Neerja Modi School in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has terminated services of a teacher identified as Nafisa Atari for celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in World T20 World Cup match on Sunday.

On October 25, a WhatsApp post of a teacher identified as Nafisa Atari, a teacher of Neerja Modi School, Udaipur, Rajasthan, started to get viral on social media platforms. In the post, Atari had shared an image of Pakistani players with the text, “Jeet gaye, we won”. Nafisa was heavily criticized for the post. The netizens questioned what she might be teaching in her class if she was openly supporting Pakistan.

However, she has since been fired from the school.

School terminated Nafisa Atari

On Monday evening, several netizens shared a termination notice on Twitter where it was mentioned that Nafisa was terminated from the services. The notice in Hindi read, “Nafisa Atari, teacher at Neerja Modi School, has been terminated from the school with immediate effect during the meeting of Sojatia Charitable Trust.” The trust runs the Neerja Modi School. The notice did not mention the reason for termination.

OpIndia reached out to Neerja Modi School in Udaipur to confirm the news. The school confirmed that Nafisa Atari was terminated yesterday during the meeting and said that the information floating on the social media platforms is accurate.

Nafisa claimed she is not a Pakistani supporter

A video of the teacher is also getting viral on the social media platforms in which she claimed her post was taken “out of context”. Nafisa said during the match, her family got divided into two teams, and each team supported either side. As her team was supporting Pakistan, she posted the status on the messaging app WhatsApp.

She said, “One of the parents who were on my contact list asked if I support Pakistan. I said yes. I thought it was a joke as there was an emoji at the end of the message.” The message that the particular parent had sent had a facepalm emoji at the end. Nafisa further claimed she was a patriot and could not support Pakistan ever.

MP: Congress MLA’s rape accused son Karan Morwal arrested in Indore after ‘wanted’ posters were put up

0

On Tuesday (October 26), Karan Morwal, the son of Congress’ Badnagar MLA Murli Morwal, was arrested by the police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, reported Times Now. The development comes days after the cops put up ‘wanted posters‘ of the rape accused and announced a cash prize.

Karan Morwal had been absconding for the past 7 months after allegedly raping a female Youth Congress worker. The victim had filed a complaint against the Congress leader’s son in April this year. According to the woman, the incident took place on February 14. She said that the accused came to Indore and he took her to Hotel Pride, where she fell unconscious after drinking something that Morwal had offered her.

Morwal then reportedly took her to her flat in an unconscious state and raped her. The victim said that when she realized she was raped, the accused assured her that he would marry her. However, later, he raped her on the pretext of marriage. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on April 2, on the basis of the complaint of the woman. Charges were filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 (rape), 376(2)N (rape for more than one time), 376 (2) J, 506 (criminal intimidation) and 294 (obscene act at public places).

Kashmir students who celebrated India’s loss to Pakistan booked under UAPA, to be barred from govt jobs

Students in Kashmir’s Srinagar colleges who celebrated Pakistan’s victory against India in T20 World Cup on Sunday are booked under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Two separate cases are registered in two separate incidents, one at the hostel of SKIMS hospital in Soura and another at the hostel in Government Medical College (GMC) in Karan Nagar, Srinagar.

Students pursuing MBBS and other degrees residing in the hostel raised slogans, including ‘azadi’ slogans and burst crackers while celebrating India’s loss to Pakistan. The FIR is still open and the accused are yet to be identified, reports said.

Further, reports say that the students will also be barred from selection in government jobs.

After India’s loss to Pakistan, videos went viral on social media where purported students in these colleges were found celebrating, cheering and dancing joyfully.

Another video showed Kashmiri student singing the Pakistan national anthem on India’s loss.

Meanwhile, PDP (People’s Democratic Party) chief Mehbooba Mufti questioned what was wrong in Kashmiris celebrating India’s loss to Pakistan after all.

She even invoked the abrogation of Article 370 which removed the special status to erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir and removed riders attached to it as part of Union of India.

‘Safe City’ project in Bengaluru awarded to Honeywell Automation, was mired in controversy over irregularities: All you need to know

0

Earlier last week, Honeywell Automation Pvt Ltd announced that it would lead the Bengaluru Safe City project under the Nirbhaya Fund by the Government of India. An initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the project aims to build safe, secure and empowering environment for women and girls in the aftermath of a horrifying rape incident in New Delhi in 2016.

The contract valued at Rs 496.67 crores entails building infrastructure across Bengaluru through extensive use of audio-video systems, drones and CCTVs. It had unfortunately landed into controversy last year after gross irregularities were reported in the tender process of the contract.

Bengaluru is one of the eight cities chosen for the government’s Safe City project, which involves identification of hot spots of crimes against women, scaling infrastructure, technology advancement and capacity building in the community through awareness programs.

Honeywell Automation, which won the bid for Bengaluru’s Safe City Project, said it will build an integrated Command and Control Centre to manage a state-of-the-art video system that features more than 7,000 CCTV cameras deployed at more than 3,000 public locations across the city.

The company says the video system will offer advanced video analysis, including facial recognition technology, a “Dial 100” application and drones. The upgradation of the city police department’s existing Suraksha app is also planned, which the company said would help improve incident response rate and citizen engagement.

The company further added that project will be implemented in phases and it will operate and maintain the security infrastructure for five years.

“For more than 30 years, Honeywell has supported India’s growth with differentiated technologies, working to make our cities safer, smarter and more connected,” Ashish Gaikwad, the president of Honeywell India, said.

The organisation insisted that its solutions would provide actionable insights that city authorities and municipalities could use to improve their situational awareness, economic development and quality of life for residents. Honeywell further said that it has delivered similar projects under the Smart Cities Mission across multiple states, including Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

The Safe City project in Bengaluru had hit a snag last year after senior IPS officer and Home Secretary D Roopa levelled serious allegations of several irregularities observed in the bidding process of the project. OpIndia had then reported in detail the controversy surrounding Bengaluru’s Safe City project.

Whistleblower D Roopa finds gross irregularities in Bengaluru’s Safe City project

It all began with a report stating that a woman IPS officer in Karnataka had impersonated the state Home Secretary i.e, D Roopa, to seek classified details regarding the ‘Safe City’ project that is being funded by the centre’s Nirbhaya Fund. A report by Times of India had then claimed that the Bengaluru City police was not happy with the officer’s interference in the project even as the process of selecting the bidder was underway.

The Home Secretary had found serious irregularities in the RFP of the tender document for the ‘Safe City’ project when she studied the Nirbhaya Safe City project file in the Home Department. D Roopa clarified in detail stating that it was she who called the Ernst & Young officials to know the details pertaining to the tender documents, with the intention of ensuring that the tender process did not favour any single bidder.

D Roopa, a whistleblower in the case, found several irregularities in the bidding process and added that she only contacted the consultant firm to seek details on the manner in which tenders are being drafted to allegedly favour one firm.

Following the intervention by the female cop to seek the details of the tender over allegations of irregularities in the project, IGP Hemant Nimbalkar, the husband of Congress MLA Anjali Nimbalkar, who is the Chairman of Nirbhaya Tender Inviting Committee and chairman of Tender Scrutinising Committee, had filed a complaint with the chief secretary stating that the officer unauthorisedly tried to “access classified information before the publication of tender for wrongful gains”.

Irregularities in the tender process

The tender inviting and bidding process of Bengaluru Safe City project envisaged to make the city safer for women and children by installing over 7,500 CCTV cameras, was being allegedly influenced to favour a particular vendor. It is pertinent to note that Hemant Nimbalkar IPS is the Chairman of both Tender Inviting Committee and chairman of Tender Scrutinising Committee of the ‘Safe City’ Project.

The proposal for the ‘Safe City’ Project, was first mooted by the police in 2013. However, it was approved by the Modi government only in 2018. Under the project, the centre will grant 60 per cent of the total funds, while the State government has to spend the remaining 40 per cent. The state government approved the project in October 2019. Since then, the tender process has been cancelled twice and the third one is underway but is at risk of being allegedly influenced to favour a single vendor.

The first RFP that was floated got cancelled in January 2020 over the failure of participants to pass pre-qualification criteria. The process started for the second time in June this year but was cancelled after one of the prospective bidders had pitched products from Chinese firm Huawei. The tender was cancelled in the light of the recent ban imposed on Chinese products by the Centre and the state government after the Galway Valley clash earlier this year.

Interestingly, the Bharat Electronics Limited, one of the bidders in the tender process, was in fact the first one to whistleblow pertaining to the irregularities in the project. After the tender process began for the first time in November 2019, the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) had written a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru highlighting how the Request For Proposal (RFP) for inviting tender in the ‘Safe City’ project was drafted in such a way that it unreasonably favoured one of the two vendors.

In its letter, the Navratna company, which has a rich experience of delivering similar projects, noted to Bengaluru Police Commissioner that the tender inviting process has itself put the other bidders in a disadvantageous position despite having vast experience in the similar projects. The BEL, flagging the irregularities, said that some of the provisions of the tender also violated CVC guidelines.

The tender process was subsequently cancelled and was later floated again under a fresh administration in the police commissionerate.

Kranti Redkar responds to Nawab Malik’s jibe, shares photographs of her and Sameer Wankhede’s Hindu marriage

0

Ever since NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede arrested Bollywood actor Shah Rukh’s son Aryan Khan in the Mumbai cruise drug bust case, NCP leader Nawab Malik has been levelling a slew of allegations against the officer. Today, Kranti Redkar Wankhede took to Twitter to respond to one such accusation meted out against her husband by the Maharashtra minister, questioning his religious identity.

Sharing photographs of their Hindu marriage, Kranti Redkar Wankhede, a Marathi actress by profession and Sameer Wankhede’s wife, confirmed that they had never converted to any other religion and had gotten married under the Hindu Marriage Act, 2017.

She also stated that her husband’s first marriage to Dr Shabana Qureshi took place under the Special Marriages Act, proving that he never misrepresented his identity as a Muslim in order to collect ‘benefits’, as Malik claimed.

Kranti Redkar Wankhede Tweeted: “Me n my Husband Sameer r born Hindus. We hv never converted to any other religion. V respect all religions. Sameer’s father too is hindu married to my Muslim Mom in law who is no more. Sameer’s ex-marriage ws under special marriage act, divorced in 2016.Ours in hindu marriage act 2017”.

NCP leader Nawab Malik claims that Sameer Wankhede is Muslim and his father’s name is ‘Dawood’.

The NCB director’s wife’s response came after Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik, on Monday, claimed that Sameer Wankhede is Muslim and his father’s name is ‘Dawood’. The NCP leader had also released a photo of Wankhede from his first wedding to Dr Shabana Qureshi, insinuating that Sameer Wankhede claimed to be Hindu and forged his caste certificate in order to be selected in the civil services.

Sameer Wankhede responds to Nawab Malik’s jibe questioing his religious identity

Hours after Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik tweeted the birth certificate supposedly of Sameer Wankhede, the latter made a statement confirming that his father is Hindu and his mother is Muslim.

“I would like to express that my father Sh Dnyandev Kachruji Wankhede retired as Senior Police Inspector of State Excise Department, Pune on 30.06.2007. My father is a Hindu and my mother Late Mrs Zaheeda was a Muslim. I belong to a composite, multi-religious and secular family in true Indian tradition and I am proud of my heritage,” Wankhede said in a press release.

Wankhede strongly condemned the tirade against him asserting: “The publishing of my personal documents on Twitter is defamatory in nature and unnecessary invasion of my family privacy. It is intended to malign me, my family, my father and my late mother.”

NCP Minister Nawab Malik targets NCB zonal director

Recently, Nawab Malik of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alleged that Sameer Wankhede was in the Maldives during the pandemic when many Bollywood celebrities were vacationing there as well. He alleged that ‘vasuli’ (extortion) took place in Maldives and Dubai and said he even has photographs to establish the same.

In response, Sameer Wankhede said: “The minister is saying wrong things. It is an absolute lie. I went to the Maldives with my children for a vacation. I took proper permission from the competent authority for the same. I didn’t meet anyone and I don’t want to give any further clarification on these kinds of accusations. In December, I was in Mumbai, at the time when he said I was in Dubai. This can be investigated.”

Wankhede added: “My family is continuously being attacked — from my sister to my father. This is only because I am fighting for the truth and against drug activity. I will take appropriate legal action as the minister has levelled many wrong accusations. I will take legal recourse. We have a justice system, I will take their help after taking permission from my seniors.”

He had confirmed that he will be sending a legal notice to NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik for levelling allegations against him in connection to the Mumbai cruise drugs case.

On October 11, Sameer Wankhede had also lodged a complaint with the Maharashtra police where he said that he was being subjected to illegal surveillance. According to reports, NCB officials had taken this matter to senior officials of the Mumbai police and lodged a complaint about being followed by the Mumbai police officials.

After silently watching Islamists abuse Mohammad Shami for being a ‘bad Muslim’, liberals wake up from their slumber after T20 defeat: Here’s why

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami was at the receiving end of online criticism after India suffered a mortifying defeat at the hands of its arch-rival Pakistan in its first T20 world cup match in Dubai.

India had a rocky start after both its batsmen were dismissed relatively early after Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat. The innings was then anchored by captain Virat Kohli, who along with short cameos by other players, took the team to a respectable score of 151.

Pakistani openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, took Pakistan off to a flying start. As dew began to set in, batting became relatively easy and Indian bowlers struggled holding on to their bowling line, often going awry and allowing Pakistani batsmen to keep the required run-rate under check. As a consequence, Pakistan was able to coast to victory quite comfortably, achieving the target in the 18th over and winning the match by 10 wickets.

Soon after Pakistan defeated India, social media websites were replete with criticism directed against the Indian cricket team for their abject surrender to their long-standing rival. Disappointed with the match result, a raft of social media users hauled the entire team over the coals.

Bowlers became the main target of online attack as they were not able to scalp a single Pakistani wicket. Although all Indian bowlers went for runs, Shami’s bowling figures were the worst among the lot. He conceded 43 runs at a disastrous economy rate of 11.2 in 3.5 overs, and therefore became an object of ire along with medium pacer Bhuwaneshwar Kumar and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, both of whom looked thoroughly out of touch.

Social media users were unsparing in their attack against the Indian cricket team, particularly against the bowlers who could not manage to pick a single wicket. However, this was the kind of opportunity leftists were desperately waiting for to propagate their Muslim victimhood narrative. As dispirited cricket fans took to social media to vent their spleen against the Indian cricket team, left-leaning liberals fell over themselves to cite stray attacks from suspicious accounts against Mohammad Shami to allege that he is targeted for being a Muslim.

Left-leaning liberals use online criticism of Mohammad Shami to keep the Muslim victimhood narrative alive

Many left-leaning intellectuals took to Twitter to claim Mohammad Shami was subjected to Islamophobic hate and had his patriotism questioned after India lost its first T20 world cup match played against Pakistan in Dubai.

Ever since PM Modi was elected to lead the country, the insufferable left-leaning brigade has tried to establish a narrative that Muslims are unsafe in the country. They started off by raising the “rising intolerance” bogey, then they moved to communalise lynching incidents to lend credence to their theory that India has indeed become dangerous for Muslims. Lately, they have used the imprisonment of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in their efforts to vilify India as anti-Muslim. The attempt to draw attention towards criticism faced by Shami for his poor bowling performance is another effort to undermine the Modi government and alleging that hatred against Muslims in India has increased.

While the alleged attack involving Shami’s religion and raising aspersions on his patriotism is unequivocally condemnable, the incident nevertheless brings to fore the appalling hypocrisy exhibited by the left-leaning intellectuals in dealing with similar attacks carried out by Islamic fundamentalists against Muslim celebrities.

The liberals display eager enthusiasm to brand disapproving comments made against Shami by fringe elements as religiously motivated but when Islamists are found abusing and threatening Muslim celebrities for celebrating Hindu festivals, no efforts are undertaken by liberals to call out the hate-mongers.

While liberals clamour over nasty comments made by fringe elements, they turn a deaf ear to Islamists’ attacks against Muslim celebrities

For instance, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been at the receiving end of criticism from Islamists for the last four years for celebrating Ganesha Chaturthi and installing a Ganesha idol in his home. Shah Rukh Khan was also called a “False Muslim” for sporting a Tilak and he often faces backlash for posting on Hindu Festivals.

But, none of those who are crying hoarse today over allegedly bigoted comments made against Shami by random social media accounts—and who had also recently asserted that SRK’s son is targeted for his Muslim identity—did not condemn the attacks carried out by Islamists against SRK.

In fact, Mohammad Shami had himself endured an egregious online attack from Islamists, who had slammed him and his daughter for celebrating her birthday. Back in January 2020, Shami was trolled by Islamists on Instagram after he posted a picture of his daughter standing at a Hindu puja ceremony with a caption, “Looking so sweet beta love you so much god bless you beta see you soon”.

However, none of the intellectuals, who are now chomping at the bit of painting criticism directed at Shami as an attack motivated by his Muslim identity, did not even acknowledge the Islamist attack the fast bowler was subjected to, let alone denounce it. He was left to fend for himself as liberals maintained a stoic silence over the online harassment faced by the fast bowler for simply sharing his daughter’s picture at a Hindu puja.

Similarly, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif also came under the firing line of Islamists online after he posted a picture of himself practicing Yoga on the International Yoga Day last June. A bevy of Islamists had descended on his timeline, criticising him for warming up to Yoga and betraying his Islamic faith. Many of them suggested him that yoga is considered as ‘haram’ under Islam and that he should instead read namaz five times a day.

Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan are not the only Muslim celebrities who have been attacked by Islamists. Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan was trolled for lighting a Diya in April 2020. Irfan Pathan was trolled for sharing a photo on Rakshabandhan, stating it is against Islam. The Islamists questioned Sara Ali Khan for wishing people on Ganesh Chaturthi. Journalist Rubika Liyakat has faced attacks on social media countless times for her views. A Muslim Yoga teacher Rafia Naz has faced abused from her own community for teaching Yoga.

However, on the predictable lines, left-leaning liberals, who show an unmatched alacrity in dishing out labels of Islamophobia and brand criticism directed at Muslims as religiously motivated, find no merit in calling out Islamists who relentlessly hound Muslim celebrities for celebrating and indulging in non-Muslim festivities.

Instead of fussing over the alleged attack against Shami, the liberals should put their money, at least for once, where their mouth is, and ignore comments made by lesser known troll accounts, just like they ignore vicious and abusive attacks made by Islamists against Muslim celebrities.

Liberals urge Indians to disregard Pakistani interior minister’s comments while obsessing over obscure troll accounts

Earlier today, a Pakistani minister uploaded a video saying victory of Pakistan against India is akin to victory of Islam. When social media users highlighted how Pakistan is inherently a bigoted nation and how all efforts to normalise relationship with them are futile, left intellectuals, including Shekhar Gupta, had urged people to ignore such comments and not take Pakistan’s interior minister seriously.

Source: Twitter

While they ask their followers to not take an elected Pakistani official’s words seriously, they don’t mind drumming up bigoted comments made by unknown social media users against Shami and citing them to declare India as anti-Muslim.

Perhaps, this skulduggery of highlighting nasty comments made by obscure social media accounts and asking Indians to ignore vitriolic remarks made by a senior Pakistani minister, is to shield the Islamists in India who bursted crackers and broke into celebrations after Pakistan defeated India last night. Already, liberals have targeted Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir for condemning those celebrating Pakistan’s victory against India in T20 World Cup.

There have been countless incidents in the past when Pakistan’s victory over India in a cricket match has been marked with celebrations in some pockets across the country. By pointing out the alleged attacks against Mohammad Shami and thereby guilt-tripping Hindus, the liberals are probably trying to shift the focus away from the unpleasant reality of how a section of people residing in India bask in the celebrations of its defeat at the hands of its rival, Pakistan.

Lady who opened first-ever non-Halal restaurant in Kerala assaulted, was being threatened by Islamists against opening second branch

Smt Thushara, who had on January 15, 2021, opened an exclusive non-halal restaurant in the Ernakulam district in Kerala has been brutally assaulted on Monday, October 25. The woman, herself, went live on Facebook from the hospital bed to inform about the attack on her.

Smt Thushara served only non-halal food at her restaurant called Nandus Kitchen in Palarivattom. During the inauguration of her eatery, she had placed a banner outside her eatery which reads “No Halal, Halal Bakshanam Nishidham” (Halal food is banned here). She had then revealed that since inception, many Muslims have taken offence to her idea of running a non-halal restaurant.

Smt Tushara’s daughter also shared a video of her mother being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and shared how she was mercilessly assaulted by some miscreants.

According to a local news report, the lady who was in the process of opening her restaurant’s second branch today was assaulted near the eatery in Techo Park.

The report suggests that Thushara was receiving threats from Islamists for opening the second branch of her non-halal restaurant, just like she did when her first branch opened, for the past one week. The Islamists were warning her against placing a non-Halal board in front of her restaurant.

Smt Tushara also claimed in a Facebook live that the incident was motivated by her restaurant’s decision to serve non-halal food and to place a poster about the same outside her establishment.

Condemning the attack, K Surendran, the state president of BJP Kerala Tweeted: “Strongly condemn the attack against Smt.Thushara Ajith. A group of Muslim fanatics brutally attacked the woman entrepreneur due to non-compliance of Halal in her hotel. What happened in Kakkanad is nothing less than Talibanism. I urge the people of Kerala to reject Halal Invasion”.

Another Twitter user going by the handle @lotophagus wrote: “Thushara Ajith started the first ever Non-halal hotel in Kerala last year. Today she’s in the hospital, beaten up by Jihadis for trying to open a 2nd branch”. According to the Twitter user, Kerala police are attempting to apprehend Smt Tushara after restaurant employees retaliated in self-defence against the miscreants.

“She was told that she must not keep a no-halal board or serve pork, as Kakkanad is “their” area. The police is blaming her & staff for creating unrest by insisting on such a “sensitive” thing”, @lotophagus wrote in her subsequent Tweet.

Controversies over Halal meat in Kerala

The state of Kerala has been marred by a controversy over halal meat. In January this year, a bakery in Kerala, called ‘Mody’, was allegedly forced to remove the ‘Halal’ sticker notifying the availability of Halal food following opposition by Hindu Aikya Vedi activists. As per reports, the matter began after the organisation’s Parakkadavu unit president Arun Aravind and a few others visited the bakery for food and insisted on non-halal food. However, they were informed that only halal food was served.

The notice went viral on social media following which the police stepped in and arrested Aravind and three others. A case has been registered against the four and they were later released on bail.

Ahead of Christmas last year, Christians in Kerala called for a boycott of halal meat. Kochi based Christian group Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) urged Christians not to buy Halal food anymore. Hindu groups also extended their support for the call to boycott stating that they are forced to sell Halal meat in the state.

‘Previous govt more concerned about filling their family lockers’: PM Modi inaugurates nine medical colleges in UP

PM Narendra Modi on Monday, October 25, inaugurated nine medical colleges from Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh worth Rs 2,329 crore. These colleges are in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur.

Addressing a rally in Siddharthnagar on the occasion, PM Modi cited the contributions of ‘Madhav Babu’, Tripathi, after whom the new medical college in Siddharthnagar has been named. He said that naming the college after Madhav Babu is a true tribute to his service. He said his name itself would serve as an inspiration to the innumerable aspirants who would work selflessly and tirelessly in the future to provide the best public services to the poor and the destitute.

Previous government was more concerned about “filling their family lockers”: PM Modi in Uttar Pradesh

Modi said that previous governments have tarnished Purvanchal’s image. He claimed it was slandered as a result of the tragic deaths due to ‘dimagi’ fever (meningitis). “The same region will now infuse fresh hopes… people of UP can’t forget how Yogi ji, despite not being a CM then, had highlighted UP’s terrible medical system in Parliament,” he remarked.

PM Modi said that today marks a big day not only for east Uttar Pradesh and the entire state. “Yeh Purvanchal ki dharti desh bhar ko doctors dene wali hain” (This land of Purvanchal will be giving doctors to the entire country), said PM Modi adding that the day marks a double dose of healthcare infrastructure. More than 2,500 new medical beds, 5,000 new doctors and paramedics and innumerable job opportunities will now be available. “Dream of pursuing medical education will now be a reality for youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

“Earlier governments left the people of ‘Purvanchal’ to suffer from diseases but now it will become a medical hub of northern India,” Modi added.

Modi asked the public if the state has ever seen such progress in the health sector as it had in recent years, with the development of so many medical colleges. He said that no such projects were ever pursued since the previous administration was more concerned about “filling their family lockers” and earning for themselves.

“But our priority is to save the poor’s money and provide them with facilities,” Modi added.

‘Cycle’ of corruption thrived in Uttar Pradesh during erstwhile governments, PM Modi takes a dig at the previous Samajwadi Govt

Slamming the erstwhile government in Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister said, “For years and years, either the building was not built, if there was a building, then there were no machines, if both were done, there would be no doctors and other staff.”

Without taking any names, PM Modi took a dig at Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party saying that that the ‘cycle’ of corruption thrived in Uttar Pradesh during the erstwhile governments. It may be noted that bicycle is the election symbol of the Samajwadi Party.

PM Modi hails Yogi Adityanath’s governance

He went on to say that there were only 1900 medical seats available in Uttar Pradesh government medical colleges before 2017, but that number has more than doubled in the last four years.

“Today, the people of UP are also seeing that under Yogi’s rule, the spread of encephalitis has been stopped and thousands of children’s lives have been saved,” PM Modi added, highlighting the UP CM’s achievements in the development of the state.

He claimed that the UP administration has been successful in meeting people’s demands because they are sensitive to the needs of the vulnerable and have compassion in their hearts to understand the suffering of the impoverished.

For a long time after independence, not much attention was paid to health and healthcare facilities, Modi takes a jibe at the Congress Govt

PM Modi recalled how after independence, there were no medical facilities in small towns, zilas, districts and villages. “For a long time after independence, not much attention was paid to health and healthcare facilities. People who governed the nation for a long time, kept the healthcare system devoid of facilities instead of facilitating its development,” Modi said, taking a jibe at the Congress Government for ignoring India’s healthcare system for the longest time ever.

“I have suffered and personally experienced this pain,” said Modi, recalling how in those days, the poor farmers and the Dalits, in various villages had to run helter-skelter to arrange medical treatment for their loved ones. When the impoverished turned to the previous administration for basic medical care, they were met with disappointment.

“My poor brothers and sisters began to believe that this was their fate until I was given the opportunity to lead the country in 2014. My government has worked day-in, day-out to improve the country’s healthcare system”, said Modi.

Over the years, our ‘Double Engine’ government has made a conscientious effort to give better health services to all of the underprivileged. We have developed a new health strategy across the country to ensure that the poor have access to affordable treatment and are protected against disease.

Prime Minister Modi informed, “Before 2014, the medical seats in our country were less than 90 thousand. In the last 7 years, 60 thousand new medical seats have been added”.

“However, one thing that dampens me is that the previous administration never supported us up in our development efforts. They’ve always been involved in petty politics. They tried to impede all development projects initiated in Uttar Pradesh.”

In Uttar Pradesh, 90 lakh patients have got free treatment under Ayushman Bharat. Due to Ayushman Bharat, about one thousand crore rupees of the poor have been saved from being spent in treatment, Modi said.

The government which was here before the Yogi government had built only 6 medical colleges in UP during its tenure, however, ever since Yogi Adityanath has been at the helm, 16 medical colleges have been started and 30 new medical colleges are being fast-tracked, said Modi.

It may be noted that of the 9 medical colleges inaugurated today, eight have been sanctioned under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for ‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with district/ referral hospitals’ and one at Jaunpur has been made functional by the state government through its own resources.

Besides, PM Modi will also inaugurate various development projects worth more than ₹5200 crores for Varanasi today.

CM Himanta takes note of Assam Pollution Control Board’s blanket ban on firecrackers, says it is under review afresh

On October 25, Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took note of the recent order of the Assam Pollution Control Board in which it has imposed a blanket ban on firecrackers and allowed only green fireworks, that too for two hours, on Diwali.

In a Tweet, Sarma said, “Assam Pollution Control Board has, reportedly, suo motu, without any consultation with Govt, issued an order banning the sale of firecrackers & other restrictions. We’ve taken note of this. The entire issue is being reviewed afresh, holistically, keeping people’s sentiments in mind.”

The ban imposed by Assam Pollution Control Board

The Pollution Control Board of Assam had passed an order on October 22 in which it has imposed a blanket ban on firecrackers on Diwali. Notably, as per the orders, only green fireworks were allowed to be burst, that too in the time frame of two hours set by the board. As per the orders, the festivities could run between 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali. Similarly, for Chatt Puja, firecrackers were allowed between 6 AM to 8 AM and for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM.

The board used the powers conferred under Section 31(A) of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, along with Rule 35 of Air (Prevention & Control Pollution) Assam Rule, 1991. The order stated, “Keeping in view the need of public interest to curb high air pollution, Pollution Control Board, Assam directs that a complete ban has been imposed on bursting and sale of all kinds of firecrackers except green crackers in the state till further orders.”

The order further read, “Only green crackers can be sold, and bursting is allowed only for two hours during Diwali from 8 PM to 10 PM, during Chhath Puja from 6 AM to 8 AM and during Christmas and New Year’s Eve from 11:55 PM to 12:30 PM. Other than the above-specified festivals, prior permission of the concerned Deputy Commissioners of the districts will be required for the use of only green crackers for a limited period (not more than two hours) in the state of Assam.” As per the orders, if anyone wants to burst firecrackers other than the specified festivals, they would have to take permission from the concerned Deputy Commissioners of the districts.

The continuous attack on Hindu festival Diwali

For the last few years, governments, pollution boards, NGT and judiciary have taken extreme steps against Diwali on the pretext that fireworks cause maximum pollution on the day of the festival and allegedly cause health problems. Several so-called celebrities and intellectuals have asked their followers not to burst fireworks.

However, according to studies, fireworks are not the main cause of pollution, especially in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and other states. Studies blamed construction dust, vehicular pollution and stubble burning as top causes of pollution. Interestingly, one of the studies that was conducted by IIT refusing to blame fireworks for pollution in Delhi was categorically refused by the Supreme Court even though the study was conducted by the experts.
