‘Blood stains remain even after so many rains’: CBSE removes Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s verses from Class X NCERT books

0

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released its curriculum for the academic year 2022-23 for classes 10th and 12th. Among the changes made in the new curriculum, CBSE has removed the excerpts from two poems by Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz from “Religion, Communalism, and Politics – Communalism, Secular State” section of the NCERT book, Indian Express reported on Saturday.

The curriculum document, which lists the Social Science course content for Class 10, states that the segment on religion, communalism, and politics will continue to be part of the course content “excluding images on pages 46, 48, 49.” The images refer to 2 posters illustrating Urdu poet Faiz’s poems and one political cartoon.

One of the posters illustrating Faiz’s poems is issued by NGO ANHAD, which has among its founders Delhi-riots accused Harsh Mander, and regular fake news peddler Shabnam Hashmi. The other one is issued by the Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) which calls itself one of the largest health and development networks in the world.

The excerpt of the first poem reads, “We remain strangers even after so many meetings, bloodstains remain even after so many rains.” While the second one reads, “Not enough to shed tears, to suffer anguish, not enough to nurse love in secret… Today, walk in the public square fettered in chains.”

The cartoon that has been axed was a political cartoon published in the Times of India and was made by Ajith Ninan. The cartoon shows an empty chair adorned with religious symbols with the caption, “This chair is for the CM-designate to prove his secular credentials. There will be plenty of rocking!”

The textbook was developed by a committee chaired by the late Professor Hari Vasudevan of the University of Calcutta’s Department of History following the revision of the National Curriculum Framework in 2005.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Hum Dekhenge controversy during Anti-CAA protests

During the anti-CAA protests in India towards the end of 2019, Faiz’s hum dekhenge poem had created quite a controversy over its use in the protests. Many people protested over the line sab but uthwaye jayenge (all idols will be removed) for the anti-idolatory tone of the words.

Other changes in the textbooks

Apart from Faiz’s poems, CBSE has also removed chapters on “democracy and diversity”, “Popular struggles and movements” focusing on Nepal and Bolivia, and “challenges to democracy”.

A chapter on “Central Islamic Lands” has also been removed from the History course for Class 11. It dealt with the rise of Islamic empires in Afro-Asian territories.

Shiv Sena workers gherao Maharashtra MP Navneet Rana, attempt to enter her house over chanting ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside ‘Matoshree’

On Saturday, Shiv Sena workers thronged outside the residence of Amravati Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana in Mumbai to protest against her decision to chant Hanuman Chalisa along with her husband MLA Ravi Rana outside ‘Matoshree’ the residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray.

According to the reports, several Shiv Sainiks stormed into the residence of Amaravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana at Khar, Mumbai, to protest against the couple after they had vowed to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence.

Shiv Sena workers also broke through the barricades and tried to enter the residence of Maharashtra MLA Ravi Rana and his wife, MP Navneet Rana.

“Around 8.45 am, angry Shiv Sena supporters broke through the barricades placed at a distance of around 50 meters from the apartment where the Ranas own a flat in suburban Khar. They tried to enter the apartment premises. Shiv Sena supporters raised slogans in support of Thackeray and dared the couple to step out of the residence,” the police official said.

The police brought the situation under control and stopped the party workers from going further, according to the Mumbai Police.

Earlier, Navneet Rana, an independent MP from Amaravati Lok Sabha, had challenged Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to recite Hanuman Chalisa. She also slammed the Maharashtra Chief Minister for not visiting the temple on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanthi. She had also dared the Shiv Sena workers to try and stop them from chanting Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’.

Navneet Rana and her husband had arrived in Mumbai on Friday morning ahead of the Hanuman Chalisa recital. However, Shiv Sena workers gathered at various locations in Mumbai, including Matoshree, threatening the Amaravati Lok Sabha MP and her husband against reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree. The party workers had also warned Ranas of teaching a lesson if they turned up at the spot.

The police had deployed heavy security outside Thackeray’s residence in the Kalanagar area to prevent any untoward incidents.

Later, the Mumbai Police team led by DCP Manjunath Singe had visited the Rana residence and served them a notice from Kherwadi police station under section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). As per the notice, the police have requested them not to disturb the peace and maintain the law and order situation.

Assam: State govt panel suggests using ID cards, census to distinguish ‘Assamese Muslims’ from Bangladeshi Muslims

Following a meeting in July last year between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and members of the Assamese Muslim community from various locations to discuss the group’s socioeconomic problems, the state government formed a panel, which has now proposed issuing a notification recognising “Assamese Muslims” as a distinct group in a state racked by illegal migration from neighbouring Bangladesh.

The panel recommended that Assamese Muslims be issued identification cards or certificates to show their distinct identities. The committees also recommended that the Assam government conduct a census to identify and document Assamese Muslims, as well as pass legislation comparable to Article 333 of the Indian Constitution to give representation in the Parliament and the Assam Legislative Assembly.

The panel, which was divided into seven subcommittees, released its recommendations on Thursday after months of deliberation. The subcommittees were formed to make recommendations on issues such as politics, culture, education, health, skill development, and population stabilisation. The committees were made up of renowned Assamese Muslim journalists, intellectuals, lawyers, activists, and academics.

The indigenous Assamese Muslims are divided into three primary groups: Goriyas, Moriyas (from Upper Assam), and Deshis (from Lower Assam). The Deshis are descended from 13th-century converts from indigenous groups such as Koch Rajbongshi and Mech, whereas the Goriyas and Moriyas are descended from converts as well as warriors, craftsmen, and others who arrived in the region during the Ahom period. This category also includes smaller groups, such as Julha Muslims. These tribes are distinct from Bengali-speaking Muslims who have come from East Bengal or Bangladesh.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who accepted the report on Thursday, stated that all of the proposals were “implementable,” but only in phases.

The report submitted by the panel included recommendations on education, health, skill development, and women’s empowerment. In terms of population stability, the panel recommended that underage marriage be prohibited and that indigenous Assamese Muslims be subjected to population control measures.

Two Muslim men abduct Hindu girl and try to do Nikah with her, force her to convert to Islam in Uttar Pradesh, family alleges police inaction: Details

Despite the existence of stringent laws, grooming jihad cases continue to emerge from various parts of the country. In one such recent case, two Muslim men allegedly abducted a Hindu girl in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh and tried to marry her after forcefully converting her to Islam.

According to reports, the Hindu girl was on her way to the main market when two Muslim men arrived on a bike and abducted her. She was taken to the nearby Mazar of Sayed Baba and was forced to convert her religion to Islam. One of the two men then made several attempts to do nikah with the girl but the girl kept on resisting.

The matter came to light when the father of the victim Sunil Kumar Tiwari was informed about his daughter’s abduction. Tiwari along with other family members inquired in the market about the victim girl and then followed the lead to the nearby Mazar of Sayed Baba. The Muslim men saw the family of the girl approaching them and fled away from the spot leaving the girl in a terrible state of mind.

Tiwari immediately reached the Fatehpur Police station to complain about the unidentified Muslim men. The Police however pressured Tiwari to forget the matter and later lodged a wrong report under irrelevant sections of the law, according to him. The father of the victim said to News18 that the Police were trying to save the accused and so they did not report the actual incident.

The Police reached Tiwari’s residence to record the statement. The VHP leaders also visited Tiwari when they came to know about the case. The VHP leaders reportedly argued with the Police for reporting the wrong case. Dr Vijay Shankar Mishra, dist president of VHP, alleged that the case was serious but the Police had taken it lightly. “The Fatehpur Police is not at all serious about the Love Jihad cases. The girl was abducted and forcefully converted. Yet the Police tried to save the accused. What makes them do that I don’t understand”, he was quoted.

Team Opindia contacted CO Fatehpur Dinesh Chandra Mishra and Addl. SP Rajesh Kumar to know the exact details of the case. But the calls remained unanswered.

It is important to note that this is not the first case of Love Jihad reported from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier on April 6, 2022, the Gazipur Police arrested a Muslim man for abducting an 18-year-old Hindu girl and forcefully marrying her after converting her to Islam.

Also, on April 13, the Police arrested Shoaib, Suhail, Salman, Kallu, and Nurjahan for kidnapping a minor girl and forcing her to convert to her religion. According to the reports, Nurjahan played an important role in the case. She brainwashed the girl and helped the accused four to mishandle her.

Pakistan mosque refuses to make an announcement to trace missing girl Dua Zehra as she has a ‘Shia name’

A mosque in Pakistan’s Karachi has refused to make an announcement for a missing 14-year-old girl Dua Zehra because of her Shia name.

According to reports, fourteen-year-old Dua Zehra Kazmi went missing on April 16 from her residence in Karachi. The Karachi police have so far failed to trace the missing girl. The parents have no clue about her whereabouts ever since she had stepped out of her home to dispose of garbage.

Speaking to the media, Dua’s parents said that a mosque in Karachi refused to make an announcement seeking information to find the missing girl because they were Shias, and mosques do not make announcements for Shia names in Pakistan.

“We cannot announce this name because she’s from the Shia sect,” the mosque reportedly said to the parents.

Meanwhile, the father of Dua has said that if his daughter is not found soon, then he and his family will attempt suicide in front of the Governor’s House.

“My daughter wasn’t even going to school for the past one and a half years,” her father said.

Dua’s mother said, “I want my daughter alive. I am a mother. I will not accept her body like Zainab. I will keep the body outside the Governor House if she is found dead.”

Following Dua’s disappearance, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi police chief to take immediate action for the safe recovery of the child.

Tej Pratap Yadav claims he had a secret meeting in public with Nitish Kumar, says he’s Lord Krishna who would change govt in Bihar

Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest son of Lalu Pratap Yadav, created a stir just hours after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid a visit to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s residence on Friday. Nitish Kumar had arrived at Rabri Devi’s house on the invitation of Tejashwi Yadav to attend Dawat-e-Iftar. Nitish attended a function hosted by the Lalu family or the RJD for the first time in four years.

Tej Pratap Yadav told the media that he had spoken with Nitish Kumar and that Tejashwi Yadav will take over as Bihar’s Chief Minister soon. He stated that Nitish is pleased and that he would disclose the details of the entire strategy when the time is right. Tej Pratap Yadav and Nitish Kumar sat next to each other during the Iftar party. During this, a conversation also took place between the two.

“Earlier I had put up ‘No Entry’ board (for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar), & now I have put up Entry ‘Nitish Chacha Ji’ board, so he came,” he said. “Since he came, govt will be formed…will form govt, it’s a secret. I had a word with Nitish Ji secretly,” he further added.

When asked whether he considers himself Lord Krishna of the politics in Bihar, he said that there is no doubt about it. “Why ask the same question every other time? is there any doubt about it?” he said. He went on to say that they had hosted an Iftar party at which not only Nitish Ji, but also BJP’s Shahnawaz Hussain, LJP’s Chirag Paswan, and other politicians had attended.

However, when asked if Nitish Kumar will join him again, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav did not provide a straight answer. Instead, he stated that he had invited leaders from all political parties to Iftar and It is just a matter of social etiquette.

An Iftar celebration was organised in Rabri Devi’s Patna residence, where Kumar’s presence provoked suspicions of the erstwhile allies’ growing closeness. The chief minister of Bihar was claimed to have spent about 20 minutes at the function.

Elon Musk trolls Bill Gates with a meme to ‘lose a boner fast’: Here’s why the Tesla boss is unhappy with Microsoft founder

On Saturday morning, Billionaire investor-inventor Elon Musk took a swipe at Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates by sharing a tongue-in-cheek post on Twitter. Tesla Inc. chief Elon Musk took to Twitter to share an image of Bill Gates alongside an emoji of a man with a fat belly. Sharing the image, Musk tweeted, “in case you need to lose a boner fast”.

Now, we can’t really afford to interpret what Musk meant when he spoke about “loosing a boner fast”, but it is evident that Elon Musk is upset with Bill Gates and in this article, we attempt to explain why.

Apparently, Elon Musk’s tweet takes a dig at Bill Gates over his affair with a Microsoft employee, which led to a divorce from his wife, Melinda Gates.

One of the reasons why inventor-investor Musk is angry with Bill Gates is that the former Microsoft had previously tried shorting his Tesla stock positions worth half a billion, which could have pushed Tesla’s stock prices downwards.

Twitter user Whole Mars Catalog, who shared images of a purported conversation between Elon Musk and Bill Gates, claimed that Bill Gates had apparently texted Elon Musk to discuss “philanthropy” on climate change. However, Elon Musk had confronted Gates, asking whether he still had a half-billion short positions on Tesla stocks.

The screenshots contain a conversation between Elon Musk and Bill Gates. The screenshots showed a text message from Bill Gates congratulating Elon Musk on the success of SpaceX. In response, Musk asks Gates whether he still had a half-billion-dollar short position against Tesla.

To which Gates confirms, saying, “Sorry to say, I haven’t closed it out”, which meant that Gates still holds considerable short positions on Tesla, which could disrupt Tesla’s stock prices.

Further, Gates also adds that he wanted to discuss philanthropy possibilities.

An angry Musk responds to Bill Gates saying he cannot take his philanthropy activities on climate change seriously when he has a massive short position against Tesla, the company doing the most to solve Climate Change.

The Twitter user also tagged Elon Musk to confirm whether the incident was true.

Elon Musk responded to the Twitter user by saying it was true, but he did not leak it to New York Times.

“They must have got it through friends of friends. I heard from multiple people at TED that Gates still had half-billion short against Tesla, which is why I asked him, so it’s not exactly top secret,” Musk said.

Interestingly, in his inimitable style, Elon Musk not only trolled Bill Gates with his initial meme but also managed to call out Twitter, a company that he has been trying to take over.

Elon Musk responded to his own tweet, in which he had trolled Bill Gates and said that the “shadow ban council” was reviewing the tweet.

Essentially, Elon Musk was talking about the clandestine function of Twitter where the social media giant has the propensity to limit the reach of tweets and opinions that they seem to disagree with. In this, the user does not really know that their tweet has been limited, but Twitter arbitrarily “shadow bans” the tweet without any notification to the user.

Recently, billionaire inventor-investor Elon Musk said he had secured $46.5 billion in financing to fund his Twitter takeover bid. According to reports, Elon Musk has lined up $46.5 billion in debt and equity financing to buy Twitter Inc. The billionaire investor is also considering buying shares directly from shareholders.

Elon Musk is considering funding up to $33.5 billion on his own, including $21 billion of equity and $12.5 billion of margin loans against some of his Tesla Inc shares to invest in Twitter.

According to the filing on Thursday, Musk is also considering a tender offer to buy all company stock from shareholders but has not taken any decision. The filing revealed that a group of banks led by Morgan Stanley is prepared to lend Musk $25.5 billion.

What is a “short position” and how will it affect Tesla

For starters, a short position is a trading technique in which an investor sells the stocks at first at a higher rate, only to buy them later when the prices go down. A trader may decide to short security when he believes that the price of that security is likely to decrease in the near future.

Gates holding half-a-billion short positions of Tesla is bad for Elon Musk since massive short transactions by influential entities like Bill Gates would likely create panic in the market, leading to a fall in prices of stocks in the future. Perhaps, Musk thought that Gates held short positions of Tesla to gain leverage on Elon Musk, hence he may have been angry at Bill Gates.

Musk’s tweet mocking Bill Gates has become an instant hit on Twitter, with people appreciating the sense of humour of the world’s richest man.

‘State govt trying to kill me for raising voice against their corrupt ministers’: BJP leader Mohit Kamboj says his car was attacked by Shiv Sena goons

Maharashtra BJP leader Mohit Kamboj alias Bharatiya has said that Shiv Sena goons attacked his car late on Friday (April 22) night in the Kalanagar area of Mumbai’s Bandra suburb. The BJP leader has also filed a complaint with the Mumbai police in this regard. Kamboj had once alleged that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ministers have links with “drug mafias”.

Matoshree, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence, is located in Kalanagar. The area is currently witnessing a gathering of hundreds of Shiv Sainiks to thwart an attempt by Independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana to recite the Hanuman Chalisa on Saturday morning.

Kamboj, who is a former General Secretary of BJP Mumbai and former president of BJP Yuva Morcha claimed that the incident took place on Friday when he was returning from a marriage. “I had gone to attend a wedding and while returning home, my vehicle stopped at a road signal in Kalanagar area. Suddenly, a mob of a few hundred attacked my vehicle and broke its glasses and damaged the door handles,” Kamboj said in a video statement.

The BJP leader claimed that the attack was an attempt to kill him as he had exposed corruption in the BMC (which is ruled by the Sena) and raised his voice against ‘corrupt ministers’ like Nawab Mallik. “This was an attempt to kill me by Shiv Sena and Maharashtra CM, so as to suppress my voice. Will see what action will be taken by Mumbai Police. Everything is recorded on CCTV,” said Kamboj.

“Governance in Maharashtra proving to be worse than Bengal. Opposition leaders who expose corrupt ministers like Nawab Malik are being attacked by the state govt…I condemn it,” he added.

Shrikant Tara Pandit Bharatiya, the OSD to Ex-Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, uploaded a photo of the BJP leader’s car’s smashed side view mirror and broken handle of the driver’s gate on Twitter.

Videos of the incident have also circulated on Twitter showing the BJP leader’s car stopping on the side of the road by a traffic cop. Some people are seen running after the car as it speeds away seconds later.

The BJP leader Mohit Kamboj himself took to Twitter to re-share videos of the incident posted by various social media users and media agencies. He also shared a copy of the complaint filed by him with the Mumbai Police. He Tweeted in Hindi that roughly translates to, “The attack on me yesterday was a part of a plot to kill me. I have filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police, and my demand is that an FIR is filed and that the perpetrators be prosecuted as soon as possible. If the Maharashtra government is intimidating me, I want them to know that I am not frightened of them!”

It may be noted that, following Raj Thackeray’s stand on the Azaan row, Mohit Kamboj had started distributing loudspeakers to temples on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav on 16th April 2022. Kamboj had said that more than 1,000 loudspeakers will be distributed in temples in the state on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav. He has also invited applications for the same from the entire country. He had then, in an interview with Aaj Tak, been quite critical of the Maha Vikas Agadi government in the state on matters such as atrocities against Hindus in Maharashtra and its bias in issuing guidelines on the loudspeaker issue.

Mohit Kamboj alias Bharatiya is the same BJP leader who had recently alleged that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ministers have links with “drug mafias”. He claimed that Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh used to invite drug peddler Kashiff Khan, the MD of Fashion TV India, to his events. Kashiff Khan’s name had surfaced in connection with the Mumbai cruise narcotics seizure case, in which Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested last year.

Last year, following the arrest of Aryan Khan in the drug case, when the Nationalist Congress Party leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik has been casting aspersion on Narcotics Control Bureau zonal director Sameer Wankhede and others, Mohit Kamboj aka Bharatiya had filed a Rs 100-crore defamation suit against him at Bombay High Court.

Kamboj has alleged that the minister made false allegations against him and his family members in connection to the Cordelia cruise drug bust case in which Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested along with others by the NCB on October 2, under section Section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Kamboj had given enough opportunity and warnings to Malik to restrain from defaming him which Malik ignored and continued the vendetta.

Nawab Malik, whose son-in-law Sameer Khan was also arrested by NCB in a separate drug case, has been holding press conferences on a daily basis to make new charges like the soap opera. The NCP chief spokesperson also levelled various allegations against Kamboj and his family. He said that Rishab Sachdeva, the brother-in-law of Kamboj and two others were let off by the NCB despite they were present during the alleged rave party on the cruise. Malik claimed that they were detained by NCB and released later on. Kamboj had earlier issued a notice to Malik on October 9 asking him to desist from making defamatory statements. But Malik on October 11 again repeated the same allegation while talking to some news channels. Kamboj sent him a second legal notice on the same day and asked him to prove the allegations.

On Oct 26, Kamboj filed a criminal complaint before the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate at Mazgaon requesting the court to take legal action against Malik under sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the IPC.
