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, who was sentenced to death for Blasphemy. An Islamic state also would not have space for her son under Islamic law given his sexual choices. Salman Taseer’s murderer, Mumtaz Qadri was showered with flower petals, by fanatic people of Pakistan. Mumtaz Qadri was hanged by Pakistani courts. I do not know if this case was of India, whether Ms Tavleen Singh would have cheered for the murderer and trying to create public opinion to justify the murderer as she happily shares with her sons the harassment Nupur has been put through on similar, drummed up blasphemy charges.

But then this is a standard process of the fanatics, that they use the same liberal laws whose protection they seek in order to attack liberalism. In his book ‘The Classical Islam’ Gustav E Grunebaum wrote referring to early days of Islam – “Just as today the Communists in a liberal society are protected by the guarantees they seek to destroy, so the Muslims who set up their community in opposition to the tribal society were protected by tribal ethics.” The moderate Muslims, instead of condemning the frenzy, kind of legitimised the riotous outrage that spread across India and even joined the liberals in a shameless ecstasy when illiberal, orthodox, communal regimes condemn the Nation which treats them with kid-gloves. As contended here, they hide behind the liberal Hindu principles which inherently are tolerant and secular, and propagate intolerant, bigoted and violent views.

Much has been made about OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) as Rahul Gandhi and his gang of dwarfs came out with -Never has been India humiliated like this before in the history- dope. The fact is that OIC, a religious convention of Muslim countries has never been kind to India, nestled between three Islamic nations of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. I have not mentioned Maldives which lives on the benevolence of Hindu-majority India.

As ironic as it may sound, during global Covid Pandemic when UN stood helplessly as rich nations cornered the vaccines, India came to the rescue of these warriors of Islam out of inherent Hindu kindness embedded in the faith. Instead of singling out Qatar which has particularly horrendous human rights records with near-zero rights for the non-Muslims, gays and women and almost slavish labor laws under Kafala system. What is most interesting that while Indian analysts and intellectuals are crying over how India’s relation with Qatar stand threatened because of one statement on TV by one political spokesperson, the second largest import into Qatar comes from China, which has adopted the persecution of Muslims as a state policy in Uighur provinces, where state heavily prohibits Islamic rituals and practices.

Coming back to OIC, as much is being made about how historically OIC has been supportive of India and now because of Narendra Modi government, that cooperative spirit is going down, let us look at the claims. OIC was founded in 1969 with 57 member states. In spite of member states working with Indian government for their mutual benefit, they have been making public noises against Indian interests since the foundation. While the planing for establishment of such an organisation for in works for some time, it was the burning down of Al-Aqsa mosque, which prompted the first convention in Morocco. This was used as a pretext of creating an Anti-Israel axis as Israel was charged with the burning down of the Mosque. Later it turned out that this was done by an Australian Christian.

The key issue discussed there turned out to be about indian membership, India being a nation with world’s second largest Muslim population. India was invited in the founding session and the first part of it was attended by Indian Ambassador to Morocco, Gurbachan Singh. Before Indira Gandhi could send Fakruddin Ahmad as Indian representative, Pakistan played its hand. In the backdrop of Ahmedabad riots around the same time, India’s presence was objected to by Pakistan and OIC had to acquiesce. In the resolution, India’s presence was mentioned as – A delegation of India Muslim- not as Union of India as the attendee. In 2002, Qatar and later Bangladesh proposed inclusion of India in the OIC as observer but Pakistan did not allow it. However, it was only in 2019, under the Narendra Modi Government, when after an invited delegation under Indira in 1969 had to bear the insult of being prevented from attending the convention, even after reaching Morocco; India was invited as ‘Guest of Honour’, after a gap of fifty years.

During the period of fifty years, India largely ignored OIC, as people who are shocked and surprised at the OIC remarks, under the tutelage of Congress scion, might not be aware, OIC has largely been anti-India in all the matters of international significance. It has routinely been drafting resolutions condemning India on Kashmir at the behest of Pakistan, even when India was ruled by people with better English than the BJP leaders.

In 1994, a Contact Group was established to coordinate among the member Muslim states to organise support for Plebiscite in Kashmir. The Islamic solidarity fund contributed to ‘Muslims’ of Kashmir in 1995. In 1993, Benazir Bhutto accused India of Human Rights Violations, asking UN to send to Kashmir a fact-finding mission. In 1994, OIC sent a fact-finding mission to Kashmir which was not allowed in by India. In 1994, Congress Government allowed separatist leaders attend the Convention in Pakistan, where a resolution was passed to demand Plebiscite in Kashmir. In 1995 session of OIC, a resolution declared Kashmir to be under colonial rule, and demanded reconstruction of Babri Structure. In 1998, Doha session again Kashmir was declared to be under foreign occupation.

Worst was the Kargil war, when the entire world accepted Pakistan as aggressor, OIC passed resolution asking settlement of Kashmir and expressed solidarity to protect territorial integrity of Pakistan. Public memory is short and this allows vile politicians like Rahul Gandhi to claim that this over-enthusiasm of OIC in this fake controversy is in some way justified. Congress-supporters are even reporting gleefully that boisterous challenge put forth by Iraq which was bombed to stone age under fake WMD charges by Christian-majority nations while the Islamic states silently watched.

Speaking of human losses, mainly of Muslims to which these Islamic organisations have been largely oblivious, in Pakistan around 71,000 have died, in Iraq around 2,00,000 civilian Muslims have died, in Syria, US operations killed around 2,27,000 civilian Muslims and the conflict between two Muslim nations, Yemen and Saudi, around 3,77,000 Muslims have lost their lives. These are all the battles among the Muslim nations and therefore it would have been much easier for GCC or OIC to throw its weight to bring in peace and prosperity for the Muslims.

Some may claim that it is not human cost which sways the emotions here, it is about the honour of the faith. But again when we find that the house of Hamza, Prophet’s uncle was flattened to make way for a hotel, the place claimed earlier to be Prophet’s birthplace is marked by Saudi government contradicting the faith, prohibiting any prayers there. The house of the first Caliph and Prophet’s friend is now Hotel Hilton. The organisation which sheds tears at the wrongly built and disputed structures in India calling them martyred buildings of Muslim faith, has been keeping quiet on these developments at the place of birth of Islam where the entire cultural heritage has been wiped off the make way for modern requirements, as The Times reports. But then it is no different from Indian politicians crying rivers for Babri, a disputed structure with no religious significance for the Indian Muslims, but remain silent on Charaar-e-Sharif in Kashmir, a mosque of huge significance burnt down by Islamist terrorists.

As we analyse facts clearly, we understand that there is no religious hurt, there is no significance of the Islamic nation’s utterances, while they sign food security bills with India. India has been importing oil from Middle-East but it has been a relationship which is mutual as India has been supporting them with woodgrains from India. There is a huge commitment going in from India towards non-fossil fuel as Ethanol- based fuel and electric vehicles are being promoted. For now, Russian oil at reduced prices is making its way into India.

These global forces are play, prompting players to play their parts. The problem is that under the influence of clerics and the communists, Indian muslims are pushed into the fanaticism. People are pointing out that the same Qatar which has taken a position for Islamic faith, gave asylum to MF Hussain who trampled over Hindu faith. I would think that in this case it is not Qatar’s fault. The onus was on India to raise the matter strongly with Qatar as a Hindu majority nation when it happened. But at the time, the powers in India were busy shaming Hindus for throwing a talented artist into exile due to their intolerance and bigotry. The fact is that MF Hussain himself confirmed that he was never in exile in an interview he gave.

Unlike a Muslim nation, where it would be absolutely impossible for a non-Muslim to get any state honours, Hussain was much loved and awarded in Hindu-majority india. He moved to Qatar as the cases of tax evasion (in which he was represented by Congress Lawyer, Kapil Sibal’s son) piled up. Even Congress leader’s son confirmed that Hussain has not run away, he will come back and face the law. Still that did not stop the Congress from shaming Hindus of India on national and international platform for hounding away an artist.

The state here is also at fault for ceding to the nonsensical offensive of the fanatics. One would have hoped a Macron from Modi. But that was not to happen as he gave in to the threat of Islamic extremism. A Polish politician repeated what Nupur said, Modi could have at least repeated what Macron said, or at least what Ambedkar said, whose name is brazenly misused by Muslim fanatics like Owaisi.

Ambedkar in his book- Pakistan, or the Partition of India, writes on Muslim aggression- “..the thing that is noticeable among the Muslims is the spirit of exploiting the weaknesses of the Hindus. If the Hindus object to anything, the Muslim policy seems to be to insist on it and give it up only when the Hindus show themselves ready to offer a price for it by giving the Muslims some concessions.” Pondering over the key characteristics of Muslims, of course exceptions would be there, but on the whole, he adds, “the third thing that is noticeable is the adoption by the Muslims of the gangster’s method in politics.”

We find this gangsterism in the politics of Owaisi and his ilk, where every statement is a threat, even when veiled in victimhood. A secular, democratic government needs to have exceptional spine to deal with such politics. That is where Modi government, or Nadda’s Bhartiya Janata Party has made mistake in this episode. There needs to be a zero tolerance on the politics based on threat. As an MP from Telangana, he should be questioned and grilled on the alleged involvement of son of his party MLA in minor’s rape in his state. He is questioned by media on developments in UP, where his party contested elections and lost miserably. That he does not represent people of UP, not even the minorities is settled but the media cannot resist the temptation of inventing another Jinnah.

The government should have stood up to this gangster politics and State Machinery should have acted firm and quick on anyone threatening free speech. If the state needs to act as a religious fanatic, it should act like a fanatic for all the faiths, not for the most belligerent ones.

We are at the cusp of history, attempting to come out of the darkness of an unfair partition. The Government and the people should stand with one another, for the future we stare at is bigger than both of us. While Hindu leaders opposed blasphemy laws, right from the time of Lala Lajpat Rai, even when Swami Shraddhanand was killed in broad daylight for merely supporting a book considered to be blasphemous. The murderer was condoned by Gandhi and legally represented by Jinnah. When hanged, his funeral was attended by Mohammad Iqbal whose song we foolishly adopted as National song, post-partition.

But if a stringent blasphemy law is needed, so be it, as long as it comes in after judicial reforms. Law that acts arbitrarily is no law. A democracy that allows a seditionist go scot-free is no democracy and a judiciary which keeps a young girl in prison for posting a social media post critical of a politician is no judiciary. We have to face challenges and rise up to them. If we start running now, the world will not be enough; if we cede one inch, an abyss of infinite darkness awaits us. There won’t be an Organization of Hindu Nations to stand for the Hindu faith because there are none. We have to stand on our own, alone, unapologetic and unafraid.

Pakistan: Islamists desecrate another Hindu temple, Hanuman idol destroyed and priest attacked in Karachi

In another incident of vandalism against the places of worship of the Hindus in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, an idol of Lord Hanuman, placed in Shri Mari Mata Mandir in the Korangi area in Karachi was desecrated and the priest of the temple was also attacked. The incident occurred on June 8, Wednesday, in the temple located in the ‘J’ area, a short distance from Korangi Police Station. According to reports, 6-8 unknown people were behind the incident.

Video of the attack circulating on social media shows how the idol of the Hindu deity Hanuman was severely damaged and other religious things kept in the mandir were also destroyed.

According to journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, the temple was under construction hence the priest had brought the idols home located next to the temple. The miscreants vandalised the temple, destroyed the idols kept in his house and also attacked the priest before fleeing. The police have not yet identified the people involved in the crime nor have made any arrests so far.

As per Twitter user @RaviDawani5 an FIR has been filed against unknown miscreants.

.

Sanjeev, a local Hindu resident told the media that six to eight people on motorcycles came into the area and attacked the temple.

“Five to six unknown suspects entered the temple and escaped after vandalising it,” Korangi SHO Farooq Sanjrani confirmed. He added that the case was being registered against the unknown suspects.

According to the Express Tribune, the incident sparked panic and fear among Karachi’s Hindu minority, especially those in the Korangi area. Police forces have been deployed in Korangi to prevent escalation.

Minority Hindus and their places of worship have always been on the radar of Islamists in Pakistan. Besides innumerable incidents of forced conversion, rape, child marriage, and suppression, several places of worship of Hindus have also come under attack in Islamic Pakistan.

In February 2022, OpIndia reported about a Hindu temple in Rohri, Sindh Province that was looted and vandalized by religious extremists. They also looted the cash and gold at the Shiran Wali Mata Hindu temple and destroyed 5 idols of Hindu deities. CCTV footage of the desecration and robbery had then gone viral on social media.

Earlier on January 27, Pakistani authorities had razed to ground the under construction Hinglaj Mata Mandir in the Tharparker district of Sindh province. Also, in the year 2020, during Navratri, the unidentified miscreants had damaged the head of the idol of Hinglaj Mata, besides smashing the face of Her Vaahan.

Last year, OpIndia wrote about the 7 Hindu temples that were vandalized and destroyed by Islamists since 2020.

Bhima Koregaon probe panel summons 6 political party chiefs in Maharashtra including CM Uddhav Thackeray, affidavits to be filed before June 30

On Wednesday, the Koregaon Bhima Enquiry Commission issued summons to the chiefs of six political parties in the state of Maharashtra. The commission which is investigating the 1st January 2018 violence near a memorial in Maharashtra’s Pune district has called on the party chiefs to take their suggestions on steps to prevent and tackle the law and order situation in the area in a better manner.

According to the reports, the summons has been issued to CM Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena, BJP’s Chandrakant Patil, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s Prakash Ambedkar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Raj Thackeray, Republic Party of India’s Ramdas Athawale, and Pradesh Congress Committee chief Nana Patole. The commission has asked the party chiefs to file an affidavit before June 30. The Party chiefs have also been asked to appear for submitting their oral statements before the commission.

This is after the advocate of the commission Ashish Satpute submitted an application to the commission’s chairman Jaynarayan Patel. Satpute in the application stated that it was necessary to consider the suggestions of the party chiefs before deciding on the administrative measures to maintain law and order in the area and avoid the recurrence of such incidents. Satpute also mentioned in the application that prior notices had been sent to all the prominent political parties in the state in the year 2018, but no one had responded except NCP Chief Sharad Pawar.

On May 5, Pawar appeared before the commission and recorded his statement after he was issued a summons by the commission. He filed two affidavits with various suggestions to the commission that had sought his presence in connection with the January 2018 violence. Pawar had also filed an affidavit previously before the commission on October 8, 2018, the year in which the violence took place.

The NCP chief had alleged that the rioting took place when some anti-social elements instigated people for their political mileage. Reportedly, the commission on June 8 has not issued summons to NCP Chief Sharad Pawar as he has already filed an affidavit and has recorded his statement.

It is important to note that the state police on May 5, also discharged Hindutva activist and the founder of Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan, Sambhaji Bhide stating that there was no evidence against him. The one-page report submitted by the Police to the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) said that Bhide’s role was not found in the case, hence his name was dropped.

The Pune police had filed a case against Bhide and others under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and various sections of the IPC for their alleged role in the Bhima Koregaon violence. Besides Bhide, another Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote was also booked in the case based on the complaint by Dalit activist Anita Sawale.

The Bhima Koregaon Case-

Violence broke out on January 1, 2018, between different caste groups near the Bhima-Koregoan War memorial near Pune when Dalit activists planned to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the 1818 battle of Koregaon-Bhima. One person had died and many others including 10 policemen were injured in the incident. The investigation by Pune Police concluded that it was the provocative speeches at the ‘Elgar Parishad‘ held at Shaniwarwada on December 31, 2017, that triggered the violence. The Pune Police has also ascertained the role of Maoist groups in organizing the Elgar Parishad conclave.

The following day, i.e on January 1, 2018, large scale violence broke out at Bhima Koregaon near Pune, where lakhs of Dalits had gathered to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, won by the British Army against the Peshwas in 1818. The investigation was transferred to the National Investigation Agency in January 2020.

Islamist fear wins: Indian news channels start removing content that can offend Muslims, show on ‘ex Muslims’ goes missing

Nupur Sharma’s comment and the subsequent outrage by the Islamic community, which led to calls for beheading and gang rape, has opened Pandora’s box. Since PM Modi came to power, Hindus managed to shift the Overton Window substantially, with taboo subjects being spoken about in the open – whether it was the Hindu genocide, the Islamic invasion, distortion of history or reclamation of cultural heritage. However, almost as a live demonstration of Nassim Taleb’s theory of how the “most intolerant wins”, the criticism of Islam seems to be leaving public discourse even before it started becoming “mainstream”.

After the Islamist community, including Taliban and Al Qaeda, in unison screamed “Gustakh-e-Rasool ki saza, sar tan se juda”, media houses seem to be getting scared enough to pull down interviews they thought might offend the Islamists.

India TV, which portends to be the voice of the masses, has pulled down a video where it had interviewed ex-Muslims and why they left the Islamic faith.

The video on Youtube has gone missing and on their website, it says that the video interview of ex-Muslims has been made private.

Screenshot of the article from the India TV website.

An archive copy of their website page, where this video was supposed to be there can be viewed here.

The India TV interview, according to the headline on their website, was a debate between ex-Muslims and Maulanas. After the Nupur Sharma episode, where Islamic nations came out to condemn comments on Islam, Al Qaeda and Taliban issued threats and several Islamic organisations issued a bounty on Nupur Sharma’s head, the show seems to have been pulled down.

Sources in several news channels have stated that after the Nupur Sharma episode, there has been immense pressure that is being exerted by the top bosses on the anchors and editors to remove content that may be seen as offensive to the Islamic community.

The feelers, one such TV journalist said, have come mostly from the owners of the channels. “We were sent subtle messages, feelers, to ensure that shows that may offend Muslims are not done given that the atmosphere is not right after the Nupur Sharma incident. There was also indirect pressure to remove certain shows that may be deemed offensive”.

“The barrage of threats and just how much this issue snowballed has spooked the owners of these channels. They think that the slightest provocation can end up with them getting threats”, he added.

In the past 10 years and especially in the past 8 years, Hindus have managed to shift the Overton Window considerably.

The Overton Window is a set of ideas and policies which are acceptable to the mainstream population at a given time. The spectrum of acceptability ranges from what the society deems “unacceptable” to what set of ideas eventually becomes a government policy acceptable to the mainstream population.

Joshua Treviño has postulated that the six degrees of acceptance of public ideas are roughly:

  • Unthinkable
  • Radical
  • Acceptable
  • Sensible
  • Popular
  • Policy

The Overton Window, simply put, shifts when an acceptable idea becomes popular and then translates to policy. Or better yet, when a radical idea journeys its way through being considered ‘sensible’ to ‘popular’ and then translates into policy.

While Hindus with the help of the government in power, made massive strides in the past few years in shifting the Overton Window, with Media houses cowering to Islamic pressure, Hindus run the risk of the Overton Window shrinking yet again.

With the Nupur Sharma fiasco, one has to imagine that just like India TV, several individuals would also think that if a national spokesperson of the largest political party in the world can be hounded and endangered in this manner, they will be silenced if they tread the same path. While there is a vast difference between a media house cowering to pressure and deleting their content and average citizens who firstly have no might back them when they fall into trouble and also, are not in the profession of standing up to pressure to speak the truth, the shrinking of the Overton Window seems to affect opinions across the board.

It was only recently that Hindus started talking openly about a religion that has historically subjugated, tortured, murdered and raped the Hindu community. It was only recently that we could openly start demanding that our faith gets accorded the same level of respect that other religions demand and that just because we don’t assert our street power, our Gods and Goddesses are not up for insult. It is only recently that Hindus started realising that the “All religions are equal” trope is just that – a trope. While Hindus believe in plurality, Islamists believe that India is Dar-ul-Harb that needs to be converted into Dar-ul-Islam and that for them, Hindus will continue to be Kafirs no matter how many concessions the community makes for them.

Hindus have been abused for aeons, however, in the internet age, the fact that social media can be used to organise an international campaign to demand a woman’s head is a reality that Hindus are trying to come to terms with. In the process, the gains made in opening up the conversation to the masses have taken a severe hit.

As India TV gives in to Islamic pressure, on the other hand, we had India News. Their anchor Pradeep Bhandari had conducted a program where ex-Muslims had exposed the radical Muslims on television, which is still live, for now.

While one expects average citizens to think about their own safety and protection first, media houses are supposed to stand up to pressures from murderous elements. One does not truly expect a media house, one as powerful as India TV, to cower to pressure even before it is exerted upon them. They essentially got vicariously scared of the threats being given to Nupur Sharma and instead of standing up to and calling out the Islamists who were threatening her, they crawled when the Islamists had not yet asked them even to bend.

Karnataka: Uppinangady college suspends 24 girls for wearing hijab and burqa in violation of high court order on uniform dress code

After wearing the Islamic attire of hijab in class on Monday (May 6), the government First Grade College in Uppinangady suspended 24 female students till Saturday. Authorities reportedly issued an order mandating the girls to conform to the college uniform, but the girls insisted on wearing the hijab, according to sources.

The 24 girls were suspended till Saturday after staging a demonstration in which they demanded permission to wear hijab in college, despite a high court ruling in mid-March, following the Karnataka hijab controversy, that all students must adhere to a uniform dress code in schools and colleges. According to the College Development Committee (CDC), girls are not authorised to wear the hijab in the hallways or classrooms.

Speaking on the issue, a college official said, “Yesterday, the girls created a lot of problems in the college by violating uniform rules multiple times despite the CDC and High Court order directing them to wear uniforms. The teachers had a tough time convincing them and they were not ready to listen. Finally, the college principal consulted all the teachers and decided to keep the girls away from classes for four days. The CDC has clearly said that the hijab will not be allowed in classes and the corridor. If the girls still violate the rules, we have no choice but to take strict action.”

The college administration, according to the official, called the parents to the college many times to persuade them of the uniform requirements. Although the parents did not object to the CDC’s decision, the girls remain adamant about wearing the hijab.

The same college, which is associated with Mangalore University, punished six students for two days last week for wearing a hijab. The decision was made after a group of students mounted a protest requesting that the hijab be banned.

Following this incident, BJP politician Yashpal Suvarna and Sri Ram Sena chairman Pramod Muthalik received death threats over social media for opposing the hijab in educational institutions. Yashpal is the vice-president of the Udupi government’s Pre-University College Development Committee. A bounty has been declared on social media on Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik.

It is worth noting that the Karnataka High Court issued its judgment in the hijab case brought by Muslim female students in March of this year. According to the court’s judgement, the girls’ claim that the hijab is an essential practice of the Islamic religion was not proven, and students must obey uniform dress code rules wherever mandated by educational institutions.

Ravindra Jadeja gets hate from Congress supporters for opening Sukanya Samriddhi accounts for underprivileged girls

Popular cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has come under fire for declaring a donation for the welfare of girl children from low-income homes on the occasion of his daughter’s birthday. Jadeja and his wife declared that they will open 101 Sukanya Samruddhi Accounts at the Jamnagar post office and deposit Rs 11000 in each account.

Many social media users are anticipating it as a retirement ploy and criticising the charity work after he shared the details in a tweet. A local level Mumbai Congress leader Zoheb Saleem Shaikh commented on a tweet by Jadeja sharing some pictures from the event, “That is, you or your wife will contest the Lok Sabha elections after retirement in 2024.”

Quoting the tweet, another Twitter user named Afroz Pasha Adv. wrote, “Preparation for assembly elections from BJP, yes anyway career is on the slope, then it is better to keep other options open too.”

Another user, Shahzad Pharma wrote, “Sorry bro – charity is when your right hand doesn’t know, what the left has done. Though I appreciate the gesture but, this – NO”

However, there are several other users who celebrated the move and thanked the Jadeja family for their contribution. A Twitter user Akshansh 16 wrote, “A great initiative by sir it is always an honour for everyone to at least help someone in any way and especially if it’s your daughter’s birthday as they are the most loving creatures of god.”

Ravindra Jadeja shared a tweet on Twitter in which he said that his family is making a noble effort to be helpful to society by the opening of 101 Sukanya Samruddhi Accounts at Post Office, Jamnagar with an initial deposit of Rs. 11000 per SSA account.

“Jadeja couple is very happy to open the Sukanya Samrudhi Account today as part of the special celebration of our beloved daughter’s birthday with the noble dream and inspiration of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji who has completed eight years of his tenure.) would like to thank Shri Dev Singhji Chauhan, Hon’ble Minister for Communications (State Level), Department of Posts for providing support and encouragement to this new endeavour,” he further wrote.

It is notable here that Jadeja has been a target for Leftists before, for sharing a video saying he is proud of his cultural identity.

The Sukanya Samriddhi scheme is a popular program by the government of India to encourage parents to save money for the education of girl children. It provides attractive interest rates and tax benefits. It was started by PM Modi in 2015 under his ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

The controversy around Nupur Sharma’s remarks

On May 26, Nupur Sharma participated in a debate on Times Now, where she retaliated against the Muslim panellist who was continuously abusing Bhagwan Shiv and the Hindu faith. Her remarks were taken out of context by the likes of Alt News’ Mohammed Zubair, and he started a campaign against her. Several Islamists and liberals chipped in, and the whole controversy swirled into international propaganda against India after an online campaign ran on Twitter and other social media platforms. In the end, BJP suspended Nupur Sharma pending an inquiry, but the threats and statements against Sharma and India did not stop. In the latest updates, the terror organization Al-Qaeda has issued a threat to India over Sharma’s remarks.
