Delhi's Tis Hazari Court court dismissed the bail application of Bibhav Kumar in view of threats received by the victim Swati Maliwal and apprehension of influencing the witnesses by the accused.
Swati Maliwal said that an attempt was made to portray her as a "villain" and Delhi Chief Minister's aide Bibhav Kumar as a "hero" after she made assault allegations against him.
The Delhi HC on Thursday rejected a Public Interest Litigation seeking action against media houses for revealing the identity of AAP MP Swati Maliwal while reporting the alleged assault on her by Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar
The Delhi Police requested a five-day custody of Kumar, but his lawyer opposed this, arguing that there was no evidence to support the need for custodial interrogation.
Known for his loose tongue, Kejriwal was uncharacteristically restraint in divulging details about the alleged Swati Maliwal assault incident inside his residence.
A case was filed against Bibhav Kumar and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case based on Maliwal's complaint. Bibhav was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday, May 19, and is currently in police custody.
Following the assault allegations levelled by Aam Aadmi Party MP Swati Maliwal against a former aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that the silence of the AAP chief on this matter shows his stance about the issue of the safety of women.
