A week after Journalist Aarti Tikoo Singh dragged Twitter to the Delhi High Court for blocking her account, the social media giant has written to Tikoo’s lawyer Mukesh Sharma informing that her account has been restored. Twitter has also asked The New Indian co-founder to withdraw the petition or request the High Court to close it. According to Twitter, the case has become infructuous after they restored the account. The Twitter account of Aarti Tikoo Singh was blocked after she had tweeted about threats her brother was receiving from Islamists.
In relation to a petition by Founder & Editor of The New Indian Arti Tikoo in Delhi High Court challenging the locking of her account by Twitter due to a tweet on Islamist radicals, Twitter Inc has written to Tikoo’s lawyer stating that it has already restored her account. pic.twitter.com/P6x0kBgXgu
In December last year, Tikoo had posted a Twitter space video in which her brother Sahil Tikoo had participated and was referred to as an ‘Indian Agent’ among other accusations levelled against him. “My brother who lives in Srinagar, being openly threatened by jihadi terrorists sitting in Kashmir-India & their handlers in Pakistan, UK & US. Is anyone watching? Are we sitting ducks waiting to be shot dead by Islamists or will you crack down on them?”, she had tweeted.
My brother @TikooSahil_ who lives in Srinagar, is being openly threatened by jihadi terrorists sitting in Kashmir-India, & their handlers in Pakistan, UK & US. Is anyone watching? Are we sitting ducks waiting to be shot dead by Islamists or will you crackdown on them? @HMOIndiapic.twitter.com/RkLBFEcBmu
Following this, Twitter had locked the journalist’s account, issuing her a notice that she could unlock her account only if she deleted the tweet about her brother getting threats. Twitter, for some odd reason, decided that the tweet raising alarm over her brother getting threats violated their community standards.
In the notice, Twitter had said, “You may not promote violence against, threaten or harass other people on the basis of race, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious identity, religious affiliation, age, disability or serious disease”.
On January 6, Tikoo had dragged Twitter to the Delhi High Court saying that her rights under the constitution were violated and Twitter was siding with Islamist terrorists by locking her account. The plea filed through advocate Mukesh Sharma stated that the manner in which her brother was targeted by some participants was reminiscent of January 1990. However, she was shocked to see that Twitter served her a notice for this Tweet saying it went against their Rules on Hateful Conduct, the petition said.
The petition also added that Twitter’s action had violated her rights under Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India, and demanded that the decision of the social media company be quashed. The Delhi High Court in response had issued a notice on January 11 to Twitter and the government challenging the social media giant’s decision to lock her account. Justice Rekha Palli had also requested a response from the Centre and Twitter Inc., while also providing three weeks to file a counter-affidavit in the issue.
Twitter is known for its extreme left-wing bias, which blocks and suspends right-wing voices even at smallest matters, but refuses to take action against leftists and Islamists users. But the example of Aarti Tkoo shows that if someone stands by their ground and takes legal action against the company instead of complying with its demands, the company may be forced to reverse its anti-right wing actions.
In 2020, Twitter had locked the account of scientist and columnist Dr Anand Ranganathan on the platform for posting a Quranic verse. In his tweet, Dr Anand Ranganathan had quoted a verse from Quran which stated that those who abuse Allah and His Messenger (Prophet), Allah has cursed them in this world and the hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment. The verse is mentioned in Quran, but despite that Twitter had blocked his account saying it is against the rules of the platform and is ‘hateful conduct’. However, later Twitter restored his account and had tendered an apology to Dr Anand Ranganathan.
In this regard, it can be added that OpIndia was once forced to delete an editorial cartoon last year after the company locked the account. While OpIndia had appealed the decision, a decision was taken to delete the cartoon to get the account restored. In hindsight, it can be said that OpIndia also could have gone to court, and perhaps Twitter would have blinked then also if it was done. But it would have taken time, and OpIndia couldn’t have afforded to keep it’s Twitter handle idle for months while the matter is heard by a court. By deleting cartoon also the portal suffered a loss, because it resulted in the loss of followers as the Twitter algorithm put OpIndia as one of the handles that broke its rules.
It is interesting to note that while Twitter blinked in the case of Aarti Tikoo, the company had taken a different stand in the case of Supreme Court lawyer Sanjay Hegde. Twitter had permanently suspended his Twitter account, and when he had approached the Delhi High Court, the court had advised him to live without Twitter. The company had said that it can suspend the account of any individual user found in breach of their service agreement and that it has a “contractual obligation” to do so. The micro-blogging platform further stated that it is not in any way obliged to further the freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.

There are two type of girls who fall victim to grooming jihad, said Kavita Dubey, a social worker in Surat who has been dealing with cases of grooming jihad for a few years now. The target girls are divided into two parts: Poor Dalit Hindu girls or upper-caste Hindu girls belonging to low income group, mostly migrant Maharashtrian Brahmin girls or upper-caste affluent girls from financially well off families.
Dubey, who hails from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, now calls Surat her home. We had earlier shared the ordeal of Pooja (name changed) from Sachin, an industrial area near Surat, who fell victim to grooming jihad when she was a minor but is now back home with her parents.
“One girl of Soni community, who was a gold medalist in M. Sc. and was also pursuing higher studies gave it all up after she ‘fell in love’ with a Muslim boy who worked as a waiter in a nearby hotel. At that time she only knew him as Sameer and was not aware that he was a not Hindu,” said an activist who did not want to be named. The duo eloped to Mumbai and got married.
However, two years later she decided to return. The girl contacted her mother who took help of police, government officials and social activists to bring her back.
Upon her return she revealed the horrifying tales of harassment she had to endure. The girl was tortured for over one and a half years. She said she was forced to have sex with other male friends of Sameer and was also forced to convert to Islam. The torture began soon after she discovered that Sameer had hidden his religious identity.
She revealed that she was beaten up, forced to wear burqa, read Quran, drink alcohol and forced to have sex with other men but she did not agree to it. “She returned safely, but many, many girls just disappear,” the activist revealed.
Over the years, OpIndia has reported multiple cases where the perpetrator has changed his Muslim identity to lure a Hindu girl into a romantic relationship and then either exploited her or later forced her to convert to Islam. In November 2020, the Uttar Pradesh administration formed an SIT to look into cases of grooming jihad and the police found criminality in 11 out of the 14 cases that were being probed by the SIT. In September 2020, we had reported a list of 20 cases of grooming jihad from Uttar Pradesh and states in just two months.
“Another such story is of a girl from Jain community. Her family was financially very well off and very educated. The conversion in such cases is not very obvious. The marriage happens as per Special Marriage Act, but soon, after just few months, they get the girl to convert to Islam. In most cases we have seen that the girl is usually taken to dargahs and maulvis make them tie some thread or drink some ‘holy water’, after which they start getting more inclined towards Islam,” the activist said.
“After the girl converted to Islam, her family broke all relations with her and went to rescue her after they got to know the boy was bringing another wife. The girl, along with her three children, returned to her parents’ home, but because after her conversion she is governed by the Islamic personal law, she has very little legal recourse,” the activist explained.
The activist said that in most cases, the couple elopes to either Junagadh, if they are in Saurashtra region or to Mumbai if they are in South Gujarat region. “Mumbai, Thane, Navapur and Malegaon are preferred destination. The laws regarding conversion are not as strict in Maharashtra and hence they find it safe to go there,” he said. “You won’t believe, we got one case where the nikahnama was registered in Delhi but the girl had never been to Delhi in her life,” he added.
Well-oiled mechanism for grooming jihad
“Maulvis in many masjids and dargahs on the outskirts of cities play a huge role in such cases. There is one dargah in Limbayat near Surat where training is given to young, ‘good looking’ Muslim boys on how to flirt with girls and lure them into relationships. Other training for anti-social activities are also given. They also fund their lavish lifestyles. How else do explain a young boy who lives in 10×10 kholi riding a bullet when his salary is hardly two to five thousand?” said the activist.
“Dargahs and madarsas in the outer part of the cities are the epicentres for such activities,” he explained. Madarsas are Islamic religious educational institutions for the study of Islam. Dargahs are shrines or tombs of Sufi saints and visits to dargahs is referred to as ‘ziyarat’. Some Muslims believe that they are divine portals and visiting these shrines gives them blessings of the deceased saint. Surprising for a faith that considers idol worship one of the biggest sins, revering tombs is considered pilgrimage.
In Bharuch, the nursing colleges and hospitals run by some trusts are targets to convert tribal women to Islam. Speaking to OpIndia, an activist from Bharuch said that a lot of tribal women are trained to be nurses and are then employed at hospitals run by trusts run by Muslims. A lot of these doctors are associated with Ahl al-Hadith. Adherents of Ahl al-Hadith are often referred to as ‘traditionalists’ and consider the Quran and authentic Hadith to be only authority in matter of law.
Dargah at Platform no. 3, Bharuch Railway Station
The nursing staff of these colleges are often victims of forced conversion. “They are lured by providing them with job, food and promise of better future. Do you know there is one dargah right on the railway station of Bharuch on platform no. 3? These are all encroachments but one can’t do anything about them,” the activist said. The dargah on the Bharuch railway station has been there for years now. My grandmother was born and brought up in Bharuch and as a child I have gone to Bharuch a few times. I saw it but never noticed it.
Other dargahs which are often frequented by Hindus are in Kim, Paryej, Palej. Around 7-8 dargahs in and around Bharuch and Surat are involved in such activities. “There is one village Tankaria in Bharuch, where the population is about 12-13 thousand of which about 4 thousand are Hindus. But there is no temple. When Hindus don’t have a place of aastha, their faith will get diluted,” he said.
There is one Dargah near Hansot where 95% of people who visit it are Hindus. “These are their institutions of faith. Hindus start considering these maulvis their gurus. While the Hindus visiting these dargahs continue to consider themselves Hindus, their faith has diluted. So one can’t say that they are victims of forced conversion, but there is indeed dilution of faith,” said the activist who has been associated with these cases for over two decades now.
The ‘training’
“I have attended one such training session in disguise. They are told which Hindu areas to target. They get money for bikes, petrol and young girls who take public transport are their soft targets. They flirt with the girls, then start offering lifts to their college and such and increase closeness. Garbage collectors in the area, most of which are from their community, give them information about such girls,” the activist said.
Turns out, gyms, dance classes and salons are also such areas where they ‘target’ financially well off women, some of whom are even married. They give them attention and increase proximity. “In fact, many times Muslim girls act as their allies. They become friends with the Hindu girls and pass on their numbers to the Muslim boys,” he said. While in ‘friendship’ stage, the Hindu girls then start accompanying their Muslim girlfriends and even the boys to Dargahs.
At some such Dargahs, they are made to wear some threads or some sort of taveez. “They make the girls drink water at such Dargahs. This kind of vashikaran then takes pace at Dargahs where they start diluting their Hindu faith and it is very easy for them to lean towards Islam,” he said. “MTB College, Navyug College in Surat are prime targets where these guys stand outside and get their targets,” he said.
A lot of times Hindu Dalit girls or girls from lower-income groups are targeted. “It is an unfortunate truth about our times. These girls come from very poor backgrounds. Their fathers, brothers are usually addicted to alcohol and they have seen domestic abuse since childhood. Then comes this boy who gets her gifts, tells them how he does not drink because alcohol is haram in their religion and shows her empathy. The girl then starts getting attracted to him and eventually they elope, get married and she gets converted to Islam. In most of these cases, girls are made to believe that boy is financially well off enough to take care of her unlike her father, brother. Only later they get to know the truth, by when it is too late,” another activist from Surat said.
An activist from Bharuch while speaking to OpIndia said, “They take advantage of the years old divide of Savarnas vs Dalits. This is a targeted attack. Society also does not come forward proactively in such cases,” he said.
Escaping law because of loopholes and support
Lawyers who are involved in conversion are ready with all the documents and affidavits, the activist explains. “They have funding and financial support as high profile lawyers in the city defend them in the court of law. One jewellery store owner on Athawa lines, who is a Muslim, is one of the prominent persons who helps them with funding,” he explained.
Interestingly, in a lot of these cases, the boys who do these activities are also from other states. Their only proof of address is their rent agreement where they have often used fake names. Hence, even when these cases are pursued legally, they meet dead ends quite soon. “We are not against love or against marriage. But it is the intention with which they are done is an issue. The Special Marriage Act which is supposed to protect interest of both the parties is being exploited. It should be amended and provision should be brought in that at least one blood relative of both the parties should be present at the time of registration.
In fact, sometimes the religious conversion at some of these dargahs take place right outside the premises. Essentially inside the gates of the dargah, but not within the premises. “This way they claim no conversion activities take place in the dargah, but just because the maulvis step out of the door doesn’t give it a clean chit,” the activist said.
Dargahs are the epicentres for such criminal activities, especially religious conversion, he insisted.
1992 Ajmer sexual exploitation of Hindu girls
In 1992, Ajmer in Rajasthan woke up to a sordid tale of hundreds of Hindu girls sexually abused. Many of these girls were still in school. A local newspaper ‘Navjyoti’ published some nude images and a story that spoke about school students being blackmailed by local gangs. It turned out a specific group of influential men were targetting young girls where they would trap one girl and manage to take obscene images. Then they would blackmail the girl into familiarising them to her classmates and friends. Eventually, other girls would be raped, sexually exploited and have their pictures taken. The cycle continued so forth. The gang continued to expand its operations and victimise an increasing number of girls.
It turned out the local authorities were aware of the scandal for over a year before it became public knowledge. But they let the local politicians stall the investigation. Navjyoti Editor Deenbandhu Chaudhary himself had said that he was skeptical of running the story as one of the accused belonged to the influential family of ‘Khadims’. Khadims are the families of traditional caretakers of the Ajmer Dargah, they claim to be the direct descendants of the first followers of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty and hold significant influence in the local communities. The police had stalled the case because the local politicians warned action against the accused would lead to massive communal tension.
Finally, an FIR was lodged and investigations led to 18 being charged in the case. Most of the accused were Muslims, many from the families of Khadims and most victims were young Hindu girls. Farooq Chishty, one of the main accused who also happened to be a youth Congress leader, was declared mentally unstable. Farooq Chishty was the president of the Ajmer Youth Congress while two other accused, Nafis Chishty and Anwar Chishty were the vice-president and joint secretary respectively of the city Congress unit.
Another unfortunate realisation was that many of the victims, being young and vulnerable, had already committed suicide.
Ajmer town is often talked about as epitome of communal peace and harmony. The Ajmer Sharif Dargah is one of the most prominent Dargahs in India. It is the tomb of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti. Hindus and Muslims visit the shrine and even actors and politicians like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Shashi Tharoor and even former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi have visited the Dargah. Many of the accused in the above rape and blackmail case belonged to the families of the caretakers of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.
Congress party on Thursday announced its first list of 125 candidates for upcoming UP assembly elections. The party has nominated 50 women in the first list, which includes Tamil actress Archana Gautam. She will be adding glamour to the upcoming UP assembly elections by contesting from the Hastinapur seat in Meerut district on a Congress ticket.
The model actress joined the Congress party in November 2021, and within just two months, she has been given a ticket to contest assembly polls.
Interestingly, she had joined the party twice in that month. While several persons had joined the party on November 26 in Lucknow, Archana Gautam had complained that she was not given proper respect during the event, and she was inducted at the party along with several others. She had alleged that while Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and party general secretary Pramod Tiwari was present at the stage, only the formality of joining was done and there was no special mention of her. Her father had also said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was supposed to induct her into the party, but it was not done.
After she made her displeasure known, the very next day Bhupesh Baghel organised a separate event in the hotel where he was staying, and inducted her into the party. After her joining, it was being speculated that she will be given a ticket for the assembly polls.
Priyanka Gandhi had released the list earlier on 13th January 2022, which includes 40 per cent women candidates. Priyanka Gandhi has given an assembly ticket to Archana Gautam who has won the Miss Bikini title in 2018. She is known as Sunny Leone of the South.

Archana Gautam had debuted in Bollywood with the adult comedy movie Great Grand Masti. After that, she has appeared in a few Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies. Her other two Hindi movies are Haseena Parkerand Baaraat Company. Apart from movies, she has also acted in several TV serials, like Sathia Saath Nibhana, Kubool Hai, CID etc.
Born in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Archana Gautam did Bachelor of Journalism and Communication from IIMT, Meerut. After that, she started a career in modelling and acting. She won the miss Uttar Pradesh title in 2014, and after four years in 2018, she won the Miss Bikini India title. She also own the Miss Cosmos India title in 2018.
Tamil actress Archana Gautam gets a Congress ticket
With Priyanka Gandhi leading its way, Congress has made 2022 UP assembly elections a pride issue. With a prime slogan like ‘Ladki hoon, Lad Sakti hoon’, Congress is trying to focus its election run around women-centric issues. A fresh attempt in this sequence was seen when the party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has released its first list of 125 candidates for the upcoming UP assembly elections. The list includes 40 percent that is a total of 50 women candidates and Tamil actress Archana Gautam is one of them.
Archana Gautam hails from the Meerut district and she has been given an assembly ticket by the Congress party from the Hastinapur seat in the same district. The Tamil actress is also known as Sunny Leone of the South. She has won the Miss Bikini title in 2018. She had earlier left the congress party but in November 2021, she joined the party back. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior congress leader Bhupesh Baghel had then played an important role in bringing her back into the party. She is said to have been inspired by Priyanka Gandhi and her election campaign that revolves around women-centric issues.
On Thursday, the Indian National Congress released its first list of 125 candidates for the Uttar Pradesh Election 2022, which included Sadar Jafar who has been nominated from the Lucknow Central constituency. Activist and Congress spokesperson Sadaf Jafar is the one who was arrested along with 150 others accused in the anti-CAA protests in Lucknow.
Jafar is also a media panellist of the UP Congress and has been active at various protest demonstrations. She keeps raising issues against the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. This is after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had promised 40 per cent stake for women in ticket distribution for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Jafar thanked Priyanka Gandhi for recognizing her struggle and giving her this responsibility. “This is a big challenge. ‘Ladki hu, lad sakti hu’, slogan is for all those women who have struggled. I will fight against unemployment, inflation and also atrocities faced by women. Only then will I be able to make justice to the ‘Ladki hu, Lad Sakti hu’ campaign”, said Sadaf Jafar while talking to media.
‘She continued to fight’, Priyanka Gandhi praises Sadaf Jafar
Priyanka Gandhi while appealing for more women in politics, a few days ago had said, “No one is here to protect you. Only those who talk about protecting you are protected, but not you.” Today while releasing the candidate list, she revealed that out of 125 people on the list, 50 are women and this is a historic decision. “We have selected people who we believe will be helpful in re-defining politics in the state”, she added.
Praising Jafar, Gandhi said that that she has struggled a lot and this was her chance. “During the Anti-CAA NRC protests, the police had unnecessarily arrested her. Both her children were alone at home. She was brutally beaten. Her posters were put in the city. But she continued to fight”, the Congress General Secretary added.
संघर्ष की व नई राजनीति बनाने वाली आवाजें जब एक साथ आएंगी तो बदलाव तय है।
यूपी की जीत का दृढ़ संकल्प लेकर जब हम साथ चलेंगे तो बदलाव तय है।
Priyanka had demanded Jafar’s release from Anti-CAA protest case-
It is worth noting that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had supported Sadaf Jafar in the Anti-CAA protests and demanded her release from the jail. She had also launched attacks on the ruling BJP party and said that BJP had shown its ideology by arresting ‘innocents’. “BJP has shown its real ideology by arresting innocents and those taking forward Ambedkar’s ideology. The police failed to provide any evidence in the court. Lies can never win”, she had tweeted on Jafar’s release.

Jafar was arrested on December 19 along with 150 others when the protests against the CAA in Lucknow turned violent. The Uttar Pradesh police had charged her with serious offences under the Indian Penal Code, including inciting violence and damaging public property.
Authorities in Lucknow had put up roadside banners with photographs of people including Sadaf Jafar and asked them to pay compensation for damage to public property during anti-CAA protests. Jafar had termed the move unethical and vowed to take legal recourse. “How can we be publicly humiliated for something that has not yet been proved in court, she had said.

Excavations for the construction started in January 2021 and were completed in March 2021. The engineering fill of the excavated site has been divided into 5 zones and constitutes of 48 layers, each layer of 250 mm thickness. The temple is said to have a total of 360 columns, each having 16 idols to include the incarnations of Shiva, the Dashavataras, the Chausath Yoginis, and the 12 incarnations of the goddess Saraswati.
Currently, the plinth stone erection process is going on which will be completed by March 2022.
According to the visuals, the execution process began in the month of September 2021 when the tower cranes were installed at the location. At present, the columns of the temple are being fixed and the process is estimated to gain ground by the month of March this year. Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on August 2021 had informed that the construction of Ram Mandir was gaining pace and that it would be ready soon. “The doors would be opened for all devotees for darshan soon”, it had tweeted.
The construction of the Bhavya Mandir at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi is going on at a fast pace. It will be ready soon and the doors would be opened for all devotees for darshan.
— Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra (@ShriRamTeerth) August 5, 2021
The original design for the Ram temple was prepared in 1988 by the Sompura family of Ahmedabad. The Sompuras have been part of the design of over 100 temples all over the world for at least 15 generations, including the Somnath temple. While the temple architect is being looked after by the company of Chandrakant Sompura, Larsen & Toubro have offered to oversee the design and construction of the temple free of cost and are the building contractors of the project. Meanwhile, Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd has been designated as a project management consultant.
The Sompura family had designed the Akshardham Temple of Gujarat and the Somnath Temple too. The Ram Mandir is designed by Chandrakantbhai Sompura and his sons.
The construction work will be accomplished with 600 thousand cubic feet of sandstone Bansi mountain stones from Rajasthan. Thirty years ago, more than two hundred thousand bricks etched with the ‘Shri Rama’ in several languages had arrived from various parts of the country, these will be utilized in the foundation.
According to the reports, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust began the first phase of construction of the Ram Temple in March 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown in India followed by the 2020 China–India skirmishes caused a temporary suspension of the construction.
The temple construction officially started again after a Bhoomi Poojan ceremony on 5 August 2020. Three-day long Vedic rituals were held ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony, which revolved around the installation of a 40 kg silver brick as the foundation stone by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had earlier said that the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya would be ready in three years time. The Trust will open the temple for devotees by December 2023 and the entire project including the museum, digital archives and a research centre will be complete by the year 2025.
News Broadcasters Federation, the largest congregation of news broadcasters including Republic TV, TV9, Asianet and most major regional TV news networks, has expressed displeasure over the failure of BARC to publish the viewership ratings of news channels in the country. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Wednesday (12 January 2022) had issued a directive to BARC to resume the release of ratings with immediate effect, but the same has not been done yet.
BARC had suspended the publication of weekly viewership ratings following the allegations of manipulation by India Today TV and two other networks had emerged in 2020. However, the controversy had taken an ugly turn after Mumbai Police had targeted Republic TV in the case, instead of taking action against India Today which was named in the complaint and the FIR.
NBF has said that it is deeply disappointed over BARC withholding the television ratings for the news genre, despite clear directions from the Ministry to resume it with immediate effect. The News broadcasters Federation (NBF) in a press release said that the audience viewership data for new channels is with BARC and withholding it despite clear instruction from the Ministry, is not necessary.
The Press release asks BARC to comply with the order from the ministry and release the news genre ratings without any further delay. It reads, “The BARC should comply and release the ratings of news channels without any further delay. If there are news channels that don’t want ratings they can be voluntarily exempt.” The request is in light of the losses suffered by the News broadcasters in advertising as the performance ratings of News channels were not released.
“NBF calls upon BARC to release the ratings and not delay this any further, to put an end to the severe challenge the news genre was facing as advertising was deeply hurt in absence of any ratings,” he federation further said.
The BARC was asked to resume publication of TRP data after a halt of 16 months following the alleged charges on manipulation of ratings in October 2020. Revoking the curb, The I & B ministry on Wednesday said, “We have asked BARC to release the News ratings with immediate effect and also to release the last three months data, for the genre in a monthly format, for fair and equitable representation of true trends.”
In a statement, the ministry had said, “In the spirit of the TRP committee report and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI’s) recommendation dated 28.04.2020, M/s Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has undertaken revision in its processes, protocols, oversight mechanism and initiated changes in governance structure etc. The reconstitution of the board and the technical committee to allow for the induction of independent members have also been initiated by BARC. A permanent oversight committee has also been formed. The access protocols for data have been revamped and tightened.”
News Broadcasters Federation is one of the two rival organisations of TV news networks in India, which was created on the initiative of Arnab Goswami, the current board president of the group. The other organisation is News Broadcasters Association, which comprises NDTV, News18, Times Network, TV Today, Zee News, India TV, ABP and some others, and is currently chaired by Rajat Sharma. While NBA has most national news networks, NBF is much larger in terms of the number of members as it has a large number of regional channels as members, and currently has over 50 members.
Sohail Kaskar, the nephew of India’s most-wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim has fled to Pakistan. The attempts of Mumbai Police to trace Sohail, who was jailed in the US after being convicted on charges of narco-terrorism have failed. According to recent sources, Kaskar has fled to Pakistan via Dubai.
#Breaking | In a blow to fight against terror, Dawood Ibrahim’s kin Sohail Kaskar slips out of the net.
Recently, the Mumbai Police had intercepted a phone conversation with Sohail’s voice. After consultation with the American agencies, it was confirmed that he had fled to Pakistan via Dubai. Questions are being raised over the cooperation of Mumbai Police and investigative units in the US over this case. Kaskar is the son of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother.
As per reports, Kaskar and his associate Danish Ali were arrested by the US and Spanish government agents from Spain under charges of arms smuggling and narcotics dealing. While the Indian police were able to get Danish Ali extradited from the USA, Kasar’s extradition was awaited.
It is not yet understood how and under what circumstances Kaskar managed to flee to Pakistan from the USA. A report by Republic TV stated that CBI officials had no information on his travel to Pakistan.
Since his detention in September 2015 in the US, Indian officials were trying through various diplomatic means to bring Kaskar to India. Mumbai Police and the Indian agencies were trying hard for Sohail Kaskar’s extradition to India under the India-USA mutual legal assistance treaty (2005).
Sohail Kaskar had been caught in Spain in 2014 and brought to the United States over charges of narco-terrorism and for selling arms to Colombian rebels. Sohail had left India at the age of 10 with his father Noora Kaskar and uncle Dawood Ibrahim after the Mumbai serial bomb blasts in 1993.
On January 12, the Pakistan government’s mouthpiece Radio Pakistan launched another anti-India propaganda and sided with the banned Khalistani terrorist organization Sikhs for Justice. In a post on its website, Radio Pakistan claimed India is running propaganda to ‘defame’ Sikhs for Justice.

Recently, based on the intelligence information provided by the Indian government, the German authorities arrested terrorist Jaswinder Singh Multani of Sikhs for Justice, who was involved in the Ludhiana Court blast. Radio Pakistan tried to defend SFJ by saying it had distanced itself from the terror attack. Pakistan further claimed that the US administration had refused India’s narrative to label the Khalistan movement as a terrorist.
SFJ has written multiple times to Imran Khan for support
In the past, Sikhs for Justice has written to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on multiple occasions to support the Khalistan movement officially. Recently, just two days before the Golden Temple lynching case, SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had written to Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, to support SFJ to “Free Punjab” and form “Khalistan”.
In the letter addressed to Khan on December 16, terrorist organization SFJ called itself a “human rights advocacy group”. The letter read, “SFJ is conducting its first-ever global non-governmental Khalistan Referendum on the question ‘should Indian governed Punjab be an Independent country”?” and sought his support in the referendum.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannu’s anti-India propaganda
For years, SFJ’s founder and designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has been making provocative speeches. He was directly linked to the January 26 incident in which he had urged Sikh youth to hoist the Khalistani flag on Red Fort. On January 26, two flags were hoisted on Red Fort with the holy Sikh symbol. Recently, SFJ took the responsibility of blockade of PM Modi’s convoy in Ferozpur. Several advocates of the Supreme Court had recently reported that they had received threatening calls from SFJ operatives from the UK in which they warned the apex court not to peruse the case.
Aam Aadmi Party’s latest political stunt #JantaChunegiCM has turned out to be a harrowing experience for a Twitter user. Turns out, the number AAP released for the campaign is so similar to this Twitter user that all AAP supporters and some critics are sending their votes and favourite candidate and, well, some abuses, to this individual instead of sending it to AAP hotline. Here is what happened:
Earlier in the day, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal announced a phone number for the ‘WhatsApp call/message’ hotline and urged people to send in the name of their favourite candidate for upcoming Punjab elections as CM face.
The number on Truecaller revealed it was saved in name of ‘Lavnasur CM Bhagwant Mann’.
AAP number
Lavnasur is the monicker given to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal by Twitter users. You can read about why he is called so here.
Except, some AAP followers noted down a wrong number and ended up being a nightmare for Tarun Bhairam, a Twitter user.
Tarun’s tweet
Tarun tweeted to Arvind Kejriwal, bewildered, that it seems like he gave away his number for the WhatsApp campaign for Punjab CM.
Tarun’s tweet
However, turns out that Bhairam’s phone number is very similar to AAP hotline and many AAP supporters likely noted down a wrong number and inundated him with their choice of CM. As one can see, various people including someone identifying himself/herself as ‘Trendy Girls’ wanted Bhagwant Mann as CM. But they all seem to have gotten the number wrong.
