Nine murders to cover up one: Sanjay Yadav killed his live-in partner Rafiqa, read how 9 people had to die next

In an attempt to hide the murder of a woman, a man from Bihar reportedly killed nine more people in Telangana’s Warangal district last week.

According to the reports, the Warangal police had recovered nine bodies from an open well at Gorrekunta village near Warangal town on May 21 and 22. All the nine persons, including six members of one family, were killed by mixing sleeping pills in their food and the accused had thrown them one by one into a nearby well.

However, the police successfully solved the murder case after they arrested 24-year-old Sanjay Kumar Yadav, who confessed to having murdered the family of six and three others to cover up the murder of a woman named Rafiqa with whom he had a live-in relationship.

The deceased are identified as Mohammad Maqsood (55), his wife Nisha (48), sons Shahabad Alam (21) and Sohail Alam (18), daughter Bushra (20) and her three years old son Shoaib – all from the same family from West Bengal. Three other migrant workers have been also killed by the accused to hide the murder of the woman. The three are identified as Sriram (21) and Shyam (22) from Bihar, besides Shakil (30) from Tripura.

Revealing the murder details, Warangal Police Commissioner V Ravinder said that all the nine were killed after sedating them by lacing their food with sleeping pills. As they fell unconscious, the accused put each person in a gunny bag, dragged them one by one and threw them into a well. Another migrant from Tripura, who was also present in the building, was also murdered.

The accused killed nine people to cover-up the murder of Rafiqa

Sanjay Yadav, who was working at the gunny bag factory, had reportedly developed a relationship with a 37-year-old Rafiqa, who had come from West Bengal with three children after separating from her husband. She was also employed in the same factory. Maqsood Alam, and his wife Nisha, who is Rafiqa’s sister, were also working in the gunny bag manufacturing unit for the last 20 years.

Yadav had taken a room on rent and was living with Rafiqa. Reportedly, Yadav and Rafiqa had a fight recently after the accused had tried to sexually exploit the teenage daughter of Rafiqa.

The accused devised a plot to murder Rafiqa and informed Maqsood’s family that he was taking her to West Bengal to talk to her elders for marriage. The duo boarded the Garib Rath train to Visakhapatnam on March 6, where he bought butter milk and mixed sleeping pills, served it to Rafiqa.

As she fell asleep, he strangled her to death and threw the dead body from the train near Nidadavole in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

Yadav later got down from the train at Rajahmundry and returned to Warangal. When Maqsood enquired about Rafiqa, Yadav said that he left her at her village and would come back later. He then convinced Rafiqa’s three children that their mother had stayed back.

The suspicion grew for Maqsood and his wife Nisha, who started questioning Sanjay on Rafiqa’s whereabouts. Maqsood even called West Bengal to found that Rafiqa had never reached her relatives’ house. As they started threatening Sanjay saying they would approach the police, he hatched a plan to eliminate all of them.

Killed a family of 6 and 3 others to cover up Rafiqa’s murder

On May 20, Sanjay visited the jute mill with 50-60 sleeping pills. The accused went to Maqsood’s house in the evening and mixed sleeping pills in the food prepared at their home on the occasion of Maqsood’s son’s birthday.

The two workers from Bihar, Shyam and Sriram, were also present at the time. He then went to the first floor and laced the food of the migrants too. The third worker, Shakeel, had eaten with Maqsood’s family that day.

As everyone fell unconscious at around the midnight, Sanjay Yadav then put each person in a sack and dumped them in the well.

The police commissioner said the CCTV footage of the accused leaving his house on the evening of May 20 and returning the next morning provided the vital clue to the investigating team.

Based on the CCTV evidence, the police were able to track Yadav and arrest him. “During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime,” the commissioner said.

Meanwhile, Rafiqa’s three children have been sent to a juvenile welfare home till they can be sent back to their relatives in West Bengal. The police are now investigating how could Sanjay get 50-60 sleeping pills from a pharmacy in Hanamkonda, Warangal.

‘Rajiv Gandhi was a murderer’: BJP leader Tajinder Bagga’s tweet irks Punjab Youth Congress, invites threats of FIR and physical assault

On Tuesday, the Punjab Youth Congress took to Twitter to threaten BJP Spokesperson Tajinder Bagga for holding former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi accountable for his involvement in the 1984 Sikh genocide.

In a bid to intimidate Bagga, the Punjab Youth Congress tweeted, “Come to Punjab. We will welcome you from Punjab border to the police outpost because the kind of language you are using needs to be taught some manners.” Labelling the BJP Spokesman as a ‘blot on humanity’ for daring to question their Rajiv Gandhi, the Youth Congress said that a ‘solid Punjabi style response’ was required to stop him tweeting against Rajiv Gandhi.

The veiled threat of physical violence against Tajinder Bagga was made by the Punjab Youth Congress in response to the former’s tweet on Tuesday morning wherein he called Rajiv Gandhi a murderer, referring to the Sikh genocide of 1984 where thousands of Sikhs were massacred in Delhi following the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

Tajinder Bagga responds to Threat

The BJP spokesperson responded to the intimidatory tweet in his own unique style. While accepting the challenge posed by the Punjab Youth Congress, Bagga said that he would meet them in person, post the lockdown.

He further asked them to decide the date and venue of their meeting. Tajinder Bagga further wrote in Punjabi “Dekhde aa Ek Sikh ch jyada dm hai ya Rajiv Gandhi de Chamchya Vich.” The loose translation of the tweet goes as “Let’s see who has more power – A Sikh or the stooges of Rajiv Gandhi.”

FIR against Bagga by Chhattisgarh Congress

On Sunday, the Youth Wing of the Congress had informed that they have registered an FIR against Tajinder Bagga at Kanker in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh for ‘insulting remarks’ against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. They alleged that Bagga had been trying to create ‘social unrest’ through his comments about the former PM. The FIR was filed by one Pankaj Wadhwani, the President of Youth Congress in Kanker. The BJP spokesperson responded to the FIR by reiterating that Rajiv Gandhi was indeed a murderer.

Crowd gathering at funerals and increase in burials in Muslim graveyards stoke fear of coronavirus infection amongst people in Indore, complaint to police

People living in Jivan Ki Fel area near Malwa Mill kabristan have complained to Pardeshipura police station about increasing funerals and the crowd gathering for the same at the Muslim graveyard. As per reports, there is a significant rise in the number of burials and most of the funeral processions have over 50 to 100 people attending the same. This has stoked fear of spread of Chinese coronavirus.

As per police, they are currently investigating the matter. If anyone is flouting the social distancing guidelines restricting number of people in gatherings then the police will intervene. The residents say that they have no issues with funeral processions, some of which even take place late in the night, but despite restriction on number of people who could attend the funeral, the number is quite high.

As per reports, mini trucks filled with people attend funerals late in the night. On Monday, a funeral procession was scheduled for a person who had allegedly died of coronavirus. However, after local residents protested, the same was cancelled.

Increase in burials in Muslim graveyards despite low coronavirus deaths

In Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Malegaon, Maharashtra, there has been a surge in burials at Muslim graveyards despite low death count due to coronavirus. Earlier, a steep rise in the number of dead bodies brought for burial in Muslim graveyards was witnessed in Indore. Between April 1-6, 127 dead bodies were buried in four graveyards. The same figure was 130 for the whole of March. While there were dead bodies cremated in Hindu crematoriums, the figures have been consistent with previous months with no abnormal increase.

Similarly, there has been an unusual spike in burials in Muslim graveyards in Malegaon, Maharashtra. According to an Indian Express report, despite a lower death toll due to Chinese coronavirus in Malegaon, there has been an unusual increase in number of burials in Muslim graveyards. In April 2020, the civic records show burials of 580 people, which was 277 in 2019. This figure also shows a jump of 48% as compared to March figures.

Kanyakumari: Villagers perform Bharat Mata puja after local Hindu groups and RSS obtain collector’s order to reinstate the statue

Following the Collector’s order to reinstate the Bharat Mata statue at the Issaki Amman temple in its original position, elated villagers organised a ‘Bharat Mata Pujan’ programme and worshipped the statue of Bharat Mata with enthusiasm.

“A movement to salute soldiers & Bharat Mata in Kanyakumari where police retreated under patriotic villagers solidarity. Bharat Mata honour restored with common villagers help. Will we have Bharat Mata statues in every city? Why did we have to battle it out? Why was BharatMata Opposed?” Former MP Tarun Vijay tweeted.

A controversy had erupted after a Christian missionary organisation Christians of the Church of South India (CSI), filed an objection over the statue of Bharat Mata with Kanyakumari police claiming that the statue was hurting their “religious sentiments”. After their complaint, the Kanyakumari Police had covered the statue, causing outrage amongst the villagers.

The incident sparked off protests as members of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Hindu Munnani, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other villagers staged demonstrations and later removed the cover. The protest was spearheaded by BJP leader Tarun Vijay and local RSS Swayamsevaks who later took to Twitter after the Collector’s passed an order to restore the statue of Bharat Mata to its former status.

A legal notice was issued to Kanyakumari police by advocate Ashutosh J Dubey for covering the Bharat Mata statue. Ashutosh had also questioned under which constitutional provision the statue of Bharat Mata was covered. Advocate Dubey also claimed that the police had arrested protesters who had uncovered the Bharat Mata statue after the police had concealed it.

The Bharat Mata statue was situated on the premises of Issaki Amman temple, which is reportedly 200 years old. The site is private property. The owner had installed a statue of Bharat Mata and had embellished it with a tri-colour saree.

25 lakh migrant workers returned to state so far amidst Coronavirus pandemic: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went live on Facebook on May 25 to enlist the measures taken by the state government to control the scourge of the coronavirus pathogen in the state. During the webinar, Yogi informed that until now, at least 25 lakh migrant workers had returned to Uttar Pradesh from other states, reports News 18.

The migrant workers have been returning from the Shramik special trains started by the central government since May 1. Uttar Pradesh has received the maximum number of Shramik special trains, ferrying stranded migrant workers and students.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has been working relentlessly to provide employment and various other facilities to the migrant workers who have returned to the state amidst the nationwide lockdown imposed by the central government to curb the scourge of the deadly Chinese virus.

Yogi Adityanath government completes skill mapping to ensure employment to all migrant workers

The UP state government has reportedly completed the task of skill mapping of 14.75 lakh migrant workers who have returned to the state during the lockdown. “The government is preparing to provide employment based on the skills to all migrant workers which will also ensure their social security. So far, 25 lakh migrants have returned to the state,” said the government spokesman.

Yogi Adityanath to set up ‘Migration Commission’

Earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath had tweeted of setting up a ‘Migration Commission’ in a bid to create employment opportunities for the migrants who have returned home from other states following the coronavirus lockdown.

As of now 23 lakh migrant workers have returned home in Uttar Pradesh who will be quarantined and given food kit along with help in preparation of ration card. Over and above, Rs 1,000 would also be provided, CM Yogi Adityanath informed.

Out of those returning from Mumbai at least 75% and at least 50% of those coming from Delhi have been tested positive for coronavirus, said Yogi. Moreover, 25-30 per cent of the migrant workers who had returned from other states were infected with the disease, added Yogi.

He further added that a ‘Migration Commission’ will be set up so that those migrants who have come back home in Uttar Pradesh could be facilitated in providing employment opportunities.

Migrants to be provided insurance at state level

He further informed that the migrants will be provided insurance at the state level and create job security so that they do not have to leave their homes to seek employment elsewhere. As reported by news agency ANI, Yogi Adityanath further said that if any state wants manpower, they cannot take them without permission of the government as there were reports of misbehaviour with them in other states.

UP: Police books over two dozen people for gathering in large groups to offer Eid namaz in a Muzaffarnagar Mosque

More than two dozen people were booked in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar for blatantly violating lockdown restrictions and the social distancing norms by offering mass prayers in a mosque on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The local police have filed a case against those who defied lockdown restrictions that proscribed offering mass prayers at religious places and gathered at a mosque on the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr to offer collective prayers. The incident happened despite the local authorities and the law enforcement officials requesting the residents to observe social distancing norms in the view of the coronavirus outbreak in the country and offer their prayers at their respective homes.

The coronavirus caseloads in the district are steadily on the rise. At present, there are 21 active cases of coronavirus in the district. Given this, the district administration was constantly appealing to the public that they should stay indoor and offer Eid prayers and peacefully celebrate the festival. However, the residents disregarded the requests and appeals made by the authorities as they swarmed in droves at the mosque to offer namaz.

As soon as police got wind of a big gathering at the mosque, it proceeded to act against the miscreants. The CO of Khatauli Muzaffarnagar, Ashish Pratap Singh, reached the Kajiana colony mosque where Muslims had gathered to offer communal prayers. Upon investigation, about two dozen people were found to be present in the mosque for the prayers. As a part of the investigation, the police have started procuring the CCTV footage of the area to identify those who had violated the instructions and congregated at the mosque to offer mass prayers. The police have registered a case against 8 known offenders and 20-25 unidentified people under relevant sections of the IPC and Disaster Management Act for violating lockdown restrictions.

Styrene gas tragedy: LG Polymers was warned over toxic styrene levels, green ministry red flags delay by Andhra govt: Report

18-days into the Visakhapatnam gas tragedy which claimed 12 lives and affected hundreds of others on May 7, startling revelations have now put LG Polymers in the dock. According to a report by India Today, the firm operated in increased capacity for almost two years without all environmental clearances.

It says that the files for clearances were sent to the centre almost 8 months after the company was told that the operations were a violation. LG Polymer was warned over toxic styrene levels and now the Green ministry has raised red flags on the “delay” by the Andhra Government in tackling the issue.

The India Today report says that LG Polymers had in fact in a affidavit filed in 2019, admitted of violating the environmental guidelines and had said that it would not repeat such a mistake in future. This the firm had said in response to a letter sent to them by the Andhra Pradesh pollution control board when it had applied for permission to expand its capacity from 415 tonnes per day (TPD) to 655 TPD on its existing site of 213 acres.

Andhra Pradesh High Court directed that LG Polymers premises would remain completely seized

In yet another development, the Andhra Pradesh High Court today ordered that the premises of LG Polymers be seized in the case relating to gas leakage from the plant. The court, in interim orders, directed that no one including the Directors of the company be allowed to enter the premises.

Moreover, the court barred the company directors from leaving the country without its permission, while ordering authorities not to release their surrendered passports.

Taking serious note of the transportation of styrene monomer from the plant to South Korea, the court wanted a reply on the net worth of LG Polymers Pvt Ltd in the next hearing slated on May 28.

NGT imposed Rs 50 crore fine on LG Polymer for not complying with rules

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday imposed an interim fine of Rs 50 crore on the LG Polymer. Styrene monomer stored in a tank in the polystyrene manufacturing plant had evaporated and escaped out of the tank after the refrigeration unit attached to had failed during the lockdown period.

The tribunal also sought response from the Centre and state authorities while noting that the incident appeared to be a result of “failure to comply” with rules and other statutory provisions.

LG Polymers’ plant violated green rules: Environment Ministry

After conducting a preliminary investigation in Thursday’s gas leak, the environment ministry on Friday said that the LG Polymers’ plant in Vishakhapatnam violated green rules as far as its functioning under expanded capacity is concerned.

“The company had applied for post-facto approval of its operation under expanded capacity. Since the clearance is pending, the operation of the plant is certainly a violation,” said a senior ministry official. The application was forwarded to the ministry by the Andhra Pradesh Environment Impact Assessment Authority on March 17.

According to the ministry, the LG Polymers India had applied for permission to expand its capacity from 415 tonnes per day (TPD) to 655 TPD on its existing site of 213 acres.

Meanwhile, the ministry is finalising guidelines for all industrial units in the country to ensure safety while resuming operations during lockdown 3.0 or post-lockdown period. Since many companies resumed their operations after May 3, such guidelines would help them in a smooth transition.

LG Polymers gas leak incident

A major chemical leak from the LG polymer plant near Visakhapatnam impacted villages in a five-km radius, leaving many people dead and several other citizens suffering from breathlessness and other problems. The leak was noticed by company staff who were reportedly inspecting machines to restart the factory and raised an alarm.

Hours after the styrene gas leak around 2:30 am on May 7 (Thursday) from the multinational LG Polymers Plant at RR Venkatapuram village, people were seen lying unconscious on sidewalks, near ditches and on the road, raising fears of a major industrial disaster. 12 people have lost their lives and more than 200 have been admitted to the hospitals following the leak of styrene gas from the facility.

Coronavirus outbreak: Congress demands a fresh Union Budget, claims the pandemic demands increased spending by the centre

India on Monday saw the highest single-day spike in the number coronavirus cases for the fourth consecutive day with 6,977 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed within a span of 24 hours. However, as the pandemic continues to sweep through the country at an alarming rate, upending lives of the citizens, the principal opposition party of the country has come up with a bizarre demand. The Congress party has demanded a fresh Union Budget from the central government.

The demand for a fresh budget comes after the Modi government has already announced a battery of measures to help the economy after the hit has taken during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Sharing an opinion column authored by scam-tainted senior Congress minister P Chidambaram, the official Twitter account of the Congress party tweeted, “We need a new Budget. The assumptions made on February 1 are no longer relevant. The government must present a New Budget on June 1, 2020. The total expenditure must be in the order of Rs 40,00,000 crore: Shri @PChidambaram_IN”

In his article, the INX Media scam accused P Chidambaram asserted that the country’s economic woes preceded the pandemic and blamed Modi government’s “misguided policies” as a reason for the economic crisis looming over the country. Surprisingly, the former finance minister, who is currently out on bail, backed the Modi government in its swift decision to lock down the country in mid-March to fight the spread of the contagion. However, he slammed the centre for the subsequent lockdowns that were enforced by the government without offering any feasible solution that could have been implemented to contain the relentless march of the coronavirus.

As the pandemic continues to crater the Indian economy, the former Union Minister proposed that the only way to counter the economic consequences of the coronavirus outbreak is a fiscal stimulus. Citing the Expenditure Budget for 2020-21 which is pegged at Rs 30,42,230 crore, Chidambaram contended that the said expenditure budget would not suffice in stopping the country’s inevitable plunge towards recession and fiscal infusion would be the only way to salvage the nation from an economic catastrophe.

He argued that the country needs a new budget and the Union Budget declared on February 1, 2020, no longer holds any relevance considering the present scenario. Suggesting increased spending, Chidambaram asserted that the total expenditure must be around Rs 40,00,000 crore. He also suggested that the present sources of revenue may yield only Rs 18, 00,000 crore and therefore the central government must be prepared to borrow to spur the languishing economy. The borrowing will go up from the BE of Rs 7,96,337 crore to Rs 22,00,000 crore, he added.

We will continue the service of the community with Langar and continue to stream live nitnem (daily prayers). We will ensure the safety of all our Sevadhaars (volunteers) and employees”, it added.

The recent attack on a Gurudwara in Kabul was conducted to avenge the supposed ‘plight of Muslims in Kashmir’

On March 25th, armed terrorists and suicide bombers attacked a Gurudwara in Shor Bazar area in Kabul, Afghanistan, leaving 27 dead and at least 15 injured. According to reports, the Islamic State communique claiming responsibility for the attack identified the terrorist as an Indian national ‘Abu Khalid al-Hindi’ who carried out the attack in order to avenge the supposed ‘plight of Muslims in Kashmir’. Meanwhile, Afghan and Western security agencies had believed that the attack was ordered by Quetta Shura of the Taliban at the behest of Pakistani intelligence.

China to evacuate its citizens from India amidst pandemic and rising border tensions: Here are the details of the press release

China will operate special flights to evacuate its citizens stranded in India and those facing the difficulties of returning to the mainland from June 2, a notice issued by the Chinese embassy said on Monday.

According to the official press release which was in Mandarin, the evacuation services offered by the Chinese government could be availed by international students, tourists and temporary business-visa holders among others who are facing difficulties in India.

China has asked its citizens willing to return to China to register by the morning of May 27.

The notice comes in the midst of a raging Wuhan coronavirus pandemic in India that has so far affected 1.40 lakh people and the rising border tensions with China following the stand-off between the Indian and the Chinese troops in Ladakh.

The notice put out by the Chinese embassy mentions that those taking the flights back to China will have to bear the cost of the tickets and the mandatory 14-day quarantine once they reach Mainland.

“Under the unified arrangement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant departments, the Chinese embassy and Consulates in India will help students, tourists, and temporary businessmen in India who are facing difficulties and are in dire need of returning home to take temporary flights back to China,” the notice said.

The notification also explicitly prohibited those who have tested positive or suspected to have caught the coronavirus or those who exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough to take the flights. Furthermore, close contacts of coronavirus patients whose body temperature surpasses 37.3 degrees centigrade will not be allowed to board the flights. The applicants have been asked to not conceal their medical history.

The notice cautioned the applicants to carefully evaluate and make an informed decision of opting to go back to China, citing India’s anti-epidemic measures which may not allow the Chinese citizens to return to India within a short duration of time.

The evacuation from China comes at a time when the number of Wuhan coronavirus cases in India is steadily on the rise. India was amongst the first countries to arrange the evacuation of more than 700 citizens and foreign nationals stranded in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

China to evacuate citizens amidst soaring border tensions as a result of expansionist adventurism in Ladakh, India

Border tensions between the two nations have once again reignited after the Chinese troops initiated a scuffle with their Indian counterparts. The stand-off escalated after the Chinese side brought in troops and heavy equipment from a military exercise that was being conducted in the region this week. It is also believed that Chinese troops have also taken up positions along the Pangong Tso Lake and are also carrying out aggressive patrols with motorboats to intimidate Indian forces in the region.

As per the report, the Chinese troops have damaged some temporary structures put up in the finger area near Pangong Tso Lake. At the Galwan flashpoint, Chinese troops have maintained their presence and are being countered by a good number of Indian reinforcements. The face-off position at Galwan was extended by the Chinese to another four kilometres as it was reinforced with additional troops this week.
