West Bengal: Five-time MLA and national secretary of AICC Mainul Haque resigns from Congress once more, all set to join TMC

0

Former Congress MLA from West Bengal Farraka assembly constituency and All India Congress Committee national secretary Mainul Haque tendered his resignation from his post as well as the party on Tuesday. Reportedly, he is all set to join the Trinamool Congress on September 23.

In a letter to the party high command, Haque thanked Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for giving him the opportunity to serve as AICC secretary. “I hereby also resign from primary membership of INC,” read his letter.

Mainul Haque resigns for the second time

Interestingly, Mainul Haque had announced his decision to quit the party in 2018 as well citing lack of development in his constituency. Announcing his decision at a rally, Haque had alleged, “I am not being able to provide security to my supporters. There is complete anarchy in the area. Development has been completely stalled. I felt we can only do it if I join the TMC.”

“Lot of work needs to be done. I want peace to be restored here. People would be able to live in peace,” he had said further. Haque with several other MLAs had ditched Congress to join TMC in July 2018. He had also criticized the party for lack of coordination amongst top leaders.

“There is no coordination among the top Congress leaders in the state. Since I am a Congress MLA, the state government has no plans for development in my area. Even if I try, the development plans are thwarted by the ruling party. How long can this continue?” Haque had remarked.

Reacting to Haque’s resignation, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had remarked, “He surrendered to the terror tactics of Trinamool Congress. It is unfortunate.” His reason to quit Congress yet again is unclear.

No interim relief for Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in coal scam case

The Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim relief to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee in the money laundering case related to the coal scam in West Bengal. The decision was taken by Justice Yogesh Khanna of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, September 21.

Asking the ED to respond to the plea in three days, the court has fixed September 27 as the next date of hearing.

The Delhi HC was responding to Banerjee and his wife’s plea to quash the summons issued to them by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The husband-wife duo was asked by the agency to personally appear before it in Delhi under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 on September 21. The TMC MP had contended that they are residents of Kolkata and should not be compelled to join the probe in the national capital.

Opposing Banerjee’ plea the agency had said that money laundering has national and transnational ramifications and its investigation is not restricted to any police station or area.

The duo had last appeared before the department in Delhi on Monday, September 6, in connection to a money laundering case linked to the coal scam case. Then too, the duo had expressed their unwillingness to travel to Delhi due to the pandemic. Rujira Banerjee had then urged the ED to allow her to appear before officials in Kolkata. However, later the two had left for Delhi to appear before the department.

‘Will hang myself publicly if found guilty’: claims Abhishek Banerjee before facing ED in coal scam case

On September 5, before leaving for Delhi, the TMC MP had told reporters at the Kolkata airport that he would “hang himself in public” if he is proven guilty.

It may be noted that the ED had accused TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee of being a beneficiary of funds obtained from this illegal trade. However, he has denied all charges.

The case was filed under criminal sections of the (PMLA) by the ED based on the FIR filed by the CBI in November 2020. The FIR had alleged a multi-crore coal pilferage scam related to the Eastern Coalfields Ltd mines in the West Bengal’s Kunustoria and Kajora areas near Asansol.

Watch: Taliban chants ‘Allahu Akbar’ while ripping off Pakistan flag on truck carrying humanitarian aid

A video has gone viral on social media where Talibs can be seen rushing towards a truck carrying aid from Pakistan and removing the Pakistan flag from it while excitedly chanting ‘Nara e Takbeer, Allahu Akbar’.

As per a tweet by political researcher Abdul Sayed, one of the Talibs even said that the Pakistan flag should be burned. The aid was sent by Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum.

According to Pak Afghan Youth Forum, a convoy of 17 trucks carrying flour, cooking oil, rice, sugar and other essentials was sent from Pakistan to Afghanistan.

The aid was sent as ‘humanitarian gesture’ from Pakistan as Afghanistan’s foreign reserves are frozen and Pakistan wanted to show a brotherly solidarity.

More truckloads of food was supplied on 20th September as well from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Speaking to Pakistani media, the chairman of Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum had said that they would support Afghanistan at all levels as it is a Muslim neighbouring country.

The Islamist group Taliban, which is currently running Afghanistan, however, does not seem too happy with the Pakistan flag.

Delhi: 17-year-old Alok found hanging, police calls it suicide, family says murder by Muslim girlfriend’s family

On Sunday, September 19, a 17-year-old teen’s body was found hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances in Haiderpur, Shalimar Bagh area in Delhi. While the police claimed that it was a case of suicide, the bereaved family members of the deceased teenage boy and members of the Hindu outfit Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have termed it a murder.

The boy’s family has stated that he was romantically involved with a local Muslim girl and her family has killed the boy.

The report published by Hindi daily Jagran

According to Alok Kumar’s father’ Hariram, his son went missing on the evening of Friday, September 17. The family started searching for him after he did not return home. They searched the entire night but could not trace him. On Saturday, the body of Alok was found hanging from a tree near a hotel in Haiderpur. The family of the deceased boy has accused the girlfriend’s family of murder.

The body of 17-year-old Alok handed over to his family

Hariram told the police that the girl had called Alok on Friday and asked him to meet somewhere. She had asked him to leave his mobile phone behind in the house. Hariram revealed that the girl and his family was pressurising him to leave his family and marry her. Alok was, however, unwilling to buckle to the pressure.

Hariram also confirmed that the girl’s father had threatened him that his son would not be spared.

The police, however, stated that the autopsy report states suicide as the cause of death. The family of the deceased, on the other hand, are hell-bent that their son was murdered in cold blood and hanged to the tree by the members of the girl’s family.

According to a report by TOI, the CCTV footage of the locality showed Alok’s girlfriend and her friend first going to Alok’s house then later leaving the house with him.

The deceased boy’s sister alleges murder by his Muslim girlfriend’s family

OpIndia has acquired a video in which Alok Kumar’s sister Jyoti is heard naming the girlfriend’s father- Rehmat Ali, mother, uncle and aunt namely- Parvez and Salma, and her older sister Roshni as accused in the crime.

She added that the girl’s relatives had assaulted them and threatened to kill her brother. When Hariram along with Alok’s other family members had gone to the girl’s residence to inquire about his son’s whereabouts, the girl’s kin had beaten them up, said Jyoti.

Here the father of the deceased teenager who is sitting in the crowd showed his wounds, saying that he was assaulted by the girl’s family.

Jyoti went on to further reveal that the day Alok went missing, they wanted to go to the police station to file a missing complaint, but their neighbours had discouraged them saying that the police would not accept a missing complaint before 24 hours.

Alok’s sister said that they went out looking for Alok the night he went missing. They had, in fact, spent the entire night looking for him. Jyoti furthered that they went to the same location from where Alok’s body was recovered the next day. She claimed that they checked the area not once, but three or four times but Alok’s body was not there on Friday evening. Their father visited the particular spot early next morning too, but Alok was not there, said Jyoti, implying that Alok was murdered elsewhere and his body was hung there later.

After the news of the incident spread, VHP members reached the spot and staged a protest. They demanded capital punishment for the accused.

A repeated pattern?

Though the police insist that it is a suicide, there have been numerous cases of hate crime where non-Muslim lovers of Muslim girls have been killed in cold blood by their families,

Last year in October, an 18-year-old boy named Rahul was beaten to death in Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar by Mohammad Afroz, Mohammad Raj and three others over an alleged love affair with a Muslim girl.

In another gruesome incident in Delhi, Ankit Saxena was brutally stabbed to death by the family members of his girlfriend Shehzadi on February 1, 2018.

Suresh Chavhanke vs Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter: Here is what happened

From the last one week, there is an online scuffle going on between Sudarshan TV chief Suresh Chavhanke and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s fans on Twitter. It all started when Chavhanke posted a tweet on Hindi Divas in which he said that the encroachment of Urdu words in the Hindi language is an attempt to kill the national language, and it should be stopped.

He further added that his channel has stopped using over 500 Urdu words that were being used while covering news. Calling it “Bhasha Jihad”, Chavhanke accused Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and writer Javed Akhtar along with search engine Google, of imposing Urdu.

Following the tweet, the fan accounts of Shah Rukh Khan started posting tweets against Chavhanke and demanded his arrest.

Chavhanke wrote, “Today, fans of Shah Rukh Khan and Javed Akhtar are trending demands of my arrest because I raised my voice against their conspiracy to impose Urdu in Hindi. But I will continue to raise my voice for Hindi-Hindu-Hindustan. Do whatever you want to do.”

By then, tweets in his support started to pour in, and it started a Twitter war between the fans of SRK and Chavhanke. On September 16, Chavhanke claimed that the profiles of the SRK gang that had been hired to attack him had not mentioned the names of their ‘Abba Jaan’. He was pointing out that the majority of the accounts were without a real name or surname. He further added that people should look at the support he is getting from his fans who have real profiles. “This is the difference between so-called fans and patriots,” he said. He also added the hashtag #BoycottShahRukhKhan.

Supporters of Chavhanke trended the hashtag.

A hashtag was trended in which supporters of Chavhanke called him Deshbhakt. Many high-profile verified accounts of Twitter also showed solidarity to Chavhanke.

Chavhanke shared two tweets on September 21. In the first tweet, he pointed fingers at Shah Rukh for coming up with the film on Tipu Sultan. He said if a film on Tipu is allowed, next they would make a movie on Aurangzeb, which is not acceptable. Notably, the news of the movie on Tipu Sultan Chavhanke mentioned was based on a trailer created by a fan. No such movie was planned.

In the second tweet, he questioned why Shah Rukh Khan wanted Pakistani players in Indian Premium League. He further asked if SRK thinks that Indians do not have the talent to play in his team. Notably, when Pakistani players were excluded from IPL in 2010, SRK had objected to the decision. He praised the Pakistani players and said, “I am not giving an excuse, and I truly believe Pakistani players are the best T20 players in the world. They are the champions. They are wonderful. But somewhere down the line, there is an issue, and we cannot deny it.”

As Chavhanke continues to attack SRK on social media, tweets against him and his support are pouring in to keep the netizens busy. Netizens are hailing Chavhanke for exposing Shah Rukh Khan through his fans.

Wasim Jaffer who was accused of favouring Muslim cricketers and bringing maulvis to team camp bats in support of Pakistan, draws flak: Details

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer on Monday drew the ire of social media users for sympathising with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after England Cricket Board took the decision of calling off their Pakistan tour.

In a Twitter post, Jaffer termed England’s decision “very disappointing” and added that England Cricket Board owes a lot to both Pakistan and West Indies.

“The @TheRealPCB have every reason to be disappointed with the ECB. Pak and WI toured England last year during pandemic before vaccines. England owes so much to both Pak and WI. Least ECB could do is not cancel the reciprocal tours. There are no winners when cricket is cancelled,” Jaffer tweeted.

Jaffer was referring to the earlier tours of Pakistan and West Indies during the difficult times of COVID-19 outbreak, and urged England Cricket Board not to cancel the upcoming tour.

The late-night tweet by former cricketer came just minutes after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday said that the board has decided to withdraw both, men’s as well as women’s, teams from the upcoming tour of Pakistan.

The decision came hot on the heels of New Zealand cricket board’s move to recall its team touring Pakistan for first time in 18 years over security concerns.

As per ECB, the board convened a meeting over the weekend when the decision to not go to Pakistan was taken. “Earlier this year, we agreed to play two additional T20 World Cup warm-up games in Pakistan in October, adding a short women’s tour with double headers alongside the men’s games,” the ECB said in a statement. However, the ECB ‘reluctantly’ decided to withdraw both the teams.

However, withdrawal from Pakistan’s tour did not sit well with Wasim Jaffer, who had earlier been accused of favouring Muslim cricketers while presiding over the role of Uttarakhand Team’s cricket coach. Jaffer’s deprecating tweet over ECB’s decision, however, stirred a furor on the internet, with Twitter users criticising him for trivialising the security threat cricketers face in Pakistan.

Social media users slam Wasim Jaffer for sympathising with Pakistan

“They cancelled tour because of specific Intelligence about Teπor attack on NZ team and other foreigners. What’s ur logic to defend an ally of Taliban named Pakistan?” responded one Twitter user.

Another Twitter user reminded Wasim Jaffer of tenuous security situation in Pakistan by highlighting the ghastly episode of Islamic terrorists attacking touring Sri Lankan cricketers in 2008-09.

Another Twitter user said COVID and security concern are two different things, adding that condemnation of England and New Zealand cricket boards is still a better prospect than their cricketers facing terror attacks in Pakistan.

Many others slammed the cricketer for his misplaced sense of concern for Pakistan, which is routinely involved in promoting terror activities in India and whose cricketers and citizens openly extend their support to the prophesy of Ghazwa-e-Hind, a prediction that India will be conquered by Islamic forces.

A Twitter user called out Wasim for batting in support of Pakistan even though their cricketers were celebrating the dastardly attack by Pakistan-backed terrorist in Pulwama in February 2019.

While Wasim is under criticism for commiserating with Pakistan Cricket Board, it is worth revisiting his dubious antecedents. Jaffer is a former Indian cricketer, a right-hand opening batsman and an occasional off-break bowler. His cricketing career on the international stage was not as remarkable as his coaching tenure for the Uttarakhand cricket team, during which he was accused of favouring Muslim cricketers over meritorious ones.

Jaffer accused of having religious bias and preferring Muslim cricketers

In February 2021, Jaffer submitted his resignation from the post of Uttarakhand team coach over fallout with the selectors committee and the cricket association. Mahim Verma, who is a former vice-president of the BCCI, accused Jaffer of quarreling with Cricket Union officials and trying to break the cricket team due to his religious bias. Verma said that initially they lent full support to Jaffer and accepted his decisions considering that he has scored the maximum runs in domestic cricket.

Verma added that he never pressurised Jaffer regarding the selection of players. He said that Jaffer brought in Iqbal Abdulla, Samad Salla and Jai Bista as guest players. Jaffer forcefully made Iqbal Abudullah the captain of the team instead of Kunal Chandela, alleged Verma. However, the team lost four matches out of 5 in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament due to his decisions, said Verma.

Jaffer got the Uttarakhand team’s slogan ‘Ram Bhakt Hanuman ki Jai’ changed and brought Maulvis to team camp

Verma further alleged that the team’s assistant staff used to tell him that Jaffer used to bring a Maulvi during the camp. Navneet Mishra, who has been team manager during the Mushtaq Ali, trophy reportedly said that three Maulvis had visited the camp. He said that Jaffer told him that the Maulvis had come to read Namaz. This happened twice during the camp.

Mishra further told that the team has been using the slogan ‘Ram Bhakt Hanuman ki Jai’ but Jaffer got the slogan changed to ‘Go Uttarakhand’ saying that the team had members from different religions. Jaffer was suggested the slogan ‘Uttarakhand ki Jai’ but he had a problem with the word ‘Jai’, he said.

Taliban radicals thrash male doctor for attending to a female patient, medical attention to pregnant women almost impossible in Afghanistan

0

The situation in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over is getting worse with time. It is getting difficult for female patients, especially pregnant women, to get medical attention on time. As per a report published in BBC, a male doctor was thrashed by the Taliban for attending a female patient alone. A midwife was quoted by BBC saying, “If a female doctor cannot see a woman, the male doctor can only see the patient where two or more other people are present.”

Reportedly, the Taliban have ordered hospitals and clinics to allow only female staff to attend to female patients making it difficult to provide medical attention on time. The experiences that pregnant women and midwives have shared are horrifying. One woman identified as Rabia told BBC that while delivering her third child, she had to encounter substantial difficulties. “It was horrible,” she said.

Recently, a female doctor had shared how she was beaten along with her family members by the Taliban in Kandahar. The NPR had reported in August about a doctor who was threatened by the Taliban because she had given a 13-year-old child bride a contraceptive shot.

She said the support in the hospital had been stripped down to bare basics with no access to pain relief medication or food. “We were sweating like we were taking a shower,” she claimed as there was no power of fuel for backup generators. Her midwife Abida said, “It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in my job. It was too painful. But this is our story every night and every day in the hospital since the Taliban took over.” Rabia’s child was delivered in a mobile phone’s flashlight.

Experts worried about possible increase in maternal deaths

Afghanistan is one of the worse countries when it comes to the infant mortality rate. Currently, it stands at 638 deaths per 100,000 live births. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the situation was worse before allied forces took control of the country in 2001. However, according to United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), if the situation keeps deteriorating with the Taliban taking over the country, Afghanistan may see up to 51,000 additional maternal deaths, 4.8 million unintended pregnancies and limited to no access to family planning clinics between by 2025.

Dr Wahid Majrooh, chief of public health, said, “Primary health facilities across Afghanistan are collapsing… maternal mortality rates, child mortality rates, will increase, unfortunately.” In addition, as the Taliban have locked the country, access to life-saving supplies and medicines for women’s reproductive health got affected to a large extent. Dr Majrooh added, “There is no preparation for the possibility of a fourth wave of Covid.”

No access to ambulance

BBC further reported that as funds have been frozen, it is next to impossible for the patients to get ambulance service. A pregnant woman was asked to get a taxi a few days ago as the ambulance was not available. She gave birth in a taxi and was brought to the hospital unconscious, with the newborn in a critical state. Fortunately, both survived, but not everyone is going to be that fortunate.

Female patients are returning from clinics without medicine. Long queues, limited to no access to medicines and Talibani rules that disallow women to go out without a man have worsened the situation. This rule keeps thousands of women away from healthcare as it is not always possible for women to find a male relative willing or available to spend hours in a clinic, especially in the war-torn country where most people are struggling for survival. The dilemma to choose between earning money to sustain life and spending hours in a clinic or a hospital will have a serious effect on the 54.5% of the population of Afghanistan that lives below the poverty line.

UP: Sikh woman murdered by live-in partner Nafees Ahmed for insisting on marriage, crime scene manipulated to look like accident

0

Manpreet Kaur (28) was found dead with her body and head crushed on NH-74 at Afzalgarh in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night. On reaching the spot, the local police considered it to be a case of an accident assuming a heavy vehicle must have run over the victim.

However, a further investigation into the matter has revealed shocking details. Reportedly, Kaur’s live-in-partner Nafees had carefully planned her murder to make it look like an accident.

Manpreet eloped with Nafees

Manpreet Kaur was an employee of a garment shop in Uttarakhand’s Kashipur. She had tied the knot with a small business owner Sukhveer Singh (29) eight years ago. The two had a daughter together who is now five years old.

However, three years ago Kaur fell in love with Nafees Ahmed (26), a truck driver from Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor. The two eloped and were in a live-in relationship since then.

Nafees did not want to get married

Kaur’s husband Sukhveer was summoned by the police on Sunday when he identified her body and gave a lead in the investigation. “He said Manpreet had been asking Nafees to marry her. Nafees did not want to,” informed a cop. A case was then filed by Sukhveer naming Nafees as the accused.

Nafees was detained shortly after. As per police, he also confessed to murdering Kaur revealing his elaborate plan.

In a statement on the cold-blooded murder, Bijnor SP Dharamveer Singh informed, “Nafees told police that Manpreet was pressuring him to marry her. However, he did not intend to marry her. On Saturday he took her out for a drive in his truck.”

“When they reached an isolated stretch, he pulled out an iron rod and hit her head. When she lost consciousness, he placed her on the road and ran his truck over her body and then her head,” he said further.

The cops have also recovered Kaur’s Aadhar card from Nafees’ mobile. The rod and his truck have also been seized by the police. He was arrested on Monday afternoon and sent to jail.

As per an Amar Ujala report, Nafees on reaching a desolate spot made Kaur drink beer. When intoxicated, he hit her with an iron rod and threw her on the road after which he ran over Kaur till she succumbed to the injuries.

Allegedly, Kaur had blackmailed Nafees to marry her and since then he had been planning to get rid of her.

Police recover video recorded by Mahant Narendra Giri before his death, Yogi Adityanath assures ‘culprits won’t be spared’

Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri was found dead in Baghambari Mutt in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday, September 20. The probe is currently underway. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, who reached the Baghambari Math on Tuesday to pay his last respect to Mahant Narendra Giri, assured that the culprits would not be spared.

The Uttar Pradesh CM said: “The post-mortem will be done tomorrow. The culprit will not be spared. Several pieces of evidence have been collected regarding the incident. A team of senior police officials is investing the case.”

Uttar Pradesh police arrests Swami Anand Giri and two others from Haridwar

A day after the purported suicide of the seer, the Prayagraj police filed an FIR against his closest disciple Swami Anand Giri and two others at the George Town police station and detained them in connection with the seer’s death. Anand has been booked under Section 306 of the IPC (Abetment of suicide), according to the copy of FIR.

Reportedly, Swami Anand Giri was Narendra Giri’s most devoted protege until they fell out in May after the latter was expelled from the Niranjani Akhara over accusations of financial irregularities.

Arrested by the police in Uttarakhand last evening, Anand Giri has been accused of harassing the deceased Mahant. UP ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar informed that Anand Giri was detained from Haridwar with the help of Uttarakhand Police and is being brought to Prayagraj by a team of ten Uttar Pradesh Police personnel.

Prior to his arrest, Anand Giri had reportedly told media on Monday: “Guruji was not the kind of person who would commit suicide, he was tortured over money. This is a huge conspiracy against me. An unbiased investigation should be conducted.”

Mahant Narendra Giri recorded video before demise

According to reports, along with a suicide note, the police have also recovered a video recorded by Mahant Narendra Giri before his death. As per his disciple Nirbhay Dwivedi, the content of the video is similar to that of the suicide note, in which the Hindu seer had mentioned the names of the people who had been allegedly troubling him.

In the 7-8 page long suicide note, Mahant Narendra Giri had written that he was upset for a number of reasons and thus decided to end his life. According to IG KP Singh, the suicide letter read: “I lived with dignity, will not be able to live with insult, this is why I am taking my own life”.

Mahant Narendra Giri found hanging in his room in Baghambari Math in Prayagraj

On Monday evening, Mahant Narendra Giri was discovered dead in his room in the Baghambari Math in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, after lunch, the 72-year-old seer retired to his room. Later in the evening, when he did not respond when disciples knocked on his door or frequently called him on his mobile phone, the latter broke the door open and entered the room. They found the seer hanging from the ceiling with a nylon rope.

Expressing grief at the seer’s death PM Modi tweeted in Hindi: “The death of Akhara Parishad president Shri Narendra Giri ji is extremely sad. While devoted to spiritual traditions, he played a big role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together. May the Lord give him a place at His feet. Om shanti.”

Meanwhile, the head priest of Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya, Mahant Raju Das has demanded a CBI probe and narco test of Swami Anand Giri.

Moreover, Sunil Chaudhary, an advocate has also filed a written petition in the Allahabad High Court, asking for a CBI investigation on the mysterious death of Mahant Narendra Giri.

The petitioner has said that the circumstances surrounding the Mahant’s death on Monday evening were exceedingly suspicious and intriguing. In fact, the five-page suicide letter supposedly written by Mahant Narendra Giri has also been questioned by several Akhara members.

Bengal: Nighty-clad Kolkata crossdresser man dances to ‘UP Bihar’ song on Maa Flyover to mock UP govt’s ad, gets fined

0

On Tuesday (September 21), the Kolkata police booked crossdresser and influencer Sandy Saha for illegally parking his car on the Maa flyover. Saha was seen dancing on the flyover to mock the recent advertisement by the Uttar Pradesh government, which was erroneously posted by the Indian Express newspaper.

As per reports, the cops have registered a case on their own and directed Saha to appear before them at the Kolkata police headquarters. The car was identified after the traffic control room in Lalbazar watched the CCTV footage, besides the video posted by the influencer on Facebook. Sandy Saha and his driver have now been issued a notice, thereby increasing their legal troubles.

In a video posted on September 13, Saha was seen mocking the Yogi Adityanath government by claiming that ‘Maa flyover’ belonged to Uttar Pradesh and not West Bengal. “You think this is Kolkata? No, its UP!”, remarked Sandy Saha as he hurriedly crossed the road. He then stood on the divider and danced to the tunes of ‘Main Aai Hoon UP Bihar Lootne.’ He claimed, “Do you think I am in Kolkata? No, I am in UP. Look how the State has developed… This is our famous Maa flyover. This is UP. Did you see that we have Royal Bengal here? Look at the development in the State… Let me dedicate a dance on this occasion.”

“Many of you are jealous by witnessing the progress of Uttar Pradesh. Several people who live in Kolkata might claim that this is not UP, ” he added. All of a sudden, Sandy Saha then turned paranoid and inquired, “Will the police catch me on the road? Will they kill them? Will I be run over by a car? I am scared?” After a few minutes of theatrics on the flyover, he concluded by saying, “Namaskar! We have done great development here! Jai UP!”

According to his Instagram bio, Sandy Saha is an actor, creator, entertainer and dreamer. He is the first ‘openly gay’ participant of MTV Roadies Extreme. He loves cross-dressing and has been spotted wearing sarees and other female outfits. Saha has over 14 lac followers on Facebook, 4 lac followers on Youtube and 2.3 lac followers on Instagram.

Maa Flyover controversy, UP govt ad and hithob by the Indian Express

Earlier on September 12, the Indian Express had apologised for using the photograph of the Maa flyover in Kolkata in an advertisement for the Uttar Pradesh Government. The newspaper said that the advertorial was prepared by the marketing department of the newspaper. Indian Express said in a statement, “A wrong image was inadvertently included in the cover collage of the advertorial on Uttar Pradesh produced by the marketing department of the newspaper. The error is deeply regretted and the image has been removed in all digital editions of the paper.”

The statement came after propagandists such as Dhruv Rathee, Saket Gokhale, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra and others had blamed the Yogi Government for the goof up. This left people speculating whether it was a deliberate hitjob against the Yogi Government ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Some were convinced that it was done intentionally. From the statement of Indian Express, it is clear that the Uttar Pradesh Government had nothing to do with the advertisement. The entire advertorial, with its goof ups, was prepared by the marketing department of the newspaper. Despite this, Sandy Saha went ahead to mock the UP government.
