ISI backed Khalistanis, Kashmiris raise ‘Naraa-e-Taqbeer’, ‘Allah-u-Akbar’slogans, attack British Indians staging counter protest

0

On March 9th 2019, some ISI backed Khalistanis attacked a number of British Indians who were standing outside the Indian High Commission in London. The men wearing Sikh turbans raised slogans ‘Naraa-e-Taqbeer’ and ‘Allah-u-Akbar.

There were also anti-India slogans which were raised by ISI backed Khalistanis and anti-India elements. They then also proceeded to crumble the Indian flag and stomp on it. This “protest” took place in front of the Indian High Commission in London. They were reportedly protesting against “atrocities on ethnic minorities in India”.

In response to this, British Indians had reportedly organised a counter-protest. During the protests, the pro-Pakistan elements attacked the Indian diaspora and injured a few people too.

Members of groups such as the Overseas Pakistanis Welfare Council (OPWC) and Sikhs for Justice clashed with counter-protesters from groups including the Friends of India Society, UK, during a demonstration called to protest against “atrocities on ethnic minorities in India”.

Pakistan has long used Khalistanis and Kashmiris to mount a proxy battle against India. Recently, a terrorist had revealed that Pakistan is trying to use pro-Khalistan elements to revive to Khalistan unrest and stoke violence in Punjab. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu had also posed with Khalistani Gopal Singh Chawla when he travelled to Pakistan for Imran ‘Taliban’ Khan’s swearing-in ceremony. In May 2018, Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed had also held a “convention” where he had used Khalistanis for his anti-India propaganda.

Here is why Imran ‘Taliban’ Khan might not remain the PM of Pakistan if this case doesn’t go his way

Pakistan has always had trouble with it’s Prime Ministers and in the history of Pakistan, no Prime Minister has ever completed the 5-year tenure successfully. The same fate might befall Imran Khan, the current Prime Minister of Pakistan if this case doesn’t go his way.

On Monday, 11th March 2019, Lahore High Court is all set to hear seeking the disqualification of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister for not being “honest and righteous” and concealing the parentage of a daughter with a former partner in his nomination papers for the 2018 election. The petition claims that Imran Khan fathered a daughter, Tyrian Jade Khan White, and this was never revealed in his 2018 nomination papers.

Tyrian White is the daughter of Ana-Luisa (Sita) White, the daughter of the late Lord Gordon White. It has often been alleged that Tyrian is Imran Khan’s daughter, said a report in Dawn.

The petition demanding Imran Khan’s disqualification read, “Imran Khan did not mention White as one of his dependents in his nomination papers, and thus he does not measure up to Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution”.

This plea was accepted in the High Court on Saturday. The plea seeks the disqualification of Imran Khan under Articles 62 and 63 of Pakistan’s Constitution, that sets a precondition for a member of parliament to be “sadiq and ameen” (honest and righteous).

Articles 62 and 63 of the Pakistan Constitution were introduced by military ruler Ziaul Haq, and they effectively make the country more Islamic than it was under the constitution. The wordings of the articles are vague, giving a vast scope for interpretation. Section 62(1)(f) says “he is sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (honest)”, talking about the eligibility of Parliamentarians. The problem is, sadiq and ameen are two Arabic words which were never clearly defined in English, the language of the Pakistani constitution. And these words have been used to target politicians by opponents, mostly radical Islamists.

It can be noted that the former prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif had to resign due to this clause only. In 2017, Pakistan Supreme Court had declared that Nawaz Sharif was no longer sadiq and ameen as he had not disclosed certain facts in his nomination paper, and thus had disqualified him under the provisions of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.

The silver lining for Imran Khan might be that earlier in the year, Islamabad High Court had dismissed a similar petition saying that these were personal matters and the petition was ‘non-maintainable’. However, if this case does not go his way, Imran Khan could be looking at a disqualification as Prime Minister.

Imran Khan, widely known as Imran ‘Taliban’ Khan for his stated and public sympathies with the Taliban and all things terrorism, has been married thrice. His third marriage was to Bushra, a mother of five and former wife of a government servant that was not devoid of controversy.

Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan violates ceasefire along the LoC, an IED neutralised by the Army in Akhnoor

‘Feminist’ Anushka Sharma to produce web series based on rape accused Tarun Tejpal’s novel

Actress-producer Anushka Sharma will reportedly be rolling out a web series for Amazon’s online streaming platform under her production banner, Clean Slate Company, which will be based on journalist-author Tarun Tejpal’s book, The Story of My Assassins. According to reports, shooting for the show is currently on in Delhi.

Ironically, Anushka who claims to be a ‘feminist’ and an ‘idealist’ is set to produce a web series which is based on Tarun Tejpal’s novel who was the former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine and was accused by his colleague of molesting her. In November 2013, he stepped down as editor for six months after a female colleague accused him of sexual assault. He was arrested on November 30th, 2013 and is currently on bail since July 1st, 2014.

Anushka is, in fact, the same ‘idealist’ who had, in a media address in October last year, post the success of her movie ‘Sui Dhaaga: Made in India’ schooled co-actor Varun Dhawan on questioning the timing for the discussion of the Tanushree Dutta sexual harassment case, whereby Dutta had alleged of being sexually harassed by her co-actor Nana Patekar at her workplace. Varun had said that the fact we are discussing the issue after 10 years from when it happened is quite sad. He said, “The biggest thing is that it happened in 2008 and we are talking about it in 2018, that’s I think not a good sign for anyone”.

However, Anushka interrupted him immediately and mentioned that it doesn’t matter when are we discussing the issue, the fact that the problem exists is important and not the time. She said, “Don’t question those things that why is it happening so late.. it is not right! If Justice is not served, it can happen anytime”, she asserted.

Moreover, Anushka Sharma had in an interview with Anupama Chopra in 2015 spoken staunchly about the Hindi film industry’s double standards and sexism. For all her strong opinions, calling out such double-standards and hypocrisy, Anushka said that she is often referred to as an ‘activist’. She was then too lauded for her womanism.

However, for a woman who had once come across as a ‘feminist’ and an ‘idealist’, as she chose to call herself, and as the so-called ‘activist’ for standing up for victims like Tanushree Dutta, has now gone ahead to endorse a rape accused by producing a web series based on his novel reeks of nothing but hypocrisy.

India has conducted 3 air strikes in last 5 years, cannot disclose details of the 3rd strike: Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Mangaluru, said that India has conducted three air strikes over Pakistan in last 5 years. While he said the public knows about two of them, he cannot disclose details about the third air strike.

As per reports, HM Rajnath Singh said, “We have conducted successful strikes three times. You all know about two of them, not the third. In Uri, 17 of our soldiers were killed by Pakistan’s terrorists. Our soldiers decided to take revenge and everyone knows what happened after that. The second one happened recently, after the Pulwama attack. I cannot give details about the third one.”

The home minister added that the India of now is the new India, it will no longer stand quiet and let terror attacks go unavenged.

Stating that Pakistan will have to pay a ‘heavy price’ for sheltering and supporting terrorists working against India, Rajnath Singh stated that India will not provoke Pakistan, but will not tolerate provocation from Pakistan either.

In September 2016, the army camp at Uri was attacked by Pakistan based terrorists. 17 Indian soldiers were martyred in the attack. On September 29, soldiers of the India parachute regiment had crossed the LoC and had decimated several terrorist launch pads, killing dozens of terrorists waiting to infiltrate into India.

On 14 February, 40 CRPF jawans were martyred when a Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist rammed an explosive-loaded car on to a CRPF convoy. 12 days after the attack, several Mirage 2000s from the Indian Air Force had entered deep inside Pakistani territory and dropped several SPICE 2000 bombs on a JeM terror camp, vapourising the facility with several hundred terrorists within.

Pakistan was expecting surgical strike, we did air strikes, they woke up at 5 and cried “Modi Ne Maara”: PM Modi in Noida

Prime Minister Modi today reached Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and laid the foundation for various projects including the extension of Delhi’s Blue Line, now connecting Noida City Centre with the Noida Electronics City. It will help commuters traveling in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Blue Line and Noida Metro Rail Corporation’s Aqua Line that connects Noida and Greater Noida.

He also laid the foundation for 1,320 MW Super Thermal Plant at Bulandshahar’s Khurja a thermal plant in Bihar’s Buxar through video conferencing.

PM Modi started his address to people of Noida and Buxar, through video conferencing, by re-telling about the plight that Noida and Greater Noida used to face, during the previous regime. Government money loot, loopholes in issuing of tenders, scams in land allocations, PM Modi said these were problems that had plagued both places. Now, both cities are known for new employment opportunities and are getting transformed into Make In India hub, PM Modi said.

“Today India is the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world. In this achievement, Noida has a very great contribution. Prior to my government, India only had 2 mobile manufacturing factories. Now there are around 125 factories and many of them are situated here” PM Modi stated at the start of his address. He also added that Noida is also turning into a magnet for many other electronics manufacturing companies.

PM Modi then talked about the programmes that he launched today, and how they are going to ease the lives of people of Noida. He said he has dedicated India’s biggest airport to Jewar, which when fully operational will save people of Noida from traveling to Delhi to take air flights. In the coming weeks, he said, through UDAN scheme will enable people of Bareily to have air access. Talking about his government’s flagship programme UDAN, PM Modi said, that it has enabled about 120 tier-2 and tier-3 cities, to connect to each other by airways.

After UDAN scheme, PM Modi continued his address about the power infrastructure in India and how it has changed since the coming of Modi government. The Khurja powerplant, according to PM Modi, will help provide electricity to states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The project will incur the cost of around Rs 1200 crore, PM said.

The PM also addressed people of Buxar, Bihar where he has inaugurated the 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant. PM Modi said that this thermal power plant is part of an initiative to turn eastern India into the country’s engine, as it will help provide electricity to other eastern states.

PM Modi said that both plants will not only provide electricity to the people but they will also fulfill the needs of several industries in these areas.

“We can not forget the days when we used to hear the news that our power plants only have availability of coal for 2-3 days more. Those were days of weak power infrastructure when grids used to fail, sliding states into darkness for days. It was also a matter of national embarrassment,” PM Modi said.

He also added that his government emphasizes on four things in the power sector, production, transmission, distribution, and connection. He also added that his government is also working on projects based on alternative energies like solar energy, tidal energy, coal energy, and nuclear energy. He added that by 2022, his government has set a target to provide 175 GW of clean energy, out of which, a production level of 75 GW has already been reached.

PM Modi, slamming the Congress, said that during 65 years of their rule they were only able to create a power infrastructure capable of producing 2.5 lakh MW. But, his government, in the last 5 year alone, has created a power infrastructure capable of producing 1 lakh MW.

PM Modi also said that 18,000 villages which had not seen electricity since independence, obtained it during the BJP-government’s tenure. PM Modi added that with the help of Deen Dayal Gram Jyoti Yojna for the villages and Integrated Power Development Scheme for the urban area, his government was able to make the transmission network of the country, stronger.

He also talked about his flagship programme, Saubhagya scheme which helped 2.5 crore households in the country gain access to electricity. He also asserted that after his government came to power, it started promoting electrical appliances which attract less electricity bill like the LED bulb. He said before his efforts, LED bulbs used to cost Rs 300-350 but now they cost a mere Rs 40-50. He said this only could be done because of the elimination of middle-men.

“Now you tell, the people’s shops that I have shut will abuse me or not. The middle-man who used to loot people will attack me or not” PM Modi asked the crowd. He also told people about the new Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology in Greater Noida, which will help scholars around country and world discover about our ancient history.

“I got the opportunity to inaugurate Kashi Vishnath Dham. I was surprised to see so many houses surrounding the holy site”, PM Modi said. He added that the Archaeological Survey of India had unearthed many temples beneath the houses. PM Modi said that even this initiative to uncover our lost heritage has met with politics by people who are ignorant of our history and know only personal gains.

PM Modi added that during the previous regime some loyalists used to get houses and farmhouses near ASI sites, without any problem.

Attacking the opposition parties for trying to spread misinformation regarding India’s air strikes and the previous surgical strike, PM said, “After the Pulwama attack, we did something we had never done. We entered into their territory and conducted air strikes,”. He added, “Before we had informed the nation, Pakistan itself had started crying by 5 in the morning.

“Our enemies were convinced that no matter how many times they inflict India with attacks, it will never respond,” said PM Modi. He then slammed previous ‘remote-controlled’ government for this.

“They did nothing after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, even though air force was ready,” PM Modi said. He then added to list attacks like 2013 Hyderabad bomb blast, 2010 Pune Bakery blasts, Varanasi bomb blast in 2011 to which previous regimes never responded. He said that those government had tied the hands of our forces.

Concluding his speech, PM Modi asked people to be wary of “Tukde-Tukde gang”, who run Pakistan’s propaganda day-and-night. He said that after India conducted air-strikes these gangs got involved in the peddling of Pakistani propaganda to confuse people. He also slammed politicians giving statements that make Pakistan happy.

Bihar Congress General Secretary resigns, says people think Congress party is a ‘Pakistani agent’

Bihar Congress spokesperson Binod Sharma has tendered his resignation from the party citing the reason that he feels “ashamed” to be called a Congressi after his party asked for the proof of air strikes at Balakot, Pakistan by the Indian Air Force (IAF). He wrote that due to the lack of patriotism and nonchalant attitude of the party workers, people have started viewing Congress party as a Pakistani agent.

Resignation of Binod Sharma Source: Twitter

Sharma’s resignation addressed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, read that he tried to convey the feelings of party workers to party leadership but unfortunately no attention was heeded to it. Sharma wrote that the whole country is grief-ridden and enraged after the Pulwama terror attack. He said that at a time when the country is proud of the bravery shown by our soldiers by conducting the airstrikes, it is a “shameless and childish act’ on the part of the party to ask the counts of terrorists who died in the air strikes.

He further wrote that the politically motivated statements made by Congress leaders will lower the morale of our armed forces while raising the morale of terrorists. He alleged that the party lacks a feeling of nationalism and that people of the country consider Congress party an agent of Pakistan. He said that country comes before the party for him, therefore, he is resigning as the spokesperson and a member of the party in the interest of the nation.

OpIndia’s response to International Fact Checking Network’s rejection of its application for accreditation

OpIndia.com’s tryst with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) began during the course of our investigation into BBC’s Fake News research on Nationalism. BBC had initially claimed that Nationalism was behind the rise of Fake News based on their research, a claim they were forced to backtrack from after we debunked their preposterous ‘research’ in our series of articles.

The BBC had relied on accreditation by the IFCN for their selection of fact-checkers for their research. We had proceeded to demonstrate how their research was destined to fail due to their reliance on biased sources of Fake News.

Soon after, we had applied for accreditation by IFCN ourselves to check if the institution itself was biased. We can now report that our application was rejected mainly on the basis of our alleged violation of their ‘non-partisanship’ policy.

In its response to our application, the IFCN states, “Though the fact checks cover a variety of subjects, they do concentrate on a certain political organization or organizations with a certain ideology. Of the ten fact-checks given as examples, nearly all are focused on trying to disprove information put out by a certain political party or by organizations that are seemingly inclined toward that political party.”

To begin with, here’s the list of the ten fact-checks which we had submitted in our application:

First and foremost, that OpIndia.com focuses its fact-checks on exposing the lies peddled by people of a certain political dispensation does not take anything away from the authenticity of our fact-checks. If the IFCN is only concerned with the authenticity of Fact-Checks, nature political entities mentioned therein should be irrelevant as fact-checking is all they should be concerned with.

An institution can only fact-check what’s in front of it. On principle, we have focused our efforts on fact-checking claims which are regarded as Vedic truth by certain sections of the media and political fraternity. Time is a limited resource and hence, we strive to use it as fruitfully as humanly possible. Therefore, we try to expose lies that have been ignored by the rest.

Are we to be blamed for the fact that the mainstream media repeatedly lies in a manner that could only benefit a certain political party? Are we to be blamed for the fact that the ‘fact-checkers’ ignore lies peddled by people when it appears to dent the electoral prospects of a certain political party?

For instance, none of the ‘fact-checkers’ accredited by IFCN itself has bothered to expose Rahul Gandhi’s numerous lies on the Rafale deal. Is it our fault then that we attempt to present our readers with the truth that they could not find anywhere else? For IFCN, it appears it is.

The IFCN further alleged that our articles “have writing that indicates that an opposition party is either behind it or is taking advantage of it. Its method in reaching or presenting its conclusions presents evidence of potential bias.” Well, since our fact-checks often revolve around political issues, it is only natural that an opposition party is either responsible for spreading Fake News against the government or is taking advantage of it.

For instance, when Congress President Rahul Gandhi lies about the Rafale deal, then it’s obvious that the Opposition party is lying for political gains. There is no bias here for stating the obvious. It’s to be noted here that at this point, the IFCN only alleges ‘potential’ bias on our part, therein lies an admission that there is no evidence of actual bias on our part with regards to our fact-checks. The IFCN appears to concern itself more with the political entities our fact-checks appear to benefit or harm instead of the quality of our Fact-Checks.

That the IFCN does not bother itself with the quality of the Fact-Checkers it has accredited is revealed by one Fact-Checker it has certified: Fact Crescendo.  Despite the legal head of Twitter India apologizing profusely for the anti-Brahmin placard that was held by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey while posing for a photograph, Fact Crescendo calls it Fake News. In the entire article, it wasn’t even mentioned what was the Fake News in the story. Perhaps, if the IFCN was concerned more with the quality of our Fact-Checks rather than the political entities affected by them, we would have made the cut.

The IFCN states further, “Though the applicant has not officially endorsed any political group and has a stated non-partisanship policy, a quick look at their work indicates otherwise. Also, on the page where the website invites contributions from readers, it clearly indicates its bias. I quote from the website: “We won’t entertain the usual left-liberal narrative.”

It further exposes the inherent bias of the IFCN itself. “A quick look at their work indicates otherwise,” it says. However, they don’t see any bias in the work of factchecker.in which runs a dubious a ‘hate crime’ database the sole objective of which is to portray Hindus as aggressors and Muslims as victims all the time. Time and again, and again, and again, we have exposed how factchecker.in indulges in the most rabid form of fake news peddling.

We have demonstrated comprehensively that factchecker.in through its factually incorrect database strives to paint Muslims as victims of hate crimes even when the crime is not religiously motivated and conversely, claims Hindus are not victims of hate crimes even when the crime is motivated by religion. It is very easy to see how IFCN’s malicious database impacts the current political climate. However, IFCN does not see any bias in that. Of course not.

The IFCN construes our disdain towards the ‘left-liberal narrative’ as evidence of bias. It appears that they do not realize that these are our ontological positions on the basis of which we operate. For instance, we do not believe gender is a social construct. We do not believe a man can transform into a woman or vice versa through medical procedures. We do not believe secularism as it is practised in India is ideal for the social fabric of the country. We believe illegal immigration is a threat to the sovereignty of the Indian state. We do believe Hindus suffer institutional discrimination in this country. We do not believe Hindutva is a genocidal ideology. We believe in the multiplicity of the Divine. These are our ontological positions which place us at odds with the left-liberal narrative. As is clear, this is not evidence of partisanship, these are evidence of a difference of opinion about the nature of our reality.

Let us return to the list of ‘fact-checker’ accredited by IFCN. One of them is PolitiFact. PolitiFact is a project of the Tampa Bay Times (TBT), a media outlet which endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Presidency of the United States of America in 2016. Not merely that, in their endorsement, they said, “Donald Trump is stunningly unprepared and temperamentally unfit for the presidency.” Thus, here we have a situation where the news outlet which runs one of the fact-checkers certified by the IFCN had endorsed a Presidential candidate but the IFCN does not see any partisanship in that.

PolitiFact was later acquired by the Poynter Institute in 2018, the same organization whose initiative is the IFCN. However, when the first certification was done in 2017, the Poynter Institute had nothing to do with it presumably. Therefore, merely months after TBT’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton and calling her opposition “stunningly unprepared and temperamentally unfit”, the IFCN could not find any evidence of partisanship. But OpIndia.com violates IFCN’s non-partisanship policy due to our ontological positions. We are not joking.

It’s not just PolitiFact among IFCN accredited ‘fact-checkers’ which has a clear bias. Even The Washington Post Fact-Checker has been certified by the IFCN. The Washington Post in the recently held US Midterm elections endorsed numerous candidates. Conspicuously, barring one, all others either Democrats or Independents. They even endorsed Tim Kaine for the post of Senator from Virginia, Hillary Clinton’s Vice-Presidential nominee. Of course, it is common practice for media organizations in the US to endorse a political candidate. However, the fact that the overwhelming majority of them were Democrats is evidence of partisanship on their part. Despite that, the IFCN does not consider that as evidence of partisanship but our ontological positions are enough to label us as partisan.

Even India Today’s fact-check initiative and The Quint’s initiative has been certified by the IFCN. Time and again, we have exposed the bias in their work and the manner in which they peddle Fake News which always benefit a certain political party and harm its primary opposition. But the IFCN does not see any evidence of partisanship there. Coincidence? I think not.

There is another fact-checker certified by the IFCN, Factly, which has an entire section dedicated to claims made by the Narendra Modi government. Considering the fact that they don’t have a separate section for lies peddled by the Opposition parties, especially Congress President Rahul Gandhi who spreads more lies than we can fact-check, is it not a sign of ‘potential bias’ and political partisanship?

The IFCN then proceeds to tell us, “The applicant (OpIndia.com) links to the sources of the claim it is fact-checking and evidence it uses to fact check it. However, more often than not, the evidence that is used is usually from speeches made by political parties or the government, which are merely countering the claims. Data is rarely used, and then only to counter data claims made by political or other organizations.”

Firstly, if Fake News is being spread about the speeches a politician made, we will have to use speeches as evidence for Fact-Check. Secondly, the argument about ‘data’ is bizarre. If the Fake News is being spread about data and statistics about a certain thing, only then can we use official data to prove that it is ‘Fake News’. How do we insert ‘data’ where it is not relevant?

Then, amusingly enough, IFCN objects to the kind of language we use in our articles. It says, “Additionally, most claims are countered by making disparaging comments (for instance, calling the portals ‘habitual offender and regularly publishes fake stories’) about the organizations that published the claim, or by quoting someone with little credibility who generally agrees with their point of view.”

Well, it appears that the IFCN is also interested in moral policing apart from fact-checking. But on a more serious note, ‘habitual offenders’ and ‘regularly publishes fake stories’ are factually correct observations made in the fact-checks about the source of the Fake News under consideration. Are we to desist from making factual remarks about those who have made a business out of peddling false narratives?

About the remark regarding quoting people with ‘little credibility’, we can say with certainty that the people we quote in our fact-checks, if we even quoted any, have much more credibility than factchecker.in’s hate crime database. And they are certainly fine with that.

The IFCN also says, “it does make it clear that it will accept only one point of view. I quote: “We won’t entertain the usual left-liberal narrative. We are for free speech, but we are not obliged to carry such articles. The Internet is a free space and you will get lot many platforms to voice your opinion. The mainstream media in India love the left-liberal narrative, and we don’t want to mirror the mainstream media. We will stick to a right-liberal narrative.””

It appears that the IFCN is far more concerned about our ontological positions on politics more than it is about the quality of our fact-checks. Facts do not have a ‘narrative’, facts are just that, facts. They are true regardless of our political positions and inclinations. They are just facts. It is indeed a testament to our integrity that we do not hide behind the cloak of neutrality like many of the ‘fact-checkers’ certified by the IFCN and even the IFCN itself. We state our ideology upfront so that readers are aware of our political positions. Our ideology itself has nothing to do with the falsity of the Fake News we fact-check.

It is also pertinent to mention that OpIndia.com was not deemed ‘non-compliant’ on any criterion of the IFCN. We were marked ‘fully compliant’ on some and ‘partially compliant’ on others.

OpIndia.com’s rejection by IFCN further confirms that the organization of fact-checkers is merely another liberal echo-chamber. It also shows that IFCN is concerned less about the quality of fact-checking and more about the political inclinations of the applicant. That is why PolitiFact whose mother-organization endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Presidency and called Donald Trump ‘temperamentally unfit’ is considered non-partisan by IFCN but OpIndia.com is labelled partisan due to our ideological inclinations.

That IFCN has little regard for Fact-Checks is further evidenced by the fact that fact-checkers certified by them regularly peddle Fake News and they even call true events as Fake News as it goes against their political inclinations.

The entire exercise further undermines BBC’s already debunked ‘research’ on Fake News, as was the objective from the very beginning. The BBC is yet to issue a clarification on why they relied on IFCN’s accreditation, which as an organization in itself is extremely ideologically motivated, for a ‘research’ on an issue as ideologically polarized as Fake News and Nationalism. As we had asked before, what academic standards did the IFCN meet that inspired the researchers at BBC to hold their accreditation in such high regard?

Our series on the BBC’s Fake News research and our tryst with IFCN that followed only goes on to show how ideological inclinations of the researchers have undermined academia and its rigour. It is a point that has been raised by many and over time, it is becoming clear, that research, especially in the field of social science, has become just another tool in the hands of ideologically motivated individuals to cloak their dubious opinions under the garb of academic credibility.

When the entire mainstream media was busy regurgitating the fake claims made by the BBC based on their fake research, it was OpIndia.com which debunked their lies. Rest assured, our work will continue to rattle many more feathers in the days to come.

Modi is everywhere, Rahul is nowhere

PM Modi is a popular man. He always draws huge crowds, no matter where he goes. That’s a given. The only difference is the enthusiasm.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ73gVQIjbI?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent]

If you have heard the roar of the crowd in Ghaziabad yesterday, you know what I am talking about.

After five years in power, the roar had subsided somewhat. After all, there is no such thing as a permanent high. And no matter what work is done in five years, you can’t match the thrill of the challenger, the challenger from Gujarat who would open up unlimited possibilities for India.

Then came a few electoral setbacks for PM Modi. The results of the three Hindi heartland states showed rather little classical anti-incumbency, more like boredom. Rahul went on a rampage assuming he was already Prime Minister. The Mahagathbandhans began to take shape.

I would say there was an inflexion point sometime in January when the reality of the General Election began to set in. People began to realize that Modi sarkar was coming to an end. Really. Over the last five years, PM Modi had become a member of every family, whether loved or hated. People were very emotional about him and every little thing was connected to him personally. And like any family living under the same roof, they step on each other’s toes.

Like we say in Hindi, two vessels in the same kitchen are bound to knock over each and make a sound once in a while.

But then people realized the election was actually coming. Whatever the little bickering, they didn’t really want PM Modi out of their family. And PM Modi, for his part, took some measures to be extra nice: reservation for economically weaker sections, gifts to marginal farmers and income tax waiver up to Rs 5 lakh.

Meanwhile, the most unpopular people in the country were preparing for a comeback. They got so confident that they even involved Priyanka Gandhi. And now it seems Robert Vadra is itching for his share of the pie.

Those two weeks or so which covered the Budget Session and the entry of Priyanka might have been the turning point of 2019.

If the December mood had persisted, BJP could have gone reeling downhill. Sometime around mid-January, they began to turn the tide and arrest the decline.

And now, that roar is back.

After the Balakot Air Strike, the roar has returned to Modi’s rallies. The spontaneous enthusiasm is back.

A word about those asking for “proof” ( I plan to write a separate post, perhaps tomorrow explaining what I think are the issues with giving direct “proof”) of strikes.

As it is, Pakistan *still* won’t let anyone visit the spot of the Balakot Air Strike, almost two weeks after the Indian operation took place. Do you still need proof of what happened?

But first, those demanding proof should answer for their comments the last time they insulted our Army and PM Modi after the surgical strike of 2016.

They called PM Modi a “khoon ka dalal”, remember?

Have they apologized? Top Congress leaders said the strikes were fake, supported Pakistan’s version. Have they apologized? Has Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi condemned them?

So we know one thing for sure: that many Congress leaders made an attempt to undermine India’s credibility the last time our military carried out strikes on terrorists across the Line of Control.

So who should be giving “proof”? Shouldn’t it be the people who lost their credibility the last time around? Isn’t the onus on them to prove that they are not doing the wrong thing again due to political jealousy? And in the process undermining India and in some sense helping Pakistan?

Thirty days before the election, the opposition has almost vanished from the scene, except for a few statements here and there which are then played by Pakistani media!

PM Modi has always towered over Rahul Gandhi, but rarely before has the difference in stature seemed to be so much. You can see this in Google Trends as well.

Google search term analysis of “Modi” and “Rahul”

For about 5 days between Jan 10 and Jan 14, Rahul trended above Modi. He spent the rest of January playing catch up, as usual, but at least in the vicinity. Now, he’s nowhere.

You can already feel it: a faction of “intellectuals” is getting ready for a second term of Modi rule, irritated and whining. They are preparing excuses already: top among them being that Modi won due to “war hysteria”.

No dear, Modi was always winning. BJP was always going to get many more seats than Congress. The “intellectuals” were only hoping that Congress would put up a half decent performance and then cobble together the numbers required to form a majority with the help of dozens of “maha milawat” parties.

Those who complained that Modi got power with “just 31%” of the vote were hoping that Congress would limp to 22-24% and somehow regain the PM seat. That may no longer happen now.

And PM Modi is in no way responsible for the wicked, partisan manner in which the opposition reacted after the air strike. The opposition could have chosen not to become Imran Khan fans. Did PM Modi tell the opposition and its entire ecosystem to shower flowers on Pakistan’s PM? No, they did it on their own. And now if people of India choose to punish the opposition for it in the election, it’s all their own doing.

Fugitive Vijay Mallya’s luxury private jet dismantled at Air India hangar

Trouble seems to be increasing for fugitive liquor baron, Vijay Mallya as his private jet, Airbus A 319 (VT–VJM), which was auctioned to Florida-based Aviation Management Sales (AMS), which won the bid for the aircraft for Rs 34 crore in June last year, is being dismantled at the Air India hangar for the past few weeks as making it fly-worthy had become difficult.

After Kingfisher Airlines was grounded, the Service Tax Department had seized the aircraft. The AMS had won the bid after three previous bids were filed to attract any buyers. But were unable to take possession of the aircraft because of bureaucratic reasons.

However, since the jet was not fly-worthy, the aircraft was towed from the Lima apron along Maharashtra’s Kalina Kurla road to the Air India hangar on February 13th.

The plane was attached by the service tax department in December 2013, in its attempt to recover the tax dues of over Rs 800 crore from Kingfisher Airlines. However, the service tax department was forced to sell the aircraft after the Mumbai airport operator MIAL moved the Bombay High Court seeking a direction to the department citing heavy losses on account of the non-productive use of its space.

The auction, in the past, had failed as the bids were much below the reserve price, which was cut to $12.5 million from $22.5 million initially.

Vijay Mallya is wanted by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI in India on the charges of Money Laundering, Fraud and violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). His Kingfisher airlines owe around ₹9000 crore of debt to creditors, and Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) has attached a significant amount of properties belonging to Mallya.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate, probing the case had, in its attempt to recover the loan amount, allowed banks to sell his attached shares in the United Breweries after court clearance.

Further, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had submitted a request with Swiss authorities to block funds in four bank accounts belonging to Vijay Mallya, and also to provide the detail of the accounts. Following this, the Federal Supreme Court had ordered that the Swiss authorities are free to provide the detail of the bank accounts of Vijay Mallya to India, and also to block the accounts as per India’s request.

Moreover, after a special PMLA court in Mumbai had at the beginning of this year, declared liquor tycoon and former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Mallya as a fugitive economic offender there were reports, that his properties could now be confiscated by the Government of India.

In October last year, a London court had ordered confiscation of 6 highly expensive cars in possession of fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, to repay Indian Consortium of Banks’ Rs 10,000 crore. This came after London HC ordered enforcement agencies to raid two of Vijay Mallya’s homes and take in possession goods after Mallya lost the case against Bangalore Debt Recovery Tribunal in court.

The Indian government is also trying hard to extradite Vijay Mallya from England to India. On 31st July, UK court had asked Indian authorities to submit a ‘step by step video’ of the prison where Mallya would be kept. CBI had submitted nearly 10 minute-long video, about the conditions of the prison, Mallya would be kept in.

Trying his level best to evade the extradition process, fugitive liquor baron, Vijay Mallya has filed his application in the UK High Court, seeking permission to appeal against the extradition order signed by the British Home Secretary.

Mallya left India for London in March 2016 soon after lenders to his defunct Kingfisher Airlines declared him a wilful defaulter.
