Thousands of members of Hindu outfits back in India take to the streets to protest against brutality against Hindus by Bangladeshi Islamists: Details

More than thousands of members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits have taken to the streets in Assam to protest against the ongoing attack on the temple and the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

They set fire to Bangladesh’s national flag, attempted to cross the international border between India and Bangladesh, and called for a boycott of Bangladeshi goods.

Videos have emerged on social media, where a member of the Bajrang Dal is seen expressing his angst at the repeated attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh as he urges Hindus in Karimganj to completely boycott Bangladeshi products as a mark of protest.

He says that as revenge for the desecration of temples and Maa Durga and the atrocities being inflicted on Hindu mothers and daughters in the country, I urge people, especially the followers of Sanatan Dharma to boycott products made by Bangladeshi companies in India.

He urged Hindus in Bangladesh to rise against the repeated cruelty carried out against the minority Hindus in the nation. He threatened that the members of Hindu outfits would cross over to Bangladesh and protest there if PM Sheikh Hasina does not take action against those involved in the vandalism of Durga Puja pandals.

The Bajrang Dal member also condemned the incident where radical Islamists brutally raped an entire Hindu family including a 10-year-old girl in Hajiganj Upazila in Chandpur district in the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh. A secular blogger Azam Khan had narrated the indent in one of his Facebook post yesterday. OpIndia had reported how community leaders had claimed that no such incident has taken place. Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harunur Rashid also said that no one had filed any complaint of rape and that the news of rape is a rumour.

In another video, the people of Chittagong are seen hitting the streets in protest against Islamist attacks on Hindus and their places of worship in Bangladesh.

Besides, hundreds of protesters in the Karimganj district, where the border is divided by the Kushiyara river, attempted to cross it and go to Bangladesh. Meanwhile, in Hailakandi, members of the Hindu outfits burnt Bangladesh’s national flag as a mark of the protest.

The protesters sent memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that all trade with Bangladesh be halted. They further said that Bangladesh is attempting to drive Hindus out of the country and that this act of violence is part of that conspiracy.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, former MLA from Karimganj district and senior BJP leader Ranjan Das said: “If India cuts all the trade relations with Bangladesh, like we did it with Pakistan in past, the country will be bound to starve. Also, India is the largest consumer of Bangladesh’s food products. We are going to boycott each and every food product coming from Bangladesh. We have sent a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi and requested him to give a strong message to Bangladesh so that the Hindus living there don’t face harassment anymore.”

Protesters protest against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh outside the Bangladesh deputy high commission’s office in Kolkata

Yesterday too, many protestors had protested outside the Bangladesh deputy high commission’s office in Kolkata to protest against the attack on the Bangladesh unit of the ISKCON temple and the other Hindu temples in Bangladesh, amidst the ongoing violence against the Hindu community unleashed by radical Islamists in the country.

Radharaman Das, vice-president of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) unit in Kolkata, led a protest outside the Bangladesh deputy high commission’s office in Kolkata on Sunday evening. Citizens also took part in it.

“The violence is continuing for nine days but the international community is not saying a word. Two hundred miscreants stormed into our temple in Noakhali on Friday and vandalized all the idols. Two of our monks were killed. Why are international human rights groups and United Nations silent? We will organise protests across the globe” Das said.

China’s real Squid Game: Beijing operates forced organ harvesting from political prisoners and dissidents, says UN report

0

Netflix’s recently hit a jackpot with the release of Squid Game, a Korean thriller series, which tells the story of debt-ridden people competing for a huge cash prize in a deadly series of children’s games.

The series had the viewers captivated with its dystopian storyline that pits players against each other in the quest to emerge victorious in deadly contests to win a cash prize. The show has been streamed by 111 million users in its first 28 days, making it Netflix’s biggest ever series launch.

In a side plot to the story, human beings are sold off for their organs. While the Korean drama is obviously fictitious and imaginary, this aspect of the series bears stark resemblance to what’s happening to dissidents and protesters in China.

100,000 dissidents and political prisoners have their organs harvested every year in China in a “kill to order” market

As per Human Rights groups, the Chinese government is presiding over an organ-trafficking network that harvests 100,000 dissidents and political prisoners organs every year.

The UN Human Rights office says the most common organs removed from the prisoners are reportedly hearts, kidneys, livers and cornea. In June this year, the independent experts commissioned by the UN to investigate claims of state-sponsored organ harvesting in China said Beijing was ‘targeting specific ethnic, linguistic or religious minorities held in detention’ and raking in a billion dollars a year.

This assertion was furiously denied by China, rubbishing the claims that they operated a state-sponsored organ harvesting program to traffic organs of political prisoners and dissidents held in various internment camps interspersed across the length and breadth of the country.

Even though China denies the existence of any state-sponsored program for organ harvesting, 9 UN Special Rapporteurs from the Human Rights Council spent more than 12 months unearthing chilling witness testimonies that shed light on the appalling ‘kill to order’ market that is reinvigorated by China’s organ harvesting program.

The examiners claimed that they had received “credible information that detainees from ethnic, linguistic or religious minorities may be forcibly subjected to blood tests and organ examinations such as ultrasound and x-rays, without their informed consent; while other prisoners are not required to undergo such examinations.”

They further added: “The results of the examinations are reportedly registered in a database of living organ sources that facilitates organ allocation.”

Uyghurs, Tibetans, Muslims and Christians among those who are forcibly enlisted by China for organ harvesting

Among the minorities targeted by China’s “organ harvesting” program include Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghurs, Tibetans, Muslims and Christians lodged in detention centres.

The findings of the UN Human Rights office also points to the grim reality that health care workers, including doctors, surgeons, nurses and others, who are sworn to protect patients’ lives, are helping Beijing in their organ harvesting program.

“Some prisoners receive death threats and threats of their organ being harvested by the police if they do not comply with the law enforcement agencies or refuse to give up their beliefs,” the statement said.

In China, recipients of organs can book surgeries at the time and place of their choice. This is not possible elsewhere as surgeons cannot predict when an organ required for a particular recipient will be made available or when a person who has elected to be an organ donor will die.

Other countries follow the ‘ethical’ process approved by the WHO, where the deceased’s organs are first matched with the most critical patient on the transplant list and who is most likely to make it in time to the hospital for the surgery. For many ailing people, it takes years to receive organs that match with their requirements.

However, in China, there’s no such process where the recipients are put on a transplant list and asked to wait for their turn. Instead, they have the authority to book their surgeries as per their convenience, highlighting the implicit role of China’s government in supporting and allowing organ harvesting.

The undercover phone calls made to Chinese hospitals as part of the independent hearings in 2019 demonstrate how patients can choose to get their surgeries done under the ‘kill to order’ system. In one instance, a doctor corroborates the existence of ‘abundance of organs’ which arrive ‘every month’ in his hospital.

China’s organ transplant numbers misleading: Susie Hughes

As per Susie Hughes, the Executive Director of The International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China, Beijing’s claim that they are performing 10,000 to 20,000 do not add up. She says a recent statistical analysis of China’s organ transplant system shows their numbers are misleading.

“When you examine hospital revenues, bed utilisation rates and the number of surgical teams from the official Chinese data… the figure is more likely to be between 60,000 to 100,000 transplants per year,” Hughes was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

The Chinese Tribunal found that Uyghur Muslim minorities detained in various detention camps were used as ‘organ bank’ or emergency backstop for critical Chinese coronavirus patients.

Jinato Liu, one of the Falun Gong practitioners who was imprisoned for over two years gave a bone-chilling testimony to the expert panel. He said he was locked into a cell with eight drug addicts who were commonly induced to abuse Falun Gong practitioners. The guards knew everything what was happening inside, underscoring the state involvement in torturing people before their organs were eventually harvested.

“Don’t go against the Communist Party. Don’t resist them. If you do, when the time comes, you won’t even know how you have died,” said Liu while describing about the advice he got from a prison doctor sympathetic to him.

China denies the organ harvesting claims, says witness testimonies are from actors

Instead of acknowledging the scourge, Beijing has doubled down on the rhetoric, denying the existence of rampant forced human organ harvesting practiced in China and calling the UN’s statement ‘fabricated’ and ‘defamatory’.

On top of it, China has rejected the heart-rending witness testimonies as those coming from ‘actors’ paid to malign the country.

Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim, 4 others sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002 murder case

0

Dera Sacha Sauda’s Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others in murder case of sect follower Ranjit Singh were awarded life imprisonment by a special CBI court in Panchkula on Monday. Besides, a fine of Rs 31 lakh has been levied on Ram Rahim and Rs 50,000 on the remaining accused.

The special court had convicted them earlier this month in the murder case of Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The other convicted and sentenced to life in jail for the crime are Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Sabdil. One accused in the murder case had passed away a year ago.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim is currently lodged in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. He was earlier convicted for raping two of his disciples.

Dera’s manager Ranjit Singh was shot dead in 2002 for his suspected role in the circulation of an anonymous letter, which revealed details of how women were being sexually exploited by the dera head.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) held Gurmeet Ram Rahim the principle accused in the case. The agency, in its charge sheet, mentioned that the Dera chief suspected that Ranjit Singh was behind the circulation of the anonymous letter and therefore, hatched a conspiracy to kill him.

Ram Rahim pleaded clemency, pointing out the welfare work done by the dera. However, the CBI objected to it and demanded the “maximum punishment” under IPC Section 302.

“The counsel of some other convicts sought time stating that they are not ready with arguments as they have to go through the judgments cited by the prosecution,” CBI special prosecutor H P S Verma told reporters. On their request, he said, the court deferred the sentencing till today (October 18).

However, the court did not heed Ram Rahim’s leniency plea and awarded him life imprisonment for his role in the murder of Ranjit Singh.

This is not the first conviction and jail sentence for Ram Rahim. In 2019, he convicted and awarded life imprisonment for the murder of a journalist, Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

FabIndia tries damage control over Jashn-e-Riwaaz collection, attempts to remove it after backlash but traces still remain: Details

0

On October 18, a massive social media campaign against clothing brand Fabindia was launched by netizens after its Diwali campaign Jashn-e-Riwaaz went viral on social media platforms. National President BJP Yuva Morcha, Tejaswi Surya, also slammed the brand in a tweet where he wrote, “Deepavali is not Jash-e-Riwaaz. This deliberate attempt of abrahamisation of Hindu festivals, depicting models without traditional Hindu attires, must be called out. And brands like Fab India must face economic costs for such deliberate misadventures.”

After the backlash, the brand silently removed all campaign traces from its account on Twitter.

However, by the time we published the report, the campaign was still live on their website, Facebook handle, and its UAE handle on Instagram.

From FabIndia’s Instagram account, the campaign was missing, but the videos and photos related to the campaign were there without mentioning the campaign.

Though the post description does not name the campaign, the video’s last slide does.

While FabIndia seems to have removed hashtag Jashneriwaaz from the Instagram posts, their creative partners are still using it with a slightly different spelling.

Interestingly, FabIndia has not mentioned the word Diwali or Deepawali even once since November 2020.

In the ‘Jashn-e-Riwaaz’ campaign, the word Diwali was entirely skipped by the brand. The basic idea, it seems, behind the campaign was to make the festival of Hindus a secular one by removing its original name completely.

Jashn-e-Riwaaz by Fabindia is not the first attack on Diwali

Another notable point is that it is not the first time someone has tried to skip the name Diwali while mentioning the festivities. In 2018, The Wire called the festival “Jashn-e-Chiraghan”, which was carried forward even in 2019 (by Outlook) and in 2020 by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor who called it “Jashn-e-Chiraagh” in a post.

Continuous attacks over fireworks and other traditions associated with Diwali have been happening from all directions, including intellectuals, so-called environmentalists, government and judiciary. From calling the festival ‘reason of air pollution’ to denying its due credit for reviving the economy, Diwali has been one of the most favourite targets to demean Sanatan Dharma.

Bangladesh: Hindu victims of Islamist arson attack in Rangpur say that the horror reminded them of 1971 genocide by the Pakistani army

A day after radical Islamists burnt down 20 Hindu homes in Pirganj Upazila in the Rangpur Division of Bangladesh, the victims recalled the horrors of the 1971 Operation Searchlight on Monday (October 18), reported Dhaka Tribune.

Niranjana Mahanta, one of the victims of the arson attack and a resident of Majhipara Jelepalli, recalled how she escaped the onslaught of radical Islamists. She said, “I didn’t witness the Liberation War but what I saw Sunday night reminded me of the stories I had heard about the Pak army’s brutality in 1971. “

Furthermore, she recounted, “As the attackers unleashed hell on our village while screaming terrifying chants, I took my children and ran out of my burning home to hide in a paddy field. There I lay all night, pressing down my hand over my children’s mouths so their cries aren’t heard by the savage raiders.” According to Mahanta, her house was reduced to ashes when she returned home on Monday morning.

Another victim, Swarna Rani, lamented how she lost rice, furniture and money worth 60,000 Tk. “Now, we have no roof over our heads and no money to get back on our feet,” she told Dhaka Tribune. Ram Barman narrated how the radical Islamists set fire to 2 of the temples in the village. Sumit, a rickshaw driver by occupation, had lost his source of livelihood in the dastardly attack. The victims recounted that the cops were nowhere to be seen at the time of the attack, allowing the perpetrators to continue their carnage.

A total of 30 people were injured in the arson attack. The cops have detained 42 people in connection to the crime. A large consignment of police has been deployed to control the law and order situation in the area. Md Kamruzzaman, Assistant Superintendent of Police, remarked, “Police reached the spot soon after tensions mounted and stood guard around the home of the young man. We could save that house but attackers torched some 15 to 20 nearby houses.” DIG (Rangpur) Devdas Bhattacharya assured that all accused will be brought to justice.

Remembering Operation Searchlight and atrocities committed by Pakistani Army

The story began in 1970. In the General elections held on December 7 that year, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of the Awami League secured a huge majority (167 seats) in the provincial legislature in East Pakistan. With constant interference in the affairs of East Pakistan by its Islamic counterpart, Rahman had begun demanding greater regional autonomy.

This was just within 13 years of the Partition of the Indian subcontinent when Muslims sought a separate country of their own. Although united by the common Faith, the resentment between the West and East Pakistan towards each other continued to grow. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), who won the most seats in West Pakistan in the 1970 elections, as opposed to the demands of Rahman. He had threatened to boycott the Assembly and sought the dissolution of the provincial legislature in East Pakistan if PPP was not included in the government.

Miffed over the denial of power and autonomy to East Pakistan, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called the civil disobedience movement, on March 7, 1971. Bhutto feared civil war and President Yahya Khan, therefore, declared martial law and ordered the arrest of Rahman and other leaders. In order to contain the civil and political unrest, the Pakistan army launched Operation Searchlight on March 26, 1971. Rahman, disillusioned by the high-handedness of West Pakistan, had already called for independence from West Pakistan.

The Pakistani soldiers launched their attack on the Bengali population in Rajararbagh and Peelkhana area. They put Mujibur Rahman behind bars and ambushed the Dhaka university, resulting in the death of 9 teachers and 200 students in Iqbal Hal. Similarly, the Pakistan army continued with its barbaric attacks on civilians in Old Dhaka, Tejgaon, Indira Road, Mirpur, Kalabagan and other places.

On the same night, several people in Chittagong were shot dead by the army personnel. National newspapers, including, Daily Ittefaq, the Daily Sangbad were shut down and their offices were set ablaze, resulting in the death of several media personnel. Mass graves were dug out and hastily bulldozed. An estimated 700 people were burnt to death in Dhaka. Similarly, they set fire to the houses of slum dwellers, fired bullets at those running away to save their lives, razed a Kali Mandir and also destroyed the Central Shaheed Minar.

It is believed that around 10,000-35,000 Bengalis were killed by the Pakistan army under Operation Searchlight while the death toll increased to over 3 lacs in the months to follow. “Thanks to God that Pakistan could have been saved,” Bhutto had famously remarked. The genocide against the Bengali population intensified. In the following months, around 4 lac Bengali women were raped by the Pakistan army while a majority of the victims being Hindus.

The situation worsened, forcing neighbouring India to step in to prevent the further continuation of genocide. In 14 days, Pakistani forces under AK Niazi signed the Instrument of surrender and thus a new nation of Bangladesh was born. While Bangladesh has tried and hanged several war criminals, Pakistan continues to dispute the 1971 genocide, far from being apologetic about the heinous crimes.

‘He was the biggest believer of Guru Gobind Singh,’ laments Lakhbir Singh’s wife, Nihangs blame govt while remaining unapologetic

0

The dastardly videos of the lynching of Lakhbir Singh (a Dalit Sikh) by Nihangs for allegedly desecrating their holy book ‘Sarbloh Granth’ sent chills and gave rise to huge outrage with many comparing his death to the Taliban style execution.

Videos after videos and images after images floated on every social media platform showing Lakhbir in his final moments writhing in pain as Nihangs chopped his wrist and thrashed him brutally before hanging him upside down on a pole.

While social media users found it difficult to watch the heart wrenching videos, Lakhbir’s family is unsurprisingly in a state of shock, haunted by the videos of their son begging for his life.

‘He was the biggest believer of Babaji

Lakhbir’s inconsolable wife Jaspreet Kaur (35) said while speaking to ThePrint, “Lakhbir can never desecrate the Sarbloh Granth, he was the biggest believer of Guru Gobind Singh.”

Lakhbir is survived by his estranged wife and three daughters. Though the two separated due to Lakhbir’s bad habits, Kaur vouched for her deceased husband and said she has no doubt Lakhbir was innocent.

“I can say this with absolute surety that he could never insult our Granth,” she repeated.

‘No Granth directs anybody to kill a person

Unable to come to terms with Lakhbir’s lynching, Harnaam Singh (75) who adopted him as a child after he lost his parents demanded proof of allegations smeared on his son.

“My son was the biggest believer of Guruji. I want to ask the Nihangs… they could make a video of them killing my son, but the allegations on which he was killed, do they have any proof of that?” he questioned.

“What proof did they have that Lakhbir desecrated the Sarbloh Granth? You want me to believe that there were CCTV cameras at Singhu, thousands of people with phones, such a big incident happened, and nobody made any video of Lakhbir running with the Granth?” Harnaam added further.

Saying that such merciless killing can never be justified, Harnaam said, “Even if I agree with the allegations levelled at him, it wasn’t justified to kill him. We also follow the same Granth and no Granth directs anybody to kill a person. He’s begging for his life in the horrific video, but still the Nihangs let him bleed to death.”

The old Sikh reiterated that Lakhbir could never take such a step and opined that even if he did, he should have been handed over to the police. “Even an animal wouldn’t do this (killing),” cried an old Harnaam.

‘I suspect foul play

Harnaam further revealed that Lakhbir had never traveled alone and said that he had never been to Delhi. “How could he reach Delhi with Rs 50-100 in his pocket?” said Harnaam revealing that he had borrowed Rs 100 from his sister 4-5 days ago.

Lakhbir’s wife informed that he used to work for some ship companies in Mumbai and Kolkata and that he was always accompanied by at least 20-30 other boys.

“I suspect foul play in this entire incident. We demand a thorough investigation into what actually happened with my son,” demanded Harnaam.

‘We have no remorse for what happened. We are not sorry

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee leader Tarlochan Singh in a shocking statement claimed that they are not sorry for what happened with Lakhbir Singh.

When asked if lynching someone for sacrilege was justified, Tarlochan said, “Yes, absolutely. For us, our religion, our faith, our Granth holds more value than a person’s life.”

“We have no remorse for what happened. We will do it again if anyone touches our Granth, doesn’t matter if he is a government agent or some minister himself,” added the committee leader.

‘He was a government stooge

The Nihangs and other Sikh committees after killing one of their own have pinned the blame on the central government.

“Lakhbir was made a scapegoat by the government to defame Sikhs and finish the farmers’ protest,” believes Tarlochan. “The central government tried their best to defame and end the farmers’ protest but they couldn’t do it. So, now they found this way,” he alleged.

Tarlochan said that Lakhbir’s lynching was to give a loud and clear message to the government. “We have taken enough injustice but never said a word. They called us terrorists, Khalistanis but we didn’t attack them. Don’t misunderstand our strength as our weakness. We can kill for our faith,” claimed the Sikh.

Ironically, the Nihangs and its supporters are attacking the center repeatedly while citing examples of sacrilege that occurred at the time of the Badal government.

“This was not the first incident of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib. People who insulted our Granth before were given protection by the Badal government,” said Tarlochan declaring that they will no longer wait for the police or government to take action against the perpetrators.

“We could have let Lakhbir go yesterday, but we knew that he wouldn’t have gotten any punishment. We have lost trust and that’s why our men had to take law into their own hands and do justice. We are not hiding that we killed him, but we are not sorry,” concluded Tarlochan.

Dalit organizations demand probe

Over 21 Dalit organizations from across the country have approached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and sought an extensive probe into the murder of Lakhbir Singh at the Singhu border by Nihang Sikhs.

As per the report published in Economic Times, the organizations have asked for a time-bound investigation into the matter. Furthermore, they have asked for punishment for all those who are involved in the murder of the Dalit Sikh at farmer protests’ site.

Vijay Sampla, chairperson, NCSC, condemned sacrilege or disrespect of the text and said it is a severe offence among Sikhs, but “no one has the right to take the law into his hands”. He added, “We’ve already sent a notice to DGP Haryana and the chief secretary to take strict action on it and asked for a return report via fax.”

China denies developing nuclear-capable hypersonic missile, says it was a routine test for spacecraft tech

0

On October 16, Financial Times published an exclusive article saying that China has tested an advanced missile system with the potential of bypassing any US anti-ballistic defence systems or avoiding warning radars meant for intercontinental missiles.

Journalists Demetri Sevastopulo and Kathrin Hille of the Financial Times had first reported about the missile test in August. The test saw a space rocket with a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV), efficient enough to carry nuclear warheads, travel across the globe and hit the earth falling just short of its target.

Possible development of a FOBS system or fractional orbital bombardment system by China is assumed to be in the process, the FT report stated. A FOBS system take off is similar to the launch of a traditional intercontinental ballistic missile with a different trajectory.

A normal intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) escapes the atmosphere for a short period as it follows the path toward its target at the North Pole, on the other hand, a missile based on the FOBS system would remain in its orbit according to its trajectory for a sufficient amount of time and thus have the potential to move towards a target from different directions. In short, the FOBS system is capable of creating complex paths and trajectories that would make it impossible for any existing anti-ballistic defense system to track.

Launching weapons from space

Surprisingly, US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall had already warned in September that China might be developing a FOBS. Kendall said,“There is a potential for weapons to be launched into space, then go through this old concept from the Cold War called the fractional orbital bombardment system, which is a system that basically goes into orbit and then de-orbits to a target,”

The testing of advanced missile system using hypersonic gliding vehicle that the Chinese space program is being controlled by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), as per reports. According to reports, the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics is leading the project, which is a subdivision of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

Many experts now say that the development of the FOBS will trigger a whole new arms race in the world.

May render US missile defence systems obsolete

The Soviet Union had deployed a small number of these fractional, orbital missiles back in 1969. Now sources claim that the advancement of the American missile-defence system is the motivation behind the FOBS deployment. The US administration is known for its work on surface-launched missile systems that could deter ICBMs. President Richard Nixon gave his approval for the deployment of the Safeguard ABM system in 1969.

China had experimented with the FOBS idea in the 1960s. A three-stage DF-6 missile that was supposed to be functional by 1974 was cancelled in 1973 due to technical problems.

It is important to note that one of the principles in the Outer Space Treaty states that “states shall not place nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies or station them in outer space in any other manner”. Thus it would appear that the Chinese attempt to put missiles in the outer space orbit would be in violation of the treaty.

A senior defence analyst at the RAND Corporation, Derek J. Grossman tweeted, “China may have just achieved its own Sputnik moment against the US military. Hard to exaggerate how much of a game-changer this space-based capability might be if perfected. US missile defences could become negated or even obsolete.”

China denies FT claims, says it was ‘routine spacecraft test’

Two days after the FT exclusive report by Journalists Demetri Sevastopulo and Kathrin Hille made global headlines, China’s foreign ministry has denied the claims made by it.

In a press statement, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated that a routine test was carried out in July to test different types of reusable spacecraft technology.

“This was not a missile, this was a spacecraft. This is of great significance for reducing the cost of spacecraft use,” Lijian told media. He also added that many other nations have carried out similar tests in the past.

When specifically asked if the FT article was inaccurate, Lijian said, “Yes”.

Pakistan: Father sets house of daughters on fire over love marriage, 4 children among 7 dead

In a case of alleged honour killing, a father in Pakistan has reportedly set the family of his daughters on fire because one of them married against his wishes. Seven members of a family were burnt alive in a house fire late on the night of Saturday, October 16, when they were asleep in a room in Peer Jahanian town in central Pakistan’s Muzaffargarh district. The police are now on the lookout for the accused Manzoor Hussain who has fled after setting his daughter’s house ablaze.

The house which was set on fire was shared by his two daughters Fauzia Bibi and Khurshid Mai. The Pakistan Police said that the people who died in the incident were the two sisters Fauzia Bibi and Khurshid Mai, Bibi’s four-month-old son, along with Mai’s three children aged two, six and 13. Mai’s husband also died in the blaze.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination by Police.

Mehboob Ahmad, Bibi’s husband, told police that he was not at home at the time of the incident and found it burning when he returned from work early the next morning.

Ahmad said that he had married Fauzia Bibi 18-months-ago against his father-in-law Manzoor Hussain wishes. Enraged by this, Manzoor Hussain planted the fire to avenge his daughter’s marriage. Based on a complaint filed by Bibi’s husband, the police has registered an FIR against Manzoor Hussain and Sabir Husain, the father-in-law and brother-in-law respectively.

Jacqueline Fernandez misses ED summons for the fourth time in connection to money laundering case

Enforcement Department had summoned Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez in connection with the Sukesh Chandrashekhar-linked alleged multi-crore extortion racket. According to reports, the actress missed the ED summons for the fourth time on Monday.

Fernandez was interrogated for around four hours in the month of August, and her statement was recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Jacqueline Fernandez was then again interrogated in September.

ED is investigating whether Fernandez or any other actor was beneficiary in the 200-crore money laundering case. On October 14, the Enforcement Department had also questioned actress-dancer Nora Fatehi in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar money laundering case. Fernandez was scheduled to appear before ED again on October 15. According to reports, the actress missed ED summons on September 25, October 15, 16, and again on 18th.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik says he has quarreled with PM Modi, Amit Shah to get them to agree to farmer demands

Amidst the growing spate of violence and anarchy witnessed during the ongoing ‘farmers’ protest, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik exhorted the Centre to meet the demands of the protesters, stating that BJP’s return to power will be unlikely if demands of farmers are not fulfilled.

Malik made the remarks on the sidelines of an event held in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district. He highlighted how the BJP leaders were unable to enter several villages in the election-bound Uttar Pradesh. “I am from Meerut. In my area, no BJP leader can enter any village. In Meerut, in Muzzafarnagar, in Baghpat, they can’t enter,” he said.

When asked if he supports farmers and would resign from the post he currently holds as a mark of solidarity with the farmers, the Meghalaya Governor said he is standing with the farmers and if need be, he would relinquish his post and extend his support to the farmers.

Malik says he has quarrelled with many leaders, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and others to convince them to accommodate the demands made by the demonstrators.

“Here, if the government legally guarantees MSP, then this will be resolved. The farmers can leave the issue of the three bills because the Supreme Court has put it on hold. There is only one thing, you are not even doing that. Why… without MSP nothing will happen,” said Malik.

On the question of whether he has any message for PM Modi, Malik he won’t say anything publicly but will convey his opinions personally to the Prime Minister. “Khaas taur se, Sikhon ke bare me ye log jante nahin hai…nihatte guruon ne puri Mughal samrat se ladai ladi hai. Toh unko tang nahin karna chahiye (They have no idea about Sikhs…Unarmed Sikh gurus fought with the Mughal emperor. So they should not be bothered),” said Malik.

Malik also proffered himself to mediate between the Centre and the farmers. “There is one thing, which will resolve this. You guarantee MSP, I will convince farmers that the three laws are on hold, leave it now,” said Malik, adding “They should have the guarantee of minimum support price. They will be ruined if it is not there. They won’t do any agreement less than that.”

This is not the first time that Malik has openly supported the demonstrations going on against the central farm laws for over a year now. Earlier this year, Malik defended the farmers saying they cannot be insulted and urged the government to iron out the differences.

Malik also expressed his views on the violence that stuck Lakhimpur Kheri village in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month. When asked if Union Minister Ajay Mishra should have resigned over the incident, Malik answered in the affirmative, saying that the resignation should have happened the day of the violence itself. He further added that Mishra does not deserve to be a minister.

‘When I was the governor, terrorists didn’t dare to enter within a radius of 50 kms of Srinagar’: Meghalaya Governor

Malik, who also served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, also weighed in on the recent spate of civilian killings in the Union territory. He said when he was the governor of the erstwhile state, “terrorists didn’t dare to enter within a radius of 50 kilometres of Srinagar.”

“When I was there, there was no stone pelting, no (terrorist) recruitment and nobody was dying. Terrorist didn’t dare to enter within a radius of 50 kilometres of Srinagar. Now they are openly killing inside the city,” said Malik. He declined to comment on the issue further, but said the killings were ‘extremely painful and saddening.’
