Shimla Police books man for posting derogatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra on FB

The Section 295A of IPC deals with offences related to committing "deliberate and malicious acts aimed at outraging religious feelings", while section 505 (2) deals with the cases of "making statements promoting enmity, hatred, and ill-will between classes."

The Shimla police have lodged an FIR against one of the residents for posting derogatory comments against Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra. Rahul and Priyanka had recently concluded their family vacation in Shimla.


The accused Ranbir Singh Negi has been booked under sections 295A and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint made by Himachal Youth Congress president Manish Thakur. Manish had alleged that Negi made degrading remarks against the Congress president and his sister in a Facebook post uploaded on 21 December 2018.

Shimla Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Shukla said that the FIR has just been lodged and the accused will soon be arrested. In his Facebook post uploaded in Hindi on 21 December, Negi had made crass remarks against the Congress president and his sister.
